Preferred Solution: IE continually opens new windows upon closing

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Before doing anything if you have not already done so, you should back up all your important documents, personal data files and photos to a CD or DVD drive as some infections may render your computer unbootable during or before the disinfection process. The safest practice is not to backup any files with the following file extensions: exe, .scr, .ini, .htm, .html, .php, .asp, .xml, .zip, .rar, .cab as they may be infected. How and Where to backup your files in XP or VistaHow to Backup and Restore in Windows 7How to use Ubuntu Live CD to Backup Files from your dead Windows ComputerPlease follow these instructions: How to remove Google Redirects or the TDSS, TDL3, Alureon rootkit using TDSSKillerDouble-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. When the program opens, click the Start Scan button.Any objects found, will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options. If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure...do not change it.
Click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.<- Important!!
If 'Suspicious' objects are detected, you will be given the option to Skip or Quarantine. Skip will be the default selection. Leave it as such for now.A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt will be created and saved to the root directory (usually Local Disk C:).Copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply.-- For any files detected as 'Suspicious' (except those identified as Forged to be cured after reboot) get a second opinion by submitting to Jotti's virusscan or VirusTotal. In the "File to upload & scan" box, browse to the location of the suspicious file and submit (upload) it for scanning/analysis.Step 7 instructs you to scan your computer using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Don't forget to check for database definition updates through the program's interface (preferable method) before scanning.Malwarebytes' may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes. After completing the scan, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab .Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows the database version and your operating system.Exit Malwarebytes' when done.Note: If Malwarebytes' encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally will prevent Malwarebytes' from removing all the malware.-- Some types of malware will target Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and other security tools to keep them from running properly. If that's the case, please refer to the suggestions provided in For those having trouble running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as you may need to rename it or use RKill by Grinler.IMPORTANT NOTE: I do not recommend the routine use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons:? Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable. The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repos... Read more

A:Virus detection message continually coming up after closing popup on internet

Hi, welcome to TSF!

Download combofix.exeSave it to your desktop.
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.
Note:In case you already used Combofix previously, please delete the version you are having and redownload it again, because Combofix is being updated everyday.
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.
Do not post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt - unless I ask you to.
If your Antivirus software is detecting combofix or a part of it as a virus, please choose to ignore it as Antivirus products cannot determine the good/bad use of some softwares embedded in combofix.
_______

Please click Here to download HijackThis to your desktop.

Click the Download button. When the Trend Micro HJT install box appears, double click on the HJTInstall.exe. Click on Install.

It will be installed by default here: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis

A shortcut to the application will also be placed on your Desktop.

The program will open automatically after installation.

You can double-click the icon that was placed on the Desktop to run subsequent HijackThis scans or you can use the icon inside the folder. The folder HijackThis is where you will find the HJT logs that you save. When you use the application to remove anything, you will also find the backup copies made by HJT inside this folder.

Click on "Do a system scan and save logfile" When the log pops up in Notepad, copy and paste that file back here.

For some reason, occasionally, closing a tab in IE7 by clicking the "x" will close it and then keep opening the same tab. It just sits there opening copy after copy of the same tab.

Has anyone else had this problem, and know of a way to stop it?

Right now I when it happens I cant close Explorer without killing the process, unless I wait it out. Which could be at least 20, and as many as 70 tabs.

Stewart

A:msagent folder opens multple times after closing excel.

My guess would be damaged Office files.

I would uninstall/reinstall Office...then update it for all SPs and critical updates.

Hi My desktop decided to freeze restarts continually Windows up while I was watching a video Nothing I did unfroze the computer so I was forced to hold down the power button and force a shut down On restarting everything loads up fine as usual until the few Windows continually restarts programs I have set to quot automatically start on start-up quot eg windows messenger and skype have finished loading then it shuts itself down only to restart again The restarting will continue to loop unless I force the shut down or enter the BIOS set-up but I don't know enough to search for problems in there on my own My first port of call was the manufacturers tech-support unfortunately that didn't get very far as the PC is from MAXDATA who have now closed down I'm running Windows XP and I think SP I usually update automatically so presume it would be updated to use SP My only other thought was whether it is a virus problem as I recently switched to AVG and am not entirely sure about the program Thanks for any help you can provide Matt

A:Windows continually restarts

Hi Matt,

Try this, hit the F8 key at startup to get up the Advanced startup menu.

