AMD Radeon 8850m device is missing

Q: AMD Radeon 8850m device is missing

Hi All,
This is my first post here
So the issue I am facing is that I have a Dell Laptop with dual graphics card (Intel(R) 4400 integrated and AMD Radeon 8850m dedicated). The System would not detect any AMD driver installed on it. The device manager was showing only the Intel Graphics Card being installed .
Then I went on to uninstall the Catalyst Command Center from Control Panel, wherein I completely uninstalled the AMD Graphics driver and everything related to it.
Now, AMD is not at all being recognized by my system. Device manager doesnt show it even in hidden devices, DriverEasy scan doesnt read it, Even Dell System detect is failing to detect the AMD graphics Card.

How do I proceed ahead with this issue.

Have I somehow unmounted the hardware internally?
Is there anyway besides a factory reset to get this working again ( I have concerns with a factory reset also not helping me )
What system scan tools can I use to get my laptop to recognize the Device again?
Please Help
Thanks In Advance

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi! I have a problem with the graphic card in my Dell 3537. The vga (radeon 8850m) tried to refresh the new crimson driver, but I stopped it by 2% (because my internet is REALY slow (70kb/s)). Since the system freezes, when I try to install any vga driver. ANY driver, also official dell driver or official windows driver (left click in device manager am graphic card) or the new crimson driver or older ati driver. I tried BIOS reset and new windows install - did not help. The problem on the old win10 and on the new win10 exactly samething. I need a tiny help :)atiwinflash shows that:

Hi everybody.

I just bought myself a Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 yesterday. After installing the card and the required drivers everything works like a charm. However, every time I start up my PC I get a message saying that a new device has been found on my system. On checking Device Manager I found an "Unknown device" entry under "Other devices".

I'm attaching a screenshot of Device Manager.

Are there any drivers I'm missing? It only happened after removing my old card (after uninstalling all its drivers) and installing the Radeon.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Unknown Device In Device Manager After Installing Radeon HD 4890

I have a Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 (I also have a Gigabyte 4890 and XFX 4890 in two other PCs). I think you need to install the latest ATI Catalyst Suite. You may have installed the driver only package. Anyway, I think it has to do with the HDMI capabilities of the card. High def sound is built into the card (the HD part of the card name) and the HD sound driver is part of the Catalyst Suite. When you use an HDMI cable to an appropriate display, HD sound is also transmitted through the same cable from the Radeon graphics card.

Of course, be sure to install .NET Framework 2.0 as it is required before you can install the full Catalyst Suite. The HD sound driver won't install without it. At least I had trouble before I installed .NET 3.5. I went to Windows Update and installed .NET Framework 3.5. 2.0 is included in that update and 2.0 wasn't available separately.

I have a computer where the DHCP service will not start due to a missing dependent service.  I did some digging and found that the NetBT.sys file was missing, as well as the related Registry keys and the NetBIOS over TCP/IP service in Device Manager.
I tried copying the NetBT.sys file over from a known good XP SP3 machine, but before I went any further, I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.  Can someone offer some suggestions to fix this without having to reload XP?

A:NetBT.sys missing, registry entries missing, and NetBIOS over TCP/IP service missing from Device Manager

For what it is worth, I pulled the netbt.sys file from a known good machine and putting it into the %Windows%\system32\drivers folder, then imported the registry keys for NetBT from the same machine.  Rebooted the computer and the "NetBIOS over TCP
IP" driver showed up in Device manager under "Non Plug-and-Play Devices".  It showed that it was started, and verified that the DHCP client server was started as well.  Everything was in good working order at that point.  Here are the registry

Recently I attempted to connect to an existing paired connection to my phone via bluetooth. I have never had this problem before, yet suddenly Bluetooth is missing. There is no longer an icon in the taskbar, the setting in "PC and Devices" is missing, and there appears to not be a driver installed, rather, an ""Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" appears in my devices instead. I have taken many steps to attempt and fix this, such as:
manually starting Bluetooth services from services.mscuninstalling the "Unknown Device" driver, then attempting to let Windows reinstalldownloaded the driver software from Lenovo for the Bluetooth adapter, installed it manually restartedtake a system restore created yesterday and revert back to it

Everything else in the PC functions perfectly. Any help is appreciated

I had a similar problem recently where my bluetooth seemed to have just disappeared.
I ran the Find and Fix problems with devices (Just typed it into the start screen). It found one thing which by memory said something about a usb device being disabled. Clicked for it to fix the problem and enable it. Sure enough my bluetooth was right back.
Not sure if it will work for you, but its worth a try.

