Blank white screen after logging in. (Windows 7)

Q: Blank white screen after logging in. (Windows 7)

Hello Thanks so much for taking the time to read my thread I've run into a bit of trouble with my HP pavillion dm - dx laptop Windows x in the past few days I have a variety of symptoms that lead me to believe I could be infected with something possibly failed ransomware My main issue of concern is that when I log in I get a blank white screen with pointer only following the welcome screen Including this here's a breakdown of some of the problems I've been screen in. white Blank logging 7) (Windows after facing - blank white screen with pointer only after logging in following the welcome screen however if I wait over minutes or so the desktop WILL eventually load and be usable Blank white screen after logging in. (Windows 7) - inconsistency with being able to boot windows normally sometimes it works but sometimes it never makes it to the login screen at all - working for now - inability to boot into safe mode hangs at classpnp sys - note I usually CAN boot into safe mode with command prompt - general slowness especially upon startup - could not reconnect all network drives bubble pops up often As for tests I've run and things I've tried thus far - malwarebytes most notable discoveries were hijack startmenu conduit - hitmanpro just chrome tracking cookies - tdsskiller OK - roguekiller various PUM HJ DESKs found in registry - adwcleaner didn't help - farbar recovery scan tool I've only run it in recovery mode and while I did get the log it caused computer to show windows failed at startup message upon restart - system restore problem still remains - Kaspersky antivirus shows no threats detected - PM - ESET online scan scan only with items detected - feel free to ask for my log if needed - clean boot through msconfig same white screen and still as slow - memory test amp hard-drive test through HP boot menu all OK - system file check OK - chkdsk OK in read-only but never successfully starts when trying to run during startup Other potentially relevant information - I tried to update many of my drivers early on without success and was forced to system restore - I recently performed many Windows updates most of which were successful - I currently use an external monitor and USB keyboard due to my laptop screen being unusable cracked from way back - I run my computer plugged in at all times because my battery doesn't charge anymore - I don't have a Windows CD DVD on hand nor a second usable PC - just a macbook pro which I'm typing on now I apologize for the long and in-depth description but I hope it serves to be informative somehow Following this is my Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Log ran it in recovery mode because I couldn't enter Windows normally at the time for your use ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Scan result of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool FRST txt x Version - Preferred Solution: Blank white screen after logging in. (Windows 7)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Blank white screen after logging in. (Windows 7)

Sorry about my failure to post my DDS logs - had some booting troubles and decided to sleep on it.  Also enabled WIndows Defender firewall as suggested. **3/28/2014 11:16PM (following DDS scan) Used Defogger as suggested. Here are my logs as requested:

A:Windows 7, white screen after logging in.

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Button, select Immediate Notification, and click on Proceed. This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer. NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions.Open notepad. Please copy the contents of the code box below. To do this highlight the contents of the box and right click on it. Paste this into the open notepad. Save it on the flash drive as fixlist.txt

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system On Vista or Windows 7: Now please enter System Recovery Options. Run FRST again like we did before but this time press the Fix button just once and wait. The tool will make a log on the flash drive (Fixlog.txt) please post it to your reply. Also boot the computer into normal mode and let me know how things are looking.Gringo

My girlfriend is having trouble with her laptop. It's running vista 32 service pack 2. The machine boots and loads windows with no problems. But when the log on screen loads the screen is blank. It is on but it shows no image. While booting the screen shows all the usual images and the windows loading bar but goes black after that. It won't boot into safe mode either, it just restarts and reboots normally after you select safe mode.

The last time it was used there was a windows update so I can only assume that some of the changes made have conflicted with the video settings. Any idea on how to get into windows to revert back to an older state?

Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem. I have found an older "Closed Thread" here that supposedly has a fix, but the link is not any good any more. A temporary Fix is to press "Ctrl, Alt, and Del" keys at the same time. Select Start Task Manager, On the Process tab, end any and all "explorer.exe". Then select "File" (at the top of the window), select New Process, and type explorer.exe. This should get you back up and running, at6 least untill you restart your computer.

So if any one knows where to find the "Fix File", I know I would definatly appreciate it!

Whenever a particular user logs in, to Windows, she gets a blank screen instead of the desktop screen. I have to open Task Manager and run "Explorer" as a new task before she can see the windows desktop screen. We have a Windows Server 2003 domain controller.

