I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: My laptop freezes for about 2 minutes

Network likely

Though Win7 is much more tolerant of enabled/disabled Networking, my experience has typically been that when a PC "freezes" for a couple of minutes, it's usually because it is attempting to access a Network resource that's not there, and it takes about two minutes for the system to "time out" and give up polling the network.

Whether you've ever had your notebook on a wired or wireless network, you didn't say. But when a Windows PC chokes for two minutes, that's almost always the cause.

Check your Home Network settings, and make sure your notebook isn't trying to access any remote drives/resources.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. A:Toshiba laptop freezes up after a few minutes.

sounds like your hard drive is starting to fail on you. if i were you i would locate another laptop hard drive, maybe you have an extra one or from a friend. then install it in your computer and see if it still freezes up. formatting will not help. how old is the hard drive? if its newer it could still be under warranty and you may be able to get it replace for free. i have a western digital hard drive and it has a 5 year warranty. once u are sure that its the hard drive buy a new one or get it replaced with the warranty if you have one.

I have an HP Pavilion that is less than a year old. I've had no problems with it until yesterday. It has developed a problem whereby it hangs and completely freezes after being on for five minutes or so. I've tried to run malware bytes and Spybot detectors but of course they can't finish because it freezes. Where should I go from here?

A:Laptop hangs/freezes after five minutes

The symptoms you describe could be symptomatic of a variety of things to include hardware/software issues, overheating caused by a failed processor fan, bad memory (RAM), failing or underpowered power supply, CPU overheating, motherboard, video card, faulty or unsigned device drivers, CMOS battery going bad, BIOS and firmware problems, dirty hardware components, programs hanging or unresponsive in the background, and even malware. If the computer is overheating, it usually begins to shutdown/restart on a more regular basis. Some rootkits can trigger BSODs, shutdowns and various stop error/shutdown messages so it would also be wise to perform a scan for this type of malware. If you are experiencing a lot of crashes and not finding anything in Event Viewer or from troubleshooting the error messages, then perform an anti-rootkit scan to at least investigate that as a possible cause.Sophos Anti-rootkitPanda AntiRootkitAvira AntiRootkitAVG Anti-RootkitBefore performing an ARK scan it is recommended to do the following to ensure more accurate results and avoid common issues that may cause false detections.Disconnect from the Internet or physically unplug you Internet cable connection.Clean out your temporary files. Close all open programs, scheduling/updating tasks and background processes that might activate during the scan including the screensaver. Temporarily disable your anti-virus and real-time anti-spyware protection. After starting the scan, do not use the computer until the scan has completed. When finished, re-enable your anti-virus/anti-malware (or reboot) and then you can reconnect to the Internet.Note: Not all hidden components detected by ARKs are malicious. It is normal for a Firewall, some Anti-virus and Anti-malware software (ProcessGuard, Prevx1, AVG AS), sandboxes, virtual machines and Host based Intrusion Prevention Systems (HIPS) to hook into the OS kernal/SSDT in order to protect your system. You should not be alarmed if you see any hidden entries created by these software programs after performing a scan.If you're not finding any malware then its sounds like the latter problem. When was the last time you cleaned the inside of your computer? Dust restricts the airflow and prevents proper cooling. This in turn can cause overheating and faulty processor fans which can result in unexpected shutdowns, random restarts, booting problems, etc. If If you use a notebook, they get dirty too and need to be cleaned.Clean out the vents on the computer with a can of compressed air to ensure that they are not clogged with dust.Unplug the computer, open the case and clean out any dust and debris you find inside. Be careful not to aim the compressed air directly at the circuit board or electronic components.Check all the electrical connections and make sure the fans are all operational.Remove the cards and RAM modules, clean the contacts and reseat them.Check the heat sink on the processor to ensure it is not blocked with dust or debris.Remove the CPU's cooling unit and clean the fins on the heat sink that sits under the CPU with a can of
compressed air.Feel the CPU heatsink when it powers down. It should be warm to very warm but not hot.Inspect the thermal compound between the CPU and heat sink as it can deteriorate over time so. You may need to remove it, scrape away the old thermal gel that makes contact with the processor, then apply a very thin coat of fresh thermal gel on the surface and fit the heat sink back in place again.Monitor the temperature of your CPU, motherboard, hard disks, voltages, and fan speeds.? I have a gateway T2868 I think on Windows Vista. The problem still persisted after I did system restore? (the one where all your data is wiped and goes back to factory settings).

Also the laptop is very slow in starting up, but it does get to the Desktop window. My uncle did mention that the fan doesn't move after startup. Could that have burned the CPU and caused the slowness and the freezing? For some reason I thought it was a hard drive problem, and bought a new one. My uncle doesn't want to go through all the effort of installing it since he thinks it's damage caused by the fan breaking down.

Any thoughts on what the problem could be?