I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad Helix (system model 36984SU) on Windows 8.1 Pro, 64-bit. I recently factory reset the computer to downgrade from Windows 10 (I was past the 1-month "downgrade-for-free" option with no Windows 8 recovery files) to Windows 8, then I upgraded to Windows 8.1. I had issues with the digitizer pen in the past that were never resolved, and I guess factory resetting the device still didn't solve them. I've looked at all the "install this pen driver" threads out there, and then I realized that my Device Manager doesn't even recognize a pen (see picture below, "HID-compliant pen" is nowhere to be found. I would love to use the digitizer someday..... so what do I do?

I recently did some upgrading to switch from windows XP 32-bit to windows 7 32-bit. Included in my upgrades was the installation of HIS Ati Radeon HD 4670 graphics card. I chose this card because my motherboard still has an AGP slot, and the reviews said that it works well with windows 7. However, upon installation of windows, and downloading the graphic card drivers for windows 7, the system won't detect it and I'm at a loss of what to do. Any advise is appreciated!

Do you have onboard graphics as well? If so, check in your BIOS for what the primary card is. Set it to the AGP card.

Hi All, i recently had to do a format and clean install. i have been having countless problems with graphics card (AMD R5 M255) to the point where i have probably reinstalled the drivers a million times. Today however the GPU no longer shows up in the device manager, i have tried installing the drivers but the crimson software no longer picks up the graphics card so it doesnt install the drivers. I cleaned the drivers off the pc with the AMD driver cleanup utility as well as DDU. i also had a technician out yesterday and they replaced the entire system board on the laptop, so everything is brand new. the GPU was being picked up prior to my idiotic cleaning of the drivers with DDU.

A:ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics card Windows 8 driver missing

So the problem with Windows 8 64-bit installation now is, that it can't install drivers for ATI Mobility Radeon x1600, neither from Win 8 64-bit installation media, nor from Windows Update -service - it just installs generic windows display driver.
If one installs older Vista-version drivers for that graphics card, there may be problems that on boot laptop flickers several minutes display and then either gives Windows 8 login screen or just keeps flickering, varying time to time.

I know that there is latest legacy driver package at ATI, but that doesn't support Mobility Radeon Xnnn-models, it only supports plain Xnnn-models. If one tries to install with that, it says that graphic card (so mobility radeon -models) isn't supported.
 So these won't work.

With Internet Explorer (this doesn't work with other browsers!) I checked Microsoft's update catalog service (where it-support of companies can download windows update -packages for centralized testing before deployment to workstations of them), so - do
this with administrator-user in Windows:

That asks to install Microsoft add-on in IE to use that service at first, so do it.
Then in search field, in upright, search "mobility radeon x1600" and you'll find those driver-packages that Microsoft Update -service offers. There are x86 and amd64 drivers of that graphics cards for Windows 7  (version
8.561.0.0 dated 1.12.2008).
One can download those Windows 7 -version drivers from that update catalog on a folder as cab-file and then to use that package to update graphics card drivers, in Device manager, graphics card properties and updating drivers from the download folder of
those update catalog drivers (one can unpac cab-file with 7-zip or such).
I managed to do that and got those drivers
(version 8.561.0.0 dated 1.12.2008) installed and working on Windows 8 and now ATI mobility radeon X1600 works like a charm in Windows 8 too (like it does with Windows 7).

So, why Windows 8 install / windows update -service don't offer that same ATI mobility radeon driver for Windows 8 on laptop with that ati mobility radeon x1600 or why doesn't it recognize ati mobility radeon x1600 on that hp-laptop, thus the driver works
with it? That works for Windows 7 installation / from windows update -service and that same driver seems to work perfect in Windows 8 too, like it does with Windows 7.

After reinstalling XP due to problems. I have created more problems with the fact that there is no video card or whatever installed. I have had the computer a while now and it worked perfectly before so I don't know what's wrong with it.

After opening the Device Manager, I couldn't find my video or graphics card under there and when I ran dxdiag, in the notes at the bottom it says:

"The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.

"The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.

That is what you need to do then the card will show up in Device Manager.
Find our which video card you have and go to the manufacturers site to search for XP drivers for the exact model.

I was attacked by a virus. I use Windows XP and have two users on the system. I cleaned the virus out using Malwarebytes and NOD 32. No viruses are present. I have two users on the XP. One user is able to access the Internet and has full functionality. The second user is unable to access the Internet. When searching for the fix using the Diagnosticsit it shows that DEVICE IS MISSING referencing DSL connection and the one user. And Propsys.dll not found. I have tried the System Restore function for the one nonfunctional user. This did not fix the problem. Any solutions?

Have you looked in device manager to see if your networking drivers are installed and working?
Why not run ccleaner and superanti-spyware now too, in that order. Bet you will find some remnants.

Is this a program that you deleted? If so, you don't need that virtual device driver any longer.

