Toshiba laptop turning off but OK when in safe mode.

Q: Toshiba laptop turning off but OK when in safe mode.

I am working on a Toshiba L750 laptop with Windows 7, it was booting to the desktop for a few seconds and then turning off, if I boot into safe mode it works fine. Thinking it was software related I am in the process of reloading the software using the recovery partition software but it seems to be now doing the same now it loading the various programs on top of windows.
Any suggestions gladly received.

Preferred Solution: Toshiba laptop turning off but OK when in safe mode.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Toshiba laptop turning off but OK when in safe mode.

I would suspect the graphic card driver, or that the screen resolution is set too high.
Safe mode boots the pc with the minimum, but working MS drivers.
You could try safe mode, then device manager, and uninstall the graphic card driver. Then do a normal boot .
Windows should fall back to a reliable MS driver running in SVGA mode, or just above that. It should be stable.
I would also run 'sfc /scannow', to try to correct any simple Windows O/S problems.
Best source for the drivers would be Toshiba's site.
( Of course it could also be overheating but not if it's fine in safe mode.)

Here's a link on where to get Toshiba recovery disks: http://www.carrona.org/recdisc.html#toshiba

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests. They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:
[quote]H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
http://www.carrona.org/memdiag.html (read the details at the link)
http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html (read the details at the link)

DO NOT restore the computer until you back your stuff up.
You may be able to backup with a USB drive and a Live OS CD such as Linux or the Ultimate Boot CD.

I have a Toshiba satellite L755 laptop running windows 7 64-bit and there are some problems. It is extremely slow in both safe and "normal" modes, when it can actually boot up in normal mode. There are no system restore points, and the memory check turned up nothing. I was not in possession of the laptop on the day that it developed these problems, so I have no idea what it could be. I could potentially download and run TSG SysInfo if you let me know. Ank help is appriciated, thanks.

Hey all,

When I turn on my PC I can get to the ADMIN or my user, but after I enter the password I get the blue loading circle and then the PC freezes.

I tried to run a system restore by pressing F8, but it says I do not have any restore points. I have run system restore previously with no issues.

I am able to log in while in Safe Mode, but I cannot create any Restore points. Also, I cannot access system protection at all.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Galvanicend, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might start off troubleshooting with a clean startup to see if it may help to reveal the culprit if it's some program or driver running at startup causing the issue.

Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

Hope this helps for now,

Hi All

My son Lloyd has a Toshiba Laptop which is just over a year old - typical eh as we can now no longer take it back on guarantee.

It keeps turning itself off completely - I assume because of overheating???. This has started to happen quite frequently now, five times yesterday evening and also a few times this morning. He is getting quite frustrated at this and I have no idea what we can do to investigate it.

Can anyone here offer advice as to what I could do to determine what the issue is and what may be causing it. Many thanks.

Lloyd is registering on TSG right now as I type this note as 'burnsy' so he can monitor and reply within this thread.

Thanks folks....

Hi there,

I'm trying to turn off the sound on the media panel on my Toshiba A500-02J. The sound is muted when I mute it off the panel (that is, until I press volume up/down). But I'm trying to stop the beeping when pressing the volume buttons. I've gone to the system tray, and speakers, and turned off system volume. I've also gone to Sounds in the Control Panel but I haven't found anything specific on this.

I'm not sure whether I need to use a Toshiba application or just a general Windows one to turn it off.

If someone could provide some suggestions, it would very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Try going to All Programs >> Toshiba >> Utilities >> HWSetup.

Then the button setting tab.

Disable button sound notification.

I have an A505 and that worked for me.

Hi

Is it worth turning off the Toshiba logos / splash screens that crop up before Windows 7 loads? I have been looking around to learn how to turn the off but have yet to find an answer I'm confident in!

If it is, where can I learn how to do it?

I have a Toshiba Satelitte C670 D - 11K, windows 7, 64 bit.

Thanks ...

A:Solved: Turning off splash screen on Toshiba laptop

You may be able to turn it off in the BIOS but it's rarely an option in laptops, but is it worth it...nope, it won't improve performance. I'm sure someone has found a way to flash a hacked BIOS onto some machines but I'd strongly advise against that as you could end up bricking the laptop.

Hello

I have a Toshiba NB200 notebook with Windows XP. When I switched it on it wouldn't boot past the first screen and I couldn't get to safe mode with F8.
The only thing I can do is enter BIOS set-up and that's all (by pressing F12).

The BIOS recognises the harddrive. I then created a USB drive to boot from and this got me to a MSDOS C: prompt having first changed the BIOS to read the USB drive first and also updated the BIOS (Phoenix v1.6).

