I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What version of Adobe Reader are you trying to install?

And from what location (Adobe website, your system, etc.)?

My version of Adobe Acrobat Pro 6.0 (I know it is not supported by Adobe) installs sufficiently so that I can use it (mostly). However the request for install the program is still in the Windows Installer. So each time I boot, I need to cancel the install of Adobe since it doesn't do anything, even when I let it run to completion.

How do I find and rid myself of the command that tries to install Adobe each time I re-boot the system???

Windows Vista 64 bit, running on an Intel duo-core system with 4GB RAM.

Thanks

The last time I removed a virus from my computer, it messed something up. I cannot install adobe reader... when I do the same things pop up all over my screen that I cant get rid of unless I uninstall it and restart my computer a few times... Please help

A:cannot install adobe reader

Hi Helprebs, Sorry to hear of the problems you are having. Until some of our more knowledgeable forum members, Moderators, etc can arrive to review your post, could you please clarify "what 'things' are popping up on your screen" that you referred to? (E.g. are they fake anti-malware popups, etc)? Also, have you checked to ensure your computer is free of any malware issues, and if so, by what means? Including some system specs would also help others to better assist you with this issue. * I see that you've been experiencing significant issues going back to March of this year that appear to bear similarity to the present problems. It may end up being necessary to post your topic in the "Am I infected" sub-forum. The Moderators, BC Advisors, and Admins will advise you, if that is necessary.Best regards!

I need to install Adobe Reader to read a .pdf account statement. I'm running Mozilla 2.0.0.12 on Gutsy. There's a fac on downloading to Mozilla on the Adobe site which says I need to look for a yellow bar in the upper right corner that says, "edit options" which will enable me to add downloads to allowed list. Sure enough Adobe downloads but won't install and I get a window that says,"Could not open " "Adobe Reader_enu-8.1.2-1.1486.RPM" I seem to remember the yellow bar, but I don't have it now. Is it a former iteration, and is there another way to summon the allowed list?

I'm trying to update to the latest version of Adobe Reader, but having a bit of trouble doing so. When I attempt to run the installer, it asks for permission, then the installer icon disappears from the desktop and nothing happens. The installer shows up as a running process, and is located in the AppData\Local\Temp folder, but doesn't seem to run. I get the same result when I run the .exe from the downloading site, and with other Adobe versions (9 and 10, but I want to install 11). I removed the older version I had with Revo, and now I'm stuck without Reader. I'm running a 32-bit OS.

Any recommendations?

Have you simply tried restarting your computer? if not try that. Also save the .exe file to your computer and navigate to the directory opening it there. Some windows updates when being installed, will interfere with the installation as well.
Also i will attach the adobe reader setup file for you. try using the attached file.

A:Adobe Reader will not install

Are you logged in as administrator? Are you part of a domain?CAUSEThis problem results from two sources:- The person installing did not have the same permissions as the person using the add-in- The registry entry for that particular registry entry has become corrupt.RESOLUTIONThe add-in is attempting to write to the specified key (or hive) and permission for that registry key is restricted. The issue can be resolved by setting the permission to this key to allow full control. To fix this:1. On the Windows Task bar, click Start, Run.2. Type "regedit" (without the quotes) and click OK.3. Browse to the specified registry key.4. Right click the key and select "Permissions."5. In the Group or User names field, select the user installing the program. Be sure the user has administrative rights.6. Under the Permissions field, make sure "Full Control" and "Read" are both set to "Allow."7. Click OK and attempt the operation again. In some cases it may be necessary to change the permissions of the System account (which is different than the permissions on the Administrator account). If you try the above steps and it still doesn't work, then try this:1. Run regedit2. Right click on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT3. Click Permissions4. Click on the Add button then add Administrators and click OK.5. In the resulting "Permissions for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" window, check the "Allow" box for full control and read.6. Click the Add button again and add SYSTEM and again check the Allow box for full control and read.7. Click Ok, exit regedit.8. Rerun setup and you'll be all set.www.sperrysoftware.com

Either remove it and reinstall Adobe using Revo Pro trial: Revo Uninstaller Pro - Uninstall Software, Remove Programs easily

Or use an alternative such as Foxit Foxit Software - Foxit Reader 4.1 for Windows or Nitro Nitro PDF Reader

Hello I recently purchase a Dell Studio 1535 with Windows Vista Home Premium, I've tried to install Adobe Reader 9 and Safari 3.1.2 for Windows, and both came up with an error message saying 'This installation package could not be opened, verify that the package exists and that you can open it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package'. I'm running the applications as administrator and have been able to install other exe. files. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?

