Preferred Solution: Help: Random Black Login Screen, Google link 'Jump' & Random Freezes.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Random freezes during boot process before login (black screen)

SSD Troubleshooting:Despite your statement that it is probably not an SSD issue, it does sound like the SSD may be disappearing from the system. Make sure the following are up to date:SSD firmware
BIOS Version
Chipset Drivers
Hard disk controller drivers/SATA drivers
If you have a Marvell IDE ATA/ATAPI device, make sure the drivers are up to date from the Intel site or Marvell site and not from your motherboard/vendor support site.

Try doing a power cycle of the SSD. The following steps should be carried out and take ~1 hour to complete.Power off the system.
Remove all power supplies (ac adapter then battery for laptop, ac adapter for desktop)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and drain all components of power.
Reconnect all power supplies (battery then ac adapter for laptop, ac adapter for desktop)
Turn on the system and enter the BIOS (see your manual for the steps to enter the BIOS)
Let the computer remain in the BIOS for 20 minutes.
Follow steps 1-3 and physically remove the SSD from the system by disconnecting the cables for a desktop or disconnecting the drive from the junction for a laptop.
Leave the drive disconnected for 30 seconds to let all power drain from it.
Replace the drive connection(s) and then do steps 4-8 again.
Repeat steps 1-4.
Start your computer normally and run Windows.

The above steps were a result of: Why did my SSD "disappear" from my system? - Crucial Community

While that may not be your drive, a power cycle should be the same on all SSD drives. See how the system responds after the SSD power cycle.

I own a Gateway NV52, and the issue with locking up began after I upgraded to Win7. After reloading the factory default of Vista on this, the laptop keeps randomly locking up and then going to a blank black screen.

I've gone to other threads and tried running MemTest and Vista's Memory Diagnostic and they both came up with nothing. I've also seen that other posters have attached dump files and other generated information from the computer to help solve their issues, but I don't know where to find these files to even get started. Can anyone help? What other information do I need to give to get started on the right track?

A:Random Black Screen Freeze, not after login

I would first do a system file check.

System Files - SFC Command
Tutorial thanks to Brink

Then you can view any error messages and see what they mean from this Microsoft site.

How to analyze the log file entries that the Microsoft Windows Resource Checker (SFC.exe) program generates in Windows Vista

If errors are found run the test again as it sometimes takes about 3 passes to get it all fixed. Sometimes even that fails to repair it but post back with results and we will take it from there.

Hi guys I really could use some help here I'm currently running Windows on my acer laptop which I've had for many years A few days ago the laptop decided to randomly restart itself I believe after getting a blue screen error saying there has been a problem and the system needs to restart and ever since then I've had nothing but problems and I think it was after my computer updated itself to The first problem was after logging in I could see my desktop background but none of my icons I solved this by right clicking and selecting view icons but they kept appearing huge and then disappearing again Then after restarting again and after logging in the screen would just go black Sometimes I was able to see the mouse and start the task manager sometimes I couldn't do anything So after trying multiple times of restarting I restarted in safe mode and uninstalled all of the previous windows updates that had been installed on the day that the problems started and stopped it from automatically updating itself this reverted it back to windows After that the laptop was fine for a day but again after restarting it's going crazy again Sometimes I get the black screen sometimes the system restarts itself randomly I've tried everything from disabling the display adapter and generic non-pnp monitor thinking it was a graphics issue the monitor had a triangle with an exclamation point in it next to it but Black login, downs, problem? be shut update random the may screen after this only worked for a short time before the black screen came back so I've enabled the display adapter back but not the monitor Both have the latest versions installed I ran the sfc scannow prompt and looked at the log this is Black screen after login, random shut downs, update may be the problem? what stood out to me - - Info CSI SR Verify complete - - Info CSI SR Verifying x components - - Info CSI SR Beginning Verify and Repair transaction - - Info CSI SR Cannot repair member file l ActionCenterCPL dll of Microsoft-Windows-HealthCenterCPL Version pA PROCESSOR ARCHITECTURE AMD Culture neutral VersionScope nonSxS PublicKeyToken l b bf ad e Type neutral TypeName neutral PublicKey neutral in the store file is missing - - Info CSI SR Cannot repair member file l ActionCenter dll of Microsoft-Windows-HealthCenter Version pA PROCESSOR ARCHITECTURE AMD Culture neutral VersionScope nonSxS PublicKeyToken l b bf ad e Type neutral TypeName neutral PublicKey neutral in the store file is missing - - Info CSI DIRSD Black screen after login, random shut downs, update may be the problem? This is driving me crazy.

Right after I boot my laptop, the screen flashes randomly.

Also something is stealing focus from what I am working on to something else.

Then it likes to suddenly go to a grey screen. I have to manually reboot.

If that is not enough, it like to just reboot.

Scanned with my AVG and Kaspersky, nothing found. Tried TrendMicro House Call, nothing. Dr. Web, nothing.

All drivers are up to date.