I am unclear as to what should I do next as the c: prompt does not let me run windows and just shows the files on the USB stick.
Should I copy windows files to the USB? Also, how do I know if the harddrive has failed and is unrecoverable (hopefully not)?

Any guidance welcome!
thanks

A:Toshiba NB200 - Boot Problem (Windows XP) - can't access safe mode

Hi

Possibly there is not Windows OS on the HDD and therefore you cannot boot neither the OS nor safe mode.
Do you have a recovery disk or did you backup the Toshiba image on the USB flash stick?

If not, then you will need to reinstall the OS from the clean Windows XP CD.
You could build an own Windows XP USB flash stick which would allows you to reinstall the OS.
I think this should be possible since you have booted the notebook in DOS.

Here is a nice instruction how to do that:

Good luck

There is no malicious software.I have gone through Malwarebytes,TDSSKiller,Kaspersky, etc.Nothing was found.
It doesn't entirely freeze.I can move the cursor which usually is a blue circle.Sometimes more things like highlight icons w/ the cursor or the clock keeps going.
Sometimes when I press ctrl+alt+del and open task manager, the programs that didn't open when I clicked on them will open up.Most times pressing ctrl+alt+del does nothing though.
It works fine in Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking.I have disabled all start ups and every service except Microsoft ones and restarted in Normal mode.Still the same problem.
I used checkdisk and it said nothing is wrong.
There are random times where it works fine.No specific time of day.It just happens. Most times it is this way though.

A:Laptop only works in safe mode.Hangs w/ blue circle in Normal mode.

Did you disable the startup items and services in Safe Mode, and then restart in normal mode?

Essentially what you are trying to do is a Clean Boot, this has to be performed in normal mode.

***This is a diagnotic tool for Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.  This will not repair your computer, but it may point to where the problem lies so that a repair can be made.***

Warning:  Disabling items in Services or Startup may leave your anitivius disabled until the process is ended.  For this reason I would suggest that you perform this process off line.

Step 1

(1)  Click on the Start orb , then type msconfig.exe in the Search programs and files box.

(2)  When msconfig is seen in the pane above the search box and under Programs, right click on it, then click on Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, you should enter the password or provide confirmation.

Step 2

(1)  Click on the General tab.

(2)  Click the Selective startup option.

(3)  Remove the check mark in the Load startup items  check box.

Step 3

(1)  Click on the Services tab.

(2)  Place a check mark in the Hide all Microsoft services check box, this will remove the Microsoft Services from the list but will still be running.

(3)  Click Disable all, this will remove all of the check marks in the Services list, then click on Apply, then OK.  Click on Restart in the window that opens.

Caution:  By disabling the Services your antivirus will not be active, for this reason I suggest that this process not be run while online.

If the problem does not reoccur after the reboot continue with the process of elemination to find the Service which is causing this in Option A.  If the problem does reoccur after the reboot go to Option B.

Option A

**The following is a process of elimination to find the Service or Startup item that is causing your problem**.

*  If the problem does not reoccur after the restart go back to Services and place check marks in half of the boxes and restart the computer.

*  If the problem still does not continue return to Services and remove the check marks that were added, then place check marks in the remaining half of the boxes and restart the computer.

If the problem resumes after a restart in one of these halves, you will procede with this process in the half where the problem occurs.  If this does not continue in either half you should repeat this process in Sartup.

*  In the half of the Services that the problem is found, remove one check mark at a time and restart the computer to see if that  is the Service causing the problem.  Continue to do this with the Services untill the service causing this problem is  found.

Option B

Search Startup itmesIf the problem is not found in Services, remove all of the check marks, click on the Startup tab and repeat the search process there.

Caution:  If this is a laptop, make sure, you do NOT disable any keyboard, or touchpad entries.

If this problem is found post the Service or Startup item that is causing it.

Not sure exactly what happened but couple days ago the laptop started to hang up or freeze when I tried to run any application, such as a browser, control panel, and even task manager. If I need to turn it off I have to hold the power button which I know is not good but otherwise I would not be able to reboot. If I go into safe mode I can use the computer somewhat sluggish but I can at least open up programs and even get on the internet. I cannot do system restore as this had been turned off. I had a conflicting driver issue that I installed, but that has not helped, I dont know what else to do. Please help this is my only computer.

Hello and welcome. I am moving this from XP to the Am I Infected forum for scans.Lets do these from normal. Please download TFC by Old Timer and save it to your desktop. alternate download linkSave any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser! Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator. Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion. Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):NOTE: Before saving MBAM please rename it to zztoy.exe....now save it to your desktop. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from

here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.Exit MBAM when done.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScanHold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.