Hi all,

Probably a stupid question. I have a PC running Windows 2000 Pro. Yesterday at startup it goes as far as the login screen. I can log in OK, but then all I get is a blank white screen with nothing but a mouse. I'm not a cat, so this is no good to me.

I can get to the usual Task Manager by Ctrl+Alt+Del; I see no applications open, plenty of processes running.

I know slightly less than nothing about computers, but I recall seeing explorer.exe running all the time. Is this what's missing?

I am a new member. Here is my first XP issue. I have been running XP Pro now for a year with no issues. This week I decide to purchase and install a new hot game Half-Life 2. I seemed to have no problems installing the game (all 5 CDs worth). I shut down my PC. The next day when I turned my PC on I got about 30 seconds of blank screen followed by a white progress bar accross the lower portion of my screen.

My PC is a Dell Inspiron 5150. It takes about 120 seconds before the
progress bar moves across from left to right then windows starts OK.

I decided to reinstall windows XP pro yesterday as an update. This done
I rebooted but the problem is still there.

Prior to this problem, my PC booted completely in about 15 or 20 seconds.

A:Windows XP Pro slow boot with blank screen and white progress bar

have you tried booting in safemode hit F8 while booting
then have a look see if there are any yellow triangels in device manager
maybe de-install the game

see what happens

have you searched the game forum - sometimes theres some q&A on that site with game problems

Hello all.

After a bunch of Windows updates last night we are no able to log in a significant amount of computers, this also happens in safe mode where upon pressing control alt delete for login it turns to a blank screen with just a mouse cursor.

Reading up on google, someone said it was a DCOM setting in Group policy, but they didn't say exactly what.

It seems to have happened to a number of other schools in the area as well. Likely to be a Windows Update issue. Any ideas?

Cheers!

Dell Inspiron 1440
Windows 7
Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4300 @ 2.10GHz
4 GB RAM
64-bit

Upon a reboot last night, I got a blank white screen. Could still hear Windows 7 starting up, so I entered my password and it went to windows. CTR+ALT+DEL x 2 to turn off. Tried turning on again with same results and held power button to force turn off. Plugged it into an external monitor, which shows my OS working as normal, but laptop screen is still blank white (though I can still change brightness/dimness). Writing this post off of the same computer, just an external screen.

Dell support says my LCD has tanked (purchased 1/1/10). Problem is that I'm not working in Bolivia (South America) so shipping to a repair center in the U.S. is not an option.

Thanks,
Adam

A:blank IE screen after logging in

It is a little hard to understand what you mean. Attaching a snipping tool picture might help.

My first guess it you have a virus. I had one that messed up by login and it had replaced a windows file with an xxx86.exe version. I think it was winlogon.exe, but can't remember exactly.

Check the registry for winlogon.exe and winlogon86.exe to see if you can find one. These file names may not be exact, but close.

Hi @HELIDR, I hope you find your Support Forum experience a positive one!  It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that your computer is not starting properly. I am happy to help with this. Please post the full product number for your computer. See the following, if you need help with that information. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?  Also please post the product number for the 32" display. Did you try a different HDMI cable, or a different connection type?Have you tested your display connected to a different computer or device, and if so did it function properly? For now give this a try: HP Desktop PCs - Computer Does Not Start (Windows 10,8). It may fix the issue or point to a likely cause. Please let me know whether that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

Yes, you've got a few malware entries in there (a CoolWebSearch hijack, and a couple of trojans), though it's not going to be easy to remedy without seeing the complete HJT log. Can you possibly copy the log to floppy and then post it from the other computer?

What's the Windows OS?
eg. Is it Windows 2000 sp4? Or is it WinXP Pro sp2?

What version of HijackThis is it? v1.99.1 is the latest version.
Is HijackThis.exe running from a permanent folder, and not from within a zip file in a Temp folder?
This is important. Make sure HijackThis.exe is installed in eg.
C:\Program Files\HijackThis
Re: your questions at the end of your post:
Don't worry about WINNT / winnt and System32 / system32
They are both exactly the same (whether smallcase or uppercase or a mixture).
svchost.exe is legitimate and is an integral part of Windows NT/2k/XP (Services Host).
It is normal to have multiple instances of it running.

