Q: Dell XPS 13 9350: Shutting down completely when laptop lid is closed.

Hi i have an otherwise working laptop that seems to shutdown completely (closes browser, shuts off programs) when the lid merely closes. I updated everything I could fine on Dell's website but to no relief. What can I do to fix this issue?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Shutdown/ Sleep/ Hibernate is completely based on the video card drivers installed correctly and the Operating system on the system.
I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the video card driver from Dell website as these drivers are tested on the Dell system. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the video card.

Open the search box, Start typing devmgmt.msc and then press enter.
Select the Display adapters listed and right click on it.
Now select properties.
In the properties window, under Driver tab, click on Uninstall button.
Check “Delete the driver software for this device.”
You want to delete the driver click OK.

After the uninstall finishes restart the system. Then reinstall the Intel video card driver first and then NVidia/AMD card driver (If system is configured with discrete video card) on the system for issue resolution. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the video card drivers from Video section onto the system and install it.

When I close the laptop, often the computer does not sleep and I reach in my bag and the laptop is red hot.
Battery is almost always dead when I take the computer out.

This is very frustrating as I bought this item a few months ago.

Hello all,
My Dell XPS 13 9350 has been shutting down instead of sleeping (when lid closed or power button pressed) since the last update from the Dell Update app.
Prior to this, I was also getting the laptop going into flight mode when it went to sleep.
Any suggestions regarding each of the above issues?

Basically every time i search something on google and click a result, i get redirected to a page full of ads

Laptop doesn't sleep when lid is closed

I have a Dell laptop that always went to sleep reliably when I closed the lid. Now it does not. I am able to get the laptop to sleep with the Start --> Sleep option but not with the lid closing and not with the power button.

On the power options interface screen, in the section that says "Power Buttons and Lid" there is no way to set a lid action - there is no choice or link available. It's like someone completely removed the computer's knowledge that it has a lid - maybe it somehow got tricked into thinking it was a desktop?

A:Dell Laptop no longer sleeps when lid is closed

Now that I'm thinking about it, it may be in some "desktop" mode instead of a laptop mode. Here are other data points:
- It no longer shows the battery indicator in the lower right status bar
- The power options no longer show different options for when the system is "plugged in" vs "on battery power", it's just one setting.
- No more "lid" settings as I said above.

Hmmm - does anyone know how to check this or what a possible fix might be?

So I recently noticed that when I close the lid completely, the monitor doesn't turn off, I can still see light coming from the gap. I've done a fresh install of windows xp recently, but I didn't notice whether it was from the start, or did I do something to fault it.

I have a Dell inspiron 1520. Well worth noting here that when I choose standy when lid is closed it works, so that means the lever mechanism works. That's why I put this in the software section.

Don't know what else to add. Help would be appreciated. Thanks

I turned the computer on and it was fine. I hit FN+F8 to turn on CRT. Then I switched it back to the LCD. The screen turned on then shut off after a few seconds. This keeps happening, even when I close the lid and open it. Could the inverter be bad?

Hey I recently got a new Dell Laptop It s nearly a month old and I ve been having issues with the system randomly shutting down on me and automatically rebooting up again after its shut down Which I suppose is more like a restart Anyone have any idea why it s New laptop is for obvious shutting down no Dell reason? doing this up to a few times a day since my laptop is on for at least hours It could be overheating but it doesn t feel that hot at the time it restarts New Dell laptop is shutting down for no obvious reason? It sounds like a heat issue. heat will make a system shut down fast. Make sure you are running this on a hard surface; not on the carpet, on the bed, or other soft surfaces. Get a cooling pad and tell us if the issue persists. Check the vents to make sure there is no dust build-up.

I bought my Dell 1555 laptop around 14 months ago, and around 3 months ago I started having this problem. The laptop will shut down randomly without warning, like the power cable has been pulled out or something. It has never happened when the computer is idle, it only happens when using Java applications, and most recently when playing games, e.g Counter Strike: Source. I was told that this problem was due to overheating, so I have tried to clean out any dust that may be in the fan section with a can of air spray a couple of times, but still the laptop shuts down randomly. I have installed the latest BIOS, but that had no effect. Does anyone know of a fix? My warranty/guarantee has run out, so I want to try and hold and sending it in to Dell if possible. Any help is appreciated.

Ok I WAS WRONG, This random shutting down problem was due to the Video Thermal Sensor going off....
So in my earlier post I was talking about how everything worked fine when I was on battery but it would randomly turn off the moment I plug in my AC adapter.... Well this is the reason... 
When you plug in the AC adapter, power settings change, so to modify this--> Click the battery icon,then click on "more power options"--> Here you have your power plans --> Click "Change Plan settings" for which ever plan you are using now--> Then click "Change advanced power settings" --> Ok sooo in here, U'll see a lot of sub headings click on each of them, then make all the "plugged in:" settings equal to "Battery On:" settings(This worked for me) If you are having the shutting down problem even when you are on battery , try turning down all these options, You MUST TURN DOWN all areas connected with your Graphics Card(The name tags are pretty self-explanatory,You'll understand when you have a look at them) ... Leave the CPU stuff alone, unless it still doesn't work after you turn down the graphics part....
So why do all this? well you are effectively tuning down your laptop performance = in turn less processing is done in a given period of time = which means less heat is produced = Laptop want turn off at awkward times :) (i.e In the middle of a presentation, at the very moment you were going to submit that VERY important assignment Or when you have just written code 500 lines long on Matlab and everything crashes,and all the files associated with it gets corrupted  etc... incidentally, all these things did happen to me)... And why did this all start happening after 2 blissful years(In my case that is, might have being sooner for some of you out there)well the thermal glue on your graphics card wears off with time, hence it doesn't remove heat from the GPU as it used to... therefor your GPU will always run at a very high temperature, around 101C,in my case, when it's doing absolutely nothing!!![ I found this out when I ran Dell Diagnostics... If you guys are interested, check it out, it does a really thorough check, and lets you pin point which hardware part is malfunctioning]...Sooo , How does this relate to the AC adaptor, Well if u check in the power setting as I have said before, When you plug the AC adaptor,the laptop switches from GPU,Powersave mode to--> GPU Maximise performance mode, therefore the idle temperature goes up, so when you start using your laptop, like moving your mouse around or opening up a web browser, a tiny bit of your GPU will be used, which might make it a bit more hot and making it pass the max-temperature, effectively triggering the safety mechanism which turns off your computer...
This method may not work for you if the thermal glue is completely gone... In which case you may have to change it... Just to make sure that the, thermal glue/heat sink/clogged fan is the real problem run the Dell Diagnostics.. do the "extended version", it takes awhile, but it checks everything.
So did lowering my laptop performance help me? YES, 100%... I can't play any games on my laptop, but I can still browse the net,play some music,watch movies and use office + some of my engineering programs(Matlab etc)...This should get me through another 8-10 months, "Hopefully, fingers crossed :)"
So what does this say about DELL Laptops! They SUCK BIG TIME!!! I MAY HAVE BEING A FAN 2 years ago, BUT NOT NOW!... People, spend a bit more money and BUY APPLE!!!, I have couple of friends who's being using them for over 3 years, and they don't SLOW DOWN,OVER HEAT or Randomly TURN OFF!!!... My son's computer had virus issues, and wouldn't connect to the internet, uninstall unwanted programs, etc.  Went into safe mode and deleted temporary files and unwanted programs. Connected to internet and installed Malwarebytes. Ran scan and found several viruses that were quarantined.  Restarted and got a message saying the computer was logging off due to Dell Management Agent Services. This continues over and over.  How do I get rid of this doom loop? Thanks

If you can boot into safe mode with networking...then install and run the programs below.
 
