Preferred Solution: XP Pro has missing or corrupt mouse and keyboard drivers

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Get all the info you can on your keyboard and mouse - make, model, serial no etc. If u have access to another computer, try to go the the manufacturer's site and download the drivers from there. If not try driverguide.com. Good luck!

Machine is an OptiPlex 755.  Upgraded from Windows XP (32 bit) to Windows 7 (32).  While trying to update drivers, inadvertently removed drivers for keyboard & mouse. Windows 7 starts up no problem but I cannot use machine since keyboard & mouse inoperable.  Tried using wireless keyboard & mouse without success.  Any ideas on getting keyboard & mouse functionality back?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Missing keyboard & mouse drivers

Hi bobnsea Is it possible for you to press on F8 right before the Windows boot, but after your Dell splashscreen? This will get you in the "Advanced Boot Menu". From there, select the "Last Good Known Configuration" mode and see if your keyboard and mouse are detected on boot.

A:keyboard driver corrupt or missing.

Hello gymrat,
Try unplugging the keyboard, boot PC, when it's booted plug the keyboard back in, put it in a different USB port. Windows should re-install the generic driver.
Good luck and post your results, thanks.

On my fiance s computer corrupt? missing drivers or CD/DVD the DVD and CD drives suddenly don t work The last thing he remembers doing several months ago was installing a copy of Easy CD Creator First the system specifics Windows XP Pro Ver sp pentium III MB ram The reference to the CD-ROM in device mgr is quot IDE-CD R RW X X quot but CD/DVD drivers missing or corrupt? I don t know the mfr The reference to the DVD drive indicates that it is listed as a Pioneer in the device mgr quot PIONEER DVD ROM DVD- quot quot He told me the other day they were quot gone quot When I put a CD in the CD-ROM it spins it and the drive lights up but it doesn t launch anything The drives aren t visible in the directories I tried to use the system restore disk but it didn t work I accidentally rebooted the PC with the restore disk in the CD-ROM drive and it went to the screen asking if I wanted to boot from the system restore disk or the harddrive does that mean it read it I didn t try the restore disk at that point I removed it and selected hard drive In the device mgr I uninstalled the device and used the install hardware wizard to reinstall it I only tried this on the CD-ROM drive so far It acted like it just saw a new plug n play device and it quot installed quot the drivers BUT when I go back to device mgr the drive is back in the device list BUT still has the little exclamation point and it still says quot Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware The driver may be corrupt or missing quot That was interesting so I searched the internet for the driver using the same quot name quot it s listed with in the device mgr I stumbled upon a program called Driver Guide Toolkit SUPPOSEDLY it was supposed to be able to find my device and help me locate an appropriate driver It couldn t find my device after I installed it I guess because it s driver is supposedly missing Who knows The interesting thing about this is when I loaded the program and tried to access it I started getting Easy CD Creator configuration install dialogs Which you ll remember is the quot last thing quot that was done before this all happened Of course it put me in a dialog where it wanted me to put the CD in the drive It also got stuck in a short loop where it tried to quot install quot or configure the Easy CD about - times before it gave up with the dialogs The current driver info on the CD-ROM is quot Microsoft quot driver date version This is the one that was installed when I reinstalled the device I tried to search for this on Microsoft s site but when I searched for the version above I found an article referencing a module in Word instead What should my next step be nbsp

With a 2006 Gateway desktop computer running Windows Media Center Edition, with service pack 3 installed, and using just a standard PS/2 wired connected multi-media style keyboard, device manager says that it cannot load my keyboard driver because it is either corrupted or missing. And yes I did try updating the driver as well as uninstall device from within the Device Manager, and then re-booting, but still did not fix this issue. I did find a rather old multi-media keyboard driver at the Gateway site, and downloaded and installed it, but no success. This problem started just after uninstalling Webroot Spy Sweeper program, and I deleted any remaining registry keys with that application's name. That program does uses a key logger spyware option, and so may have modified original keyboard drivers. So where and how can I find basic standard keyboard drivers to install, Microsoft ?

