Mouse won't work, please help!

Q: Mouse won't work, please help!

This is driving me nuts!

I may have deleted some sort of mouse drivers by mistake I'm unsure.

I thought most mouses were plug and play? My machine recognizes my 3 diffrent mouses I plug into it I.e; they all light up, there all optical mouses, but the computer does not respond, I went out and bought a new mouse and keyboard today and when I plugged in the mouse it work for about ONE second..and then stopped in its tracks. I did get a prompt from my task bar saying theres something wrong, click here to fix it...but HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO CLICK IT when my mouse doesn't work....

Please help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I got an optical mouse with a scroll wheel for Christmas last year and the scroll wheel won't work on anything (IE, Compuserve, Netscape).
It has no brand name anywhere on the mouse so I can't look for a new driver. It came from Office Depot and it has no disk/CD. When I plugged it in it did not load anything else and I tried Add/Remove Hardware, but it didn't find anything new. Is there anything else I can do?

All clicks are inactive. right clicking, left clicking and even when you leave the mouse over the start button or any folder for a description it doesn't work.

I currently am running Windows XP Home Edition. I have to run in system recovery mode (safemode but you are still running the OS). It is very hard to because nothing runs on startup in recovery mode so I am very limited because my spyware protection does not work.

If you can help me please do.

Thank you!

A:Mouse clicking doesn't work only moviong around the mouse

You have told us absolutely nothing about your system so all I can answer with is do XP Repair:
If you do not have a Windows XP cd, then you will need to buy one. Or use system restore disk to wipe out drive and return to clean and new as once was....those are the only options for what you have told us or if you have a ps2 mouse try a usb mouse, but I still think your system must be totally corrupted and need the XP repair bare minimum.

Alright guys, Windows update has been really messing with my pc lately. I ran update and when it installed the updates my integrated mouse ended up not working. I rolled back update and installed the updates one by one and the one I ended up not installing was the camera codec pack. Now the problem I am having is that my touchscreen won't work. If I talk to HP support they do the most basic thing they can and then when they can't fix it they tell me that I have to ship it to them because hardware is broken. (obviously not the case because uninstalling an update fixed my problem.) If you guys know what update is at fault or if you know how to diagnose the problem I would be grateful.

Thank you.

A:Mouse won't work now touchscreen won't work. Windows updat

There's no shortcut I know of. It's a matter of roll it back so the system works normally. Install the next update in the list. Test. Repeat.

Until you find the culprit.

It may be a good idea to write down the updates on a pad of paper as you install them. Over time it's easy to lose your place in the list. Especially with rebooting etc..

So i bought a new USB Mouse because my PS/2 one is kinda broken with the left click, though i've searched for the problem and found out that it was the switch in the mouse, but i didn't feel like opening my PS/2 mouse and trying to fix it. So i bought a cheap USB Mouse. Now i've plugged it in, and when i plugged it out, the PS/2 mouse wasn't working. I still need to use the PS/2 mouse for playing games because it feels more comfortable, and i'm much more used to it. I tried restarting the pc then plugging in the PS/2 mouse, but it's not working. Any suggestions? Basically, i want a PS/2 mouse and a USB mouse to run at the same time.

What type of motherboard do you have and do you happen to check the specifications particularly with its onboard USB ports. Just thinking maybe you got USB 3.0 at the back and you're mouse is not compatible with it.

Hi I'm new here hope I'll do it won't USB mouse work alright I've been searching for a while now but haven't found my exact problem yet so I thought I would try it here I have an Acer Aspire laptop with windows xp SP for about years now About a year ago I started using usb mouses because I found it easier to work with After about months every mouse would stop working USB mouse won't work I tried about If I moved the usbconnection it would sometimes work again but after a while that wouldn't work anymore I always bought really cheap mouses so I just assumed it was that them falling a few times A while ago I bought an expensive mouse which worked great USB mouse won't work but that USB mouse won't work died probably cus I dropped it a few times So I bought another cheap usb mouse with a wire plugged it in and it said 'new device detected' followed by the name of the device I could move the mouse until it said 'new hardware installed' The mouse just stopped working The mouse was still 'on' the scrollpart was lit and the laser worked as well I tried a new mouse with which happened the same I then tried the mouses on a normal computer and they worked fine Until now I've been into device manager Upon installing there is a yellow exclamationmark which disappears when it says that the installation is complete the mouse isn't working though I've removed the drivers and reinstalled them but that didn't do the trick It says the drivers are up to date I can't get into f my computer has had some issues about years ago and ever since then I can't boot into save mode or even get in the f menu The usb ports are working fine usbsticks and iPod work great with them I don't get it earlier they would work fine but just stop after a few months but now they won't even work for a minute

A:USB mouse won't work

You could fiddle with this issue for weeks (as you have done now for months seemingly).

