Hello, lately I've been having the strangest of problems:
My mouse doesn't work as it should - sometimes clicking on something doesn't do anything, sometimes it does something different, as if some altering keys were pressed - eg sometimes clicking on a tab in a browser will close it (with left mouse button).
I have tried to locate and update new drivers for my keyboard and mouse, since these are my guesses for what could be causing this, but couldn't find any driver for the keyboard and the driver for the mouse didn't change anything.
My mouse : Trust MI-6970C Laser Mouse
My keyboard: Genius KB-G265
I'm running Win 7 Professional
I can't think of any changes that I did at the time this started happening, so I'm really at loss.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Try them with another computer. If they both work OK suspect either a hardware problem with your computer or a possible malware infection. It could also conceivably be a Windows problem but the other two possibilities are more likely.

So i have a Razer Blackwidow ultimate and i was just on my computer until my keyboard and mouse stopped functioning correctly. My mouse keeps highlighting everythint to the left of it everytime i left click. The keyboard won't type at all but still lights up. I unplugging the keyboard, but my mouse clicks still highlight. I also plugged the keyboard into another computer and it couldn't type what so ever. Sticky keys are off too and when i type with my old keyboard, everything is in capital letters. When im in chrome, my clicks would open a new tab each time. I don't know how to solve this issue. I need help!
Get a cheap keyboard mouse combo, they are like $20, That would tell you if it is a hardware problem.
First of all I d like to say with great every acting Mouse now and then. strange certainty that this is not an issue of a dirty mouse I don t clean it regularly or thoroughly enough for this on and off issue It has Mouse acting strange every now and then. been happening longer than I installed the media converter that had the relevant whatever virus I have yet to find any way it could otherwise be linked to a virus so I m ruling that out as well I d blame the connector if it had any way of loosening exactly when these issues occur I d also like to say that while likely coincidental the issue first occurred while playing team fortress Supposedly when you uninstall Left Dead by the same company Valve it uninstalls some fonts as well so I would not rule it out Now to describe the issue Sometimes the mouse will randomly point all over the place I haven t had that issue recently however More often is that the mouse will stop responding at all Sometimes this is only for a minute or so or other times I am forced to reboot my computer which seems to temporarily fix it nbsp

I bought a laptop recently, its an Acer aspire 5920g. SOme of the letters on the laptops keyboard have numbers next to them. For some reason when I use the laptops keyboard when I type the letters with the numbers next to them the numbers come up instead of the letters. Ive searched everything but nothing seems to help. I dont really know much about computers so if its a simple solution I'd appreciate the happy ending.
For instance. If i type lijk it would come up with 3512
I am using the "on-screen keyboard" to write this because anything I type with my actual keyboard produces a jibberish of letters and numbers that have nothing to do with the keys

I've tried a different keyboard, and got the same results.
(I use a self-built pc with a pentium 4 (3.06 ghz) multi-threading processer. Just over 1 gig of ddr ram, and windows xp pro)

TVhis began outv of nowhere. I've tvried plugging the keyboard into a different USB socket, as well as reinstalling the driver, restarting my computer, but no good. As you can now see, the keyboard is actving correctvly, with only intermittent issues. The problem seem completely random, as some keys even effect the multimedia keys on my keyboard.
The keyboard in question is a Kensington K72357US wired keyboard.
Any ideas? I should also mention the keyboard is filthy (Full of ashes and dust), is cheap and I never expected it to last very long. I'm thinking failing keyboard. Anyone concur?

I definitely concur. Replace the keyboard.
I also suggest you open the computer case and blow out the dust and debris from inside it. It's my guess it's filthy too. If the processor heatsink/cooling unit gets clogged enough, you'll start having even worse problems.

Greets... I just had this happen a few minutes ago. I restarted my system and now my keyboard doesn't respond properly. I'm stuck at the login screen. The function and number keys don't do anything. The other character keys cause the laptop to beep when pressed. NumLock, CapsLock, and ScrollLock turn on their respective lights, but that doesn't necessarily mean input from them is normal. Backspace is the only key that puts a character in the password text box, which is rather strange. The mouse works just fine. Does anybody have any idea what the heck is going on and/or have suggestions on how to fix this problem?
try plugging a second keyboard in. If that doesnt work then the keyboard setting me by setup for a different language or key format

According to your description, I suggest you check the keyboard if some keys were stuck.
If you press Win+W, Search page will appear on the screen of your computer.
Meanwhile,let us change a keyboard to test it.
If the issue persists, I suggest you check if there are the keyboard shortcuts conflict.
Please try the clean boot mode to test it.

On my number pad, 7 is 8. On the main numbers 8 brings up search charm, 0 reloads a page. Along with other strange stuff. Keyboard settings are correct for my region, please help this is driving me mad.
Sadly, you told us nothing about this computer so we don't even know if this is a notebook with integrated keyboard or a PC and separate keyboard. I would try a different keyboard to verify it is not your keyboard.