I have lost all internet connection on my computer. Using 2wire gateway modem 2701 and that has been checked out and working fine. Somehow I have 3 gateway connections and do not know how they got there and can not uninstall them as it says fail to uninstall device as the device may be required to boot computer. When I go to troubleshoot in Device manger, it says the driver may be corrupt or missing error code 39 and con not uninstall. Have gone into registry and checked the Upper and Lower Filter and all is good there.
Also when computer has fully booted up I have an error screen saying error loading module pgsb.lto could not be found. I don't have a original CD for XP and no internet so I have to do everything from an old computer.

A:missing drivers or corrupt error 39

Causes of error code 39:A required device driver is missing. A required binary file is corrupt. There is a problem with file Input/Output (I/O) process. A driver referencing an entry point in another binary file is unable to load.Look in Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager - Check all items for missing drivers or outdated drivers - Start with your Modem - This site lists Four , 2701 gateway models , they may have updated drivers there for you to download -EDIT - Click on Support and Documentation in that site and type your model and look for Drivers -Or if you have an install CD, try to run that to look for drivers that may be on there -

When I turn on my PC it goes to a screen that says missing or corrupt
system32\DRIVERS\pci.sys

I have put in two different XP cd's to try and get to the repair installtion. It boots off the cd and starts to load the files as it would on any install. Just before it gets to the place where it would ask you to install or repair. The screen goes blank and then right back to saying "missing or corrupt
system32\DRIVERS\pci.sys" Is there any way I can get this file back on my hard drive so it will boot?

Thanks Steve

A:missing or corrupt system32\DRIVERS\pci.sys

I would suggest this :
Copy this file from another computer on to a floppy disk.
Then run your computer in safe-mode and load it into command line mode.
Copy the file from the floppy to the same location that it should be, and try
to reboot the system...

Hi everyone,
I got the following message: System32\DRIVERS\pci.sys missing or corrupt. It seems unlikely to me that the problem has anything to do with anything extra hardware I've installed since the only thing I ever use is an external HD which hasn't even been connected in months. In any case, I haven't any idea how to fix this. Safe mode, and every single other option that comes up after an "unexpected shutdown" doesn't work. It may load a few files but then stops and does the "System32\DRIVERS\pci.sys missing or corrupt."

I do have the CD's that came with it. I haven't done the complete system reinstallation because I have some files that I'd really prefer not to lose. Is there any hope?

Thank you for any help you can offer!

Sarah

Boot from your XP installation CD
when the Setup screen appears select the second option by pressing R to enter the Recovery Console
once you have selected your Windows installation and logged in (using a password if you have one set) type these commands in (pressing enter key after each line)

Type MAP to determine the drive letter assigned to the CD-ROM. in this example I have used the letter D, yours maybe different but MAP will tell you

Type expand D:\i386\pci.sy_ c:\Windows\System32\drivers /y

You should receive a message that says:
pci.sys
1 file(s) expanded.
Type exit
now reboot.

note: the above is off the top of my head, but Im pretty sure the command is correct

I'm not sure if this belongs here but I just recently have been having a problem with completely disabling my Dell touchpad Today I woke my laptop out of sleep mode and it failed to start get past the Starting Windows animation so I restarted it Everything was fine but my touchpad is not disabled like it's been for months So I tried going into the Can't drivers?) disable touchpad(corrupt/missing mouse settings and disable it Can't disable touchpad(corrupt/missing drivers?) through the touchpad tab Well I don't see that tab anymore After that I read online that if you don't see the tab anymore that means the driver isn't installed Can't disable touchpad(corrupt/missing drivers?) I did have the driver for it but then I decided to uninstall it through device manager to see if it might reinstall itself and fix the problem Before that Can't disable touchpad(corrupt/missing drivers?) I did try to update the driver but it said it was up to date and working After restarting it did say it was installing some drivers but still no sign of the touchpad settings Now when I go back to mouse or device manager where it used to list the touchpad that's been replaced with another HID compliant mouse The other thing I tried but discovered that wasn't such a good idea was I found my touchpad drivers on Dell's site for the right model and tried installing it upon installation it said that the same drivers existed and asked if I still wanted to install them and I did just that Wound up having to do a system restore to remove the files for the computer to boot up again I might try and do another system restore but I'm not sure if that'll fix the problem Is there a way to fully uninstall all traces of the touchpad so I can cleanly reinstall it

