Data error cyclic redundancy check ssd

Q: Data error cyclic redundancy check ssd

Hello all,
Windows 7 doesn't recognize my SSD drive. When I go to disk management, it shows a message to initialize it (image no.1) but when I press OK to do that, one another message appears and says: Data error cyclic redundancy check (image no.2). My computer windows doesn't show that drive and also when I went to cmd->diskpart, again it didn't show that disk to use of chkdsk /f command. How to solve the problem please?

Preferred Solution: Data error cyclic redundancy check ssd

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I could to revive that disk in diskpart using PartedMagic in boot. I've uploaded a new image from that. The remained problem here is that I can't delete it there.

Hi guys,

I have WesternDigital Blue 1TB harddrive in raw format and I cant recover data nor format it.

A:How to fix data error cyclic redundancy check

Your system specifications show a laptop.

But this seems to be an internal drive on a desktop.

If it is indeed an internal drive on a desktop, forthwith disconnect your faulty drive to prevent it keep spinning till you decide what you want to do with it.

Was it working alright in the desktop before and for how long?

When did it become RAW and for how long it remained connected after becoming RAW?

Do you want to format it now? ( I am asking this question because you tried formatting it.) I shall see your answers only tomorrow morning after 11 hours from now since it is already bedtime for me.

Hi there..

have you checked the installation disc for any scratches, dirt, smudges etc?

May also be worthwhile cleaning the lens and disc :)

I am getting a CRC Data Error when I try to copy something I burned on a CD (navigational charts 1-2 MB each is the largest). I have tried to reburn the CD and I still get the error, but it occurs at a different file location the second (3rd and 4th also) time.

I am using XP Pro, have 512 MB RAM, 2 GHz processor.

Are there any simple fixes to this problem?

Thanks.

Just like the topic title says, I have been receiving this message: Data error (cyclic redundancy check) when trying to install some software. The whole error reads:
C:\Users\Me\Downloads\ArtizenInstall_295.exe Error 23 while opening this file: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).
I've tried turning off my AV and UAC (just in case, who knows with computers) . . . I've cleaned my registry and run the disk check.
Any ideas? Let me know if I need to provide more info. Thanks, Kirk

A:Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

When seen with optical drives...that message usually indicates a problem reading the media. I would check the drive...and the media used.

If I received that message with every type of CD/DVD...I'd try cleaning the lens and/or prepare to acquire a new drive.

My pc crashed on yesterday and was unable to boot into window as it required to run chkdsk and i found a lot file record segments were unreadable or corrupted. I changed the hardisk, installed a new os and then tried to back up some important files from the crashed hardisk but some was not able to transfer as a message pop-out stating data error: (cyclic redundancy check), my questions are :

1) Can those files under the data error to be recovered?

2) I read about the cause of it but is there any way to prevent from happening?

3) Is the hardisk still can be used?

I would be very appreciated if someone could help me out with this matter...

A:Data Error: Cyclic redundancy check

The harddrive sounds to be physically faulty
Therefore the data is probably corrupted in those sectors
I don't believe the HardDrive can be used again (and if used, it will slow your computer down)

Hmm, Make backups often to external media is always a good thing to do.

Hey,
I am trying to copy a file that is split up into various achieves. When the copying process is going on I get an error cannot copy file, data error (cyclic redundancy check). I want to get this thing to work asap. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

A:Solved: Data error (Cyclic redundancy check)

A cyclic redundancy check means the computer can't read the data off the media. Typically this happens with optical media but also happens with HDD or other magnetic media once and awhile as well. If it's on a CD/DVD try cleaning the disc and the laser lens. If it's a magnetic media use check disc to repair any errors and try again. If that doesn't work then you can try a more aggressive recovery program.

I just started to get this error message.

I am running a Win98 machine and receiving the error when printing on hy HP PSC 2210 printer. I recently started to use a TRENDnet 4-Port Bus-Power USB Hub (my PC only has two USB ports) and I was having no problems printing at all until just now. I did some research and found some solutions (ie turning off the printer, unplugging the usb cable, restarting, plugging in the USB cable, turning on the printer) but that did not seem to work. When I disconnect the hub and plug the printer in directly to the USB port I can print fine....so obviously the problem is with the hub.