Hello guys you are my last hope I do not know what I am supposed runs Help! Laptop mode mode not normal but in Safe in to do anymore I spent the last hours looking on the net what I could do Help! Laptop runs in Safe mode but not in normal mode I am a computer noob and have little experience with computers at all Here's my problem Help! Laptop runs in Safe mode but not in normal mode My laptop doesn't start anymore The first thing I noticed on my boot screen were four parallel vertical lines of dots then four parallel lines of vertical dashes then dots again and so on This is in the background from the time when I start my samsung R even on the boot screen as well as on the windows vista loading screen these little boxes floating from right to left These really weird dots are however NOT present in the DOs menu and neither is it after you pressed F to boot in safe mode They are also NOT present in safe mode that means they disappear after the boot screen and are not evident on the black background of the safe mode desktop However at the time when the windows vista sign is supposed to flash up and you'd be prompted to enter your password this is when I start it normally nothing happens and a greyish-white screen comes up after which the system just restarts and the whole process happens again including the dots mentioned earlier I can run the laptop in safe mode in fact I am running it in safe mode with network drivers right now to type this but I cannot under any circumstances run it in normal mode When I start it in safe mode I get the following notice Yes I am running a German OS so I am going to translate what's said in square brackets Produkt Product Windows Problem Unerwartetes Herunterfahren Unexpected shut-down Datum Date Status Bericht gesendet Reported Problemsignatur Problem signature Problemereignisame Name of problem BlueScreen Betriebsystemversion OS version Gebietsschema-ID Area ID Dateien die zur Beschreibung des Problems beitragen ggf nicht mehr verf gbar Files who contributed to the problem Mini - dmp sysdata xml Version txt Weitere Informationen ber das Problem Additional information BCCode BCP A F BCP BCP F BCP OS Version Service Pack Product Serverinformationen f da-c ff- f - e f-b bdcd c As I mentioned earlier I have a Samsung R which is about one and a half years old I also read that the R has infamous graphic card problems as it get's extremely hot Are graphic card problems even a plausible cause More information - I resetted the system this morning after the above outlined problems occurred - I checked the device manager for problems and there are no problems at all - I updated every single driver with the result that they are apparently quot up to date quot Please guys help me I am a year boarding student and I desperately need my laptop to get my work done It is because of this that I might not be able to respond instantly after one of you guys replied because my school has an internet filter that blocks perfectly fine pages like this one Do you guys reckon that installing a completely new windows vista will solve the problem Thank you very much in advance edit some information I forgot - I did a virus scan with ClamWin Free Antivirus since my norton antivirus was wiped out by the system recovery The anti virus software did not find any viruses - I do not have any servicepacks installed since I resetted the system - I do not really know how many windows updates are installed but I guess it's like a fresh vista since I used the backup completed on the date of registration - I do not have the original vista CD with me since I am German and on an exchange to Australia My dad has the CD and he's about km away right now

Do you guys reckon that installing a completely new windows vista will solve the problem?

Hi -

The BSOD bugcheck (STOP error) = 0x50 = invalid memory referenced

As you said - no service packs installed, which is probably one of the problems here. You need to see if you can re-install Windows and then see if it is stable or not.

I do recommend another re-install of Vista using the manufacturer's (OEM) recovery DVD. This must be the first item on the "to do" list. Contact your father or the system manufacturer and obtain the Vista recovery DVDs. Do you have a recovery partition? Many do. Usually, the key to invoke the recovery partition if F10 - during boot-up.

Two other options until your Vista DVDs arrive from your father -
1. Download and burn Server 2008 - it has the same build as Vista, with a few features that have been disabled. It is a trial offer that can be renewed up to 240 days - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserv...-software.aspx

2. Download and Burn Windows 7 RC - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win.../download.aspx

Use a product like ImgBurn to burn DVD ISO - http://www.imgburn.com/

Good Luck to you.

Regards. . .

My Toshiba laptop appears to be stuck into some sort of arabic or symbol mode. I have no idea how to get it off of there. Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I have attached a picture to better explain my situation. Note: This is NOT a picture of my desktop, but this is exactly how my desktop looks with all of the icons and everything in arabic/symbols.

http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/9...1105095257.png

One thing to note, I've gone into the control panel and then into "Region and Language" and set all of the settings to English and it hasn't changed anything.

Please help. It's impossible to navigate these symbols!

A:Toshiba laptop stuck in arabic mode?