A:Laptop freezes after 10 minutes after startup

The fan has to be fixed. The machine has to be able to cool itself.

A:Laptop freezes several minutes after startup.

Blow out all fans with compressed air. Make sure the bottom of the laptop is well ventilated. If it is exceptionally hot, you may need a Laptop cooler. Boot into Safe Mode and go to Start/Run and type chkdsk /R and hit enter. Now type a Y and reboot the computer. The Check Disk utility will run at next boot up.
If you still have problems, download the ISO image of Seatools for DOS and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn. Boot off of the newly created CD and run the HDD diagnostic tests.

Hi:

To be perfectly honest here/my opinion only, I don't think you have the patience to fix this.

You know there are reasons to shut down the PC correctly every time.
One thing Windows likes to do is to put things "away" after you are done
"using things" It is like cleaning up the kitchen when you are done cooking.
Not letting Windows complete the automatic check is also a bad idea. Also no anti virus program is not good.

When you press the On/Off button, you are not closing it down, you are crashing it.

Probably your best bet, is to take it some place and pay to have it fixed.

For a few days now my Dell Inspiron has been lagging/freezing every few minutes for a couple of seconds.

It seems to be happening no matter what i'm doing on the laptop - playing music, playing a game and even when it's idle. The whole system freezes and if there is audio playing it makes a strange buzzing noise. Any video playing freezes and the mouse freezes too. It is only for 2 seconds at most and isn't effecting the running of the laptop, it's more of an annoyance.

I've run a full scan with Avast! and Malware Bytes. Malware came up clean, Avast! found a few low level things that have been deleted or moved to the chest/vault.

I've also run ChkDsk, which found a few errors and, i'm assuming, fixed them. I left it running over night as it took a few hours to complete.

Any help or advice is hugely appreciated!!

A:Dell laptop freezes every few minutes for a second or 2

Work through the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 starting with hardware tests, system file checker, establishing a Clean Boot, resolving repeat errors, using System Resources given, and then the other steps which often turn up the problem.

Does the PC still have the factory install? If so that is the worst possible install of Win7 one can have, larded with bloatware and duplicate utilities which interfere with better versions built into Win7. That's why most tech enthusiasts won't even run such an install but instead Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Everything needed is in the blue link to get and keep a perfect install just like a million others have done without a single complaint.

Until then you can Clean Up Factory Bloatware.

My laptop freezes after 5-10 minutes of opening. I wait for 2 hours to see if its gonna respond again, but no.  Well.I scan the disk using ''chkdsk'' command in CMD, then after that i reboot it then everything is working as fine. but later on after 30-1 hour it freezes again. it happens everytime. Should i put my DDS Log here?

A:My Laptop Freezes after 5-10 minutes startup

You can not post a DDS log in the Windows forums, this would need to be posted in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum.  But at this time there is no indication that this is an infection.  Please download and install Speccy to provide us with information about your computer.  When  FileHippo opens, click on Download latest version in the upper right pane. When Speccy opens you will see a screen similar to the one below.  Click on File which is outlined in red in the screen above, and then click on Publish Snapshot. The following screen will appear, click on Yes.  The following screen will appear, click on Copy to Clipboard.  In your next post right click inside the Reply to Topic box, then click on Paste.  This will load a link to the Speccy log.  Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.  Checkmark the following checkboxes: • List last 10 Event Viewer log• List Installed Programs• List Users, Partitions and Memory size.• List Minidump Files  Click on Go to start the scan.  Once it is finished highlight the text, copy it and paste it in your next post.

A:Newly Restored Laptop Freezes Within Minutes

First of all, how did they do on the drivers? In your Device Manager, do you see any question marks or exclamation points? (Windows key + Pause key to open System Properties, Hardware tab, Device Manager button)You might try going to the Gateway site and seeing if you can find any drivers you need, perhaps even updated versions.Did anyone ever determine why the original install failed? You can run a memory checker such as Memtest 86 or Microsoft Memory Test to see if there's anything wrong with memory, a common cause of freezing.

Laptop 5 boot I minutes after The Intel Duo Core T now runs at about degrees C when Laptop freezes 5 minutes after I boot up every time... active I ran a full quot Vaio quot diagnostics and everything checked out fine I tested the memory x GB and it didn't find anything Removed one and booted it up froze then swapped it for the other Still froze ANY help would be awesome A laptop is difficult to use if I have a time limit Other than the freezing I haven't noticed any speed decrease until the last seconds before it begins locking up Thanks

my laptop would just freeze and this is what new i did to it yesterday-----

yesterday i installed malware bytes because my disk space was drastically decreasing and it went to 0 bytes from 2 gb in no time. After scanning malbytes showed certain files that were infected and i moved them to quarantine. This didn't help so i deleted certain files to free disk space.
also malbytes keeps on showing a message that "access blocked to a malicious website with a certain ip address."