A:System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys corrupt or missing

Firstly, you should try restoring from restore points, that's if you have any. You could also try to repair your system files, by attempting this.1) First, insert the 'Windows XP CD', in your computer.2) Then, go to, startmenu / run / type in sfc /scannow.(With the gap between c and /.)3) When the window appears, it will repair your system files from the xp cd.4) If you have the xp cd already in and still any dialog box appears saying that 'Insert xp pro/home cd to continue', just click OK. And the process wil continue.RESTART, for the changes to take effect. If still no difference, then I've attached a?Ntfs.sys?file copy from my computer, and if still no difference from the above procedure, then you could try to download and place the Ntfs.sys file in C:\Windows\system32\drivers folder.Hopefully, you can now get back in business.?

Picture says a thousand words.

Tried uninstalling, tried loading the driver from the CD, can't uninstall the WAN Miniport adapters which weren't even there a week ago so I disabled them. I'm clueless right now. PC is clean and running perfect aside from this extremely weird problem, please help.

If you need any further details don't hesitate in asking, I'll be monitoring this thread constantly.

A:New Network Adapters and all drivers are corrupt or missing

You've enabled "Show Hidden Devices" in Device Manager. That's why you didn't see them before. The WAN adapters aren't "new".

Uninstalling these things is T-R-I-C-K-Y. I've done it several times, you have to delete a bunch of very specific entries in the registry. Nothing anyone can teach anyone else either. I'd say this is not an option for you.

The thousand word picture doesn't say what other "symptoms" you have, other than some flagged devices.

Enable everything you can, then report what's flagged. I assume this is an on-board Network Card. Disable the direct parallel in BIOS.

I used Microsoft Fixit to check my sick system. I receive cd/dvd driver class specific filters drivers are corrupt/missing and device is not accessible via an assigned driver letter. Then Fixit Troubleshooter has experienced an unexpected error and cannot continue. I went to Microsoft Support, did the regedit, device manager, registry editor/ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. When it asks to right click upper filters, there are none there (no lower filters either). Where do I go from here?

A:xp Pro 64 bit class filters drivers corrupt/missing

There are two possible options to fix this:
1.)

Navigate to Start
In the search box type: COMMAND

Next, look for command at the top of the list of options

Right click Run as administrator

Type at the C: command prompt: sfc /scannow

Hit Enter

---------------------------------------------------------

2.) OR....

Using your Windows XP disk, perform a "repair" install.
This will be more effective in the event item#1 doesn't fix the problem. If you need assistance with this, please let us know.

System32\drivers\KR10N.sys

How do i go about fixing this if the cpu will not even boot to windows. I have even tryed safe mode and get the same message.

Thanks for the help!!

Hi all I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe mother board and have been running the system fine, however I decided to download the new drivers, so I went on http://nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp then i downloaded it and installed it, while its was almost done installing, i left the room for about 1 min. and i came in and my comp restarted(i guess its normal for a system to reboot after installation), as i was sitting there waiting Everything was going normal until, Windows XP did not boot, I just get the following message: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: system32driversvatabus.sys" so I'm praying someone can help me here.

A:"system32\drivers\nvatabus.sys is missing or corrupt"

Hi Valic. The easiest thing to try would be to boot the machine and begin tapping the F8 key to get to the Boot Menu. Choose last known good configuration and see if your computer will boot with that.If that doesn't work then post back here and let us know what happened.Cheers.OT

Hello,

I've googled this problem up, but none have seemed to work for me at all. When i boot up my laptop (IBM Thinkpad 570E) it gives me the error message "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32\DRIVERS\pci.sys

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair." or its just a black screen.

My laptop, unfortunately, does not have a cd drive or a floppy disc drive, i've tried plugging in an external cd drive, but it didn't seem to read the cd at all. So right now i'm completely clueless as to how to fix this big black paperweight. I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone can give me some pointers on how to fix this. thank you.

A:Problems with missing/corrupt system32\DRIVERS\pci.sys

You probably need to go into the computer BIOS and set the first boot device to the CD-ROM, and try again.