Go to Start > Run, and type: regedit.

Look for "Find" under Edit or View menus and click it. In the box type:
and click OK or Find or whatever it is.

When it finds something, right-click and delete. Then, press F3 to continue searching. Keep searching and deleting until you are informed that you have searched the entire registry.

That will do it.

Always back up your registry before making any changes. If you are not familiar with working in the registry, then you should NOT attempt to make any changes on your own. A:Missing Device Drivers

Hi: You need these drivers for some of the devices you listed... Base system devices: The JMicron Media Card Reader Driver enables the integrated media card slot in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. PCI Simple Communications Controller: This package provides the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The Intel Management Engine Interface enables communication between the host operating system and the Intel Management Engine firmware. Unknown Device: This package provides the HP 3D DriveGuard Software for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. HP 3D DriveGuard Software protects the hard drive by parking the heads if the notebook is accidentally dropped, or is abruptly impacted by another object. After you install the above drivers and restart the PC, please post the hardware ID's for the remaining devices that need drivers. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the device(s) needing drivers. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 3rd item (hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

Chances are that you are not using the SPDIF. Install the unknown device. Try updating with right-click or look for audio drivers at Dell.

Now, when I try to play music, it gives me an error message saying "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly." I've gone through the whole troubleshooter and it can't find the problem. I've got my speakers hooked up but when you go to Control Panel, then Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices and click on Sounds and Audio Devices, it says that there is no audio device installed. I've gone through everything I can think of but nothing works, please help!

A:Missing Sound Device

You have to install the drivers for your sound device. You should have a CD somewhere that came with your computer. The motherboard CD perhaps? Depends on your package at time of purchase. You can download the drivers if you don't have the CD, usually from the computer/motherboard manufacturers website.

A:Missing Device Manager

The easiest way to recover the data is to physically remove the hard drive that's in the affected computer and connect it to another computer as a slave drive (make sure you reset the jumper as per the diagram on the hard drive).

You should then be able to move the data to either that computer's hard drive, an external drive, cds or dvds, etc.

Once saving your data completed, reinstall your original hard drive as master in your computer, (setting the jumper again accordingly) reformat and reinstall XP if you have the Windows XP installation cd or use a Restore cd that may have come with the computer.

If you did not get any disks with your computer when it was new, there may be a restore partition which is accessed before Windows starts.
Boot the computer and look for instructions on the bottom of the screen - again - BEFORE Windows starts.

A:Windows 7 - VPN Missing Device

Hello Ryan,
Can other users normally use the VPN?
Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
1. If you install any third-party VPN connection program, remove them and check if the issue still exists.
2. Create a new account and check if the issue persists in the new profile.
If you can normally use the VPN in the new profile, please refer to the following article to fix the corrupted profile.
3. Preform a clean boot to exclude the cause of software conflicts

For more information, please take a look at the following thread similar to this issue.

A:missing device drivers

The link below contains downloads for all of the drivers that you will need on your laptop. Obviously you cannot download them from the laptop due to the absensce of the NIC's(network interface card) drivers. Since you clearly have access to the internet from another PC, could you burn a CD or just a flash drive (a floppy disk will probably not be large enough).

If there are multiple devices listed, you can try using a program like Everest to see if you can narrow it down.

On some laptops it's possible to toggle on/off the webcam from the keyboard by pressing and holding down "Fn" then pressing the key which has a camera icon it. Can't be more specific since I don't know make or model.

If that is not the issue, and there are no errors showing in Device Manager, it's possible that the webcam itself is faulty.

If you set AHCI mode in BIOS, you won't need additional drivers but if it is set to RAID, you will need the pre-install drivers from motherboard support site.

I have seen a couple of posts with similair issues and wasnt sure where to look to find the correct drivers. Thanks in advance for any help I can get, I will also post a screenshot from the device screen below.

Hi: You need this driver... The JMicron Media Card Reader Driver enables the integrated media card slot in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

Hi all, I beleive this is an error with all Acer 7535G laptops, and was wondering if there is a fix. This is the error I get; "This device cannot start (Code 10)".

I uninstalled and reinstalled, which didn't work. I tried a fix which worked for 4550 models, which was to uninstall, go into Safe Mode and delete the drivers, then reboot and they'll automatically re-install, which they did, but the error was still there.

Is there an fix out there whatsoever? I understand the 3200 Series is supposed to work without the laptop being plugged in, and when it is plugged in, it should switch to the 4500 Series.

Btw, I'm running 64Bit W7 Ultimate.

