Monitor taking minutes to start. Is it dying? Fixable?

Q: Monitor taking minutes to start. Is it dying? Fixable?

I use a nice old Asus VW266 27" LCD monitor that's at least 5 years old.

Recently, it suddenly started taking several minutes to finally detect a signal after turning on the computer.

When the computer is off, the power light on the monitor is orange. When I turn on my computer, it blinks blue until it detects a signal, at which point it goes solid blue. This takes about 3 minutes during which time the monitor is off (no logo, no backlight).

Once the monitor finally "warms up", it suddenly detects a signal and instantly turns on (no "fade in"). I connected it to on-board video to rule out my video card. Once it starts working, it's perfect. Runs fine for hours. No flicker, no fading, no outages.

So, is my monitor dying? What might be wrong and is there a way to fix it w/o spending a fortune? (it is very hard to find affordable 16:10 monitors nowadays, so I'm not anxious to replace it.)

Thx.

Preferred Solution: Monitor taking minutes to start. Is it dying? Fixable?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I think this is easy to fix ...
Don't worry
Just some tests must be done by a technician to know what exactly is happening

You may also try to unplug the monitor after it detects the signal and reconnect it to see what will happen ... This may make it more easy to determine what is wrong

My best friends laptop has been taking 10+ minutes to start up the past couple days, always in a constant black screen with the cursor sometimes appearing, but never moving. Unsure of what may be causing the issue.

Here are the computer specs, will provide any more information if needed:

UPDATE:

Now the black screen is no longer happening, but all programs are becoming constantly unresponsive.

A:Laptop taking 10+ minutes to start up, constant blackscreen

if its taking that long to start up; which it shouldnt. i would give it a thorough cleaning for malware, spyware, and adware. Those 3 things when they infect the system can cause the system to slow way way down. I would scan for those 3 things; download, install, and run the following programs from the following links:

Downloading AdwCleaner

SUPERAntiSpyware - Downloading File

https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/

Then; once you do that; I would also do a disk defrag. Click start, programs, accessories, system tools, then disk defragmenter and let that run. Give these steps a shot and see if it helps resolve the issue(s).

I have an older Nokia Xi plus This is a huge monitor and although it somewhat resembles some of the worlds larger refracting telescopes it is actually has some pretty good stats and makes a good picture if it works right The problem is that it seems to have forgotten the colors white and red and pure blue Well I think so Everything is greenish or yellowish depending on how I tweek the settings color selection or temp on the monitor s control panel I can just barely get something Is fixable? monitor that looks a little orange and I can make the yellow lok bright enough to seem a bit white Also the unit sometimes doesn t work if the system is booted I have noticed that it would not start up sometimes and would make a weird pattern on the screen instead that looks kinda like one of those visualizations on windows media player I actually found that placing Is monitor fixable? a metal object between the computer box and the monitor helped this sometimes even my hand being placed around the unit in certain places sometimes helped with making it work but nothing helps the colors I don t know if this is worth fixing It isn t so bad I want to throw it away though If I could get it working right It would be Is monitor fixable? great for dvd movies What do you suppose is wrong with it and how fixable is it nbsp

A:Is monitor fixable?

To answer your question.....
Yes, anything is fixable, but how much are you willing to pay?

For starters....
Im guessing that your RGB cable has some broken wires in the cable. That could be the reason your colors arent displaying properly.

Also the monitor works intermittently. There's a piece of hardware inside the monitor that's failing. It's only a matter of time before it fails completely.

I actually found that placing a metal object between the computer box and the monitor helped this sometimes;Click to expand...

Is your case closer than two feet from the monitor. I would recommend at least two feet between them. It could be EMI (electro magnetic interference) that's causing the picture to distort.

If you decide to invest money into repairing this old monitor. I would recommend taking it in for service.

Warning!!!!
Monitors are nothing like the inside of a pc. They run on high voltage and store thousands of volts inside the tube even after it has been turned off. If you dont know what your doing. I would advise not to go poking around inside.

As a final note:
Is it worth spending the money to repair it, when you can put it toward a new one? Considering everywhere you go they're going to charge a service fee just to look at it regardless of whether you get it fixed.

Sorry, i dont have better news

This is very weird:

About a month ago, a machine (windows XP) in the office started causing trouble, being very difficult to boot. It kept starting, counting RAM, showing XP logo and, bang!, boot again and kept doing it a long while.

Strangely enough, the issue went off as I removed the keyboard (żż??). But it wasn't for long, it started again resetting by itself and entering an endless loop of counting memory and showing windows logo and restarting. I noticed that the restart produced every time the keyboard lights were turned on by windows. After a While, I noticed some slight popping and clcking noise coming from the power supply, so I decided to change it. Voila! solved.

Problem is that after this first problem, four more systems has sent their power supplies to hell presenting exactly the same symptoms. Even the first one is starting again to make it difficult to boot, so it would be six in a month.