Any ideas and also why it did work but now causes me problems.

I guess I should go out and buy a powered USB hub, but the ones I have seen don't seem to support Win98.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

My office manager has a program she was trying to install on a Windows 7 machine. It is new. When installing, it will not finish and gives the "data error (cyclic redundancy check)" message. I have been using Vista's Back-Up and Restore facility on my Dell Inspiron 6400 for quite some time now and have encountered no problems (aside from the fact that I question the comprehensibility of it). However over the past few days I have recieved an error message along these lines whilst trying to back-up: Data error (cyclic redundancy check). (0x80070017).

After restarting the laptop, repowering the external hdd, and attempting to re-run the process numerous times with it still refusing to complete, I deleted the entire back up and proceeded to create another one, with the same eventual error. I'm just really not sure what the problem is at the moment. If anyone could shine some light on the matter I would very much appreciate it.

Hi rapchik...

are you transferring files between these two hard drives or just moving them about in one or the other?

This is usually a sign of some bad sectors on the hard drive. It may be an idea to run chkdsk on them:

- Click Start -> Run -> type:
cmd
- Click OK
- At the flashing cursor type:
chkdsk /r /f c:
- Press Enter then Y then Enter then Y to confirm again
- Now reboot and let it scan...may take 10 minutes or so

If you're having the problem on a different partition, all you need to do is change the c for another drive letter i.e chkdsk /r /f d:

Hope that helps.

p.s - It may also be an idea to think about backing up any vital data just incase your hard drive is having issues....also, you could download the manafacturer's hard drive utility tool which you can use to run some checks on the drive.

Why are you doing all of those unnecessary steps instead of just booting the Win7 installation media to delete all partitons and then create New and Format using the drive options pictured in Steps 7/8 of Clean Install Windows 7? Nothing more is needed unless troubleshooting install failure.

If you did a secure erase using DBAN that is overkill intended to overwrite data to make it unrecoverable by forensics software. It is also hard on the drive.

Try now booting the Win7 installer to create the partitions. If the error repeats run the HD maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD test, followd by Disk Check from the installer's Command Line in System Recovery Options

Hi,

I have a WD 500 GB external drive, ive been using this as my back-up for about 2 years. It was just recently, when i open my files and folders, and error pops-up "Cyclic Redundancy Check". I tried to reformat the drive but it says that it is being used by another program, it assigned a drive letter but i cannot open it. i also tried formatting it via CMD, but no luck is stays at 0% completed.

Any help or advice if i can still revive my HDD? if i can recover the files.

Thanks

I get this "cyclic redundancy check error" when I try to copy files from a DVD-RW onto my hard drive. I burnt said DVD about two years ago using Cyberlink DVD Solution Power2Go. I get this error with mulitiple DVDs, but not all of them (I've got five and I get this error with only three). Also, I get the error with some files, but not others (on the same DVD). I really can't lose these files! My guess is they were burnt wrong, but I'm really not sure. Is there any way I can recover these files?

Oh, I'm using XP SP3.

Thank you!

A:cyclic data redundancy error (drive C - os )

http://www.softwarepatch.com/tips/cyclic-redundancy.htmlWell...you may have concluded incorrectly, it's hard to say.My experience with these types of errors...usually involves an optical drive, not a hard drive. If I received this error on a hard drive, the first thing I would do is run a check of the hard drive. Initially, I would try running chkdsk /r from the Recovery Console of my Microsoft XP install CD. If that failed, I would download a hard drive diagnostic utility from the website of the hard drive manufacturer and run it, following directions provided. The first thing I would suggest...move any data on that drive which you want...to another storage device. This should be done before attempting any checks of the hard drive in question.Louis

Every time i try to back up my files to the hard drive i get the above error code showing up on data(d) and it keeps saying last back up failed. I have done a disk check and it came up with number of root causes 1. Whatever that means cause i am a 60 year old layman at this computer game. I have defraged my discs as well, but i still keep getting the same response.
So if somebody could help me with this problem in a non tech language that i can understand, it would be very much appreciated.

A:Cyclic redundancy check error code 0x80070017

Are you backing up your files to your C: drive? or another hard drive.