Anyway, try this for now...
If possible, please download the following apps and transfer them to the infected pc.
CWShredder (free standalone version)
http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html
http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWShredder.exe
AboutBuster
http://www.besttechie.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=1488 (tutorial)
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/AboutBuster.zip

You will need to unzip AboutBuster.zip to a folder on the good pc,
then open AboutBuster.exe
click the Update button
download the updates
then copy the entire AboutBuster folder over to the infected pc.
Download the attached cleanup.zip file.
The zip contains a .bat and a .reg file.
Unzip them and copy the .bat and .reg file over to the infected pc.
Make a copy of them on the desktop and in My Documents.
You could also run them both directly from a floppy.
However, don't run either just yet.
I will tell you what they do and when to use them later in the instructions below.

I have a Dell flatscreen; I am not sure of a model number for the screen, but it might be: BN68-00170Q-00

I noticed that the screen had light flickers, and this has been this way for quite a while. Just today, the screen appeared completely white. I have a dual-screen set up. the other screen, the same model, has a menu when unplugged from the computer. When this (broken) screen is unplugged from the computer, the screen still displays white.

My question is: What is wrong with this screen? Can I repair this screen, and if so, what will it take?

Thank You,

A:Blank white screen

Hi edifiz,

You've got something really nasty on this machine. I'll need to gather more information before providing removal instructions.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from here Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit and save it to your desktop.

Be sure to print out and follow the instructions provided on that same page.

Caution: This is a beta version so please be sure to read the disclaimer and back up any important data before using.
Double click the mbar.zip file to open it, then 'Extract all files'.
Double click the mbar folder to open it, then double click mbar.exe to start the tool.
Check for Updates, then Scan your system for malware

If malware is found, do NOT press the Cleanup button yet. Click EXIT.

I'd like to see the log first so I can see what it sees. You'll find the log in that mbar folder as MBAR-log-<date and time>***.txt . Please attach that to your next reply.

=======================

Next, download TDSSKiller.exe and save it to your desktopExecute TDSSKiller.exe by doubleclicking on it.
Press Start Scan
If Malicious objects are found, do NOT select Cure. Change the action to Skip, and save the log.
Once complete, a log will be produced at the root drive which is typically C:\ ,for example, C:\TDSSKiller.<version_date_time>log.txt

Please post the contents of that log in your next reply.

I am running Vista Home Premium SP1. Several times a day, for no reason, the screen goes completely white with exception to the task bar. When this happens, the Internet icon appears on the task bar. The only way I know how to cancel this is to click on the icon, then Close OR press Alt+F4 to close the current screen. This is very annoying as it happens regularly. It also happens sometimes after bootup and everything has settled down. Without touching the keyboard or mouse the screen will go white.

But, if I log into another user account, I could see the desktop just fine. PLEASE HELP! I already tried opening task manager -> run new task -> open windows.exe and still no results. Thanks!

Hi. I have spend days on the internet looking for help and cannot get my problem solved. When I turn on my computer it boots up and lets me login. Then when my desktop starts to load the screen just goes blank and there is no cursor either. I tried to go into safe mode and after I login there it logs off and reboots into normal mode. I can login to safe mode with command prompt but nothing I have tried has worked. Could someone please help me. I am so frustrated and I need my computer for my sons schooling. Thank you in advance for any help. It is very much appreciated!

A:After logging in desktop appears for a second and screen goes blank

What have you tried already? How long has this been happening? If a recent thing, have you tried a system restore (from safe mode)? You could try running a sfc/scannow to find and hopefully repair any corrupted system files too. Heres a link to a tutorial on how to do that if you haven't before : SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

A:Solved: Just got a blank white screen !

Well thanks folks - another nil response, not the first time either. My problems must be a bit naff so I will not be posting here again.
In the off chance that anyone is remotely interested, my blank white screen problem has healed itself. After a day's worth of switching on and switching off again, I suddenly got a message that a program was failing to respond and did I want to close it now? It was a Real Player update, never requested or agreed to, that was not responding and when I closed it, bingo, I had control of my machine again and it proceeded to give me my desktop and everything.
Just so as you know. I won't trouble you again. Adios.