But today when i switched on my laptop it just hangs after a while and even task manager won't work, no program would open but it is working fine in safe mode.

some information about the laptop-

Intel core 2 duo
2gb ram [email protected] ghz

Hi.
I had my laptop for about a year and a half and I never had a issue with it. Recently, I bought battlefield 3 and updated the drivers for it to work. When that was done, I decided that it would be a good idea to clean out all the dust for everything to run nice and smooth... So I sprayed the laptop with the appropriate spray, plugged it back in and started playing. Ever since then, every time I start my laptop, it freezes after about 15 minutes of use and I need to shut it down manually. I tried to install the old drivers but with no luck... it still freezes... I have a friend that cleaned his laptop about 2 weeks ago and he had the same problem... does anyone know whats wrong and have a solution!?!?

Thx!

"So I sprayed the laptop with the appropriate spray"...

what was the appropriate spray, and where did you spray it? On the keyboard? In the fan vents?

Hi All, A little stumped...
My laptop has been working fine up until now. It was only purchased November last year so not even a year old yet.
When it's left idle for more than 30 minutes it freezes up and crashes, can't do anything with it, have to hold the power butting to power down and reboot.
Highly annoying as it can't just be left and means I have to keep it busy when streaming films and music.
Has anyone got any fix or advice on this one?
Found a few other threads with people having a similar problem but no fixes.

A:Laptop Freezes/Crashes After 30 minutes Idle Time

Hi Bobbie, welcome to 7F

You could try, and go to >Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options and create an Always On Power plan that you would have to switch to before you go off to do other chores or errands.

But, there could be bigger problems here, and I would suggest that you run http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html so we can get to the cause of your problem.

A:Inspiron 15 inch i7 3543 Laptop freezes for minutes at a time during normal operation

Hi IVANB303,
Looks like you have basically tried most possible required steps to isolate the issue.
Restart the system and check in Safe mode - http://bit.ly/1LHcO2c if it works fine.
Create a local admin account and check if it works - http://bit.ly/1JoFhcw
Run a stress test through Support Assist - http://dell.to/1NEc1Y4
Also, run an extended test on the HDD through onboard diagnostics - restart and press f12 key on starup - and check for any possible errors.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Keep us updated.

A:Windows freezes up for 1-2 minutes a few minutes after startup

Open msconfig and on the General tab choose "selective startup" (uncheck all three items) and reboot. Does the problem still occur? If not, start adding items back to msconfig one or two at a time, rebooting after each change, until the problem reappears and you'll have identified the offending process. This is clearly a time consuming process, but it is the best way to determine if some process loading with the system is the cause of your problem.

Did you remember to re-install ALL proper Win8 drivers after the clean install ? ?Neither of those NVidia apps need to be in the stsrtup group BTW though thats likely not the issue...

A:Windows 7 64 bit freezes after few minutes. Explorer hangs and then freezes.

Unless the new hardware you fitted is almost identical to the old, which I doubt, you should do a clean install of Windows. The main reason is the drivers from the old stuff are still around and are messing things up.

EDIT : and welcome to TSG.

A:everything freezes after a few minutes

Update: I disconnected my monitor and rebooted (I'm on a laptop with a monitor connected to it)

It's been running a malware scan for almost 15 minutes now which is much longer than usual. Could the freezing be related to my video-card and the second screen?

(I'm running this scan in safemode with network - can't run scan without internet)

Update2: After 18 minutes the scan froze, and I had to reboot. Very frustrating I fear there's no other option than to backup and re-format. But I'll wait to here if I can get any feedback from here
update 3: Another thing I noticed that's odd is that "Microsoft Windows is no longer responding" or something similar. I've had this laptop for 3 years and I've never had a bluescreen on it before, nor have I experienced that windows stopped responding. Normally it's just a program or explorer.exe that stops responding, which happens now and then, but not windows.
Any thoughts?

I have 7 running on a Sony laptop. After 5 to 15 minutes, it freezes. Everything just stops, no blue screen, no response from keyboard or mouse. Ctl, alt del does nothing. Hard Drive light is on. Hard shutdown is the only way to get it off. I have been able to run virus check and found nothing. It won't stay up long enough to do a dish scan or upgrade it to Windows 10. I am a basic end user who can use the standard tools but I am not into the internals of a PC. Any help would be appreciated.

I just got a Geforce 2 MX 400, and when I try playing GTA 3, it freezes after about a minute. When I used my onboard video, an Intel 82810E Graphics controller, everything worked fine, but slow. That's why I got the Video Card. I don't know whether this is because of the Geforce, but I guessed so because everything worked fine with the onboard video.

GTA 3 freezes for no reason at all. I could be in the options, which doesn't take up any performance, power, you know what I mean, and it would freeze.