Hello cbbi and welcome to TSF,

When you say you've set all languages to English, are you sure you've set the Display Language aswell? If you've done so, most likely your install is corrupted by a malware/virus.

Please try to boot the machine into Safemode (Press F8 during startup) and see if the problem persists in there.

If you can start an administrator Command prompt (Start > Search > type "cmd" > Rightclick "cmd.exe " > Run as administrator) you could try to run a system files check and see if that clears it up, simply type in:
sfc /scannow

Also try restoring the system to a previously known working restore point (Start > Search > type "rstrui" > Hit ENTER).

Let us know if any faults occur and how you get along.

A:Blue Screen on returning from Sleep Mode - Toshiba Laptop

Hi TV2,

Welcome to the 10forums.

There are multiple causes of the crashes,
Please start with following

Please remove Avast the standard way and follow the uninstall instructions to remove traces. Please uninstall Malwarebytes and install it again. If you have a license for malwarebytes please note it before removing Malwarebytes, after using the uninstall utility there is no trace from Malwarebytes left.

If you get any new bluescreen, please use the tool again and upload the zip file.

okay... so i was trying to get into safemode so i could run an antivirus scan, problem is whenever i tried going in safemode the blue screen would pop up and computer would restart. now for some dumb reason i thought maybe i could get in safemode if i used msconfig and selected safe mode from the boot menu. so the computer restarted and now it boots in safemode but the blue screen and restart happen everytime now. ive tried "start windows normally" but that boots in safemode.... ive tried "last known good config..." and that too boots in safemode. so now im stuck, i cant get on windows. any help please?

im willing to start over but i dont know how to do that from here

My daughter's top notch Laptop, (forgot its name & gonfig) sudenly will not run except in Safe Mode.

The experts at the university said:-

"....they used Safe Mode & have most of my files saved on an external drive....."

"..... They are very puzzled - they aren't sure if its hardware or Windows problem. at first they thought it was hardware, but when it opened in Safe Mode, they then thought it must be software....."

"......they will reload the Vista software - if that fails, then they will know it is hardware......."

Anybody had similar problem?

Can anybody beat the University boffins?

I'm new here and in hopes of getting this resolved. I just installed the new Norton Systemworks 2005 and rebooted after installation. When the boot screen got up to the blue screen with the Windows XP logo before displaying the login names where you put in your password, it just stops. I restarted a few times and waiting a few more times thinking it may need to 'finish' installing. But each time gave the same results. Finally, I went in with 'Safe Mode' and got in with no problems. Tried again in normal mode after looking around for any obvious problems (none found)... back to square one. Tried again in 'Safe Mode with Networking' and it failed like normal mode so I suspected a networking problem??? The last thing I tried which made me mad is that I tried to uninstall Norton Systemworks in 'Safe Mode' and that failed!! Anyone in these forums know the cure? :dead:

A:Unable to get to login screen, works in Safe Mode but in Safe Mode w/ Networking

Just a thought

Safe-Mode
Start \ Run \ msconfig \ diagnostic startup
disable any services attached to your most recent install and restart
should get warning next boot about using msconfig, its ok
One key service that needs to be available is the installer service
Try the uninstall, if doesn't complete
Try the uninstall string in the registry only if you know what you are doing

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Under it you will see a list of installed programs. Some don?t show up as words but you can figure out what they are by looking at their values. What you are looking for is the uninstall string. Double click that key as if you were going to modify its value. Do a CTRL + C to copy and then exit the registry editor.

Go to START \ RUN and paste the uninstall sting and hit enter. This should launch the uninstall.

Just a thought though as I am not infront of a test system at the moment. You should research this a little further so you have a clear understanding of what you can and can't do with msconfig.

or simpler yet

Safe-Mode

Start \ Programs \ Access. \ System Tools \ System Restore

Select restore point prior to install of whats giving you the problem.

Again, Good Luck

PS If you try to install it again, turn of antivirus and other open programs etc..

i tried a different graphics card, but no joy.so i replaced the hdd drive and put a fresh copy of windows xp pro edtion on,but it loads all the files(i have not pressed f6)i just let it run its course on the disc, then it hangs up on the blue screen again with the words(crit error 0x0000007f)check hardware etc and if this is the first time you have seen it try starting windows again.

Thankyou for all your time.

A:Solved: xp safe in safe mode fine...mormal mode blue screen

Start in Safe Mode and look in C:\Windows\Minidump for crash log files with a dmp extension, like Mini071008-01.dmp. Zip 4-5 of the latest ones and post here as a ZIP or RAR attachment. The log file contains information useful to determine what caused the error, most likely hardware.

