Q: Flash drive repair

How to repair a corrupt 64gig flash drive

Relevancy 100%
Preferred Solution: Flash drive repair

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Flash drive repair

Hi, This really depends on how it has 'gone wrong'.
If it's a hardware failure then nothing you can do will sort it out.
But if it's a software/format failure then;
Save everything you want off of it with a program such as 'Recuva'.
https://www.piriform.com/recuva/download
Then Format it again by;
Right-click on the Flash drive's icon in 'explorer' or 'Computer',
Choose 'Properties' from the list,
Choose 'Format'
Set the option of FAT 32,
Untick the 'Quick format' option, so that you are using the slower full format option.
Click OK.
Note that all the files that were on it will be gone, so be sure to save any valuable files first, if you can.

ive searched solutions for this problem but everythng didnt worked.

A:Raw flash drive, how can I repair it?

Could you tell us what flash drive you have? And how it got to be raw in the first place?

And are you sure repartitioning it doesn't work? If so then my guess is that it's probably corrupt. If you received it like this straight from the store then I would turn it back in for a refund and get a new one. Otherwise I'm curious as to how it got this way in the first place, as that may shed some light to a viable solution.

My 127GB usb key stopped working when a format process was interupted.now, though visible in windows explorer, i can't open or format it.a message pops up asking that i should connect the device. Also, the MBR has been lost and the drive detailed properties display 0 MB for its capacity, unallocated and reserved space.
SOME ONE SHOULD PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO FIX THIS STUFF.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELPFUL POSTS

"Also, the MBR has been lost and the drive detailed properties display 0 MB for its capacity, unallocated and reserved space."
That is bad, however, a complete format should fix it.
Google and download HP USB format utility, try formatting with that.

What brand and model is your flash drive?
My "quotes" button is missing O.O.

Hello ageneston, and welcome to TSG.

It is rather difficult to hlp you if you do not tell us the kind of problem you are having and what operating system you are running. It might help us to also know the brand and model number/name of the drive.

Hi,

I had a working USB flash disk this morning, but I accicentally pulled it out of the PC (Windows XP Pro), before I copied off the files. Now every PC I tried asks if I want to format it and I noticed the drive is marked as "RAW".

I can see it in both explorer and in the disk management, but I cannot access it.

Is there any way I can restore the partition without formatting it? I really need some files from it.

Thanks.

A:How to Repair/Reinstall Windows 7 from a bootable Linux flash drive?

Unfortunately even if you could audit the installed key it will not work because it's the Factory mass-activation key which is different than the COA sticker Product Key used to Clean Reinstall. Your choices are therefore to order Factory Recovery disks or extract and reinstall the OEM-SLP activation file which these forums do not support any further due to piracy concerns.

So I would try everything possible to Troubleshoot Windows 7 Failure to Boot which is included in the blue link.

If you end up needing to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 we have many reports that MS phone activation will replace the key if you convince them that it is simply worn off the sticker.

I recently purchased a 32 GB San Disk Flash Drive. The security files pre-installed on the drive were junk, and I could not delete them so I formatted the drive to remove them. This cleaned the disk, and it holds data, but I'm not sure if this is part of my problem. I am trying to load my copy of windows 7 onto this disk, and using the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool, I can select my ISO file, but when I go to select my USB drive, my computer does not recognize the flash drive as a flash drive. Is there a way to change the Flash Drive so Windows will recognize my Flash Drive as removable media? Smaller USB drives still work on my computer, so its not the computer. Anyone have any suggestions?

A:Removable Flash Drive Recognized as a Local Disk and not a Flash Drive

Hello masonta. Welcome to the forum.

Let's start with this: can you post a screenshot of your Disk Management window, expanded so we can read everything, with the USB stick installed?

You also might check in Device Manager to see if the stick shows up as a USB device, or a hard disk.

I would like to transfer all of the files on 1 flash drive to another flash drive. Dragging them takes too long. Is there a quicker way to transfer the files?

A:Transferring data from 1 flash drive to another flash drive

There really isn't another way to copy them. They have to physically read from one device and write on another. Depending on size of files and how many, it can indeed take a while. The only thing that would speed up the process is if you had USB 3.0 drives. I assume you are using 2.0.