So my keyboard has been fine for years but all of a sudden it started to act strange... Some key I press would have numbers with it. Like my "R" key will type out "0r" and only a few other keys are like that and my Space bar types "4"s. My number lock isnt on and I dont see any strange programs running.
If I type "R" and it comes up as "0r" I can go and delete the 0 but come on, I really cant be doing that all the time.
A virus scan showed up nothing. Im stumped. I have no clue whats wrong.

If that dosent work i have found that a usb keybourd will work when laptop one wont.

Hello, I've been here once before because I installed Windows 7 on my Dell Latitude D810 Laptop and the souns stopped completely but I figured it out now the final problem I have now is when even I wanna put a dollar sign or a question mark or anything of that kind....which sucks cause some of my passwords for different sites use those keys.....Doesn't work.

over here in the uk the @ key and " are reversed from the US keyboards im guessing your problem is similar

Hi, I recently acquired an Elitebook 8570w, but there's something wrong with the keyboard. The thing is that when I hit the 'z' button, it registers 'zn', same goes for 'r', which registers 'rq'. So some keys will write 2 letters if I press one or the other. I've allready tried downgrading from the latstes bios and replacing the keyboard with another. The problem also exists in the bios, so it's not Windows related, and an external keyboard works fine. Is it safe to say that this is a hardware issue? Or does anyone have the golden tip for me... Any new wireless gadgets nearby lately that could be interfering? Nothing blocking the signal? Batteries still hold a good charge? Our wireless keyboards have regular batteries in them.
About months ago I installed Google Chrome because I want to use Google Chromecast Since that time possibly only coincidentally my keyboard sometimes acts Keyboard & acting erratically Mouse as if it's not even connected After Keyboard & Mouse acting erratically having these Keyboard & Mouse acting erratically problems I then removed the Chromecast and Chrome but it seems to make no difference Sometimes when I press the keys there is a delay in when the letters appear on my monitor or nothing happens at all I then turn the keyboard on and off until it seems to reconnect although I don't think it actually had been disconnected I am using a Logitech MK keyboard mouse combination In addition Keyboard & Mouse acting erratically the mouse also started acting erratically moving rapidly in one direction or another very quickly eventually ending up where I had pointed it Also when I left-click on the mouse nothing happens at all much of the time This is a relatively new computer only been in use less than a year and until the problems described associated with the Chrome install it had worked flawlessly I use the computer for stock trading and these problems have made it unusable much of the time I have a backup Vista computer to use when these problems arise And I should also mention that the problems vanish as quickly as they appear But many times during the day they do show up and they are particularly frustrating when trying to make a buy or a sell and NOTHING happens Any help will be appreciated Thank you

Sometimes, out of nowhere, when i press some keys on my keyboard it does all this weird stuff like minimizing my window or just ignoring my command. When i tried clicking with my mouse, it highlights anything it clicks. I used security task manager and saw a bunch of these driver stuff. Do i possibly have a virus? I took a picture of the security task manager so you guys can see if i have a virus or anything. I currently have Norton.

Over the past month or so I have been noticing that my mouse keyboard have been acting strange I see it the most when I am gaming but basically what happens is occasionally there is a delayed response from my keyboard I ll be playing and then press to do a certain action and then second later it will do it It doesn t happen all the time but every now and then and it s really bothersome Even now as I am typing this message my keyboard is stuttering at least once every sentence I have tried a different keyboard on the PS port and have had the same problem Similar things have been happening with my mouse on the USB port I ll left click in game and it won t recognize it so I have to click again However it s not nearly as bad as the keyboard problem and who knows the problems could all be attributed to the keyboard Is it possible for a PS port to have problems ie not function correctly I was thinking of switching to a USB keyboard and then Funny Keyboard/Mouse Acting re-evaluating my problems to see if they still exist or if that might fix it nbsp

Download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet. (Not Recommended for XP64).
StopSign AV scanner was previously listed as rogueware and we highly suggest removing it.
BPS Spyware/Adware Remover (Bulletproof.com) is currently listed as rogueware--remove it. (instructions below)

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.
5) Login with your usual account. Make sure to close any open browsers.

Click 'Fix Checked' and close HijackThis.

Please do the following:
Instructions for using LSPFixDouble click on LSPFix.exe to run it.
Once running, you will be required to tick the disclaimer - "I know what I'm doing".
You'll find a window with 2 panes.
In the left pane which is labeled Keep, select all instances of apptoport.dll
Then click on the arrow pointing to the right, >>.
This will move the entry to the right pane labeled Remove
Click the Finish button to complete the fix.
If you are unsure about removing certain files, please come back and post the filenames here and I will advise you how to proceed.

