Preferred Solution: Ntfs.sys PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGE AREA / Registry Fault

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Ntfs.sys PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGE AREA / Registry Fault

the error means that your PC asked for a page of memory , and the page was not available. when the operation could not continue, it BSOD'd and shut down. Its usually happens as a result of a hardware that is misfiring or failing. The 'Page_Fault_in_Nonpaged_Area' and "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal" BSOD's often show up consecutively and alternately. Things to try to correct or identify the problem are to restore your machine to the last know working configuration. if the problem keeps appearing run disk check for errors on your HDD. if that shows nothing, the next most likely suspect is a problem with the Ram. You can download any number of programs that will test your ram for errors. Win 7 has a built in memory test (not sure about the RC though) and you do not have to burn a disc to run it. Hope that helps some.

hi, im new and i found my way here whilst googling the error message in the title. unfortuneatly the thread i was reading is now locked so i started a new one (i hope thats ok)

iam trying to fix my friends computer which bluescreens randomly with the error in the thread title.

i saw the in other thread people were asked to provide minidump files, so i have attached some here also.

there are only 4 files in the zip (due to 100kb limit here). the last 3 files are the ones generated whilst the computer has been in my posession.

can anyone throw any light onto what may be the problem, could it be bad ram?

thanks in advance
alex

Hi, my computer was fine for the past year to two years, i've never gotten a BSOD. But yesterday I got one and I've been struggling to deal with it since. I believe the problem may be with a hard drive of mine. Because everytime I even attempt to plug it into the USB (its in an enclosure right now), it gives me a BSOD. And the same thing happens when i try to plug it in as a regular sata hard drive. anything I do i get a BSOD. I am even unable to boot the computer from the cd. any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated, because I do not want to lose the things on that hard drive. I will also post the six minidumps.

Thank you.

You uploaded the application instead of the data. Please try this method instead.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

sptd.sys: Device driver from Alcohol or DaemonTools

My personal feeling is, it's your Norton AntiVirus causing the issue.
But un-installing Alcohol or DaemonTools will fix it

Both minidumps are stating hardware as the issue but nothing specific as to what hardware it can be. So...

1. Go to your start menu and run ChKDsk in your Run box.

2. Run a full harddrive diagnostics. This will take time but well worth it.

3. Run MemTest on your RAM for a minimum of 7 passes. If you have errors you need to run this test on each stick to determine the corrupted memory stick (s). Replace.

Hi there, moved my pc to a relatives house today temporarily, was moving an HDMI cable onto my graphics card for a second monitor, all seemed to be well and then out of nowhere the BSOD appeared. I can now only run the computer in safe mode. As a precaution I purchased spy hunter on top of malware bytes to check it's not a viral issue and I was in fact infected with a lot of things malware bytes hadn't been able to detect. Deleted all of those and have since run another scan with spy hunter as well as with malware bytes, I can only assume it's a hardware issue of some sort?

I also downloaded blue screen view copied all of the errors and dumped them into a .txt file which I have attached. Can anyone assist me?

Thanks in advance,

Max

Hello, 1MTM91. I will try to help you but I need you to do a few things first.

We need your complete system specs. Please include your PSU and CPU cooler and the Manufacturer and Model of all components.

Please fill out your System Specs

   Information
Your System Specs will help us to help you, and doing it in this manner will make them available to all helpers in every post and keep us from hunting for them. We ask that you fill them out in as much detail as possible including Desktop or Laptop, Model number if it is an OEM computer and all components with the Manufacturer and Model number if possible.

If you will go to your last post and click the 'System Specs' in the bottom left of the post, you will find a link to update your system specs. Please fill those out in as much detail as possible, making sure to click save at the bottom of the page. If you would like to know what we would like, you can click 'My System Specs' at the bottom left of this post to see mine. If you do not know what your components are, this will help you accomplish this task. System Info - See Your System Specs
Please upload the BSOD Posting Instructions http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html. Upload the files here, this will tell you how. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/9733-screenshots-files-upload-post-seven-forums.html

You have 3 anti Virus programs listed. It is never a good idea to run more than 1 real time anti virus. Spy Hunter is not very well known and not very popular.