Use CCleaner to remove Temporary files, program caches, cookies, logs, etc. Use the Default settings. No need to use the
Registry Cleaning Tool...risky. Pay close attention while installing and UNcheck offers of toolbars....especially Google.
After install, open CCleaner and run by clicking on the Run Cleaner button in the bottom right corner.
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download
 
Download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click on Scan button.
When the scan has finished click on Clean button.
Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.

How many other programs/browser tabs do you have open when you are playing these Facebook games? It seems possible that you are trying to get your laptop to do too much. From what I can see the Dell Studio 1558 laptop comes with 4GB of memory, which may sounds a lot, but once you are running a few programs and resource heavy programs (especially on the memory such as Facebook games), it can slow down your laptop, possibly creating the issues you have.

If you are only running your browser with one tab open, you may have a memory issue, so you may have to run a memory test/diagnostic, depending on your answer to the above.

I will say that it sounds like your laptop needs some general care and attention, when was the last time you run a disk defrag or disk cleanup? How do you normally use your laptop, does it sit on a flat side where air can circulate easy? We may need to run some extra repairs/checks to make sure everything is working correctly, the last thing you need is to do a system restore but then find that fails for some reason, disastrous.

I have just bought this Dell XPS 13 9350 within the past few months. One day the touchscreen started to constantly click on the screen, sometimes without stopping. The only way I am able to get this "ghost clicking" to stop is either restarting the laptop (hoping the problem doesn't persist)or, sometimes I get lucky by just pressing the touch screen on random spots and it seems to stop the clicking. Is this a hardware problem or can I somehow fix this problem other than messing with the hardware?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a dell xps 13. Can anyone tell me if I order the 8gb model with the i5 6200u FHD screen which comes with a 256gb SSD, can someone tell me what model of SSD this is? Is it a Samsung SM951 (uk model)? I understand it is PCIE based, but does the controller run in AHCI or NVME? I am thinking of putting a 950 pro in there (I understand these drives are nearly identical in terms of performance but I'd like to be able to use the Samsung magician software and turn on rapid mode and overprovisioning. has anyone used the samsung magician software with a 950 pro drive? is there any difference in real world performance between an ahci drive and a nvme drive under normal usage?

Hello, I highly doubt malware is involved here. However, I recommend completely uninstalling McAfee and see if that makes a difference.Dowload and save McAfee Removal Tool to your desktop. Run it to remove McAfee. After this, please restart your computer.

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on Dell XPS 9350. To be able to do that, I needed to install the usb 3.0 drivers (the laptop doesn't have any usb 2.0 ports and the usb 3.0 can't be change to usb 2.0 from the bios) into the Windows 7 installation on my usb stick.

The problem is that Windows can't identify the ssd. So I figured it was the motherboard chipset drivers that I needed to install, so that it could identify the nvme controller itself. The problem is that when I extract the driver, there are no .inf or .cab drivers. There are a lot of files without any extensions and basically the driver seems to be installable only on a functional installed operating system.

Any ideas how I could get a readable driver that I could browse to during the Windows 7 installer?

I don't see anything on the Dell downloads for this model for Win 7. They have Win 10 and Win 8.1 drivers. Even if you get Win 7 installed I doubt that all the devices on the laptop are going to work.

I've seen other try to install Win 7 on a new system that is not designed for Win 7 and of the ones I've seen none have been successful and give up and keep their original OS.

Best option, if you can return the Dell, is to buy one that has Win 7 or that you can backward install Win 7 on it (and all devices work).

I recently got a new Dell XPS 13. I like it very much but I have one single issue with it.
It gets hot when plugged in. I installed latest drivers and bios firmware but it's still annoying.
The main problem is that I searched for fan problems over net, I saw people are complaining about fan being too noisy on XPS 13 but I hear absolutely nothing from laptop. and now I'm wondering if it has a fan and it's working.
How do I know that the fan is working?

Hello,
After a lackluster week with TB15, I have a problem with my Dell 9350 (early 2016).
I noticed that the battery drained faster than it's supposed to be.

I've recently been looking into buying an eGPU Enclosure such as the AKiTiO Node or the Razer Core. I've updated all the firmware and now I am running Thunderbolt Software Version 16.1.47.275. The Node and Core both specify that the computer needs to both have Thunderbolt 3 (which I have) and be compatible with external graphics. What does this mean? I have Thunderbolt 3, so wouldn't it be theoretically possible to run external graphics provided the firmware was up to date?
So in summary, my main question is this: Will/can the Dell XPS 13 9350 be able to use eGPU enclosures over Thunderbolt 3 now (or in the future if there is firmware updates being planned)?

Hello, I am having trouble recently with my dell xps 13 9350. The computer starts up from OFF fine, however if I try to wake up the laptop after closing the lid or pressing the power button quickly (which in both cases causes the laptop to sleep) all i get is a blue screen with a loading wheel. The computer does not wake up and must be restarted by holding the power button for over 4 seconds. 
I have had this computer for two months and this is the first issue I've had with it. Hoping someone can help me resolve this issue. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I've bought a new monitor for my laptop dell xps 13. Now when I'm hearing sound from my monitor the sound stops working for 2 seconds and then it just goes normal. this happens often. I've already installed the latest drivers for my realtek high defenition. I also uninstalled the drivers and installed them back still nothing. Same thing for my Graphics Card. Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased a Manufacturer Refurbished Dell XPS 13 9350 (Skylake), and all has not been well.
The laptop constantly BSODs whenever I wake it from sleep. The thing is that it works without a hitch for
hours on end on a cold boot, but as soon as I wake it from sleep or hibernation, I receive a BSOD on wake 80~90% of the time, sometimes instantly and sometimes after 3-4 minutes of use.

I've already done a fresh install of Windows 10, ran memtest86 5 times with no errors returning and also manually
uninstalled/reinstalled all the latest drivers for my laptop and even ran Driver Sweeper in safe mode but the problem
persists. There were even more errors before, but after doing all my driver updates, WhoCrashed points me to ntkrnlmp.exe as the most frequent cause of BSODs.

I've attached the dump files to the thread, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I am busy finding my way with a new Dell XPS 13 (9350). Many of the programmes I have display very well, but sometimes they programmes that load are so small that you need a magnifying glass to navigate your way around the screen.
Microsoft Office, for example, has no issues,
but
When I load my Adobe Photoshop Elements, the display is so small that I can hardly see anything.

How do I go about setting up the display so that it is easily readable? The attached screenshots hopefully illustrate the problem I'm having.
Sometimes - even in my browser - one section of the browser will display legibly, but another section of the screen (possibly linked to a java application) will display incredibly small.