If this is possible, can you refer me to some instructions on how to do this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

A:Can you put Recovery Drive D on a flash drive to free up hard drive

To be honest a recovery drive won't give you much space (10 GB or so?). You are better off with a USB external HDD and move your less accessed data to the external.

I wonder what others will say.

After Transferring file from Seagate External drive to flash drive 16G. (Verbatim)

I can't remove hardware device on Verbatim Flash drive to remove it.

Even after I close all the files, folders and programs in my computer.
It won't say "safe to remove device".

I have to switch off the computer to remove the flash drive.

Is this normal or what ?

If not what can be the problem ? I can fix ?

Is it safe to remove device even if I can't disable the usb flash drive ?
I closed all the files, fodlers and programs before I remove.

Thanks.

A:Transferring file from Seagate External drive to flash drive

The computer may still be saving data to the Flash. Or it is caught in ROM. If your certain the transfer is complete, you can pull the drive. You may want to do a Check Disk on the Flash Drive to make sure it is in good order.

Basically, I want to use my usb flash drive or daemon tools to burn music and then rip into lossless formats. I tried optical storage, but has not given good results lately despite the fact the cd-rw is new. With USB drive, it is a u3 flash drive 1gb from sandisk. And I have daemon tools lite on windows 7. All I know is the main idea is to have one of the two(if possible) be passed as a cd burner. The only problem is, I do not know how to do that, and any help is appreciated.

A:usb flash drive OR a daemon tools virtual drive to use as a cd burner.

Hi Pheonix220. Welcome .

Daemon Tools is a disk emulator, which means that it will create 'images' or ISOs from a CD or other source and can then "mount" it so that it appears to be a physical drive on your system.

I'm not sure exactly what your goal is, but I find it unlikely that Daemon Tools will be of use unless you want to creae ISOs of music for mounting and playing?

If you are more specific about what your needs are, perhaps we can be more helpful.

I have a similar problem to a question asked in 2011- mine is on an Acer Veriton without optical drive. So I followed the advice there and changed the SATA BIOS from AHCI to Native IDE. The result of that was that I never go as far as the select partition screen - just the BSOD!I reset the BIOS and got the same result. So now I can't get anything to work on installing XP - yuck! The BSOD gave advice to use CHKDSK /f but as I don't have anything yet installed, I have no way of doing it. Now I have an unusable PC, thanks to WinToFlash.Tony

Can't comment on that old post unless you give a link - no idea how you found it. Maybe it (or your hardware) was not similar enough."I reset the BIOS"Do you mean you put the settings back to the way you found them or did you do a BIOS reset? Please provide the model number of your computer.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

I would be tempted to reload the motherboard chipset drivers. They control the USB I/O and if they are just the default WIndows ones, they may not be 100% OK with the specific motherboard hardware.

A:Laptop needs USB floppy drive to reinstall Win XP, can I use flash drive/memory instead?

Well, you are going to have problems... Sorry to say...

First off, most PCs with SATA drives will have an option in the BIOS to place it in IDE mode. This assures that Windows Setup will be able to detect it as a drive with the ability to be installed to.

As for USB drives, it all depends on your BIOS version and manufacturer. Toshiba for example, does not support ANY usb device unless it is made by their company. It sucks, yes, but i guess for more money for crappy products.

You can install the drivers to a flash drive, but you will also have to make a bootable image to that drive, and load your windows setup files, manually format and partition the drive, copy the files over, then start the setup process to do that. It is a huge hassle that I had to deal with on a Toshiba Portege 3500.

Backing up is a bit easier. You can use the built in windows backup software (Start>All Programs>Accessories>System tools> Backup) and make a complete backup to an external drive to restore after format. The problem is YOU WILL ALSO TRANSFER THE VIRUSES YOU HAVE!!!

If you use the file and settings transfer wizard, you can transfer most of your stuff, but you WILL HAVE TO REINSTALL A LOT OF YOUR SOFTWARE, as it will not transfer your registry entries.
Your best bet is to get an Antivirus/spyware removal tool (Such as www.superantispyware.com) and an anti MAlware software (such as Malwayebytes). This will clear most of your infections, and gives you more time to backup your files and get software discs ready.

I have a HP system that has crashed. I have a new hard drive that I installed but want to repair my old hard drive and or bring all programs and files over to the new hard drive. My main user account is not letting me access now while plugged in as drive G. I can access all other accounts on the hard drive but the one I NEED is not allowing me. Says access denied. Computer was part of a network but is now just a stand alone.