Please open an elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

Are you referring to a permission denial by attempting to attach the dumps directly? You'll need to zip them first before sending them over, as only certain file types are permitted. Plus there's a 5 MB limit (doubt that's the cause though).

A:Blue Screen - Page Fault in non Page Area

you could do a few different things, download memtest and test your RAM for faults: http://majorgeeks.com/MemTest_d350.html

Also go to start, right-click my computer click properties, click the advanced tab, click settings under perfromance, click advanced tab, click change, make sure it is set to system managed size. (EDIT: sorry this is the XP way, not on my vista machine at the moment, try something like that, if it you cant find it ill find the vista way for you)

If it still messes up, post back with your event viewer logs for any errors reported arround that time.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Your minidump crashes at HSFHWAZL.sys. This is your 56k modem driver.

If you don`t use a 56k modem, uninstall it. If you do use it, check for any updated drivers. See HERE for info.

Hello,

I suspect bad RAM. Try testing it, using this guide:sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

Sorry about the non-parsed link, I had to edit it to avoid detection by the forum software, which apparently prohibits new members like myself from posting links.

Firefox.exe was running in 2 dumps, which makes me suspect a network issue. Remove Norton, as per these directions: jcgriff2.com/NRT_N360_Removal.html

Replace it with MSE: microsoft.com/security_essentials

So just today, i turn on my computer, but i receive a BSOD, that says "Page fault in a Non page Area",
After some researching i clean my computer, and still receive the error.

I can safely boot into safe mode, and after booting into safe mode i can then boot into windows 7 (Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit) normally after restarting. But the computer just goes not responding, and i can't do anything.

I've run memtest but there's no problems.
I also have a minidump file.

Is there any solution to this?

A:Solved: BSOD Page Fault in Non Page Area

The minidump is showing klif.sys, Klif Mini-Filter fre_wnet_x86 from Kaspersky Lab, as the probable cause for your BSOD. Basically, it's a driver part of your Kaspersky software.

You may have installed a 32-bit version of Kaspersky on a 64-bit version of Windows 7.

Uninstall Kaspersky completely and try your computer again.

I fault in area page non page BSOD have been having issues with the BSOD since I first turned on the Laptop It was a very good price so I kept it dispsite the BSOD problems I have checked the drivers and updated what was updateable I flashed the Bios as newer version was available BSOD message changed between the Fault in non page area one about NTSF and one with no reason Originally the BSOD would pop up unexpectedly I have to restored or repaired every time I start up the Laptop That has changed now it seems to only happen at system start ups I can restart the laptop repeatedly with no problems once it is stable As long as there is a very short off time quot restart quot If I turn it off for a few hours overnight or for days I have to start the repair restore procedure all over again Until it is stabilized I have tried making a restore check point before turning off and going directly to the restore on thr next start up This seems to be a temporary work around until I can find the cause and correct it Also running a registry checker and repairing it has stopped the need to do factory resets as BSOD page fault in non page area the system BSOD page fault in non page area becomes more and more unstable with each BSOD Note The clock does NOT lose time So that rules out the internal battery I keep it plugged into a power outlet all the times There are NO AC and Battery problems I hope you can find the reason for the crashes in the attached files I hope I have attached and collected the files correctly

Boot off of the Windows Disc Or download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn Boot off of the CD and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
You can also download the ISO image for Seatools, or WD DataLifeGuardin my signature and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn also in my signature and boot off of the newly created CD and run the Quick and Advanced tests on the HDD to test the integrity of the drive.

A:BsoD Page Fault in Non Page Area

Please follow this small guide to attach your minidump files so they can be analysed.
First locate your minidump files, open Windows Explorer and click on the C: drive in the left pane, in the right pane look down the list of folders and double click on Windows to view its contents. NOTE: If your operating system is installed under a different drive letter then look there. Scroll down the contents of the Windows folder and look for a folder called minidump and double click on it. You should now see the minidump files which will have a .dmp extension.