A:Can't install Safari or Adobe Reader 9

No idea what the problem might be, but be advised Adobe Reader is forever being found to have vulnerabilities in it. best not installed at all - try foxit reader here http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader_2/down_reader.htm

Similar for safari - unless you are wedded to it, try Opera brower, or Avant browser.

Just one question ? how big are the executables you have? Adobe for instance is over 23Mb. If what you have is much, much smaller, it is a stub installer, designed to download the 'real thing' from the internet. Vista because of its condescending big brother attitude, may not allow that.

I did an in-place upgrade to Win 8 CP from Win 7 SP1; and all has by and large been fine.

Before, Adobe Reader X 10.1.2 worked fine, but it wouldn't update to the latest verson claiming the package was corrupt. I then, perhaps foolishly, uninstalled Adobe Reader X with a view to just installing 10.1.3. Unfortunately it won't. It says it can't read the AcroRead.msi setup file in c:\Programdata\Adobe\Setup\(long string) and to verify that the file is there (which it is).

Anyone else run into anything similar?

Cheers!

Jonathan

Simple.

Copy the .msi to another folder then run it from there.

Hi, I have a problem with installing Adobe Reader 7.0.7. I use Windows XP and had an older version of Reader installed already. I'm not sure if I uninstalled the older version when I attempted to install the newer version. When I tried installing Adobe Reader, I got the following error:

"Error 1402 Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\AcroIEHelper.AcroIEHlprObj.1\CLSID.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel."

After clicking OK, the installation rolls back. I did some looking around on the internet and found something that suggested renaming the key in Registry but it will not allow me to access it. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can get Reader successfully installed on my computer? Until then, I cannot read anything that is Adobe Reader. Thank you!

A:Adobe Reader will not function or even install

Lisa288, I suggest that you look at programs installed in control panel and if anything resembles adobe reader, uninstall it.
also, make sure that you delete the adobe directory in your programs folders.

that works as long as you don't have other adobe products installed.

I recently attempted to download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.
The Download proceeded normally but the Install was stopped with the message"Trojan Horse Generic 12.ACVL detected".
I moved the file to the Virus vault but now wonder what to do next. Is there really a Trojan Horse imbedded in Acrobat Reader (their web site doesn't have any information) or is AVG (Free Version 8.0) seeing things?
Anyone have any clues?
Thanks

Hi there
Adobe reader XI seem to have problems installing in Windows 8.1

To get round - choose Windows 7 <====== in the OS and select adobe reader X. This works fine. Yes select Windows 7 as the OS !!!

Note this is for WINDOWS 8.1 RTM.

I suspect the adobe reader XI problem might also be something to do with the enhanced security features in IE11 - can't be bothered to even begin to attempt to debug this as version X is fine for what I need.

Cheers

I updated to Adobe Reader 9.2 from Adobe's website this morning and when I got home, it said Adobe updater needs attention. It was offering to install 8.1.4. Maybe because I haven't restarted yet. I thought that was weird. Several problems trying to open a pdf file after updating. Said tab has been restored and kicked me out of reader a few times. Finally it let me into the PDF and said it was parsing the data or configuring the file for reading or somesuch. I hope it stops behaving badly after a restart. paj692

A:Solved: I'm using Adobe Reader 9.2 why is the updater offering Adobe Reader 8.1.4

Adobe has released some information about some big security holes in Adobe software: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/

You can turn off the updater as follows:
1. Load ADobe Reader
2. Go to Edit, Preferences
3. Select Updater at the bottom
4. Select 'Do not down or install updates automatically'
5. Click OK

Hi DanFleck1, Welcome to SF,

You might follow this article from Adobe "Error 1303: Installer has insufficient privileges" or "Error 1304: Error writing to file" when you install Acrobat 6, 7, 8 or 3D (Windows) follow the portion for Windows Vista that should work for Windows 7 as well

If this is in the wrong forum, I appologize and please move it.

I just finished a fresh install of Vista Ultimate x64 and after setting up my drivers, I installed Adobe Reader 9.0. To my disappointment, I have no thumbnail previews of .pdf files. I've double checked to make sure "always use thumbnail instead of icons" was checked in the control panel and checked everything else I could think of. I even went back and uninstalled 9.0 and reinstalled 8.0 to see if it was a problem with the latest update. Both the installs were done with standalone installers. This is my first x64 install (using x86 Vista previously), is this an issue with x64 Vista or Adobe? Anyone else experience this? I looked at ditching Adobe altogether and using Foxit, but it apparently doesn't do thumbnail previews either. Man the stuff you take for granted after a while...