As you may have noticed for my previous threads, I work on a company where I, one of the geekest geeks having put his hands on a computer, is considered the one to deal with computer troubles, so I'm taking all the blame for what seems to be a electrical issue or simply an aging machines trouble (all them are three years or more old).

What is happening??. why the power supplies are all going down the drain so quickly and all at about the same time? what can I do to prevent it?. I must state that the electricity supply on the building is very reliable, without surges or "downs", has an adequate grounding. Only thing I see is that the office is completely covered in rugs, but, can the static be so hard to be causing these problems?. on the other hand, The machines have been working in this completely rugged office all their lifes and it is now when they started causing trouble.

Another weird behavior is that all machines on the office randomly lose connection with the network, giving the message "The network cable is disconnected", and refusing to accept the connection, even after cold restarts. The only solution in this cases have proven to be turning off the machine, changing the cable segment and plugging it on another network wallpoint. Weird thing is that the removed cable segment is not damaged at all!!, I've tested the segment on other machines and even (in one case) made it to be checked out by a technician, and they are ok.

I'm getting a little nuts here, since I don't believe in stuff that happens without a cause, and I don't also believe that the lighning strikes six times in the same place. I would greatly appreciate any pointing in the right direction here. Thanks to everyone in advance.

P.S.: All machines are ATX, Pentium III 800, without any stuff attached, only monitor, mouse, keyboard, HDD and screen. All of them have integrated network, video, sound and modem. They all use ATX 230 W power supplies.

P.S.2.: I've found out that the 230 W power supplies are very hard to find in the local market. There are a lot of 400 W ATX ones. Could I use one of them??. As I understand, The amount of W in these power supplies are the cappacity of the supply to support power demanding peripherals attached to it, up to a demand of 230W or 400W, so it would not be a trouble at all to use one. However, some clerk told me I could burn out the system internals (motherboard, HDD, peripherals) If I used a 400W power supply instead of a 230W, is that true?. What can I do, then?

Working on an older HP G42 Notebook PC with Windows 7 Home Premium. The machine is taking over 20 minutes to boot up. It is sitting on the black HP screen long before it ever gets to the "Starting Windows" screen. I have tried reinstalling windows from the recovery partition. I have tried starting in safe mode. I have tried shutting off all non windows services and the machine always takes 20 minutes or more to boot. Is there something I can do to get this computer to boot up faster? Once it finally boots up it appears to work correctly. The only other thing I know is wrong with it is the battery appears to be totally shot because if it is not plugged in the machines powers down immediately.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Booting taking over 20 minutes

Remove the battery and run the laptop off of the power adapter alone. Does that help the computer boot faster? You can purchase a new battery from Ebay for as little as $10 US. hp g42 battery in Laptop and Desktop Accessories | eBay
Other then that download the ISO image of Seatools in my signature, burn the image to CD using IMGBurn in my signature, or burn it to a USB Flash Drive with SeaFlash also in my signature. Boot off of the Seatools media and run the Short and Long tests on the HDD. If either test fails, the HDD needs to be replaced.

my internet started running very slow about 3 weeks ago. It also takes approximately 2 minutes for my computer to shut down. I am running Windows 7, 64bit, with 6 gb of ram. I ran malwarebytes and it did not detect anything. I cleaned my hard drive with the disc cleaner. I ran microsoft essentials and it did not detect anything. I recently purchased Norton antivirus and ran a complete scan and it found nothing. Every time I shut down the computer it takes exactly the same amount of time to shut down.

A:Solved: Win XP Pro taking 2-3 minutes to shut down

I don't see any problems in the scanlog.

There are a number of things you can do to try to resolve the problem. One would be simply to try a System Restore to a date prior to the problem.

Start > run: msconfig > Launch System Restore.

These can be undone if not helpful.

Another is to examine the Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc) and look for errors in the Applications log 1517 or 1524.

If you see them, install this:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6D-8912-4E18-B570-42470E2F3582&displaylang=en

Still another is to try "clean boot" troubleshooting to isolate the problem:

Run msconfig and select the "Services" tab. Check "Hide Microsoft Services" and then disable the rest. Also uncheck "load startup group" on the general page.

See this link for detailed information:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;310353
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Now restart and test the issue at hand

If no problems, run msconfig and recheck half the disabled items on the Services tab. Test again. If the problem recurs, UNcheck half the items you just checked to narrow down the culprit.

If the problem didn't occur, check the other half, so all the Services are enabled -- proceed to do this on the startup tab as well.

Get the idea? You want to isolate the problem to a specific startup if possible.

Note: if you already have items unchecked under msconfig > startups and are in “selective” startup mode – you should note what these are before beginning. They will need to be de-selected again.

Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, eight core processor. Recently changed from android phone to iPhone six. Having some form of conflict with iTunes that is taking extremely long time to load.

It may be even longer than 20 minutes to load. When I click on the iTunes icon, I see the spinning icon for a few seconds, and then nothing. My best live getting it to load, is to do this at night, leave the computer running, and when I get up in the morning, iTunes it is finally loaded. It seems to run relatively well then, but sometimes I click on something like "edit preferences" it may freeze for several minutes, then finally the screen comes up.