I have run it in the safe mode for about an hour with no problems. No new software installed recently. I went to restore and it was only dated from the previous day, so no help there.

I would prefer not to Nuke and pave, but if that what I need to do, I can.

Any thoughts, theories, explosives you can recommend for this?

I await with enlarging piles of hair as I pull it out.
Roger

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan/rootkit.

This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, log keystrokes, steal critical system information, and download and execute files without your knowledge.

If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Please refer to Microsoft's Online Safety article for tips on creating a strong password.

Do not change passwords or do any transactions from the infected computer until it has been cleaned.

------------------------------------------------------

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
Download Mirror #1
Download Mirror #2Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it. (Vista/Win7 users, right-click > Run as Administrator)
Copy/paste the contents of the following codebox into the main textfield:

Code:
:filefind
volsnap.sys

Click the Look button to start the scan.
Please be patient, as it may take a while.
When finished, a Notepad file will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

A:Random Sounds and Random "lock computer and go to login screen"

Issue 2 has been resolved.

Appears to simply have been something corrupted in configuration.

Resolution:

1. Changed power plan
2. Activated a screen saver
3. Allowed screen saver to start
4. Changed screen saver back to "none"
5. Changed power plan back

I'm having these random freezes and I cant figure out what causes them. So I don't really have much info.
It happens about 3-4 hours after i restart the computer, sometimes faster.

The BSOD also happens randomly(not every time) when i try to login after restarting the computer.

I've included info from the Diagnostics tool as instructed.

Thanks in advance for any help and answers!

Hello.Let's try this. Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version 2.3.2.2 of the tool.Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it.To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). If you do not see the file extension, please refer to How to change the file extension.Click the Start Scan button.Do not use the computer during the scanIf the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt (i.e. TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_27.07.2010_09.o7.26_log.txt) will be created and saved to the root directory (usually Local Disk C:).Copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply.~BladeIn your next reply, please include the following:TDSSKiller Log

Hi Guys, Thanks for your help in advance.

Sometimes when I click onto a link from a google search ( both in firefox and IE) I can be taken to a totally random website which has nothing to do with the origanal search. This probably happens on 1/2 of the google search results I click on.

To counteract this I have tried

Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool
Avira Antivir
AVG anti virus.

none of these seems to have worked

any suggestions?

Hello and welcome please run these next. If you have Spybot installed temporarily disable it.Next run ATF:Note: On Vista, "Windows Temp" is disabled. To empty "Windows Temp" ATF-Cleaner must be "Run as an Administrator".Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune & save it to your desktop.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All.Click the Empty Selected button. If you use Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose: Select AllClick the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt. If you use Opera browser click Opera at the top and choose: Select AllClick the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):NOTE: Before saving MBAM please rename it to zztoy.exe....now save it to your desktop. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Hi everyone, every time I use google or yahoo to search for something, all the results redirect me to another search engine. This probably just started happening a couple days ago and I hope it's not too late to fix it.

But before this started happening my SuperAntiSpyWare program kept crashing at start up so I uninstalled that. Then I tried running MBAM, but after double clicking it, nothing happens. So I uninstalled MBAM and re-downloaded it. I tried running the install but nothing happened.

One last thing, every time I tried to go to this website it would say 'Failed to connect'. But clearly it's not the website.

I hope this isn't too many errors at once, I just thought they all might be related to one kind of problem.

This is starting to get really annoying so any help would be great.

Thanks.