Zip up at least 6 of the most recent files into one zip folder (if there are less then just zip up what you have).
NOTE: To zip up the files in Windows (all versions). Right click the file, click on Send To, and then click
Compressed (zipped) Folder. That will create a zip folder containing a copy of the file, you should see it appear.

If there is more than one .dmp file click on the first one, hold down the shift key and then click on the last one. That should highlight all the files. Then right click in the highlighted area, click on Send To, and then click Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Below the Message Box click on Go Advanced. Then scroll down until you see a button, Manage Attachments. Click on that and a new window opens.
Click on the Browse button, find the zip folder you made earlier and click on it so it becomes highlighted and click on Open.
Now click on the Upload button. Wait for the Upload to complete, it will appear just below the Browse box.
When done, click on the Close this window button at the top of the page.
Enter your message-text in the message box, then click on Submit Message/Reply.

A:BSOD-page fault in non page area

Hello Trx8 and welcome to Sevenforums.

BSOD Analyse

I'm suspecting 3rd party drivers, let's enable Driver Verifier.

Quote:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "IRP Logging", "Force Pending I/O Requests" and "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next" ("Special Pool" may be able to be used depending on amount of RAM and errors being seen. In situations with small amounts of RAM, DO NOT select it),
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and locate the memory dump file. If present, turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page. Then, zip up the memory dump file(s) and upload them with your next post. If no dump files were generated, post back for further suggestions.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

If that doesn't work, post back and we'll have to see about fixing the registry entry off-line:

Code:
Delete these registry keys to stop Driver Verifier from loading (works in XP, Vista, Win7):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDrivers
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDriverLevel

Pay close attention to part 3 of the tutorial "If you have errors"
Test the RAM with Memtest86+ for at least 7-10 passes. It may take up to 22 passes to find problems. Make sure to run it once after the system has been on for a few hours and is warm, and then also run it again when the system has been off for a few hours and is cold.

I've been getting a BSOD for quite some time. (about 3 or 4 months)
At first they would usually pop up when I've had the computer for most of the day, but recently they've just come as they please.
I've done a Memory Diagnostics and it showed no problems.
I've included from what I've read I believe to be a minidump of the BSOD.
I've decided to send multiple errors I found in my system event log just to be on the safe side since I don't know which errors I'm looking for.
If you could find anything that could explain what is causing this, please let me know.

Thank you.

A:Page fault in non page area BSOD

I've also read the sticky in the BSOD topic and completed steps 1-4.
I've included that as well.
Unfortunately, I do not know all the parts in my computer since I was not the one that bought them or put the computer together.

I know 3rd party anti-virus programs are famous for causing BSODs in Windows 7 and Vista, and Kaspersky is certainly one of them. Please remove it with this tool: http://support.kaspersky.com/downloa...vremover10.zip

Replace it with the free Microsoft Security Essentials: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials

If that does not work, please enable driver verifier: Using Driver Verifier to identify issues with Drivers

PC Specs : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3340 CPU @3.10GHz 3.30GHz
RAM : 8.00GB
64 bit
Manufacturer : Gigabyte Technology

I Got a BSoD with some of the following text " CDD.DLL PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGE AREA "
I ran the Chkdsk Tool on windows and scanned with AVG and got nothing.
I'm pretty sure it's a RAM related problem , but not too sure , so I downloaded the SF diagnosis tool to get info to upload , please evaluate the logs and see if you can see a problem , thanks.

Hello, WayneTrain welcome to the Forums. I will try to help you. First start off by uninstalling all of the Gigabyte utilities as they are known BSOD causers. Next, reinstall your graphics drivers using this method
NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems

See if that makes any differences to your system. Your dump files showed

A:BSOD - Page fault in non page area

Your BSOD errors are being caused by nv4_disp.dll, which is an Nvidia graphics card driver. The BSODs are occurring while TS3SP03.exe is running, and TS3SP03.exe is related to SIMS3.

If the BSOD only occurs when playing the SIMS3, it would be difficult to blame the graphics card drivers. On the other hand, updating or re-installing the Nvidia graphics drivers might help.