A:Fresh Vista x64 install + Adobe Reader 9.0 = No thumbnail previews

I've just noticed (thanks to this post) that I, too, have no thumbnails from PDF files (on the same setup). This is most likely linked to the problem in Outlook 2007, where the PDF Preview Handler has a problem with Vista x64.

This is a problem from Adobe's PDF Reader. I've seen suggestions of uninstalling it and getting Foxit PDF Reader instead, but I prefer the Adobe reader - it's much more slimlined and the new version is so fast to load (with Foxit, they seem to every button you could possibly put in the program on one toolbar: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rea...eader23scr.jpg).

I'm getting this error on installation of Adobe Reader. It tells me to run the installation in Administrator mode. I've followed many Google threads and as best I can tell, all advise to "unhide" the Administrator login (which I have done with net user administrator /active:yes) and then restart and login as the Administrator and do the install.

I have done that and still get the 1303 error telling me to run as Administrator.

I have given full rights to c:Application Data\Adobe, c:\Users\All Users\Adobe and c:\Users\All Users\NOS.

I have done everything with exception of tinkering with UAC, which I really don't want to get into.

Anybody solved this yet? (I have searched TSG and not able to find anything).

If it's an old program that installs an old version of Adobe Reader as part of it, leave both the old and new versions of Adobe Reader installed.

If you uninstall the old version and leave just the new version installed, that old program may not work properly.

Hiya

Are you still having this problem?

If so, when you reinstalled Adobe Reader 6.0, is it working okay? When you downloaded version 7, was it direct from the Adobe website, or the updater in the Help menu of Adobe Reader?

If it was the website, did you install the Yahoo and PhotoShop extras? If so, unless you really want them, you can untick them.

There are some updates that require version 7.0 already installed, such as 7.0.1. You didn't try them did you?

I have a Fuji Xerox printer, type CM205f. Everything worked normally, including scanning from the printer to computer/USB.

This morning, I installed Acrobat Reader DC, and printed out some pdf files. Afterwards, I wanted to scan from the printer to computer (USB connection), but the scanning function did not work anymore. It seemed as if it had no connection to the PC anymore.

I used the Fuji Xerox software (Express Scan Manager) to set up the connection to the PC again, but afterwards it still did not work.

The only thing that I can think of is the installation of Acrobat Reader DC. Is it possible that this installation is the cause of the problem? If yes, what should I do to get the scanning function back?

Thanks for all the help.

A:Foxit Reader works fine -- uninstalling Adobe pdf reader

I've used Foxit reader, but it wasn't totally compatible with Adobe Acrobat created PDF files, but in most cases it sufficed quite well. As for Photoshop replacements, there are a few others available and PaintShop Pro is not a bad alternative, though when Corel bought it out initially, it completely stuffed things up. I understand that it's fixed a lot of update issues etc in that time and it's leagues cheaper than Photoshop.

Just installed Reader XI (11) on a perfectly fine laptop running 7 x64. Holy cow, Reader XI is WAY slow doing ANYTHING--not just opening the program or PDF's, but even clicking in its menus. I found this thread re: Reader X/10 and followed Spengler's advice--disabled "Protected Mode." That's the ticket. After making that change, Reader is behaving properly, no long lags for every action.

In Reader XI, go to Edit/Preferences/Security (Enhanced), and uncheck "Enable Protected Mode at startup." (I also unchecked "Enable Enhanced Security" but that may not be necessary.)

A:Adobe Reader XI SLOW in Windows 7 64-bit

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

I have to use Adobe's PDF reader, but most people can pick a faster lighter weight reader.
http://www.filehippo.com/download_sumatrapdf/
You can install that along side of Adobe's reader and see if you like it.

You are putting yourself at risk by turning that feature off within Adobe's reader.

Those who are willing to operate a computer online without any antivirus software installed generally think that they have a handle on how to be safe. Those same people can usually figure out how to make things work (since they have such a good understanding of applications). I suggest to those people that they use IE10 with 64bit tabs enabled to make better use of ASLR.

If you must stick with Adobe's PDF reader, then you will have to figure out how to get to some PDF files since Adobe only has a 32bit IE plug-in.

Edit: Adobe reader's speed is fine on my Dell - your specs are better than mine, so there might be something else going on with your computer.

