Monitor problem with Compaq FP5315

Q: Monitor problem with Compaq FP5315

Hi. New guy here. I'm an oldtimer...cut my teeth on tubes and ended up as a 2-way radio and power plant tech. Retired at that point and didn't keep up much with the digital age. I have a compaq fp5315 computer monitor with an audio problem....either lots of noise when volume is normal, or at times no noise, but very low volume. Can't find any scematics and don't want to tear it apart until I know a little more about where to look. Is the audio board in the monitor or in the computer tower? The connecting cord checks ok and the usual plug-wiggling doesn't make any difference. If the audio board is in the tower, is the audio coming from the tower a normal low-impedance speaker feed or like a 600 ohm? Don't think it's just a simple speaker problembecause it has two speakers and both sound the same and the odds are that both wouldn't be bad.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

have you tried using another monitor? your monitor could just have taken a turn for the worst, hardware tends to go defective after a while(usually right when the warranty goes out just to piss you off)

Hi folks,
I've looked over the posts and can find no previous post on this subject.
I have a Compaq FP5315 LCD monitor. I can't get the back off. I've found the fours screws (two recessed above the base and two in the bottom corners) and what I think are pressure release clips inside slots in the bottom edge. I've peeled back the label on the center of the back and found what looks like a molding sprew or a glued in plastic plug. This doesn't seem to come out.
Something is still holding this back on. Can any of you assist me?
I've found a user manual and a repair manual. but neither has the dis-assembly instructions.
I'd appreciate any guidance that any of you can provide.
Thanks,
Bill

A:How to open the back of a Compaq FP5315 LCD Monitor

Use a large flat-blade screwdriver, and press it firmly in the crack between the front and back plastic housings. Carefully release the plastic retainers. You might have to twist the screwdriver a bit, but be careful not to mar or crack the plastic too much

I have a friend who has a Compaq computer. It is an older one, I am not sure but I think it is a Presario 5320 but not sure. Any way she started to have a problem with monitor screen jerking to one side. I am thinking that the drivers have been corrupted by a virus or something. I ran Spy Blaster and AVG and found a bunch of stuff that I deleted, I then rebooted and monitor worked flawlessly for about an hour. I shut down and left that was a couple of days ago now she is complaining of the same problem. Any suggestions?

A:Compaq monitor problem!

Most likely either the Monitor itself (my bet) or the video card are developing a problem.

When the screen "jumps to one side" does it distort or just shift over?

Having any color problems as well?

My grandparents have an HP Compaq Presario--they don t have the paperwork on it but they got it in --and for some reason the monitor says quot VGA no input quot and it won t show anything other than that error screen I ve tried it with a different monitor and set of cords and it still won t show anything It s like the computer can t send out visual information The video card is in tight or at least all the cards are in tight I have no idea which one s the video card and the monitor cord isn t loose Also the fan CPU fan is running very loud quick It briefly went back to normal and everything started working again but then it stopped and went back to the error screen and the fan being monitor problem HP/Compaq loud Does it need a new video card or could the monitor port be damaged When they installed it they had the monitor card screwed on way too tight Is the CPU overheating I d appreciate any suggestions nbsp

A:HP/Compaq monitor problem

" Also, the fan (CPU fan?) is running very loud/quick. It briefly went back to normal, and everything started working again, but then it stopped and went back to the error screen and the fan being loud. "

The fan is defective and needs replacing. Whichever one it is(fan) most probably is causing the mobo to overheat and thusly, no video.

I've just recently been afflicted with a problem concerning the Compaq FS740 model. I'm as surprised as can be when it happened, as I have no idea how it occurred. I was browsing the internet when the screen just suddenly changed the magnitude of its concavity (the screen took on a concave shape, but I didn't even fool with the On-Screen Display). I tried to use the "Pincushion" setting on the OSD (along with every other option), but to no avail; none of the options seem to affect the monitor. Please help me resolve this issue, thank you very much.