Okay so I've been getting this problem lately where both my mouse and my keyboard start acting up after a few hours of the computer being turned on What happens is that the keyboard stops using and start after few acting mouse Keyboard a hours strangely both it's Keyboard and mouse both start acting strangely after a few hours normal functions ie pressing m to type m and starts doing a number of different things instead ranging from not work at all to opening programs and closing them Keyboard and mouse both start acting strangely after a few hours down by pressing F keys and pressing unique characters such as umlauted letters The mouse also acts up trying to run programs in administrator when they are pressed on the windows bar at the bottom The computer is pretty brand new a month old and I've been using a new mouse and keyboard since buying it also I've tried unplugging and resetting the keyboard when this happens but the only thing that seems to reset the issue is restarting my computer which fixes the problem I'm kind of stumped on this one and don't know what is causing it so any help would be appreciated Tl dr - My peripherals start doing weird things like opening programs on left clicking randomly - Jordyi
Do you have anything running in the background and have you tried system restore? Also have you done anti-virus scan?

I didn't know if I could trust MS Sec Essentials, but I went ahead and did a full scan. It found 'Exploit:Java/CVE-2012-4681' (3 items) and deleted them. I rebooted, and everything seems to be working again. However, I'm wary... can I go ahead and trust it and get back online with it?

From time to time, mostly after my laptop comes out of sleep, my mouse (Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000) acts weird. Notably, double-clicking a file on the desktop (left button) brings up the properties menu. In fact, it appears that the system thinks that the alt-key on my usb keyboard is pressed even though it is not. This bug is present in different brands of usb keyboards I tested. Quickly cycling through ctrl-winkey-alt buttons seems to clear the registered alt-key. Any suggestions to correct this behavior? Could the language bar be the culprit? Thanks.

Go to device manager make sure that mouse and keyboard drivers are up to date and has no yellow warning markers.
I have an old IBM PC300GL with Windows NT4 and as soon as I login the mouse flickers and moves from top to bottom and the keyboard also be comes unusable. These actions stop when the task manager is opened and they do not occur before I login. I'm thinking there is a process running that is causing them to act like this. The problem is I can't tell a good process from a bad one. Anyone have any ideas?

Mouse (and Behavior to buy new ones but what if it doesn t help These are compaq mouse and keyboard that came with the computer PS both corded mouse with a ball two button and a wheel Windows XP Media Edition It started a couple of months ago only related with Internet browsing Worst affected was Firefox WHen I clicked to write in a field the cursor behaved as if I pressed the wheel and turned into the cross arrows to move the page around The page was thus scrolling up and down depending how I moved the mouse In IE the cursor seemed quot not working quot clicking had no effect whatsoever Most of the time it would quot pass quot by itself Just leave Internet for mins or so and do something else Then it stopped I had no problems for maybe a month Now the same problems came back with an exception IE is fine Only FF and it s rare My problem is that now one of my favorite apps seems to be affected by these weird Strange Mouse Behavior (and Keyboard?) problems And it s even weirder When I open Photoshop not any other part of the suite ImageReady works fine certain parts of the screen are un-clickable It looks as if the mouse click on them you know the mouse-over effect but nothing happens Sometimes keyboard shortcuts work sometimes they don t but there s no shortcut for some important functions that I need to do Is it my Photoshop suite not working Is it mouse Is it OS
I would uninstall all of your Firefox add-ons, then uninstall Firefox. Then install a freshly downloaded copy to see if it fixes your problems. Add the add-ons one at a time and test to see if the problem returns.

Hey guys, I am having major problems with my Laptop and was hoping someone might be able to help me as I can't find a solution anywhere. Its a Advent 7105 about 18 months old running on Windows XP and has worked pretty well apart from the occasional freeze until all of a sudden it completely froze (it seemed pretty hot) with the mouse in the centre of the screen and all of the keys totally frozen. I tried rebooting via the power button and windows loaded up fine but the mouse and all of the keys remained frozen. I have tried multiple further reboots but the problem remains. Even before windows loads all of the keys are frozen so I can't access safe mode or set-up etc. I have tried taking the battery out and the like but to no avail.
Any Ideas?

Could be dirt and crud and you can try sucking out whatever possible from the vents underneath...but do not go inside.
Hi, I have a very strange problem. Windows vista wont recognize my touchpad's scroll (when I move my finger up and down on the right side of the toucpad nothing happens). Ive tried fixing it in the control panel, but I apparently cant.
Also, I use a western spanish keyboard and I cant use @ (in spanish keyboard is (AltGr+Q)). I can only use it by changing the keyboard to English (Shift+2). Anybody has a solution??

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me here. When we go to turn the computer on we can hear it surge to boot up and then it starts to beep "beep-beep, beep-beep" continually. Nothing appears on the monitor, although the power light comes on. Neither the laser mouse nor the keyboard flash on, as they typically do at start up. What could be the problem? And how do we fix it? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
First thing I would do...is check the keyboard connection. Unplug it and the plug it back in securely. Then try to boot.

