Anyone tried replacement cooler for HD5850?

Q: Anyone tried replacement cooler for HD5850?

I'm finding that now that I've got two of them running in crossfire the XFX card I have with the reference ATI cooler is running hot. After last gaming session MSI Afterburner reported 87C max temp. So I've been playing with the idea of selling it and getting another MSI card which comes with a very good cooler, or just buying a cooler (which would probably cost around the same as selling the XFX card and putting money toward a new MSI one).

Anyone got any experience? Any recommended coolers? Tips for installation?

Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Anyone tried replacement cooler for HD5850?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Anyone tried replacement cooler for HD5850?

Hi Arris,
This cooler is very good if you want to go the replacement route. I Don't know about prices in Scotland, but here the prices on the 58xx series are very good, and as good as they are probably going to get. as far as installation tips. more GPU's get damaged because people pull straight up when they remove the heat-sink. When you are ready to remove it, gently twist it back and forth keeping it on center until you break the (now very set) thermal compound loose. Be very sparing on the thermal compound as well. it does not take much to cover the small chip.
hope that helps some.

There are quite a few AM2 HSFs still available. But you must specify your budget and also determine whether your case will house those that are available.

A:Problem with Cooler Master chipset cooler RUNNING HOT!

chipsets have a higher heat tolerence than CPUs, 40c is a safe operating temp. also, temp sensors are not accurate, so you can't really go by the reading from it anyways. it's not unusual for software based sensor to be as much as 10c off the actual temp.

the cooler you bought should work fine. did you thoroughly clean the chipset and heatsink with isopropyl alcohol and then apply new thermal compound before mounting the cooler?

Alright, so recently my stock cooler for my CPU has been getting really annoying. It seems to get really loud during gaming, with my CPU temps averaging around 43c.

So I decided to grab a new CPU cooler. Ive had my eyes on the
COOLER MASTER V8

But now after a little of reading up on the cooler, I'm a little concern about size and effectiveness. Here's my case if anyone knows if it will definitely fit.

Also,id like to know if there are any other good CPU coolers out their along the same price range, that performs better.

-Thanks In advance

Rumored pictures have popped up of ATI's DX11 Radeon HD 5850, or at least a variant of it. From what we can see, there's an incredibly long PCB for a single-GPU accelerator, an elaborate monolithic cooler, and a single 6-pin power connector.

Hei.
My question is if an ATI xfx hd5850 black edition and ATI radeon hd5850 can be in cross-fire with each other?
Both are 1gb memory.

Also will cross-fire with those two cards increase performance noticeably or is it possible to add a larger gpu to cross-fire with ati radeon hd5850?
If so any recommendations for what card to add for up to $100?

Thanks for any advice

A:SLI with different hd5850 gpu cards

It's usually difficult to say whether 2 cards will crossfire unless they are exactly the same cards. If it did work then your PSU would be OK to run them. If it was me then I'd aim to sell your existing card and then look for a better card with this money + $100. If you made $50 on the old card then you could buy an R9 270 which would be a step up. Going 2nd hand then you might be able to score an R9 280. Both these cards would run fine with your PSU. Going for a better card than this probably wouldn't be worth it as your CPU would become the weak link.

If i were to install another fan to make it dual fan, would both be intake or would one be exhaust and intake etc. As in going with the push pull flow?????