I desperately need advice/help!
My Hewlett Packard Pavilion ZT3000 notebook was running fine but then Windows wouldn't load and the message, "system32\drivers\ntfs.sys is missing or corrupt" came up. I'm using Windows XP.
Only two things happened prior to this occurring, the lid got shut a little hard but no damage and I downloaded Servicepack 2.
I ran a HHD self test and it tested ok, all the help screens, etc. come up fine but not Windows.
I have an operating disk and a recovery disk but neither seems to help, so I'm probably not doing something right.
I would appreciate any help or advice. Thanks, Dee

A:System32/drivers/ntfs.sys missing or corrupt (Cant boot)

To restore a missing or corrupt ntfs.sys file you must have the Windows XP CD and follow the below steps.

1.Insert the Windows XP CD into the computer and restart the computer.
2.As the computer is starting make sure to press a key to boot from the CD.
3.In the Windows XP setup screen press the 'R' key to run the Windows Recovery Console.
4.If prompted enter the number of Windows installation you're repairing.
5.At the command prompt type the below command.

copy x:\i386\ntfs.sys c:\windows\system32\drivers

* In the above example you would replace x: with the letter of your CD-ROM drive. Many computers have the CD-ROM drive configured as the D: drive.

6.If ntfs.sys is still on the computer you'll be prompted if you wish to overwrite the file. If prompted, press the Y key for Yes to overwrite the file.
7.Once the file has been successfully copied remove the CD and reboot your computer.

A:missing or corrupt system32\Drivers\SbAlg.sys error

Hello, and welcome to bleeping computer.

See this link from the Mcafee Community. You will have to edit the registry offline, specifically the following key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GinaDLL

See this Microsoft KB article.

I have found that using the registry editor of Kaspersky Rescue Disk is the easiest to use when editing the registry offline.

I am using a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 800, and a Logitech M510 mouse, and noticed that there are two HID compliant Microsoft drivers installed for each in the Device Manager. On boot, the BIOS reports 2 keyboards and 2 mice.

I found this when trying fix the problem of an occasionally frozen keyboard, on trying to select a boot on the GRUB menu, or even to access the BIOS. This problem also occurs with Logitech keyboards as well. This is a dual boot Windows 7 and Xubuntu.

Ive had this problem before and my usb keyboard didnt work either. Luckily, I had an old PS/2 keyboard I kept 'just in case'.

This worked fine and I got mine working again, so I would recommend you buy a PS/2 keyboard as this should work.

I installed a new wireless desktop, Microsoft Wireless 3050 Desktop, and noticed that I've got multiple drivers installed in device manager. I uninstalled the duplicate drivers and rebooted and they all appear to have reinstalled. The screen shot posted below shows the drivers. Is this normal? If not, what is the fix so the system doesn't install duplicate drivers?

Hi. I have just managed to get data off a system (XP pro SP2) that refused to boot (original error msg missing DLL file) using ERD Commander and set the repair to the last restore point; which was set the day before initial problem occured. Now Windows opens in safe mode but no mouse or keyboard functioning. Both worked well during the ERD session. Any ideas what might be causing this and suggestions for a fix?

A:Missing Keyboard & Mouse

Hello CGsystech

Why are you booting into Safe Mode? Can you not boot to Normal Mode?
If the keyboard and mouse are USB they might not work in Safe Mode. PS2 variety should work.
Go into the BIOS and look if there is an option to enable USB support.

Good evening all,

New to the forum and I'm experiencing problems with my desktop running Windows XP Pro.

If I try to boot I get the message System32/drivers/ntfs.sys missing or corrupt

I have searched the forum and tried to do as advised here http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/923352-system32-drivers-ntfs-sys-missing.html

When I try to run Windows recovery console I get a blue screen with the same message :-( at part 3. of the above advice.

I'm guessing my drive has gave up the ghost but in true tight style I'm praying it is something silly and not the drive.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I'm not very good at fault finding but I know my way a round a PC well enough to do virus removal etc so not totally illiterate and able to follow any instructions given to me.