In cases like this, it is often the easiest and most time-efficient move to just copy off what you absolutely value and then reformat and reinstall.

While your comp is still working, make sure you have all the necessary drivers either on the install CD that came with it OR downloaded and saved to flash/cd.

As a side note, I never add aftermarket mouse drivers - I just use the XP defaults and the mice work great.

I don't believe this is a mouse problem. This morning my Gateway laptop was working fine. About 10 a.m. I suddenly began having problems with the mouse not working in certain programs. First it was a solitare game. Then it was in WordPerfect. Later it was in Google Earth. The solitare game still doesn't work nor does Google Earth. WordPerfect is working fine at the moment. At one point Task Manager wouldn't respond to mouse clicks.

I did not install any software. I uninstalled Zone Alarms because I had just updated it and I thought it might be the cause. That didn't help. I rebooted several times of course. I ran Ad-Aware and Spy Bot - nothing. I ran AVG virus checker - nothing.

I am out of ideas. I hope someone has some.

yesterday we ran AVG and a ton of things showed veribyte and RudlA viruses found (sp?) We thought AVG took care of it, now our cordless mouse won't work. We put new batteries in it and reset it and reloaded the program, but nothing. It just sits there and every now and then has a rainbow effect on the arrow. Also when I went to msconfig to check on it, no easy task without a mouse, all of the programs that I selectively unchecked were checked and running again. I couldn't figure out how to uncheck them so I unchecked them all. Then I got explorer error messages and some google taskbar error message. Before there is another dent in the wall from a flying mouse can someone help me out.

If you have a regular ps2 or USB mouse you can plug in, try it. If you have other Wireless devices, perhaps there is a conflict. This is really not a "security" question by itself, as you have another thread open for those. I'm going to move this to hardware.

@DrPam?, welcome to the forum. When requesting help you should always include the make/model (i.e. p6-xxxx) of the computer and/or monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications of them. This is a USB wired mouse.  Therefore, it doesn't require batteries.  Have you tried plugging it into all of the USB ports on the comuter?

Hi Chris, I've worked with two other people in the last 2 weeks on this exact issue. Its happening to 1000s of people out there and as best I have been able to determine its being caused by an automatic update. I'm going to find and post those two links that I worked on for you to look through to see what your up against. Once youve read through those entirely, let me know and I will work with you to try to resolve this issue. I will be around all day today.

Please read through both of these threads in there entirety and feel free to try any of the fixes you see there. I was able to resolve both issues but it sure wasnt easy LOL. I will monitor this thread throughout the day to see how your doing. If you resolve this issue on your own please mark this thread solved by using the quick tools feature at the top of the page.

Hi all, hope someone can help. Here goes. I have a Dell DM051 that I was using a Belkin KVM switch on. I removed the switch and connected everything back to the computer and everything appears to work fine except the mouse. When the computer starts up and gets to the windows XP log on screen, I cannot move the pointer over to my icon to select my user so that I can enter my password and continue. So, there I sit, on that blue XP log on screen, looking at the pointer that I can't move, beside the icon that I cannot select to continue. Any ideas?? And while I do appreciate all help, please don't ask if the mouse is connected or stuff like that. I've tried several ideas from diffrent mouses to removing jumpers and batteries, etc. What I need is good advice from someone who knows computers. Thanks in advance, Phil

My computer has been unusable for 3 months since the mouse refuses to move.
What in the world could be wrong?

I have purchased a new mouse - not working either.
Got a laptop but it can't do the work I need done.
I've lost so much business.

Though I've been a computer user for awhile, I'm still ignorant to the tech stuff.
Can't even tell you much more than I have Windows XP, service pack 2.

Thank you for your help.

A:Mouse won't work

For the new mouse that you purchased, is it a USB or PS/2 mouse. Basically, is the end you connect into the computer square (USB) or round (PS/2). If it is the latter, then you will have to plug it in, and restart your computer before it will work. If it's USB, generally you can plug it in, wait a minute or two for windows to install the drivers, then use it.

My personal suggestion if this doesn't work and you are losing business badly, would be to take it to a repair shop and have them look at it. It's mostly likely worth paying a $30-$50 to figure out what's wrong with it and most likely get it fixed then losing another 3 months worth of business!!

If that's not the case. Then there are a few other things you can try to get the mouse working, though they will be difficult to accomplish with just a keyboard :-/. Let us know how the above advice goes.