A:HP Laptop, freezing but not in safe mode

I got in contact with HP, they said it is a software problem and gave some steps:
1. Disable startup programs (i'd already done this)
2. Disable non-windows services (done this too)
3. Use the HP system restore to restore my laptop to factory settings

So I'm up to the final solution, but I'd really rather not have to start everything from scratch. Any ideas?

Is starting fresh worth the time it takes to reinstall everything? I've backed up my personal files already.

Hi Zoe, don't panic and do anything rash, it sounds like windows went south, that's all. Do you have a backup of the system in something like Acronis? If not, you may consider that for next time. Also recommend always having a BartPE Boot CD on hand. If you google how to make a bartPE CD, you will get help there. That CD allows you to boot your PC and see what's going on, or recover files.

If you have your original XP CD, you can try a repair installation, but google that too to get the correct procedure. What you don't want to do is to reformat your drive if there are files you need there. But a repair installation should fix your registry unless there is some viral thing going on...which is always a possibility. You should also google BSOD STOP errors and find the Microsoft KB that describes all these errors and even sometimes offers suggestions for fixes. Well, good luck!

also any ! X or ?

Using msconfig, I set the boot mode to be safe mode. Now, when it boots up it doesn't accept my password. I think it might be looking for the administrator password. Is there any way to get it to stop booting in safe mode? It boots up in safe mode everytime because I set it to do that in msconfig but now I can't get back into msconfig. Thanks, Kevin

My daughter is running vista on 1 yr old laptop, no issues until yesterday, computer will eventually freeze when not in safe mode. happens after more programs are started or several minutes.

AVG scan, Malwarbytes checks find nothing. Had Norton Internet security installed originally but I noticed it was not and can not run now.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:laptop freezes out of safe mode

There may be many reasons why system freezes. Has your daughter installed/updated anything before problem starts? If so, then you should try to uninstall/reinstall this and check if it helps. This can be also hardware problem. Check memory with memtest86+. Check also temperatures using HWMonitor. Finally check your hard drive, to do this run Command Prompt with Administrator Privileges (Start > All Programs > Accesories, right click on Command Prompt and then select ?Run as Administrator?) and there typechkdsk /f c:It might display a prompt asking if you want to check the disk the next time you restart your computer. You should agree and restart your computer. You may also check disk S.M.A.R.T. status with Crystal Disk Info. Open this program, then click Edit > Copy and paste this here. Somebody will check if everything is ok.

A:laptop won't boot even in safe mode

Has the laptop ben overheating? You may want to check the tech manual and see how tough it is to open the case and blow out any dust around the fan(s) and heatsink.

Also, check your System and Application event logs (Right Click My Computer->Manage->Event Viewer) ... this may give some clues as to what's happening

hi there!
This problem just occurred, like today.
I installed some antiviruses (such as new version of spybot, Ad-AwareAE, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, stinger10000482)
They didn't find anything. so there was no file deleted.
But since that scan can't boot my laptop in safe mode.
The loading process stucks on the same place all the time, on the file atisgkaf.sys and that's it! It Stays like that for hours!
The whole line looks like that:
Multi(0)disk(0)partition(1)\Windows\system32\Drivers\atisgkaf.sys
What can I do to fix it?

My son went to put his E system laptop on this morning and it wont boot up. It gets to the windows loading page and restarts. It wont even let me start it in safe mode. I know i installed the drivers for his web cam yesterday but after it installed it said it needed to restart and it was fine then.
Any idea what it can be or how to get on to it to delete the driver in case thats what caused it.
I tried f12 but it just keeps running through some strange letters over and over. Also tried f8 but like i say wont let me start in safe mode.

Thanks in advance

About two weeks ago my laptop started hanging every few minutes. I was able to do a system restore to "fix" the problem, and the hanging stopped. Well, a few days ago it started again, and is getting rapidly worse. The only way I can definitely keep it from hanging is to start in safe mode with networking, under my username. If I start it in administrator, or in regular safe mode, it will freeze up. Also, even in safe mode with networking, under my username, if I defrag or attempt a system restore, it will freeze.

Any ideas? I've tried switching out the ram, and that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Running Windows XP, and it is a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop with 2G ram.

Thanks!

Good night.