Hi I have a problem I m guessing with one of my video drivers and have no Screen -> Blank White Desktop idea what to do When I start up my computer everything works fine I can login fine but after minutes of being logged in my computer screen with turn entirely white mouse visible with the little loading circle and then if I click or hit any buttons during the white screen it will return to my desktop with no windows open no icons no task bar just my wallpaper I can CTRL ALT DEL but when I hit Run Task Manager it goes back to the blank wallpaper with nothing there I suspect task manager is running but the screen won t display it so I can White Screen -> Blank Desktop t interact with it I suspect this because I can ctrl alt del then hit Log Out and for a brief moment my desktop will go back to normal but then the logout process continues and I am logged out First I tried running it in Safe Mode which works except the same thing happens Only instead of a white screen the computer just restarts on its own So then I went to the Advanced Boot Options screen and disabled Automatic Restart on Crash For some reason though that had no effect on anything So I tried working in the lt minutes I have before the computer goes blank and managed to disable all processes amp services except for microsoft ones and disabled startup processes This seemed to have made the startup faster giving me a bit more time to work before it goes blank but didn t solve the problem Then suddenly today I get on and attempt to backup some files onto an external HD small things like browser bookmarks contacts etc in case I need to do a factory reset I logged out and logged back in to do some more and it hasn t crashed since then I have logged out and logged back in many times before and it would always crash I am afraid that if I restart my computer the problem will happen again I have no idea why it decided to stop today I am using this time to backup larger files amp folders just in case and to post this message here Any help is greatly appreciated as this seems like something easy to fix like reinstalling a certain video driver or something but I am no computer whiz and don t really know what to do next Also I don t have the Vista install CD so I can t do the repair option I ve seen suggested to people with similar problems nbsp

A:White Screen -> Blank Desktop

I have the same problem. I don't have a spare monitor to see if it is the monitor. The computer seems to be running fine, but I am concerned that is may have something to do with the power management settings. Seems to happen when I leave it for a bit, but then it happened when I turned the monitor off & also when I rebooted the PC. Sometimes it eventually comes on, when I hit alt>shift, the ctrl>alt>delete, then I can finally bring up the task manager which brings my screen back. I have Vista 32bit, and an LG monitor. I noticed no one replied to you. Have you been able to solve it?

I am running windows XP,mostly use google chrome.I run ESSET,Malwarebytes and CC cleaner often........My problem is when viewing multiple windows,1or many, when going back to any of the windows I was not viewing the screen is white except for the addres bar.It will take up to a minute for the sites screen to reapear and if I try to reload the page it will eventually but it is better if I close the window and start from scratch.I constantly get the error message that my shockwave app has crashed and to reload but I am not even sure if I have shockwave as if I try to reload it nothing happens...If you need further info just ask...

A:White blank screen while viewing

A quick-fix might be to simply reinstall Shockwave.

Login as the Administrator and then download and install Shockwave from Adobe at the URL below. If you do not want the Google Toolbar then remember to untick the GT box before installing.

Shockwave should be updated at least once a month.

I have Windows Vista on my laptop and lately it has been doing a very strange thing. All of a sudden my screen goes completely white, and the only way to get rid of it is to hit the "show desktop" button on my keyboard, then right click the button that has appeared on my taskbar that says "Internet Explorer blank page", and click "close" from the menu. Why is it doing this? Can anybody help me?

A:White Screen/blank Page

Normally, I'd suggest re-installing your video drivers to work around this problem - but the blank Internet Explorer page causes some concern.Have you scanned your system with an independent scanner to see if this is malware related? Here's some good, independent, free scans:(Be advised that some of these scanners will pickup things in "quarantine" from other anti-virus programs - so review the results carefully)http://housecall.trendmicro.comhttp://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner Scan Only - no removalhttp://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.htmlhttp://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtmlhttp://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asphttp://onlinescan.avast.com/http://ca.com/us/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspxhttp://www.eset.com/onlinescan/<links compiled on 02/14/2008>

Whenever I leave the computer idle for a short period of time the screen goes blank/white. The only way to get control again is to reboot/rsestart. This feature used to work by screen going blank until I touched a key where it would come back to what was on screen before. I think I must have selected something in the settings incorrectly. I am using Windows 7 and either Google Chrome, Internet Explored or Firefox. This is an HP Pavilion lap top computer.

When I go to this forum, a blank white screen appears. It started happening just today and is just with this one site. I can acess the log in page ONLY IF I click 'Cache' at the bottom of google. But when I type in my password and username, the same blank white screen comes up.

I'll also add that yesterday, and earlier this morning, this specifica website began running pretty slow for me. And now, I can't get to it at all because of the blank screen.

I made a screencap. Does anyone know what it could be?

When using my dell laptop, the screen will get quick tiny color lines and then go white blank and the only way to get it back up is to close my computer and wait about 2 minutes and sometimes I have to do this several times. This usually only happens if my computer is not plugged but also happens when it is just not as often. Any suggestions you have would be awesome! Thanks!