Hi there, I've recently been getting some weird crashes when I play Age of Empires 3. I'm not sure about other games, as this is the only one I've played in quite awhile. Randomly, I will get a BSOD, sometimes not at all though. The last one I got said PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA. I've attached 6 (2 zips) minidumps in hopes that somebody can help me out

EDIT: I've read the pinned thread on what to do before attaching minidumps and completed (as best i could) all of the steps, but still get a BSOD. I have 1GB of memory, but it's in 4 sticks of 256MB so I couldn't really switch to a new slot. I did, however, clean the contacts.

This might be a little longish and for that I apologize This morning I turned on my Windows Ultimate Dell XPS and it ran for a few minutes and in fault BSOD area non-page Page threw the BSOD error code described in the title Let the system reboot it ran for a few minutes and did the same thing OK Now we have a pattern I'm not sure what it means but there is a pattern I tried to restore to a previous date June th and today is the th and everything seemed to be BSOD Page fault in non-page area going ok until it was complete Now the system is restarted but I'm getting no video except for the cursor I have video during POST but nothing except the cursor after Windows starts Same thing happens during start up or start up in safe mode Obviously I can't see anything on the screen so I can't troubleshoot very extensively but if anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate your help

A:BSOD Page fault in non-page area

Since Vista and 7 are very similar, and I just had the "black screen with cursor only" issue myself, this may help you, but I think it may be graphics driver related. I went to update my Nvidia graphics drivers, and it must not have worked properly, because all i got upon boot was a black screen with a cursor. i would get the windows boot logo and animation, and then it would go to a black screen.
I did not get the BSOD, because I have the pagefile turned off(I have 8GB of system RAM).

For my solution, you will need 2 things: current Nvidia drivers, and a program called driver sweeper.

First, boot in safe mode, and go into your control panel, and "uninstall" the nvidia graphics drivers. it sounds stupid, but this is the only effective way to uninstall the graphics drivers because of the software nvidia bundles with them. Next, run driver sweeper, and get rid of all remnants of the graphics card drivers. Then, reboot. First, go into a regular boot to see if you get video on the generic drivers from windows. If you do, your cards are good, reboot again, and go into safemode once again. If you dont get video upon normal reboot with generic drivers, see the * after this. Once back in safe mode, run the nvidia installer package, as administrator. It will install, and will prompt you to reboot. Reboot into a normal boot cycle and you should be fine, and have video again.

* if you boot into a normal boot, and you have followed the steps to remove your graphics drivers, you will be using windows generic ones. If you dont have video here, your graphics card may be faulty, or your hardware may be faulty, and you should contact your computer manufacturer for tech support or for an RMA.

OK... in a fit of "I'm going to clean all the old junk off my computer"... I accidently started to remove something connected to ATI. Then the computer froze.
Now when I try to reboot I get the blue screen with the Page Fault in Non Page Area message.
I have tried a System Restore but that did not help.
I can start in safe mode.
What do I do now? Please talk to me in "Baby Computer" language!

<<When trying to run from the e-machines XP Media Center OS Disc.>>

Why? That disk is supposed to be used to reinstall the O/S, why the reinstall effort?

<<I couldn't get Seatools to run on the client's computer because the mouse wasn't recognized in the Seatools GUI.>>

Was the mouse PS2, USB, or wireless?

If wireless or USB, try a PS2 mouse. If USB, ensure that USB functionality is enabled at boot within the BIOS.

I like to eliminate possible variables, IMO it sounds like a hard drive problem.

System manufacturer and model?

No recovery disks or recovery partition?

I have a dell dimension 2400 that lost power in a storm. It would not reboot because of a corrput file WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM. I could not fix that so I tried to repair...successful. I got a win98 boot disk and fdisk the drive. When I try to format and install win xp home, I get the error PAGE FAULT IN NON-PAGED AREA. I have tried installing the HD in a computer that works and I get the same message. It has to be in the HD but I don't know what to do next???

Hmmm...you say that you did a successful repair...yet you say that you cannot install XP.

Which is it?

Do you have an XP CD that would permit access to the Recovery Console and/or a repair install of XP?

Hi, I got this message "Page Fault in Non Paged Area." with a BSOD.