My work PC freezes after about 15 minutes from starting. I can't do anything at that point and I need to restart it by pressing power button. After second start it runs normally for the rest of the day. Next day when I switch it on it happens again and it's been like that for the last week. It froze on IE, Firefox and Outlook. I checked event viewer but don't really know what to look for as only errors that I've found were that of unexpected machine restart. I've checked installed programs and there's nothing there recently. Any ideas?

Hi,

After coming home and being told by my wife that "the PC is not working", I took a look - it was consistently freezing after only a few minutes. So, I logged on in Safe Mode and consecutively ran my various counter virus software (MS Essentials, Malaware Bytes and Spybot), which removed/fixed various issues they detected. This didn't seem to help.

So I Restored to my earliest log. I then ran Windows on Normal Mode and it seems to work OK, but I still sense there may still be viral infection.

I then downloaded "Hijackthis" and ran it, without fixing/deleting any files . I have attached the log - I would be very grateful indeed if you could take a look and let me know if you spot any anomalies?

Thanks very much indeed

S

How many antivirus/antimalware programs do you have installed? Select 1 antivirus program (MSE) and ditch all those tool bars

Upgrading the BIOS could be worth it, but it could also ruin the system if the installation or wrong BIOS is applied.

When does this warning appear?

A:Computer Freezes after some minutes

You have a 0x124 hardware bugcheck. If the system is still under warranty, I would recommend sending it in to have diagnostic tests done and any bad hardware replaced.

   Warning
Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!

For your hardware stop 0x124 crash, read through Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try and use the following hardware checks to supplement that link.
If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

If you have an SSD, make sure the following are up to date:SSD firmware
BIOS Version
Chipset Drivers
Hard disk controller drivers/SATA drivers
If you have a Marvell IDE ATA/ATAPI device, make sure the drivers are up to date from the Intel site or Marvell site and not from your motherboard/vendor support site.

Run all but the advanced tests with SeaTools for HDDs.SeaTools for Windows

SeaTools for DOS
Monitor temperatures during the following tests. Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures. Real Temp is a good CPU temperature monitor.
Speccy - System Information - Free Download will monitor all hardware temperatures.
HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools can be inaccurate for CPU temperatures, but is a good program for GPU temperature monitoring.
Use FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net to test the graphics card GPU. Let it run until the GPU temperatures even out or until the GPU temperatures reach a dangerous level (you can find the max temperature for your card on either the nVidia or AMD sites; if you are not sure, ask us). The goal is to get a steady temperature, find out if the GPU is overheating, or to see if there are any artifacts present in the test itself: look for strange pixelated patterns on the screen or colors that do not look like they belong. Then use the |MG| Video Memory Stress Test 1.7.116 Download to test your graphics card memory. Let the memory test run for at least seven passes; the more the better.

Run Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 to determine any hardware problems. Run all three tests for a few hours each. If you get errors, stop the test and post back here.

Follow the steps for doing CPU stress test using IntelBurnTest

Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

Remember to read closely through Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try for the crash.

Well, for the last three months, I've been getting random 1-3 minute freezes at a time. This happens during any activities that I may be partaking in, either it be gaming or even just chatting on skype/facebook. It used to happen a lot less often than it currently does and I just dealt with it but now it's become increasingly annoying so I figured I'd check out some forums. I did get one BSOD a couple of weeks ago for the first time. I put the PC together myself and this was my second build. I checked out the page file business and nothing changed.

I'm not sure what other information I can provide that will be useful but let me know what else I can do to help out. Thanks in advance!

A:PC freezes for three minutes at a time

could be a number of things including a virus or possibly even faulty hardware (less likely). a lot of freeze ups can be traced back to heat problems and/or an incorrectly configured BIOS. i can't say what your experience level is but if this isn't your first build i'm gonna say you know the basics and how to troubleshoot more common things.

firstly, the dxdiag log looks pretty normal to me, and since there aren't any problems listed i would be looking more at the audio or video drivers themselves... with the latter of the two being the more likely candidate for problems. directx installation is pretty cut and dry but sometimes graphics drivers can just be "broken" on certain machines, so I would start there. are you using the latest graphics drivers? i'm guessing you are not overclocking so i wont ask about 3rd party apps or anything but you'll also want to make sure that the BIOS is configured correctly and at least double check the RAM timings. i always put these in myself using the factory timings that are located on the modules or on the packaging. memory can cause a number of different issues if not configured correctly.

so i would start there and post back with the results. good luck!

Hi,
I have a dell inspiron N4010 windows 7 operating system and for some reason, after two minutes of me logging on to my computer the screen suddenly dims, the mouse disappears, and the entire computer freezes. No matter how many times i restart my computer the same thing happens. I don't have this problem though when i'm in safe mode. but when i'm in safe mode, i don't have access to my virus detection software, so i can't scan for a virus either in normal or safe mode. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,

P.S. If it means anything, lately my computer has stopped recognizing it's charger.