There, pick the "last known good configuration" option and see if that will work.

If not, try the option "don't reboot of error" or similar words. That might make it stop with a BSOD screen with an error code.

If you can boot in the Safe mode, try a System restore to an earlier date.

Hope this helps,
Mack1

I have two updates, KB3004375 and KB3031432 that have downloaded several times to my 64 bit Windows 7 machine. I have had so many updates for the last week that I am now continually checking for updates. I see multiple copies on my update history but just did a check and it shows the same two (plus two MSE updates that are a daily thing anyway) again.

A:Windows 2000 reboots continually

It may be a problem with a registry file and it is doing a memory dump. I do not think it is hardware related----but i may be wrong. Do you have a program to fix the registry? I use a program called "CleanMyPC Registry" thats really great and it makes a copy of your registry, and cleans the crap out.

Hi,

Open a command Prompt by right clicking and select 'Run as Administrator' and then at the command prompt type: chkdsk /f /r then press the enter key.
Also run the SFC /SCANNOW command. This will check and repair if necessary any critical Windows system files.
Click on Start/All programs/Accessories then
Right click on Command Prompt option and select 'Run as administrator'.
At the command prompt enter: SFC /SCANNOW

Hi, I have Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista Home Premium. All was fine until I turned laptop on this morning - message says 'Configuring updates: Stage 3 of 3 - 0% complete. Do not turn off your computer' It then shuts itself down, and the cycle begins again! Continuously for over an hour right now.
I have read loads of posts here and other places, but all the suggestions seem to assume you have some kind of access, and I dont - I can't get to the Start menu or anywhere else. I have tried rebooting in every mode option available and nothing works.
It just gives the update message, shuts itself down, and restarts itself.
Help!!

problem internet explorer 8 keeps freezing, running very slow when in the facebook,(eg, windows is not responding),allso complete freezup! very slow to move any body got an idear, please elan1948..

A:ie8 continually freezing in facebook running windows 7

Hey Elan1948,
If you find that your IE is freezing on facebook, here are some trouble-shooting steps you may try:
1. Run your anti-virus and an anti-spyware, to check for malware infections. Microsoft Security Essentials is a good freeware AV from Microsoft.
2. Clear Cache. Or else run your Junk Cleaner or CCleaner. In IE 7 or 8, click Tools > Internet options > Security > Reset all Zones to Default level
3. If still you find your IE giving problems, close it and run IE (No Add-ons). This opens up the browser without loading any add-ons, toolbars or plug-ins.
4. Run sfc /sc?annow and at the end reboot if asked for. This will replace corrupted system files if any.
If you find it running OK, then the problem is most probably caused by an addon. In that case you have two options :
- Use the manage Add-ons tool, and disable each one after the other to find out which one is causing the problem.
- In Internet Options, go to Advanced Tab and click on Reset tab. Restart IE. This step deletes all temp files, disables any add-ons, plug-ins, toolbars and also resets all changed settings to default. Although this is a quick-fix, you will have to re-install the add-ons.

I hope this helps!

Cheers,
Bryn

A:Custom built PC with Windows 8.1 continually Freezes

Have you ran a disk check on your hard drive, or used HD Tune Pro to see if it has any issues?

Also, try doing a memtest (Windows Memory Test) and do several thorough passes to check if the RAM is at fault. I had an issue come up after I built my system where it wouldn't take all 16 gigs of RAM and wouldn't boot into Windows. Something fixed it, don't remember.

If that all passes, do a system restore if you can to a month ago before you had these issues and/or run a system file checker (sfc /scannow in elevated command prompt).

