I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Nice little Tip R.E. admin username

Create a new user in User Accounts in Control Panel called Mark (Administrator privlidged)
Log off, then log on to the new user - Mark

This will fix your documents folder to:C:\Documents and Settings\Mark\My Documents

The Windows registered owner can be changed by many tweak tools, or by the manual registry editing (Warning manually changeing/editing the original installed owner name can stop some programs from working or updating, including all Security updates (that have the original installation name attached)

I see "User" commonly on newly installed Windows computers. I've always preferred "WindowsXp" (no spaces) on an Xp install; and "Vista" on a Vista install.
User sounds horrible, not sure why many companies use this as the standard install logon name.

I used the Control Panel's "User Accounts"/"Change an Account" to change my Username on XP Home without any problems. However, under Documents and Settings, the directory with all my settings still has the old Username. Can I just rename the directory to the new one I created and which is reflected as my Username on login, or will that create problems.

I am the administrator of the account and would not like to get locked out or cause other types of problems. Can someone who is familiar with this type of maneuver confirm that it is OK to just rename the directory or how to go about approaching this?

Thanks for any help.

okay freshly into win now having obtained a new hdd for my comp I have been running as the admin of my computer since accounts became an unavoidable thing barring the occasional frustration-induced blunder I tend to stay Properly Paranoid in my habits to make sure I have no problems but win doesn't think that I could ever be intelligent enough to have full rights on any account other than the built-in admin account which of course I'd want to avoid using outside emergencies that render other accounts damaged somehow so I'm looking to find out how to make another user account with FULL admin rights not just the constantly have to get permission stuff that a standard snort admin account has full rights that don't involve constantly having to run as administrator yes yes I've heard people trying to get me more paranoid so that I'd endure the added hassles all it does is make me more irate with the situation so if noone's willing to provide me with instruction on this it's probably best for the thread to be left to fall off the board

I don't know what your problem is. To make another administrator account - Start - Control panel - User Account -
Manage another account - Create a new account - Give it a name - put a check mark for Administrator -
click - Create Account.

Hi

Ive stumbled across a problem that has been causing me grief for a few days now, every time I try to access my hard drive (C disk) it says, access is denied. Also, i cant edit permissions because I've lost admin rights. Ive tried many things including unlocking the system admin, this lets me access a few extra things like being able to use the sfc command in cmd, however, it doesn't allow me to access the C disk or change permission because it also has lost admin rights? I fear that this is a bad problem and I don't know how it happened. I have tried restoring to a previous date and that doesn't work either.

Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Shimin4tor

We have a script that installs a program (Office 2007). It then imports some registry file settings. It imports HKLM and HKCU. We have noticed that if this is installed as a local admin, the settings seem to take if we scan the box as a local admin(we are running a security scan to determine this (the security scan checks multiple gpo's supposed to be set by the program/reg imports). If we scan as a domain admin, the system doesn't seem to show they are set. We believe we see the opposite if it's installed as a domain admin. For the domain scan they are set, for the local scan they are not. Does this have to do with how you can change registry entries as a domain admin versus local admin? The registry settings are imported with reg.exe import filename.reg like commands in the .bat script. Any ideas are helpful.

Basically I have two admin accounts one of which belongs to another member of family and one which belongs to me. Heres the situation:

The person who owns the other Admin account is changing my accounts password (also an admin account). Surely there is some way to make it so that I can not have my account's password changed unless it is logged on to my actual account (so my account's password can only be changed if my account is logged on?)

Is there a way?

A:Prevent Admin Accounts From Changing Other Admin Account Passwords In Xp!

Here's an article (for Win2K) that may help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309799But, IMO, the issue here is that the other person can't be trusted. In such a situation I'd suggest making the other account into a Standard User account - that way they won't be able to mess with your stuff, and they'll be reliant upon you for anything that requires administrative privileges.

Hi,
I am working on a 2012 ADDS based network and I have the following requirement.
I want to create a local administrator user account on the local domain computers (Win XP, 7 and 8) which will have full access on the PC but not the permission to edit other local administrator accounts.
Please advise how I can achieve this.