I have the same problem. Auto cad tool bars are unreadable. Google Earth has same issues and very large text for state names. The drag icon is very small. Maps program will not show roads when zoomed in. i have heard this is a windows 10 issue, but I don'r believe it. I have two desk tops running windows 10 and all works well.

Was really looking forward to this laptop, but received it late last week and the touchpad appears to be defective on arrival.  Lags and freezes intermittently and two finger scroll barely ever works.  Already called in to tech support and they advised the same given we tried for an hour to resolve.
Seems I received a lemon given that it has a great build and monitor, but researching this issue seems there are many threads and youtube posts with the same exact issues so this seems unfortunately common.  Will be returning it tomorrow (for a full refund) as I can't wait another few weeks for this machine and as I travel a lot I don't intend to use a mouse very often.  Even though I'm more than willing to pay for a decent notebook, it is frustrating it is so difficult to come by.

Just received the XPS 13 (9350) last week and I've been having some intermittent black screen flickering that normally occurs in short bursts of 4-5 short black outs within a span of two or three seconds. Tech support updated all the drivers and such, but I'm still experiencing the issues. Has anyone had similar issues and possible solutions?
I looked at previous posts and the screen flickering is not where it actually distorts things on screen, it literally just looks like it flashes on and off. Any help is appreciated!

I have had a XPS XPS Dell audio problem 13 9350 and love it except one thing When i Dell XPS 13 9350 audio problem plug in headphones to the laptop I get really bad static on the audio that only goes away when I mute this condition does Dell XPS 13 9350 audio problem not happen with the built in speakers I have tried to update drivers and all Dell XPS 13 9350 audio problem of that and every time i update to the new realtek drivers or any realtek drivers for that matter my laptop will freeze when booting into windows It freezes as soon as I try to use the notification center or start menu and I have to restart and then role back the audio driver to the stock high definition windows driver to get things to work For the short time I get teh realtek driver to work the audio on both the headphones and speakers is fine but the computer locks up and I am forced to role back the driver to the High definition windows driver which causes the headphone static to come back I have had this problem from the beginning but have forgot about it since I really don t use headphones with it much but I forsee me using them more I have even considered buynig a AudioQuest Dragonfly Dac in order to bypass the stock headphone jack to keep this from happening nbsp

Hello. Did the laptop come with Win10 pre-installed at the factory? If so it would have had a working Realtek audio driver in it when you took it out of the box. You can return it to that state by performing a system recovery -- return to the original factory configuration.
If you installed Win10, you might consider returning to the operating system in which the audio worked properly. There are a lot of audio problems with Win10.
harleyguy07I have even considered buynig a AudioQuest Dragonfly Dac in order to bypass the stock headphone jack to keep this from happening. 
You can get a usb audio jack from Amazon for about 5 bucks or so.

Hi I have a new Dell XPS only a few months - XPS 13 not Microphone Dell 9350 working old I noticed that the Microphone is not working in any applications nbsp I try nbsp I have gone through the Dell diagnostic as well as the Windows diagnostics but nothing seems to fix the issue I am running the latest drivers from the Dell Dell XPS 13 9350 - Microphone not working support web site nbsp nbsp I have tried to remove the Realtek drivers and go with the native Windows HD nbsp Audio Drivers nbsp nbsp This did appear to fix the issue but then I updated the BIOS to and now it doesn t work again nbsp Not sure if the BIOS update broke it or it was just a coincidence and it would have failed after a reboot anyway nbsp I may attempt to role back the bios and see what happens I don t believe it is a hardware issue as I have seen the mic working fine with the Windows drivers Has anyone else seen this problem or have a solution The problem is I don t know if the MIc was working from the beginning nbsp The day I got the laptop I update the drivers from the website right away nbsp I work in IT and always like to have the latest drivers nbsp

When the laptop is charging and being used, its temperature goes up higher than when not charging around 15 Celsius. I have tried monitoring the temperature during charging while playing games, the laptop is overheating and it went up to 94 Celsius then I tried to plug a laptop power adapter out, it went down to around 83 Celsius. It would always be like this. Another problem is the power adapter gets very hot during charging even in sleeping mode or playing games. I can't touch it!. Moreover, my screen is flicker sometimes while I'm playing games and displays that "display driver stop responding and has recovered"
My drivers are up to date. BIOS: 1.3.3

Download and reinstall the video drivers from the support site - http://dell.to/1UiTOks
If you still encounter the video driver crashes, then restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. If there are no errors, then restart the system and within windows - run a stress test on the system - http://dell.to/21y9GPi
Restart the system and press f2 to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS.
Test the system with another adapter if possible. For the screen flickering issue, after updates and tests, if the issue still persists, then connect an external monitor and check for flickering on the LCD and the external monitor - this will help isolate if the source of the issue.

I have noticed that whenever the (non-touch) screen on my Dell XPS 13 9350 refreshes (e.g. with the mouse pointer moving, webpage scrolling, etc.) I hear a buzzing sound from the bottom left of the display.
Uninstalling the Intel display driver and using the Microsoft Windows generic display driver stops this buzzing from occurring, but that also stops the screen brightness hotkeys from working so it's not really a solution.
Does anyone know how to resolve?

My Dell XPS 13 was working fine for about 9 months. Recently, I have to go through a lot of trouble just to get it charging. When I plug in the adapter, the light on the end of the plug turns on, but to get the charge to work, I have to push the cord extremely hard into the laptop. Even when I do this, the laptop usually only stays charging for about 5 seconds. After about 20 tries, I got it to stay charging. The warranty is still (thankfully) active, so worst case, I can just get it replaced. But before that, what can I do to try to fix it?

Hi all A pretty nasty situation given that this is supposedly a quot premium quot laptop I have here a one day old XPS MS signature edition from Amazon bought new Core i GB RAM GB storage current BIOS and drivers updated right away windows Everything looked fine until I disabled power-saving features of the graphics panel self-refresh and power saving mode for games and then tried to reboot while on battery it gets stuck right on the Dell logo Sometimes the rotating Windows thingy appears but then freezes immediately Holding the power button and then cold-starting works Rebooting does (9350) 13 logo Dell XPS on stuck not Loading BIOS defaults helped reboot once after which I decided to re-enable the power-saving stuff thinking that it XPS 13 (9350) stuck on Dell logo is what caused it The reboot after that did not take place either -- nbsp got stuck again I don t know if there s any relationship between these power saving features and what s happening could be a coincidence The problem does not seem to occur while on AC power nbsp Any thoughts As I said before this is an Amazon purchase so I can return exchange it within days Thanks

