Preferred Solution: My email address is being used to spam others, but not my contacts

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I live in a condo complex where I m surrounded by wi-fi address MAC Need solving help mystery a connections I have a very rare neurological condition which causes me to have seizures if I am exposed to certain wireless devices It has nothing to do with the GHz so we think it s related to some other variable like modulation harmonics etc I don t have an expensive spectrum analyzer so I can t measure the variables but it has only happened when I was exposed to hotspots not Need help solving a MAC address mystery regular wi-fi modems A few weeks ago a neighbor s computer started showing a very strong signal related to an ad hoc network and I have had some pretty bad episodes it s kind of like epilepsy - some people have seizures from flashing lights I have them from certain radio transmission I mentioned the situation and he said he had no idea what I was talking about I gave him a printout showing how to turn off an ad hoc network and that night the signal disappeared and I finally got some sleep but then it showed back up the next day again I need to make my case so that he will make more of an effort to stop the auto setup that s apparently occurring and hoped some of you might be able to help I m attaching a screen shot taken with Acrylic WiFi The SSDI says SETUP and as you can see the signal is significantly stronger than anything else around me The MAC address Need help solving a MAC address mystery says unknown when I do vendor searches It s changed at least twice Those specs were typical of older MacBooks with b band Do any of you know of other devices that might have those same specs And is there anyway to permanently disable the setup so it doesn t automatically launch He claims he doesn t have an ad hoc network and apparently doesn t realize what s happening I had just renewed my lease so moving isn t an option And I can t tear up the carpet to put down shielding so that s not an option either I just need more information so that when I discuss this with him again I can have the details I need to convince him he can do something about it Thanks - nbsp

So this is my first time making a forum post since 169.xx ip address working, Ethernet not I am not desperate because nothing I ve tried has worked So two weeks ago I had an electrical surge in my house on my desktop the ethernet port on the motherboard died so I sent Ethernet not working, 169.xx ip address back my motherboard to have that fixed Now that I have it back I tried getting my ethernet to work though now the Ethernet not working, 169.xx ip address connection properly works as in Ethernet not working, 169.xx ip address the local area connection is now at least recognized I still have no internet access I just tried reinstalling Windows bit fresh install after I wiped everything My ethernet adapter is called Realtek PCIe GBI Family controller I have a E Linksys router and a Comcast modem I tried plugging the ethernet cable into each other but no luck Currently I m attempting to at least make the desktop use the modem internet directly I seem to be sending packets but not receiving them when I looked in the Status of the Local Area Connection in network connection details I have an autoconfiguration ipv of xxx xxx ipv subnet mask and nothing in the ipv default gateway dns server or wins server and no ipv default gateway I ve tried many things too many to name now but I am willing to try anything you guys mention and post the appropriate data or logs just tell me what it is you would like to see Any help would be highly appreciated nbsp

A:Ethernet not working, 169.xx ip address

Anytime you see 169.x.y.z, that's the clue that your DHCP request to the router did not get an answer.

DHCP should return an IP address directly related to your router's address and two DNS addresses.

search the form for DHCP - - I've posted a solution here on TS.

tyme says: Purchased a new Gigabyte MB from a reseller , box had serial info label cut off? anyways opened CPU cover to install CPU ...and right lower side had some contact points bent...damaged notified reseller and he said impossible to happen with cover installed.Never installed CPU , tried to straighten damaged contact points for what it was worth , seems it made it , worse! or my imagination. My question is , he didn't damage , I didn't damage.then???? Has anyone ever had damaged contact points? P.S It wasn't a real expensive MB but it hasn't made my day.....I do not think...NEW Warranty covers damage as such...perhaps I'll have to except the Loss?? P.S > I'm not new to computer building ...shorted ports...broken components etc. but this is a 1st. of this nature.

A:Damaged 1150 CPU contacts

All I can say is anything is possible. We can speculate the whole week, on what might have been the reason for the bent pins.

I don't know if this is an issue or if it's normal. My brother and I play mmorgs together and share an internet connection. We recently upgraded to a faster modem with router built in and when we signed into the game, we got a messaged stating we were signing in from a different IP address. It showed the old address and the new address, but it wasn't our actual IP address, it was the DNS address of our Internet service provider. And the address was the same for both of our computers. Wouldn't this cause some problems if we're playing under the same address. I find I get d/c'd from the game if I just stand around and do nothing. I get a message "Global Allocation Error". I 've researched this and still can't find anything about it that makes any sense to me. Was wondering if it was because of the IP address being the ISP's DNS address?

A:IP address is DNS address

That's probably just your inside and outside IP address. Your home gets an 'outside' IP address which will be the same for every device connected. Inside your home, every device will get an 'inside' address like 192.168.0.5 and 192.168.0.6.

Hi all

Not sure if I'm posting this in the correct place, so please move if need be.

I have a VPN for connecting to my work server, but we've recently changed our ISP and with it our static IP address. I need to connect to copy some files over today but don't know what the new IP address is. Is there any way I can find this out remotely, or would I have to be on that network to find it?

Thanks in advance

A:Static IP Address Changed

My guess is if you don't know the IP or Domain Name, you would need to be on that network. If you know either of the two, you could cross reference them.