A:Computer freezes after two minutes

Hi piano-man,

My name is Ravi and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell.

In this case I would suggest you to create a new user account by booting in to safe mode and give that account admin rights. Once the account is created boot the system in to normal mode and choose new user account to log in. Observe the system in that account and also run the Virus scan in that account and check.

Steps to create a new account:

Boot the system in safe mode Click start and in the search tab type User account and open it.
Choose Manage another accounts and click on Create a new account.

Please reply with the Outcome.
Thanks & Regards

So basically my computer just won't stop freezing up It happens especially when and after I've watched a video file and sometimes I think not sure otherwise such as when I play games The problem seems to stay until I've restarted the computer I've had this problem for a long time now and it just won't go away When the computer freezes up it 1 computer 5 freezes minutes every so. up second or for My really freezes up at the point where it was even to the extent where the current sound being played freezes as well and you can basically just hear a prolonged tone assuming I was listening to music for the full duration My computer freezes up for 1 second every 5 minutes or so. of the freeze I've done something to solve it for maybe a few days two times and that My computer freezes up for 1 second every 5 minutes or so. would be to reset bios through that battery thing in the computer and cleaned the computer from dust So this helps for a few days but then it's back just as before I need to solve this issue and know if it is software or hardware related Any tips would be appreciated I will now give you my specs Custom built Antec Six Hundred Midi Tower Black Fans x mm Top x mm Rear Blue LEDs Window ATX mATX mITX Chieftec Nitro Series BPS- C W PSU ATX V V Plus Bronze Modular x pin PCIe x SATA mm Fan Intel Core i Quad Processor i - Quad Core Ghz Socket MB W Boxed w fan Kingston ValueR DDR MHz GB CL Kit w x ValueRAM GB DDR ASUS P P D-E LX Socket- ATX P DDR xPCIe x GbLAN SATA Gb s USB XFX Radeon HD GB GDDR PCI-Express quot Medal of Honor Edition quot xDVI HDMI DisplayPort MHz WD Caviar Blue TB quot SATA Gb s MB Cache Dual Processor RPM

A:My computer freezes up for 1 second every 5 minutes or so.

Freezing is usually caused by overheating or a failing Power Supply Unit (PSU) If you have cleaned out the computer of dust, while the side is off, look to the PSU label and report the make, model # and Wattage. Boot into Setup (Bios) and look for PC Health or some such and report the Temperatures. Also look to the PSU setting and report the 12V line.
You can also download Speccy, this will give you lots of info about your computer including the temperatures of the motherboard and HDD. Once Speccy has scanned your computer go to File/Publish Snapshot and copy the URL and Paste it into your next post if you would like to share it with us.
If your Motherboard (CPU) runs at 70 degrees C or higher, you may need to reapply Thermal Gel between the Processor and the Heat Sync.

Hello everyone,

I'm having lots of trouble with my Windows 7 laptop today. It runs perfectly on safe mode, but on normal mode most of the times it freezes after 2-5 minutes of booting. Usually the screen freezes first, but I can still move the mouse cursor for less than a minute before it freezes completely. Other times Windows just keeps loading forever, and the last time I tried I was able to enter Windows, but the desktop never loaded. The screen was black and all I could see was the mouse cursor, which I could move for a few minutes before it froze. This last situation happened only once, though.

What could it be? I tried doing a clean boot but it didn't work.

Thanks a lot in advance!

A:Windows 7 freezes after a few minutes

This may help : SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot

Or you could try a system restore to before this started.

You HAVE ran some malware/Anti-Virus scans , correct?

Recently upgraded my board, processor and memory to an IWill board RA266 with AMD 1.13 MHz and 256 DDR memory. Used my same Vodoo4 video, Soundblaster 32 card and modem. My harddrive, a westerndigital 18 Gb already contained programs from previous time and OS is Win98. After a couple of days or so, I noticed a message that says 'not enough memory to save' or something like that. And shortly thereafter my computer would just freeze while in windows, and now it wont even boot even after resetting CMOS. Can you tell me how to diagnose if my new memory, DDR or CPU or even the board is defective? I don't have another computer to check out these components! Thanks for any help that can be offered.

Hey forum members,

My PC recently started having lockups/freezes when playing games every 10-15 minutes. Here are some of the things I tried

- Did a clean install of Win 7 32 bit
- Installed new Nvidia drivers
- Ran memtest, no errors
- Cleared my hard drive for more space
- Did a registry sweep with Ccleaner

Anything I might have overlooked? Thanks for any feedback

Hi

To begin this, my PC started freezing. So I went on Safe Mode/Safe Mode Networking and it didn't freeze at all...but when I go on normal mode it freezes and I would have to shutdown the computer by switching it off at the front. It's really annoying me now, and I was lucky that it worked for some reason (I'm on normal mode) but who knows if i couldn't go back again? It might freeze forever...and plus I can't even turn on my computer...their are no red lights and the monitor is just blank.
It took me like 30 mins just to go into normal mode...by switching if off and on again. Is my PC dead?

