Preferred Solution: Random Internet disconnections

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

sounds like interference.

what is your connection {dial-up, ADSL, cable, satellite} ?

Are you using a WiFi connection to your router?

Perhaps you need a more recent driver or firmware update.

For the past month my internet seems to be randomly dropping out. After Reseting my modem, router, and adapter it would sometimes come back up.

I reset my router to Factory settings and re configured the whole thing.
I called my ISP and had them monitor my connection for drops.

They did not detect any drop so it has to be on my end. I usually have a Voip running. Either Ventrillo or Teamspeak. These are where i most regularly notice the disconnects.

I started uninstalling programs that i did not use anymore. I downloaded and reinstalled new drivers and had some success. Today however i started experiencing the disconnects again.

Its a realtek Ethernet adapter on a gigabyte board. GA-EP45T-UD3LR

I have ordered a new router to see if thats the issue. if not does anyone have any suggestions that i should try

thanks

A:Random Internet Disconnections ( Not Modem )

If not, then the adapter would be next. Wireless adapter I presume?

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save to your Desktop.alternate download siteDSS will do the following:Create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, Internet Cache Files, and empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for an analyst to review.Automatically run HijackThis. It will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have it installed. So if HijackThis is not installed and DSS prompts you to download it, please answer yes.You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges when using.Close all applications and windows.Double-click on dss.exe to run it and follow the prompts. If your anti-virus or firewall complains, please allow this script to run as it is not

Please ensure that you allow it permission to do so.-- If you get a warning from your anti-virus while DSS is scanning, please allow DSS to continue as the scan is not harmful. If you already preformed the steps above We still need to see the current state of the machine fresh scan and logs are still necessaryclick on Start, click on Run copy and paste the following in bold in the open window and then click OK"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /configThis will open up DSS configuration click on Check Allclick ScanDSS will now run again when finishedPlease post back both logs that open in notepadMain txt and extra txtNextPlease do a scan with Kaspersky Online ScannerNote: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs. The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition files. After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My ComputerThis will start the program and scan your system. The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run.Once the scan is complete, click on View scan reportNow, click on the Save Report as button.Save the file to your desktop.Copy and paste that information in your next post.

I've been having this problem for a few days now, on one of the computers in my network. The computer having the problem is an HP Pavillion Vista, the router I use with it is a Linksys WUSB300N. Every other computer in the network is fine, including the other HP Pavillion Vista with a WUSB300N.

The problem is that if I'm running a program that requires a stronger internet connection, (ex. Aion, WoW, even using HD on youtube) my internet will switch from "Local and Internet" to "Local Only". As I'm not completely sure running said programs causes this problem, I've noticed it to happen mainly when I use them.

Something I'm noticing (Might be no connection at all) is that if I leave the computer on for a long period of time, the internet situation gets better.

Any Ideas?

A:Possible Fix For Random Disconnections

I may be going down the wrong trail, Rick, but that seems overcomplicated. Maybe it was neccessary in XP, I hav'n't used that for some years. I am surprised that MS give directions for "under the hood " customising, rather than through the GUI, which they themselves almost pioneered!
This is what I do when I customise after an install.
Open Control Panel (Small icon view)
Open Device manager
Open Network Adapters and right click on your default Adapter.
Select Properties.
Open the "Power Management" Tab
Alter the optional preferences to your desires.

I click "Allow this device to wake the computer" Then Untick the box above "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" (The previous box will then grey out, but still retains the altered setting)
Ok the lot.

A:Random Disconnections from Wireless on One PC

would you post the following tests when its working OK and then repeat ALL the tests when it disconnects and make sure you also tells which tests posted are for what condition also include the xirrus screen shots

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if separate, the make and exact model of the modem

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

I have a few laptops, a desktop and a xbox 360, sometimes the same 2 laptops and my 360 disconnect from the internet all at the same time but the desktop and other laptop don't and are fine, they all connect through wireless.