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please post the contents of log.txt. Thank you for your patience. Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem. If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped. Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. I am always leery of opening attachments so I always request that HijackThis logs are to be posted as a reply to the thread. I do not think that you are attaching anything scary but others may do so. While we are working on your HijackThis log, please: Reply to this thread; do not start another! Do not make any changes on your computer during the cleaning process or download/add programs on your computer unless instructed to do so. Do not run any other tool until instructed to do so! Let me know if any of the links do not work or if any of the tools do not work. Tell me about problems or symptoms that occur during the fix. Do not run any other programs or open any other windows while doing a fix. Ask any questions that you have regarding the fix(es), the infection(s), the performance of your computer, etc.Thanks.

I saw this issue in the forum. And I'm having the same problem as the original poster. If anyone has a solution, I'd certainly appreciate the guidance. This laptop (Compaq CQ-60) is about 6 months old. Because it was so cheap, I didn't bother buying the warranty. It got dropped, so naturally we had to replace the LCD screen. It worked perfectly after that for about 2 weeks. Now when you turn it on, it's just a solid white, blank screen. If we connect an external monitor, we can use it. But otherwise, we're kinda screwed. Using my troubleshooting skills here, if it has a display (externally) then the motherboard and video card would apparently be functioning as expected. One other thing, I can adjust the brightness using the function key and the corresponding f key. Did this new LCD screen just go bad?

Help.

Thanks,

Randy.

When I start my laptop it goes straight to a blank white screen. I can hear the fan running and the lights are flicking on and it sounds like it wants to start but the screen remains blank. I tried taking the battery out and starting the computer with only the AC adaptor I even took out the memory and realigned it but nothing seems to work. What's wrong with my laptop?

I did a system scan with Spybot Search and Destroy along with Hijackthis. The computer was working just fine until start up. When everything loads a white blank screen randomly pops up and disappears. The computer is running just fine but it's bugging me what the white screen is cause it never happened before. I restarted the computer a few times to see if I can crash the white screen which I did. It gave me a CPAX20 error. I did some research on it and it says that I must of downloaded an adware which I don't think can be possible because I've been dealing with virus, maware, and adware for years and I can't find anything I've recently downloaded that would have any viruses because I download programs from a friend that's very reliable.

Anyone have any idea on what this is?

Have you done a spyware scan or virus scan? Usually we call them the blue death meaning it will crash. Do you have ur back up cds to reformant? When you only reformant is to correct what ever the problems is unless you are going to smoke out the hard drive an start from scratch an reload everything. Hopes this help!

What windows are you using you didn say what you were running.

after logging on to my name the screen just stays blank this is what happened right before i turned it on.

i have a hp pavillion desktop running on windows vista home premium. okay what happened was i went to the switch users area and left when i came back i couldn't do anything i tried to sign on but nothing happened there was a bar that said switch users when i clicked it nothing happened so i tried to sign on my name again and it said something like this " There is device attached to your computer that isn't working". so i decided to restart my computer when i did this a black screen came up and said something like this " removing security something # from id" than " replacing security# with #" than it restarted and i signed on but a white screen came up and stays white

Hello All

Guess I should apologise if this is considered the wrong place to make this post. Recently when I click to open a thread I have a large blank white area that covers a whole screen, down to the bottom of the first advertisement. Is this due to changes on the forum or is it just me?

I have a HP netbook running Windows 7 Starter edition that I only had for about 2 months anyways this morning I started it up and got the HP logo screen briefly and then a black screen with a white cursor in the top left hand corner. I can get to the BIOS menu and I have tried restoring to default but that didn't do anything. I then unplugged ac adapter and battery and help power button down for a min. and then put battery and ac adapter back in and started it. No fix. Do you have any other solutions. Please help my wife needs this for school tomorrow. Thanks.

A:starting up to blank screen with white cursor

Black screen with a white cursor in the upper left hand corner, usually means that it is not finding the OS to start. This could be because the Hard drive has gone bad, or the OS has been corrupted. Does the HP Netbook have a Factory Restore Option left?

PLS help - when I try to start up my computer (hp - with vista), it goes straight to a black screen with a white arrow curser (which I can move around). The screen saver will come on after a few minutes, but when I touch a key, I get back to the same blank screen. Alt-Ctrl-Del does nothing. I have tried rebooting in safe mode, and I still end up with the blank screen. I do not have have the Windows CD (pre-installed when I bought it), and my CD drive is not working anyways (been broken for a few weeks).
Any suggestions would be most helpful!!!
Thanks.