I have the 212+ as well. You'd want one push and 1 pull. Also, make sure the 2nd fan moves the same amount of air as the 1st, or you'll create a bottleneck of sorts. But with 2 fans that have equal airflow, you will notice a drop in temps. But there will be more noise, unless you change both fans to a quiet fan like Noctua's. A Guy

Hi Welcome to TSF and thank you

As for your current situation there are few things I can recommend

First and for most Update Windows
Update Drivers

Now once that said.. you mentioned that after you removed your GPU everything seems to be smooth so that makes me think that your power supply is at fault here

You have a very underpowered and low quality power supply
I would def replace it

I am trying to install a new ATI HD5850 into my wife's computer to upgrade to win10. She has a x1950 in there right now. Abit AN9 32x board with 4gb ram and a AM2 Athalon 64 CPU and a 500w power supply. I installed the new card and every time I try to boot, it gets stuck at the C1 post and won't go any further. If I unplug the power cords from video card, the same thing happens. Plug the old card in, with power plugs off, the computer will go past the C1 post until it gets to the video check and gives the beeps, so I know it's not the power supply. Is this motherboard not compatible with this new video card? Is there a work around? Just trying to upgrade to 10 right now, then about 6 months to a year, will build a new rig for her.

Just wanted to share this as anybody with the same card might want to try it. Got bored of manually overclocking my XFX HD 5850, wanted a permanent stable overclock. I flashed to the XFX HD5870 bios and it works perfect! Low temps and a massive jump in performance! Crysis runs about 10 fps faster than before and in benchmarks I am scoring alongside the genuine HD 5870's

My HD 5850 now gets 7.8 in windows 7 wei

Very happy with this new bios my card is running much better than before lol, Highly recommend any HD 5850 user to flash as your basically getting HD 5870 performance without having to pay the extra...

Yes it is compatible with your mobo. I did some googling and it seems your mobo has a PCI E x16 and that's what the Graphics card needs. Just a side note, you would need a 500W power supply or greater to be able to use this Graphics card.

Hi all.

I am currently saving to build a new computer. Originally i was planning on getting two Radeon 5770's using the Corsair HX650W power supply. But now i am thinking about getting just one 5850 for now, and then getting another 5850 and running 2 in crossfire in the future.

My question is very simple. Will the Corsair HX650W Power Supply be enough to power 2 radeon 5850's?

I am also planning on getting an AMD Phenom II x4 955 CPU, 4GB of DDR3 1600 memory and 1, 1TB hard drive.

So thats pretty much it really. Should the HX650W be sufficient for this setup?

Cheers.

A:Corsair HX650W PSU enough for Radeon HD5850's in Crossfire?

You should be fine. AMD's recommendation is a 600w PSU for that setup. That recommendation is based on the fact that not all PSU's are created equal, so they err on the side of caution just in case some people use an "off-brand" <70% efficency unit.
Dual HD 5850's will generally use a maximum of 300w, so unless you are planning on a very substantial overclock of both cards and CPU, you should be fine as the Corsair is a very good quality PSU.

Might pay to see what AMD's big announcement is on the 25th September. Best case scenario is AMD bite the bullet and opt for a big die to put some pressure on the GTX 780/ Titan, although I'm picking that what they end up with might split the difference between the 7970GE and the GTX 780 performance wise.
Either way, unless it is strictly a PPS presentation, AMD should be announcing some kind of timetable. If that launch is close at hand you could see a nice realignment pricewise if the products look compelling and present sales start to stall out, with the added bonus that AMD would again drop prices to clear inventory.

If you're set on getting a card before then, I'd check the pricing on GTX 670's as well as 760's. You'll get a little more performance with the 670 especially if its an overclocked card (basically a GTX 680 once you hit that cards clock). If not, then the 7950 is, likewise, a solid option in the 180-200 range.

Pc is 2 and a half year old now, the HD6970 i recieved today.
When using MSI afterburner idle temp is 55c (NEW), 49(OLD).

I'm getting bsod with error message in the lines of "could not restart display driver etc" both cards. Sometimes the screen freezes up and the bsod doesn't arrive only a remark bubble by the clock about restarting display driver.
Have used different drivers with the old one, and reinstalled windows during that time as well.
I am planning on buying an upgrade pack with mobo, mem and cpu. But i was wondering if the problem might lie with the psu? And how do i check that?

A:BSOD Restart Display Driver (For Hd5850 and HD 6970, no crossfire)

Quote:
"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps

Hi, and excuse me if my english is abit scruppy.