I have since bought a Wireless N USB adapter for my laptop and it will now not disconnect when the 360 and other laptop disconnect, so I'm not sure if there is some kind of hardware conflict or the wireless adapters are outdated and haven't had the latest firmware etc.

My router has the latest firmware and is some D-Link router, i can get the exact model number if you need but I'm just wondering why I get these random disconnections.

To manually resolve the problem I just restart the router and modem and everything works fine apart from lag on the xbox 360 in-game, however this has become rather an hassle.

Thanks.

A:Random Wireless disconnections

Hi

random disconnections can be caused by heavy router traffic from nearby routers, such as neighbors etc, try going into the config and changing the channel it works on, you may have to try several times before finding a stable link.

Also live on the xbox can flood the router, causing slowdowns and lockups, as can downloading via things like utorrent and other torrent programs,

A:Sudden and Random WiFi Disconnections

Hi there Ryan

Wireless technology is nowhere near perfect and I have experienced so many compatibility issues with wireless.
There are two things that is most likely to work.

---One, update your laptops's wireless card drivers. Goto this site then select your OS (Windows 8) and expand the wireless link. There is either a Intel or Atheros card. Select the correct one and download. Once installed, restart and try the wireless.
http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/U46E/HelpDesk_Download/
---Two, there is a compatibility issue with your router and wireless card. Log into the router and change the wireless authentication type. Under wireless or advanced and wireless (WEP, WPA, WPA2).
Change the type and remember the wireless password that you type.
**When changing this your wireless might not connect due to the settings that have changed. In windows 8 goto the wireless network list, find your network and Right click on it. Select Forget this network. Now try and connect.
**WEP is the most compatible option but less secure.

Log into the router by typing this address into your internet browser: http://192.168.2.1
Try one of the following usernames and passwords:
Admin / Admin Admin/Password
admin/admin admin/password

Hope this helps...

Hello, from the beginning of playing World of Warcraft under Windows Vista 64-bit, (which is about 3 months), I have been having random disconnections. Sometimes I get logouts as often as once an hour or so, and sometimes I can play for many hours before it disconnects again. Anyone else been having the same problem? Or does anyone have any possible advice that might work?

By the way, I have a dual boot machine, with Win XP on the smaller drive, and I never have any disconnections in WoW there.

My machine:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 / Asus P5B mb / 2 Gb Corsair DDR2-667 / XFX Nvidia 8800GTX / Seagate Barracuda 320Gb /

Play wow under xp. It has had problems under vista. If you have a duel booting system it makes sense to use the os that works better with the program.

So ive been experiencing very high pings since the start of this year at (seemingly) random times. Ive been thinking it might be my provider, but recently found that my windows (8) taskmanager showed under the performance tab that the DNS name displayed as domain.invalid

I remember that i tried to fix this issue before and made some changes to my ipv4 adress: ( since my internet also disconnects completely for about a minute or so for up to even 6 or more times per hour.
my ipv6 adress looks totally random (ff:00e250 smt like this) i dont know if this is relevant or related but perhaps someone can help me out here.

my Thanks,

Hello everyone.

My name is Joel, and I'm having a pretty serious internet disconnecting problem. Alright, first of all, this isn't a desktop/laptop problem. Same problem on multiple laptops and an Xbox 360. Alright then:

ISP: Cal.net (http://www.cal.net/connection_services/cal-net-wireless-internet-broadband.php or http://www.edcwisp.com/index.php)

The problem is constant disconnection and reconnection. The time between disconnections is usually 1-3 minutes, and the disconnection times can last anywhere from 5 seconds on. For surfing the web, it isnít that much of a problem, but downloading video is usually a pain and online gaming is sometimes impossible. The problem usually lessens during the morning, and gets progressively worse until after midnight, where it gets better again. I am wondering if someone can identify the problem, and give some insight into what the solution could be. I am happy to provide any info to help you out. Thank you.