Hi A few months ago I did something pretty stupid in hindsight I should say and downloaded an application that promised to spoof IP addresses I wanted to listen to Pandora again you see and I can't anymore from the UK Anyway it seemed to work sort of OK but very soon afterwards my gmail account was compromised and a spam mail redirects; computer random and Google link freeze BSOD was sent out from my account to my contacts list This was pretty alarming for me but I ran a computer scan which located a number of infections and cleaned up my PC or so I thought and then uninstalled the dodgy application Things sort of seemed ok but then I started to notice the every once in a while I would click on a link from Google and I would go to a completely different site quite often Myspace I also began to notice that sometimes when I logged on to Windows my Virgin PCGuard virus spyware checked provided by my ISP would run but then after this happened everything would freeze and I couldn't click on any icons or anything Gradually both these problems Google link redirects; random computer freeze and BSOD have become worse over time so that they are now unbearable and I can't ignore them anymore Quite often now when I restart my laptop it doesn't start up properly it blue screens on me and then I have to start it up in safe mode and run a scan delete the spyware that it finds and then it starts up properly And then it seems to be ok for a short while but then the problems come back again and the cycle continues And the google links redirecting is ubiquitous But I can't seem to spot any particular pattern or anything systematic So I started looking around on the internet and I realised quite quickly after reading sites like this that I have some kind Google link redirects; random computer freeze and BSOD of malware problem I tried to download Windows Defender but I can't get onto windows download com same with Paretologic and some of the other free spyware tools don't find anything So I thought I would come to you guys for some help Thanks so much in advance for Google link redirects; random computer freeze and BSOD anything you can tell me I attach and enclose the files as detailed in your sticky instructions Looking forward to hearing from you and my apologies for adding to your workload DDS Ver - - - NTFSx Run by Dike at on Internet Explorer BrowserJavaVersion Microsoft Windows XP Professional GMT AV PCguard Anti-Virus On-access scanning disabled Updated B A BD - - -AEA -C BB B FW PCguard Firewall disabled BF -D - EC -ADAE-A F DFC A Running Processes C WINDOWS system svchost -k DcomLaunch svchost exe C WINDOWS System svchost exe -k netsvcs C Program Files Virgin Broadband PCguard Fws exe svchost exe svchost exe C WINDOWS system spoolsv exe C WINDOWS Explorer EXE C WINDOWS system ctfmon exe C Program Files Common Files Nero Lib NMIndexStoreSvr exe svchost exe C Program Files Virgin Broadband Wireless AffinegyService exe C Program Files Common Files Apple Mobile Device Support bin AppleMobileDeviceService exe C Program Files Bonjour mDNSResponder exe C Program Files WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software bin btwdins exe C Program Files Common Files Authentium AntiVirus dvpapi exe C Program Files CA PPRT bin ITMRTSVC exe C Program Files Java jre bin jqs exe C Program Files Kontiki KService exe C Program Files Common Files LightScribe LSSrvc exe C Program Files Nero Nero Nero BackItUp NBService exe C Program Files Raxco PerfectDisk PDAgent exe C Program Files CyberLink Shared Files RichVideo exe C Program Files WinPcap rpcapd exe C Program Files samsung Samsung Network Manager SNMWLANService exe C Program Files SRS Labs WOWXT and TSXT Driver SRS PostInstaller exe C WINDOWS system svchost exe -k imgsvc C Program Files Common Files Nero Lib NMIndexingService exe C Program Files Virgin Broadband PCguard rpsupdaterR exe C Program Files iPod bin iPodService exe C WINDOWS System svchost exe -k HTTPFilter C Program Files Internet Explorer iexplore exe C WINDOWS ... Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate.

Please stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms seemingly abate.

Kindly follow my instructions and please do no fixing on your own or running of scanners unless requested by a helper.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am sorry to inform you that one or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.

If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before beginning the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix.

It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Download Combofix from any of the links below. You must rename it before saving it. Save it to your desktop.

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. You can find instructions HERE.

Double click on Combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Mark

A few pre-lim questions. Is this a desktop or laptop? What it the actual make and model number? Looking at make and model in your post and doing a google search, it comes back as both desktop and notebook..very odd. Does the PC have onbaord graphics or an add on GPU if a desktop? Are you sure you have the latest driver for the GPU whether it be onboard or add on card?

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Button, select Immediate Notification, and click on Proceed. This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer. NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions. These are the programs I would like you to run next, if you have any problems with these just skip it and run the next one.-Security Check-Download Security Check by screen317 from here.Save it to your Desktop.Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.-AdwCleaner-Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.Click on Delete.Confirm each time with Ok.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer. You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.--RogueKiller-- Download & SAVE to your Desktop RogueKiller or from here
Quit all programs that you may have started. Please disconnect any USB or external drives from the computer before you run this scan! For Vista or Windows 7, right-click and select "Run as Administrator to start"For Windows XP, double-click to start. Wait until Prescan has finished ... Then Click on "Scan" button Wait until the Status box shows "Scan Finished"click on "delete" Wait until the Status box shows "Deleting Finished" Click on "Report" and copy/paste the content of the Notepad into your next reply. The log should be found in RKreport[1].txt on your DesktopExit/Close RogueKiller+Gringo

ok this is like the 4th problem with my computer i have posted here, i fix one thing on this computer and another pops up..

totally random intervals, but approximately once every minute or so, my screen flashes black, for like 1/2 of a second. it looks as if it turned off and turned back on, it does this using internet or playing a game or whatever else you can think of, umm ok it just did it and my comp seemed to freeze for 2 seconds afterwards.... its done it 3 times so far while typing this post. how do i stop this ???

A:random black screen

Start by trying another monitor. If it still happens, then try a different video card. Most likely it's one of those two. Maybe your video card is overheating... Try lowering your refresh rate as well. To do that, right click on the desktop, go to properties, then settings..then advanced, then monitor. try that for now.

Hello Techspot community!

I recently reinstalled Windows Vista on my Dell Inspiron 1721 Notebook. During the installation, I completely cleared the C Drive and kept the recovery drive and went on with normal reinstallation.

After this, I installed World of Warcraft including the new expansion Wrath of the Lich King.

Now, my problem is that when I am playing World of Warcraft, my computer monitor randomly goes black. It wont allow me to hit the power button to put it into sleep mode. It only allows me to hold the power button in and completely shut off and reboot the computer.