Thanks in advance,

A:local admin account with no permit to edit other admin accounts

Local admin account by definition has access to everything and even if it doesn't it can take ownership and give itself the rights. In other words i am not sure that you can achieve what you
are trying to do.

I would suggest create a single shared local admin account and give it your desktop admins, change the password every 60-90 days to keep it more secure. This is common practice in many
organizations.

Frustrated with admin rights - Please help me.

Just purchased new PC - HP Pavilion desktop and upgraded to Windows 10 during installation. I've downloaded Google Chrome as my default search engine with no issues. I've attempted several times to download Google Earth. Download fails: "Google Earth needs administrator privileges to install."

Why won't Google Earth install?

Hello and welcome!

Sometimes you have to run the installation file and deliberately make it "Run as Administrator" by right clicking on the downloaded file and selecting this option. Not sure if this is the case with Google Earth but worth a try.

The firm in which I work has a Lenovo PC with Windows 10 installed. There are two user profiles on the computer, the admin and another normal account without administration rights. We have only the password of the account without administrator rights.

The network administrator had left the company surprisingly in without giving the administrator password of the PC and we cannot contact him anymore.

Now we want to install another programme and we cannot do this without an administrator account.

I disabled secure boot and have tried to boot the PC with an Linux USB Stick, but it do not boot from the stick.

Any suggestion how I either can reset the password of the administrator account or create an new account with administrator rights.

A:Windows 10 admin password reset or new account with admin rights

Although there may be techniques to recover a lost password it is forum policy that we do not discuss these here - your best bet would be to visit a local security specialist and get them to recover/reset it for you - and a change to the policy for the replacement admin may be a good idea, I always wrote a list of all passwords and stored it with the Managing Director and also in a fireproof safe

Hi,
I'm new to Windows 7.

I'm still trying to master the file permissions.. I need some help and I'd appreciate it if someone could help me out.

I have a folder with mp3s (created with my old Windows XP system). I've included this mp3s folder in the "my music" library and then I inspected the folder and took ownership of it together with everything it contains (following instructions I found on the Net).

Nevertheless, when I'm trying to delete or move a file I get the message that I need to provide administrator permission! But I thought I am both administrator and owner...

Also, when listen to the songs with WinAmp, it seems I cannon save any song data. I get: Cannot save metadata: Error opening file.

I suppose, it's an aspect of the very same problem.

What am I missing?

thanx.

When I use Windows Explorer to go to C:\Username\Favorites\Subdirectory1\Subdirectory2, I see different content than when I go to C:\Users\U Username\Favorites\Subdirectory1\Subdirectory2.

When I open Favorites from within Internet Explorer 9, I see the content of the second case (C:\Users\U Username\Favorites\Subdirectory1\Subdirectory2).

Why do I have two sets of similar, but not identical sets of Internet Explorer Favorites Subdirectories and Favorites files?

I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 SP1 and I have Admin privileges. I know IE9 is not the latest version, but that?s what my company insists we use.

Thanks for your help!

A:C:\Username\Directory1 Vs. C:\Users\Username\Directory1

The real path is c:\users\username\favorites\......... this is the one Windows uses for everything user-specific. There is no reason why there should be a c:\username\........ folder at all. Presumably, it has been created by some user, perhaps in error, but it's not taken into account for anything. Just move its contents inside the users folder and it should merge both.

Know where I can get a nice CPU
I already have a monitor. All I need is a good place to buy a nice CPU cheap.

It must come with all the up to date features including a dvd/cdrw combo drive and a fast processor. Don't need any software except for the drivers for the hardware of course.