First :
- Hp Pavillion dv6208nr
- Nvdia GeForce G6150
- 2 Gb RAM

Now that we got those details let's describe the problem:

- Last night I instaled 4 themes for my Windows 7, and right before going to sleep I restarted my Laptop, and when it came up, the screen started blinking with the Loading screen and a black screen and it did this until it shutted off, i turned it on again, and it did the same, but it didn't turned off it just stood blinking, then I tried to go in Safe Mode, It worked, As soon as i got in the first thing i did was delete the Themes to see if my problem was solved, but it didn't.

- I've been looking pretty much everywhere and I don't get anything that helps me out, so I'm here to see if someone can help me.

Karu.

A:My laptop only boots in safe mode Help!

Hi! Karulapara, welcome to 7F

Restart your machine while tapping the F8 key when a menu appears select 'Last known good configuration' and try that. This will load the last normal session you had.

If that does not work, get back into Safe Mode, and click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
Select a date that you know the computer was running and the computer will revert to the state it was in at that time.

Hi, Let the notebook start in Safe Mode.  Then hold down the Windows key and press R.  Into the Run Box type msconfig and hit enter.  In the System Configuration window, click the Boot tab and look to see if there is a tick in the box next to Safe boot - if there is, click the box to remove the tick and then click Apply to save the change.  Restart the notebook and see if Windows will boot normally. Regards, DP-K

Anyways, the machine will not boot except in safe mode. It pulls up the option screen between safe and last successful normal boot, and when you tell it to boot normally, it gets to the windows xp screen and then after a time, reverts back to the safe mode option screen. It will boot up in safe mode however. What steps should I get into to diagnosing/fixing this machine? Your help is greatly appreciated... Thank you.

Hello,
I have a Sony Vaio laptop with Vista Home Premium. Last week, windows update was installing about 14 updates and we lost power in our neighborhood for about 30 minutes.  When I went to restart my laptop, it would only boot up in the safe mode. I have tried restarting the computer several times but that does not seem to work. I have tried System Restore and have picked dates that were a week before this event when my laptop was working really well. I have also went to the devise manager to check to see if any of the drivers need to be updated.. Could you give me some other solutions that I could try to fix this problem.

Thanks a lot,

A:Laptop will only boot up in safe mode

When the power went down applications which were running at that time may have been damaged.

Try running sfc /scannow in Safe Mode.  The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces corrupted and incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions

Go to Start, type cmd in the search box.  It will appear above the search box, right click and choose to Run as administrator.

When the command page opens type in sfc /scannow and then press Enter.

Toshiba A205-S4577 Vista SP1 laptop freezes at random, normally within two hours, sometimes straight after login. OK in Safe Mode, for 14 hours and for 18 hours. But get this, using MSCONFIG, with "Disable all System Services" and separately "Disable All Startup Items" - it still freezes.

RAM TOK Memtest86+ overnight. Hard drive TOK by OEM drive test. Temperatures get to CPU 63~65 and HD around 46. But it has frozen very shortly after a cold start.

Dont want to reinstall because of custom programs that I cant readily replace.

Whats the difference between Safe Mode, and MSCONFIG "Disable all System Services" plus "Disable All Startup Items" ?? Been searching Microsoft but haven't found an answer.

(In the meantime, Im updating all drivers.)

Thanks !

A:Laptop Freezes, OK in Safe Mode

"Whats the difference between Safe Mode, and MSCONFIG "Disable all System Services" plus "Disable All Startup Items" ?? Been searching Microsoft but haven't found an answer."

Safe mode just loads the basic services and drivers for Windows to function. Basically ignores most start up entries and disables non essential Services. A driver is most likely the problem but they are considered system files and load from the registry, start uninstalling recent software you may have installed, see if the issue resolves itself.

Or you can try a system restore, pick a date before the lockups started.

Windows Home Premium Emachines E laptop I just got through dealing with an infection Details in this thread http www bleepingcomputer com forums topic htmlI restarted and F ed my way to Advanced Mode In Safe Start Not Will Laptop Boot Options and selected Safe Mode with networking It started up normally got to the Users page Laptop Will Not Start In Safe Mode I selected my profile typed in my password and the puter suddenly restarted Huh So I tried again and typed faster The puter at first began to start up in safe mode then suddenly restarted I tried one more time but this time when it got to the Profiles page I left it alone and counted seconds later it suddenly restarted by itself So I can not enter Safe Mode The infection has been removed and MSE shows that it is clear Correlation is not causation so I can not say that the Safe Mode problem is related to the infection and I can not even remember ever starting this particular machine in Safe Mode since I bought it new I welcome any assistance TIA