I have changed the destination of my Page File (From my OS disk to another). Because I have an SSD and it took some place, I moved it to another HDD.
What caused this?

Help Appreciated!
I know I havent installed all drivers for my motherboard, but that's on purpose because I dont want the ATI catalyst drivers on my computer, also, that shouldnt have anything to do with pagefile should it?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, first check Device Manager
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm
Check for exclamtion marks.
If a driver update is needed - always go to the manufacturers website.
-------
Check and post
TSG System Information Utility - found here.
http://library.techguy.org/wiki/TSG_Valuable_links
-------
Download Security Check by screen317 from
http://screen317.spywareinfoforum.org/
Or
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/securitycheck/

Save it to your Desktop.
Double click the install icon.
If using Vista - Win 7 - right click the install icon and select "Run as Administrator"
A command Prompt window will open.
Let it scan the Pc - press any key when asked.
It should now open in Notepad - and will save a log called checkup.txt.
Post the result of the scan here.

Hi everyone, any help I can get would be appreciated. Couple of friends and I built a desktop and now it bsod's on me every 10 minutes or so. I checked a couple of pages on the site regarding the page fault, so I updated the drivers on my video card which has been giving me problems AND I ran memtest86. No luck in either department.

We can be tons more help if you can axxess your comptuer just a bit. the bsod stores the info about the crash in a dump file (*.dmp) which is usually located in c:\windows\minidump. If you go there zip the dump file and upload it to us (use the attachment icon shaped like a paperclip) we can tell you whats what.

Ley us know if you need help with anything and we will be standing by

Attach Minidumps by doing the following:

Go to C drive > go to Windows Folder > find Minidump Folder and click on said folder. There will be Minidump files within. I usually make a temporary folder on my desktop screen and transfer my Minidumps files for easy access.

When you post back to this thread attach Minidumps like you would any file or document; the best way is to put them in a Zip format if you can, especially if you have a number of them.

Hi guys,
So i received this error this morning after rebooting. Ive read numerous responses posted over the net and a lot of it is rather vague. I cant load Xp Pro not even into safe mode. I havent installed any new software. No hardware changes have been made. I tried boot log so I could read it using my back up OS HDD, but there is no ntbtlog.txt. I used chkdsk and there were no problems found. im thinking it might be ram, but i cant afford the downtime to run memtest.
any ideas would be appreciated.

cheers

Most often, this error message is caused by driver errors. Download and reinstall your video graphics driver to start. Look at all the drivers to see if there have been recent upgrades you may want to download.
Then run a Memtest86 test for four hours or 7 passes, which ever comes first. Be sure your CPU fan is working well.

Check this thread out for some preliminary stuff to do (get to it as you are able): BSOD troubleshooting preliminaries - Vox

Also, navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump, zip up the contents of that folder and upload/attach it to your next post. We'll have a look at it to see if there's an issue that we can identify.

This could be a few different things from what I have read. However, one of the most common explanations is that it is a bad RAM dimm/module. If you have multiple dimms, try messing around with different configurations and see if it is the RAM module or dimm. I had this happen once and with my instance it ended up being the dimm.

I got a BSOD with this error description. I don't know what the culprit is but it is somehow related to RAM (whether it be hardware or a software's usage of RAM). The computer booted up just fine so I think it could be software specific. I was playing Zuma's Revenge at the time - it is not resource intensive so I don't know what would cause this issue.

Attached are the relevant files.

Hi Jalebi!

I can't see any minidump files in the one you uploaded. Please following this instruction instead to post your minidump, and also make sure you have set your system to create minidump:

upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Start your own thread in the "Crashes and Debugging" section of the forum and attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
* Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

Quote:
Windows 7:
Go to Start and type in "sysdm.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Click on the Advanced tab
Click on the Startup and Recovery Settings button
Ensure that "Automatically restart" is unchecked
Under the Write Debugging Information header select "Small memory dump (64 kB)" in the dropdown box
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as "%systemroot%\Minidump" (without the quotes)
Click OK twice to exit the dialogs, then reboot for the changes to take effect.