Hi Guys, I have Pavlion DM1-4020sa, when I switch it on, a permanent blank-white screen appears. Test Done: 1- The laptop works OK (boots to BIOS) on an external monitor.2- The LCD itself works OK also on a nother notebook.3- Hard reset: Done with no hope From the tests above, should I exclud any motherboard and/or graphics problem but it could be just the cable from the mother board to the screen? Unfortunately, I cannot check the cable as I don't have another notebook that comes with the same cable. How to send this for repair to HP? Many thanks

Not sure where to put this, Moderator please select correct place.
I was getting a blank white screen on some web sites - inlcuding know safe sites, and finally discovered what it was.
Kaspersky Anti-Banner was set to ON.
Kaspersky will block some sites with "selective scripting" for advertising, when anti-banner turned off works fine.
With all of the comments on the internet this solution may apply to many many people sinc ethere are no real solutions posted.
I would suggest possibly trying to turn off your anti-banner control and see it it helps ou as well.

A:Blank White Screen after System Restore

Before I mark this as solved let me ask another question after much poking around and google searched, we found out that it was syncuw.EXE that was causing the white screen. We think by our searches that it was tied to the Norton software that came bundled with the computer. We removed the Norton and the white box went away and so far so good. Does that make sense? has anyone else had this same problem?

Hi all:

Recently my HP pavillion zv6000 will not load up properly. When I press the power button, it will load past the HP Invent logo and then just shows a white-blank screen and nothing else. I connected it to an external monitor and it still shows the white-blank screen on the external monitor. I did an HDD test in the BIOS and the hard disk passed the test. I un-seated the ram and re-seat it but still I get white-blank screen.

Safe mode cannot load properly. When I select safe mode it starts to load safe mode but stops at the begining of the white loading bars at the bottom of the screen. Please help out some one

The problem is:

-Computer boots up
-Shows green Windows loading bar
-Goes to black screen, and all I can see is the mouse cursor.

I can not ctrl+alt+dlt, and when I try "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" or any kind of safe mode, it will not work, and goes to the same black screen. Also the task manager is NOT available (normal & safe mode)
I have tried the "Last Known Good Configuration", but this has not worked either.

The machine is sealed using sysprep and deployed using Novell ZCM Imaging.
It comes up the first time, then it renames the computer using ziswin and then it is stuck in the black screen/white mouse cursor mode

Anyone?? I'm desperate....

A:Blank screen, White cursor after sysprep

Is this an enterprise computer? You should consult your IT dept.

If not then explain what you've done as these are not consumer methods. How is it sealed?

To check that the boot configuration is correct, confirm that WIn7 or it's 100mb System Reserved boot partition is marked Active, then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times to repair or rewrite the System boot files to the Active partition. Partition - Mark as Active (Method Two)

Hi all,
My Acer Aspire 7000 laptop running windows xp started showing a blank greyish/white screen recently. When I press the power button, the screen shows the Acer splash screen and then shows the blank greyish/white screen where it stays. It does not get to windows screen at all. I went into the BIOS to check and the settings are okay.
I connected the laptop to an external monitor and it showed the same things. First, the Acer splash screen and then blank screen. I checked the video cables connectors to make sure they were connected and still white screen. I tried to get into safe mode but I could not because it could load only up to "windows\system 32\drivers\isa pnp.sys". Please someone help me solve this problem.

My desktop has a blue background that cannot be changed. When I click on the volume control icon on the taskbar I get the following popup: "Volume Control has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The audio works regardless but the level cannot be adjusted.

These problems are minor but I thought they might be resolved by restoring the system to an earlier date. So I launched System Restore but it appears as a blank white screen. I was thinking that maybe I should try a new desktop now but I'm not sure if this will correct the problem or is the easiest solution. Please help!

A:Screen going blank, little white - black/square dots..

could also be ram related, a dodgy stick can cause image issues.
I found that out after being 100% sure my card was duff got it RMA'd and the new one had the same issue... derp!

try the latest beta driver from AMD see if that helps. Lots of people seem to be having driver issues with the new r7 and r9 cards.