Ive spoken to verizon, we were nice enough to allow me to get a new device after we spent an hour troubleshooting and still the same problem. Im connected for about 8 minutes then i disconnect and get the pop up with the error. I have been told that i have a windows 7 issue. Im not sure where to look or what do to? any help would be great, thanks in advance

ive tried resetting the IP address, reinstalled software. idk what else to do!

A:Windows has detected an IP address conflict

Where did you reset the IP address? I mean in which device did you reset the IP address?

I have wireless connection on my laptop and also have a desktop computer in same internet connection. When I check my systems IP address from http://whoisthisip.com this site, it shows the same IP address for both laptop & desktop. why?

A:Same IP Address Why?

Because it is reporting the ip-address give your router by the ISP. The whole point for have a router is to create a LAN where each computer/device has a unique ip address that is then mapped on the public WAN address - - this is the NAT feature

You should be able to see which computers are connected to your network from your routers home page... usually 192.168.2.1

There must be!! I go to "start" , Run....."command"
Type in "IPCONFIG/ALL
Brighthouse tells me, you have to wait 24 hrs until "lease expires".
Anyone know of a way to change IP on the fly??

So we have a server at one of the places I work that is a domain controller and DNS server website domain server controller pointing DNS to of instead address as well as an smtp server The domain is named companyname com The website is you guessed it companyname com Now why they set this up like this I don t know but because they have every now DNS server pointing to domain controller instead of website address and then the DNS server decides to point companyname com to the domain controller and ignore the fact that I have a www Host A record pointing to the web server s external IP address and a record saying DNS server pointing to domain controller instead of website address that DNS server pointing to domain controller instead of website address companyname com should also point to the web server s address The problem seems to stem from that when the server reboots for updates it of course forces the DNS server records to update and it puts an entry in there that contradicts my static records with the domain controller s local address in for companyname com Can I force it NOT to put a certain entry in there or rather not update a certain entry that it has in there Or can I force it to treat my static records as primary I m fairly new to this as I ve not dealt with this issue before and I m out of ideas nbsp

A:DNS server pointing to domain controller instead of website address

Hmm; for the External DNS accessible to the web

create a CNAME for www.company.name
create another for dns.company.name.
each pointing to unique IP addresses
this dns ONLY supports publicly available services; NOTHING internal

the Domain Controller should have a SEPARATE DNS, internal to the LAN, not accessible to the Web.
Internal users configured to -> internal DNS which performs recursive lookup to your ISP's DNS.

A:Can't access email from email button

Does the laptop come w/ a program to customize keyboard settings? Maybe that a look at that. My Logitech keyboard came w/ a program called Setpoint which allows me to choose what email program to open when the button is pressed. I had an eMachine keyboard w/ an email button that opens up the default email program. So that's something else to check. Maybe the computer forgot what the default email program is.

Can someone tell if there is a way to hide my computers IP Address?
Maxthon is the browser I use, I love it, but I do a lot of business on my home computer and I am afraid of being spied on.
I heard that there are people that can trace it and know everything you are doing, including online banking and private emails and such.
Thank you.

A:Hide IP Address?

Firstly, there's no foolproof way of making yourself "invisible" online. While Tor can give upto 90% masking, it's often slow and still not safe enough. But there are a few things you can do:
1) Follow the EFF's top 12 ways.
2) Refer to the Surveillance Self-Defense manual for complete satisfaction.
3) For computer specific solutions, look here.

p.s. hu ray i get to write in bad grammer for a change who learned you how to spoke?

A:How do I find out my ISP's IP address?

Your ISP will have multiple IP addresses.

If what your asking is how do you find out YOUR IP address: http://whatismyipaddress.com/

If you want to know the IP address of a particular site, fire up cmd.exe in Windows (start run/search box, type cmd and hit enter.

Then type: ping bbc.co.uk (or whatever website you need to know).

e.g.
Code:
C:\Users\Lee>ping bbc.co.uk

Pinging bbc.co.uk [212.58.241.131] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 212.58.241.131: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=244
Reply from 212.58.241.131: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=244
Reply from 212.58.241.131: bytes=32 time=14ms TTL=244
Reply from 212.58.241.131: bytes=32 time=35ms TTL=244

Ping statistics for 212.58.241.131:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 14ms, Maximum = 35ms, Average = 20ms

C:\Users\Lee>
That will reveal their IP address for you.

A:Brother Printer does not have an IP address

One more thing I tried

I just went into the Printer control menu on my computer and went to "Properties" as the Administrator. Under the heading Port. I picked a port that was not being used. It is called a "Standard TCP/IP Port" and it's IP is 192.168.1.17
I thought this would be ok because another Brother printer I don't have trouble connecting to is using one of the other similar ports.

So then I changed the IP address of my Brother printer to this.. Still isn't working but now when I go back to that spot, my printer's model number is showing up and I feel like I might be getting somewhere, just need a little more info.

A:IP address conflict found

this kind of error is frequently caused by malconfiguration of a static IP address.

First start by making ALL systems attached to your router use DHCP. This will ensure
that the conflict can not occur

Now IF you need a static address, then use the Address Reservation feature in the router;
You need the MAC address of the system to have a static IP address,
to restrict the DHCP range to a small set of numbers, say 2-20, and
the Reserver systemX to an IP address like x.30 (ie above the DHCP range).