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > then Right click on the Command Prompt, then select Run As Administrator.

In the Command Prompt window type chkdsk /r you will need to restart your computer for chkdsk to start.

If your backups are on a different hard drive then run the Elevated Command Prompt as stated above. chkdsk X: /r ( With X being the drive letter of your second hard drive)

When Outlook 2002 begins, it displays reminders that I have setup in the calendar.

But last week it started giving me an error message when I try to dismiss the reminders:

The reminder could not be deleted. It may appear again. Outlook.pst could not be accessed. Data Error (cyclic redundancy check).
It also won't send/receive.

Do you have any suggestions or have any idea what is wrong, and how to possibly fix it?

I'm not a techie, so please explain for dummies.

Thanks so much!

A:Outlook 2002 cyclic redundancy data error

sounds like your pst file is corrupt.

Follow the steps below (take your time) to help re-create your pst file.

The instructions can be found here also (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319128)

Re-create Your Personal Folder File
1. Quit Outlook, and then start Windows Explorer.
2. Make a backup copy of your personal folder file (Outlook.pst).

Outlook.pst is usually located in the following folder:
Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Window 2000, and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0:
drive:\Documents and Settings\UserID\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (SE) and Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me):
drive:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\LocaleID
Drive is the drive letter of your boot drive, UserID is your user I.D., and LocaleID is the locale identifier (LCID) for your installation of Microsoft Office. For example, the LCID for English (United States) is 1033.
3. Rename Outlook.pst as "OLD.pst". To do so, follow these steps: a. Click Outlook.pst.
b. On the File menu, click Rename.
c. Type OLD.pst, and then press ENTER.

4. Use the Inbox Repair Tool to repair the OLD.pst personal folder file.

For additional information about the Inbox Repair Tool, click the following article numbers to view the articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
272227 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272227/) How to find and run the Inbox Repair tool in Outlook 2000
287497 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287497/) How to use the Inbox Repair Tools to recover e-mail messages in Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2003
5. Create a new personal folder file. To do this, follow these steps: a. Start Outlook.

Because you renamed the original .pst file in step 3, you receive a message that your personal folder file cannot be found. Click OK.
b. In the Create/Open Personal Folder File dialog box, type the new .pst file name (for example, NewOutlook.pst) in the File name box, and then click Open.
c. Modify the settings as necessary, click OK, and then click Yes.

6. Import data from OLD.pst to the newly created .pst. To do this, follow these steps: a. On the View menu, click Folder View.
b. On the File menu, click Import and Export.
c. Click Import from another program or file, and then click Next.
d. Click Personal Folder File (.pst), and then click Next.
e. Under File to Import, click Browse, locate and then click the OLD.pst file, and then click Next.
f. Under Select the folder to import from, click Personal Folders.
g. Click to select the Include Subfolders check box.
h. Click Finish.

7. You may see two Personal Folders in the Outlook Folder List. Right-click the one that represents the original Outlook.pst file (it does not show subfolders), and then click Close "" on the shortcut menu.
Take your time and Good Luck!

When you say older "style", do you mean the disks are actually of greater age? Disks can certainly deteriorate with age. Do the same disks give CRC errors on another computer?

The I/O error could pertain to the C: drive itself, it may not necessarily be the external HDD that's throwing up that error. You could try the alternative of creating an image with Macrium Reflect linked in my signature to see if that works.

You are screwed, drive is toast. Sorry.

You can try the 'freezer trick' if you are really desperate. Put that drive in the freezer for long enough to get everything super cold. Then take it out and hook it up immediately, you might get lucky and have a few minutes where it will work. I have never had this work, but I have read about it working.... although that was probably 10 years ago.

I don't know whether I am posting in the correct area, but forgive me if I'm not.

I have recently attempted to retrieve some files from zipped archives stored on CD's. After approximately 50% of the zip files on each disc have extracted, I am coming up against CDC errors. The discs involved were all produced at the same time, using the same software, etc.

I am wondering if the data in the remaining files is lost, or if someone knows of a way in which I can get around this error and retrieve at least some of the data.

Any help would be appreciated, even if it is just to tell me that the data is lost and the discs need to be dumped.