A:Internet Disconnections

You're first stop should be to the ISP Support Center. If you have this problem on all your computers with that connection, the problem is most likely with the ISP.

I have a WRT54G2 Linksys router. I had problems with random disconnecting from the internet throughout the day. The disconnects would only be for like 10 secs and then automatically reconnect. For example I am playing a game and then it randomly disconnects so I have to relog in but I can relog in almost immediately every time. I thought it was my router and talked to linksys and they sent me a new router. A day into my new router it does it again. I try the pinging thing to google. 66.102.7.99 and its saying that it is timing out and I have a 100% packet loss which I know is not good. Any help here would be most appriecated. Thanks

What do you mean by "DSL through my cable/TV provider"? Mainly I'm interested in knowing whether you have DSL or cable internet.

What is the brand and model of your modem? Same info for router if you have one, please.

What cables were replaced--coax? phone? ethernet?

Hello I need some help with my internet disconnection issue I get - internet disconnections every day at random for about - minutes I've had the issue for about - years but Verizon never manages to fix them each time I ask for help I specifically have Verzion DSL as my subscription I also have the ActionTec GT WNV model as a combined router and modem from Verizon I have a desktop that is connected by wire and a laptop that is wirelessly connected When the internet goes down both the desktop Internet 1-2 a Disconnections, per day and the laptop lose internet connection I'm assuming its not a problem with my two Internet Disconnections, 1-2 per a day computers then because both lose connection at the Internet Disconnections, 1-2 per a day same time I have replaced my filter splitter and other cables as instructed by Verizon customer support but that's as far as it goes with them helping me Since I'm a computer science and networking student I'd also like an explanation of what could be a problem with my internet connection Internet Disconnections, 1-2 per a day so that I can at least understand it even if we aren't able to fix it Thanks

I am experiencing frequent disconnections from my ISP. I have experienced this before on an old machine - but am finding the same problems with the new one. The old PC ran XP Home and the problem revolved around an 'event' error and a little patch was used to increase the number of events before disconnection.

I thought with the new machine running XP Media I may have escaped this - but it appears not.

I wonder if anyone could point me towards the patch which I used previously - sadly any memory I had of it went with the HD which died with the old PC along with my copy of the file.

Thanks in anticipation.

A:Internet Disconnections

For it to use the same patch would really be a coincidence and with all of the patches out there it would be very difficult for anybody here to just pick it out of mid air just like that especially with no information except that you are getting frequent disconnections. There are a ton of reasons that you can get disconnected and the way to start troubleshooting this is to get as much information as possible. What we will need are any error messages you get and the correct ones and write them down also some system Spec's like make and model of computer, processor etc. as a matter of fact if you ran Belarc and copy and pasted the results to this thread it would be very helpful.

When you do this I would like you to go thru and take out anything like the Windows Key Code for your version of Windows or just replace with "X's" and anything else you think might be to revealing.

Hi all,

I have had my Sony Vaio for about 2+ years and have had DSL through my cable/TV provider for about the same time.

I am just now experiencing problems where I am on the internet or playing multi-player games and I get disconnected within 20 minutes of being on line. The only way I can get back on line is if I reboot the computer entirely. This happens constantly.

My cable provider replaced the cables only and after they left, I ran into the same problem.

I ran a virus scan and I don't show anything on the computer.

Somebody from my work had mentioned that it could be the Network Card. Is there any validity to this? I checked the functionality of the network before and after this happens and everything checks out.

Could it be the modem? The cable company is saying no.

Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Thomas

A:Internet Disconnections

This happens to me sometimes. It usually happens when I go on my computer in the morning, after its been on all night. When the computer has been inactive for a while, it usually shuts off services to save power consumption, and usually the service it used to shutoff on my computer was the one that allowed internet usage. So the only way to have that service start again was for me to reboot the computer.