Also, what browser are you using?

I just built a new computer for Win 7 professional 32 bit. I have Windows Media Player 12. It starts updating media library as soon as it opens and never finishes. If I close it, it is still a process that is running and I have to go to task manager to close that process before I can reopen the media player. It says it is updating C:\users\*****\Music. All the music is already listed there. Can someone help me with this. I have gotten so I leave it on and just minimize it, and then close the process when I am through with it. Thanks

I have a client who states they just completed adding Windows Updates. Since the updates, they rebooted their computer and logged into their business network. The login worked well, but after 10 seconds, the computer reboots itself. So, the user waits until they are prompted for a username and password, and login. Again, after 10 seconds, the computer reboots. This is an endless recurrence.

I booted the computer in SAFE MODE w/ Networking Support and I can stay connected to the network. I am able to look at my programs, but of course, not all programs will fully function in SAFE MODE. So, when I boot the computer in NORMAL MODE, I am able to log in, but then the computer reboots after 10 seconds. ?? What could be happening??

Hi,

I always use Firefox for web browsing. I just like it better than IE.

I recently re-formatted my C drive and re-installed Windows 7. Everything seemed fine but then I installed Firefox and started using it. Prior to the re-install it worked perfectly. I never had a single problem. Not once. But now it constantly crashes and I have no idea why. The system is freshly installed so shouldn't it be nice and clean? Is it possible the problem is related to the re-install?

Can anyone think of what might be causing it?

Thanks.

SJ.

After booting windows xp fine, and coming up to the desktop, the desktop is stable as well...

however when any program is launched for more than few seconds (trillian, itunes, ut2k4), the computer simply reboots without any warning

tried another HD... same problem. any ideas what could cause this?

A:Windows xp continually reboots after any program is launched for a few seconds

Is your pc overclocked? If so, downclock it a little to see if that helps. Have you run a decent virus scanner? A virus could certainly cause the problem you describe. And finally, open the case up and get rid of all dust as this can make the cpu, mobo, graphics card, and memmory overheat which could also cause the problem.

Hope that helps. Rik.

Hi,
I have a new workstation which was updating fine but has now stopped updating. it gives an error message of 800706BE.
I have disabled the third party firewall to see if that caused a problem. is there any way of re-initiating the failed updates?

A:Updates continually failing on Windows 7 (Error 800706BE)

Hi dperrott,

You can first try Windows Update troubleshooting tool by going to Start -> Control Panel -> Troubleshooting -> Fix problems with Windows Update.

If the issue persists, rename the Windows Update Temporary folders by the steps below:

1.
Click the Start Button and type in "Notepad" (without the quotation marks) in the open box and press Enter.
2.
Copy the following commands and paste them into the opened Notepad window:

net stop wuauserv
net stop Cryptsvc
ren %windir%\SoftwareDistribution sdold.old
ren %windir%\system32\catroot2 crt2old.old
net start wuauserv
net start Cryptsvc

3.
After pasting the above commands, please close the Notepad window. Then choose "Save" when you are prompted to save the file. Type "temp.bat" (without the quotation marks)
as the file name and choose Desktop from the left panel as the location.
4.
Right click the temp.bat file on Desktop and choose Run as administrator.
5.
A DOS-like window will begin processing.

Then, please restart the computer and check if we can update now.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Linda