How can I repair the old drive to use again
Or how can I pull over all of my files and programs to the new drive.

As a reminder both drives are connected to the same laptop which is HP 6730s
drive C is the new hard drive and
drive G in the old hard drive

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

A:how to repair xp pro with hard drive as external drive

The only way to move installed programs from one hard drive to another...is to create a partition or drive image that transfers the contents (all) from Drive 1 to Drive 2.

Some "backups" do this also, rather than needing Windows and the installed program...in order to restore in part or fully.

The problem that I see...is that you only have 1 computer and...it's a laptop.

Let's await other inputs.

When I use DVD Flick Burning files mpg files or Nero burning audio cd from mp3s.
Does it matter whether I burn from source hard drive or flash drive ?

Is it better to copy files to hard drive first before burning ?
Is it less chance of getting errors ? Or doesn't make any difference ?

Since flash drive doesn't have any parts to wear out.
Is it better to use flash drive as source or it doesn't make any difference to wearing of the hard drive ? I think it still wears out hard drive in any case regardless what source you from, but does it make any difference ?

Thanks.

A:Burning files from hard drive or flash drive ?

It makes no difference. You can use either method. Flash drives can transfer the data to the cache and DVD drive fast enough to avoid any buffer underrun errors.

If you're worried about getting errors, just drop the burning speed down a notch from maximum.

I have had two Maxtor external hard drives fail on my wife's PC. Each one has only lasted 18 months or less. Even though the backup process was easy and automatic I am considering going with a Flash USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Thumb-type Drive to manually backup important files and images. Is there anything wrong with this method of backup that I'm unaware of?

My wife's PC has genealogy software with lots of files and associated images, etc. (for over 40,000 people), which is about 10GB in size. It is this information that needs to be backed-up whenever additions/changes are made.

I am thinking about replacing the [most recently] expired Maxtor external hard drive with either a 16GB or 32GB Flash USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Thumb-type Drive. Is this a reasonable method for backup? Which GB size would you recommend? Brand?

Thanks!

I'm in the process of moving to an SSD and need to create a backup drive in order to repair the BIOS after transferring everything However flash Create recovery drive won't drive a recognize when I try to create one - the create a recovery drive program won't recognize the flash drive I have connected as a flash Create a recovery drive won't recognize flash drive drive I first tried with a SanDisk Cruzer which apparently had a quirk in that it Create a recovery drive won't recognize flash drive shows up as a hard drive instead of removable flash drive That seems to be well documented on forums all over the place and there is no fix So I purchased a cheap GB stick no brand and Windows I'm running x recognizes it as a removable disk However the create a backup utility still won't recognize it I've Create a recovery drive won't recognize flash drive found some random fixes that have worked for some such as plugging it into a different USB port but nothing has worked for me so far I've tried doing it with the quot copy the recovery partition quot option both checked and unchecked If there's no solution to this wonderful quot quirk quot of Windows then is there something else I can do to repair BIOS Seems like there's not a fix to my problem out there EDIT So as of right now I tried using HPs recovery software which seems to do the same thing as copying over your entire recovery partition That didn't work either However when I had both USB sticks plugged in the Windows supplied utility recognized the SanDisk Cruzer when I checked the quot copy the partition quot thing so this might be solved

A:Create a recovery drive won't recognize flash drive

You might save yourself a lot of aggravation by down loading a free copy of Macrium Reflect, you can make a Disk Image that can be restored to any drive it will fit on. or just copy/clone to your SSD. just make sure your current drive doesn't have more data than will fit on the SSD, Reflect will adjust the C: partition size

The recovery USB needs to work they are not created equal if Reflect doesn't recognize it get another one that will. I can't help you with the other program you are using Reflect is known to work for everyone.

My question is in refrence to external hard drives. Is there an external hard drive out there that has similar properties to that of a flash drive. What I mean by this is can I get an external hard drive that I can drag items to it to save and just as easily access the file by opening the drive. So far I have two external hard drives and they are both similar in the fact that I can back up my files on them but I can't access them on the hard drive itself, I would actually have to recover files on my computer. Can anyone enlighten me on this issue.

A:External hard drive similar to flash drive?