A:Problem connecting my Compaq Monitor to My Laptop

Hi there @MarenFrancis, May the Forums be with you! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel.  I understand that your display is not showing any output when connected to your Lenovo laptop.  I am happy to help with this. Does the built in screen on the laptop still work? Can you test the S2022a  connected to any other device to see if it receives anything?Have you tried a different video cable to connect the display? Also if you have another display, try connecting it to the same video connection on the Lenovo laptop, and see if you get the same type of response as with the S2022a. If all devices, connected to that port have the same type of non-display screen, then the issue is going to be with the laptop itself. Possibly the port, or the graphics card, or something more software related. In that case you should contact Lenovo Support. Please let me know whether that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

If the 2nd laptop is exactly the same model you can put the hard drive from the problem laptop into the other laptop and, if there is no problem with that hard drive, it should boot into Windows.

See how that goes and let us know. What model Compaq laptop are they ?

My Compaq CM 350 Flat panel Monitor just went dark, You can still see some of the image however it is very dark and adjusting the brightness dose nothing.

A:Compaq CM 350 Monitor

Usually, this is a video graphics card problem.
Shut down. Then cold boot to SAFE MODE by pressing the <F8> key once per second as soon as you press the on switch.
Then you will often find that you get a bright screen if it is a bad video graphics port or card. If it is dark still, put the monitor on a friend's computer to see if it is still dark.
If it is, it needs an inverter which costs $50 to $75 in a repair shop, plus labor. You are better off buying a new monitor from Samsung, Sharp, or LG.

A:Housing Removal for Compaq Monitor

Are we talking about an old CRT type monitor? If so, the insides can be very dangerous. Voltages stored in capacitors can be powerful enough to cause injury or worse.. It has been years since I have opened a CRT Monitor, and it was not a Compaq branded monitor. There may be latch tabs that would have to flexed to get casing panels off. Be careful of the front panel, there may be a Degaussing coil around the from of the CRT that could be damaged.

I own a Compaq Evo 1020 laptop. I bought it in 2003. I am out of job and cant afford to replace it at the moment. I just got myself a new battery and new hard disc for it.
It was working fine until few days ago when I observed that each time I move the laptop and the monitor shakes with the movement, the display goes black and vanishes.
I have observed that the problem happens both when on battery and also when being charged.
Could it be that the laptop screen has a loose connection to the graphics card ? If yes, how do I fix it?
What else could be a cause? Please help.

Well, sounds like the connection to the monitor is bad. To fix this you need to open up your laptop, follow the wire leads from the monitor to the GPU, and make sure the connection is solid.

Hello! It seems that your CMOS battery is dead. Look into your tower and you will see a quarter size battery maybe a 2032 or 2046 or simliar. With care take that battery out and replace it with the same type. You can get them at Radio Shack. Put it in then inside the tower there should be a jumper called "Clear CMOS" (everything unplugged power, mouse, monitor etc...) Move the jumper from the 1-2 position to the 2-3 position. Wait about 5 minutes, then move the jumper back to the 1-2 position. Plug in everything and power up the machine.

Hi everyone:

Does anybody know of a freeware program that monitors a Compaq Presario 5838 cpu temperature? Motherboard Monitor 5.0 is wonderful but does not work with the 5838 board.

Thanks a bunch.

My Compaq Colour 17 inch Monitor, model 7500's display area has shrunken width-wise!
Through the settings in the display tab and as well as through the keys on the monitor, I succeded to increase the diplay area's height but the display width seems to have permanently shrunken as a gap of 0.7 cms appears on both left and right hand side of the display and the display width does not increase further.
Someone please help to remove this abnormality on my monitor!

I have a computer from 1998; I think it's a Pentium 3 (maybe 2; I don't remember). About a year ago, it started connecting to the monitor very sporadically. Eventually, it outright died. At the time, it seemed very likely that it had picked up a virus. We bought a new computer, but would like to drag some of the old stuff off of the Compaq, if I could get it up and working.

It beeps and clicks and whirls away happily...but the screen remains absolutely blank. It used to work if I switched monitors, but only temporarily. The keyboard does not seem to be receiving power, either. Hard to say with the mouse, since I'm getting nothing.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Data Recovery

Check to see if the old computer's hard drive is compatible with a hard drive connection on your new machine. There are two issues, the type of connector and the speed settings.