Hi all. I'm trying to make an adjustment to my mouse properties settings which requires going into the "device settings" tab, which seems to be missing. I've included a screenshot showing where the device settings tab should be and a screenshot of 'my' mouse properties showing that the device settings tab is missing.
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem. Preferably a link to a driver that restores this option (and the correct procedure for installing it).
I'm running Windows 7 home premium on a Dell n5050 laptop with an Alps pointing device.I believe I have the latest driver already installed (screenshot) .
I need the tab to make adjustments to my touchpad, not an external mouse. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jim

A:[resolved] Device Manager Missing??

I think this is starting to be a bigger problem. I (and others by searching the web) have just been recently hit with this also and no one can seem to find a fix, not even Microsoft yet.

Do you have any other problems like missing connection icons in your Network Conenctions folder (even though the network/internet still works), very slow display of My Compter or any problems with USB devices?

Those are my problems, and for some reason I was also prompted to reactivate Windows because of significant hardware changes, and there weren't any. I am in contact with Microsoft through email support as are others, but right now no one can seem to find a general fix that works. I would first reccomend to you to get updated to Service Pack 2.

I had been using the IE well until yesterday I cannot open any web page. I'm sure the network works fine, because I can receive/send email using outlook. I thought maybe the IE had some problem, so removed the IE 7, downloaded IE 8 using another PC, then installed the IE 8, but it still cannot open any web page. I checked the Network Connections, found "Unavailable - device missing" under MSN Connection manager.

What should I do to solve this problem?

When restarted my windows 7 x86 the below image appeared on bottom-right corner, saying "USB device not recognized", image 1. And in device manager there is yellow sign of that driver, image 2.
There isn't any USB stick attached to this but whenever I restart the machine this message appears!
I tried to use online updating the driver but it says best driver is already installed!
I don't know how to get rid of this problem.
Please help to solve it.

When I go to the Device Manager, there are no com ports listed under Ports (COM & LPT). The only thing listed under Ports is 'Unknown Device'. This is occuring on a Motion Computing Tablet Model LE 1600. We just recently had it sent back to have the motherboard replaced.

We didn't notice this problem until we attemped to connect a Leica GPS unit in ArcMap.

How do we get the COM Ports back?

A:COM Ports Missing - Device Manager

Be sure that the port is enabled in BIOS. Try removing it from Device manager and rebooting for reinstallation.

If BIOS allows it, and the above does not work, try changing the IRQ or memory used by COM1.

Missing network device - EXTERNALDRIVE
Since the last Windows 10 update which I installed on Dec. 9 I am missing one devices in Explorer > Network on one of three network computers.
They are all present on the other two computers. One of these is Windows 10., the other is Vista Premium.
The complete device list under network is Frankspc, Charlottespc, and Sue_ASUS and ExternalDrive.
The missing device on the Explorer list on Frankspc is EXTERNALDRIVE. I can ping it at
Any Ideas on how to get it back in the Explorer list?

I got my Explorer Network access straightened out by following the instructions of KRL here:
Solved *** How I Fixed My Missing Network Homegroup Computers *** - Windows 10 Forums
I don't have 100% success yet because one laptop (Sue_asus) does not show the EXTERNALDRIVE. The other two do show it.

Working on daughter's Acer Aspire 7520 laptop.
DVD quit working back some months ago.
Can you fix it Pop?

DVD missing from device manager and also from Windows Explorer.
Found original DVD installation in inf DEV file.

Did the Regedit... delete upper/lower filters thing. No help.

DVD hardware seems OK, placed DVD in my laptop and it works fine.
Placed my DVD in Acer laptop.... does not function.

Reinstalled OS (Vista Home Premium) from hidden partition using ACER tools.
No change in DVD problem.

Reviewed all I could find on ACER web site regarding Aspire 7520... nothing.

Tore down computer and inspected internal connections, especially the hardware
that connects the DVD. Everything in proper order. No wear and tear. Computer is
in otherwise good shape. Fixed a Power Buttom issue with super glue.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A:Laptop DVD missing from Device Manager

Some Additional info.

Deleted two (2) programs pertaining to DVDs. No help.

"SCAN for Hardware Changes" from the device manager.... detects nothing.

DVD will eject by pushing button. Place a CD in DVD and the READ light comes on.
So... it's getting power and functioning internally. I just don't think that it's
communicating with the computer for some reason. I've flip flopped back and forth
about whether it's a hardware or a software issue. I'm leaning toward Software!!!

Still trying to get my system in order since the most recent reformat. Everything seems to be okay EXCEPT . . . my speakerphone, phone answering program doesn't work. I suspect its because the wave device driver of my US Robotics Winmodem is lost somewhere.
Under device manager for US robotics Modem , I notice wavedevice for voice modem with a yellow exclaimation thingie. I go to re-install the driver from the win cd but to no avail.
What's the deal here? Where can I find this file so my speakerphone and answering machine can work again?