Yes there are lots of external USB hard drives out there but I find even on Newegg that alot of them get crappy reviews for having bad software or not syncing correctly. They can get into very large sizes however like up to 2terabytes or more depending on what your budget is
That is a 640gb external hard drive pretty simple to use just plug it in and store your stuff. including data files for when you backing up your pc. Personally I shop at Frys Electronics they always have good deals but newegg has a big selection and sells things cheaper than Frys alot of the time

Apparently I need 5 posts to start doing links so below this post is the link to the external drive

I would think for any full fledged av program you could put the exe. file on the flash drive and then install it on most any computer. Such programs as Avast, Antivir, and AVG should work in that manner.

I am using win XP. I bought a generic flash drive and it worked well for two days. Now, my computer shows it as a removable drive, but when I try to access it, it asks me to insert a disc into it!!

Also, when I click properties - it shows there is no capacity on the flash drive. I am a beginner with computers, I would appreciate some help in layman terms. Thank you.

A:My Computer thinks my flash drive is a floppy drive! Help!

Did your Flash come with any software? Xp is obviously confused as to exactly what the drive is .
It may be that the drive is full. Try formatting it .Right click on the drive in My Computer.
If there is a Web page for the Drive see if they have drivers for it .Download the file.

Often you can plug the drive in and go to Device Manager . there you can uninstall the drive by right clicking on it and uninstall. Then reboot with the drive left in.Xp will try to install drivers when you get back to Desktop.Cancel that and use the Hardware Wizard to search for the drivers .Here you choose the device from the lists that are offered to you. That of course is if your drive is listed.

My office workstation running Windows XP Pro is connected to the corporate network (Active Directory) so that I have storage space on the server. When I plug in a USB flash drive (any make), it takes over my network home directory drive letter. I can reassign the flash drive via disk management, but that is a pain, as I use flash drives a lot. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Our tech does not have a solution. It does not appear to be a problem on any other workstations on the system.

I just noticed my computer doing this today, i don't think its done it before.. anyway every time i insert my flash drive its a different drive letter, going in order. Like it went from N to O to P to Q.. Why won't it just use the same one (first available) each time? I've gone into disk management and set a drive letter but it doesn't stick, when I reinsert the drive its different again. It seems like windows doesn't want to recognize that this is the same drive, so each time it thinks its a new device.

Open command prompt with administrator privileges by going to Start,All Programs,Accessories,Command Prompt.Right click it and select "Run as administrator".
Type diskpart. Then type list disk.Find your USB drives and type select disk 3 if it is one of them. You can know by their size.DON'T select disk 0.It's your Windows drive. Then type clean.

Don't type it if you don't have backed up your files on the drive. This will delete the drive.

My flash drive has worked many times, but now is being recognized under drive E. It will ask me to insert a disk into the drive. How do I recovery my documents on this flash drive?

Thank you in advance!

A:Flash drive asking to insert disk into drive E

First verify you are not starting the computer with the flash drive inserted. PC may be trying to boot from disk depending on BIOS settings.

Depending on your OS (not mentioned in your post) with flash drive inserted.
Click Start -> My computer -> Computer management -> disk management. Right Click on removable drive partition and change the drive letter to something else ( Not X).

Unfortunately Its most likely your flash drive has failed. They do that.

To run a Win7 from a flash drive, you need a Win7 Enterprise edition (because of the product key activation problems).

You can, however, install Win8 on a flash drive because there are currently no activation problems. Windows 8 To Go - Setup on a USB Flash Drive or USB Disk

You should know though that a really fast USB3 flash drive is required to make that a pleasant experience. On a USB2 drive it will work like molasses and you will soon be fed up (I have tried it).

Consider that for the price of a fast 32GB USB3 flash drive you can buy a 60GB SSD which you can also attach via USB3 or eSata and that might be a better deal.

A:?? external hard drive, USB flash drive

First off, you'll want to make sure whatever device you purchase has W98SE drivers, not all of them do. Personally, I'd buy the USB external hard disk, because with the new system, it'll be very useful for a backup device.

Speaking of backup, you do realize that if something were to erase that disk, or the disk were to fail, you'd lose everything there. See my signature line.

Have you looked in Disk Management after plugging one in? Right-click Computer, click Manage. If the drive shows there it may need a drive letter assigned [right-click menu] before Windows Explorer [File Explorer on Win8] can see it.