Plllllllllease someone help

I'm having a lot of quot fun quot with a rd-party Dell with Windows Pro x installed The complaint was that a fake support company had locked Windows with an unknown password The first thing I did was make a full backup of the Keyboard Not USB Mouse Drivers Properly Loading & drive USB Keyboard & Mouse Drivers Not Loading Properly so we're good there I connected the drive to another machine and scanned it with MWB and Windows Defender MWB removed some junk but WD found nothing I replaced the registry hives from the RegBack folder and with the drive back in its own machine the password prompt was now gone Windows logs in automatically straight to the desktop The problem now is that I have been unable to get a mouse or keyboard working in Windows The board has no ps port so I'm limited to USB devices there is a serial port but I don't have a serial mouse If I boot with the keyboard or mouse plugged in there is nothing unusual observed about the boot process other than that Windows is delaying login with an activation prompt If I move the kb or mouse to another USB port or plug them in after login I see the notification that Windows is installing a driver for the device This is eventually replaced by the prompt quot device driver software was not successfully installed quot The keyboard and mouse both work in the BIOS setup They both work when I boot from a Windows Installer USB When I boot into safe mode they don't work the mouse optic turns off when quot classpnp sys quot is the last line displayed When I boot into Windows recovery they work but there is no restore point to go back to I reset the BIOS to defaults and checked that everything to do with USB is set correctly I tried dropping the BIOS updater exe file into the user startup folder but the installer won't complete without interaction I tried opening the admin network shares from another machine on the network but this doesn't work due to the user having no password psexec fails for the same reason I considered dropping a batch file into the startup folder to initiate sysprep with generalisation but I haven't tried it yet I'm not sure it will work without privilege escalation I'm also wondering if I can activate the admin account with a password from a recovery command line Can anybody suggest how to get kb and mouse working on this machine without reinstalling Windows

A:USB Keyboard & Mouse Drivers Not Loading Properly

Who`s PC is this ? Why all the trouble ?

What is a 3rd party Dell ?

Is this PC new to you ?

In my opinion, why DON`T you reinstall windows, it would be best.

Sorry for the blatant questions, but when we see people trying to bypass passwords, circumnavigate this, find ways around that etc, we tend to get suspicious, we are not allowed to help people get around passwords and such.

Updating the bios will help nothing.

Why the hesitation about reinstalling windows ? It`s the best thing you can do.

Does the PC have a COA with a readable activation key ?

Answer some simple questions and we`ll be on our way to helping you.

Without any PS2 sockets you will need the original keyboard and mouse. Another Dell keyboard and mouse may work.

Hi Chaps Have reformatted an Evesham pc running Windows se after a series of problems but have one problem outstanding The cordless keyboard and mouse are and drivers keyboard cordless mouse logitech Logitech Itouch and Mouseman respectively but have no drivers I have a drivers disk for everything else and have loaded these successfully but I guess the Logitech devices were an add on at some stage and the drivers disk has gone missing The problem is getting them to recognise anything I have loaded down drivers onto my desktop that I think are correct from the Logitech website and executed the file which then puts logitech cordless mouse and keyboard drivers the drivers in place but everytime I try to point the quot USB Receiver device quot in Device Manager at a file path or to try and reinstall drivers I am continually asked to either load a Logitech Control devices driver disk or Windows disk Whatever I load it cannot find different Sys files The only way I can do anything is to have another mouse plugged into the usual mouse port The cordless mouse and keyboard are plugged into logitech cordless mouse and keyboard drivers the USB ports I have tried turning pc off and plugging in and then turning on pc but I just get mouse not detected until I plug in the corded mouse and reboot again Is there a separate driver for the Receiver device I am sure there must be a simple solution but at the moment I feel like a man with no arms dead nbsp

I have an Acer M5630 desktop, running Vista Home Premium, which came with an Acer cordless mouse (Model MG-0570T) and keyboard (Model KG-0570).

Although the Acer documentation refers to the driver providing task bar icons for low battery power, upper case lock, etc. there were no Acer drivers provided. The machine as delivered is using the standard Microsoft drivers which do not provide taskbar icons. I have contacted Acer and they say they do not provide drivers!

I would really like a battery low indication as the batteries don't seem to last all that long!

I am not sure where to go from here. Is Microsoft Intellipoint the answer? There are lots of downloads for Logitech mouse/keyboard drivers - would they do the job - I guess it depends how compatible the Acer keyboard/mouse combo is with Logitech?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

The battery tray icon can be had by right clicking the taskbar and selecting properties > then going to the Notification tab > checking the Power box > closing it then rebooting. As far as the rest, I'm not sure.