If you have not already tried, just set a static IP address. That should possibly get it to work for a temp fix. as dhcp ONLY serves to autoconf the client and you've setup static settings, actually you are DONE. The caveat of course is that you would like (I hope) to have one point of control from the DC side. Let's see ...

Using DHCP issued from a 2wire ADSL router
Default DHCP configuration
IP Address Range 10.0.0.1 -> 10.0.0.99
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 10.0.0.138 << atypical here but valid; normally the router is the gateway
.....................................................and it would be at 10.0.0.1 and the dhcp range 2-100

However this computer has been issued with
IP Address 120.151.90.99
Subnet 255.255.255.248
Default Gateway 120.151.90.98
DHCP Server 10.0.0.138
DNS Server 10.0.0.138Click to expand...

one would hope the DNS would be on your DC or a public ISP; sure bizarre.
(there's a remote chance of something else, but let's defer that discussion for now)

Normally, the client BROADCASTS on x.x.x.255 port 68 and gets back
the DHCP address and proceeds from there.

=== that leads to this issue Node Type = = =

get Regedit
go to the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters
set DhcpNodeType = 1 (if not found create a REG_DWORD and get the spelling and case as shown)
set NodeType = 8 (same comment " " )

Looks like the client has junk in the static config.
Use View Network Connections (on the ailing system) right-click Local Lan->Properties
scroll to Tcp/IP, click properties
On the General Tab, click both Obtain xxx Automatically and ensure everything else is empty.
Click the Advance button at the bottom
* IP settings tab: shows DHCP Enabled; default gateway is empty [x] auto metric
* DNS tab: everything empty and [x] Append primary & connection specific DNS suffixes
* WINS tab: at the bottom; NetBios setting [x] Default
.... you decide the WINS and Enable LMHOSTS lookup for your DC
* Options tab: shows TCP/IP filtering; click properties button
.... [x] all three Permit All

Click OK three times to get back to the top, click close

get a command prompt (start->run->cmd (using admin of course)
enter

ipconfig /flushdns
net stop "dns client"
net start "dns client"
(yes, keep the quotes)

disconnect this system from the lan and wait 30 seconds and then reconnect
wait another 30 seconds and rerun /ipconfig /all

the Node Type should show up as Hybrid

Internet still works but network drive access doesn't.Click to expand...

because it is on the WRONG subnet

All computers are plugged into a NetGear 16 port network switch with 1 cable going to the 2Wire ADSL router.

Hello to start with here is a list.

Router 1 (wired from modem) : IP 192.168.1.1
Router 2 (wireless): IP 192.168.2.1

I am trying to get these two routers to see each other while keeping the IP Addresses, Router 1 is the main router, which I want to keep at 192.168.1.1 Router 2 is a wireless one which I also wanted to keep at 192.168.2.1

How do I get computers on the 192.168.2.1 to see the computers and shared files on the 192.168.1.1

Greetings!

I have a device on my network that I'm trying to ID. I can get the MAC address off the switch, and I need to get either the IP address or the name of the device. How do I do this using the MAC address?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

A:How to find a computer name or IP with the MAC address?

download a copy of Network Magic to one system and let it discover the devices on your LAN. even after the trial period lapses, it will still keep the mapping current.

For every device discovered, there are details for the device
Mac addr, IP addr, and device/system info

I set up a MAC address access list a couple of weeks back on my Wireless Internet Network and when I try to connect my laptop to it an Error message appears saying that:

Network Error
Windows has detected an IP address conflict
Another computer on this network (i.e. this computer) has the same IP address as this computer (i.e. the laptop). Contact your network administrator for help resolving this issue. More details are available in the Windows System event Log.

The laptop connects but it can't access that Internet. Please help. By the way the MAC address list does include the Laptop's MAC.

Thanks for your help.

A:IP address conflict on network when laptop tries to connect to it

Thank you so much

I am using MAC address filtering and the list consists 4 addresses, a printer, a PSP, the laptop and my desktop. I was trying to make my Router have a Static IP address but I couldn't find out how to do it. When i Set up the MAC address filtering list the laptop was connected to the router and it gave me the pc name and MAC address, so i don't think that it's a typo.

Furthermore which method is safer DHCP Reservation or Static IP against use by others who shouldn't use it. I also have a question that If i change the TCP/IPv4 to use one IP that I've assigned does that make it fully static. and am i right in saying that having static IP's that are different would mean no conflicts between them. But when i tried this it said I have changed the IPv4's on my desktop and laptop to different addresses.

We host a domain 'nabina.com' with brinkster.com and use the same to provide us with emails to all our staff. The 'Servie Provider' provides facility to capture the incoming emails to another account. My concern is the email that our staff send from the individual Pc's in the workgroup/domain which I need to monitor and filter anly selected email. I would like to mention an example the emails that our sales staff send to suppliers must be blocked while to the cutomers should be allowed. Additional features to the device is welcome.