Kind of an info post amp a question My new Dell XPS touchscreen started to intermittently fail amp within a day or it completely fault touchscreen 9350 XPS Dell 13 gave up I Dell XPS 13 9350 touchscreen fault also noticed that there was no touchscreen device in Device Manager under HID section nor any mystery USB devices there an Internet search Dell XPS 13 9350 touchscreen fault reckoned it could be a power problem I did notice though that under USB Devices section there was a mystery device that said quot Unknown USB Device Device Descriptor Request Failed Called Dell Support who informed me that since it was purchased from a UK retailer I wasn t eligible for Dell support So I called PC World They took me through a step which I d already tried uninstall amp reinstall mystery USB devcie but this time it worked - touchscreen appeared in HID section amp mystery USB device vanished Hung up the phone moved laptop then the touchscreen failed again This time on loading Device Manager it was unusable Device Manager kept refreshing over amp over again but I did have time to see that again touchscreen had vanished from HID amp the mystery USB with same message appeared in USB Devices This time though the USB device would vanish amp then the screen refresh nbsp A bit more Google searching revealed that a touchscreen is effectively a mini USB device amp I wondered if the issue I was having was due to an intermittent connection It would explain the constant refreshing of Device Manager since it was like something being connected amp disconnected constantly A final recovery to factory settings amp problem still persisted so I concluded it was a hardware issue As it was only weeks old I was offered a refund since no more stock amp I m now awaiting delivery of the new XPS from Dell I m a bit concerned that this happened amp curious if this is a common feature of touchscreens amp if it was to happen again to my new model is there an easy fix once out of warranty Hope the above helps somebody with a similar problem

Rather unfortunate you had to face issues with a new system.
Even if the system was purchased from PC World, if the order was shipped with Dell warranty, then it does hold good with Dell to get a service call on the system. 
Regarding the LCD issue - I suppose it might have been a loose LCD cable issue that was causing the intermittent touchscreen functionality and even more that it would work / stop working when the LCD is moved.
Reseating / replacing the LCD cable (unless part of the assembly in certain models) should ideally resolve such issues. 
Hope the 9360 model brings you good experience.

I just bought a Dell XPS 13 9350 QHD. I am trying to disable Adaptive brightness with this patch i downloaded from dell website APP_QHDFW_DBC_W81X64_W10X64_A00_Setup-PWD5K_ZPE
However after I unzip and run the exe file there is no reaction.

Is that a driver update you are downloading? That will not change any settings for your GPU.
Follow the steps below to turn off adaptive brightness:
1) Go to your power settings by left-clicking the battery symbol at the bottom right of your desktop
2) click power and sleep settings
3) click additional power settings then click "change plan settings" next to the power profile you are using
4) then, click "change advanced power settings"
5) Scroll down to Display (click the plus icon) --> Enable adaptive brightness --> then turn it off using the pull down menus.

I purchased a new dell XPS from BestBuy August and have several sound problems nbsp First all Static XPS - 13 from Dell noise 9350 sound stopped working about a month after purchasing the laptop but using the Dell com support site I discovered that Intel drivers had been disabled Once I reinstalled the drivers the audio began working again but another issue has continued A periodic static noise nbsp The laptop periodically emits a static noise anytime you press a key When the noise starts it happens anytime you press a key regardless of what program is running and thus far there is no apparent trigger that causes it to start emitting the static noise Twice I ve run the diagnostic quot Full Test quot on the dell com support site but the test does not find any problems Considering the price of this laptop I am surprised and even more shocked to see that other people are also having issues with static sounds nbsp I purchased an HP laptop last year for half the price of this laptop and have not had a single issues with that computer nbsp nbsp

I was thinking of installing Comodo Firewall this AM, and I started the installation. I turned off PF to avoid the pop ups and then went on the internet to find setup recommendations for CF. That's when I noticed that I could not connect to some sites in a multi-tab Firefox session. The connection attempt would time out. Some sites that would not connect were Outlook.com and YouTube. I could access Major Geeks and MalwareTips and other bulletin board sites. I checked, and Windows Firewall was on, so is this a Windows Firewall issue?

New XPS been using it for about a month Except the Thunderbolt connecting to a K display issue sorted out with keeping the lappy in airplane mode Dell Blank XPS 9350 screen issue and having internet access though USB -LAN cable everything seemed very good Until yesterday when on an important meeting the screen while working on battery power the screen went blank Tried to reset with holding the power button down for about sec The button LED and the keyboard lights cycled but the screen remained blank no DELL logo on boot as well I connected the power adapter the screen came on Few moments later it went black again Cycled the power no response from the screen this time I did a quick browse for solution and found a guy claiming that disabling C-State in the BIOS has fixed similar issue The problem is that this time no matter how many times I reset though the power button the screen remains blank Eventually after min the screen appeared and I managed to get the BIOS changed disabled C-State The rest of the day the XPS was working fine and I tough the issue is gone Until this morning when I opened the lid and the screen was black again So back to square After few minutes fighting with the power button and connecting the power adapter the screen is on again Obviously this is not sustainable as I won t know whether on my next meeting the lappy won t let me down again I m slowly getting fed up by this Dell product and although I really like it issues like this are just not acceptable I would like to hear your suggestions if possible how to sort that out

I very recently purchased a xps I unboxed it last night and out of box nbsp I noticed that it would make a buzzing noise seemingly randomly So I will list all the symptoms here and the troubleshooting I have done and maybe perhaps someone with more electrical knowledge than myself will be able to help Symptoms As I said there is an electrical buzzing noise coming from the top left part of the chassis it is most audible near the escape key but it is in that general area Escape key the key the R key and around the tab key If I were to describe the noise I would say it sounds like an electrical buzz similar to when something is shorting out or an buzzing 9350 Electrical 13 XPS noise Dell -- arc is made I would also say it is very similar to coil whine or the noise a mechanical hard drive Dell XPS 13 9350 -- Electrical buzzing noise makes when the read write heads are moving It is also vaguely similar to the noise Dell XPS 13 9350 -- Electrical buzzing noise a cicada makes The noise also seems to happen randomly sometimes it is present and sometimes it is not The same is to be said for its intensity sometimes the noise is VERY audible can be heard no matter where you are in Dell XPS 13 9350 -- Electrical buzzing noise the room or sometimes it is very quiet and can only be heard if you but your ear right next to the places I listed earlier Furthermore the noise seems to intensify when there is a lot of movement on the screen If I scroll up and down quickly on a page the noise will become more present and get louder In fact as I type this it seems to act up randomly when I press keys or it will occur even when I am not touching the laptop Troubleshooting Now since I discovered this problem last night I have read probably every thread I can find using google on xps buzzing issues so I am going to get some things out of the way early This laptop does not have an optical drive My model has a nvme SSD which has no moving parts and would not be making noise I doubt it is related to the electrical of the SSD as it is located more towards the center of the chassis I highly doubt it is the fan considering the location of the noise as well as how it sounds The noise of the fan is very distinguishable and different I can hear the fan the same time the buzzing is happening and they are very different sounds It is not my AC power adapter as the noise occurs regardless of the laptop being plugged in or not People in other forums have suggested that it is related to the Intel display drivers I have tried disabling the drivers and the noise is present regardless no change Other people have suggested changing some power saving settings in the integrated graphics control panel the noise is present regardless of what those settings are set to Other forums have also suggested that brightness settings have a role to play no matter what my brightness is set to the noise does not change This is a VERY long post but I want to be as detailed as possible for the people who might be able to help me with this issue and for anyone else who might find this post later on ANY help is greatly appreciated and I will keep a close eye on this forum to reply back as quickly as possible Also this video is not mine but the sound is VERY similar to the noise my laptop is making hopefully this will help as well www youtube com watch

I've had an 10.2 Mb update waiting since I bought my XPS 13 9350 about 8 months ago. I've tried to install the update dozens of times but it just doesn't work. Is here anyone else who has had the same problem?