XP sp with norton internet sercurity and try to keep my computer clean as possible using various programs but something strange has happened my brother gave me a disc called most amazing disc in the world I know I should have checked the disc for virus s but I didnt as my brother had used it anyway i noticed that the numlock capslock and scroll lock lights on the keyboard started flashing together everytime I moved the mouse odd I thought then I realised that the computer was acting as if shift key was being held in but it wasnt then as if the ctrl key was being held in but it wasnt I changed the keyboard but still the same ran norton and it found virus on my pc from the disc bugger I thought so i formatted my computer and installed Xp again all has been well for weeks until it has just started happening again about mins after the lights started flashing norton detected a virus and said it had deleted it anyhow the shift alt ctrl buttons are playing up again I cant type until the keyboard decides to let me I have searched the world trying to fix this problem but to no avail until I took my computer to work one of the fellas to have a look after a few hours of deleting keyboard drivers searching google and search logs etc we stumbles across that if you unplug the ps mouse and use a USB mouse then all is well I could format again but would really like to suss this out so I can solve the problem if it happens again any advice would be great I could just continue using this USB mouse but I hate the thought that my computer isnt well and would like to know why cheers regards Pants nbsp

Hi all I hope you can help me with a very annoying problem that started around weeks ago - that seems to be getting worse My PC is only around months old - Windows bit and has developed a very weird problem It first started with my cut paste shortcuts Ctrl C Ctrl V not working in Firefox - basically I can't copy anything when using Firefox but then affecting Keyboard Mouse problem functions and Strange occasionally it DOES work This works fine in Internet Explorer however Also in Firefox when jumping between fields when completing a form the TAB key no longer works but again works ok in IE The next most annoying problem is the Mouse - a single click will often behave as a double-click This happens with everything - when opening programs email folders etc Strange problem affecting Mouse and Keyboard functions Today the problem has spread to my Wacom Graphics tablet - the pen is now acting strangely as though it's also double-clicking a lot of the time making work almost impossible I'm pretty sure this is a Windows problem not my keyboard tablet and mouse all Strange problem affecting Mouse and Keyboard functions going wrong at the same time I tried a System Restore a few times when this first started but the problems were back within a day or two I've played with the mouse settings and tried changing the speed etc but this hasn't worked The problem doesn't happen every time - I would say about of the time it doesn't work properly Does anybody have any advice as to what I can try to find and fix this problem Many thanks in advance Sharon

Oh, the joys of computing! Haven't seen this before. Updated my 8530p to Windows 10. Tried to check on drivers and make sure all devices were working. Then the fun started. Not always (very weird!) but almost always, I could move the arrow to an item on the screen but I could not "select" it (nor right-click, either). Neither set of the touchpad keys work, so of course I thought it was perhaps the Synaptics software (though the mouse cursor moves). Connected a wireless mouse and, again, I could move the cursor but neither left nor right clicking worked. Then moved the mouse cursor and tried the Enter key. It doesn't work, either. Now it may be because the mouse cursor isn't really connecting to the item, I don't know, but I can't begin to debug with no input functionality. Any help?

Can't narrow down to mouse or USB port happens quite frequently at least once every five to ten minutes up to every couple of minutes I've tried different USB ports and the problem continues to happen with the mouse I've used my external hard drives and other USB devices in those same USB ports and not experienced any problems whatsoever with them The odd thing is that I've taken my mouse to work even though it technically wasn't bring your mouse to work day and used it for a whole shift without experiencing the first issue I've used it on my wife's laptop and also expereinced no issues After eight Mouse is acting flaky. Can't narrow down to mouse or USB port years I really can't complain if I have to buy a new mouse I'd like to buy one of the new Logitech wireless gaming mice anyway I'm just concerned that I may buy a new mouse only to find out I'm still experiencing the same problem I'd really like to narrow the issue down to the mouse or my computer before I decide to purchase a new mouse My system is running Windows Home Edition -bit I've taken the mouse apart cleaned it inside and out and checked for loose or broken connections There seem to be no problems there I've went into Device Manager and double-checked all of the USB Root Hubs to make certain quot Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power quot are unchecked I really don't know what else to try Any ideas Thanks - Byron Followell