So my advice is to actually shutoff your computer at night or put it in to hibernate mode instead of leaving it on all night. Now that I changed the power settings on my computer to have the computer hibernate after being inactive for 2 hours, the internet has stopped shutting off at night.

I'd need to see an example of the security and encryption plus the wireless cannel you are using.

Xirrus WiFi inspector is a good program for this. If you can post a screen shot of the read out you get from Xirrus it would be helpful.

Hey guys, for the past couple months now i've been getting frequent internet disconnections on my computer, lasting for up to about 2 minutes at a time. It is most noticeable when playing online games due to the frustrating nature of a disconnect, but it also happens with regular internet browsing. Other computers in my house claim to be working normally during the disconnects. I am also hardwired into the modem, albeit through the router. My system specs are below.

Mainboard : EVGA 132-CK-NF78
Chipset : nVidia nForce 780i SLI SPP
Processor : Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2400MHz
Physical Memory : 4096MB (2 x 2048 DDR2-SDRAM )
Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GSO
Hard Disk : Seagate ST315003 41AS SCSI Disk Device (1500GB)
Network Card : Ralink Technology RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI
Operating System : Windows 7 Home Premium Home Edition Media Center 6.01.7600 (64-bit)

Just wondering if anyone knew where to start in troubleshooting this. Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone.

I'm connected to the internet via a modem router of a LAN. Lately, I'm suffering a lot of disconnections to the internet. They don't last too long but it's quite annoying when you're precisely surfing the web. I contacted my ISP and they conveniently say they are not aware of the issue in my area. So, I'm trying to send them a complete report of those events.

I wonder whether there's a way to track those disconnections by means of some tool of the event viewer or any other administrative tool. I guess so but don't know which one.

In case there's some way to do it, it would be important to know whether there's a way to pinpoint the disconnections origin, I mean, to know and record whether they takes place in the LAN (from the router inwards) or in the WAN (from the router outwards).

Thanks in advance.

A:Intermittent internet disconnections

Could be RF interferance from cordless phone, other wireless network on the same or adjacent channel, etc.
Main reason for having the router up high is to have a clearer path between the router and the computers. This one is in my kitchen and there is one spot where I would have a refrigerator directly between the router and computer if the router wasn't 5 feet of the floor.

Directions from etaf on downloading, using, and posting results of Xirrus WiFi Inspector to check wireless networks near you.

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/Products/Wi-Fi-Inspector.aspx
Direct link to the program is here http://wpc.475a.edgecastcdn.net/0047...etup.1.2.0.exe

{If the above link does not work heres another link http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/fid,77196-order,4/download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

A user guide is available here http://www.xirrus.com/Products/Wi-Fi...uide1-2-0.aspx

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.
Full details are here http://library.techguy.org/wiki/TSG_...g_a_Screenshot

Note:
For a reliable (or robust as the Xirrus user guide says) wireless connection you need a signal of about -70 dBm or better.

If you are using the Mac OS then use http://www.istumbler.net/

I ve read many topics about this in the forums already Internet/network Disconnections but none seemed to have solved the situation Once in awhile around every hour the network bubble would appear saying that it has been disconnected Then Internet/network Disconnections it would connect again Internet/network Disconnections but the internet would not be able to work About minutes later the internet connection is restored I have tried everything from removing our cordless phone to removing ALL our phones changing the phone filter calling the ISP anything The only thing that works so far is changing our router back to the old one However the old one is rather slow and I would prefer to be using the newer one Here are some background info PCs and a Notebook are connected to the router Everytime the internet disconnects all of it would disconnect at the same time One of the PCs are connected to the router by wire and the others are connected wirelessly The quot new quot router is a Linksys Wireless Router WRT G which has a Mpbs connection speed The other PC connects with a Linksys Wireless Adapter WUSB G which also has a Mbps connection speed The notebook uses a built in wireless connection which I think is Mpbs Our modem is from DLink but I m not sure about its model number Everytime I use the PC which is wirelessly connected I would not get disconnected no matter how long I use it However once the PC which is connected by wire is switch on the connection would break sometimes even within minutes The notebook has not have any signs of disturbing the connection yet Both PCs and the notebook are rather new The PC connected by wire has a Ghz processor MB Ram MB graphics card I m not sure about its network card but it is very new The other PC also has the same specs but the adapter which connects to the router is connected to the USB ports The USB ports are not Highspeed USB ports Is there anyway that I can find out where the problem lies I will try to provide as many specs of my network or computers if needed Thank you for helping nbsp