A:Cyclic Redundancy Check

The CRC error basically says that the file has some corruption and does not match the checksum that it should. The actual location and extent of the corruption cannot be determined.

The problem is that there is no redundant data in the zipped archive to allow the error to be corrected, as the zipping process removes such extra bulk to make the file smaller.

It sounds like a marginally readable media with that many files failing, you were probably lucky to get any back.

But as the readability is based on the "reflectivity" of the dye used in the CD, and the lasers between different drives also are not uniform, its entirely possible that the CD could be read OK on another computer or two and I would be trying that before giving up.

Some burners read scratched discs better than others. One trick that has worked for me is to use window/glass cleaner and a green scouring pad. Wipe the scratched disc in a radial motion using the pad, all the way around the disc. Wash off the cleaner and dry the disc. Try reading it once more

There was a series of 6 files that he transfered to me, but the problem is only 5 of the .rar files get transfered onto my network! When it gets to the last file, says, "ERROR: Cyclic Redundancy Check" and it stops. Is there a way to overcome this or will I have to go back to his house and redo this whole process???

By the way, I WOULD get him to burn it onto a DVD but he doesn't have, nor does he want to get a bloody DVD Burner! And the files are like 10 megs too big for a CD so I had to go to his house with my laptop and a straight through ethernet cable and transfer it directly!

I Check Cyclic Redundancy m trying to back up some stuff to an external hard drive And there are errors in movies that I have ripped because I either forget to Cyclic Redundancy Check put them back in the case or they get lost some movies and whenever I try to move the video file ripped int a AUDI TS file and a VIDEO TS file I have an error box where the title of the window in the blue bar says quot Error Copying File or Folder quot and in the window the gray part it says quot Cannot copy VTS quot Data error cyclic redundancy check quot And then I click the quot OK quot button and it stops the transfer The VTS is sometimes replaced with whatever file that cannot be transferred or that is causing the problem I used DVDShrink and DVD to back them up I am running Windows XP sp and transferring them onto a GB hard drive Can anyone help me please Thank you nbsp

A:Cyclic Redundancy Check

CRC errors mean the data actually seen is not faithfully transferred.

1- the file is actually corrupted
2- the media has errors
3- the software reading/writing the CDROM is overrunning (ie going too fast; slow it down).

Not sure if this is the correct forum or not, but maybe someone can give me an answer. I have 3 extra drives, 1 internal 250G slave, and 2 external 500G each. I get a lot of movies and TV shows for viewing on my big TV. I've downloaded these movies to my 250G slave drive, and it has worked well for 15 months now. But recently I began to get the "Cyclic Redundancy Check", Can't copy this file. Some of my files will copy, but slower than normal. But I'm puzzled about the ones that won't copy.
If someone has a suggestion about a fix, I'd greatly appreciate it.

A:Cyclic Redundancy Check

You could try and run a hard drive test software on the faulty drive. CRC errors refer to either a physical issue with the drive, or highly corrupted files. Sounds more hardware related.

Test out the drive with the appropriate software. What brand drive is it?

I recently downloaded a video and had stored it in a local disk. When I try to copy this file into a USB or any location my windows copier just hangs and says after a while "The source file cannot be read" - Cyclic Data Redundancy. I figured out that part of the file is stored in bad sector. How do I recover the file.

When I play the video, at particular time it hangs. I close it and after the my hard disk stops continuously blinking the LED I open it again and and seek more than the time it stopped.
For eg: It hanged at 22:23 mins then I would open it again and seek to 22:29 then it would play.

I could not make a copy of this file to any location.

Please help

Thanks in advance.

My computer runs on Windows XP. I am OK as a user but not great as a fundi of fixing wrong things with the computer!

I copied some information from a website into a Word document, and then saved the document into a folder on my computers hard drive. The file is only 109 Kb.

The first time I knew I had a problem was when I was backing up my C Drive to an external hard drive and the copying was aborted due to this file.

I can't open this document - error message "this file cannot be found"
I can't delete this document, or move it to another folder - error message "Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Please help! I can't afford not to back up folders and then lose all my information, gained over years of hard work, if my system crashes, or my computer is stolen etc etc.