Which update? Updates have KB numbers or titles. Uncheck "Give me other updates..." in Update Settings, Advanced Options.

Hey guys, I got a new Dell XPS 13 9350, did a clean install of windows 10 pro. windows update installed all drivers for me. Computer is working well, but the boot time is on the slow side. It takes about 23 seconds to get to windows login screen from clicking the power button.
After clicking the power button the screen remains black for about 8-9 seconds, then the DELL logo shows up. After which is starts loading windows. I've seen some videos like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XjdXy0yORU There it boots up insanely fast. It will show the Dell logo after only a second or 2.
I've updated my BIOS to the latest version. Fast Boot in bios is set to "minimum", so it loads the least amount of checks. What could be causing the long wait before showing the Dell logo?

Step 2 – If you are given the all-clear by your anti-virus software of choice, its worth having a look through the Windows Task Manager.
Step 3 - The Windows key and R as soon as your desktop appears.Type in services.msc in the Run box and hit the Enter key.f one of the processes is dragging its feet, simply Right-Click the item, Open them and then change their Settings from Default – to Delayed Start. Then save and reboot the system.

I have just installed a clean UEFI Windows 10 on my almost brand-new XPS 13 the touchscreen does not seem to work at all.
I have gone to the support website to auto-detect and download drivers. Went through Dell's diagnostic tool for touch screen, which said it could not detect any touchscreen device. There are no unknown/driverless devices in my Device Manager.
After scouring through many forum posts, I am baffled. Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated!

So I just recently noticed this problem. Every time I startup my system, that's when it occurs. It seems that I'm not the only one experiencing this issue since I've researched the issue and others are experiencing a similar situation. I tried playing some audio, but speakers seem to be fine. 
Anyone know a resolution?

*Which is the operating system installed on the system and have you tried using a headphones to hear if the same issue is seen during system startup.

I would suggest you to update BIOS, uninstall and reinstall the video card driver and audio from Dell website as these drivers are tested on the Dell system. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the video card.

Open the  search box, Start typing devmgmt.msc and then press enter.
Select the Display adapters listed and right click on it.
Now select properties.
In the properties window, under Driver tab, click on Uninstall button.
Check “Delete the driver software for this device.”
Do the same for Audio also which you will find under 'Sound, video and game controllers'
You want to delete the driver click OK.

After the uninstall finishes restart the system. Then reinstall the Intel video card driver first and then Nvidia/AMD card driver (If system is configured with discrete video card) on the system for issue resolution. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the BIOS from BIOS section, video card drivers from Video section onto the system and install it.

Seen a few people seem to have almost similar problems. Rather than the whole screen flickering though, it is just the lower third of the screen and its flickering aswell as not updating - i.e. totally useless.
Tried updating the drivers, restoring to before the last system update and no change. Seems like it is not a screen hardware thing since it will briefly stop if I tax the system more.
Any fixes or will I be returning it?

I recently bought a Dell XPS 13 9350 because i wanted a small form laptop to use on my lap while sitting in my couch. It sits perfect however gets too warm at the bottom so on my legs. I'm thinking about returning it. Really disappointed. I really wish Dell had placed airholes on the side or also used carbon fiber at the bottom to keep it cool.
Are there any good chill mats for this device too hold it stable on my lap that aren't too bulky. I found the vid below about the Targus 15" chill mat but won't my 13" slide off while typing? Any better solutions? They mats all seem to give an angle but i don't need an angle. The angle i have it on my lap right now is just fine. I just need a cool surface that holds it in place when typing.

Hello everybody,
I have an external USB 3.1 enclosure (Vantec Nexstar USB 3.1, model # NST-270A31-BK) that I am connecting to the USB-C (Thunderbird 3) port of my XPS 13 9350 laptop.  The drive does not start even after using two different USB 3.1 cables.  I have installed all the USB and Thunderbird drivers from Dell's website and activated the port in BIOS, but still have no luck getting the drive to run.
Thing is, when I plug the drive into one of the standard USB ports using a USB 3.0 cable, the drive boots up and is recognised by the laptop with no problem.  So if my troubleshooting was done correctly, the USB enclosure and cabling is not faulty, so the problem must lie with the USB-C port.  Has anybody successfully used the USB-C port to access external storage with any luck?

I am using XPS 13 9350. I have a Kingston Duo Flash Drive which has both USB C and USB 3.0 connectors. When I first bought the notebook, it was able to detect the flash drive, however transfer was very slow. After a series of driver updates, it can no longer detect the drive. However, the drive works when I use the USB 3.0 connector to plug it in the USB 3.0 drive. So I suspect it is the USB C port of my computer which is not working.
I have restored the computer to factory image and redownloaded the drivers, no luck getting it to work. Right now I am intending to send the laptop to Dell to check out.
Do you have any luck making the USB C port work?

i've got a brand new dell xps 13 9350 (2016 model) and i reainstalled clean windows 10 pro on it. All drivers are good and i've got this weird problem.
When AC is plugged in, everything works perfectly, no weird sounds. However as soon as i plug out the power, there is that buzzing sound when i scroll or do some acitons. I changed all three power plans (balanced, saver, performance), it's still the same, and i turned off c-states and intel speedstep in BIOS, still the same.
What could cause this issue, any option/driver? I really think it has something to do with the software, because when on AC it doesn't happen.
Any help would be appreaciated.

Hi, I bought Dell xps 13 9350 two weeks ago from Microsoft store. I read that I am not the only one who is having this issue.
I have no option going to dell tech support, because I live in Kyrgyzstan. Laptop was delivered to me from California by relatives.

When does the static occur? What application are you using when the static occurs?  Is this issue while playing audio or video or both on the machine? Does this happen on both online and offline files - files from your HDD? Do the headphones work fine?

Does Dell offer a factory restore option with just the Dell drivers installed and no extras? HP offers this with their factory restore option. Hoping Dell offers it as well? If not. Doing a clean install of just Windows 10 seems a bit tricky? Dell lists a ton of drivers to install.

Finally. I bought a 16GB usb flash drive and made a backup of the factory recovery partition. I suppose it is now safe to remove and give me some extra space? The laptop was ordered with a 256GB ssd. Currently have 199GB of space left.

Now that the latest anniversary update has hit from MS. Will Dell be providing updated system images for current customers? It is not feasible for what ever reason if we have to reload Windows 10 from the factory image currently installed. Then turn around and go through windows update for this all new anniversary updated version. Just purchased this laptop 2-3 months ago.

I installed Ubuntu 16.04 on my XPS 13 9350.  It does have the Broadcom wifi/bt adapter.
My wifi issue is the computer will not connect to my 5GHZ network. Every time I try it just fails to connect and asks me for the password even though it's correct.  I can connect to my 2.4ghz but not the 5ghz

My BT issue is I have always have to repair my BT mouse when the computer restarts.
I previously had a 9343 and I had no issues like this.  I was able to connect to my 5ghz network and using Bluetooth manager as a trusted device my mouse always reconnected at a reboot.  
I know there are some issues with Broadcom adapters but my 9343 had one and I did not have this issue at all.  Is it just because the 9350 has a newer broadcom chip so it's not fully supported?