I was just thinking the other day it'd be nice to not have my drives start from c:\ but rather from a:\
Some older apps i work with (why i don't know) require any a:\ drive to load bootable files etc and having a flash as a:\ (even for ReadyBoost) would be kinda usefull!

if anyone can suggest how i could do this (windows partition manager only allows you to start with c:\ even if you have the controller disabled...)

Thanks!

I need extra storage space as my laptop has nearly run out of space on the back-up recovery drive.

I have masses of digitial photos on my laptop (all saved as highest quality) so the files are big. As I want to keep them all and keep adding to them, I need somewhere to store them all. Would it best to get a USB flash drive or an external hard drive for this purpose?

I won't need to carry anything around, I purely need something for storage.

Thanks for any help.

I just got a new/used Acer Aspire One laptop. The OS on the Acer and my home computer (a Gateway laptop) is Win 7 Home 32 bit. A Cruzer 4gb USB flash drive came with the Acer laptop.
The USB flash drive has been split up. 3.73gb's is on the original (drive letter G) and 97meg's is on a virtual drive (drive letter F). According to Win 7 computer management. The virtual drive on the USB stick is locked. Every attempt to dump the virtual drive and make the hole USB flash drive 4gb's with 1 drive letter have hit a dead end. I can reformat the 3.73gb on the original drive letter G but the virtual drive F remains read only. And I don't need the prog stored there anyways.

I am running XP Pro with SP1. My colleague has a PC with the same hardware configuration and I had no problem plugging the usb2.0 flash drive in his machine.

Device manager did show the usb2.0 flash drive when I plugged it in the usb port.

Any idea?

Recovery drive won't allow me to use my 8 gb flash drive. It doesn't even recognize it. It will only recognize it when i uncheck the "Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive. I'm assuming this is because unchecked needs 512mb and checked needs 8gb, but like I said I am using an 8gb flashdrive. Could it be because the full 8gb isn't available on the drive (only 7.45 gb is allocated) If so, can I make my flashdrive use its full 8gb? I've posted pictures below just in case you need more of an idea about what I'm talking about.

A:Recovery Drive Not Recognizing Flash Drive

You need a larger drive.

Now I'm Outta Here answered 9 months ago: My 8gb usb only shows as 7.45 gb? - Yahoo Answers

that's the way it works

true 8GB will be equal to 8,589,934,592 bytes
- that number comes from 1,024 x 1,024 x 1,024 x 8

but the storage industry decided to start ripping us off along time ago and changed the 1,024 down to 1,000
thus the new formula is 1,000 x 1,000 x 1,000 x 8 = 8,000,000,000 bytes

which after windows converts back to real GB you get aprox. 7.45GB

A:Flash drive connected to USB hub; where is drive located?

I found one method that works. Since acquiring my computer I've not bothered with the large SSD slot on side of flatscreen all-in-one monitor. I got thinking, I have a Bell micro-sd adapter, I wondered what would occur if I slipped the chip out of my thumbdrive adapter [which connects via a USB port/hub] put it in the larger adapter & then slid that into the SSD slot on the computer. PRESTO! The system automatically recognized it & opened it as a media device under :F drive. This may be the only way I can do photo & video stuff from my micro-SD memory card from here on out. But, I still think it doesn't explain WHY I can't do it the other way by using the thumb drive adapter that plugs into the USB. The computer should open up the flash drive...or if I had my Duracell memory stick inserted, the computer should recognize something is in the USB port & open that...but it's not. So, still in need of some answers. But for the interim I've found a satisfactory alternative.

I forgot my password to login to Windows. I always use the number keypad password when logging on, but now the only option is the password, which I forgot. IMy Gateway won't boot from the CDdrive or a flassh drive. I have changed the boot order in BIOS, but it goes from the hard drive anyway.

My metro apps were minimizing after 10 seconds or so. I saw a post that it could be amtivirus related, so I downloaded tools to remove the ones I had used the past year. Malwarebytes' uninstaller clean up progrm told me it needed to reboot in safe mode. I let it do so.

I only can press DEL for BIOS setup or F12. I don't have a way to change it out of safe mode.

The Metro app issue could be from a recent Windows update.

You might be better off doing a clean install. You won't need to enter the key as its already been associated with your computer.

Backup any files you want to keep first.

I am not certain but it may take the install files from the recovery partition (perhaps someone can confirm this), I know this worked with a recent HP job I did.