Probablt done before but I found this really very helpful as my machine is failing to hold BIOS settings and this is so quick to find out what version without having to go to the BIOS.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping ComputerWe apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you are unable to create a log because your computer cannot start up successfully please provide detailed information about the Windows version you are using: What we in particular need to know is version, edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system. [/b]If you are unsure about any of these caracteristics, just let us know and we'll help you figuring it out. Please also tell us if you have your Windows CD/DVD handy. Please include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far. Please refrain from running tools or applying updates other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.Even if you have already provided information about your PC, we need a new log to see what has changed since you originally posted your problem. We need to create an OTL ReportPlease download OTL from one of the following mirrors:This is THE MirrorSave it to your desktop.Double click on the icon on your desktop.Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox. In the custom scan box paste the following:

Don't know if anyone has posted before about this brand of UPS but if anyone is looking for a nice unit I have a CyberPower BR850ELCD 510 Watt unit that comes with software and a lead you hook up and you can tell what is happening like current load, battery capacity etc from an icon on th e screen - see pics.

A bit more pricey - well out here it is - than those no good Belkin heaps but worth it for keeping an eye on your usage and available power.
Forgot to put you click on the spanner at the side of the gadget to get the readout bit.

A:My nice new UPS

Even if you don't use the UPS feature, it would be handy for plugging in machines just to see how much juice they used.

You may be surprised at how little it is in this day of 1000 watt power supplies.

Using Win 8.1

First off, the account I'am signed on with is listed as admin type account. It's the one I had to enter my windows account email.
Since installing the new MalwareBytes 2.0 program (which went in without any problem) it put an shortcut icon on desktop. I tried too move the icon from desktop to another folder and it said I needed admin rights to do this. Usually once I click on continue it gives me access and proceeds to carry out the command.
So I followed the tutorial to build hidden admin account. I type in: net user administrator /active:yes, it completed. I signed on to the admin account and tried the same operation and it still asked for admin rights.
What am I doing wrong?

UpDate: MalwareBytes 2.0 has a self protection ability that needs to not be enabled, otherwise everything associated with the Program including program icons located anywhere cannot be moved.

Recently I did a clean install from the windows installation tool off a CD I made. Soon after logging on and making my first account (again!) I couldn't open the C drive. I messed with the owner options and made my account the owner so I could open it. Possibly before or maybe after (I'm not sure) I realised I wasn't able to use any admin settings, (like add another account or see advanced system settings) open any applications that required admin rights (like CMD or any installation file) or do anything in the system menu. I've tried to look up the solution but can't find anything that fits the description of my problem. Any help is welcome. Thanks in advance for at least reading this.

Also trying to access files from the admin account when it prompts me with a password I enter it and the dialogue box goes away as if it has accepted the password but does not let me access the files. Any help appreciated thanks.

Hi Guys I'm new to this forum as in this is my first post so please be gentle with Admin? Standard Account to Hidden (Admin) Transferring me if this has been answered before So anyway I have a standard account with admin privileges turned off UAC etc but it doesn't seem to be elevated all the time for example I still see the quot admin shield Transferring Standard (Admin) Account to Hidden Admin? quot icon next to some programs on my desktop Most of the time I have to right click and select quot Run as Administrator quot from the popup menu and also Windows still asks me when something needs admin mode and do I want to continue I have Transferring Standard (Admin) Account to Hidden Admin? activated the hidden true admin account on my PC and when I log into that everything is elevated and great no more prompts etc which is what I want But the problem is it looks very basic I want to be able to transfer all my settings from my standard admin account to my true admin account is this possible I've tried going to system- gt advanced system settings- gt user profiles to copy the account across but the copy button is grayed out If this is not possible is there any way to make this standard admin account the full type which is always elevated Hope someone can help me I'm getting very annoyed having to give permission for things I want to do all the time Thanks in advance -milw rm

A:Transferring Standard (Admin) Account to Hidden Admin?

Hello milw0rm, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You could use the tutorial below to elevate your standard administrator account to have the same elevated rights as the built-in elevated Administrator account.

Be warned though, that all Metro Store apps and the Store will not work in an elevated account.