If you are using any program such as CCleaner, they may clean out your minidump folder, please double check that

Sometimes when I'm using my computer it goes to a blue screen with a dire error message that says:

PAGE-FAULT-IN-NON-PAGED-AREA

and the error codes displayed are:

0xc000005, 0x859BOC9, Ox00000000, 0X0000008E

I'm a little worried because it's happening more and more frequently as of late.

Any idea why it's happening and why?

Thanks.

A:Page-Fault-In-Non-Paged-Area

It can be a problem to pin down.
Its trying to address memory in areas that it does not exist.

Its often associated with faulty RAM, and if you have the option to run with one stick in (assuming you have 2 sticks) then you could eliminate that.

Also heat can cause it, by allowing components to exceed their critical temperature they may become flakey.

Try re-seating the RAM in the sockets for a start?

Hi and welcome to the forums .

To get rid of the BSoD it's worth doing a system restore (System Restore) or if that doesn't work a repair install (Repair Install).

Hopefully this will get you back into windows although the Sims 3 will probably have uninstalled itself due to the system restore.

From here you can see if installing the Sims 3 again causes the same problem which it hopefully won't.

If you have any questions please ask.

When I load up my laptop I receive a blue screen error saying page fault in unpaged error. It just flashes up real quick, not quick enough to read anything else off it and then restarts the pc asking if I want to start in safe mode. I can load up in safe mode, loading with last known good configuration doesn't work. I read somewhere that setting BIOS to defaults may work, tried that and it doesn't. It runs fine in safe mode, I haven't installed any new hardware recently and it was working fine last night when I turned it off. I don't know if its a hardware issue or maybe a virus?

I am running XP Sp2.

I am sort of newbie at this, so if i need to include anything else tell me :D

Cheers

A:Page fault in Unpaged Area

Hi murdoch !

Right-click my computer => properties => advanced => settings under startup and recovery => untick "restart automatically" under system failures. Next time you get a blue error screen the error message will stay until you press enter.

Browse to c:\windows\minidump\, zip the .dmp files you'll see there and attach the zip files to your next post (click on post reply or go advanced to see the manage attachments button). Use an usb flash drive to transfer the file to another computer with web access if needed.

In safe mode go to start => run, type msconfig and go to the startup tab. See if there's any item there that's related to some program you installed recently. Those items aren't loaded in safe mode, if safe mode works fine and the issue is software related chances are the problematic software is listed there. Make sure you don't untick the antivirus and firewall. Refer to bleepingcomputer's startup items database if you have any doubt.

What's the brand and model of your laptop ? If there's an hardware monitor screen in the BIOS please report the sensors readings.

Page fault errors can be caused by faulty ram sticks or errors on the drive, we'll know more once we have the .dmp files.

If you want you can already run (start => run) chkdsk c: /R to test the hard drive for errors. Answer y when prompted to schedule the scan at next startup. Restart the computer, let the scan run (it'll take some time) and once you're back within Windows go to start => run and type eventvwr.msc. Double-click the latest winlogon event in the application section and you'll see the scan's results. Tell us if chkdsk found any errors.

You can also test your ram with memtest : download, unzip and burn memtest86+'s pre-compiled bootable .iso (.zip) using ImgBurn (select "write image file to disc" and browse for the memtest .iso file). Insert the CD in the laptop, restart the computer, set the boot order priority to CD-rom first in the BIOS, leave memtest run overnight and report if it shows any errors.

Basically ive had fun wit it for 3 days now. Ive read everything on the net and the microsoft help centers suggestions are incredibly stupid. A la uninstalll everythinf that you have and so one. I personally think that my antiviruses messed something up. I see teh damn blue screen when i try to do spyware cheks and run antiviruses.

Also ive found this:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329293#kb3
This could be a problem, because ive done a lot of driver updates lately, but when i typed the "ren C\WINDOWS\inf\oem4.inf *inf.old" it told me that there wasnt such a file "specified".

Could someone help me? Ive reached my limit

There are no BSOD dumps in the report you uploaded.

Browse to your C:/minidumps folder and copy all files from there and paste them to
your desktop. Put them in a zip and upload them here.