I have an optical mouse that I recently bought. I plug the receiver into the USB port and install the batteries, but the mouse still won't work. The package did not include any software. I was wondering if maybe they forgot to give me the software?

A:My mouse won't work

They usually do come with software, but I never use it. Windows can do it. most wireless mouse or keyboard will only require the manufacturer's drivers to operate special features.

Did you see anything in the instructions about connecting the USB plug in to the mouse? Usually there is a button on the connector you have to push and hold, then push and hold a button on the mouse, or maybe it is vice versa, depends on the brand.

Also, if you have done that, try another USB port, and try another USB device to make sure the problem is not the USB port rather than the mouse.

I tried the keyboard and mouse (also serial) and the keyboard (serial) from another computer and they wouldn't work either.

I cannot get into the BIOS settings because the keyboard won't let me push F2. It won't let me get into the boot menu because it won't let me push F10. I tried the restore disk, but it asks me to press R to restore and none of the keys work.

At first when I read this I thought you may want to try disconecting any peripherals, usb's etc. and that may solve the conflict. But since they won't work on another PC, It could be something else, could you reach the post on the other pc. Its unlikely for mouse and keyboard to be damaged like together.

When I turn it on my screen shows no error messages and looks normal.

I tested my USB using a flash drive. Usually the computer will recognize it and will ask me what to do with it (i.e. open a folder etc.). It does not recognize that I put the drive in.

A:Solved: Mouse Does Not Work...Please Help

Start by going to Control Panel and selecting the Mice category (Under Inputs). Under the Hardware Tab is a troubleshooting Wizard. That tab will also state the condition of the mouse as your OS is presently seeing it.

Another nice program to have is the AIDA32.HU Enterprise System Information program. A freebie, should be able to find it here. This is very nice for anything dealing with hardware. Does have some diagnostics.

If you can't find it, I have the download version somewhere, would just have to locate it.

ok it all started with me using imesh lite, i think that caused it. but after i opened the program, my msword got modified. when i restart comp. my hal.dll got corrupted so i had to use xp disc to repair along with some oher sys files needed to boot up comp. Afterwards my keyboard and mouse don't work. it says: This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. I have a cpu (Dell Optiplex) running windows XP Pro that I just saved from the recycle pile. It's not that old and could be a good machine. However, a service takes care of these cpus and makes them so that people can't add anything to the cpus such as more memory or new keyboards or mice. Does anyone know how to unblock something like this? I tried restore factory settings in bios but that didn't work. Please let me know if you can help.

A:Mouse and Keyboard won't work

Hi wimtalker, and welcome to BleepingComputer.

In the movie "Cool Hand Luke" there is a famous quote... "What we have here is failure to communicate". And I suspect that is part of what is happening here.

First, when you refer to a CPU, are you referring to a PC (Personal Computer)?

What service are you referring to?

Adding RAM or making any other physical changes that don't involve changes to the BIOS that the manufacturer may have locked can be made.

Would you please post the model of the computer?

I have MS Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 7000 (came with keyboard). Keyboard works (sort of -- some keys require multiple presses) but the real problem is the mouse. The system recognized it briefly, but now it doesn't work at all. I've tried: three different sets of batteries; multiple attempts at reconnecting (press button on USB dongle and button on bottom of mouse); different USB ports for dongle; uninstall and reinstall Intellipoint 6.31; rearrange office to minimize interference. No success. MSKB ( suggests massive registry edits, but I'd like to know if there's a better (easier) solution. I do not have another computer to test it on. Compter is Dell Inspiron 530, WinXP SP3. Thanks!

Just curious, have you tried plugging it into a different USB port? I've had similar trouble when using my Mouse and KB on my systems front panel ports. Flipped them to the back and they began to work. My front side panels work fine with other devices, so I never understood why this happened.

I was using my laptop and then put it to sleep. A while later, I opened the lid and my keyboard & built-in mouse aren't working. I restarted it to no avail. Device Manager says, "This device cannot start. (code 10)" when I click on the mouse in the device list, but it says the keyboard is working. I re-installed the mouse driver, also to no avail. Not even system restore (to a restore point made two days ago) worked. Kaspersky found nothing.

Hello, mehow89 and welcome to TSG.

I've taken the trouble to put your post into a certain paragraph structure, lest any reader gets as breathless as your original version sounded. And just gives up after reading the first 10 per cent.

I think your English is fairly good and should now be more easy to decipher.

Although "shouting" down keyboard and PC is rarely a solution and merely annoys the neighborhood.

But readers may now also understand that you meant "shutting down"

Please be patient for reply.