I have a problem with my ATI card that I just can't how to fix. I've googled for God knows how many hours without results that works for me. The problem is whenever Im gaming (it's the only way the GPU gets proper load) the screen freezes, turns black and usually exits the game. I get the message that "Display driver has stopped working and has been succsessfully recovered."
It's kinda annoying because I can't play a single game for more than 10-30 minutes without problems or crashing.

My OS is Windows 7 x64.

ASUS P7P55D
Intel i5
Asus HD5850
Corsair XMS3 CL9 2x2 GB
Chieftec Super Series 650W

I've tried:
-Setting the clockspeed on my GPU 20mhz down
-Using only one memorybrick
-Different catalyst drivers from 9.something to 10.1
-Drivercleanup
-Formating

None of these has been giving me any results at all.. Please help me.

Hi CptZiggy. Welcome to SevenForums.

Have you considered the possibility that your Card may be overheating?

Here is an ATI Tool which will allow you to monitor your Temp and fan speeds.

ATITool - Overclocking utility for ATI and NVIDIA cards

You may find that inadequate cooling may be the cause of your problem.

Hope this helps.

Hey guys,

I've got a brand new core 2 duo stock cooler from my old PC, and it seems much better than the stock cooler I got on my i5: cooper base, twice as much heat sink and pretty much the same fan. I was wondering if it would work better on the i5 than the tiny little I think I got along with it. Place your opinions, I'll test it this afternoon and post the results.

I'm looking for a completely silent CPU cooler, and I have already checked some options from thermaltake and thermalright with huge fanless heatsinks. The problem is that those seem too large to fit inside the case, and the pictures taken only show them on a motherboard outside of any case.
1) Do you know of such a fanless heatsink that can fit onto the case, and maybe even extend outside of it?
2) Can such a fanless heatsink support a quad core CPU (With case fans of course, particularly 2 120mm fans)?

I plan on getting a new computer soon, and will buy the AMD 2500+ Processor. What I was wondering, is if i plan on overclocking it to 3200+, will the stock cooling be good enough, or should I get a different one. My case is going to have 6 case fans, and it's huge, so it will be well ventilated. I was thinking about this one, http://www.xpcgear.com/ttsilenta1889.html. Is that even better, and is it even necessary. Or if you have any other suggestions, please let me know. And water cooling isn't really an option, it's too spendy for me, plus I doubt it's necessary.

You will definitely need a new fan if you are planning on going up to a 3200+, and the fan you linked to seems very good to me, and it suprisingly shouldn't be particularly noisy either at only 21dB.

My best experience was with a ocz cooler that actually blew air out the back. This continued the flow from front to back and helped airflow in general as well as keeping the cpu cool up to a 15-20% overclock.

What I had was similar to this
Newegg.com - CORSAIR CAFA70 120mm Dual-Fan CPU Cooler

Up or down airflow will actually just interrupt the over all flow through the case, at least that's my personal experience.

hi everyone whats the general opinion of ram coolers? im thinking of them if they are worthwhile i have seen this one thats on offer Corsair CMXAF1 Dominator Memory Fan Cooler

A:Ram fan cooler

Hi,

I see that you are using DDR2 RAM, this could get hotter than DDR3 RAM because of the higher voltage used. If you want to overclock your RAM it is always better to use a RAM cooler to protect the RAM and may be helping in getting a higher overclock stable. Extra cooling is always better and a RAM cooler will cool the RAM and the surrounding components. They are not that expensive but can sometimes be a bit noisy because of the small fans and high RPM. I'm using the OCZ XTC cooler and it has a high/low switch and when set on low it is almost inaudible.