User Account Control (UAC) - Elevate Privilege Level - Vista Forums

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I'm having some issues with my upgrade to win system me Programs asking passwords and for admin user admin Programs that need elevated access are now asking me for both the Sys Admin and my local admin password Of course the sys admin has no password and my local admin does So no matter what I do I get it wrong Earlier today I was trying to reset the tiles in my start menu to default I followed directions I found on the web activated the sys admin account went to the sys admin account the users app data tabletray But I kept getting the error that something quot was already in use quot and I couldn't copy all the files I went ahead Programs asking me for system admin and user admin passwords and pasted what I had in my local admin and standard user account then I disabled the sys admin account Now some programs icons I installed earlier today have disappeared I have to go to an admin account to gain access and turn them on MSI afterburner And any program that needs Programs asking me for system admin and user admin passwords admin access I'm not sure if I'm giving it access or it's just starting without admin access Seems like the next time I re-boot or log off I have to do it all over again when a program asks for elevated access it shows sys admin account AND local admin account above the password box Is that normal I could have sworn it only had my local admin account listed before If I have to re-install where do I Programs asking me for system admin and user admin passwords get the free win upgrade again are those files saved on my pc

Hey, I know how to post this, but I run into a problem, I am unable to actually to run the BSOD file collections app. I run it as administrator and it just flashes and posts info of my OS. I already complete the Perfmon file. I will still post that along with the other information.

? OS - Vista/ Windows 7 ? Windows 7
? x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64
? What was original installed OS on system? Windows 7
? Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? OEM version
? Age of system (hardware) 1 year
? Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? Yes, 2 months ago.
? CPU - Alienware
? Video Card - NVidia GeForce 460xm
? MotherBoard - Alienware m17xr3 motherboard
? Power Supply - brand & wattage

Also if I could get help with running the File collection applet that would be great so I can make this complete.

I have downloaded and used JRT,ATF Cleaner, mbar, tdsskiller,Roguekiller, tfc, esets, mvregcleaner,Emsisoft, all to no avail........

I cannot however get Farbar to install and run as Norton keeps deleting it.

Allright i found out more, Im infact infected with a trojan "Vundo"

While I was using the computer suddenly AVG kept asking me if I wanted to force remove a threat, so I did, then the computer crashed.

I restarted in safe mode, installed MalwareBytes and ran a Quick Scan which came up with 4 infections

Here is the log:

Just been offered by my supplier out here and I do like the look and the functionality of it.
SILENT BASE 800 | SILVER be quiet! Silent PSU & Cooling for your PC

A:Looks a nice case

Pros and Cons (based on my opinion - for whatever that is worth)
Pros
Washable filters,
Large 140mm fans (see cons),
I/O ports and buttons on top (see cons),
Good cable management,
Excellent noise suppression (see cons)

Cons
Large fans are behind solid (not mesh) front cover,
Width with attached legs is very wide (266mm/10.47 inches) - barely fits my desk's computer slot, leaving no room for side ventilation - important since the side panels have essential vents. It is pretty tall for a mid-tower too,
Noise suppression results in less air flow, hampering heat extraction even with great fan support,
Pricy,
I/O ports and buttons are great if your case will sit on or near the floor, but here they extend well beyond the front so if case is under a desktop, they maybe hard to see and reach.A good case and quality PSU form the foundation for a great computer for years to come. But a case really needs to be functional before pretty. After all, it should not distract you from paying attention to what's on your monitor(s). That is a definitely a good case, but it is huge for a mid-tower.

I recommend you read some professional reviews.

Ok, so for starters I have a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P motherboard. Now my owners manual that came with the motherboard states that it can support 2 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 8GB of system memory. Also support for DDR3 1333+ (O.C.)/1066/80 MHz memory modules, while the website says it can support up to 2 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 16 GB of system memory and also the DDR3 1333+ support.

Now my actual question is, is what does it mean by the 1333+ support? Can I run high end gaming memory sticks at higher than 1333, and if so how would I go about doing that? Also, how can I tell if I have the latest BIOS that means I can support the 16GB of memory if that's true now with my motherboard.

Could you maybe give me some good memory options that would be great for a gaming experience? I'm slowly building up this PC.

A:I have a RAM question, would be nice for some help.

Hiyya silk no mate 1333MHz is the highest speed that board will support you can find the recommended RAM by looking at the list here http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList...-78lmt-s2p.pdf

If you want some good advice on RAM the G Skill forum is a good spot to go to Welcome to the G.SKILL TECH FORUM Tradesman is real helpful.