We have IE Say a user goes to MSN com The ad on the right is a Flash object Some of our users will see that object flickering when scrolling up or down on the page or when hovering their mouse over it It's quite annoying Almost all users are running Adobe Flash Player but I think I've seen this happen on systems with Macromedia Flash Player as well Other systems don't have the problem I've seen this happen on one system and not another while both seemed to have the same Flash objects installed Uninstalling all Flash players using Adobe's prescribed Flash Player uninstall tool seems to work at first but users later complain again Note that they just about always end up installing Flash Player again because sites ask for it I don't believe I've seen Adobe Object 9.0.28.0) Flash V. Player (shockwave 9 Using Flash R28 Ie Flickering Flash - Objects - Activex 6 this on any XP systems at all including my own but most of our users have Ie 6 - Flash Objects Flickering - Using Adobe Flash Player 9 Activex R28 (shockwave Flash Object V. 9.0.28.0) Win K Does anybody know why this happens or how to permanently fix it Thanks Hotshot

A:Ie 6 - Flash Objects Flickering - Using Adobe Flash Player 9 Activex R28 (shockwave Flash Object V. 9.0.28.0)

More info: Adobe Flash Player 9, Macromedia Flash Player 8, and Macromedia Flash Player 10 all produce the same result--Flash objects that flicker when you put your mouse over any part of them. Moving Flash objects will flicker constantly while moving and stop flickering when the animation is done. SWF files (at least the one at www.stormwerks.com/linked/stuf/AYB2.swf) work without a problem when using Adobe Flash Player 9.

If I don't have Adobe Flash Player 9 installed, the Win2K machines prompt me to install them for almost any site that uses Flash (I guess most recent Flash objects cannot be viewed with the older Macromedia Flash Players).

Any suggestions?

I have had 3 people come to me with their mac laptops with the same question, can the cd drive be fixed because they have to hold it like 98% in to make it read, if they lock the drawer it won't go.... I'm not a Mac person, but 3 out of 3... that's no co-ink-E-dink!

Beastly little biggers, I replaced a screen in one once, ugh....

Thanks.

I've just upgraded from xp to 7 pro. I plug an Ativa flash drive in, it gets named G, but 7 thinks it's a CD drive. Not a major issue, as it still works fine, but puzzling and I haven't found a way to disabuse it of that notion. Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help.

A:W7 thinks flash drive is cd drive

I think XP and 7 use different File Formats. If possible try formating the USB drive under the 7 machine as an NTFS file system

My cousins flash drive is acting like a cd drive and I have no idea why or how to fix it. You can't do anything with it because it tells you to put in a disk, I tried formatting it and when I clicked format nothing happened. Does anyone know how to fix it or should he just throw it in the trash?

A:Usb flash drive acting like a cd drive

Have you tried to format it in Disk Management or just by right clicking in My Computer. If you haven't tried it would be worth it going into Disk Management and trying it there

Hello guys
I recently ran into a very weird windows 7 bit problem after installing it on my desktop. I cannot copy large files/ holders into usb flash drive or write large files to cd/ dvd. The copying/ moving process would stay on for about 5-10 seconds then freezes then I get an error message. That is:
H: refers to a location that is unavailable. it could be on a hard drive on this computer...
I have all the latest drivers.
And windows/ nero 9 can't use my dvd drive to burn files.
Some info about my system: AMD X4 630 CPU. MSI KA780G (AMD 780G chipset) mobo. I have 2 sata hdds, non raid mode. The DVD drive is IDE. 4gb ram ddr2 ram. windows 7 64 bit.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

You could go to your driver page on the MSI site - there is a Ati system driver that might help - have a look as there is others also that might need updating -
MSI Global ? Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more

You might have a look at this fix - I don t think its for your board, but Im unsure - post back, as this would be helpful to know.
You encounter problems when you move data over USB from a Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that has an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset and at least 4GB of RAM

Hello and a very happy new year to all!

I have a 8 GB USB Flash Drive which shows up as "Disk 1" in Disk Management but never comes "Online". I tried changing the drive letter and double-clicking in Explorer. But it says "Please insert a disk into Remove Disk (I". When I try to format, it says "There is no disk in drive I:. Please insert a disk and try again."

I tried HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool but it says "There is no media in the specified device."

What could be the problem here?

Thanks for reading this.

A:USB Flash Drive - Drive not online

It could be that the flash drive is defective. Test it in another computer.
It could be that the USB port is defective. Test the stick in another port, the ones in the back of the PC that are connected directly to the motherboard are best.