A:Laptop Will Not Start In Safe Mode

Hello 58Custom,Can we assume that your system boots up into normal windows without problems and that it just reboots after logging into your safe mode profile?Things to try:1) Create a new administrator account as a test (with or without a password). Start-->Control Panel-->(view by large icons)-->User Accounts-->Manage another account-->Create a new account (i.e. name "Test")--> click Administrator--> Create account.Test it by first logging into normal windows and then in safe mode.Does it still reboot in safe mode with the "Test" Account?2) Check for hard drive corruption by running chkdsk /R: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.htmlOption oneBe sure to check both boxes (Step 8)Restart the computer. Check disk will proceed through 5 stages and can take several hours to complete. If errors are found, it should be run again.3) Run the System File Checker: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.htmlOption twoSteps 1-2."If SFC could not fix something, then run the command again to see if it may be able to the next time. Sometimes it may take running the sfc /scannow command 3 or more times to completely fix everything that it's able to."

Hi I have a Fujitsu Amilo laptop running Vista approx years old Over the weekend it stopped working Laptop won't start Safe (inc Mode) Vista and if anyone has any advice I d really appreciate it When I attempt to start it up normally - shows desktop start menu etc but soon after usually before I can do anything it freezes - I can move the mouse about but it s unresponsive to clicks and Vista Laptop won't start (inc Safe Mode) to keyboard commands - a few times it s given a specific BSOD message but I don t know what it was referencing When I attempt to start it up safe mode - usually doesn t make it past the black and white screen with a list of file names - when it does reach the stage of showing the start menu etc it s much the same as with normal start up It freezes in the same way or powers off without warning I have tried restoring the system to previous dates which didn t make a difference occasionally the system restore program is interrupted by powering off in the same way as above I have also been prompted to run CHKDSK a few times and it completed but didn t change anything Recently I have - Had the power jack repaired - the connection still looks to be good - Before that I had some issues with overheating I took out a load of fluff from around the fan replaced the heat conducting paste and it subsequently was fine for good few months - upon inspection this doesn t seem to be an issue right now and the laptop isn t getting hot even when left on - The battery isn t great but I have tried the above ways of starting with and without it in case it was generating heat - I think I may have had some issues when I updated Avast Antivirus last time but to my knowledge it hasn t updated recently Searches have suggested overheating bad hard disk conflicting software prob antivirus and motherboard failure Any insight would be welcomed - I am a bit stuck without it Thanks Stephen nbsp

A few weeks ago my wife's laptop had some malware. She ran a microsoft security essentials scan and that got rid of it. However, microsoft security essentials kept popping up warning about the malware it had already removed. So she ran a full scan that confirmed the malware was taken care of.

Since she ran the full scan, she's only been able to connect to the internet in safe mode.

Someone on another message board suggested a driver problem. We attempted to download the drivers to no avail--for various reasons the drivers won't download. In any case I don't think that's the problem...Dell states the drivers are only applicable to systems I don't think her computer has.

Other than that, her computer seems to be working fine.

She has a Windows XP, Internet Explorer 7. I think her laptop is an inspiron.

Hello. then do a safe mode scan next. Reboot into Safe Mode with Networking How to enter safe mode(XP/Vista)Using the F8 MethodRestart your computer. When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu. Select the option for Safe Mode with Networking using the arrow keys. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode. Next run Superantisypware (SAS): Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home UsersDouble-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation. An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program. If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here. Double-click on the hyperlink for Download Installer and save SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to your desktop. Then double-click on SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to install the definitions.)In the Main Menu, click the Preferences... button.Click the Scanning Control tab.Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):Close browsers before scanning.Scan for tracking cookies.Terminate memory threats before quarantining.Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer. On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive. On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer. After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor. Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.Click Close to exit the program. If you have a problem downloading, installing or getting SAS to run, try downloading and using the SUPERAntiSpyware Portable Scanner instead. Save the randomly named file (i.e. SAS_1710895.COM) to a usb drive or CD and transfer to the infected computer. Then double-click on it to launch and scan. The file is randomly named to help keep malware from blocking the scanner.>>>Please click Start > Run, type inetcpl.cpl in the runbox and press enter.Click the Connections tab and click the LAN settings option.Verify if "Use a proxy..." is checked, if so, UNcheck it and click OK/OK to exit. Now reboot to Normal and run MBAM (MalwareBytes):Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Download Link 1Download Link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. On my main profile my laptop has been freezing. I run safe mode and did a virus scan and didn't find anything. I did a malware scan it was clean. I also used CCleaner. I did a system restore but it only went back a few days and did not help .I tried to go on the "guest" profile that I have and I was able to write this. On my other profile, I couldn't even get far in doing much.