I have a vinyl cutter that I connected to my laptop. I used to get the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on my taskbar when I plugged it into my USB port. My computer crashed and I had to install a new hard drive. I must have reinstalled the cutter's software incorrectly, because I don't get the "safely remove" icon anymore and when I unplug the USB cable, I get this page fault error on a BSOD unless I shut the laptop completely OFF first.
Is there a way to fix this without trying to reinstall the cutter? The installation was complicated to start with, so I really don't want to start over and risk doing it wrong all over again.
Thanks in advance! (pic of screen attached in case that helps)

I had this problem a while back and it seemed to resolve itself when I installed SP2.
I had to reinstall XP again and - hooray - this problem is back

It seems to happen sporadically; selecting a user on the XP login screen, clicking a link in Firefox, opening a Word doc - I can't see a pattern.
I've run chkdsk, memtest, cleaned my ram contacts as per the guide and no luck.

Attached is my minidump; any ideas what could be the root of my problem? I installed all xp patches, drivers etc, all software is current (filehippo.com) and my video and audio drivers are correct and current using the sis.com model scanner and download facility.

I'm really stumped on this and it's annoying the hell out of me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My Win2Kpro system freezes like this fairly frequently when printing (to Panasonic laser). I have disabled caching and bios shadowing to no avail. I've uploaded new driver for the printer and have installed all W2K upgrades.

Any suggestions on what to do next? I need more technical info.

(And I'm perplexed and frustrated, etc., as often Windows users are).

Took the pc out of standby this morning, and got the msg in the thread title. The code is as follows:

Phyiscal memory dump completed.

I did some searching, and it seems as if several things could cause this. Ram, mobo, bios, etc. Anyone have an idea on how to narrow it down?

Navigate to C:/Windows/minidump.

Take all dump files and zip them up into one file. Upload that to your next post

I keep getting these blue screens which are happening a bit too often lately. It says that the error seems to be "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" and then, by the end of the blue screen, it gives me this message "Dumping physical memory" and a number which moves (from 1 to 80 or something). Any clues? Much appreaciated!! I have Win XP Pro, 1.6 Gb Pentium, 256 MB RAM.

c0x000050 are usually Memory (RAM, Video, Cache) Errors .. Get the exact address and paste that directly into google and learn more about your error .. I would also make sure that your RAM settings in your BIOS are set correctly (AUTO is safe). That's a start for ya

I'm getting a BSOD with this message after downloading updates and restarting to complete their installation.

This is occurring in Windows 8.1 Pro.

I've had none of these issues in Windows 8.1 Core, Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Insider Preview.

The Dell Inspiron 15-5555 has run it's memory test on the second restart twice and this last time I ran the extended Windows Memory test with cache turned on and nothing was found.

My system is a Dell Inspiron 15-5555 with AMD A8 7410 quad-core @ 2.2GHz with integrated Radion R5 graphics, 16GB 2Rx8 PC3-1666 RAM and a 1TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD.

Any ideas please?

Best matches in your scenario marked ?in red?. The description pretty much rules out hardware memory (RAM), Windows' memory test is pretty weak anyway, better to use MemTest86+ from a bootable USB and do 7+ full runs to be sure.

Try to copy any minidumps to your Desktop, zip and attach the zips, I'll take a look and see what shows up. Alt., use the info/collection tools from Sysnative, they'll include more useful data.

A:page fault in nonpaged area

welcome to Seven Forums. I will try to assist you in this. Have you done any work inside your computer recently or installed any new programs or drivers?

Your error is many times caused by memory or memory corruption.

Code:
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (50)
Invalid system memory was referenced. This cannot be protected by try-except,
it must be protected by a Probe. Typically the address is just plain bad or it
is pointing at freed memory.
Arguments:
Arg1: fffff8a00866c000, memory referenced.
Arg2: 0000000000000000, value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation.
Arg3: fffff8000315bbdf, If non-zero, the instruction address which referenced the bad memory
address.
Arg4: 0000000000000000, (reserved)
This is not always caused by bad memory, but can be caused by other things too. So to begin with, boot into safe mode with command prompt and run this,

Open a elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow.