My problem seems to be something that goes beyond the usual "iTunes is running slow"

Don't seem to be having a problem with any other applications/programs on my computer.

Appreciate any help,

A:iTunes taking more than 20 minutes to load

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Best I can say is have you re-installed iTunes ?
A Google search didn't bring up anything recent
Cheers.

I build all of my computers. I recently built an asus Z77 series computer

Installing the operating system windows 7 everything is going well. Install all the drivers through the thumb drive method. "all good like 2 to 3 seconds to sleep" Proceed to update, finished all the updates. After this it takes 3 or 4 minutes to sleep? I'm thinking okay this is kind of weird.

Not quite sure how to debug this?

A:Taking 4 to 5 minutes to sleep after updates.

Have you checked the time to sleep option in power options?

A:Windows 7 taking 5-10 minutes to boot up.

Hello toashishonly and welcome to Seven Forums.

Sometimes boot problems are related to malware (virus, spyware, etc.) If you haven't done so, run a full scna with your anti-virus of choice. Even if that scan comes back clean (no malware detected) I'd follow up with some additional free on-demand scanners like Malwarebytes, SuperAntispyware, ESET Online Scanner, etc.

As to CPU usage, it's not uncommon for System Idle Process to be at 98% if the computer is turned on and you're not doing anything else with the computer. When you start another process the new process will usually use a smaller fraction and System Idle Process may drop down to 0%. This article goes into more detail.

The best protection to not have to reformat and reinstall everything is to make regular backups of all your important files and folders. I prefer doing a full system image which also backs up the entire operating system, all updates, etc. A lot of people recommend the free Macrium Reflect.

Hello all, I am hoping someone can help me my laptop. I have gone thru many steps with the Malware response team and have been told im clean.

The problem is pretty simple at this time. It is taking 21 minutes to boot everytime. Most of the time when i shutdown or restart the computer gets hung up. I can boot into Safe mode in about 2 minutes and from safe mode it does not freeze up shutting down.

Here is a link to the last thread:

Any thoughts?

A:Windows 7 Taking 20 minutes to boot

Open msconfig and on the General tab choose "selective startup" (uncheck all three items) and reboot. Does the problem still occur? If not, start adding items back to msconfig one or two at a time, rebooting after each change, until the problem reappears and you'll have identified the offending process. This is clearly a time consuming procedure, but it is the best way to determine if some process loading with the system is the cause of your problem.
After you've isolated the cause, do not use msconfig to permanently disable the process. Instead, if it is a service go to START - RUN and type: services.msc (then press enter) and disable the service OR, if it a program, you can download & run a simple app such as Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel (http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml) to enable, disable, or otherwise manage startup programs.

The newest build of Google Chrome is taking over 10 minutes to launch. This happened randomly, nothing was changed when it started. I have uninstalled and reinstalled chrome (uninstall was manual because the uninstaller wouldnt load either), ran a compatability troubleshooter, and even tried it on a new account on my pc. The compatability troubleshooter fixed it for a day, then the next morning the same problem resided. Nothing happened to the PC that night. I am also having a problem with all my games crashing on startup (see my other posts), and I feel this might be linked to it. Any ideas on what the problem is or how to fix it?

I have a 3 year old Toshiba Satellite L300, recently it has been taking a long time to turn on. The green light comes on for the power and battery, I have tried taking out the battery and holding the button etc. Sometimes it turns on straight away, other times it can take up ten minutes of me holding the power button to turn on.

Any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks

A:Toshiba satellite taking 5 minutes to turn on

Is the Battery fully charged and does it do the same with just the battery in and or just the power supply?

Hi,

i'm having a problem with web pages loading. Some of the time web pages take up to 5 minutes to load, Firefox says 'waiting for www.domain.com..' and that is in every browser, i've tried Chrome and IE also. Though torrents are working fine and my msn messenger does not log me out, but i can not have a conversation with anyone as the messages will not go through. I can ping all the sites that will not load with normal latency, with the IP and the domain, so it can not be a DNS problem, also tracert works fine. Also I have nod32 antivirus installed, so i'm pretty sure its not malware. This problem does not exist in safe mode.

My configuration:
Acer Aspire 5520
Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 64bit
AMD Turion64 x2

A:System bogged down, Taking 5 minutes to boot-up

Welcome to TSF.

It could be an infection. Or it could be that your system just needs a tidy up.. Lets tackle both.

Download and install CleanUp!. Do NOT run it yet.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following:Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users
Click on the “Temporary Files” and uncheck the box for “Scan drives for file matching” if it’s checked.

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.

WARNING - CleanUp! will delete all files and folders contained within Temporary Directories. If you knowingly have items you would like to keep that are stored in these locations; Move Them Now!!!

Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan with Internet Explorer at Kaspersky Online Scanner

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component. The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to: Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:Extended

Scan Options:Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases
Click OK & have it scan My Computer
Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

This is something that has started happening just in the last month or so with my wife's computer:

When she boots into Windows 7, the mouse and keyboard (both USB) aren't working. They continue to appear non-functional for 2 full minutes, at which point they come on and work perfectly. There are no problems after that.