For the most part my CPU run pretty cool but with a couple of apps Hulu Desktop is the only one that comes to mind at the moment it revs the CPU to nearly when in full screen If I just have a small window showing it drops drastically but when at the high end the CPU temperature gets closer to the limit than I'm comfortable with This has me thinking about an aftermarket cooler but I've never used anything except the AMD OEM cooler I don't want to spend a lot but haven't set a budget for it yet Also I noticed a used set of components on eBay a while back that included a Cooler Master cooler than used an internal water system along with a fan that Cooler CPU looked a little like an overgrown OEM cooler except that it was designed so that the airflow went from front to back rather than vertically It seemed that this would work well with the overall airflow patterns of CPU Cooler the case The bottomline is how much would I have to spend for a cooler that would make a significant difference in temperature I really don't like the idea of water cooling except as I described CPU Cooler above Along with a price some specific recommendations would help

A:CPU Cooler

Two inexpensive ones I have tried are the CoolerMaster TX-3 and Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7

I'm not sure if they're compatible with your setup, but they will both do a good job if you use some good thermal paste and apply it right.

Do a search on your favorite retailer's site and see if they are compatible with your system and good luck. It a good inexpensive upgrade.

Which cpu cooler would you recommend, parameters are quality, reliability and quiet.
I have an Asus P5W DH Del with an E6400 Core 2 Duo. It has the stock Intel cooler.
I am not o/c at the moment (if I did it would be minimal).
The cpu runs cool.
However, this stock cooler is more noisy than I would like so I am considering this upgrade.
Any advice/recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks

A:Which CPU cooler to use??

If you just want it to be quieter, I would enable the smart fan feature; check your mb manual for how to enable / disable this feature.

FWIW I use an asus VR cooler on a Pentium D 940 and it works very well. Quite as well.

Hey guys I'm looking to replace the heat sink / fan on my Geforce 9600 GSO. At full load it is borderline 80 degrees C. I was looking at some coolers on Newegg and some of these ones make me wonder if it will work.

This one from zalman
http://www.zalman.com/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=276
on their site says it fits a 9800gt, gtx, 9500gt and such. But nothing for a 9600 GSO listed. I wonder if the bolt patterns are the same as the 9800s and 9500s since they are very similar in design. Any GPU Gurus out there that can give a little more insight. I tried emailing Zalman but that was a complete flop as expected.

Does the Scythe Mini Ninja Heatpipe CPU cooler work with Socket AM3 processors? It only states AM2 in the description but I've heard somewhere it works with socket AM3 processors, it would be going on an AMD phenom II x2 3.2ghz black edition processor. I've got a small case so I need this coolers size, unless you can suggest any other small cpu coolers (preferably under 130mm in height) for AM3 sockets.

And the Fan at full speed of 2400 rpm is absolutely silent. It is a big unit so mounting in some cases and on some boards might be difficult. But I am impressed so far. That cooler should work, however it is going to be somewhat loud. Has the stock cooler failed?

Unless you are trying to overclock your card, I always recommend using the stock cooler with an ati card.

If you do not mind the noise, the cooler you selected will work fine. Make sure you clean off the old thermal paste before you apply your new paste and cooler.

Your cpu is probably a 478 pin type, you will have to verify this when you buy a cpu fan. Your socket or where the cpu is plugged into on your motherboard is what the fan mounts to, to look for a fan you just look under Socket 478 cpu heat sink fan at your favorite computer parts site.

I'm hoping to go for an AIO water cooler and was going to go for the Corsair H110iGTX however my case is the Zalman Z11 Plus Mid tower case with an Asus Sabertooth Z97 motherboard and this means that there is very little room between the top of the motherboard and the case. (preferably i dont want to remove the fins on top of the case as they're half the aesthetics)

I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with fitting 240/280mm rads in a Z11 Plus or if not then if anyone has any experience with a Corsair H80iGT which would be my alternative.

Hi all!

I am going to buy a new computer, and I basically have everything now. Except for my CPU cooler. I will be using it on a AMD Phenom II X6 1090T, on a Asus Crosshair IV Formula motherboard. I am not planning to be pushing extreme limits, around 4GHz I guess. My budget is about $60-$70 or 40-50 euros.