Hi I am running Vista and in the past is acting PC My very strange couple of weeks or so have noticed that my PC is acting very strange I dont usually turn the PC off when it's not in use and so it just goes to screensaver and I turn the monitor off Well I've My PC is acting very strange heard what sounds like someone plugging the audio in the speakers make the noise like when the jack is plugged into the back of the PC and then I hear the noise it makes when you plug a USB device in kind of a bong I guess It makes that noise once and the twice in My PC is acting very strange rapid succession likes something's been unplugged and then plugged back in again When I turn the monitor on I dont see anything running and nothing looks like it's running in My PC is acting very strange the background when I open task manager I'm beginning to think someone's hacked me or is using my pc to send spam or something because when I open Mozilla there are a lot of sites in the history I know I havent been to I've checked and remote connections are not enabled I dont know what to do about this I bought a new video card last year and have had no problems with it but recently I noticed that the fan on it has been making a noise I pulled it out and looked at it and it's kind of loose in its housing and I think it's rubbing on the housing which is making that noise Could it be an issue with the card I think the video card is also the sound card but I'm not SURE of that The reason I bring that up is that I've noticed sometimes when I unplug my headphones that the sound doesnt work out of the speakers anymore I end up having to reboot the computer to get the sound back I figured that was a driver issue but I've got current drivers The issue with it waking up and making the sounds as if something has been plugged in USB doesnt happen when I'm using it It's only when it's sitting idle That's what makes me think someone has hacked me or I've got a trojan or something Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance

On my sisters pc, I press the button to turn on but the only thing that starts is the processor and the graphic card fans spins up, the HD doesnt or the dvd drive wont open and the screen doesnt come on either just acts like its in standby (by that I mean the light flashes).
its very strange and I cant sort it, Ive removed all cables and plugged back in, ive unplugged dvd drive and tried, also unplugging HD and graphics card.
Something is either failing or failed.
If the hard drive wasn't working as stated, you wouldn't see any activity...

The first place to start is by undoing those tweaks to see if they were the cause. If you're unable to locate them, then I'd suggest a system restore to a date prior to the tweaks.

I left for a week and when I returned I noticed that IE* was slow so I rebooted ...it took over 7 Minutes to reboot ...and I lost count on loading files ... I went into MSCONFIG ..only found one file that looked suspect ..unchecked it ...no name just a bunch of assi stuff
also have run malewayrebytes and tdsskiller ...both came back clean ....I also noticed that it took about 4 to 5 minuted to shut down when I restarted it ...
CPU use is not over loaded and I have plenty of ram ... it used to take no more that a minute to boot
oh one more thing ...after it finnaly boots ..programs seem ok ...I played wow for about 4 hours with no issues
I'd try running chkdsk /r command.
Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter.
Type Y and hit Enter.
Reboot.
Upon completion of command, the system will boot into Windows.

hi i have been experiencing some really strange probs with pc it has been strange pc acting is closing programes programs will not run i recieve error message this programme has had to close etc i have run mcfee virus spybot spyware lava ad adware pc mighty max but nothing has helped i noticed that also when ever i open a programme my cpu is maxed out to quite alot of the time so inevtably this wil slow things down i tried to run hijack and save log but it came back with error object variable or with block varible not set so i am un able to save this log and paste it on this forum Please could somebody help P s normally when i first start up i am able to run most programmes it is only when it is on for pc is acting strange a few mins that then some of th eprogrammes that i could open will not and i wont even get a response i e programme does nothing thanks hazy nbsp

my pc, on microsoft vista is acting really really strange lately.
When i turn it on, first of all it sounds like a vacuum and it didnt do that weeks ago, only when i opened up big programs. second of all i keep getting bsod's so thats pretty nasty too. Also when i start up it keeps giving me messages about something with SympSys tray or something. And I keep getting messages that programs don't work anymore and should be closed. this is really bad and it used to be a very fast pc but slowed down massively. i deleted alot of big files and have more than half of my HDD left so i don't think thats the problem.

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here, here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds to run the tool.When done, DDS will open two (2) logs: DDS.txt

hello, my pc have acting strange lately like showing me some errors like trying to use system restore and some other programs,and safe mode look like it,s infected to cause the same problems occurs there,i,ve tried differnet ant-virus programs but still this persists,the weird thing is that i don,t know if this is a worm,trojan,malware,bug. And it acts secretely like from a moment to another some errors occurs opening a program, i did windows repair while pressing f8 and it helped me to restore system restore back with no errors so it works now,but i this bug,malware,virus,trojan or what ever it is will come back with errors on my pc and i,m afraid that my pc will get worse,pls help me get this off my pc,pls help me.........

every 30 minutes or so, my computer is acting weird until i close IE. i can't right click on any where, can't move files, can't copy past and etc. it happens for no visible reason, i just open new tubs and it gets mad.
Some times it's also just getting stuck, like in the I've attached, or it's closing itself instantly.
Any help, is appreciated.