But that USB stick is recognized by the system because it is receiving power through the USB port, which is why Windows knows there is a device connected. But it can't tell what the device is, or find a file system on it.

Do those tests and let's see what what we find.

If you have the Nvidia chipset, there is a workaround, this is an older post I pulled from another forum, I suggest you make sure your system is fully patched using Windows Update, also install the latest drivers for your chipset, see if that fixes the issue before you try this workaround.

For those of you hitting issues with a hang or a failure to transfer data, please try the following...

From an elevated command prompt (right click on the command prompt shortcut, run as administrator):
1) Type "bcdedit /set truncatememory 0x80000000" (no quotes)
2) Reboot
3) Go to control panel -> System and Security -> view amount of RAM and processor speed.
- It should report 4GB (2GB available)
To undo this, open an elevated command prompt again:
1) Type "bcdedit /deletevalue truncatememory" (no quotes)
2) Reboot
3) Go to control panel -> System and Security -> view amount of RAM and processor speed.
- It should report 4GB
After enabling the "truncatememory" setting, please try a few file copies and see if you can make the problem reproduce.Click to expand...

Just created a USB Flash Recovery Drive using Dell's instructions.
The instructions state to Format the drive to NTFS before starting, which I did but, on checking the contents of the drive once it had been created, it said it was in FAT32 format. Is this correct please? I'm a bit puzzled.

A:Recovery Drive on a USB Flash Drive.

johnvictor,
Windows 10 has an inbuilt mechanism to create edition locked  Reinstallation Media. Its called a Recovery Drive. The Recovery Drive creates a FAT32 formatted USB that boots in both MBR Legacy BIOS and a UEFI BIOS with SecureBoot.
A quick check in Disk Management reveals that Windows 10 correctly formats the USB as FAT32 opposed to NTFS therefore the Recovery Drive works both in a UEFI BIOS with Secure Boot and a Legacy MBR BIOS. This will not give the same issues as Windows 8 and 8.1 installation media.

Hi I have a 32gb Flash Drive which I use in various music equipment to transfer files. It uses Fat32 as its file system as none of my other devices recognise NTFS. I recently bought an external hard drive 160GB and formatted it to FAT32 but none of the devices recognise it. Is there any way to get this harddrive to emulate a flash drive?

Thanks

Someone has a Dell GX620 box and when they put a thumb drive into the box it does not show up. You hear a little ding as if it is being recognized but nothing happens. I do not see any yellow marks in the device manager. When I took the same thumb drive and put it into another box it shows up. Any ideas what could be wrong with the box?

My computer was setup using 2 HDD and EasyBCD boot menu. That file seems to have become corrupt or damaged as I am getting a message; Reboot and Select Boot Drive or insert boot media in selected drive and press a key. I have followed Windows Repair Boot Drive instructions but to no avail. Both HDD have Windows 10 loaded. I ultimately want to eliminate the EasyBCD software and just revert back to 1 Windows 10 boot with the 2 HDD as storage. I see no advantage having Windows 10 loaded on dual HDDs.

Kyhi's rescue disc has a program called Macrium Reflect on it. Under the restore menu of Macrium Reflect is an utility to fix Windows startup problems. That utility has fixed many non-booting computers when other fixes have failed:

Is anyone willing to test this?

Zeatron Software

I've installed it and it claims to check drives for errors and fix them. States that the drive is locked during repairs then unlocks the drive without needing a reboot. It's very fast. What's the best way to check that it actually does what it claims to do?

Note: Adds a startup entry.

I'm looking to repair Windows XP on a few machines at the lab I manage, but the machines don't have a CD drive, so simply using the boot disk is out of the question. Is it possible to put the boot files on a USB flash drive? I've also thought about taking out the hard drives, installing them as slaves on other machines and formatting them. Would I be able to then insall Windows XP to the machines (added as a slave to another computer? )
Any advice would help a ton. I have limited resources as I'm here volunteering in Tonga (island nation in the South Pacific)....
Cheers!

A:Repair Windows XP without a CD Drive?

If you can copy the i386 folder from the XP CD onto the hard drive, then return the hard drive to it's original PC and you can boot that PC, with a Floppy or a USB stick, you can start the XP install by running the WINNT.EXE file in the i386 folder.