The 9550 and 9350 are still stuck on firmware that is 2 major releases behind (NVM16).
The newly released XPS 13 9360 has the latest firmware (NVM18).
All three machines have the exact same Thunderbolt 3 Controller (1575).
When will Dell update our machines with the latest firmware? We've been through absolute *** trying to use the TB15 and other TB3 items. A software update could greatly increase stability for us.

This happens randomly.  I can't seem to reproduce it on call.  Basically I close the lid to put it to sleep but the computer doesn't go to sleep. Airplane mode just turns on but the laptop stays on.

Please update the BIOS and video drivers, also check the advanced power option settings ensure nothing is hindering the sleep mode from working. 
Also do let us know what windows the system is running on, do PM us the system tag# by clicking on my name in blue and select send a private message .
Meanwhile you can go through the below steps to check more on the issue
Open the Start menu and then enter cmd into the search box. Hit enter and the command prompt window should open for you. If not, click it in the search result list.
Note: it is possible that you will need administrative privileges to complete the next part successfully. If you are having trouble, you can attempt to run cmd as Administrator. To do this, search for cmd again, and then right-click it and select Run as administrator.
Now that you have the command prompt window open, enter the following at the command prompt: 

powercfg -requests
There is a space after powercfg
Hit enter . 
If any process or device is preventing your system from going into sleep mode, information about it will be displayed here. The program will attempt to give you precise information on the disturbance
Though we can always rely  on this method, but good to give it a try.

Is there any way to lower the threshold temp for when the fan comes on? I've downloaded Dell Power Command and set it to "cool" - but it does not change the fan.
Are all 9350's set this way? Is there any way to change it? I'd much prefer if the fan kicked on when it hit 60.
(I have the most recent BIOS.)

Hi everyone,
I bought a Dell XPS 13 2016 (9350) FHD, i5, 8GB, 256GB and two weeks ago i received it. It has a great hardware but software is not very optimized and I have a frustrating issue with the display: it flickers everytime i turn the Bluetooth on and stays on. I cannot figure why but I really hope it's a software issue because is very sporadic, at the moment it never happened today, I really don't know what to do.

Hi This is my second post regarding my XPS in one week as it seems to be having lot of issues I was previously facing issue with sleep mode it wasnt going to sleep at all But after updating BIOS to it sort of recovered from that problem Now yesterday night I closed the lid with battery life expecting it to go to sleep issue drainage 9350 bug and battery 13 !!! Dell severe XPS Set to go to sleep when lid off In morning when I reached the bag I felt like the laptop was literally burning It was so hot to touch and the led light in front was giving orange yellow in color When I opened the lid the lock screen appeared which shouldnt be the case as it should have been in hibernation which indicates the machine was not off at all The battery life was indicating From to that too when was put to be off This are some serious concerns for a premium product like XPS I am expecting a proper solution to this malfunction issue of the product nbsp

UPDATE : Ok , now the battery life has dropped down to 4 Hours 30 Minutes !! Also the device is really heating up while using, I can feel the heat at the edge of the display and keyboard. The bottom part is even more heated !  Please give a solution to this !

I have a Dell XPS 13 (9350) connected to an external Dell U3415W display via the Dell USB Type-C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB adapter (470-ABQN) using an HDMI cable.
When I power on the laptop and let it boot with the laptop lid open, all is fine. Both the external display and the laptop screen show the desktop.
However, when I immediately close the laptop lid after pressing the Power button, it also boots up OK with the external display showing the login screen, but the laptop front LED starts flashing 7x white, 2x amber (and repeats that pattern). That seems like an error code to me.
The Dell tech support line seems to have NO information on this LED flashing behavior. The otherwise helpful tech support girl tried her best telling me about battery charging and discharging status, but that's not what this is. 
Does anyone have any information on front LED error codes? Thx!

I am assuming you heard about all of this directly from the phone technician.  I checked to see if there was further diagnostic indicators and I didn't find any listed anywhere.

There where a number of diagnostic beep codes for the notebook

Possible system board failure - Chipset error

Did you notice any beep codes when this happens or only the LED flashing?

I don't think that there is anything wrong with the system but I will be shooting you a friend request incase something further happens.

Hi. I have a new Dell XPS 13 9350. When I connect external monitors via the Dell Adaptor (VGA connection), the monitors remain blank. The adaptor seems to be working, well at least the USB output is. I know that the monitors and VGA cable are working fine. I've updated the Video Drivers and the BIOS.
Any ideas?

Does yours work if you completely power down the unit, then attach all cables and turn monitor on. Then turn on your laptop? This works for me but is very annoying to have to power down and up just to connect. Wonder if anyone has a solution that works for us both...

Hi all, after a lot of troubles and lookung for more solutions here some findings:
- Gfx performance - install GfX drivers from 14th April and it will perform as it should (also avail through Msft Win10 Update)
- flicker in screen - install GfX drivers from 14th April and it will perform as it should (also avail through Msft Win10 Update) & latest TB drivers
- coil whines - no solution found yet
- battery live - is the worst. I get 3-4h doing only eMail with 25-50% screen brighness. I ran some check tools and noticed that I have a constant voltage in the GPU (0,7V) which should actually go back down to 0 (at least all other 6th gen devices I have do that)
- fan is always spinning (balanced power setting) when plugged while only doing eMail (no streaming of music or similar)
- standby power issue - so solution found yet

Sad that you have to do this amount of beta testing on a very expensive laptop.  Unfortunately, as  business purchaser of many laptops for my company, I cannot spend this amount of time to figure out whey a brand new laptop, 10 minutes out of the box is flickering and crashing to a black screen multiple times.
Not only am I not going to make a third mistake by ordering a replacement, I'm looking at other vendors.

When I connect my Dell XPS laptop with QHD display to an external monitor through the DA USB-C to HDMI connector the external monitors on - monitor XPS 9350 flicker 13 Dell display external QHD Screen flicker constantly laptop is fine-no flickering Sometimes it Screen flicker on external monitor - Dell XPS 13 9350 QHD display works for like an hour then starts to flicker or longer so its not consistent Below are the troubleshooting steps Dell has walked me through including sending me a new DA part to no avail - Dell has sent me a new DA USB C to HDMI part - They have upgraded the Thunderbolt drivers and all other relevant drivers to latest ones as of June - I have tried on different monitors - and tried different HDMI cables Dell doesnt seem to know what to do now THey have refunded my DA part purchase and told me to buy a separate HDMI to USB-C cable to test If that fails it seems they will replace the motherboard They say it could be an issue with the external monitors not being compatible with QHD but this is not documented anywhere they admit and I havent heard anyone else having this problem on the internet and surprised every single person using this setup has QHD external monitors This is an unworkable situation for me as I work in PC labs all day connected to external monitors Any advice nbsp

Hello All,

My XPS 13 9350 has been BSODing again after a few months of relative stability.

I've ran memtest86, 20 runs without errors, chkdsk, sfc/scannow, and DISM scanhealth all returning without errors or integrity violations. I've also used Whocrashed to analyze the dump files, but it cannot tell me which drivers are bad or have gone wrong.The only common factor is that the errors are consistently associated to ntoskrnl.sys and ndis.sys (also ntkrnlmp sometime before).