My Specs:
System: Window 7 Ultimate 32 Bit - Service Pack 1
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7500 @ 2.93GHz, 2940 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)
RAM: 3GB

Any advice would be greatly,thanks!

A:PC freezes few minutes after start-up

Clean out the machine with a can of compressed air mainly all fans and heatsync. Go into BIOS and look for temp, and voltage readings.

Post the brand model and wattage for your PSU.

My computer keeps freezing every few minutes. Control Alt Delete doesn't help because everything's completely frozen! When there's sound the computer makes a really wierd noise when it's frozen. The only thing I do is restart it, but a few minutes later it does the same exact thing! Please help.

A:My computer freezes every few minutes!

If this started recently you may want to try restoring a recovery point that was created back before you started having the problem.

If you've installed or upgraded any software recently, try uninstalling it.

I still use a desktop with Windows 6.0, because it's the only computer in my family that still has a disc drive. Usually, when I turn it on, it will take around a minute to load. But I know that if I touch the computer within the first ten minutes after loading, the entire system will freeze. Usually, when I restart, this fixes the problem.

However, lately, Windows will wait for over 20 minutes before it freezes. Also, restarting is working less and less.

Can anyone offer any help?

Trying to install XP Pro SP2 on a rebuilt HP A1410N that I fixed a year ago by having to install a new motherboard. At that time I had no problems installing XP on it. I have disabled onboard LAN and audio, removed modem, tried 3 different keyboards and mice, also ran CHDSK from Recovery Console and ran Microsoft's Memory Diagostic Check on the RAM, all tests OK. From posts on Google, I tend to believe it maybe a problem with the driver portion of the install stopping the progress.
I hope someone can help me with this as I never come acros this problem before.

A:Install freezes at 34 minutes

Is this a new or an old HDD that you are installing on?

Could be a bad HDD, could be a Bad install cd, could be a bad cd drive.

Anyfurther info would be helpful? Does it stop at one particular file? How long does it hang have you left it for A while?
System specs would prolly also help.

I am using newly installed windows xp with SP2 currently. Whenever I log on to that , t only gives me 1- to 15 minutes to use it. After that everything freezes, pause and halts. The only solution is to restart. I tried experimenting on that and found out that Whenever I unplug my router before starting windows then it works fine. I am using ZTE router for DSL connection. It worked fine last time I used Windows xp and It was working fine on Windows Vista as well, (which I have formatted now).Plz help.

One thing that often causes this kind of thing is excess temperatures.  This varies somewhat from one processor to another, so find out what you have and check cputemp.com to see what it says about yours.  Then download & install something to measure and display your temperatures.  I use Speedfan, but there are others as well.  I would also run an administrative command window and run this command: sfc /scannow.  That will find and attempt to correct any corrupt system files.
`
 Good luck.

Can anyone help......my hp laptop freezes after being on for 10 minutes or so. I have had issues in the past (first one when installing an update 8 months ago). I had to do a system restore. I realized after looking for another antivirus program that sp1 and sp2 were not installed. My computer lost power during the updates and now I can't download them because my computer freezes while downloading. CTRL alt delete gets me nowhere, so have have to shut the computer off. Any ideas? My battery doesn't hold charge for very long, so I use the adapter all of the time.

A:Computer freezes after 10 minutes

Go to www.filehippo.com . Download cleaner (freeutility). Install & run per menus.

1. Run analyze .. Will take a minute or 2.
2. When analyze finishes, click on cleaner.
3. When 100%complete..click on run cleaner Button in lower right corner. Rerun cleaner (button) until you see a green bar and 100% across top of screen.
4. Next, click on registry button.. Left side of screen. After scan is complete ( min or 2) click on fix issues... When asked.. Click on backup to backup registry before starting fix... This let's you restore in case of a problem ..
5. Click on fix all problems..
6. May not be necessary, but repeat step 4 and 5 until you get 100% green bar at top of screen.

The above will clean up all those old files & registry errors left over from uncommitted install

7. Reboot
8. Run cleaner again and repeat above
9. Optional... Click on tools left side of screen, startup, check all those programs that are set to run when you reboot..go careful her.. I suggest if you do not recognize an entry, google it to see what it is. If not needed, click on enable yes to change to no..this action will stop a lot of unused useless stuff or stuff that need not run at startup..
10. Reboot

This should clean up most if not all of your problem... If not, you may have a virus or malware and need to clean that up..