I just gave a friend of mine an older computer that hasn't been used in about 18 months. The last time it was used there were no issues. But, when I hooked it up for him neither the mouse nor the keyboard worked in the PS/2 ports. He bought a new mouse that uses a USB port and it worked. So now he is going to try a keyboard that uses USB. But, this will take up all of his USB ports and he wont be able to use his thumb drive with the computer.

So, my question is this -- Is there a way to get the PS/2 ports up and running again with out taking it in to be repaired?

Any and all help/suggestions are appreciated.

A:Keyboard & Mouse won't work

Try uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling the latest version from the manufacturers website.

When you turn the computer on boot to BIOS with the problematic kb + mouse plugged in. To boot to BIOS you usually tap F2. Does the keyboard respond in BIOS? If so then you do not have a faulty controller or keyboard, it will be a problem with the drivers or OS. To remedy you could then install a fresh OS which should sort it out for you.

does anybody have any scoop? is an active cable needed?

thank you for the help.

A:mouse does not work with 25' cable

Well, IEEE 1394 (FireWire) loses its signal after 4 1/2 meters of cable, and the same is probably true with PS/2, although not so much of a drastically short length.

I have an hp laptop running xp. Until last week, I had a microsoft mouse installed (hate the touchpad) and it worked great. Then out of the blue, It stopped working. I reinstalled drivers..still no go. Went out and bought a new mouse....same thing. My pc recognises the "mice" and installation is ok, and when choosing mouse options from the control panel, it is there, and i select it...but still no go. The touchpad still works, but neither "mice" do. Any ideas?

A:mouse won't work with laptop

No drivers are necessary for a mouse to work. Drivers provide only special functions. If you have installed drivers, remove them and try rebooting. Perhaps you selected the wrong ones if you were presented with a choice -- if you did that, it might explain the failure.

If this is an optical mouse -- does the light activate when connected?

In the device manager, is the mouse recognized under Human Interface Devices, as well as under Mice and other Pointing devices?

You should also verify whether other USB devices work from the USB port you have the mouse plugged into, assuming you are using a USB mouse -- for example a thumb drive.

Welcome to SevenForums!

-Did you tried unplug the devices, stop the computer and re-plug everything and restart the computer?
-Check the battery of each connected devices
-Does the light on the connected key still blinking?
-Run a full scan for malwares & virus
-Test on another computer if does works
-Then, if not go to the retailler ask and test the wireless/bluetooth key for an exchange.

If it's a mouse with above average capabilities, it may have specific drivers which may have become corrupt. If that's the case, rReload the disk that came with it and reinstall the software.

If it's a mouse that runs on batteries, they may need replacing.

I purchased a new mouse for my computer last night and I m boggled by it so far I have had a serial mouse previously and my new mouse a Belkin MiniScroller Optical Mouse for New work won't Win98PLUS Mouse has the ability apparently to work through a USB port or a PS port I first tried to install the mouse through the PS port Its cable is a USB cable but it also included a USB to PS adapter I looked at the adapter and three of New Mouse won't work for Win98PLUS the metal fingers that actually plug into the PS port were bent I bent these fingers back to their originally designed positions and then plugged the entire setup in My questions are such When I failed at using the mouse through the PS port I get an error saying that quot No mouse is detected If you want it is safe to plug in a serial mouse now if you want to plug a mouse into the PS port you must turn the computer off quot If you would like to recreate this error just turn your pc off unplug your mouse and turn your pc on why would the computer not read it My guess is that the adapter is bad but I want to see New Mouse won't work for Win98PLUS if it s my pc before running to get a new one So I then removed the connector and plugger the device in through my USB port The computer immediately recognized the device and installed everything as it should have Unfortunately the device still does not work I did a search for the best driver for the device and the search returned with the statement that the best driver had been found and it was already installed on my computer This brought me to my next question Why the heck won t the stupid thing work Sorry I ve been jacking with this for about hours now and my frustration is beginning to show Thanks for any help you can provide If I don t get any responses by Monday I m gonna throw it in the lake okay probly not I ll probably just return it to get a new adapter so that I can get frustrated with that one too Thanks again Billy nbsp

A:New Mouse won't work for Win98PLUS

Is this your first USB device? Do you have others that have worked before? In the bios setup, is USB support set to ENABLED?

After some time of working, my desktop doesn't respond to left/right mouse clicks.
Also my desktop icons do not highlight when I pass over them.
Can anybody help?
My OS is Windows 7 64bit

A:Mouse does not work on desktop

Welcome to the Seven Forums, kkam. Have you tested the mouse on another computer? If so is it working fine there? Does another mouse from some other computer works fine on your system?

What sort of a mouse have you got? It would have helped a lot if you had filled up your system specs in detail.