I heard that the Prolimatech Megahelm was really good with a Push-Pull confguration. So that would mean that I should get 2 seperate fans. Does anyone know some good ones? I'd prefer them to be under 10 dollars or 7 euros. I just found these two: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...rue&Keywords=(keywords)&Page=2#scrollFullInfo and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835200028. Both have really good reviews, but one has a sleeve bearing type and one a 2 ball bearing type. Is there a big difference? Are these good fans?

A:Need help on CPU cooler

If those are the options,go with the ball bearings. Stay away from the sleeve bearings, especially on the HS cooling your CPU. They have a decidedly shorter life span, and in some cases can 'go out' rather quickly.

The default inexpensive choice is the Cooler Master Hyper 212, which sells for around 30 bucks. Well above average and cheaper than most. Large, but not enormous.

You clean off old thermal paste with isopropyl alcohol and clean cotton rags or q tips.

You don't need much new thermal paste. The standard paste recommendation is Arctic Silver 5. Apply it according to the instructions for your processor at arcticsilver.com. You don't need much.

I know nothing about mounting on AMD, but mounting on Intel is a cruel joke designed by the Marquis de Sade and Alfred E. Newman (their only joint venture).

So I'm doing another big rig build. I have my Intel i7 processor on the board and a honkin' big cooling fan and fins to help it run cool. But now my memory won't fit.

My plan now is to use the cooling fan and heat sink that came with the processor. It's considerably smaller but it was included with the processor. I usually go big with the CPU cooling but it seems to me that if Intel put the fan in the package, they are satisfied that it will do the job.

The case has lots of space and HUGE fans itself so, I'll go this route until I find a suitable replacement. Or maybe this can work indefinitely. Any thoughts?

A:CPU cooler big enough?

As long as you do not overclock the processor, the stock intel fan does fine.

With some of the large hsf, you have to do some engineering to get it to fit. I had to grid some material off of the bottom of a coolermaster 212 to get the memory to fit. Another option is to use low profile memory like this;

If AM2 coolers are compatible with AM2+ socket (think they are), then look at Zalman 9500 or 9700 coolers (9700 would be better for a quad core Phenom). They just use the retention clip design without having to put a backing plate on.

I used the 9500 cooler on my Athlon x2 and it kept it nice and cool, and using the 9700 on my E8200 atm, and it's running great.

I have to say, the best thing about AM2 sockets is the very easy installation of coolers on it.

If you hear no fan noise when pushing the CPU to the maximum, and the notebook doesn't shut off, the notebook is a fanless model.

Should I have cleaned the old themal stuff off and then replace it? Is it not turning on because it has no contact?

A:Replacing Old CPU Cooler??

Yes, you need to completely clean off the old thermal paste/pad and apply the new stuff. If you didn't then the heat is likely not dissipating into the heatsink, and your CPU is overheating. Most motherboards will automatically turn off when the CPU gets too hot to avoid damaging things.

so basically I picked up a ocz gladiator max cpu cooler for 31.99 after mir

after reading some post later on, vendetta 2 is better than it?

just wondering =[

A:New CPU cooler, need your recomendations

Dont expect noticeably lower temps with the vendetta 2. What cpu are you using.

I have an MSI KT4V M/B.Earlier I could use cooler XP.Then after i changed some BIOS settings,I don't remember what, it started asking "MSI Mainboard?" when I clicked on "Cooler XP".But the temperatures and fan speed continued to be shown in PC Alert 4.I replaced my M/B with a new one when it stopped working. But the problem persists.I even reinstalled the software but to no avail. What can be the problem?BTW sometimes when I am doing some work the M/B gives a small beep. Why is it so?

Thanx in advance.