I realize I should give system specs, but I'm not sure what would be relevant other than saying she has a Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, and Windows 7 32-bit.

Anyone know why this might be happening?

A:USB devices taking 2 minutes to initialize at startup

New build here, Gigabyte P55 UDL3 mobo/i5 750/4gigs OCZ ram. I dual boot Win7 HP x86 and x64. Same deal on both, I have to wait for the damned keyboard to start working before I can type my password. Damn irritating!

Never saw this issue ever, so I assumed it was something about the mobo. Now you have me wondering?

Hello folks,

I have a friend who just picked up a brand new Toshiba laptop from Best Buy. It worked great the first two days, then suddenly slowed down to the point that it takes almost a half hour to boot. At first I thought it may be software issues so I wiped the entire computer and installed a new copy of Windows 7 from the recovery disk. This fixed nothing.

Since then I have tried disabling the startup processes with msconfig
Running GREP to see if he had a rootkit already.
Running Avast, Malwarebytes, etc.
Running Ultimate Boot CD to use their CPU, HD and Memory diagnostic tools.
All of which have turned up no errors, no viruses no problems.

What else could be causing such a massive delay?
I plan on having him return this laptop and getting another one anyway, but Its not often I cant fix a PC I am given.

Any ideas?

A:Trojan virus, Windows taking 20+ Minutes to Boot

Since you have posted a HJT log here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic437858.html/page__p__2552117__fromsearch__1#entry2552117Please refrain from asking for further help from other members or staff until the Malware Removal Team has checked your posted log. The Malware Removal Team work very hard to investigate a unique solution to your problem and you will receive individual expert assistance. This takes time and effort so we ask you to please be patient while waiting for assistance and NOT to make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member. Any modifications you make on your own can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, following advice outside of that post may cause confusion for the team member assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. The Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. If you followed any other advice already, please ensure you inform the Malware Removal Team Team Helper when they respond to assist you with your log. This will help them know what has been done and they probably will ask for an updated log. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your post or make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another Malware Removal Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. This topic is now closed.

When I turn on my laptop it will load fine until the user profile screen. If I click my profile first (it's password protected) then it just hangs there and loads nothing (not even the password prompt box). If I load a user profile without a password first it will load, but that takes about 10 minutes to load, when it is loaded I can log out of that profile and log into mine.
It started about a month ago. The only thing I installed then was a flash player update, but I uninstalled that...
I was told by a friend that "the fix to that is reformatting the laptop, as the Registry and OS files are badly damaged."

Is that true and if so could it be fixed without needing to reformat the laptop?

A:Laptop taking ~10 minutes to load a user profile

Uninstalling a Flash update shouldn't corrupt your computer to that degree.

You may have malware on your computer.

Try a full scan with Malwarebytes.

Failing that, your user profile may be corrupted so you could try creating a new one.

If you still have a restore point available at a time before you installed Flash, you could try a system restore to that point.

A:Help please - Windows taking 10 minutes to load, works fine after that.

Watch the icons as they load in the system tray to see which is causing the delay. Could be a driver conflict or a background program running a system check.

Post back with all the programs listed in the msconfig startup list.

I would appreciate your advice on how to weed out unnecessary startup stuff.

What information do you need me to capture from the machine?

A:Windows 8 machine taking up to 5 minutes to finish boot process

Open msconfig and on the General tab choose "selective startup" (uncheck all three items) and reboot. Does the problem still occur? If not, start adding items back to msconfig one or two at a time, rebooting after each change, until the problem reappears and you'll have identified the offending process. This is clearly a time consuming procedure, but it is the best way to determine if some process loading with the system is the cause of your problem.

After you've isolated the cause, do not use msconfig to permanently disable the process. Instead, if it is a service go to START - RUN and type: services.msc (then press enter) and disable the service OR, if it a program, you can download & run a simple app such as Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel (http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/startup_cpl.html) to enable, disable, or otherwise manage startup programs.

Hi there, I really need some help with my computer. About a month ago I bought an ssd, which allowed me to boot up windows in about 15 seconds. It still worked until last night, when I restarted my computer because one of my storage hard drives was disconnected. When I tried to boot back up, it took over five minutes to get past the windows logo and blue scree. Instead of seeing the desktop immediately, I have to sit through about 20 minutes of black screen. If I try to launch in safe mode the computer stops while loading the drivers. If I try re-installing, it doesn't get past the installer is starting page. It's really annoying me now. And I could some help.

My advice is for forget it. The interface is totally different between that panel and a typical PC display. Bite the bullet and buy a new monitor.

As of late, my 5 year old LG Flatron L1752S LCD monitorClick to expand...