Also, please run memtest86+

Next I would like you to run memtest86+. It is quite a long test as it needs to be run for 8 complete passes all at the same time. Please download the test from Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool. Although the names atr similar, this testis much better than memtest86. It needs to be run for 8 complete passes or until you get an error. If you get an error, stop the test. In the link above if you will go down to the middle of the page you can download either the ISO file which needs to be burned to a CD by Windows image burner or any disk image burner you choose. Or you can download the auto installer for USB Flash drives to run it from a flash drive. Whichever you choose, be sure to download the zip file and extract it. Each Pass consists of 10 tests, each pass checks a different thing and each pass checks different things. It takes a minimum of 8 passes to completely check the ram, more passes are better. It will take quite a number of hours to do the test, so it is usually better run over night. To run the test, boot from the media you chose and don't press any keys, the test will run automatically and will continue running until you tell it to stop. It will tell you how many passes it has run and how many errors are found. If it finds errors they will show up as red lines at the bottom of the page. It will take somewhere around 9-10 hours to check my computer with 8 GB of ram. If you have more it will take much longer.

Here's a link to the error message:http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.php#0x50The first step would be to do a memory test using this free program: http://www.memtest86.com/Follow the directions and let the test run for at least 2 or 3 passes (overnight is better). Then let us know the results and we can move on from there.

I've just been helping out someone with their computer.

He said that he had just printed a picture and the computer went mad and flashed a lot of text and numbers down the screen, these were scrolling. Then turned the computer off and restarted to the 'ntfs.sys missing' error I so know and love.

Tried to restore the file only using the recovery console and the computer BSOD.

Memtest86 reported a huge number of faults. Removed one DIMM and the same, swapped and all ok for 2 passes. Assumed memory fault and tried to restart.

Still no 'ntfs.sys'.

Figured I'd cut losses and reinstall. This also BSOD.

All BSOD were the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA

ARGHHH!!!

Any thoughts? I am thinking this has to be a motherboard fault, please say it is something obvious that I am missing...

A:page fault in non paged area

Are you able to get into Windows in Safe Mode with that fault?

Can you run chkdsk on the drive either from Windows or the Recovery Console? Can you obtain and run a hard drive diagnostic utility from the hard drive vendor?

If you can make it to Windows:

I can run a debugging utility on the dump files if you do this:

1 > create a new folder on the desktop and call it "dumpcheck" or whatever you like
2 > navigate to c:\windows\minidump and copy the last 2 or 3 minidump files to that folder. They are numbered by date.
3 > close the folder and right click on it and select "Compress to (folder name).zip"
4 > use the "manage attachments" in the "advanced" reply window to upload that zip file here as an attachment.

This might point us to a 3rd party driver causing the error, if one exists for it.

Also:

Windows has a built in driver tester that may find something.

Before using it you must ensure that you can start in Safe Mode and return from it. If verifier issues a STOP screen, rebooting in Safe Mode is the only way to reset it.

It its default configuration verifier tests "unsigned" drivers; I'd try that first. But you can take the more advanced "developer" options and have it test all drivers under maximum conditions.

There's less to it than meets the eye in this MS article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;244617

To run verifier simply go to Start > run and enter:

verifier.exe

and select "standard configuration" and follow the prompts.

It will run on the next reboot. If it finds something you will get a Blue Screen STOP message.

Ignore the STOP parameters -- they are specific to verifier. The only thing important is the driver file name if it finds one.

If you get a STOP screen you will have to reboot to Safe Mode and run verifier again and have it "delete existing settings"

After more than 100 PFN_LIST_CORRUPT and one Memory Management BSOD, I get this now: Page Fault In Nonpaged Area

What is the cause of this? Here is my dump file

A:Page Fault In Nonpaged Area

There is only one dump file in your upload and that indicates 0x50 error which points at a memory issue (although could be caused by something else)
BSOD Index
first step would be to run a check on your RAM, i would advise to download and burn memtest and to run in overnight for multiple passes and see what the outcome is
RAM - Test with Memtest86+