Okay so my mouse Seemingly at random will freeze for about - seconds or so make a Windows error sound like quot on Professional & 7 freezing Continually unfreezing Mouse x64 Windows tee-dunk quot and then work for - seconds and then go Mouse on Windows 7 Professional x64 Continually freezing & unfreezing back to freezing and then wash rinse and repeat until I finally get aggravated enough to restart my computer which seems to be the only way to fix the issue although it will re-occur at some point of inconvenience most likely later When checking the mouse drives managed to get there while to mouse was freezing and unfreezing i see that it switches back and forth between quot No drivers installed for this device quot and quot This device is working properly quot as it just is continually freezing and unfreezing Seems to happen more often while playing video games however it's not too picky about screwing up my browsing experiences either and it will also happen as I'm browsing the internet or something will just get stuck in this cycle Even taking my current mouse out and plugging it into a different USB port plugging in a completely different mouse doesn't work So it's not the mouse itself I've tried un-installing and re-installing the mouse driver doesn't help Also just recently as an example it happens now indefinitely whilst playing games As playing The Elder Scrolls Oblivion it happens normally not even within minutes of game-play and I have to restart the whole computer My CPU and RAM aren't even close to being spiked up or anything like that before or during it's occurrence as well I have attempted to find the issues by searching for it online but no one seems to be having exactly the problem that I am or at least I can't seem to find it Just as well I saw one post say that a conflict was with the KB Windows update but i don't even have that particular update so I' don't know I also attempted to check to see if my driver software was up-to-date via the device manager and it says that it is in fact up-to-date Also for added information the mouse I'm currently using is the GX Gila Gaming mouse by quot Genius quot i believe However i am in doubt that the mouse itself is the problem as the Mouse Keyboard and computer itself are all very new and even with a different mouse it happens Will provide additional details as requested needed

A:Mouse on Windows 7 Professional x64 Continually freezing & unfreezing

Normally when the mouse disconnects and connects like that it is a mechanical problem: broken wire, bad USB port, defective mouse. Your tests eliminate those possibilities (you might try lightly wiggling the USB connector in all the ports to see if you can create the problem - just to check).

You could be dealing with a driver conflict. Here is what I would try:
Completely uninstall all mouse drivers and software.
Disconnect all other USB connected devices except keyboard (is the keyboard installed with drivers?)
Option: connect a standard mouse if you have one.
Go into Device Manager > expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers
Uninstall all the devices listed under that category
Restart the computer
Windows will reinstall all the devices. This will reset the USB Stack. That can clear up conflicts in some cases.
After:

If you have USB-3.0 ports you will need to reinstall those drivers afterward. Do that first.
Reconnect any other essential USB devices (printers). Try and do one thing at a time and use the PC for a while before connecting the next device.
Use the standard mouse for a while to test.
When you connect the GX mouse, see if you can run it for a while without the Genius drivers to test.
Then download the most current version of the driver and install it.
Pay close attention after each step to see if you can identify when the problem reoccurs. Hopefully it won't.

Hello everyone I was wondering if I could get some help I use Win Ultimate -bit and it continually increases RAM usage I don't my PC off very often Ultimate increases RAM continually Windows usage? 64bit 7 due to me just being impatient and not wanting to wait for the reboot process so I just leave it on However upon boot ram usage is Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit continually increases RAM usage? at about of GB This is because I have a decent amount of things running in the background After about a day and a half RAM usage without anything but normal startup Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit continually increases RAM usage? items running increases to I have tried many things and even killing some processes still leaves the ram usage very high due to the blasted SVChost exe process which I understand is necessary for the system to work but angers me because it launches itself in many instances each of which uses obscene amounts of ram SPECS AMD Phenom II t GHz x Corsair GB DDR - RAM ASUS M A Plus Motherboard Zotac Nvidia GT Video Card Windows Ultimate -bit Screenshots of running processes is attached You will notice that sidebar exe Skype Steam and Firefox are all using obscene amounts of ram When the programs are ran upon coldboot they use much less ram and their ram usage just increases continually throughout the time the pc is on Same with SVChost exe TL DR - How do I decrease ram usage so it doesn't continually increase upon the PC being on All help is greatly appreciated

A:Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit continually increases RAM usage?

Why do you care what RAM it uses? That is what the RAM is there for, there is nothing to be gained by trying to force Windows to use less.

Some programs suffer from memory leaks. This keeps on increasing the size of RAM they use. All you can do is restart the machine, or use some tricks as a not very good workaround.

A:Can't open any applications, Windows Secutiry Alert continually popping up.