Before I explain the problem thank you to anyone willing adapter address Powerline invalid IP problem to help me sort out this mess I have been at it for hours and have come up with nothing About Powerline adapter invalid IP address problem years ago I purchased the Linksys PLK Powerline Adapters to give internet access to an Xbox and PC in a room where wireless connection was slightly cold They worked exceptionally up until just last week I was surfing the web when I noticed that the Powerline adapter invalid IP address problem internet went down and it has been down ever since The adapters are properly plugged in it appears as if nothing is wrong with them- LEDs still flashing and the Xbox and Computer recognize their presence but they won t connect to the web The router still sends out a wireless signal strong as ever I have tried restarting both modem and router I have checked to see if the MAC addresses are conflicting I have made sure that there is no security to mess it up and I have also made sure that any IP address can access my network I have done just about everything I can think of to make this work Before anyone delays their ideas waiting for an IPCONFIG ALL post from me I have already made sure DHCP and Auto Configuration are enabled and I have no idea what ipconfig renew and ipconfig release or whatever it was do but I did that too The computer from the offline room gives me an IP address of indicating no connection to DHCP not totally sure about the DHCP but it definitely means no connection I have both adapters plugged straight into wall sockets not on the same socket as the modem router and am getting frustrated without the internet in this room so if you have any idea what could possibly be the problem I would greatly appreciate it nbsp

A:Powerline adapter invalid IP address problem

The computer from the offline room gives me an IP address of 169.254, indicating no connection to DHCP (not totally sure about the DHCP but it definitely means no connection.)Click to expand...

Yes that's the issue; that address will not exit your LAN and it is the DHCP failure that generated this address.

Verify that both ends of the Powerline Adapter work locally.
the Master is already attached to your router, so bring the remote device into the same room and plug it into a wall outlet there. Now test - -

I need a pocket sized address book that can sync with WinXP. Any other tasks the device can do are a plus (and might help me choose). What device has a good address book that could be seen as a Rolodex replacement? Most things like this I've found seem to only be compatible with Windows 200 or older. I don't want my phone loaded up with my work contacts but I want that info easy to access. The most important thing would be the ability to look up the business name and find the names of the people there and other notes about them and the business. Any suggestions?

Two days ago, I took my personal laptop off of standy by and tried to connect to my home wireless network. It connected, but I did not get any Internet access. I tried restarting my computer, nothing. I tried resetting my router, nothing. I tried resetting my hub, nothing. Three other computers connect to this network regularly (my dad's, my school laptop, and my sister's laptop) and they have not had any trouble. My Xbox can also connects with no problems. I have reset my TCP/IP and still nothing. I have tried connecting to the router by hardwire and that also does not work. Does anybody have any suggestions?

A:HP laptop will not obtain an IP address

If it connects to the network but not to the internet, try making sure the gateway IP is correct. I've always manually configured my TCP/IP connection IPs, and unless you have the correct gateway IP, the computer doesnt know where to get internet from. (The gateway IP will be the IP of your router)
If you need help manually configuring your IPs, let me know, otherwise, good luck

This is my first post and I want to begin by saying that I am not very tech savvy although I am the default computer quot expert quot yikes causes working stop IP to changing on its address printer own in our house as my husband has never used a computer The problem I am having is that IP addresses within our wireless network are changing on their own quite frequently This causes the network printer to stop working Interestingly sometimes the IP addresses switch ie the IP address for my laptop changes to the IP address that the printer had last week etc I know this to be true because I have a quot cheat sheet quot of steps I follow from Brother our printer IP address changing on its own causes printer to stop working manufacturer which includes the steps of obtaining the IP address for the computers and the printer on the network and then pinging the printer I have recorded the IP address on that sheet for each computer and printer IP address and I am constantly having to cross them out and change them Is this frequent IP address change normal Is there a way to establish permanent IP addresses If not or if that isn t desirable is there some way to stop the constant effects it has on the network printer Thank you for your help with this issue nbsp

Yes this can be resolved two ways
Address reservation and Static IP address assignment.

The former is much easier but I need the make/model number of your router to give HOW-TO details - - -

well, i let me begin with a general background. i'm on a wired network. the computer i use most of the time uses windows xp 32 bit software, but i will soon upgrade to windows 7 software, 32 bit again. 32 bit is preferred over 64 bit since alot of older games i play run only on 32 bit systems.

anyway, if i wish to change my ip address, should i change out the motherboard? or is the ip address assigned through the network. the router has a static ip address, i believe. so, when i ping my ip address, i am reading the router ip?

i guess i am just a little confused with the whole ip address thing. thanks for the help guys!

A:IP address questions

There should be no necessity to change the IP address.

The MB does not contribute to creating the LAN Side address you see with ipconfig /all

Lan address: Is assigned by the DHCP service in your router, OR from a static IP configuration on the NIC. Etherway, your Lan - IP is not visible nor accessible from the Internet.

WAN address: is assigned by your ISP OR from the domain.name registration process. This is the address for ALL of the systems attached to your router. The NAT feature of the router keeps it all straight.

A:Limited no connectivity unable to renew IP address

You have a computer that appears to be sic years old... after six years, several components are often damaged... especially the hard drive.
Do you have the software to format and install a new hard drive?
What is your configuration...
And HP Presario should be a Compaq Presario... I would borrow a computer to download all the drivers, or get somebody to download them for you. If you don't have install disks, you can buy them from HP via a phone call... if they have any left.
When is the last time your computer worked properly and what happened to apparently make it stop working properly.
Do you have a friend who is tech smart to help you take a look at the computer and its components?