Your old computer's hard drive is undoubtedly designed to mate with an IDE connector. Most computer mother boards with IDE connectors have at least two IDE connectors. If your new computers has IDE connectors, you may need to free up one by disconnecting a CD or zip drive. Configure your old computer's hard drive as a "slave," connect the power cable, and then connect the IDE ribbon cable. When you turn on your machine, if the drive is operational and compatible, you should be able to read the contents of the files. I am not an expert, but I believe the older slower ATA/100 hard drives will work with mother boards designed for faster ATA/133 hard drives, but of course the read / write speeds will be at the slower rate.

After finding that you can examine the file directory of the old computer's hard drive, but before opening any of the files, it is a good idea to have a virus search program, such as Norton or MacAfree, check the files for computer viruses. Once you are certain that the files you want are virus free, copy them across.

If your new computer does not have an IDE connector on its motherboard, perhaps because it uses one of the newer harddrives with a serial connector, search for someone that does have a computer to which you can connect the hard drive from your old machine.

A:Compaq Armada 3500 Laptop Won't Boot Up Past Compaq Screen...

Well you should be able to access the CMOS Bios by using either the delete, F1 or F2 keys (sometimes f10). Then under the Bios you should see the Boot Sequence and be able to change it from there. But either way, you should be able to get past the Compaq splash screen. Try setting your boot sequence and see if that helps.

Hello lilevee22,

Before the problem started was anything added to or installed on the system?

Try booting to Last Known Good or Safe Mode.

Restart the computer during the boot process repeatedly tap "F8" you should get

the Advanced Options.

Let us know if able to get the system to boot with either option.

A:Compaq Presario SR1810NX Not Getting Past Compaq Logo Screen

Try a power drain.
1. Unplug power cord
2. Hold power button in for 60 seconds or more then let go
3. Plug in power cord
4. turn on the power and try to boot to setup (BIOS)

If it enters the BIOS then you should be able to just press F5 to reset to defaults and then F10 to save and exit. The PC should work now.

However, if after the power drain you still can not get in the BIOS than there is a MAJOR problem which would require some type of repair.

So why is it when I remove the ram it gives me more ram. Is the stick bad. The only thing that I did to the computer was upgrade to windows 98.

Surprising thing is, I tried the lcd with it's signal cable and inverter on another laptop and it worked. Could it be that the motherboard is fried? Otherwise if anybody knows a way around it, please let me know. Thanks

This sounds like a power supply issue in that the inverter is not getting the correct supply. Is there a fuse on the supply, some laptops do have them.

I have the silver theme enabled on WinXP, and by default, the highlighting color is gray, I can hardly see the gray on the second monitor when the background is white because its so washed out

Hi, my brother said that he started getting this problem when he bumped his desk. The screen went black with streaks of red running down the screen after he had bumped it. His computer is connected by DVI, and when he used the HDMI port in the monitor for XBox the image was working fine. He hasn't been able to test and see if it's just the DVI port that has been broken as he doesn't have any other devices that use DVI in the house.

What he would like to know if is if this a problem with his computer or monitor. It only started happening when he bumped his desk. The picture is where we are at now.

A:Image distorted on monitor, problem with Windows or monitor?

It could be either the monitor, the video adapter in the computer or the cable. Easiest way to test is with a different monitor and try that your monitor on a different computer.

A:Solved: Monitor or Tower problem? Monitor is blinking on and off.

Video card is busted. When in safe mode, the video card's drivers are not loaded, so the card does not function at "full blast". It will not cause trouble because of that.
Dell model would help finding a replacement, but it can well be assumed that there's a PCI-E 16x slot for add-on graphics. This would be a cheap replacement in that case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121302

This is all an assumption on the most propable cause. The problem could also be your power supply or motherboard, but those are pretty unlikely.

I've searched some forums and while i have found all sorts of dual monitor problems i haven't found this one.