I am not sure at all what the problem is. To my knowing, I am completely up to date on all of my drivers and such, but I am just not sure what is causing the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I installed Windows 7 Home Professional today. It has crashed twice. Both times it was while I was using Adobe After Effects (maybe coincidence?). The screen goes all black while I am using my computer, and absolutely nothing will wake it back up. My power light is still on, and my battery is not dead. The only way to get back on is to power it off and restart it. I've lost quite a bit of work so any help is appreciated.

Mucho Thanks!

A:Random Black Screen

Is there anything significant being logged at the time in either the system or the application event log (run EVENTVWR)?

Are there any DMP files in \Windows\Minidump? If so, can you please move them to another location on your system, zip them up, and upload here.

If the answer to both questions above is "no", then there's not a lot to go on. As a suggestion, make sure your BIOS and video, NIC, chipset... drivers are all up-to-date. If the problem is caused by software issues, it'll be either the BIOS or a buggy driver. Updates may fix the issue.

Intel i5 2500k With Coolermaster GeminII S

MSI Afterburner and HWINFO64 (for check temps and usage % in games)

and that is..

also i check the event log and all errors are "Kernel Power 41 (63)"

A:Random Black Screen

Kernel Power 41 is "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first"
Probably is from you having to shut the power off to restart it.

Lets get a look at the temps and voltages under load give us a screen shot of the Hardware Monitor window.

D/L and run Hardware Monitor do something intense like a virus scan or gaming for a bit, Alt+Tab back to HWM expand all the trees and use the Win7 snipping tool to grab a screen shot of the HWM window, post the screen shot using the paperclip button in the advanced message box(Go Advanced button).

I've just built my new PC. I was having some problems with Win7 installation because it kept black screening, but somehow got past it. But it now seems it moved onto my PC. It just randomly happens. I attempt to turn on my PC, but knowing I only have limited time (5-15 minutes until my monitor black screens, PC still running, so I have to restart my whole PC just to get it started again). Please help! I just built the PC yesterday, and installed Win7 yesterday also. But I tried it out today, and this happened.

A:Random Black Screen on New PC

Give us some more details on the issue and what you have tried to resolve it.

I would start with checking temps of the machine from boot until issues to see if you can rule that out
You could run furmark or similar to stress test the gfx and/or uninstall-reinstall gfx drivers or roll back to an older driver although if the machine was black screening during installation ie outside of windows environment then it wont be drivers and is more likely to be a hardware issue

Check event viewer/windows logs for any repeat errors or entries leading up to problem
May be worth manually getting a msinfo32 file from your machine and uploading to us to have a look we may be able to get some info from this
Start>msinfo32>enter then save and upload

Try booting into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key when first starting the computer. See if there's any change. If you aren't having the problem in Safe Mode, try updating your nVidia drivers. They constantly have new drivers available.

You could also try lowering your graphics acceleration. Right click on your desktop, go to Properties>>Settings>>Advanced>>Troubleshoot.

I'm having an issue with this laptop. The screen will suddenly go black and doesn't respond to mouse or keyboard. The only thing that works is a hard reset. It seems to happen more when the pc is idle but not exclusively and it is very intermittent. It could black screen within a minute or an hour.screen power options are set to never, screensaver is off.I've reinstalled intel graphics drivers, checked hdd for errors and have now done a factory reset. Could this be a hardware issue?  Any input would be great,  thanks.

The laptop is mostly used at school by my son. Screen goes black in the middle of activities or class without any warning. Happened in middle of exam or when making homework. Need to push the start button again and computer starts working again. Bought it 3 month ago.   Charging cord unplugged most of the time. Charging the computer only in the evening.  Happens sometimes only a few minutes after putting it on. Sometimes after 1 hour, at random. Does not matter how full the battery is. At least once a week. What should we do?

I regularly need to clean infections from my old and new customers machines but I got a call from a regular customer about a problem on her laptop I have not yet seen her machine but am due to see her this morning She has a year old Windows machine on which I recently changed the Internet Security software I am a Reseller for Eset The machine formerly had McAfee The machine only uses one login name as there is no-one else in the house who uses the machine Yesterday she called to say that there were two new usernames on the login screen made up of random letters and numbers I know she would not have created these users herself Has this happened to anyone else Is there a cause other than malware infection How to clean up As mentioned I will be 7 login - users on Windows new screen Random appearing going to Windows 7 - Random new users appearing on login screen see the machine in about an hour and may well have more detail then But any guidance before that would be Windows 7 - Random new users appearing on login screen grately appreciated TIA

A:Windows 7 - Random new users appearing on login screen

I too am having this same issue. My client is running ESET and she had two random accounts pop up out of the blue on her machine with random characters for the account names. I have gone through my standard steps to clean and tune up the machine and I deleted the accounts as they appear to have had no data of interest stored in them and acted like they were preforming first logon tasks when entering them.  The part that is really strange, after a reboot or two, one of the two accounts re appears, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why or what the source of this symptom is. It appears to be doing no harm beyond irritating me, but I would like it to stop and I cannot find any infections or solution.