I can no longer connect with wlan, it will hang on 'waiting for the network to be ready' this is becuase I have an invalid IP address. Reseting the winsock does not solve it. Windows diagnostics says the winsock is corrupted but after reseting.. nothing. Also windows firewall will no longer start the ics service. I attach part of the windows diagnostics log, could anyone help me with making sense of it?

Check that the device settings for the network interface have not been set to a fixed IP address - go to control panel > network connections > select your device > right click > properties > double click on internet protocol (TCP/IP) and set the two obtain IP and DNS values automatically.
Reboot to reset the system

A:Can't connect to Internet DHCP and renewing IP address issue

Are you using broadband? Wired or wireless?
If you're using a router and you know its IP address you can try manually giving an IP address to your PC but it has to be in the same range as your router. That is if your router's IP is 192.168.1.1 then you'll have to specify something like 192.168.1.2 to your PC.

You may want to try taking a look here too.

A:IP address won't renew without restarting computer

What router or routers are you connecting too? Just to confirm this happens to you if your using a wireless or wired connection? Does your network administrator at your work know your using your laptop? Does this only occur at work?

Just thinking out loud until more info is given:
It sounds like the other computers on your network connect and disconnect often, however your laptop is the only computer having trouble reconnecting. The router may be setup to assign identification numbers (for lack of better word) to each computer that connects to it. Duplicates assigned numbers with other computers can cause this. But if your laptop is the only one experiencing other problems then I doubt it.

Really need MFG/Model number of the modem AND the router (if you have separate devices),

but, get a command prompt (run->cmd) and enter ipconfig /all
the gateway address will be the IP address of the router.

launch your browser and enter http:// followed by the gateway address followed by a / (slash)

you should get the router login screen

Right ok, I have a probably simple request, but its baffling me. I need to have my iPod and PC download emails. But I need it so that, if i delete an email of my iPod, it isn't there on my PC, and vice versa. But I need it too so that if I download the emails to my iPod, I can still access them on my PC.

I'm using a firefox extension called SimpleMail, that has options for POP3 and IMAP, and is useful and quick compared to thunderbird for me.

I've tried it, but just can't figure it out! A detailed step-by-step guide, would be HUGELY appreciated. Probably put this in the wrong section too, but its the best I could think off.

Basicaly any email account with IMAP would be able to do that: Gmail, MobileMe & even Yahoo! offer such services.

Emails are available on all the machines using the IMAP account & even your replies are copied over to all the machines so you can still access them from another machine than the one where you wrote them from.

A:Static ip address

static addresses have two perspectives
WAN side; your public IP from the ISP
LAN side; addresses managed by your router
What you did was part(2)
To solve the WAN side, you need to

purchase a domain name and get your ISP to support the newly assigned address
OR use dyndns.com to follow the dynamic public address from your ISP

I just assembled a Pentium 4 rig with ASUS mobo P4S800D-X and apparently I am having internet connection issue with wired connection. I am connecting through a router and all internet connection are test to work fine with my other computer. I was able to connect wirelessly using a USB internet adapter. It is just the wired connection that is not functioning. I have consulted with ASUS tech support and at first they told me to uninstall the network adapter and reinstall and still problem not solved. Then they said could be a TCP/IP stack issue so they told me to download the SP3 and still issue not resolved.

Does anyone have any issue similar to this that can help me figure out this weird problem?? Thanks.

I have a HP desktop with Windows XP that I attempted to install a Linksys wireless router to. Prior to installing my internet, which is through cable modem, was working fine. After attempting to install, I was no longer able to connect to the internet and the IP address on my 1394 connection was gone. It says connected and when I go under properties for it shows a blank spot where the IP address is supposed to be. I clicked repair but it says "TCP/IP is not enabled for this connection". I also have a Local Area connection 3 and a Local area connection 4 both state Limited or no connectivity. The 4 is VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter and the 3 is Intel 21041-Based PCI Ethernet Adapter. I no longer have the Linksys router and am just trying to get back on internet with that computer. Can anyone help me try to re-establish an IP address?

A:Missing IP address

Do you actually have a network adapter attached to your Firewire (the IEEE 1394) connector?. I'm guessing not and guessing you never had an IP address there

More likely you have network adapters on your Ethernet ports (which are what the other LAN connections you see are referring to)

Click Start->Run, then copy/paste the command line below.
Code:
cmd /c ipconfig /all > "%userprofile%\desktop\ipconfig.txt"
The command will put an ipconfig.txt file on your desktop. Please attach it to your next post

Hi

if it hangs or shows limited connectivity ensure you are typing in the correct key, some routers will allow a passphrase for wep others want the key in hexadecimal format.

I need to export or otherwise copy my contacts from my smartphone to my desktop PC, but can't figure out how to do it..

My smartphone used to sync with the office Exchange Server, but ideally I now want to sync my Outlook contacts with my home PC using standalone Outlook 2003. My PC runs XP SP3 and ActiveSync 4.5. Smartphone is Windows Mobile 6 Standard.