IE tools logClick Here to download IEtools v2. Save it to your desktop.
Go to your desktop right click on IEtools v2.zip and extract the files to your desktop.
Double click on IEtools.bat, then type in Log, then on the keyboard press Enter.
When finished it will produce a log, please post the log back into this thread.
hi guys,im new to this page,and i,m a bit afraid on my situation.I,ve been having problems with my computer,the 1 sign is that the cd/dvd drive opens and closes by itself like when i open the cd/dvd drive it closes by itself,like someone or something is telling to do that,and it happens when i,m connected and when i,m offline to and the thing is that cmd won,t open,it show in task manager but i can,t see it,and the main thing is that i used to have this problem before,but i formatted my pc and now it comes again and i,m worried if somoene is having acces to control my pc and i,ve tried making an antivirus scan,and still no virus found,any suggestions or answers would help,thank you.
Did you follow these steps to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 so you know you have the best install possible? If not I'd do it over deleting all partitions during the reinstall.
Be sure to read the Special Note to HP Owners at the end that will show you how to preserve the onboard Diagnostics triggered by the ESC key, if it will still run. Now would be a good time to try and run it.

Hello all I m just about at in ROM XP acting CD strange the end of my tether here Just bought a new PC which I built myself I was running Windows on it until my copy of XP arrived today Of course I was very exited as this is meant to be the best I installed XP by completely CD ROM acting strange in XP formatting the HD so it would be a nice fresh installation Now the installation goes fine no problems there at all But the CD drive will not work properly after installation of XP The drive appears in My Computer and when you CD ROM acting strange in XP insert a CD the label appears correctly but the icon if applicable just shows as the default icon Not the icon for a CD ROM drive but the same icon you see if a file type isn t registered Even the XP CD itself doesn t work If you open the icon to display the contents the CD spins up in the drive and after a minute or so the contents is displayed But you can t run any of the exe s and access to the drive is VERY slow about secs or so to do anything at all with it I can copy small files e g the couple of HTML files in the root of the CD to the HD But any bigger files I get an error saying quot Cannot copy lt filename gt The request could not be performed because of an I O device error quot If I boot into Safe Mode the CD drive works fine all files can be accessed copied or executed So just to recap finally - the CD drive worked fine in Windows and also in my old machine which was running ME It installs XP perfectly but won t work in normal mode but does work in Safe Mode I hope I ve given enough info and I hope someone out there has some help as I m getting rather narked at my nice new computer not wanting to play ball Sorry for the very long first post I look forward to seeing what you all think of this Thanks in advance Leo nbsp
what model and firmware is on the cd drive
I woke up this morning and found what looked like a friend trying to send me a pic on Windows Live Messenger. I tried to open the pick but could not. later I was playing a game and it would go into pause mode every few minutes. then I started getting a window popping up titled Audio and Video Setup. I clicked cancel but it continues coming back. I am afraid to restart my PC in case that makes something take off. You guys have helped me before. Sorry if I am in the wrong section.
I would recommend running an antivirus scan (download avira if you dont have one), also run a spybot search and destroy if you have it, check to see if anything unusual comes up.

Your hard drive is almost full. Having too little free space on your hard drive can compromise system performance.

Hi guys!
Two weeks ago i installed the AVG free edition on my PC (HP Pavillon dv6000 series) after a virus infection.
Everything seemed to worked nice till yesterday night when AVG blocked a trojan attack. After a while i shut down my laptop and today first thing in the morning i found out that the winamp shortcut did not work. Moreover the AVG icon is missing from the notification area. MSCONFIG command shows that AVG starts same time with my PC but the icon is missing. I also can not AVG (seems unable to operate).
I suspect some suspicious things are going on. I also found (through CTRL +ALT+DEL) that a strange 1159008889:2263739066.exe exist on C/WINDOWS.
Can you please give me your input on what should i do? Is my PC infected again?

Back track-
Un-install PCI card/drivers and remove the card. Re-start the computer and see what happens. Very well could be a compatibility issue with the card.

I am having a very strange problem. Multiple browsers are having the same problem. IE8 and Firefox From time to time I click on a link and the browsers redirects to my home page. I have had Microsoft security essentials running on this machine for some time and it has not found anything. I ran Malwarebytes and again found nothing of note. I also ran CCleaner and the problem abated for a couple of days but has again resurfaced. Any suggestions for a next step?

My laptop is Asus S56C with windows 8 x64. Yesterday pc started acting really weird, sometimes running really unusually slow. My USB devices stopped working, the DVD drive also stopped working. The pc restarts started taking forever, about 5-7 minutes but they end up with a BSOD (DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE). I can't even put my laptop to sleep, it the screen goes black like it usually does, but it just resets after 5 minutes or so. I tried to install kaspersky 2013 antivir and it failed. I also tried going to safe mode which failed with a BSOD. Going to Recovery Environment also failed with a random restart. I even tried doing a factory reset, which just did nothing, the wheel kept spinning saying preparing for 1 hour. It's like a virus that blocks anything that would fix the pc. Help please

The thing is, my computer is acting really slow when it shouldn't be. I can tell when it's being slow because when i open windows of programs it makes the program jump down, or jump open really fast like it ran across the screen.
Just typing this it's going slow, like i said it never is like this.
I ran a full scan yesterday, came up with nothing.
I analyzed my disks and it was only 1%
Anyone no what I'm talking about? Can you help me fix this problem so I'm not worrying about it?
What software did you scan with?
If it was not Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, I suggest downloading that and doing a scan.
Ctrl+Alt+Delete, select Task Manager, then check the Processes tab and look at what is taking up the most processor processes/most RAM (a screenshot would help).