When you buy RAM too remember to buy it in pairs or quad sets as they are more likely to be evenly matched .

Preferably full ATX.
My main thing is that i was hoping to get one that had 2 PCI express x16 slots (2.0) to upgrade to crossfire later on but I can only find ones that have 1 x16 and 1 x4. Which...doesnt work well.
If one doesnt exist, thats fine.
I just need a motherboard that supports 8GB (which isnt hard), my phenom II x4, and at least a PCI express 2.0 x16 slot. no SATA speed preference, USB 3.0 is not important to me, although its a nice feature. (and preferably not have the whole board cluttered with everything in a cramped space, might upgrade cooler for overclock eventual).

Im having a hard time finding one that's reliable and consistently built.
Please let me know.

So I am currently fixing my last problem I had which was the blue screen of death, but I have something else I am wondering about... My computer always tells me when I restart my computer that I have one important message, and it tells me to turn my network firewall on. Sounds simple, but it's not... Everytime I click "Turn on now" is comes up with an error message "Action Center can't turn on Windows Firewall." and then it tells me to turn on windows firewall manually. But when I try and do that it gives me another error, "Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings. Error code 0x8007042c". Help would be greatly appreciated

Hello guys
(sorry for my grammar)

in these days i am going to buy a new Pc, with a motherboard D915PGN INTEL

but the joke is choice the video card and i have this option

http://w2-bs.deltron.com.pe/modulos/productos/items/postsql.php?item_number=VDFPCSAPX1300

the cost in my country to buy is aprox of 160 dollars, is very cheapest than others of the
same capacity (512mb)

the question is if "SAPPHIRE" is a good choice or good company of video cards
and if this card is an excelent choice

the features of this card are agree with the maket to play doom3 and quake4???

have some problems with linux? special with Fedora Core 4

if this card is not a good choice, please give me models in ATI and Nvidia to buy

thanks a lot for your time

A:trying to buy a nice card - help me please

It looks like that video card will work in your system.

But that card is a very low performance card. For the newer games, I wouldn't really recommend that card. What other choices do you have?

Here is an excellent article to compare the PCIexpress cards.
http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/12/02/vga_charts_viii/

I'd say as a MINIMUM you want the 6600GT card.

Good luck!

A:hello nice people !

Welcome to TSF. A reasonable donation is up to the giver. Just donate what you believe our services to be worth to you, as your problem is resolved.

=============

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go here to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link don't work) and install it. Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):

C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\AutoUpdate.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\shipldlg.exe

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

AutoUpdate

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AutoUpdater] "C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\AutoUpdate.exe"

O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windupdates.com/cab/D...bridge-c336.cab

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\Documents and Settings\Danny\app.exe
C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\
C:\WINDOWS\system32\shipldlg.exe

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you m... Read more

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running. Ad-Aware? SE Personal Edition
Spybot Search & Destroy
CWShredder

Also make sure you are using the the latest version (1.99.1) of HijackThis and it's installed in it's own folder on the root drive. (C:\HJT)

Please run an online scan at http://www.pandasoftware.com/actives..._principal.htm

For anybody who hates IE as bad as me. Is tired of FF's funky updates and looks, and is scared go chrome, there are two more out there by Comodo. One is Dragon, it looks almost exactly like Chrome, and Ice Dragon, which looks exactly like the old FF did before the last 6 billion updates, both will run their counterparts apps and both gave better security ( I think,)

A:nice set of browsers

there are lots of choices out there. I personally have ie, opera, firefox, chrome, safari installed on my windows computers and opera, chrome, firefox Epiphany, and; Konqueror on my linux computers. I tend to stick with firefox because of the extensions I need.