It looks as if I cannot sync Exchage Server contacts to standalone Outlook - if I try to switch to synching with Outlook it tells me the contacts on my phone will be deleted. Is there a safe way of doing this? I would rather retype all my contacts from the phone screen than risk losing them - I can no longer access my former office's Exchange Server.

If I can't use ActiveSync, is there a way of exporting contacts in bulk from Outlook on Windows Mobile?

Thanks for any help - Firepig

What is the security level of your router?
Many people claim they have issues trying to use WPA-PSK2 scurity with Windows XP, and WEP encryption is better.

Ever since i hooked up my xbox 360 to my laptop for an internet connection it says i haave an ip address conflict. and im not able to use the internet. and it also affected my desktop too and that wont get the internet. does anyone know how to fix it?

A:Help with IP address conflict

This happened to me too. What happened was that your xbox360 took over the ip adress of your laptop since they are using the same connection. If it is effecting your desktop as well then you need to follow these steps on both the laptop and the desktop.

1. Open the Command Prompt (from the Start button, go to Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt, or just type cmd.exe in "Run".)
2. In the command prompt window, type ipconfig to see current ip address
3. In the command prompt window, type ipconfig /release
4. In the command prompt window, type ipconfig /renew
5. Exit the Command Prompt by typing exit (you can just close it out as well)

Do this on both of your computers.

An alternative would be for you to unplug and reconnect the cat5's from your router and then restart the router. But I would try the command prompt method first. I made myself a batch file using this method so I don't have to type stuff like that in all the time.

Hello there My computer has been having this very weird connection problem since last week It comes and goes for the past weeks At first I thought it was a virus problem so I formatted my computer But the problem is still there even after the Cannot address format renew after IP even format My computer is connected to a wireless router through an Ethernet cable After the format I figured maybe Cannot renew IP address even after format it was the router or modem s problem so I power cycled both of them but no luck Then I tried to connect to the internet with my laptop Both wired and wireless work on my laptop so it must be a problem on my desktop I can connect any time on my laptop so it must not be a problem of ISP modem or router I had also tried plugging the cable straight into the modem with my desktop when there is a connection problem but it won t work The same problem occurs before AND after format Every time after a restart or shutdown the LAN connection info in the network place will be correct and it shows that I m connected But then it either works or it won t When it doesn t work I will renew the IP but then it will not work anymore I had isolated the problem down to the hardware of my desktop Is there any way I can figure out which part is failing on my desktop nbsp

Hi, I'm new here but hopefully someone can help me out.

I'm trying to get to a site that has only stopped working for me this past friday. I can access it from work and my BlackBerry but not my personal computer (but was able to before last friday)

I've spent over 4 hours on the phone with my ISP/Router company

Thank you and I await a response

A:Address not found

Go to:

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

Open the hosts file with notepad. Is there anything listed in there (after all the lines with beginning with #) other than "127.0.0.1 localhost"?

Also try:

Open a command prompt (start, run, cmd, enter)
Type: ipconfig /flushdns
Close the command prompt window
Try to access the site again.

My nic keeps loosing its IP address

MOBO is a Jetway J939GT4-SLI-G Nvidia chipset i will fill in with more detail later

When I try to repair the connection it locks up the WS and forces to reboot weather I try the repair button or ipconfig to get a new ip address.

If I manually configure one it locks up as well.

I reload the drivers it will work for less than 12 hrs and then get APIPA.

Reset DHCP release time to 30 days to see if it would help still no luck

I have used the drivers from Jetway which doesn?t list the exact mobo I have.

Used drivers from Nvidia and no luck with those either.

Can any one help

i have seen NIC's fail to obtain DHCP because of firewall issues as well as partial hardware failures.

Disable all firewalls.

You might also try to set a static temporarily to see if the NIC is functioning. if that works, but it still will not obtain DHCP, replacement of the nic is the solution.

I just set up our DSL gateway today, and my mother's computer, and mine both work on the network I setup, however, my brother's desktop required us to buy a wireless USB card, so it could detect the network. It can join, but only gets limited connectivity.

It says that there is a conflict with an IP from another computer and to contact the administrator.

All computers running vista.

Thanks

A:There is an IP address conflict with another PC on the network

I'll assume you want a LAN where
you have you one or combination of couple hardware pieces that serve as your DSL modem and router?
You and your mother connnect via cable to the router.
Brother uses wireless to the router..
You probabably have router as DHCP server (i.e. all of your LAN equipment should request their IP addresss from the rouiter) and sounds like one unit is NOT requesting it from router rather then just creating its own

Are you familiar with procedure to logon to router and modify/change settings?

If you need further help will need make/model of router (find a metal tag on it will tell you)

And are you running XP? or Vista? You should also look in the Event Log for the error. See whcih one has the problem (sounds like wireless) and maybe give more data as well. For XP see here

/* EDIT */
Noted this after you fixed your problem and correcting my typo (in red above). Looks like you knew what i meant even tho left off the word NOT

I have an office LAN full of Macs happily connected to the internet. Have a fresh install of XP SP1 on a PC and cannot get the PC to pick up a DHCP IP address....or even an internal one. I recently had to wipe my computer back to factory settings and now my computer won't assign an ip address. I have used wireless internet for a few years and not had any problems until now. Sometimes it says that I have connected to the wireless internet but wont allow me to actually access it, and other times it says that there is limited or no connectivity. I have tried doing system restore again, uninstalling and reinstalling the router but having no luck.