I'm brand new here, so I hope I can find an answer...I have a Vista Home Premium machine that was recently upgraded from XP Home, and when opening IE, a blank, white window opens in full screen, and the only way to close it is either open Task Manager, or Alt + F4...once it's closed, it seems to behave normally, but ...?
When the computer used XP as it's OS, opening any IE window caused a second, blank IE window to open and attempt to load - what it was loading I don't know, but when that window was closed, the intended destination could load...anyone seen/heard that one before?...any thoughts? Thanks so much for the chance to find out!

A:DELL INSPIRON 1564 , Screen goes white blank

I bought Inspiron 1564 around 6 months ago. The problem which I am having for the last 3-4 months is that the screen goes completely white when the laptop is powered ON or when watching videos on youtube, media player or switching screens too fast (b/w full screen and normal mode in a movie) or when Windows 7 asks for permission to execute any installation prog.
Firstly I thought it is a Windows related issue. I searched a lot of forums but no success. Updated Video Drivers from Intel, Dell to the latest time to time, but no result.
Couple of days ago, I realized that the screen goes white in the Setup menu (F2) as well, showing that it is hardware related. Occasionally, some lines appear on screen during Windows boot (like in case of VHS when video tape is too old).
I got some hope after reading above post. Can anyone help ? Specs are as under

I had him enable ONLY the Microsoft services in the services tab- all other services and startup items disabled The white screen came back So in short With everything disabled from startup Diagnostic startup from MSConfig it works fine without internet etc But with only the Microsoft services running- no other services no startup items- it displays a blank Blank White screen - Related to vista service? white screen after logging in Any possible ideas which service might be causing it or any way to find out I can find no information and there are simply too many services to sit there and try them each one at a time

I have an Hp pavilion a1226n desktop computer and shut off the power this morning during a bad storm. I used the regular procedures and shut it down correctly, but when i tried to boot it up earlier this morning, the only thing that comes up is a blank black screen with a flashing white dash in the upper left hand corner. I have already tried to remove reset the BIOS by removing the battery and then later restarting, but it did not help at all. Also, it wont even boot far enough for me to start in safe/real mode. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the help

A:[SOLVED] Boot problem- blank screen flashing white dash

Hi sherm12789 and welcome to TSF

Start up your computer by either tapping the F1, F2, F4, F6, F8, F10, F11, F12, or Delete keys to access the systems BIOS. For the exact information on what key to start up the System BIOS refer back to Original Manufacturer System Documentation.

After getting into the BIOS, look for a page that would have something like, eg. PC Health Screen or System Monitoring Page. When you have found a page similar to this post back what the BIOS says for your temperatures, voltages, and fan speeds.

Customer reports "FBI virus".  I can't even get that far.  Regular boot goes to startup repair and reports that it can't automatically fix.  Safe mode boot looks like it will boot, but then the computer reboots itself as if to regular mode and then locks up to a blank white screen.  This is the second one I have seen this month like this.  What is it, and how to fix?

I am using GP user preferences to create shortcuts on my users' desktops. On all my Vista/Win7 machines they are fine and the icons are what I set them to be. on all my Win8 machines the icon is just a blank white square. If I right-click and view the icon,
the correct image appears. But when the user is looking at the desktop the image is blank.

I have upgraded a couple machines, scratch built one, and purchased an OEM version on a new laptop. All are the same: blank shortcut icons.

Surely I'm not the only person testing Win8 in a domain environment, right?

Hi, the Internet Explorer icon just dissappeared from the windows bar on the bottom of the screen. Instead, a white blank icon replaced it. How can I get the normal icon back? Thanks for your feedback.

A:windows internet explorer icon dissappeared, replaced by white blank

Hello bakelite, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If the IE shortcut still works, then you might see if rebuilding the icon cache may help.

If not on both, then you could see if unpinning the icon, then pinning the iexplore.exe file below to your taskbar to recreate it may show better.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

Hope this helps for now,
Shawn

Using Windows XP here, and this is happening more and more frequently: I click on a web link, or "Next" on a message board or website, and get a blank white screen with "Done" at the bottom left. Sometimes it seems a bit more promising, as along with the blank white screen there's the blue bar creeping (or seeming to stop) along the slot at the bottom left beside the words "Web site found. Waiting for ...". If I wait it out it'll take three or four minutes before the site comes up, but many times the screen stays blank and the word "Done" appears again. I can start over and usually get what I want, but this is annoying. Please, might there be a reason for this happening that could be fixed?
