Cannot watch videos

Q: Cannot watch videos

Hi I'm having problems trying to watch videos as you might have already guessed mov files play perfectly but that could be because I use Quicktime for those everything else gives me an error no matter what media player I use well Winamp doesn't but it only Cannot watch videos plays the sound and the video itself is green The error is quot Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close We are sorry for the inconvenience quot just using WMP as an example and when looking at Cannot watch videos what the error report contains it gives me this AppName wmplayer exe AppVer ModName quartz dll ModVer Offset ddec The problems started a week or so ago when RealPlayer Basic started giving me an error of quot The specified module could not be found quot when trying to play mpg files which it had played perfectly before Somehow I tought it would be a good idea to ignore it I've attached my DxDiag report but for some odd reason it displays my integrated video card would video accelerator be a better term as being MB when in reality it has MB shared memory

Preferred Solution: Cannot watch videos

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I reformatted windows vista premium. everything works fine besides when i go to any site that has video links, when i click on a video instead of opening up WMP it shows page cannot be displayed. i went into the default programs options and changed the Video files selection to Play using Windows Media Player. it worked before. but now it doesn't work.

A:Can't watch Videos

What sites are you going to?

You may need to install Adobe (formerly Macromedia) Flash for many online video links.

Also if you have installed any 3rd party firewalls or pop-up blockers -- they can interfere with video links.

I'm trying to have my TV come up with the same screen as my laptop, to watch videos from the laptop on the TV. I have a cable which goes from the VGA OUT, to an S Video OUT, which is then plugged into an S Video IN to a SCART OUT...i think its that way.

When i start up my laptop, it does show the Acer startup screen, but it showed about 3 small versions of it instead of the one big picture. So the cable does in theory work. But my TV only has 50 Hz, i'm thinking this might be part of the problem?

When i go to display properties and choose "2. (Default Monitor) on SiS M760GX" and then click the Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor, the screen goes blank, then comes back with the box un-checked again.
My DxDiag log is attatched if needed.

I was on Skype with some friends and I installed Skype 7.0 because I didn't want to use the pre-installed Skype. Well now I cant make a call on Skype and every time I try to watch a video its either stops after 2 seconds and sits there (Facebook) or just has a flat out black screen (YouTube). I checked my Ram and I'm not out or memory. I waited for it to buffer and nothing. What is going on?

If it was working OK try uninstalling Skype 7.0. Failing that uninstall the security software you installed and fall back on what the computer came with. New computers are also easy to return to factory setting.

By far the simplest fix is to use System Restore to roll back Windows to a point in time when everything when your computer was functioning correctly. It allows you to undo system changes without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos.

If that doesn't help, try restoring an earlier system image or backup.

Recently I got a new computer so I decided to upgrade my internet to 20MB, but as of then I can not play any sort of game. I can watch videos alright, but I cant play any games. Such as League of Legends, Counter-Strike Global Offensive. I contacted my internet providers and asked them about my connection and they said everything was running 100%. Please help!!!!!!

A:I can watch videos, but can't play games

First thought: check your firewall. 20Mbps is more than enough for the games you mentioned. 20MB is WAY more than you need.

Hello to everyone!
I tried to post this at the audio and video forum but I got no aswer so I am trying here as well. Hope that's ok. Well, the thing is that I can't watch youtube videos. When I visit the YouTube page and I play some videos I can hear the sound but there is no image. This happens with Mozilla. If I browse with Chrome, the YouTube videos play fine. I have updated the plugins of Mozilla and reinstalled the Adobe Flash Player but this doesn't seem to solve the problem. Any ideas?
Thank you!

I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and updated Java and that didn't help, any other suggestions? I'm jonesing for YouTube so please help!

A:Firefox won't let me watch videos anymore

Re-install the latest version of Adobe Flash player. Java doesn't have anything to do with the majority of videos that play inside your browser.

i am pretty new at this and have some problems with windows xp. first, i DO NOT have high-speed internet but rather turtle, dial-up netzero. i cannot watch videos (like on youtube) without them freezing up every few seconds. someone said i would need high-speed. is this true? i DO have the latest version of java installed.

also every time i close a window, an error box pops up telling me "internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close". what's up with that?

A:cannot watch videos and get error message

YouTube recommends you'll need a broadband connection with at least 500+Kbps for best viewing. It also uses Flash Player for their videos. You need Adobe Flash Player.
Try this for IE, Tools> Internet Options> Advanced tab> under Browsing: make sure the box is checked Disable Script Debugging
Apply, OK and OK then reboot.
If that doesn't help, try this from Microsoft Support.

im using an asus g73 with windows 7, the monitor is 17.3 and i have it running in 1600x 900 resolution. when i try to watch videos on it i can use the full screen option but it doesnt utiliza the entire screen. it's still a smaller than full screen video. the only time ive been able to watch videos in full screen is when using VLC player and i adjust the crop sizes and things like that. but when trying to watch streamed videos on the internet i don't have any options to change the size like that. please help. thanks

A:Why can't i watch videos in full screen?