A:USB drivers for mouse and keyboard are crashing randomly

Hello Lexander,

Welcome to Seven forums.

You must check if the Mouse and keyboard are connected in USB 3.0 ports. If yes, then please try updating the drivers for USB 3.0 and chipset from the manufacturer’s website.

If the issue keeps re-occurring after multiple attempts of drivers update, then you may consider windows re-installation after backing up your data.

I have no way to get into my computer to fix the problem. If I put in my XP CD (if I can find it) won't I have to click on something to fix the problem? How can I do that when I have no input device. Hi

Before we do anything, does the keyboard work enough to get you into the BIOS, if so then before windows XP boots to the splash screen, just after the post screen, hold down F8 to go into the startup actions screen and choose "last known good config" and see if that works, if not try "safe mode"

Or

Boot from the XP CD and go to the recovery console, your mouse and keyboard will work as XP isnt using the damaged drivers at this point, once in the recovery console enter "SFC /scannow" without the prompts and hit enter, XP will check all the system files and should replace any missing ones.

Or read this MS article about recovering from a registry fault.

Thats all I can suggest

A:HP New Keyboard with Mouse - Missing USB Receiver

@bellaluna?, welcome to the forum. It is my understanding that the only receiver that works is the one that comes with the mouse and keyboard.  Therefore, I don't believe that you will be able to get a new receiver.  With that said, you can check HP Partsurfer to see if it shows any possibilities. I lost the receiver to one of my Microsoft mice and it is now useless.  They don't sell the receivers separately. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

I recently have been experiencing BSOD with BUGCODE USB error. Machine freezes on startup, then sometimes automatically reboots. Sometimes freezes on startup at different points and has to be unplgged for about an hour before it restarts properly. I read on several threads to uninstall the USB drivers and on startup, the drivers will reinstall automatically. The only problem is the keyboard and mouse are USB and on startup, none of the USB ports work so I can't enter the password to start windows properly so that it can load the drivers. Hindsight is 20/20 but I now realize that was pretty stupid as I have no other ports to plug the keyboard and mouse to.

A:Deleted bad USB drivers, now on startup, USB keyboard and mouse inop

Ok. I let it sit for about an hour and it fired up. Keyboard and mouse work OK after startup. Still will not shut down properly and locks on the shutdown screen. Will not reboot unless you leave it for about an hour. I am currently using the machine as I type this and it seems to work OK. It just locks up during shutdown and locks up sometimes during startup. I'm guessing a bad USB driver but not sure.

I recently updated the Windows XP Nvidia drivers for MSI P7N SLI Platinum motherboard. The Nvidia driver download updated video, usb, network, and ide, etc.

When I rebooted I no longer had video, keyboard, network, etc.

I have a upek usb fingerprint reader which allows me to log on to Windows when I reboot using vga mode. However I can only get into windows, I can't control the mouse or keyboard. I suspect because Windows is trying to detect new hardware and it's waiting for a response. Problem is I don't have controls to tell it skip so it can detect my updates for my mouse, keyboard, video, etc.

I've tried a usb & ps2 mouse and keyboard and have the same problem.

Has anybody had this same problem?

Any help would be appreciated as I am about to go buy an external drive so get the data off before I restore my hard drive from backup.

Thanks!

Well...system manufacturer and model?

If you have XP Pro installed, why do you have a CD with XP Home on it? That CD can only be used to access the XP Recovery Console if the O/S reflected on the disk differs from that installed.

I would try running the chkdsk /r command again, from the Recovery Console...after changing the boot order in the BIOS.

If chkdsk /r completes, that's OK. If there is an error message and the command stops executing...that's not good. The summary message at the end of the chkdsk /r is unimportant.

hi

bought an old Dell Optiplex GX280, booted up, usb mouse and keyboard are seen and im asked to click continue [or similar] to install drivers for them. but of coarse i cant as they dont work in the first place. same problem with a serial mouse,,,any ideas anyone

what is topic description/title for
thanks

A:Optiplex GX280 keyboard & mouse not working becuase i cant install drivers

Hi, I'm guessing that this is not a new install of Windows XP?