There is a user Dad with admin privileges on a Windows machine this is me There are other users kid and kid with no admin privileges my kids - I want to let kid and kid access the contents of a directory in my userspace C Users Dad In fact it's not users wants a directory share to non-admin Admin with at the top level let's say it's C Users Admin wants to share a directory with non-admin users Dad ownCloud photos because it is I want Admin wants to share a directory with non-admin users to let kid have read write access and kid read only access I navigated my way to C Users Dad ownCloud and then right-clicked on photos clicked on properties clicked on the sharing tab and did what looked like the sensible thing gave the kids the required access I then logged in as kid and attempted to find my way to C Users Dad ownCloud photos I got there -- but on the way I saw far too much -- kid can see a complete list of the names of all files and directories in D Users Dad not ideal and also names of all files and directories in C Users Dad ownCloud which is not acceptable because that is my entire life in the cloud Is this expected behaviour when sharing directories in Windows If not what did I do wrong If so then this is no good and I guess I need a workaround The problem is that I am not at all sure that I can move the directory because it part of a cloud storage service like Dropbox but a different company and as far as I know that directory ownCloud photos the one I want to share with my kids must be a subdirectory of ownCloud the one that I really don't want my kids to be able to view the contents of Also not a viable solution is re-organizing the directory structure of ownCloud i e putting photos at the top and everything else in another directory called quot not for kids quot or whatever -- the problem with that solution is that this directory ownCloud is shared by me on many machines and if I start changing things around then various scripts running on other machines would immediately fail -- the directory structure cannot be messed with I think I need to have most directory names in C Users Dad ownCloud not visible but the entire directory C Users Dad ownCloud photos visible I'm not worried whether the kids can access the directory directly or via some network share or anything -- I just don't want them to see the names of all files and directories in C Users Dad ownCloud In unix this would be easy to do because one has very fine control on who can see what one could remove read access from C Users Dad but still allow read access to subdirectories How does one do that in Windows PS Lol quot I'm having trouble sharing quot a clickable option on the Share window That sometimes applies to my kids -- nice to see that it applies to me today

A:Admin wants to share a directory with non-admin users

NTFS Folder Permissions

I'm thinking if you create a symbolic link in C:\Users\Public you may be able to let the kids go directly to the shared folder. Perhaps then you can deny Traverse permission to block the parent folder. But I haven't done it myself.

Stoik Joker, who has the NTFS permissions page in the above link, is also a regular poster on DonationCoder.com. You may be able to ask for clarifications there. And of course someone with SysAdmin type experience may chime in here.

If you succeed using external info please post the solution.

Greetings,

I am trying to change the folder properties of a applications folder from read only. I am doing this per instructions from the apps provider to prevent crashes.

When I go to change the permissions it states I need admin privileges. The only account I have on the box is the admin however I did change the name to something besides admin. The account is definitely an admin account.

Any thoughts?

Hi.

The main (and only account) I have been using since the first beta came out had administrator privileges.

Today when I booted up I noticed that my account could no longer do things that are associated with an admin account, such as installing certain programs and writing to certain folders.

I created another account with admin rights and that account has the exact same problem. I tried removing the admin status on my account and putting it back on but that did not work.

Anyone else have this problem or have any advice on how to get my account seen as an admin account?

A:Could a nice tech look at this Hijack log?

Hi MSunshine, welcome to TSG.

Well, there's no nice tech around so you're stuck with me.

Not sure how updated Spybot is. Just to make sure, go here and download AdAware:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=506
Make sure you download current updates and then configure AdAware for your initial scan as follows:

Click on Start > custom scanning options > Customize.

Check the following settings:

-Scan within archives
-Scan active processes
-Scan registry
-Deep scan registry
-Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL
-Scan my host-file

Click on Tweak > Select scanning engine and click on "Unload recognized processes during scanning"

Select cleaning engine > click on "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

Then click "proceed" to save your settings.

Click on Next then scan. Everything AdAware finds is safe to delete.
Then, close your browser and check the following entries in HJT, click Fix and then REBOOT.

Post a new log when done, okay?

A:Will this stuff play nice?

Should make a nice machine for the stated purposes. The Athlon 2000+ runs at 266 Mhz so that is all the memory speed it will support. 333 Mhz (PC2700) will work fine, just clock back to match the processor, but unless you can get it for the same price, 266 Mhz would be the way to go.

Go for it!