As I read this I was already imagining there were gonna be flickering last summer I had the same problem the screen kept getting flickers every time I switched it on then it would settle after 15 mins after a few time it got worse and worse 2 weeks later it died it seems that u will have to replace the monitor and seeing that u seem to be interested in gaming a 1080p would be a fair trade for the Old one hopefully you will do the right decision

The black screens come at random. Games run fine for the first 5 minutes, after which the black screens come and go erratically. While the screen stays black, sound, movement and everything else stay unaffected. After about 10 minutes, the black screen issue becomes frequent enough to force me to close whatever game I'm playing (Sleeping Dogs, Hitman: Absolution, Far Cry 3). Also, the black screens come at a lesser rate if I stay still or stare at the sky (this made me assume that my GPU is dying, but evidence says otherwise!).Click to expand...

I have this acer monitor for few years now.

I did not have any problem for first few years. Now initially I will not see any thing on screen but monitor LED light is on. So I know power is on.

In mac there is monitor/display configration, where it does show I have 2 monitors (one my laptop and other Acer) but external monitor is dead black. When I click detect display it show red boundary on the side which mean there is 2nd display.

Any way after many click of detect display, my external monitor was on for few minutes (not more than 5 minutes) after that it starts to show cracks (not sure how to describe it, you may have seen with old tvs with antenna when signal was out during wind or storms) and finally screen is dead black again.

What to do other than buying new monitor? Thanks in advance?

This just started recently, sometimes (rarely) the screen on my monitor blacks out. I know it's not standby and not a screen saver. It's like the video gives out for a quick second and the screen is blacked out then it pops right up again like nothing was wrong. WHile the screen is black the power is on the whole time. Could this be a loose cable? Bad video card (voodoo 3 3000 agp) ? Could there be an irq conflict because my sound and video share the same irq? Or is the monitor starting to kick the bucket? The monitor is about... 5 years old. As I'm typing this very message, the screen is perfect but I'm worried that it might trip out on me again.

A:Monitor dying?

Welcome to TSG!

I doubt it is an IRQ problem. Did you install anything just prior to this starting to happen? It could be the monitor or the video card. It is no a process of elimination. Do you have another monitor to try or another computer to try the monitor on? A friend maybe. Or even another video card you could try?

I have a 20.1" Sceptre.

Scenario:
1. Turn on computer
2. Turn on monitor
3. Monitor stays black but the power light flashes on and off
4. Computer boots up normally
5. After 20mins-1hour, monitor finally displays desktop and everything works again
...
6. Turn off computer and monitor. Go to sleep.
7. Wake up, turn on monitor and computer.
8. Repeat steps 1-6. Add 30 mins to step 5 per day. (Up until now it takes a few hours for it to work. Right now it won't even turn on)

*I have plugged my monitor into another computer that has no GFX only to get the same result.

A:Dying LCD monitor?

At first, I was going to say that there might simply be a problem with the connector, as this is a relatively new monitor. But as it suddenly starts working after a while, then it's probably the monitor itself (just like your title describes).

I would try shaking the connectors when plugged in (maybe even change the VGA cable if possible). Any results would mean a lot. But if everything stays dead... well, the monitor's probably dying, yes.

Hello, my monitor is having sudden flashes of... id describe it as a purple grain. In certain colours, a clear array of purple pixels are showing making my display fuzzy.
Ive supplied a picture to show you, because Its hard to explain.

I've plugged my monitor into my laptop, and the same results so Its not the graphics card, and I've booted into both linux and windows trying different drivers to no avail. Ive tried tinkering with the monitor settings, and the wire is fine (nothing on screen gets better/worse when its moved).

The monitor is an AOC WJ1780PI (http://www.amazon.com/AOC-WJ1780PI-display-0-264-speakers/dp/B000AM1KZ2)

Is there anyway this can be fixed? I don't have enough money for a new monitor.

Thank you.

Is my monitor dying or something else?
This has been going on for months.
So, everytime i turn on my monitor, some blue cross lines appear on the monitor but normally this goes away when i touch the monitor entry cable. But nowadays, the problem persists and how do i fix it?

So is this a problem that can be fixed?

If there is anything i need to provide, please let me know...

I have tried to insert my pictures on Photobucket.com on this website, but i am currently been blocked. If there is the need to send the pictures, i will send them