Also to note, the most recent dump was a driver verifier BSOD if that helps.

I have attached the dump files to the thread, and would appreciate your assistance again.

Dear all Wonder monitor working XPS13-9350 Dell not via USB-C in when external plugged if you can help me solve a problem I have just received an XPS - from the Outlet last week It was certified refurbished I ve tried to connect a VGA monitor to it via a USB-C Dell XPS13-9350 external monitor not working when plugged in via USB-C to HDMI then HDMI to VGA cable The HDMI to VGA cable works perfectly on my Inspiron The setup also works if I full power down the XPS attach USB-C to HDMI to VGA to monitor and then boot up The external monitor then works almost perfectly with the exception of Netflix s video player which makes it flicker blue - Youtube and local video are completely fine What I cannot do is plug in this monitor whilst the XPS is on already - which is inconvenient as I move on and off desk a lot and powering down the computer every time is unhelpful Oddly the monitor will also not be recognised if I simply Restart from Windows I have to fully power down and plug everything in before switching the computer on again I have updated BIOS video card and Thunderbolt drivers since and none of these has solved the problem My system info is DELL XPS - Windows Core i - U Intel Iris graphics GB RAM GB SSD

Hi,
I have a new XPS 13 (Service tag 64K2KC2 ePSA Build 4304.07) that I have only had since the 16th of this month.
All has been fine until a couple of hours ago. A Dell message popped on the lower right hand corner to of the screen to tell me there was a Dell bios update. I selected to install the bios update and now the laptop will not boot.
I get the Dell logo and then a plain blue screen. 
Any ideas how to recover the system?

I bought a Dell XPS 13 9350 in December and I wanted to connect it to an external monitor via the thunderbolt port. I bought an type c to hdmi adapter off amazon and it connects. (Actually bought 2 and the problem persists). But occasionally both my screen and laptop will turn black then back on again. This causes my video that i'm playing to either freeze/crash (netflix/youtube) which is SUPER annoying. It goes from occasional to quite often. It's really random.

My drivers are up to date, cable is new and the monitor is new from boxing day. 

Any help is appreciated :)

I have removed the original Win and reinstalled from scratch Win Pro on my Dell xps I have downloaded all the possible drivers from the official quot Dell driver download quot page and run them all in the order suggested Also the BIOS is updated However there are still several devices not recognized There is no Win driver for the trackpad The one of Win is not compatible with Win so the trackpad is currently recognized Dell 9350 8.1, other and not working trackpad downgrade xps 13 windows issues. in the device manager as PS -compatible Moral the scroll function does NOT Dell xps 13 9350 downgrade windows 8.1, trackpad not working and other issues. work Under quot other devices quot I get two quot PCI data acquisition and signal processing controller quot icons and one quot unknown device quot flagging quot there are no compatible drivers for this device quot After installing the latest drivers February updates -not sure which one in particular created the problem I Dell xps 13 9350 downgrade windows 8.1, trackpad not working and other issues. now get also under quot IDE ATA ATAPI controllers quot and icon with quot Standard SATA AHCI Controller quot flagging quot this device cannot start Code quot While I can live with and the issue with the trackpad is VERY annoying and it would be great if Dell would provide a driver for it btw this model is now more than months on the market PS the February update seems has fixed part of the problems with the WiFi and with mouse I could solve them temporarily in January by installing other drivers of another model Dell xps in particular these two Communications Driver G X WN A exe Input Driver Y Y K WN A exe

Hope this helps for items 1 and 2, not sure about item 3...
For item 1, have you tried using the Windows 7 touchpad driver?  Download link below.  When you run the downloaded Dell Update Package, choose Extract (not Install), and create a folder to extract the files.  Then right click Setup.exe, choose Properties, then click the Compatibility tab, and then check the Compatibility box and choose Windows 7.  This should allow the driver to install successfully.
For item 2, you'll need to install the Serial I/O driver, which isn't listed for Windows 8.1, but you can find it in the Dell Driver Pack for Windows 8.1, link below also.  You'll need something like 7zip to extract the CAB file, but you'll find the driver buried in there.  Once you have the driver pack extracted to a folder, you can go into Device Manager, then right click the PCI Data Acquisition device, then choose Update Driver. Then choose Browse, and point it to the extracted folder and make sure include subfolders is checked.  The driver should then install.

HI EVERYONE! ive got this problem!..when i reboot the audio doesnt work , and same for the video  ..seems like i miss some driver but is not!
i've tried several times to remove and reinstall the video and audio driver ..without any success,, 
Any one is experiencing the same issue ??

I first noticed this happening with winamp and utorrent.. I press the close button and the program 'closes'... but if i look in task manager the process is still running, still taking up resources.. And it's not just the programs- although those two are the main culprits and do it every single time other programs occsssionally do the same thing... Is this a software issue or a win 7 issue?

With an unexplained change, start with a full antivirus scan. Download and run malwarebytes, full scan after update

If you are clean, I will give you a clean boot to help diagnose.

I have been setting up a laptop that my brother bought. It is an Acer Aspire 3623 that we got cheap at a local computer store, with no OS. He set it up, and among a few other problems, the laptop would not completely shut down. The LED under the power button would remain lit about half the time it was shut down. I tried reinstalling windows and the correct drivers, but the problem still remained. Any things to try? I wondered if some of the BIOS options might help, but there aren't many things I can change. Any suggestions?

 On this morning, I started the PC, I saw on scree
"Boot Guard verified DXE that is fail.Press any button to shut down"
And then shut down, not woking Power off.
Can you understand what the problem is, and suggest a solution?

I have exactly the same issue. Can you please advice me. I have the latest xps 13 9350 with qhd screen. Laptop's screen works just fine, but the external screen looks very ugly. Basically the same problem as described by the topic starter.

I have a Dell XPS model released Fall with the matte p display non-touch nbsp It has the new USB-C Thunderbolt port to connect to external monitors nbsp It requires an adapter to connect the USB-C port to HDMI inputs on external monitors I have purchased two different USB-C to HDMI adapters and have tried connecting both to my relatively new LG LA p HDTV on improper via Dell / XPS display colors external contrast 13 9350 HDMI as well as an older p computer monitor both with HDMI inputs nbsp Regardless of which adapter or external display I use the colors come out washed out with very poor contrast when I Dell XPS 13 9350 improper contrast / colors via HDMI on external display export to the displays nbsp Regular greens and blues become neon the whites are so bright they wash out all detail browns are a light yellow etc nbsp In general the contrast and colors are so off that the external displays are pretty much unusable I have used both of these monitors as external displays for several other laptops with no problems nbsp I never have to adjust Dell XPS 13 9350 improper contrast / colors via HDMI on external display the monitors rsquo settings or the computers rsquo settings Dell XPS 13 9350 improper contrast / colors via HDMI on external display nbsp With the Dell I have tried every imaginable adjustment on the monitors nbsp I have also used Windows rsquo s color calibration tool nbsp I have also played around with the display driver rsquo s settings I also tried using several different HDMI cables NOTHING fixes the bad contrast and washed out colors By process of elimination I know therefore that the problem lies in the Dell nbsp I have spent hours on the phone with Dell tech support nbsp They reinstalled and updated the relevant drivers but to no avail Has anyone else expereinced this or have any suggestions nbsp I would really appreciate the help My XPS rsquo specs are as follows Dell XPS model Matte x non-touch display Intel HD Graphics gigs of ram gig solid state hard drive th Generation Intel Core i - U M Cache up to GHz Windows Home -bit