You've already troubleshot a lot, and maybe already these also:

If you have DSL, check page 52 of your router's manual, "15. My DSL Service's PPPoE is always disconnecting."

Also check your router's dhcp lease time (is it one hour?).

Try to compare all the settings between your old and new router.

Disable the rouer's wireless signal, and see if the problem still happens.

Does the system stay connected to Internet when using Ethernet?

All you describe points to one or more -
- ESET firewall
- wifi card
- wifi driver
- wifi signal strength

Simply disabling the firewall is not enough as boot and kernel mode drivers continue to run. Remove the product. You can always reinstall later.

Let's see what WMI has to say about wifi. Download zip file, extract EXE file - save to Desktop. RIGHT-click on EXE file, select "Run as Administrator".

2 Notepads will open - one behind the other. Save both as text files.

Zip them up and attach to next post.

This is what happens:
I start Internet Explorer and it doesn't connect for some reason. I unplug and re-plug my router + high speed. Then I try again and it works. But after a certain amount of time, my internet disconnects and this is f**king annoying when you play FPS games like Enemy Territory say for example you're making the Tank barrier or bridge and you get disconnected, how would you like it? You wouldn't would you? So please help me out here. I'm just 11 years old and don't know much about computers so, some help would be nice :hotbounce

I'm having problems with a wireless connection it will work for about half an hour sometimes, but is usually slow at times and will often disconnect for a while and takes quite a while to connect properly again.

Have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Belkin N Wireless Router - F5D8233-4v3(01)
WEP security thing..

DW1525 (802.11n) WLAN PCIe Card
Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet

The wireless adaptor was recently changed which significantly improved the connection but it's still no where near as good as when it was wired, which I can't use anymore.

Does any of this seem incompatible or something? Wasn't sure if it might be a problem with the router or the type of security being used?

Greetings.

A well known problem is the fact that many manufacturers have not yet caught up with Windows 10. Case in point: many machines carrying the RealTek PCIe Gigabit ethernet adapters will periodically drop connection for no discernible reason. The only remedy is a reboot of the computer.

I recently worked on a laptop (ASUS X550 series) that was a Win10 upgrade from Win8.1 - the network-dropping symptom was a constant problem. After several fruitless tries through the Microsoft forums/troubleshooters, I decided to go to the the source.

After reloading a new, updated RealTek driver, the problem has been solved. Hope this helps anyone with similar symptoms.

I'm using a Lenovo Y 560 using a wireless connection to an Apple Airport extreme. I have been using this set up for a few months without any problems. However, recently, my computer has been disconnecting at random time for 30-60 seconds. There isn't any lag before or after and this occurs when gaming or browsing. The weird thing is, there are about 15 other PCs and Macs using the airport and none of them are experiencing this problem. I used my 'one key recovery' button and restored my computer to the factory default and updated/reinstalled all wireless drivers and the problem still persists. At this point I'm stumped, any suggestions?

My internet is frequently disconnected. I discovered that after a disconnection if the PC is rebooted the internet connection is restored. This suggests that I have some problem with the PC. I have run sfc/scannow and chkdsk c:/f this has not helped.

I also see another problem In WindowsLivemail12 at times I get this message "A problem occurred while trying to open this message
A problem has occurred Please try again"

This also goes back after rebooting, sometimes once at other times twice.

My question is what can I do to correct or vindicate my PC

Please, can somebody tell me why my telephone rings whilst I am connected to the net, and this in turn disconnects me.