The following occurred on an HP laptop running Windows Professional and I Adobe Pro Reader under 7 Issue(s) Windows find it quite peculiar and can't figure out what's going on nor how to fix it The machine had Adobe Reader XI installed on it and an attempt was made to Adobe Reader Issue(s) under Windows 7 Pro update it to Adobe Reader DC I've done this on multiple machines as an install over with zero issues Things were going along swimmingly and even the desktop icon had been switched then when the install was nearly finished it failed After this there was no record of Adobe Reader in Control Panel- gt Programs and Features at all as I was intending to force an uninstall at this point When I attempted to install Adobe Reader DC again it failed quickly saying that a more recent version was installed which leaves me with nothing from Adobe for reading PDFs This would not be a huge problem under normal circumstances but the laptop is used by someone who's blind in conjunction with the JAWS software and it only plays well and reliably with Adobe Reader I even tried rolling the machine back to a Restore Point from several days ago That didn't help either It looked like Adobe Reader XI had been restored but now when one attempts to open a PDF document an Unknown Software message is presented Any guidance on this issue would be appreciated

I am still having problems with Adobe Reader and even Adobe Acrobat.

Acrobat 9.3 crashes when I use it on my home computer. Opening any PDF file will result with a crash.

With Internet Explorer, I have to run IE as an admin in order for it to work properly and not crash a tab when I open up a PDF file.

Yes I know I can use Foxit Reader or whatever other alternative there is but I feel that Reader and Acrobat should work, period. Is there any other workaround for this?

Hi there
The install fails on Windows 8.1 -- BUT you can install the previous version (Version 10) - just select WINDOWS 7 as the OS from the adobe install screen (yes Windows 7 not Windows 8) and select Version 10 in the reader (select previous versions). If you select Windows 8 you don't get the choice to install the previous version and the install fails.

Version 10 works just fine on Windows 8.1 - I don't like the Ms supplied Metro PDF reader -and I've used adobe reader for so long there's no reason why I shouldn't continue to use it.

Cheers

Look in Add/Remove Programs to see if other versions are installed . . if so, uninstall everything and try again. You could have a corrupted install file . . you can download another one here

A:Adobe reader (Moved from Windows 8 forum)

How far Adobe Reader is zoomed in when you view it does not have an effect on how it prints.

Before printing, select Print Preview to see how the document will look before printing. If you need to adjust the document there are options to do so when you select File > Print.

I think the problem you have now is not really Windows 8 problem. I've using a lot of Adbobe products, and along the line, I've encountered with installation.
I suggest you download the Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs
run this tool and try to re-install Adobe Reader.

EDIT: Make sure to turn off any Anti Virus software before installation.

Hope this helps.

Earlier today I was trying to open a PDF document that wouldn't open (I believe I was on Reader 7...), so I go to the Adobe website to download/install Adobe Reader 9. I get to the point where the computer needs to restart to complete the operation...upon restart I get the "Blue Screen of Death" after about a second of Windows XP trying to load.

I've uploaded a screen capture of the error here:

Problem now is that I can't seem to get past that screen, not even in safe mode -- the same screen will pop up and the computer will reset whenever Windows is trying to load.

Any help would be much appreciated!

It takes 2 minutes to open a one-page PDF. When double clicking on the PDF, Adobe reader opens but the PDF content doesn't display. It says 'Not responding' for about 2 minutes before it can display the content of the PDF. The PDF is just a one page file. It can be opened by other versions of adobe reader instantly. It can also be opened instantly on another PC which is also W7 64 and Adobe reader X.
WHat can be the possible conflict between reader and my W7?