Regarding the notebook, am I correct in understanding that the color problem only appears on your two external monitors and not on the LCD of the notebook itself? If this is correct then I don’t suggest reinstalling video drivers, if the LCD has a good display the drivers aren’t going to be the problem.
Have you tried other connections than thunderbolt to HDMI? Does the TV and monitor have Display port, standard VGA or DVI connections that you can try different Adapters with?  I certainly understand how you may not have these extra adapters lying around but if possible, this may be a way to see if it’s a problem with the type of adapters you are using, or a problem with any type of adapters.  You mentioned you have tested both displays on other notebooks, where you using thunderbolt to HDMI adapters on these other notebooks?
I mention power options on a lot of my posts but with notebooks you can’t emphasize it enough, I certainly suggest testing with the AC adapter connected to the notebook, and the Windows Power options plan set to High Performance and check to see if that makes a difference.
I don’t know if I suggest a service right now, especially if I am correct in understanding that the image on the LCD is fine but it may eventually be something to try. I will shoot you a DM to get your information if this turns out to be a suitable option.

Hi,
today i received my new Dell XPS 13 9350. After Upgrading my BIOS to 1.19 and setting up my System I backup my Drive and restored it on the Samsung 950 Pro. But it doesn't boot!
Hour after hour i tested, tried in BIOS etc. and almost gave up. Even Booting from USB to reinstall or Booting Dell Diagnosis didn't worked. But the PM951 SSD worked fine. So lastly I downgraded to 1.0.5 and the 950 Pro worked.....
Question: Where can I find a newer BIOS than 1.0.5 but older than 1.19? I can't find any downloads.

Hello,

Replacing the motherboard did not resolve the issue; however, I now have a better understanding as to what's happening:

(tested with 2 SSD's, and 2 HDD's)
(tested with original and replaced motherboard)
(tested with both legacy and uefi boot modes)
(tested with secure boot enabled/disabled)
(tested with original BIOS firmware version, and latest --JAN 5th)
SCENARIO #1 (SATA1 as boot drive, m.2 as secondary) :

-BIOS randomly does not detect SATA1 drive (does not show in System Configuration). 
-"No boot device found"' error, followed by dell system check.

SCENARIO #2 (m.2 as boot drive, SATA1 as secondary):

-BIOS randomly does not detect SATA1 drive (does not show in System Configuration). 
-Post BIOS, Dell logo with spinner animation will show for more than a minute, and then boot into windows.
-SATA1 drive will almost always show in Windows (even though BIOS does not report it).

SCENARIO #3 (m.2 as boot drive, SATA1 disabled in BIOS):

-Windows boots fast (less than 10-15 seconds)

 
CONCLUSION:

The SATA1 drive is not always detected/initialized early on in the boot process (BIOS); it is often detected/initialized later on in the process (POST BIOS), but this causes a significant startup delay. 
TEMPORARY FIX:
 
Disable SATA1 in BIOS.


The problem described above makes the SATA1 drive unusable (given its poor stability) as a primary boot device, and impractical as a secondary drive.
 
 
Note: Most XPS users do not have a SATA1 drive (the larger battery takes its place), and/or are using RAID mode (I have not tested this configuration); therefore, this is not likely to be a well known issue...  PLEASE FIX ASAP!!!!

So about a week or two ago I updated my r - T to windows anniversary addition did some updates through the acer care center app and did a disc defrag and error check on my hard drive But ever since it has issues shutting down and coming up normally like I've noticed that when I shut it down or turning down completely on... shutting not R3-471T and and I always shut it down by going to the windows button then power then shut down that the light next to the symbol that looks like a light bulb is still lit up blue or sometimes a flashing orange Then when I would go to turn it on I would press the power button once and it would start up but now I have to press and hold the button for at least a minute to get it to start or if I notice the lights on when I shut it down then I have to press and hold the power button until the light shuts off and after that it will start up normally Now originally this was only happening after I would charge the computer overnight but now it's doing it just randomly I have tried using a different R3-471T not shutting down completely or turning on... power cord I've taken it to geek squad and they ran their programs and there was nothing wrong with it I've ran a couple free diagnostic programs that I found online and they say nothing is wrong with it The only other thing that I can think of to do is plug the charger into a different power strip or directly into the wall but since it doesn t do this just after being charged I don't know that that will fix it But I'm also wondering if since one of the updates that I did through the acer app before I was having this issue is a power management update if that maybe caused the issue Though I'm wondering if this is a software or hardware issue I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions or fixes nbsp Here is some info on my computer nbsp It's an Acer R - T Running windows nbsp Anniversary Editioni gb Ram ssd

When applying this driver via Plug-n-Play during an OS deployment (Win7 x64) or when manually installing post OS deployment, this driver causes a BSOD.
There are no other drivers available for this. Anyone have a solution?

Every time I attempt to shut down or restart windows XP, it will freeze completely at the time the screen says "windows is now shutting down". The only way to continue is to hold the power button down until it turns off. I've gone through a couple of power supplies and wonder if I have something in the wrong position or missing files. Any help is appreciated.

The most comon cause of the problem you describe is a device driver or .dll file that window doesnt like. did you install or uninstall and software or hardware prior to this starting?

What is chrome running in the background?
Because if I install Chrome, then it causes my HDTV streaming to glitch, break up, pixelate.
And when I uninstall chrome, the streaming is again smooth.
If I uncheck this, can I use chrome?

Using Dell Command Update on my XPS 13 9350, the Intel 100 series chipset driver ver. 10.1.1.13 keeps coming up as a recommended update and after installing it, and then checking again for updates, it comes up again as a recommended update, so the installation is not succeeding.  Having said that, it now appears in the update history (in the Command Update app) as having been installed 3 times, so what gives, Dell?

I have the exact same problem with my XPS13 9350.  All other updates have been installed via Dell Command Update.  I am trying to get the Dell DA200 adapter to work on vga and have read that the latest Intel 100 chipset drivers are needed.  It is not clear whether the the chipset driver is installed or not.

Hi Team,
I just purchased Dell XPS 9350. Whenever I do full shutdown then boot, always video, audio (both online and local videos) via any browser, VLC, movies & tv app are not playing and its keep loading. It will resolve once I restart the system, so its consistantantly happening after every full shutdown then boot.

I found that it's because of Realtek HD Audio driver  (V6.0.1.7829) and system working perfectly after rolling back to HD Audio Device default driver. Please fix this.

Im not sure if this will completely take care of the problem listed by the OP, bu when i searched Google for "disable outlook in firefox" that thread was the first thing that popped up. I have found out how to change the mailto: action in firefox (3.5.7) to stop outlook from opening.

Tools>options>applications
find "mailto" in content type column, and click the drop down box in the action column. There you can select from several mail clients including gmail.

This same procedure can be used to select which application opens most relivent file types.