Steve......sounds like you're in dire straits. Bad BAD time to be in the doghouse! How much time do we have????Boot into Safe Mode with Networking. If you can navigate around, then try this:Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Download Link 1Download Link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
For instructions with screenshots, please refer to the How to use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Guide. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. Thanks, tea

I recently purchased a wireless router and we have three laptops and a desktop using it. All other stay connected except my notebook which has windows 7. I also recently downloaded skype to talk to family overseas. Almost every time I am having a conversation, I suddenly lose the connection. However, I lose a connection at other times also. Skype doesn't have to be running for it to lose the connection. There seems to be no ryhme or reason for this. I ran a scan on my virus protection, but it reveals no threats. I am not so computer savvy either, only the basics. Can someone help please?

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver--from the laptop manufacturer if an integrated adapter; else from the wireless card's manufacturer.

A:BSOD when resizing/closing World of Warcraft, also when closing Chrome

Hi Haxiel.

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any disc cleanup tool before you upload another zip.

I installed Windows on a fresh machine today and have already run into an annoying bug The only software I have installed on top of default Windows is Chrome Steam and Sublime Text none of which as far as I know ever care about removable drives I'll plug my phone in to charge via USB and will get the drive mounted alert then the drive unmounted alert then the drive mounted alert etc in a perpetual cycle If I go to the My Computer display I see the two partitions on my phone constantly appearing and disappearing The phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note N running Android and has never had this problem before nor has it now with other computers I've tried Windows mounts alerts. endless drive, my causing removable unmounts and continually I don't think it's a USB problem because I've plugged an external DVD-RW drive into the same port and used it just fine I unfortunately don't have Windows continually mounts and unmounts my removable drive, causing endless alerts. any other flash drives or phones to test with right now I googled the problem but didn't find any relevant results so I thought I'd ask if anyone has seen this bug before or knows what could potentially cause it

A:Windows continually mounts and unmounts my removable drive, causing endless alerts.

1. Is it in a usb port with the lightning bolt symbol as that is the charging port as well that will remain powered when the laptop is sleeping or indeed shut down - if you configure the port for charging from the battery

2. Although that is not the problem in this case - it is worthy of mention in view of the fact that you wish to use it for charging purposes

3. I think the issue will be as described here
Help! After installing Windows 8.1, my USB drive disappears or file transfers stop unexpectedly? - Microsoft Windows USB Core Team Blog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

4. In addition to that have you updated 8.1 as depending on how you installed it - an update to 8.1 addressed amongst many other issues the problem of usb devices continually entering suspend mode

I removed the drive and set it up as an external drive and scanned it with SuperAntiSpyWare, AVG and MalWarebytes Antimalware. All found some trojans and viruses, apparently removing them all. However, I still cannot access his profile or the administrator profile--all report access denied.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tom

A:Windows continually restarts/Documents & Settings user profile access denied

Hi:

I also tried booting up with an Ubuntu boot cd and I still couldn't access either the administrator or the user profile. Any ideas?

A:Slow browser, IE closing, Outlook and Yahoo closing

Hi Elise,
thank you. I ended up getting rid of PC Tools Internet Security and switching to AVG Basic Free. I think most of the major problems went away.
Yahoo has stayed up, Outlook has stayed up, browser seems to work quickly, facebook didn't have floating text and pictures anymore, was able to do some posting, sent some large emails. But, and not exactly sure, IE has frozen up, but not as often. The dds program you had me run this morning froze and I had to do a hard shut off, task mgr didn't respond and the weirdest thing of all, the clock stopped. Can't say I have ever seen that. So I am not sure what exactly is going on, if it really is malware or some setting is messed up. I wasn't able to run video on a site last night. Major improvement since I got rid of PC tools, but not quite right. Sorry, nontechie.

Obvious to anyone. You have three malware apps running live at the same time. You have Avast, Kaspersky, and AVG.

You need to remove them all and install Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST.

If you continue to crash even after removing them upload the DMP file as you have old drivers that need updating.