I recommend using malwarebytes ( another free utility)... Install and let it run... Follow their instructions

From there if you still have a problem.. Let me know

Hi

I have Lenovo ideapad U330.
I have this problem that windows is freezing every few minutes for a few second and than comes back to normal.
Every time my computer was freezing I could only move to mouse and minimize windows.
I checked the even viewer and I noticed that every time my computer was freezing I got this error: "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0."
The source is "atapi"
Event ID: 11

I tried to disable the controllers in the Device Manager but it still freezes.

Please help!!

A:Windows freezes every few minutes

It seems it's your hard drive. With my experience, a quick scan with CCleaner , a malware scan, and AV scan (not simultaneously, seperately) seems to speed things up. However, i just saw in another post (i will come back and edit to give credit) a Hard Drive diagnostics tool that you can use to find the problem should the things i listed don't work.

We'll need some more information such as:

Have you dropped your laptop recently? Has any other hardware changed recently?

Let us know!

A:Computer freezes after about five minutes

Hello, david0491
Welcome to the TechSupportGuy Forums. My name is Thomas (Tom is fine), and I will be helping you fixing your problems.

Please take note of some guidelines for this fix:
Refrain from making any changes to your computer including installing/uninstall programs, deleting files, modifying the registry, and running scanners or tools. Doing so could cause changes to the directions I have to give you and prolong the time required. Further more, you should not be taking any advice relating to this computer from any other source throughout the course of this fix.
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Even if things appear to be better, it might not mean we are finished. Please continue to follow my instructions and reply back until I give you the "all clean". We do not want to clean you part-way, only to have the system re-infect itself.
Do not start a new topic. The logs that you post should be pasted directly into the reply. Only attach them if requested or if they do not fit into the post.
Please set your system to show all files.
Click Start, open My Computer, select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.

Sorry for the delay in response. If you still need help, please do the following.

We got this new comp, and no matter how many bios, chipset or video drivers updates on fresh copies of windows, BFV always freezes up for about 5 seconds at a time during game play. It happens every two or three minutes.

The computer is an:
A8N-SLI motherboard
two GeForce Galaxy 66oo GT video cards
AMD 3000+ processor
two 512 kingston ram sticks
FSP 700 watt PS
Creative Audigy SE sound card

We have do not use the overclocking features.
Please help, I've read about all the other bugs with sli and bfv and haven't found this one or anything that worked.

A:SLI problem, freezes in BFV every few minutes

Which version of forceware drivers are you using? I have the same problem everytime I use the current drivers from nvidia. Try using the 93.7 version. I've had no problem after using that ver. If you can't find it online let me know I'll I'll try to get a copy to you.

My computer freezes every five minutes or so while playing games or running firefox. It's been doing this for the last 6 months and most of the time it freezes for a few minutes then runs fine for a while. Then it freezes again. Eventually I have to hard reboot. Any ideas?

A:Computer freezes every five minutes or so

Im on my phone so i cant look at your attachment but it sounds like graphic card issues to me.. Have you changed any hardware around the time that this issue started? Or have you updated the drivers recently? I would highly suggest doing a clean install of the graphic card drivers. If i was on my computer i would provide a link because i know there is a tutorial on the forums here somewhere to do it 'properly'

Hi guys, I'm kind of running out of options here. Every 90 minutes or so, could be more, could be less, my entire system freezes. I can still move the cursor, but nothing reacts to a click. Pages fail to load or refresh. I can still interact with some windows, but I can't select anything within them. The power button doesn't react to a single press; I have to hold it down to force shut down. Here's my event log, I'm not sure which of these things is causing it. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking through the raw dump of your event log for whatever potential cause there could be is going to take forever - please read the following post regarding the procedures for asking for help:

A:PC Freezes every few minutes, no idea why

Hello Kritosein Welcome to the Seven Forums!

You are correct about Speccy in that a 500gb drive generally see 465gb available once it is partitioned and formatted. That shows 488gb? A better program would be System Info for Windows. But we can get into that later.

One of the first things you can try to see things clear up is scheduling a run of the Check Disk tool as well as a good run of the memtest memory stress testing program as long as your system temps are found to be good. Something overheating won't help anyl When right clicking on the C drive's icon in Windows Explorer to bring up the properties screen go to the Tools tab and click on the Check Now button under error checking to schedule that for the next boot up.

If you using the Grub loader to boot into 7 that can produce errors on the drive at times and why you would want to try that option. Memtest is always a good one for finding out if you are running into any memory problems from a defect with a dimm which can also cause freeze ups among other things.

As far as your ubuntu folder was that for a virtual hard drive project (VHD) or were you looking for a folder you downloaded an iso image into? You will need to be a little more specific on what you mean by folder.

As far as videos being on the main drive temporarily the present case was planned out with that in mind seeing a 1tb host drive for 7 to allow plenty of drive space. Then you add in some virtual machines(VMs), other types of temp and long term files kept locally on C adding to that further by numerous programs.