Any help would be great, I'm fed up of having a computer that I barely use just because of this. And I have barely any computer knowledge so basic terms would be really appreciated.

A:PC won't assign an ip address

That failure is due to the system not locating the DHCP service on your LAN.

Suggest you use a wired connection and the Network Wizard first.

Then use the Wireless Wizard to connect using WiFi

A:PPPoE IP address Request timeout

I would first try only hooking up 1 computer(static tcp/ip settings) to your router and your routers WAN port to your dsl modem. reset the router and modem by pressing the button on the back (normally labeled and you have to use a paperclip) for 15 seconds each. after that unplug the power to both your router and modem and plug the back in at the same time. the default ip of the linksys will be 192.168.1.1 and your modem should be either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.254 (those are a couple). enter the proper pppoe settings in the modem (if possible). if not you can always use the linksys to store the pppoe information.

No matter what i try i still get a limited or no connectivity message. I tried restore point, but no go also. Well if you think you got rid of something you need, then I'd suggest removing it from the device manager, restarting windows and letting it reinstall the wireless card. Just keep your manufacturer CD close, in case you need to manually install the drivers for it.

First. What kind of internet connection do you have? We want all the details including the type (cable/DSL) and any devices used (modems/routers/interface cards).

I just moved into a new apartment and my neighbor is letting me share her wifi internet. The password she gave me works, but when i connect to the internet it says there is limited or no connectivity. When I try to repair it says it cannot renew my IP address. I tried opening the cmd window and putting in ipconfig/renew, but it says that there is an error and it is anable to contact the DHCP Server and the request has timed out. The internet everywhere else works just fine however (I am at work right now and it works, and I went to an internet cafe and used it there without a problem as well.

Does anybody have any ideas of how to fix this problem? I would really appreciate it!

A:Cannot renew IP Address, Unable to contact DHCP Server

1. Check the wifi /router end of the connection is configured to be a DHCP server
2. Beyond that there can be many variables. I think you're best approach:
=== > Backup the wifi / router settngs (most devices allow you to backup their config to your hard drive. Check the user manual)
===> Remove all the restrictions that were added via the config (e.g encryption, MAC address screening, etc.
3. Verify you and neighbors computer all connect and work when no restrictions.
4. Add back restrictions one-at-a-time and retest the computers (yours and neighbors) until they all work and all restrictions have been applied

A:Wireless Adapter - Acquiring Network Address Troubleshooting

If your "setup" includes encryption and MAC addresss block or other filtering/security methods you should only add those incrementally as you know other stuff is working

Startout just trying to connect to a simple wireless broadcast and verify your adapter sees the SSID being broadcasted by the router.

Hi I am a small business owner running laptops and a desktop pc one of the laptops is running xp although will hopefully upgrade it to vista soon I am looking to purchase a NAS device mostly for media sharing and syncronization between pc s but would like to be able to access my email accounts via outlook NAS email knowledge and lacking. although would consider another product with same basic functionality eg local storage tasks calendar etc I am using googlemail for all my NAS and email knowledge lacking. accounts I am aware that there are several NAS devices out there that let you connect and manage NAS and email knowledge lacking. files remotely over the internet It seems that to me that it should therefor be relatively simple to have all outlook or alternative files stored on a remotely accessible NAS to synchronize accross all pc s automatically on login hereby removing the need for an expensive hosted service such as MS exchange I have googled just about every variation I can think of to find the relevant information but to no avail I am fairly savvy for an unqualified home user but lack the deeper understanding of NAS and outlook to get through this one on my own If this is possible please give some advice on setup and the best hardware fro the job Lastly if the NAS doubled as a print server that would be cool too MAny thanks in advance for your help Best regards Don nbsp

A:NAS and email knowledge lacking.

NAS devices (Network Attached Storage) just attach to your LAN using the File Sharing,
Map Network Drives capability.

1) Internet access to one of YOUR LAN drives is a big security hole, so that's not the
right approach.

2) depending upon the software you use to send/receive, sharing email files can easily corrupt them and you lose everything.

If I wanted Internet access to my email, I would use a Webbased email solution
(like gmail), configure it to retain all down loaded email, and the use my pc
to access the gmail pop3 account.

Ok, so I woke up today and my internet was just not working. My modem is connected directly to my computer right now, and obviously everything is fine. So heres the problem. When I connect the modem to my Linksys WRT150N router, the router does not register an IP. I've tried release and then renewing it, but it keeps saying in the status 0.0.0.0. I can log onto my router fine, I think its just not registering with my provider for some reason... The weird thing is, it was working fine until I woke up today, I hate problems like that... Any suggestions???

Oh, and I'm on Mac OSX 10.5.4 incase that helps...

A:Router not registering an IP address

Trouble shooting is long and slow.
First, have your provider check that the connection is otherwise good by getting them on the phone. Some will not work on weekends. Others only work from 9 to 5, so it can be frustrating..
Then reinstall the LinkSys software.
Next, see if you can, borrow someones wireless unit to be sure the problem is not elsewhere in the system.
In our experience, the WRT150N is a reliable unit, but you can always have a cable modem burn out for no good reason.