Ok so here it is, i have made a few other threads about this issue but none seem to resolve it.

I keep getting random screen freezes where my mouse and keyboard lockup and so does the screen. im not really sure what causes this but it happens at different times, it could happen when i run a program or using one, it could happen a few minutes after everything has loaded it sometimes happens when the logon screen comes up saying "Welcome".

I tried a clean install of windows but still the problem is there????

HELP!!

P.S i have a pc that was built from differnt parts it is not a company pc i.e dell, asus, toshiba...

My computer is about a year old and just recently it has been completely shutting down while i am playing CSGO. Now it crashes if i'm watching someone play on Twitch, if i'm playing League of Legends, SC2, and yesterday crashed while i was playing bloons td battle. I tried doing a full scan for a virus and it crashed half way through that too.

I managed to do a Windows Memory Diagnostic and no errors came back so it isn't my ram. I don't think my comp is overheating either because when i check the temp its always near 50 Celsius and i have five fans including two 230mm fans. If someone could please try and help figure out why my computer is crashing i would be so happy.

A:Random Black Screen Crashes

What's near 50?C? There is more than one temperature to consider, have you checked your GPU temps? The 6670 is an entry level card so I wouldn't be surprised if that was struggling like hell.

A:Random Black Screen Of Death

Hello,

Black screens are normally caused by the Graphics Driver failing. I would make sure that you have the latest ATI drivers.

How long has this been happening? If you have done a recent driver update for the Graphics Card then I would roll back the driver and see if the problem persists.

Hi, Heres my dilemma, I have a Acer 5050 that chooses to boot to black screen, (video fine on external monitor, but in low resolution). I updated xp, updated ATI driver to new one, set resolution to medium, rebooted and video comes back on notebook fine. Then I came back 2 hrs later and black screen again, I plug in external monitor again and its there, low res again. I set video to factory default settings in ATI control panel and rebooted, video fine again! Seems like if I leave it for an hour or two it goes back to black screen. Could this be a battery issue? I see the battery is very weak. Acer has a management program on it to control video, etc. I don't know if that could be suspect too.

I've had this before but can't remember what I did to stop it
It Is exactly like you pull the dvi/hdmi lead out of monitor/gpu everything still working i.e. if playing video on youtube it carries on playing just no picture.
I think it was something to do with Intel's built in gpu, but I have disabled it everywhere I can think of bios, device manager etc.
Can anyone through some light on this please as it's startingto annoy me now

My rig specs in sig.

A:Random black screen, rig stays on !!

When does this occur? At random? Only when videos/games are playing? Also, what is the exact behavior? Is the monitor giving off behavior as if it has lost its video source, like an error saying the source was lost or it is switching through different connections to find one? Can you tell if your system is locked up, or if it's still accepting your input? The best way to determine thsi is to have the display lost when playing a video, then pressing a key to stop/start playback.

If the monitor is acting like it's not connected to the PC, then it can be a bad video port on your card, a bad/loose video cable, or the monitor itself has a bad port or is just plain bad. You will want to start with potential physical suspects before dabbling with software. Have you tried actually running the video through your onboard video (make sure to enable it and stuff of course) instead of your graphics card and see if that worked?

I have an Asus laptop that is almost brand new but without warning the screen will go black. When I restart it, Windows doesn't recover from a serious error or anything. I've checked the battery and that isn't the problem. I've run virus scans and they turn up nothing and I have no other issues with the computer. Thanks in advance guys. Let me know what I have to do.

I searched and found a thread like this in the Archives, and I have a similar problem. My brand new computer running WinXP Pro randomly goes into sleep mode when im using it, (playing planetside, mostly). I have all of my power settings in windows turned off, it should never go into sleep mode, nevertheless when im in the middle of using it.

I saw it was suggested to disable something in the bios, and I have no idea what that is. FYI I am not too computer-advanced, so a detailed description as possible would be nice. I am running on:

ASUS K8V Deluxe Via-K8T800 Chipset

AMD Athlon-64 3000+ HT

Hey all.

So for a good while now, I've had this problem with my laptop where it'll do the usual Blue Screen stuff, just without the actual Blue Screen (the screen goes completely black); this usually happens just after a file from the Internet has finished downloading, though it has also happened while the laptop is idling.

As someone who really dislikes asking for help, I attempted to analyse the dumps myself and find people with similar problems, though I could never come to a conclusion as to what's wrong. So here I am, asking you guys.

The steps in the BSoD posting guide produced a .zip file with the two dumps from the minidump folder, though it excluded the dump in the Windows folder; would it be beneficial to post that one up too?

A:[SOLVED] Random Black Screen

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Try using Safe Mode to run the computer and see whether the problem persists.

To boot in to Safe Mode, do the following:
Press the ON button and start tapping the F8 key ... and keep tapping ... until you are presented with the "Windows Advanced Options Menu". Use your UP/DOWN arrows to select "Safe Mode" and press the Enter key.

There will be no internet access in Safe Mode.