A:Easylifeapp Search opens as the second tab when Chrome opens

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Button, select Immediate Notification, and click on Proceed. This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer. NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions. These are the programs I would like you to run next, if you have any problems with these just skip it and run the next one.-Security Check-Download Security Check by screen317 from here.Save it to your Desktop.Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.-AdwCleaner-Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.Click on Delete.Confirm each time with Ok.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer. You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.--RogueKiller-- Download & SAVE to your Desktop RogueKiller or from here
Quit all programs that you may have started. Please disconnect any USB or external drives from the computer before you run this scan! For Vista or Windows 7, right-click and select "Run as Administrator to start"For Windows XP, double-click to start. Wait until Prescan has finished ... Then Click on "Scan" button Wait until the Status box shows "Scan Finished"click on "delete" Wait until the Status box shows "Deleting Finished" Click on "Report" and copy/paste the content of the Notepad into your next reply. The log should be found in RKreport[1].txt on your DesktopExit/Close RogueKiller+Gringo

Hi Recently Windows has been hanging a little after closing Firefox and or Windows Live Mail For example if I close Firefox or WM Windows Mail and click on the Start button or anything for that matter Windows will hang maybe seconds before it loads it It didn t used to do this I ve ran anti virus spyware programs Which returned no real threats and Ccleaner I ve defragmented and ran check disk too so my files should be clean and in order for quick access I actually recently had to reinstall Windows XP bit so it s a pretty fresh install As far as I know the drivers and whatnot should be up-to-date too As for the game it s particulary games. a or lag after little Firefox and Windows hangs XP Windows Mail closing only one as I notice lags in a certain way that never had before It s America s Army and every so often I will get this lag that will last for a few seconds and just go away It will make the game real sluggish but only for about or so seconds but gets quite annoying as Windows XP hangs a little after closing Firefox or Windows Mail and lag games. this didn t used to happen before I ve tried system restore to go back to a point where I didn t think it had been doing this but none of the restore points were available for some reason and the one it did let me restore to didn t help I don t notice any processes running that look suspicious or that shouldn t be running I ve also noticed the past few times I boot up and while loading windows my mouse will freeze for just a second which is also not normal I do have my CPU ram and video card over clocked but I know this isn t the reason for my problems since they ve been like that for quite some time and I ve ran Prime for long periods of time without problems I did recently increase my Pagefile size in windows to MB from the default Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing these little hangs after closing Firefox Windows Live Mail and the reoccuring lag in the game Because I have a feeling the two problems are connected in some way Your advice and suggestions would be appreciated Thanks Hijackthis log file Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v Scan saved at PM on Platform Windows XP SP WinNT MSIE Internet Explorer v Boot mode Normal Running processes C WINDOWS System smss exe C WINDOWS system winlogon exe C WINDOWS system services exe C WINDOWS system lsass exe C WINDOWS system Ati evxx exe C WINDOWS system svchost exe C WINDOWS System svchost exe C WINDOWS system Ati evxx exe C WINDOWS system spoolsv exe C WINDOWS Explorer EXE C Program Files APC APC PowerChute Personal Edition mainserv exe C PROGRA AVG AVG avgwdsvc exe C Program Files Galleon bin Wrapper exe C Program Files Common Files LightScribe LSSrvc exe C WINDOWS system PnkBstrA exe C PROGRA AVG AVG avgrsx exe C WINDOWS system java exe C PROGRA AVG AVG avgemc exe C WINDOWS system ctfmon exe C Program Files Winamp winampa exe C WINDOWS SOUNDMAN EXE C PROGRA AVG AVG avgtray exe C Program Files Common Files InstallShield UpdateService issch exe C WINDOWS System DLA DLACTRLW EXE C Program Files ATI Technologies ATI ACE Core-Static MOM exe C Program Files Yahoo Messenger YahooMessenger exe C Program Files ATITool ATITool exe C Program Files ATI Technologies ATI ACE Core-Static ccc exe C Program Files APC APC PowerChute Personal Edition apcsystray exe C Program Files Winamp winamp exe C Program Files Mozilla Firefox firefox exe C Program Files Trend Micro HijackThis HijackThis exe R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Default Page URL http go microsoft com fwlink LinkId R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Default Search URL http go microsoft com fwlink LinkId R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Search Page http go microsoft com fwlink LinkId R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Start Page http go microsoft com fwlink LinkId O - BHO no name - D -C F - efb- B - ECA - no file O - BHO AcroIEHelperStub - DF C-E AD- -A -FA C EBDC - C Program Files Common Files Adobe Acro... A:Windows XP hangs a little after closing Firefox or Windows Mail and lag games.