I have a MSI M670 laptop ( with nvidia 6100Go graphics card ) and a Samsung SyncMaster T240HD. I always connected my monitor with a VGA cable on my windows xp and everything worked fine.
After i've installed Windows 7 when i connect the monitor to my laptop automatically the laptop monitor is disabled and the Samsung becomes the primary display.
If i press windows_key+P Computer Only is selected and whatever i select from the list ( duplicate, extend, projector only ) nothing happens and Computer Only is always selected.

In the Nvidia panel under the "Set up multiple displays" option after i connect the Samsung it becomes the only option so i cannot revert to my laptop display whatever i do.
Rigurous Display Detection does not help at all.

Any ideas ?

system recovery disc is not the same as installation disc. You should have a disc that came with the computer that has Windows Vista and all the drivers on it, a system recovery disc are discs you made yourself that has information on it you want to keep. Downloading the latest drivers from HP's web site will assure that the drivers are up to date and is a good thing to do. Not knowing whether your problems are caused by incorrect or corrupted drivers I can't say if this action will be a solution.

If by "their copies" you are asking if it is OK to use pirated software the answer is NO. It is called stealing. Furthermore, often those copies come with malware embedded. Alternatives include paying by check, using a service such as PayPal (I think you can tie one to a checking account) or paying cash at a (physical) store.

Hi,
I have an old compaq PC ( 20GB,750 MHz AMD Duron,192 MB Ram ). I am trying to install Windows XP home edition. The first phase of installation went smoothly where the folders were copied from the CD. In the second phase where the PC would boot from harddisk, I get the following error :
NTLDR: couldn't open drive multi(0) disk(0) rdisk(0) partition(1)

I have extensively searched the web and it seems like this is more of a problem with compaq PCs. Some suggest changing jumper position, some suggest reformatting, some suggesting using FAT32 and I have tried all the options over and over with no success and get the same error message.

Could you help?

Thanks
Mahesh

i suggest going into properties and checking the allignment of the picture aka the borders. if you have an option for the quality, if it is lower it should print faster.

My Compaq Presario 2100 will not print from the LPT1 port. The devise manager says this device is working perfectly. Also the port I plug my mouse into does not work either. Only USB devices work now. I have to print my MS-DOS documents through a parallel port. I was told this port is together with the mother board and is not worth repairing. But it is only one year old. Anyone know what to do?

It could still be a power supply problem. They produce a number of different voltages for use in various places and tend to break down one bit at a time when they get old. Do you have another computer you cold borrow one from to test?

My friend has a Compaq 56020WM that has been working ok.
When he went to start it this morning nothing happened.
This is what happens when you hit the power button:
1. Green power light comes on and stays on.
2. HDD light flashes once and only once
3. Monitor light stays in no input mode (amber light). When I disconnect monitor from computer light turns to green no input message comes up.

And this is the way it stays

I have a compaq model 4090US computer. I recently upgraded my memory to 512 MG of Ram 1 128 chip, came with the computer, bought another 128 and 256. When I installed all three chips in the all three slots the computer started to boot and recognized the full amot of Ram, but the in the middle of boot up it would freeze up. this happened several times, now I have the 256K chip as well as the 128K I bought, and the computer is fine. I dont have the original chip in the computer. I asked several people and they found this very unusal. Can somebody help me or explain why I cant use the whold 512K of ram

A:compaq memory problem

are all 3 chips the same type? (pc100, pc133, etc) its not supposed to matter if you mix pc100 and pc133 but some boards are picky.

also, make sure that you have the largest chip in slot0 (first slot).

if it continues, then its pretty much down to incompatable/bad ram chip or a problem with the board/slot.

Hi All

Wonder whether anyone can help i use a lot off my desk top machines on my TV at home and they all work fine. However when using my Laptop (Compaq NX500) the picture is always black and white.

Any one have any ideas how to sort this out?

Many thanks

A:Compaq NX5000 TV out problem

Check the settings in the video display area, make sure that it is set for the same system as your TV uses.

There is PAL, NTSC and SECAM. Setting the wrong one gives B/W output.

US is NTSC, Oceania and parts of Europe are PAL, France is SECAM....