A:Cooler XP not working

Why don't you clear the cmos by removing the motherboard battery and then load up default bios settings and see if the MSI program works. Then if you adjust the bios settings one at a time and if the problem returns you can isolate the one that is causing the problem.

As it is a CPU cooling program, have you done any adjustments to the CPU voltage settings, or any overclocking settings for the CPU in the bios - these may be creating problems with the mobo sCPU sensor.

Hi, everyone. i got a acer aspire r11 and im planning to get a laptop cooler, but the whole laptop was totally has a enclosure. no fan grills or something. so what do you suggest guys?

A:do i need a laptop cooler?

i tested a R14 and honestly the default cooling fan was perfect and silent, never had high temperature feelings, so not worth in my opinion.

I don't think so...

I've just OCed my comp by a fair bit, and I found that after awhile, it just crashes. And I managed to isolate the problem to my Northbridge, which more or less burnt my hand when I touched the heatsink.

So now I'm looking for a good heatsink for my northbridge. Preferably with a fan, but those seem to be alot more expensive, or they don't seem to be very effective (the Tt Extreme Spirit Cooler for one, cheap but the heatsink is so small, and the fan's only 3cfm at max, generating 41dB).

Anyone got any idea where I can get 40mm fans and just put it on top of a cheaper heatsink, say, the Zalman ZM-NB47J?

Or just a plain old HSF combo.

Or if you've got experience in this, and have a good heatsink you're using. Cos my bus isn't too happy running at 1.2Ghz (instead of 800Mhz).

A:Need a northbridge cooler

Hello

Sounds to me you may want to consider liquid cooling.
Even though I'm liquid cooling, I'm using a vantec "iceberQ 4 " vga
heatsink and fan 6000 R.P.M, fan demensions: 40X40X10 mm.

I lapped the heatsink to make it real flat and used "artic silver"
thermal adhesive (2 part epoxy) be sure to follow instructions.
Works great so I won't be adding a chipset block.

Hello,

I am thinking about purchasing a Vantec"Copper X"CPU Cooler. My current heatsink and fan are a oem make. My AMD XP 2100+ is at 45 to 50 degrees celsius at idle and the fan is spinning at 4963 rpm. I also have a NVidia GeForce FX 5200 card. I thought a new Vantec fan and heatsink would help the cpu temp out. The Vantec fan is louder but it spins at 6800 rpm. Any input would be appreciated. My other question is about replacing the heatsink and fan. I have never done this before and was wondering if I sould attempt it or seek a technician to do it?

Thank you

WONDERING WHO MAKES THIS COOLER CAME WITH MY 6800GT OC NOT THE STOCK COOLER

A:Who Makes This Cooler

First of all, drop the capslock, you might not mean it, but it usually gives off a bad attitude to people reading.

Second, that looks like Thermalright's V1 Ultra.

Hi

Not long ago I built a wooden cabinet to hold a friends pc & other audio goodies.

Unsurprisigngly, with the cabinet door closed, temps within the case have risen 5-10 degrees(celcius).
Now its a bit too hot for my liking - 38C mobo, 60C cpu - idle.
We have quiet fans in the pc & Id rather not go the route of increasing their speeds = more noise.

I was wondering if a cooler is available for the wooden cabinet itself ?
I did some searches but only came up with some industrial spec units min. $200.
Less than $50 would be cool(scuse the pun) & quiet & small if poss.
Anyone know of this kind of equipment ?

Thanks abbyk

I was looking into maybe getting a new HS/ fan for my north bridge chip set. I noticed it gets pretty hot and in turn I am sure some of that heat is moving toward the processor as well.

Question: How do I know what works?

My MB is a Dell. Model: 0M017G, ATX.
North Bridge: Intel P45 Revision A3

I was looking at getting:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835425007.

The thing I am not sure about is if It will work. On the chip set right now it has 2 retaining clips holding down the aluminum heat sink. I'm not sure if i could reuse these clips or not. Or are chip sets pretty universal?