Which videos are you trying to watch in full screen? Is the border even around the whole video, or is it thicker on the sides/top?

Hello. When I try to watch videos on I cant because this message pops up:
"User must allow third-party flash content"

Please visit:

When I go to that link, it says I need to click the Allow 3rd party content, but I click the box but the checkmark does not appear plus it wont save any changes I make. Ive tried re-stalling adobe Flash player but it wont work. Can someone tell me what can I do to fix this?

A:Can't watch videos on cause of Adobe Flash.

You must make that change from within what ever you are using to browse the internet.
You didnt mention what you are using so I cant be more specific.
If in IExplorer try tools|manage add ons and make sure that flash isnt disabled.

oh yeah, and its kinda works like it'll take there where i need to click the episodes but it just doesnt show up.. just leaves everything unclickable

A:Can't Watch Videos Online Anymore

Well I can tell you that if you are using Firefox you must have the AdBlocking Plus feature disabled or you will encounter exactly the behavior you describe. It can be disabled for individual sites.

Does the problem occur in both IE and Firefox?
Are you having any other scripting related issues -- such as blank pages?

Whenever I try to watch a Youtube video, or any other video online (with the exception of YouTube videos on the website,) I get an error message that says that I either have java turned off, or need to upgrade to the latest version of Flash.

AFAIK, the flash is updated, and Java is turned on.

I can't download the update (firewall I guess, not sure) and my Internet Options say Java's turned on. It worked fine for a long time. And, the other computers, configured the exact same way, can watch just fine.

Like I said, the only videos I can watch are Youtube videos hidden on the website.

Any suggestions?

I have installed many codecs and I never had this problem before until mabye this month, but when I try to watch a video it just keeps freezing and laggings and sometimes the sound keeps going while the video is frozen.

I am getting tired of this because I have no idea what the problem could be, I tried running videos with no other programs running and it still gives the same effects.

AVI, Mp4, WMV, all popular video types have the same effect, also in 3 different media players.

Hello, so I'll just start by telling you what happens.
So, lets say I turn on the game "Thief", I'm playing, playing playing and after 2-3 minutes, my computer freezes. everything on the computer stops, the monitor just tells me "ATTENTION, NO VIDEO INPUT, ENTERING SLEEPING MODE", and I cannot do anything, but press "Restart" button on my actual computer. So, this started like 2 months ago, it had always worked to just revert time on my pc. I restored like 6 days, however... in 6 days, it happens again! So I did it, did it, did it, did it and now, I cannot do it, somehow all of my system restore points are gone...! So I cannot do anything... Please help me... I can't event turn on like a video, it just freezes in 1-2 minutes...

A:Computer crashes when I try to watch videos.

Do you mean a DVD when you say video? or a file you have downloaded to watch?

VLC will play most files because it is packed with Codecs, which are needed to display correctly video from a downloaded file or a DVD.
Windows media player doesn't necessarily come packed with all those that are needed...

However, it is unusual for it to cause a BSOD.

Have you been to Windows Update recently? Do a full scan, and install any updates including driver updates.
See if that helps.

I'm now having trouble seeing videos on some news Web sites like and with both Internet Explorer 7 and Netscape Version 8. However, Mozilla Version 5 works just fine on these sites. And this problem just began happening within the last week.

I can still see videos just fine on sites like Google and YouTube with all three browsers.

On and, when I click on the links to watch their videos I can hear the audio just fine but the video is simply a blank green screen while I hear the audio.

Do you have any ideas on what I can do to correct this problem?

A:Can't Watch Videos with Internet Explorer 7

Hi Jim,

Welcome To TSF.

It could be that there is a problem on their side with CNN and MSNBC. If other videos work that i can see any problem. Although at the top of the website in Internet Explorer does it say Run ActiveX? If so on any browser then just click on it and run then install it if it asks. That would be needed to watch videos online from websites.

Hope This Is Okay.
Have A Nice Day.

Hi and thanks for reading this.
The problem i have is that when I'm watching a video or try and do more than two things on my laptop (Advent 6651) the CPU jumps up to 100% making it impossible to watch the video. this also happens when I'm just browsing. I took to a local repair shop and he put a fresh in stall of windows 7 on it, originally it was Vista.
After reading a post on here I installed and ran Adw cleaner and also Junkware removal tool but the problem is still here.
I've attached a screenshot of CPU usage if thats any help.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, not sure if this is the right place for this post so please excuse me if it's wrong!

I have had my camera (Samsung L200) for about 2 years now, and over the last 6 months, any videos I capture with it are unable to play on my PC. The first year and a half played them fine so I'm not really sure what happened for them to stop playing.

Any help?