I'm working on a Compaq Pesario. Its about 3 years old. I'm not sure what processer it has. I think its celeron but unsure of speed. It has Windows XP Home. The problem is my friend took the heatsink and fan off the prcessor to get a number off of it but he didn't take the processor out. He put it back on and it would not do anything so I looked at it and it was the power supply so I just replaced it with a new one. Everything is getting power but it won't boot and there is no video. The fans run the cdrom drive works but nothing. Could it be the cpu gone bad?

You will probaly have to go into the BIOS and disable the onboard sound, or (and you will have to consult the manual of the pc or motherboard for this) disable it with a jumper setting...

Ok i was trying to put in a slave hard drive into my old computer. and it did not work. Heres the problem though. When i put everything back to the way it was, and turned it on; all that happens is it starts to boot. it gets to the first screen(which is the compaq symbol) and there is a hour-glass in the bottom coner. Anyways it nevers makes it past a certain point. I think it may have someting to do with the hard drive. or maybe its a mother board thing. Also, is it possible to put in a slave hard drive into a computer that only has one ribbon cable. Can I not just put on a new ribbon with 2 plugs and put it in? Anyhoo thats to whoever can help me.
The specs for the computer are...
164 mb ram
pentium 1 mmx
compaq motherboard (most things are stock compaq stuff)

A:Compaq Deskpro problem

You can add another drive indeed. You just need to get a IDE cable with an additional plug. You can have 2 drives per IDE connector on the motherboard - thats usually a total of 4 drives.

Make sure your drive is prpoerly connected. Makes ure both ends of the ribbon cable are connected securely. Also make sure the power cable is connected as well. You can also check to make sure you have not bent or broken any pins on the drive or motherboard. The red strip on the IDE cable faces the power connector on the drive and PIN 1 on the motherboard. Also if you changed the jumper on the hard drive or another drive, make sure you put it back to where it was originally, either Cable Select or Master.

Once you get the old drive going, you can get an 80 wire IDE cable with three connectors. Then jumper the new drive to Slave or to Cable Select if the other drive is using Cable Select as well. Then you'll need to partition and format the new drive before you can use it. That will depend on the operating system you have.

Go into your BIOS and choose default settings, save and exit. If still problems try replacing the Battery on the Motherboard. It usually looks like a large flat watch battery.

A:Problem with PSU (for Compaq SR1360)

This is more than one SR1360 model of the Compaq Presario desktop, so we need to determine which one you have.
What's the exact part/product number(P/N) on yours?

The "Bestec" ATX300 is a low-quality 300W power supply that comes in many HP/Compaq desktops.
Yours is several years old, so it's very possible its power supply needs to be replaced.

If you have power outages at your home on regular basis, you should invest in and use a battery-backup unit with your desktop.
I have one connected to each of my desktop systems.
If there's a power flicker or the power goes out for a few minutes, my desktops keep running without interruption.

I have recently built a new box with a clean install of Windows 7. Initially I only had 1 monitor and things worked fine. I decided to add a second monitor and that is when the problems started.

When the system boots both monitors display all of the bootup information and and both monitors display the Windows 7 Startup screens. This tells me both monitors and connections are good.

Once Windows loads only monitor 2 has a display on it. Monitor 1 is blank. I have check and both monitors are running the same, and latest drivers. I have gone into windows and it shows two monitors, but I can not get a display on monitor 1.

This is the first time I have had dual monitors so it may very well be a user error, but I am pretty computer literate.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

It installed mobility radeon 7500 adapter i believe. Does anyone have any advice. Also, when i look at the display properties, it says i have multiple monitors attached when i do not.
Any help would be much appreciated.

A:Laptop monitor all choppy - monitor problem?

First, the multiple monitor issue: common with laptops, as they can support the primary LCD and/or an external monitor.

Next, go to dell.com and see if there any drivers for your laptop's lcd. This could solve the problems your having.

There is no easy way or one solution for Spool32 errors.
You will have to go through the long process of finding the cause.

The LCD backlight has gone bad or there is a broken wire connection to the inverter or elsewhere to the LCD panel... Take the laptop in for service. The LCD panel itself should be ok