Hello everyone First off I apologize if this is the wrong forum to post this problem Although the problem is hardware related I m not sure if it ties in at all with my Windows XP OS or not Anyways I have a problem with my monitor that I can t seem to be able monitor's My dying? What's that? to fix It worked fine as of about seven hours ago but What's that? My monitor's dying? that doesn t seem to be the case anymore I ll detail as much as I can below about what I ve tried I restarted my computer What's that? My monitor's dying? at around PM went somewhere and got home around PM When I turned my computer on the problem reared its ugly head It seemed that after a random amount of time my monitor would black out but not completely lose power - the light on it stayed on regardless of what the screen showed If I tried to turn the monitor back on by hitting the button on the monitor itself I would be able to see my screen again but only for about three seconds before it blacked out again The only way to temporarily fix the problem was to restart the computer and go back to stage I tried googling to see if any other people had the same problem I had There were a few responses so I gave them a shot - First I did what anyone probably would do first checked all the cables leading out of the monitor They seemed perfectly fine and they still do now so the problem probably didn t lie there - Second Some people had said that the problem was that their surge protector was acting up so that was what I attempted to fix first I got a different somewhat newer surge protector that I knew worked and attempted to see if it would fix the monitor black out problem It didn t - Third One person said that there was a lot of gunk on the outside of his computer that may have caused it to overheat and mess with the monitor I cleaned the outside of my computer but again my monitor blacked out after about half an hour - Fourth Thinking that the problem was a software issue it seemed weird that my computer was working fine until I restarted it I went through all my old drivers and updated them to their newest versions It took a while but I somehow found an update for my ancient MSI RADEON XPRESS SERIES display driver Still though an hour later or so I was forced to restart my computer So now that I ve exhausted those options I m lost I m going to take my monitor to a friend s tomorrow and see if I can narrow down the problem but until then does anyone else have any suggestions on what to do No matter what I try my monitor keeps intermittently blacking out and I can t find any way to fix it I ll clarify any questions that need clarification Thanks nbsp

A:What's that? My monitor's dying?

First: Hi!
Second: I know that the first one is stupid...
Third: Here we go:
- Are you donig anything when the screen goes black or it just gets black randomly, no mather if you listen to music, play games, watch videos, write in word, read e-mails......?
- Which was the last software you installed on your computer (before the bunch of drivers) ?
- Make sure that the mouse cable (if not wireless) don't touches the monitor cable.
- Plug out (while computer is off) the monitor cable, and plug it back in.
- If nothing from abouve works, try to connect another monitor with your computer (if you have any) and wait to see what will happen.

It was small at first but has not gotten much worse. Now the screen almost constantly flickers with different shades of color. Should i look into buying a new monitor?

I have a Liquid Video monitor that is probably about 7-8 years old. Within the last year or two it has begun to flicker frequently. One minute it will be normal, then it will change color to a tinted pink, then flicker rapidly for many minutes. I think these are the signs of a dying monitor but I'm not sure? Any advice?

A:Is my monitor dying?

Check the cable. Most times if it still displays video, it could be a broken, crossed, or a loose connection to the back of your computer.

Good Morning,

I think my monitor is dying. The symptoms are,

The whole screen seems darker than normal, but can still be seen.
All sentences have a light gray ghostly line the same height as the letters running the entire width of the screen. The color red is now a very bright almost flouresent red. Same for the color green. I am going to unhook it today and take it over to a friends house and hook it to his computer and see what happens. I was just wondering if these problems sound familiar to anyone else? Also any thoughts on a good brand, medium priced LCD monitor. Thanks to all of you for your help.

I have a Sony/Dell Trinitron 19" (3 1/2 yr old). Just recently the screen started becoming very blurry. If the monitor is shut off and then turn on again is clears for a while. I have tried the self tests in the manual and the online support site but they didn't seem to help any. Is my monitor failing or is there something I haven't tried? Is it unusual for a monitor to die this soon? If so, what do you recommend for a replacement monitor? If this is all the longer a Sony is going to last I'm leary of replacing it with another.

After 10 minutes, the screensaver comes on, and 10 minutes after that is when the monitor is supposed to power down. However, when the time arrives, the monitor goes ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON, OFF, etc., about 2 times a second. At that point, wiggling the mouse or pressing keys will not awaken the computer. If I turn the monitor off, but turn it back on, it is still going ON, OFF, ON, OFF, so I have to shut off the computer (an abrupt shut off with the power button) and leave it alone for several minutes (like 10+) before turning it back on and everything is ok again.

I'm using Windows XP, a GeForce 6800 video card, and an Envision monitor that has worked great up to this point.

Is it the monitor or could the powersaving stuff have gotten messed up somehow? The powersaving settings haven't changed.

I have an HP P1110 21" monitor. I've had it for quite a while probably 5+ years. One of the first problems was there are several light horizontal lines that stay there, noticed that oh about 9 or so months ago. It's not a huge deal, was willing to overlook that. Also over time the picture has gotten fuzzier and fuzzier (is that normal? Kinda willing to overlook that... but.. now the colors are weird. I checked the settings, everything is fine, but now it has a blue tint on it, not a VERY strong tint but the colors are messed up everything is blue tinted, kind of a light blue. Anyone know what's going on with it? Can it be fixed? Should I chuck it?