I use Google Chrome and have Windows Media Player open when the computer freezes on the owner account. I use Youtube and email, etc. I do watch online TV thru sites. I am watching one now on this profile and everything is OK. I am just pointing out my habits to explain when this freeze is happening. Any other suggestions?

A:Laptop stuck in bootloop cant so anything even safe mode

Try removing power and battery, hold power button to release residual power, then plug back in and try again.

Try resetting BIOS to defaults, then using key given on first screen to try to boot WIn7 disk, run Startup Repair. Disable Quick Boot to allow all Self-Tests and screen messages during power on.

Set hard drive first to boot in BIOS in case DVD drive is faulty and blocking HD boot.

Try running WD Diagnostics for Flash Stick by booting flash stick to diagnose hard drive.

If flash stick will boot, then try writing WIn7 ISO to flash stick to boot Win7 disk for repairs. Obtaining this media and writing to stick is discussed in Step 1 of Clean Reinstall Windows 7

Sometimes the only way to overcome such a boot loop is to remove the hard drive. If that frees up the DVD to boot then you can try another hard drive, or slave the hard drive to another PC to rescue your data and then wipe with Diskpart Clean Command to clear interfering code so that you can Clean Reinstall Windows 7 in the MSI.

All other steps possible are here for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

Hello and welcome to the forums! My secret agent name on the forums is SweetTech (you can call me ST for short), it's a pleasure to meet you. I am very sorry for the delay in responding, but as you can see we are at the moment being flooded with logs which, when paired with the never-ending shortage of helpers, resulted in the delayed responding to your thread.I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. If you have since resolved the issues you were originally experiencing, or have received help elsewhere, please inform me so that this topic can be closed. If you have not, please adhere to the guidelines below and then follow instructions as outlined further below:Logs from malware removal programs (OTL is one of them) can take some time to analyze. I need you to be patient while I analyze any logs you post. Please remember, I am a volunteer, and I do have a life outside of these forums.
Please make sure to carefully read any instruction that I give you. Attention to detail is important! Since I cannot see or directly interact with your computer I am dependent on you to "be my eyes" and provide as much information as you can regarding the current state of your computer.
If you're not sure, or if something unexpected happens, do NOT continue! Stop and ask!
In Windows Vista and Windows 7, all tools need to be started by right clicking and selecting Run as Administrator!
If I instruct you to download a specific tool in which you already have, please delete the copy that you have and re-download the tool. The reason I ask you to do this is because these tools are updated fairly regularly.
Do not do things I do not ask for, such as running a spyware scan on your computer. The one thing that you should always do, is to make sure sure that your anti-virus definitions are up-to-date!
Please do not use the Attachment feature for any log file. Do a Copy/Paste of the entire contents of the log file and submit it inside your post.
I am going to stick with you until ALL malware is gone from your system. I would appreciate it if you would do the same. From this point, we're in this together ;)
Because of this, you must reply within three days failure to reply will result in the topic being closed!
Lastly, I am no magician. I will try very hard to fix your issues, but no promises can be made. Also be aware that some infections are so severe that you might need to resort to reformatting and reinstalling your operating system.
Don't worry, this only happens in severe cases, but it sadly does happen. Be prepared to back up your data. Have means of backing up your data available.____________________________________________________Rootkit UnHooker (RkU)Please download Rootkit Unhooker from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.Link 1 (.exe file)Link 2 (zipped file)Link 3 (.rar file)In order to use this tool if you downloaded from either of the second two links, you will need to extract the RKUnhookerLE.exe file using a program capable of extracing ZIP and RAR compressed files. Hi all,

I have a HP Pavillion dv4 (Core 2 Duo 2.1Ghz, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, Vista Home Prem. SP1) that's having an odd problem. When I start up normally, after I get to the desktop (approx. 1 minute after starting up) the computer automatically reboots. I've tried multiple times and the same result happens. I also made sure "Automatically restart" under "System Failure" is unchecked. I don't get any sort of error message.

Now, if I start up into safe mode, it works fine. I haven't had a problem with it and it hasn't shut off. It's been up for a few hours now. There isn't a lot of extra software installed on this laptop because it's relatively new. It has Norton Internet Security and Microsoft Office.

Does anyone have an idea how to remedy this problem?

Thanks guys!

A:My laptop won't connect to the internet -- only will in safe mode

First, let's see about accessing the net itself - -

get a command prompt (start->run->cmd OR start->search->cmd)

enter PING 8.8.8.8
and then PING GOOGLE.COM

both of these should show timing results and neither should timeout or have errors.

post back with your results.