I looked at the list of sub-forum topics and don't know where I should put this so I will try Discussion a Mod is free to move it to a better place I have a Samsung Series running Windows Home Prem and Norton There was a problem when I attempted to boot up this morning -- Windows attempted to fix the problem but did not succeed -- offered me the option to restore to an earlier version which I declined as I will suspect that might return to when I got the notebook which means I will lose installed programs such as Office etc So after that I can boot software such Office Adobe; Installer runs Cannot and start as Windows up but the problem is that it automatically starts up Windows installer First I receive a QuickBooks message to 'Please Run setup exe to Install QuickBooks' Unfortunatey I cannot locate setup exe in the QuickBooks Program Files folder -- although there is a setup dll When I click the Start icon and 'Search Program or Files' for quot setup exe quot I get 'No Items Match Your Search ' But the real problem is that when I attempt to open any of my Office programs Word Excel PowerPoint Windows Installer opens telling me it Cannot start software such as Office and Adobe; Windows Installer runs is 'Preparing To Install' but after attempting to do so gives a 'Fatal Error During Installation' message Cannot run Adobe either Just in case the QuickBooks install is causing the problem I have no reason to think that is the case -- I Cannot start software such as Office and Adobe; Windows Installer runs downloaded a trial version yesterday and it worked ok I was going to Uninstall it but when I open Control Panel gt Uninstall A Program there is nothing showing for Intuit QuickBooks which I suppose is logical since it is asking me to run the setup exe to finish the installation I will also mention that when I attempted to shut down the notebook yesterday mid-day it went into an auto Windows update screen -- but I had to shut it down because of where I was However it worked ok after that so I do not have a specific reason to figure anything happened at that point but will mention it anyway After my initial boot-up problem this morning I am able to reboot windows with no problem but cannot open Office Adobe etc I am still able to use it for Explorer and Wordpad Admittedly I'm not very tech savvy but I would like to figure out what the problem and solution is to this issue I hope this explanation is not too longwinded figure more detail is better Thanks for any assistance

A:Cannot start software such as Office and Adobe; Windows Installer runs

Hey Lots2Learn, Welcome to Sevenforums!

In order for me to properly diagnose your problem I need to understand a few concepts which caused this.

What restore did you do? Was it a system restore or a Samsung recovery type program?

If presented how far did you restore back to and was the programs you are having problems accessing installed after the time you specified?

Do you have any installation setups or discs for the affected programs?

Many Thanks,
Josh!

A:Adobe Acrobat Professional & Adobe Reader

I can't answer all of your questions, but data on a CD is read only, you won't be able to save the edited file on that CD.
It can only be saved on the hard drive & then burned to CD again, if necessary.

I use both Adobe Reader 8 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0. Whenever I open a pdf document, it always defaults to the Adobe Photoshop Elements. Is there a way to change the default so it opens with Adobe Reader? Thanks.

A:Adobe Photoshop Elements And Adobe Reader

Navigate to where you store your pdf files.
Right click on one of these files and a dialogue will open inviting you to nominate which prog you wish to open that file.
In that dialogue, scroll down to "choose a program", when that opens,?scroll?to?Adobe?Reader,?click?on?that?and?then?click?on?"always?use?this?program?to?open?this?type?pf?file"
Click?ok?out?of?that,?problem?should?be?solved.?

Win Professional x EMET amp Adobe Acrobat Reader were working together Not sure what my EMET mitigation settings were for Reader Upgraded 5.5 to Reader causes Reader is if in 11 fail Acrobat Mode" DC EMET "Protected enabled Adobe to EMET and now I get a message when launching Adobe Reader saying quot Adobe Acrobat Reader DC cannot be opened in Protected Mode due to an incompatibility with your system configuration Would you like to open Adobe Acrobat Reader DC with Protected Mode disabled quot If I select open with Protected Mode disabled Adobe still crashes for certain operations My default EMET settings for AcroRd exe are everything checked except ASR If I disable all mitigations in EMET Adobe Reader works normally If I return mitigations to default and then additionally disable EAF the problem persists although I found a post saying that fixed the issue in earlier versions EMET 5.5 causes Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 11 to fail if "Protected Mode" is enabled in Reader of EMET Question Is there a custom set of mitigations that enable Reader to work or should I disable Reader mitigations in EMET or should I disable Protected Mode in Reader or should I use a different PDF viewer like SumatraPDF Thanks

Hi Guys,
I was thinking if anyone can help me with this.
I would like to know if there is any setting under Group Policy preferences to set Adobe reader as the default pdf reader.
Server :  Windows server 2012 Standard
Client : Windows 8
Windows 8 comes with a WIndows PDF reader and we do not want this to be the default program.
Any suggestions to set Adobe reader to default ? or either disabling windows reader ? Many Thanks !!

Cheers,
Pavan

I was working on my home computer yesterday and got a notice saying that Adobe Reader wanted to update. I allowed it to update and for the first time I realized that I have PDF Reader on my computer as well. Can someone tell me if there is any difference between the two? Should I go ahead and uninstall one of them? Both are the free version but they do take up space. Thanks.

A:What's the difference between PDF Reader and Adobe Reader

Adobe Reader (current version is 11.0.13) is the most popular and most used PDF reader out there, but there are several others.
It's one of the "must have" programs that I install in every computer that I own or service.
Most of the on-line guides, manuals, etc. are in PDF format, so you need a PDF reader such as Adobe Reader to be able to open and view them.