Hi everyone I've been having some strange problems with a fairly new PC and I was hoping the community could help It all seems to stem from my windows Explorer not functioning properly but 7) minutes programs to [SOLVED] and (Windows load 10 taking Frequent hangs I'm worried it could be a hardware issue This computer is fairly new just months old These problems all started happening about weeks ago Specs Windows -bit Home Premium SP w all of the latest updates AMD PhenomII X T Six-Core CPU w HyperTransport Technology Asetek LC Liquid Cooling System TB Western Digital SATA-III Gb s MB Cache RPM HDD GigaByte GA- XA-UD AM AMD X Motherboard GSKILL GB GBx DDR MHz Dual Channel Memory Watts - XtremeGear Power Supply x ATI Radeon HD GB GDDR X PCIe Video Cards in CrossFire mode Problems When I boot the computer everything works fine [SOLVED] Frequent hangs and programs taking 10 minutes to load (Windows 7) until I get to the quot Starting Windows quot boot screen The Windows logo will do it's animation for about seconds and then freeze Then nothing will happen for either a few minutes or not at all The activity on my hard drive also seems to stop I usually have to hit [SOLVED] Frequent hangs and programs taking 10 minutes to load (Windows 7) the reset button and start all over again Windows asks if I want to repair my startup and I have many times before but that doesn't seem to work Windows Explorer will hang or not respond every once in a while I'll delete or move applications and it won't show what I did on the desktop folder etc until I hit F to refresh I'll right click and the loading circle will display for a minute until windows tells me explorer isn't responding I usually have [SOLVED] Frequent hangs and programs taking 10 minutes to load (Windows 7) to reset explorer one or twice an hour on my PC Some programs will load in the background but not come up at all This occurs with my copy of Norton Security Suite and the worst culprit of this is iTunes iTunes cannot load completely for about minutes Then when it finally loads it freezes for about minutes Then if I plug my iPod in it freezes and won't respond at all Even trying to end the task using task manager is a chore Sometimes shutting my computer down will take a very long time to do Last night it took minutes for it to completely shut down Otherwise it just stays on the screen that says quot Shutting Down quot I also hear no activity from my hard drive What I've tried to fix the issue I tried two different utilities to check my hard drive for errors and both came up clean I tried wiping the HD and rebooting my Windows software Interestingly everything seemed to be working fine when Windows booted up the first few times after this until I started to install updates from Windows Now I have all of the updates in and it's working just like it did before I rebooted I've run memtest prime and a complete virus scan No errors were found I had my CPU overclocked to ghz and my RAM had to be overclocked a little to mhz but I did research online and they said the GSKILL ripjaws can handle that just fine It doesn't matter because I reset everything back to it's factory settings and the problems still occur Now I've asked Microsoft to help and all they told me to do was run a clean boot run it in safe mode etc None of that worked Like I said I even rebooted my computer Updated all the drivers But it doesn't seem to matter That's why I'm beginning to think this is a hardware issue I read online that my CPU can only run a certain amount of ram speed mhz because of it's integrated memory controller Did I damage anything running my ram at Also to note the strange thing about all of this is that I can run certain applications especially games like Starcraft and Crysis just fine No hang ups no lag Thanks and I look forward to your help

Well a little background about my pc I got it two or so years ago going on three in December Its a HP Pavilion The monitor itself says quot mx quot Anyhow I ve never had problems with it til lately when I moved into my dorm The screen itself tends slightly pixelate in small areas usually a straight line across the screen Its very hard to notice unless you re really paying attention to it Though yesterday it sort of Signs a monitor? of dying quot had a heart attack quot as my room mate called it I was surfing for something and the moment a site loaded the monitor began to turn off and on rapidly It made the usual Signs of a dying monitor? click Signs of a dying monitor? sound it always makes whenever you turn it on or off It didn t respond to hitting the power button on it My first Signs of a dying monitor? thought was the power supply was going mad so I unplugged the monitor only and then the other plug that was next to it and then replugged it It turned back on doing the same thing Then I simply killed the entire system via my power strip and let it reboot It didn t start doing it again so I went back to surfing Once again the same site loaded and it began again This time I managed to get it to turn off while catching it between turning off and on when the screen was off I managed to close the window with the site an everything was fine So I thought the site was the source of the problem so I sent my boyfriend the link He said it worked fine for him Now what s around my montior Just the tower my tablet and our mini fridge is about two feet away I don t know if the fridge could be doing anything I hope this is enough information And oh yes the link to the site I was at is this http www activoteamerica com TX tx html Thanks in advance nbsp

i bought this monitor 8 months ago. its one of those CHEAP and DUMB unbranded korean ones. ive been using it at the max supported resolution which is 1280x1024 at a refresh rate of 60hz. it never ran ok, it was giving me alignment problems since the start. now, when i tried playing splinter cell 1, i had to use 800x600 to get a playable frame rate. i know, bad graphics card. well, after returning to windows after playing the game, my "C correction settings" on the monitor went haywire. there is a sort of a squeeze on the sides. theres also a burning smell coming from the back of it sometimes. and theres always a slight flicker which gets stronger sometimes. id like to know whats really wron before i give it in for repairs... my other branded monitor works FINE on the same pc though...

Hey guys, I just have a quick question. I have a KDS 17" Pure Flat CRT monitor and lately it has been acting strangely. Every now and then the imagine on the screen bends as if I hit the degaus button, except the image stays clear and it makes no noise, it just bends and goes back. Is she getting close to giving up the ghost?

Also about a month ago it was making a high pitched noise till I changed the refresh rate a couple times, currently at 60hz.

A:Opinion:Is my monitor dying?