I did a complete reformat and recovery on my HP Pavilion 6135nr Windows XP Pro Media Center Edition laptop. I am getting these "cyclic redundancy check" CRC errors while trying to copy files back to the desktop that I backed up on dvds. I have backed up files on dvd and restored them to the desktop before and never got this error...it's worse when trying to restore the pics in My Photos.

Microsoft seems to have a lot about this relating to Outlook Express files, but not to this particular problem. I exported and imported my OE messages just fine.

Does anyone know how I can correct this?

Thank you,

It only happens in Excel and only happens when saving to one specific folder. Does anyone have any ideas about the problem?

The hard drive has a bad sector under that folder?

Test the hard drive with the manufacturer-provided utililty to confirm.

The bad sectors can be marked unusable with the chkdsk utility to make Windows work around the bad areas, but you should consider repacing that drive.

A:Cannot delete QuickTime - Cyclic redundancy check

Your hard drive has damaged secotrs. A cyclic redundancy check is when your PC tries to read a sector on a HDD or CD and is unable to read it after several tries. Run a check disc with reapair to fix the sectors before deleting the bad files.

If a file is corrupt it's going to stay that way until you fix it. Moving it is not a fix.

A:cyclic redundancy check, unmountable boot volume?

Is the HD detected when you boot into BIOS setup? If not check the HD is making firm contact by reinstalling it. If that fails replace it.

If HD is detected or once it's replaced follow these steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Everything needed is provided.

If there's further problems run the hardware tests in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

I'm one of those people who always knew I should be backing up my data, but never got myself to do it! However I have now finally started to do so and am going through each of my hard drives, one by one. Unfortunately it seems that I didn't get to one of them fast enough and it appears to have failed.

The good thing is that, using Recuva, I can see many of my files, despite a file directory that seems to have become somewhat corrupted. The bad part is that when I try recovering the files, I am faced with a cyclic redundancy check. The file is a RAW one and thus I can't use the CHKDSK /R or /F solution.

I've also tried switching to a 3rd party enclosure, but that hasn't solved the problem.

Any ideas on how I can recover my data?

I was trying to copy some AVI files from a CD-RW onto my desktop.. but during the process I get a message saying "Cannot Copy File or Folder Data Error: (Clinc Redundancy Check)". I would like to know what does this mean? I thought there was something wrong with my computer, but i tried it on another computer and still had the same problem.

Is there something i can do to make that error message go away so i can copy my files successfully.

Thank you in advance.

A:Need Help -- Data error: clinc redundancy check

Did you mean "Cyclic Redundancy Check"? This is also expressed as CRC. CRC is a way for computers to verify that the data it is getting is not corrupt or tampered with. When a byte (series of 8 bits) is transmitted, it is often sent with a CRC bit tacked to the end. Based on a computation of the 1's and 0's that form the byte, the CRC bit will be a 1 or a 0. If, on the receive side, after it receives the byte with the CRC bit, it runs the same computation on the 8 bits. It then checks the CRC bit and if it does not match, you get a CRC or Cyclic Redundancy Check Error.

Hope this helps.

read error: data error (cyclical redundancy check)

also, is read error: data error (cyclical redundancy check) meaning the source or destination?? you see it throws error on the same 3 files and then freezes on the last file in view in the image

i cant open the folder and don't know if/how i could bypass the bad files and copy the rest of the folder

A:cyclic redundancy error

A CRC error is usually because of problems copying/burning a file. The first thing to try is burning at a slower speed - that usually eliminates the problem.

Hello,

I recently ran an anti-virus scan with Avast and noticed at the summary there was an error: "some files could not be checked, cyclic redundancy error". My meager tech skills tell me I should run chkdsk.

For reference the hard drive is 7 days old. If anything I did in this thread: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/989144-solved-problems-after-install.htm kills hdds let me know.

Thank you for your time.

A:Cyclic Redundancy Error

Well, chkdsk replaced 256 "bad clusters". Is there any way this is not a bad thing, or am I looking at replacing the drive?

As a side note, after the check Vista now boots much faster. Before the chkdsk it would hang on a black screen, now it just goes straight to log in.