Please post back with the result, and that may give someone a better idea of what might be happening.
----------------
When you say "black screen" .... does that mean that the computer continues to run normally ... even though the screen display has blacked out? Does your keyboard still work? Do you see any evidence that the mouse may still be working? Does the computer slow/freeze at any time with or without the screen blacking out?
------------
The only other thing that comes to mind immediately .... replace the PSU (power supply unit) with a reliable one ... and see whether the problem persists.

I purchased a new XPS 15 9550 with the upgraded graphics and it was delivered yesterday. I love the machine but from time to time the machine will flash followed by a black screen. This happens both on and off the doc (Dell dock type c).
I have been updating drivers and bios and it appears it is happening more often. I am not doing any gaming or anything that graphics intensive. Are there any tricks for this?
One thing I noticed is that even after updating the BIOS, the dell system detection still says the bios needs updating. Not sure if that matters or not.

Hey I noted my laptop will black screen at random in regular mode and so I restart the computer only for it to keep happening. I start up in safe mode and it works fine no black screen issues. Is there a reason or a fix for the screen shutting down in regular mode? I was told the lap top needs to be replaced.

Laptop is a Qosmio and is about 5 years old. I do not use if for much but son was using it for school.

Thank you,

Rick.

A:random black screen on laptop

Hi, it may be a hardware problem or a system driver, as less drivers load in safe mode.
Try System Restore in safe mode.
Start - Search - Type.
cmd
Right click cmd.exe - run as administrator.
Type
rstrui.exe
Then press Enter.
Choose a date prior to your problem.

I recently did a factory restore on my laptop since it was giving me really bad problems before BSOD on boot unable to start in safe mode etc I assumed that black failure; Laptop followed random by screen colors screen it was caused by a bad video driver installation Once I did my factory restore this problem was solved but it seems like a new one arose In the first few days the laptop was working fine but I recently realised that if I unplug my AC Laptop screen failure; random colors followed by black screen Adapter my laptop would work for awhile but will eventually die The screen would just go black then I would see weird colors and then it would go black again and I would be forced to hold the power button and restart The funny thing is this never happens when I have it plugged in I then realised that it happened when I plugged it out and moved it around so I assumed it had something to do with the wiring inside my laptop But it seems that isn t the case since even if I move it around while it s plugged in it doesn t happen I m pretty sure it has something to do with my power supply at this point but I m not really sure If anyone can help I would really appreciate it EDIT It just happened to me as I tried to access my task manager I did CTLR ALT DEL and my screen went black and my laptop simply restarted itself nbsp

A:Laptop screen failure; random colors followed by black screen

EDIT: It seems it has gotten way worse. It happened while it was plugged in, and not only that, but when I tried to turn on my laptop again, the screen remained black and I heard these beeping noises. (6 beeps in succession, over and over) Sometimes I turned it on and it didn't even beep. I managed to actually get my laptop to boot, but I'm afraid it will happen again.

A:Random BSODs and screen freezes

No DMP files included in upload try this method

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Hi I am having a problem where my computer screen randomly freezes while playing the game Warcraft 3.

The screen usually freezes up every minute for about 3-4 seconds.

During this time, I can hear the game sound but the picture remains frozen. After the picture resumes, all the events that happened while my screen was frozen are displayed very fast until it catches up to where it currently is.

I searched the forum and found a similar topic here:

http://forums.techguy.org/games/846146-computer-periodically-hangs-while-playing.html
However that topic is closed and I did not see any solution found.

I am running a: Sony Vaio: Intel core i5, M 520 @ 2.40 GHz, 4.00 GB RAM, 64 Bit operating system (Windows 7) with an Intel graphics media accelerator HD video card.
Edit: I should note that it also happens when watching videos on VLC player, so it may not be just a game related problem.

A:Random screen freezes (Warcraft 3)

That would indicate that it is video related. No matter how fast the computer is, if the video is not capable of handling what you are doing you will experience video related anomylies like freezing, skipping, etc. However your PC is fast enough and i can't imagine a newer pc with those specs, having a terrible video card. Have you attempted any overclocking or made any system changes lately to video settings? Try adjusting screen resolution also and repeating the steps that cause the problems to see if they still happen.

Another thing to check is start a movie then open up task manager and see if some other program is eating up too much ram or processing power....if it is working too hard it will cause anything intensive like video to lag or skip

If all else fails if its under warranty i'd call Sony.

Hi, I recently upgraded my PSU from a faulty one, and since then I've been having these random freezes in which my PC screen just goes into some random solid color(pink, grey, purple) and it doesn't respond at all. The only way to fix  it is a hard reset.

I've had some exceptional problem with this while playing Dota 2. I checked my rig's air circulation, which is perfectly fine. I'm not sure if this is my PC getting heated up but I've attached my temperature monitor report in the attachments.