A little update...

I ran Advance WindowsCare V2 Peronal and let it "clean and fix" everything but I still get the delay/lag after closing almost any program. For instance, I opened up Windows defrag utility, closed it and tried clocking on start and it didn't open for about 3 or 4 seconds. I don't know what's causing this but it will also slow my game mention above down like I have something else using a lot of CPU power or something for a few seconds...and this happens in the game quite often...I'd say it does it at least once every minute.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? It's very annoying and I would hate to have to reinstall Windows since I just literally got everything reinstalled and copied back over when this problem started occurring. If you need any more info or logs, let me know. Thanks.

I have several protective programs running..
like "Adware, Fix It 5,SpywareStopper"
but I haven't found any viruses...

When I run SpyBot, it comes up with about 23-25 entries AND I stall when I get to create a restore point. After a lon---g period of time the (not responding)
goes on.

Another problem is that WinRAR opens but closes unexpectedly...

Are these problems possibly related or do I have different issues???

Thanks for any help!

http://forums.techguy.org/t110854.html Follow this link to Rollin Rog Security Tools It is hard to tell from your report exactly what spy ware programs you are running . Scroll down the page to Parasitic , Download Ad-Aware SE , Spy Bot Search and Destroy , Spy Ware Blaster . Setup and update according to the tutourials. Go to Panda Active Scan or other online virus scanner and run a scan . If you do not have an anti virus program aboard go to Grisoft AVG and download the personal free edition . Use these programs only for now and shut down any other spyware / malware programs you mayhave running . After using the programs from Rollin Rog Security Tools come back and let us know how things are now running .

A:Windows update continually "checking for updates"

I finally got it to work. I had to go into Services and stop/restart both Windows Update and Windows Module Installer. Then launch windows update again and it showed the updates.

They have to be installed 1 at a time. I tried to do 5 at once when it seemed things were working properly again and Windows took that to mean I wanted all updates installed. Of course it failed again with the "failure to configure updates" and I
was back at square one.

To get into services just hit the windows key and R at the same time. Type services.msc then hit enter. I also set both the Update and Installer to manual. Not sure if that had anything to do with making it work.

Windows continually attempts to install MS Money 2002 any time I navigate via Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer. I saw an earlier thread where the same thing happened upon startup but that's not happening with me. I already have MS Money 2002 installed and it's been working fine until 2 January, when the MS Money folder was modified - albeit not by me. I ran a recent version of Norton Anti-Virus & some Spyware programs, but nothing was found.

Would appreciate any help.

Hi so I ve had closing! Windows keep this problem for a while now and I m finally getting sick of it My programs and windows will randomly close without warning and without being considered a crash when I try to access a file program or internet page with a certain word in the title The key word that seems to close things Windows keep closing! seems to be Windows keep closing! the word quot download quot When I try to open a program with the word in the title it closes If I try to open my Downloads file it closes the explorer window If I try to open an internet page with the word in the URL it will close the tab almost instantly The only other thing of note that has also been affected seems to be the main Control Panel The one where you can access all the little sub-categories which themselves work fine which closes on its own aswell My computer is an HP laptop whose model I forget and runs Windows Home Basic I inherited this computer from a relatives business who bought it and relied on an employee to use it though the employee did not know what they were doing have the time and installed countless useless web applications like toolbars and such most of which I had to go through the pain-staking task of removing one-by-one And I have no doubt there are still some in there that don t show up in the remove and uninstall page Any help would be greatly appreciated Hope you can help me and my thanks in advance nbsp

This is happening to my roommate's laptop, and it's quite annoying..