Do some test. Turn on the Power and when the Dell logo appears Press the F2 key for the Bios Setup and see if that works, Same with F12. F12 is the boot device menu. If so then that is good. If not then report back. That will determine if the Keyboard is working at all.

Is your GX280 one of the ones that has a PS2 port for the Keyboard and Mouse? If So borrow them if You can and use them to click to install the USB ones. This is an example. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-OEM-Dell-OptiPlex-GX280-IO-Serial-PS2-Panel-board-with-cable-T4444-0T4444-/350632562578
I do not vouch for this vendor, I only use them as an example.

The reason I asked about the PS2 ports is there are several versions of the GX280 as I remember the model. Some have PS2 ports in the card slots area. Those hook up to the motherboard with a cable.

Quite often if you let it sit at the login screen and then tap, Not Hold, the power button so it shuts off, The keyboard and mouse will work on the reboot.
Good Luck

Hi. . .

If you've had to carry around a USB stick with Windows 10 OS on it for the last month for the sole purpose of replacing corrupted Windows files, it's time to reinstall Windows.

After about 1 minute the mouse scroll and keyboard stop working until I left click mouse. Tool bar on browser also greys out but comes back after left click. Video and sound also are choppy. Not sure if this is related. Flash keeps crashing. Any ideas whats wrong? Windows 7 pro. Asus desktop. This occurs on Firefox, Chrome and IE. This seemed to start after Microsoft update and Flash updates

A:Mouse scroll and keyboard stop working until left click of mouse

Hello mpmckee,

First run Antivirus, Malware, and Spyware scans. Remove anything the programs find.

Note: if you need some suggestions on which tools to use, let me know.

Afterwards, test functionally of mouse and keyboard.

If no change, run System Restore, choose a Restore point before the issue started.

Again test behavior of mouse and keyboard.

If the issue has been resolved, go ahead and reinstall windows Updates.

I got a wireless mouse Penguin Ambidextrous Vertical Mouse | Posturite. It is supposed to use generic windows 2.4 Ghz adapter. However, windows 7 is unable to find any drivers. The screenshot of device manager is appended. I tried various other ways e.g. take out other USB devices, reboot etc. I tried sfc /scannow . But the error persists. There is no usb.inf file in the C:\Windows . It works in Windows 8 machine but not in windows 7. other 2.4 Ghz mice work. The manufacturer says that they don't provide the drivers because the mouse uses generic drivers
Please advise what can be done.

Did you do a Search of the Windows Folder including subFolders and hidden Files? My Win7Ult has several such files but only 2 that are usb.inf only in subFolders of Windows, others have longer names but most appear to be associated with my AMD CPU/Gigabyte Motherboard setup.

A:Keyboard drivers installer unable to recognise keyboard

Is this a special keyboard? does your motherboard have ps2 connection for a keyboard/mouse? If so, try connecting a ps2 keyboard as a temporary solution until you can iron out the driver issues. Or maybe just a plain vanilla USB keyboard will do the trick. I don't think your PSU has anything to do with it. Hope this helps.

I already have the issue that when I put my E to sleep and wake it up again that the keyboard and touchpad do not work So I have disable the sleep options in the BIOS Now I run into different issues Yesterday I booted the laptop and it hang on the DELL logo After a while it stated that - External to - resons E5570 do display/keyboard/mouse work display, Black Latitude no keyboard/touchpad my EFI file would not be correct Force reboot and it booted straight to Windows What s more annoying is the fact Latitude E5570 - Black display, no resons to keyboard/touchpad - External display/keyboard/mouse do work that the laptop boot the DELL logo is shown and then the screens go s black as if it s not connected SO it looks like it hangs BUT an external monitor through HDMI does work and show the windows logon The keyboard and touchpad also do not work External mouse and keyboard do work So pretty much I got a brick when I do not have external display keyboard and mouse available When I reboot the laptop it works fine again Am I the only one with this Loads of issues with the laptop and wondering if I just have a faulty laptop Clean Windows Pro install is done times Used the nbsp DELL Command Update to install all drivers and patches Issues keep existing

A:Latitude E5570 - Black display, no resons to keyboard/touchpad - External display/keyboard/mouse do work