Are you near any power sources? I had the fortune to troubleshoot a workstation with the same issue. He was on the other side of a wall from a microwave oven. Every time the oven powered up---Whoosh!!!---there went his screen. Drove him nuts 'til I came over and pointed out the problem. Funniest thing I'd seen in awhile.

About a month ago I started up my PC and noticed the monitor image was looking very weird: Dark horizontal lines extending to the edges of the screen from any screen element that's also dark. The situation hasn't changed since, and I've tried all of the monitors' options, from degaussing to changing the color temperature settings, brightness, contrast, etc.

I'm hoping this is just my monitor entering the process of going to that great junkyard in the sky. Or is there something going on with my video card?

This is a Gateway 19" CRT that I bought with the system in December 2000.

Thanks,

When I turn on the CPU and monitor, the monitor light keeps blinking for about every 3 seconds for about 5 hours (sometimes more) and then the monitor finally turns on. How long it takes for it to finally turn on depends on how long it has been turned off. One time, I turned it on after it had been off for about 30 minutes, and it only took about 15 minutes to turn on rather than 5 hours. My friend is telling me that there might be a problem with the graphics card, but the thing is, when the monitor finally does turn on, there is nothing wrong with the picture, it works perfectly; the only problem is that it takes too long to turn on.
So, what should I do to fix this problem?

i spilled a glass of wine on my dell xps. i seemed to have done all of the right steps by shutting it off, removing battery, cleaning keyboard externally but then i noticed some keys were still sticking so i took it apart, with manual carefully, and there was only a wee bit of spots on the keyboard internally so cleaned with alcohol. all seemed well but when i reassembled the monitor isn't working. i can hear that it is starting up and working properly but the monitor is black. i was very careful with the cables, i didn't remove them or anything...does anyone know what could be happening?

thanks.

A:Saved laptop from spill but after taking apart monitor not working?

The LCD requires two cables, one for power, and the other the display connector.

It is likely the display cable which is probably ribbbon style, has come out of the back of the LCD's circuit connector block.

Either that, or one of the inverter leads has been slightly pulled out of the connector block and isn't making proper contact.

My advice would be to strip the display surround off, and remove the plastic trim running across the top of the keyboard and then check all the connections and with it in pieces, run it up again.

Windows 7 shuts down monitor after about 30 minutes when not in use.
A) I do not have a screen saver or use blank
B) In power management I have selected Balanced (recommended) and

B2) I have set Put the computer to sleep to NEVER

So why is it insisting to turn my display off until I move the mouse. This is silly.

After im playing in this case battlefield bad company 2 or now it was battlefield 4 after like 5-10 minutes i hear my video card is working very hard it's fan and the temperature is like 110-117c.

Then after more 5 minutes or so the monitor is shut down and the pc is frozen i can't click anything only can restart the pc. It's like the pc is in sleep mode but frozen.
I don't have any blue screen before it.

I'm not sure if the problem is drivers like the video card drivers memory or virus.
I have nod 32 did scan last night cleaned 17 threats.

You could boil water on that video card. Better take it easy until you figure it out or you're going to fry your card, could already be damaged.

Can you please fill out complete system specs lower left corner?

I recently updated from Window 8.1 to Windows 10. The upgrade went fairly well except for my laptop monitor turning off after 1 or 2 minutes of inactivity. I have changed all power settings to appropriate times. At times, normally after a fresh restart, my screen saver kicks in correctly. However, after a few times of working correctly, my monitor begins to turn off again.

You might check the BIOS to see if there's a setting for the monitor, power saving, screen saver or something like that.

A year ago I bought a refurbished Dell Latitude E6400 through Newegg and the darn thing turned on as soon as I'd plug it in. I posted about it in sevenforums (laptop had Win7 Pro) and I was directed to go into BIOS, check for something related to that. I did that and there it was, a setting to power up when plugged in. I changed it to disabled and it fixed the problem.

That might not be the cause, but it sounds like you've set things in the OS, and BIOS would be about the only thing that would override the OS.

Hey everyone,
As of two days ago my computer has been taking forever to start up and open basic programs after shutdown. It usually takes about 45 minutes before letting me sign in, and then multiple hours to open a program. Once I get something open it seems to work normally again, but I'd really like to be able to restart my computer without taking 3+ hours.

Any help you have is appreciated!

A:Start up taking forever

Press win logo + r, type msconfig, go to services tab, click on hide microsoft services and disable everything.
Go to task manager, go to startup tab and disable everything.
Restart the computer.

Does it take about an hour to start?

My Windows 7 hung itsself up this morning. I had to use the power button to restart. I chose Safe Mode. I now have the screen:

Start up repair.
Start up repair is checking your system for problems
Attemping
Might take an hour

That was 8 hours ago and it is still running.
I pressed the Cance button and got the answer "Cannot cancel"

What now? Any ideas?
Thanks
Herri

A:Start up taking 8 hours

Hold down on the Power Button, or turn it off using your power plug.

If you have a Windows 7 Disk you could try booting Normally, if not run a Repair Install.