My hardware specifications are:

Windows 10 x64 Pro
4 GB RAM
Intel Core i5 650 @3.20 GHz
Nvidia Geforce GTX 9400 GT
Intel DH55TC Motherboard

Speccy specifications: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/dWV2gaOq1oU5QXD2kY6mANy

I'll let you know anything else that's required. Thanks.

A:PC freezes with a random color screen

Sounds like a video problem.  Start with these free hardware diagnostics (particularly the video tests):  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html
If that doesn't isolate the problem, then let's try looking at these reports:
1)  Please provide this information (even though you may not be reporting BSOD's) so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum):  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/
2)  Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).
FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504
While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility:  http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Hey guys I'm looking for some advice help for a problem I've recently been having with my PC For the past or months i've been getting screen freezes and intermittent BSODs particularly while gaming I found this weird because I haven't upgraded or changed anything in the system in a few years now my system specs are intel i k ghz V load temps with prime are C corsair vengeance mhz gb ram random BSODs, freezes screen nvidia GTX stock clocks C load temp MSI PG A-G Mmobo seasonic W psu most components are less than years old i think the GPU is about years old now obviously random BSODs, screen freezes my first thought was to test the memory which i did The RAM passed hours of memtest with no errors and also passed random BSODs, screen freezes my mobo's built in memtest utility my PSU seems to be supplying steady power I did manage to get the system to freeze while running prime the first time however i've since ran it more times and I can't random BSODs, screen freezes get it to produce any errors yet the problem generally only occurs while gaming so i thought my gpu might be a problem took it apart and reapplied thermal paste temps dont go above C I know the gpu is still old so could this be causing the problems anyway any advice direction would be greatly appreciated

Hello. I have a question about Windows 7 installation. I am using usb booting from pendrive. Sometimes when i am booting from usb windows 7 , on 1 screen when you choose language there is a freez , no keyboard working and no mouse. I must use hard reset. Is this something to worry about?
I am using stock system, 4790k, 16gb DDR 1600mhz, Saberooth Z97 Mark 2. But no errors in memtest86.
I want to be sure that all is ok with memory. When I get to the language selection the mouse and keyboard stop working and no cursor appears, they both work in bios so I don't know what the issue is. Then i must use hard reset. Its totally random but always work after second boot and then windows load with mouse cursor and keyboard works.

A:Black Screen of Death (random and crazy)

If you only have a black screen...just how did you run the above apps you claim to have used?

In any case...IMO, a black screen is likely to be a hardware problem and running any application isn't going to address that.

Is This your system?

Did you try to boot into safe mode?

Hi guys! I've got a Lenovo Y50-70 (2015) with a GTX960M under the hood which I bought in January. I've been having a strange problem with my screen. Sometimes out of the blue my screen just goes black. But its not like the screen turns off, the keyboard and the borders of the screen are lit, its just I can't see the cursor or anything I had on the screen originally. The problem doesn't resolve itself unless I hold down the power button and shut it down. I've had this problem at least 4 times and since I'm going to start going to uni soon, I'd rather not have the problem of losing important work if the issue does happen again Thanks in advance!

Hi, I've been having troubles with my laptop screen. Upon reopening my laptop from sleep mode, the screen remains black instead of loading up the login screen. I've plugged in an HDMI external monitor and it displays fine so I know it is the laptop screen. Also if I restart the laptop, the laptop screen works fine. I've tried updating graphics drivers and adjusting external monitor options (Win+P) but with no success. Any suggestions on what I should do? I've had this laptop for a while now and there is no valid warranty.Thank you

hello bleeping computer world. im sure you have had many cases of black screens popping up while gaming. i know the issue might have to do with my laptop heating up, but i just want to double check as this has only started happening recently on my new vaio vgn-fw490J laptop.

im running on vista home premium sp1 with a radeon hd 4650 graphics card and have installed/run speed fan on automatic fan speed as some forums have suggested, but my black problem still hasnt gone away.

it has only happened while i played HoN (Heroes of Newerth), a pretty graphically demanding game, but again im puzzled because i played the game perfectly fine for two~three weeks, then one day i suddenly get a black screen, then another, and then another... etc.

if you guys can help, that would be awesome and greatly appreciated!

thanks :]

It could be driver related, but it is probably a heat issue.

Hi and welcome to TSF,

1. Please try another monitor if possible to eliminate your monitor from the equation.

2. I believe that board has built in graphics, please try and connect to the other vga port on the I/O board on back of pc. You may need to go into bios to enable the internal IGP(graphics built in adapter) beforehand.

A:Gigabyte GTS450 causes random black screen

Hello Dr. Welcome to the Forum.

It sounds like a failed video card. But you should check to eliminate other simple reasons before replacing the card.

A graphics card can also fail due to insufficient power, overheating, driver conflicts, RAM issues, and connection issues.

Power: check to be sure that the PCI-e power connectors are properly plugged into the card. IIRC the 450 uses two 8 pin connectors. Unplug and re-plug these any make sure they are fully seated.
Check your power supply specs and let us know the Brand & Model, how many total watts, and if you can, the number of Amps it puts out on the 12 volt. It should be 22A or more for that card IIRC.