Could it be a line problem, a handset problem, or a computer problem? This only appears to have begun since I installed Service Pak 2. Sometimes I can remain online for 3/4 hours, other times like just now only 5 mins.

I am becoming deperate..Technical Support Centre offers alternatives but nothing is working. I am having Telstra come to investigate the problem but like all Government Depts this takes time.

Can anyone Hel me? Thankyou.

So I downloaded Maple Story and installed it. After that, I downloaded the latest patch and installed it (The patch was released a couple of days after downloading the initial game). When I installed the patch, I closed the installer and my internet connection disconnected at least 6 times in 20 minutes. I think it has to do with Maple Story messing with my wireless adapter, but I wanted to be sure it's not any kind of infection. So I ran hijackThis! and saw something weird:

WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter

Is that good or bad? WormRadar.com itself sounds like a nasty website. Thanks for the help.

ALl right. Let me give you a little overview. I just got a Airlink101 Wireless Router AR315W and Warcraft III + The Frozen Throne. Now I made an account, set everything up, and I got disconnected. Well it is a wireless router so I expect to get disconnected once in a while, but I constantly get disconnected ONLY in the menu's and waiting for games. Once I start a game, I never even lag//slowdown. So I want to know if there is any way I'm able to somhow setup my router and everything else (firewall?) to keep the disconnections at a minimum. I tried Port Fowarding's Guides to setting up Warcraft III, and I checked my connection, and that's fine, so I don't see the problem.

Any help?

Im using a 2wire homeportal 1000sw wireless router and modem to access the internet with a pppoe broadband acount with my laptop. My laptop connects via a usb antenna also from 2wire to the router. For some reason when I use bitcomet, after a couple of minutes I loose internet connection. Even if i restart my computer the connection is not restablished. The only way to reconnect is to turn the router off and on again.
The problem usually ocurrs when I am having a high download rate.
Anybody know a possible solution for this? Thanks.

A:Bitcomet causes disconnections

have you got any advanced packet forwarding set up on said router? you mentioned that you are using pppoe with a broadband modem, perhaps you should try selecting 'DHCP' instead of pppoe. by far the most common broadband modem connections are configured by dhcp. how is your laptop's lan address set up (dhcp or static)?

I don't know what is the problem exactly, but my wireless network card several times tries to acquire IP thus disconnecting me. It usually takes from 3 to 15 seconds and then it disconnects. Sometimes it disconnects just after it connects.

I have 2 routers at home so i tested this and same thing happens, so i don't think that the problem is in the routers. And what is strange is that i created ad-hoc network on another laptop (i have 2) and as soon as i connected to it, everything was fine and no disconnections have been observed.

I removed drivers, reinstalled drivers several times and that didn't help. I have DHCP enabled in wireless connection properties and it is set up to obtain IP addresses automatically. My OS is Windows XP Home Edition.

I have been playing this game overnight. I think I have made it through the night 2 out of 30 days. It keeps disconnecting me from the server while others I play in the game with stay connected. So I believe it is related to my ISP or my Router. Is there something I can test with my router to see it is working properly to maintain connection?

Equipment:

WRT54G v.2 (this is fairly old)
Using the TOMATO Firmware
COMCAST in North East as ISP
Using Hard wire connection, not wireless to my laptop (HP nc8430)

I have had intermitent router issues where I have had to do a re-boot (basically a renew of the IP addres. This does not occur every time if disconnect)

Thoughts?

Hmm, where do I begin? Every few days, I experience a disconnect. Now, I'm not sure if it is a DNS issue or what.. I notice a little caution triangle with a "!" inside of it down upon the network symbol in my task bar's tool tray, next to the time.