Have a home built computer which was a great machine, but now the mouse and keyboard will not work either in the usb ports or the ps-2 ports. The computer will boot up to windows xp login but not further. Help!

A:Mouse and keyboard will not work at all

sounds like windows has stuffed its drivers, boot from your XP CD and run the repair option.

My mouse was behaving erratically, and I saw that the device manager had about 5 copies of HID drivers with triangles warnings. I uninstalled one of them, and now I can't use my usb mouse or keyboard in windows. I can boot up to cd rom with BartPE and have keyboard and mouse control, and can f8 into safe mode, but then keyboard and mouse no longer work.

Is there a driver file I can copy over the corrupted version to correct this?

A:HELP! Mouse and Keyboard don't work

Uninstall all the drivers with yellow triangles beside them and reboot.

ok it all started with me using imesh lite, i think that caused it. but after i opened the program, my msword got modified. when i restart comp. my hal.dll got corrupted so i had to use xp disc to repair along with some oher sys files needed to boot up comp. Afterwards my keyboard and mouse don't work. it says: This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system. (Code 12). so i been uninstal the driver and disable it, but no use. the keyboard actually work on start-up but after windows load it stops working. Right now i have to use on-screen keyboard and usb mouse. l hope some an help me out with this. Thanks.

What you have now has a technical term for it. It's known as "A Mess"
Not your fault, really: You didn't know what to do and so you did what you thought was the right thing.

What you should have done is run anti-mallware software (Sybot S&D TX, Spyblaster, AdAware SE) or a specific iMesh removal tool. (if there is one).
(I have no idea what iMesh is, but I'm assuming its yet another peice of malware/spyware/adware junk)

But, it's too late for that. Now you've got a mess in your system registry and more than likely you also have an infected (maliciously modified) kernel.

What to do? Well, I hope you backed up your files before you did whatever it was you did, becaue everything on your os-resident drive (that is, the drive where Windows is residing) has got to be wiped out. Usualy, that's the C: drive. If there's a secondary drive (that is, a second physical hard drive, not just a second partition on the main phisical drive) it may be safe to retain that drive and you may not have to wipe it out as well.

You're goning to have to get the Hard Drive Mfgs. drive management utility. Get the version that makes you a bootable floppy, and then boot from that floppy. That will allow you to zero-sum-fill the drive (that is, write zeros to every cluster in every sector of that drive, including the Master Boot Sector.) This is more secure than simply re-formating the drive becasue it leaves no trace of any information from before the zero-sum-fill, ensuring a "virgin" drive for you to work with.
Next step: install Windows XP again. If your hardware is in good working order, this shouldn't be a problem. (asuming yiou have a valid copy of XP and still have the CD Key). If you have an WinXP SP2 Slipstream CD, youse that. Otherwise, use either Windows Update, Automatic Updates, or a SP2 install CD to take the machine to Service Pack 2. Then, get the post-sp2 updates, re-install your office software, patch the office software, stop using IE and switch to Firefox, and get whatever other software you want on your new install of XP.

And then don't take chances with untrustworthy software again, so ka?

I have a dell latitude C510/C610, xp professional sp3. I use a hi-speed multiple port USB2.0 Cardbus. my old cordless logitech mouse works fine plugged into it. I bought a microsoft wireless mobile mouse 3000. I plugged it in and it worked for about 10 minutes then it quit. I pushed the button on the stick and the mouse and it still didn't work. I deleted the logitech thinking it was interfering. didn't help. I uninstall the new mouse and reinstalled. I downloaded the recommended file, IPx86_1033_7.10.344.0, that didn't help anything either. also I checked the device manager and it says the device is working.I am at a loss here.

i have had this computer and optical mouse for a couple of years. i am at a temporary location where i have to disconnect and reconnect my computer each morning to use. everything was fine for a week or so. now my computer doesn't recognize my optical mouse. i have tried every usb port, plugging and unpugging and restarting the computer. i can't figure out what has changed (yes the red optical light is on under the mouse). is it possible the battery is weak (i am grasping at straws). it would seem to me that if the light is working, the battery is good. ????

A:optical mouse won't work

Hi Fikey,

It must be a wireless mouse (because of battery). It is possible that the battery is weak. My mouse stops working long before the red light. You could also try your mouse on another computer, if that doesn't help.

My friend has an eMachine W3050. The mouse quit working. It is a PS/2 mouse. We tried a new mouse and a USB mouse. None will work. USB mouse says "problem with this hardware". He does not have internet so there should be no viruses. I also did the reinstall to original configuration. That worked while the PC was at my house. When he got it home it didn't work.

So what can we do?