I think we can rule out overheating, as the error occurs right away. The card doesn't have time to overheat.

Driver conflicts might occur when both graphics engines are trying to run at once. Many modern motherboard's BIOS automatically switch off the onboard graphics when a graphics card is detected in the slot. But you should check.
With the 450 installed in the computer, go into safe mode and navigate to the Device Manager and check to see if only one or both graphics adapters are shown.
If both are shown, choose the on-board adapter, right click, and then DISABLE (don't uninstall).
If that makes no difference, and you can go into your BIOS settings, you could disable the onboard graphics manually there (be sure the 450 is still installed when you do this).
In all cases above you want to see if the system will run the 450 w/o problem.

RAM issues can be tested simply by downloading and running http://www.memtest.org/#downiso for at least 3 passes. There should not be any errors.

Connection issues are tested by re-seating the video card being sure it clicks into its slot correctly and checking the DVI cable connections.

Try those diagnostics and see if they uncover anything. If not you could just have a dud card. If this is a new boxed system then your best back is to bring it back for warranty repair/replacement.

Hey everyone I recently built my first custom PC Here is a link to the build on PCPartPicker AMD FX- Sapphire Radeon R Corsair R - Ordered build updated - ajthemacboy amp s Saved Part List - PCPartPicker Since then I have had random black screen issues At one point I reinstalled the OS and they still occur You may notice the R needs a W power supply at the least At first look you would think this is the problem SF.zip! Screen/Crash I a - minidump + Black have Random but it's not Before the R I had an EVGA Ti which only uses like watts of power or something as well as a CM W power supply and the black screen issues still occurred First I returned the power supply for a CS M black screen still occurred Then I returned the Ti for an r and the issue still occurs If it's not the graphics card power supply or OS what should I do The last three times the black screen has happened there was no minidump It happened two times yesterday Friday and once today The info I got from SF Diagnostic tool is attached The minidump blames NTOSKRNL EXE but I have no clue what this is or how to fix it Thanks in advance for your help

A:Random Black Screen/Crash - I have a minidump + SF.zip!

MSI Afterburner and Riva Tuner (along with EVGA Precision) are known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems (it's driver is usually RTCore64.sys). Please un-install them immediately!

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

cpudrv64.sys is blamed in one of the memory dumps (and it dates from 2009) Please uninstall the program associated with it (I believe it's related to a program named "Can I Run It?" - Driver Reference Table - cpudrv64.sys )

AMD OverDrive (AODDriver2.sys) is either a stand-alone application, or a component of the AMD VISION Engine Control Center. This driver is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.

NOTE: these symptoms were from the previous release of OverDrive. The new release uses the same driver name, but is dated from 4 November 2013.

Please un-install all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Un-install a program
Then, download (but DO NOT install) a fresh copy of the ATI drivers from Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD (in the upper right corner of the page)
Use this procedure to install the DRIVER ONLY: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure - Sysnative Forums

If the device (AODDriver or AODDriver4.01) remains a problem, open Device Manager, select the "View" item.
Then select "Show hidden devices" and scroll down to the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section.
Locate the AODDriver entry, right click on it and select "Un-install". Reboot for changes to take affect.

Sometimes the driver remains and continues to cause BSOD's. If this is the case for you, post back and we'll give further instructions for safely removing it.

If overclocking, please stop. Remove the overclock and return the system to stock/standard values while we're troubleshooting. Once the system is stable again, feel free to resume the overclocking.

The other 3 memory dumps are STOP 0x124 errors:
They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- missing Windows Updates
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers), older systems, or even pirated systems
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

Also, monitor your system's temperatures with this free tool: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Normally temps shouldn't exceed:
CPU - 60?C
GPU - 80?C
HDD and other components - 40?C

Hi guys! I am having a problem with my new pc.
Spec's are:
MOBO: GA-970A-DS3P
CPU: AMD FX 6300
GPU: ASUS R7 260X OC EDITION 1 Gb DDR5
RAM:2x MUSHKIN 992029 DIMM 2GB DDR3-1600 ESSENTIALS SERIES
PSU:Inter Tech 550W

The problem is that when pc is running and uses much of its RAM, for example during a game or during multitasking, the screen will turn to black and thats it, there's nothing I can do after that other than restart.
It happened many time during alt+tab when I was playing a game, and screen went black.
It also happened when I opened a program (and permition message should pop up) and then black again.
I thought that it could be due to low RAM, I dont know I just make an assumption.
I also copied the events around the time when the problem occured.
Thanks you in advance!!

A:Random(?) Black Screen on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

The power supply could be a bit weak. Did you build this PC yourself?

A:Random Black Screen (Power saving)

I had the same problem when playing mount & blade, I read on another forum that this could be a heat issue so I tried to open up the computer and use the fan I had on my desk to cool while I played. That solved my issue though the fan is quite disturbing so I need to get some better fans inside my computer