However, when I select 'Tools | Options' on my laptop AS session, and try to select 'Contacts' for this PC, it tells me I must un-select contacts from 'Windows PC' (which is my Home PC), and when I do that, it tells me it "must remove all contacts on your pocket PC".

What the HECK is with that? I don't want to lose contacts I have entered into my iPaq while waiting for my new laptop! What ***** decided that was necessary? Just sync the confound thing!

More imprtantly, how do I sync without losing my contacts on my iPaq?

A:ActiveSync 4.5 wants to delete all my contacts

Back up your contacts and follow ActiveSyncs instructions

I have a unsecured wireless network at home. I have a D-link router which is connected with the broadband modem. Offlate, some mis deeds have been happening and I am being blamed for them because the IP and MAC address of my broadband modem and my own computer has been traced .
Can anyone guide me to justify myself ?
I assume that someone logged into my unsecured network, took all the data and then using that data, that person logged on to yahoo messenger and sent filthy text messages some other people. After reporting to the cyber crime cell, my MAC address was traced . Now how can I justify to my family that I have not done anything and how can I prove it ?? Please help asap !

A:My MAC address hacked! Help !

is likely that your neighbours could be responsible for piggy backing your internet. as it is illegal you can report this to the police as you will be held responsible for anything that is done from your pc that is illegal.
go HERE and run a cleanup for hacker programmes and bugs etc. then get yourself a good firewall that will protect your network and regularly scan for computers connecting to your pc. trend micro PC-CILLIN does this.
after you have completed the instructions in the link post all logs required eg, avg, hjt, comb and vundo. please post them as attachments and not a paste.

Hello,

I'm older, as are my eyes, and the type in HTML emails is difficult to read. I changed Outlook 2003 to display everything as Text so I can enlarge using my scroll wheel but the tons of hyperlinks detract.

My Windows menus and Firefox are 14 point for easy reading but I can't find an Outlook setting that applies to HTML messages.

Your help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Have a read of this thread: http://www.techspot.com/vb/showthread.php?p=618919
It states Outlook2007, but should be similar (if not the same)

A:Error: "Invalid IP address"

Fix the hardware (keyboard) then fix the software.

You could try this:

Open Notepad and cut and paste the following and save as Flush.bat then run it;

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /registerdns

ipconfig /renew

netsh winsock reset catalog

netsh int ip reset reset.log

netsh winsock reset

I am having a problem with one of the computers on my network -- call them Computers A B and C Most of the time other computers on the LAN B and C cannot ping Computer A by computer name however they can ping it by IP address as well as access its shares using the IP Sometimes though everything works perfectly meaning I Can by name by not but address computer ping IP computer can ping computera or access computera to Can ping computer by IP address but not by computer name view shares Most of the times though this doesn t work and I have to use the IP to access it Now I ve tried getting on this computer and trying the Can ping computer by IP address but not by computer name reverse that is ping Computer B or C on my network and that works fine So basically it s the same story for both B and C -- they can ping A by IP address and it s rare that they can by computer name And A has no trouble pinging B or C by IP or hostname All computers are running XP Pro with SP or SP Computer A is connected wirelessly and has no firewall running or other Internet security software I have tried ipconfig flushdns and ipconfig registerdns I have also tried resetting the TCP IP stack on Computer A So any idea what gives It s a crazy problem I can t understand why it s sporadic why sometimes I can access the computer by computer name but most of the times I need to use the IP address I think I have definitely narrowed the problem down to Computer A since B and C respond the same way and can communicate with each other just fine Initially I wondered if something might be wrong with the DNS on the router but since B and C have no problems with each other I m pretty sure the problem is with A itself The only possible fix I can think of is to manually edit the HOSTS file in Windows on every computer on the network and map the computer name quot computera quot to its IP address I m guessing this would work however I really don t want to do this There are computers on the network and I d rather not have to do this Finally if it matters my router is an old computer running IPCop which is based on Squid Proxy I believe I d love to hear any ideas on what could be causing this Thanks - Luke nbsp

A:Can ping computer by IP address but not by computer name

Luke,

I was going to tell you about the Master Browser to set one PC as that and turn off that feature on all of the other PCs. Wireless gets screwy with MB. Their is a program called Browstat.exe that is free from MS, but you need to search for the software. You install that in Windows folder. Then open a dos session and type:

browstat -status

It should report back which PC is the Master Browser and if you have one set for a backup browser. The Domain or Workgroup is okay. If you don't get this message then you got a problem with the Master Browser.

Now another problem you got is IPCop can act-up when I was using it was it did that. But still if you have your router setup not to be ping block it won't work though.

hi everybody i just wanna ask help in how to change my ip adrees to US ip address its because i found a survey site thats not available for my county but only at US!!! btw im from philippines!! and btw will this work?>?/ thx!!

A:Changing Ip Address

It's not possible for you to change your Internet IP to a US IP, because your Internet IP is provided by your ISP in your country this being the Philippines, so whatever site you connect to your ISP will be able to track your activity as well as websites logging data on how many people are visiting the site from certain countries.
So lt looks like you can't do the survey thing.