Why I say drive errors from dual booting is having run into that here where a dual boot of 7 with the Release Preview for the next version to come Windows 8 resulted in first seeing 8 lock up for no apparent reason when arriving at the desktop and subsequently 7 as well until running the Disk Ckeck for the 7 drive and all is well!

The second OS drive was set as the default with a boot entry for 7 added into the new version boot options and once 7 was loaded from the 8 startup the problems began! A previous 7 install before a fresh install of 7 went on saw an entry for 8 added in temporarily however since the clean install of 7 was a little over due.

A:PC freezes within 5 minutes after start up

Try these free diagnostics:

Quote:

H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
http://www.carrona.org/memdiag.html (read the details at the link)
http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html (read the details at the link)

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: http://www.carrona.org/malware.html (read the details at the link)

Then, if the above tests pass, I'd try these free stress tests:

Quote:

FurMark download site: http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/
FurMark Setup:
- If you have more than one GPU, select Multi-GPU during setup
- In the Run mode box, select "Stability Test" and "Log GPU Temperature"
Click "Go" to start the test
- Run the test until the GPU temperature maxes out - or until you start having problems (whichever comes first).
- Click "Quit" to exit

Quote:

Prime95 download site: http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/
Prime95 Setup:
- extract the contents of the zip file to a location of your choice
- double click on the executable file
- select "Just stress testing"
- select the "Blend" test. If you've already run MemTest overnight you may want to run the "Small FFTs" test instead. (run all 3 if you find a problem and note how long it takes to error out with each)
- "Number of torture test threads to run" should equal the number of CPU's times 2 (if you're using hyperthreading).
The easiest way to figure this out is to go to Task Manager...Performance tab - and see the number of boxes under CPU Usage History
Then run the test for 6 to 24 hours - or until you get errors (whichever comes first).
This won't necessarily crash the system - but check the output in the test window for errors.
The Test selection box and the stress.txt file describes what components that the program stresses.

Two other video stress tests (may be more stressful than FurMark):
Video Memory stress Test - http://nvworld.ru/utilities/vmt/
Artifact Locator - http://nvworld.ru/utilities/alocator/
Sorry, but I don't read the language that this website is made in.

Beyond this, if you have access to another video card, try replacing that. This is only a "hunch" of mine - so DON'T buy another card (unless you can return it and get your money back).

How to Boot into Safe Mode
If not, you may want to try a Clean Boot troubleshooting procedure to hopefully isolate the program causing this?

For the last 2 weeks, my home PC running XP freezes completely, not even allowing ctrl+alt+del. The keyboard has no function, the mouse will not move. The screensaver sometimes gets it going again but then it freezes up again. Its most regular use is by my son who uses Toon Town & Habbo hotel regularly & I think this might be linked. The only way to get it working again is a complete re-boot. Bad news every 10 minutes!

Any guidance would be gratefully appreciated as you can imagine the grief I'm getting from an 11 year old

Hi there, My laptop is a T420 4177-CTO with Windows 10 x64. Since two weeks ago, my computer started to freeze time and time every 5 minutes. The freezing usually comes with no sign, but it is very regular, usually lasts for around 80 seconds and starts at times of X:X0 and X:X5 (thus every five munites). Sometimes the freezing was not complete, and I could move the mouse. For a couple of times, the freezing was too long and there appeared a Blue Screen of Death with the error of "dpc_watchdog_violation". Temperatures are fine. Based on some internet search, I updated several drivers (touchpad driver, IDE ATA/ATAPI controller driver), but it does not seem to fix the problem. It seems other drivers are good.  I am not sure what is happening to the laptop. Thanks in advance for any suggestions and help. Regards,

A:T420 freezes every five minutes

I reinstalled my Windows, and the laptop looks good for the moment now. Can it be a smart temperature control so something? My hard drive temperature was usually just 43 degrees.

1)If all you have done is change from a 500GB to a 2TB drive then I see no problems. But, some HDDs to go to sleep like the 2TB WD Greens (not a good OS drive but good for backup).

2) Is the video driver the same as on the 500GB system. If not try the older driver.

3) Of course check for Malware. (eg. Malwarebytes - free)

Here's the deal, I added some memory to my computer about a month ago and everything was working just fine. Then one day I started up the system and it just froze after running for about five minutes or so. I rebooted and everything was fine. Over the past couple weeks if I shut down my computer or restart it this problem has continued to occur only now it seems that a reboot is not the answer because it has frozen up about ten time consecutively. Can someone help with a suggestion as to what may be the problem?

Today when I logged into my computer, after about 5-10 minutes everything froze including the mouse. When i tried clicking the mouse the computer made a constant beeping noise.

I ran a few different virus scanners but they came up with nothing.
This problem still happens, even in safe mode. I'm not sure whether this is a virus or not, but I didn't know where else to post this.

Please help me fix this. Thanks.