Neither would allow me to do so on my daughter's name, but I could do the AIM on mine. But now, I can't install either. I have tried to update IE6 and install IE 7, but am unable to do that either. When I check what version I have running of IE, it is blank. it isn't in my add/remove programs. I thought i would just uninstall and try again... I also have Mozillla running on the computer and it isn't 100%, but I thougth we'd start with the IE for now.
I did post a malware issue on another forum and used Hijack this and combo fix and probably other programs and was told the computer is clean.
The computer is running windows xp home edition version 2002 with Service Pack 2.

OK, so i'm just chatting and surfing the web as usual, and then Comodo comes up with one of its warnings.it says the Msn Messenger is trying to use Mozilla Firefox throught an OLE automation that can be used to hijack other programs.I never requested this action, so i click deny. All of a sudden, Firefox cannot connect to the internet. I have to use Internet Explorer. I suspect IRCbot is responsible, becuase i found a program linked to it in my processes on task manager. But if course, i cannot use F-bot to fix it because of problem siwth my temp folder which can be found hereThis happens every now and again, i always click deny because i dont think msn would even need to connect to the internet- must be some sort of malware!Can IRCbot do this? There was a recent Firefox update for Firefox 2, which I don't use, that this warning sounds like what the update was to protect against. I wonder if this is related to the update.
You might want to post a Hijack This log to find the malware if you suspect that it is malware related.
I ve been having problems with my computer monitor here lately it s been acting really strange This is what happens The monitor will turn strange colors and some of it will disappear I don t think it is is acting... Screen Strange... a BSOD since the last time my monitor did it it only went strange for about seconds and everything was alright During these quot Monitor Fits quot I guess you would call it it won t allow me to do anything half of time time maybe move the mouse for a few seconds and over half of the time I have to hard reset the computer I wish I could show you guys an example of what Screen is acting... Strange... I mean but I can only barely describe it as Half of the monitor picture disappears colorful wavy lines appear all over the monitor and the screen eventually fades to black in which you ll either have to wait for it to fix or reset the computer I thought Screen is acting... Strange... that it might be the drivers but the computer doesn t detect any errors when it happens so it s like I know it s happening but the computer doesn t I also noticed that for some reason my forceware for my Nvidia Card used to be and now its it has always been so maybe the improper drivers are installed I just got this computer back from HP after I thought it was broken Nothing worked but it turned out to be bad ram cards and I ran their Recovery Disc and stuff As more information when all three times it happened the first time I was watching a video in Windows Media Classic the second time I was playing a game in windows mode and the third was right after I closed down a game I think all three programs are programs that weren t made for Vista but I didn t think that should matter I have -Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack - gig of Ram - GHz -Nvidia Gforce M nForce m Thanks for your time nbsp

Look in event log. Only errors matter. Look for errors during time you have the problem.

hey everyone...
heres my story, im not that computer oriented but it doesnt take a genious to figure out that your computer is acting odd. i ended up[ downloading a new version of limewire.shortly after that this malware activation/subcription thing keep coming up...along with a million pop ups.shortly after that the items on my desktop just woulnt even appear anymore.like i stated previously im not very good at fixing computers nor knowing whats going on with them.any help comments good or bad it be greatly appreciated..or if anyone can guide me towards what i could do on wether theres something i could do or should i just buy a new one?

You know when you're downloading something, you can hear the computer working and the light on the Pc keeps blinking. Well, my computer is doing this onstop so I figure that something is wrong. I tried to looked for virus so I did some scan with "Malwarebytes", "MSE Anti-virus" & "Spybot" but nothing was found. I really don't know what's causing this but I also tried disconnecting the internet to see but it was still working and sounding like it was downloading. Can you please help me?

Hi Yannik - Run the Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete) and look under processes - see if theres anything running ? Then hit the services tab and see if you can see who's hogging your rig. If that provides no clue go to the performance tab, click on the Resource Monitor and then the Disk tab to see if you can find the offender.