I'm on Windows Vista if that is any help I'm not very good with technical info, sorry!!

A:Can't watch videos on my computer from my camera?

Open one of the files with a program such as gSpot or MediaInfo. They will list the file specs and which codec is needed for playback. Then simply install that codec.

You could also simply try using a different media player. VLC, MPCHC, and KMPlayer are all free and use their own codecs.

I have a Samsung R580. We got a factory reset for this laptop a few months ago, and Youtube worked after about 10 minutes after starting, but now it doesn't work. I have cleared my cache, I have used Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome. I have the Adobe installed. I use Youtube downloaders and the download is too slow. When I am on Youtube, it goes slow and when I try and watch a video, it doesn't load, and when it does load, it's only for a few seconds and then it buffers for awhile.
Xvideos and Xhamster videos load and then buffer.
Google is slow. Facebook is slow.
On it says that my ping is 23 ms, download speed is 33.38 mbps, and my load speed is 5.79 mbps.

Any information?

I have Adobe Shockwave player11 and Flash player10 installed. I don't understand what is wrong...

It happens on both Firefox and Internet Explorer I first noticed it on gamespot com I wanted to see a clip of some gameplay but the instant the media to Unable but Nothing browser. videos watch in errors. my player came up in the browser amidst various ads and options size connection etc it glitches up telling me that quot some information may be lost quot or quot Unable to watch videos in my browser. Nothing but errors. Please tell microsoft about this problem quot and such No Unable to watch videos in my browser. Nothing but errors. specific problem was identified it just told me there was something wrong And then the window closes up It s not just with gamespot It s for ALL videos I try to look at in a browser Like ebaums putfile streaming video from news sites etc It works perfectly if I just right click and download the video but unfortunately most of these sites don t give me that option Does anybody know just what the hell happened Obviously I ve either fallen victim to a virus or I have some SERIOUS compatibility issues I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox and have done the same with javascript I have also tried accessing the file with internet explorer with the same results I don t think it s a connection issue since I can use the internet for gaming chatting etc just fine The video playing in the internet browser not the video file by itself is the problem nbsp

A:[SOLVED] Unable to watch videos on

Because of the message you're getting, it's not a Flash problem. See if your ISP blocks it by chance, particularly if it's a cable company that doesn't carry the Food Network.

Hi, I've been trying to watch videos on my Windows XP netbook, but I keep getting errors from every browser I've tried. IE says "You need Adobe Flashplayer to watch this video" and includes a dl link, Firefox just shows a black box, and Chrome says to install the missing plug-in.

I've downloaded Flashplayer a number of times, installed it and re-installed it, but it doesn't work. I've also gone into the plug-ins page for Chrome and enabled all the flashplayer plug-ins, but nothing seems to change. How do I fix it?

A:Missing Plug-in Error//Cannot Watch Videos

Uninstall Flash player with the Offline uninstaller. Restart your computer and then Re-install using the Offline Installer Also, install Shockwave, and Java

I have windows 7 64 bit.
My computer is slow to boot.  I can't play simple videos.  We found proxies set-up in firefox.  Eset barely boots in MS Explorer.  Anything in MS explorer is slow and takes a few minutes to run.  I only have one antivirus running that I know of.  I've backed up my comp but I don't have the original OS disks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  DDS.txt posted below and Attach.txt attached in that same post.
Also, thanks in advance for any help you guys give me.  You guys are all awesome.

G'day Help!ugh,
You are running more than one Anti Virus.  (Avast Antivirus, Microsoft Security Essentials, AdAware,) This will cause great confusion in your pc's system.
Please read THIS topic, Post no.2 by Queen Evie for an explanation why more than one is undesirable.
I would also uninstall , Spybot-Search and destroy, as SuperAntiSpyware has largely taken its place and is recognized as being far more effective.
SUPERAntiSpyware    (this tool is recommended by bleepingcomputer )
Personally I would keep MSE, but that choice is yours.
Uninstaller Information:
Spybot Search & Destroy can be removed in Control panel/Programs/uninstall a program
Let us know the outcome.

This never used to happen before until now.

Do you have all the same problem if you want to watch a Divx movie with AVI preview. Only sound and no picture. I know while back you had to download the Nimo Codec Pack to be able to see the movie.

This pack contains a lot of unecessary tools that can give you problems. It also contains spyware.

Is there another way?

Thank you

had lots of video freezes watching youtube. have 20GB download speed. so uninstalled flash and now videos play well so far.

according to script blocker flash is not working on other pages and items.

so why do the vids play without flash? if I install the latest flash version wonder will the video freezes come back. grrr :-)

A:disable flash and watch youtube videos??

They play without flash as it will use the HTML5 protocol if flash is not available. This is built into modern browsers so no plug in is required. This can often lead to a smoother experience. The latest version of flash may solve it but it may not. Flash is on its way out anyway so many sites are converting to HTML5.