When she goes into some links, the page loads, and it closes right before she can see its content.

She's using WinXp.

I tried msconfig, same thing.

This has already happened to a guy, and he posted it in 2003, no one really helped him..

I hope someone can help me (her).

A:IE windows closing by themselves

A few things to try: run an anti virus scan; download/install/run AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy (both available at Download.com); reinstall Internet Explorer or...

If these do not help another possibility...
Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. The result.txt file will open up in Notepad. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. We do not need the original hijackthis.log (unless we ask for it). Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Post the log in the HighJackThis Log Help forum

Hello,
I'm having problems with keeping folders open on my computer. Since Im not very technical I'll just explain the process and problem.
I wish to access a video file (.avi) on my computer so i open up my comp, open the required drive, and select the appropriate folder. When in the folder sometimes the window displaying the files will shut down after one or two seconds displaying the the message that windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close (sometimes this only happens after clicking on an actual file, depends on the folder.) I'm not sure why or if its a virus of some sort (I have an up-to-date version of Norton protection centre which doesn't detect anything), any help would be much appreciated because its becoming quite an annoyance not being able to access files.
(the files worked fine before so i know its not because of them.)
Thanks in advance.

I have been having problems for a long time having windows shutting down when I access a site. For example, if I go to a site and a small window pops up with some kind of info regarding the site and it then closes, then the original window also closes. Can someone please help me solve this? Is this a common problem with VISTA, or is it just on my computer? Many thanks!

Hi
I have recently had a lot of pc problems with processes using 100% cpu and runtime errors. I took my pc to my local repair shop and it ended up that they completely wiped my pc and reinstalled windows xp home.
I use the mozy online backup service so thankfully most of my files are safe and I have restored them.

Everytime I try to go into "my pictures" where I store all my photographs, I get the error message "To help protect your computer, windows have closed this program. Name: Windows explorer"

Is there anything I can do to prevent this happening?

Thanks

Ian

Whenever I open a certain folder on one of my external hard drives, a message pops up saying "windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close". The folder is one of several, all containing avi files, opening any of the other folders doesn't cause this problem. If I ignore the message (ie don't click send/don't send report) then I can usually use the folder and files within as normal, but if I click, then any windows of any drives I had open all close. I used flash disinfector but the problem remains. Please help! Thank you!

A:Drive windows closing!

This more than likely is NOT a malware issue. What is the Operating System you have running? In the error message, click the click here link at the bottom of the message box and what dos it say?

Using windows 2000. I keep getting the following error:

"iexplore.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows"

Doesn't seem to matter where I surf to it just pops up and closes my window. Very aggravating.

Any ideas please?

Update: I've discovered that the problem lies in the file called ntdll.dll. I cannot simply delete it and replace it unfortunately. I have recently done a reformat and clean install of windows. Got all IE and windows security updates. I have no idea what could be causing the problem but it seems to be getting worse as I use the computer.

A:Windows Explorer keeps closing

Hi ecmcd, welcome to TSF..

I've had a look at your log and you have some serious issues which need dealing with...however, this section of the forum is not the correct place to seek help.

Please read through this thread as it details the '5 Step Process' which we would like you to take so that we can be in a better position to assist you. Follow the instructions as best you can. If you have any problems with any of the steps, note down some details on the problem and go to the next step. On completion, you should have some log files which we would like you to attach to a new thread and post here, be sure to add as much information as possible regarding the problems you're having and any issues you may encounter when following the '5 Step Process'

Hello

Apologies if this is in the wrong section. This question may be stupid but here goes... Say I have 3 or 4 windows open in Outlook for example in Windows 10, when I minimise or close one window I should automatically view the one behind it once that isn't minimised but when I do this it brings me to the Desktop every time rather than another window I want to view. Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks

Lula