Hi i have a couple of computers and i had them both connected to my router Yesterday the quot green i quot that says i have internet went orange so i assumed maybe my ISP was doing some maintenance today it was still the same and it seemed strange So I reset the router nd nothing happened so i just unplug router and connect the LAN to my main computer and no internet windows I did the same to my other computer windows vista and initially i had no internet So i left the wire there and went to do other stuff but then i hear the sound that MSN has connected so I thought great I have internet again I proceded to reconnect the LAN to the router and set my computers eck orange light and no internet again I reconnect to my windows vista one straight to the wall and again no internet I run troubleshooting and then whilst it was doing it it fixes itself i reconnected router and no internet I connect to windows and no internet i troubleshoot and no internet I thought all this was very weird so i reconnected rather but not IP valid Getting strange!! acting the windows vista one and I had internet again after some trouble shooting and not doing anything really just ran the troubleshooting When i tried on the windows one nothing would help i tried renewing IP resetting connection with router and without nothing seemed to help after so many tries reseting troubleshooting pluging Getting IP not valid but acting rather strange!! and unplugging it decided to connect But still im not happy how this is behaving Getting IP not valid but acting rather strange!! what is causing this what can i do to stop it and have internet back from my router I dont know if the router is damaged or if its causing problems of some sort When i connect to from the wall i get internet after a lot of havock and if i connect to the router it all goes down and feels impossible to have computers to connect to internet again All advice and help would be appreciated
just thought i would add, like i said on my previous post, i managed to get internet on my main computer (windows 7) and it seemed to be working fine. So I did a restart without unplugging the LAN from the computer or doing/changing anything. It restarted with no internet again!!

It was working fine yesterday, I used it to burn a dvd image onto a blank dvd.
Today I attemptted to burn some files to a dvd and XP won't even set the shortcuts, says "problem copying windows encountered a problem when trying to copy this file".
With CD media, it works just works fine, and it can see the content of already burned DVDs and read the files. So the only problem seems to be writing on DVD media, it can read DVDs, and it can read and write CDs.
-I removed and re-added the driver.
-did a system restore to a previous time before all recent app installs.
-verified it is the same type of media (+R, 8X)
-tried different DVDs
-rebooted a couple of times
Can anyone help me solve the enigma?
Lately Chrome has been taking forever to open Going from seconds to - mins Yeah it s that bad When I do get it running it runs like normal except for the fact that it won t download ANYTHING Now when I say that I Acting Strange Chrome mean Chrome Acting Strange it won t even register that something should be download ex I click on a download button link and absolutely nothing happens No asking where I want to put it no bar at the bottom showing it downloading and no reaction whatsoever Trust me I ve waited hours just see if was just delayed Also on top of that there are some webpages that I ve been to in the recent past and now Chrome will just halfway load them up the page will freeze and it will continually show that it s still loading TL DR Chrome takes - mins to open Chrome won t download anything Chrome halfway loads certain websites and freezes when there wasn t any problems in the past Any and all suggestion would be appreciated Thank you Edit Forgot to mention but it s only with Chrome I m have this problem IE for example works fine nbsp
So recently my laptop tends to have a mind of its own. Some of these things are:
Opening programs when computer is not in use.
Flipping monitor completely when computer in not use
copying and pasting icons on homescreen multiple times when computer is not in use.
I actually got fed up and restored the computer as that should typically work, right?
NO. Same thing is happening.
I have researched these symptoms and it looks like Im the first person ever cause I cant find a fix nor resolution to this.
If anyone can help, it would be a great help.
Do you have an anti-virus installed? Have you ran anti-malware programs such as malwarebytes or hitmanpro? Have you ran or downloaded something untrusted?

When I open Computer to access the drives and flash memory, I get an annoying green bar that travels across the top. This can take over an hour. Why every time I open it up it does this. What is it doing? My computer is running fine.

My windows XP home edition has been acting strange , sometimes the computer freezes for no reason and has to reboot, then sometimes i have a couple of applications open, then they flash orange and i click on them aand it doesn't open, sometimes it opens behind whatever i am viewing and in some cases i have to click on a application or (window) a couple of times too much to open or even right click on it. This is really pissing me off :|, i have overclocked my RAM and CPU a little, temperatures are good according to various programms. But this has occured well after i overclocked. plz can sumone help, i dont want to go throguh the bother of reinstalling windows unless i have to, but that means i have to back up all ofmy stuff and reinstall drivers etc.

I restarted my laptop just by pressing the physical power button, and when it finished, my wallpaper said something about my active desktop not working (or something) and a button to press to restore. I kept clicking and nothing happened. Also, a popup said that my security isn't letting me use ActiveX (or something like that...). AND...on top of that, my ObjectDock program has no icons AT ALL!
Before I use System Recovery, I'm wondering if there is a way to fix everything that's going on. Thanks.
PS - This happened shortly after installing WindowFX. Is it that or is it me restarting the wrong way?

Well sounds like you are getting your desktop off of a Website, am I right there.
To prevent the button press to get the wallpaper back up you can do a few things, one would be to get the image onto your hardrive. The other would be to stop trying to kill you PC by hard booting, it hurts the registry, and you wallpaper in this case.