I have been spending a lot of hours in troubleshooting this week.
Diagnostics are 100% ok.
Reinstalled Windows 10 about 15 times.Installing drivers by hands, installing drives trhough the dell update management application. The issues keeps existing.
To sum the them up:- Cold boot (laptop is off) to Windows. Keyboard/Touchpad do not work. (Reboot and they work again)- Resume from sleep. Keyboard/Touchpad do not work. (Reboot and the work again)
After I got the laptop I installed 32Gb of RAM and an 512Gb Samsung 950Pro PCIE M.2 NVME drive. The drive should be support as Dell states on the product page and in the manual that PCIE with NVME is supported.
"Advanced features, like industry-leading M.2 SATA and M.2 PCIe/NVME solid state drives, provide data transfer speeds up to 4x faster over traditional hard drivers. "
In order to get the drive visible and running on PCIe I had to disable the sata controller in the BIOS.This way the drive is detected in Windows as an PCIe NVME capable drive.
Just to verify if the issues I went back to default with the delivered 256Gb M.2 sata drive and 8Gb RAM.To install Windows I had to turn the Sata controller back on.
Installed the drivers manually updated WIndows and tested. The issues do NOT occur.
Retested by installing the drivers using the Dell Update Application. The issues do NOT occur.
So I figured out that the SATA controller somehow is the guilty part for all the issues.I mean when enabled to ACHI or RAID the sleep and non working keyboard/touchpad issues do not occur.
When disable the issues DO occur.

So DELL can you please tell me how I can fix this as you state PCIe NVME drives are supported??

Welcome to SevenForums Jody
Does this same thing happen when you double click on something? You may need to go to Mouse in control panel. If you need to change the veiw in control panel then just click on catagory and select large icons. When you have Mouse open then you can try messing with the settings or opening properties and try updating driver. good luck to you.

The office jet installed with absolutely no problems and even has full function - scan fax etc. Was picked up immediately and software/drivers installed automatically.
HOWEVER - my HP CLJ 1600 is picked up in Devices and PRinters but no drivers install. I have tried 3 times to download and install HP drivers but each time i try and extract the file it says the file is corrupt and extraction failed!
I have tried numerous things - and once it was installed, showed as device working properly but wouldnt print - no test page, no documents etc. I removed it in control panel and tried again - no it shows as an unspecifed device!

Help please......

Here are the install instructions :
Use this software for first time USB installations only. Do NOT attach USB cable until prompted by the install program
Close any software programs running on your computer.
Click the Download only button and save this file.
Double click on the downloaded file. The self-extracting process will appear.
Click to accept the terms in the license agreement. Click Next.
Driver installation begins. Driver files are pre-installed during this process.
A screen pops up to prompt to connect the USB cable. Insert the USB cable.
Device is connected, waiting for PnP to finish installing driver.
Click Finish to complete software installation.

I hope installing the software before connecting will resolve the issue. You might be able to restore around your first attempt if it still wont install, and try again.

My PC with recently installed XP Home will not recognize the cd-rom drive anymore (after a system error from trying to install a sound card driver).

I tried doing an uninstall, reboot, reinstall, update driver, etc......nothing works! It always comes up with something about not finding suitable drivers for this device.

Is there any easy way to get the drivers back again? I only have a single Windows XP Home cd which is meant to be installed on a new Dell PC, but worked ok with my somewhat generic PC. Someone told me it was just a recovery cd, but it did the full installation.

I would like to just re-install Windows XP, but I can't now without the cd-rom!

When investigating with device manager found drivers were either corrupt or missing. Attempted to update: no go. Couldn't roll back either. Removed and reinstalled, rebooted but to no avail. Every now and then my mouse cursor icon will turn into a bunch of horizontal lines extending the height of the real icon with some of the colors of what it's supposed to be. When I have a game set to hardware cursor the in-game mouse cursor will do the same, look like a bunch of vertical lines with some of the coloring of what the icon is supposed to be. Sometimes this appears to be the cause of a lock-up soon after the icon changes. If it doesn't lock up, the icon may or may not fix itself simply by mousing over other stuff or attempting to change the screen resolution. Sometimes it fixes itself after a few moments, sometimes it can stick for over an hour. I have a Radeon 4850 video card.