Network Configuration:
-CenturyLink 660 Series Modem (bridged)
-NETGEAR WNDR3400 N600 Wireless dual band router

-2 Desktop PCs (1 hardwired and one wireless), A laptop or two
-One Xbox 360 (hardwired with static IP)

I use my modem as a bridge because I want to avoid Double NAT with my NETGEAR. Also, I do use Open DNS as my primary DNS for my router. Could that possibly be the issue?

Hi everyone, the problem I have is my wireless connection is frequently disconnecting (around 5 or 6 times in the last hour) and the problem has been going on for about 2 months.

It can work fine for hours, then once it disconnects, it's very frequent.
Sometimes the green light on the router showing internet is off, and sometimes it's on.
Windows diagnostics says it's a DNS error, and sometimes it's firewall problem (turning it off doesn't solve anything).
DNS error occurs on my PS3 which is also connected wirelessly.
Obtain IP address and DNS server address is set to automatic.
Network driver is up to date.
Any additional info you need please ask. And thanks for any help

My PC is hardwired into a router which gives wireless connectivity to the rest of the house. I recently began to have problems with the connection dropping off intermittently. Diagnostics were negative and I contacted Dell (I have aDell XPS 7200). Tech support told me it was not harware but software. Vista SP1 checked out, the router checked out with a laptop wired in to the router so I disconnected the Broadcom onboard NIC and put in a Netgear ethernet card. My connection actually starts faster but I still get disconnected from the internet. When this happens I have local connection so I go to diagnostics and reset the local area connection. This connects me again to the internet until next time when I have to repeat the action. It's getting old and the connection may go in the middle of a download which is a real pain. Any suggestions???
Cheers

My dlink di624 router cuts off internet access to every computer randomly frequently. I learned that if you turn off the wireless...it doesn't do it anymore...but I need the wireless for the functionality of my laptop...all it does is disconnected from network...even though I'm about ten feet away from the router so I know the signal is okay. It does not just happen on the laptop...it happens on the desktops as well which are hardwired to the router.

Do you guys have any suggestions on how I can fix this...or just screw it and buy a linksys? If so recommend a good one that is wireless that doesn't have any problems...cause I spent about 70 bucks on this router a couple months ago.

This is a very odd problem I am experiencing with my wireless network Normally I'm the one to help solve problems - but this one has me stumped I'm currently running Windows XP Pro SP with a Netgear RangeMax NEXT Wireless Adapter WN B connected to a Netgear Wireless-N router WNR The wireless router is connected to an iConnectAccess ADSL modem that provides access to the Wireless disconnections network internet I'm using Netgear's software to find and connect to the wireless network The setup actually works perfectly fine most of the time The ONLY times I ever run into problems with it is when I'm doing a large download say - MB For some Wireless network disconnections reason while this large download is in progress usually at some point past the completed mark my entire machine seems to drop off the network and become disconnected I cannot repair the connection and it cannot find any wireless networks to connect to at all normally it detects mine plus another - in the close area it's as if the wireless card in my PC decides that it's had enough downloading and goes into a coma or something This only happens when downloading large files Though I've also had it happen once or twice after online gaming for a couple of hours too The machine can be connected to the network for days without issues if all I'm doing is internet browsing But of the time I try a large download of a game demo or something boom - Down it goes When it happens the only way to restore my connection to the network is to reboot my machine However after the connection problem occurs Windows will not shut down correctly when attempting a reboot just hanging on the quot Logging off quot screen forcing me to hit the reset button to actually reboot the thing Once Windows boots back up the wireless connection is magically fixed Also the other machine that's connected to the network my wife's laptop has no issues at all and soldiers on It's left me wondering whether there's an issue with my wireless card seems unlikely as it works perfectly so long as I'm not halfway-downloading a large file or my wireless router again highly unlikely since the other machine on the network is fine or whether it's in fact some strange custom setting either the router or the card has that tells it to disconnect once x number of bytes has been transferred I've taken a look through the router's firmware and found nothing that seems to resemble a function like that and checking the properties of the wireless adapater as well as Netgear's software also doesn't reveal anything obvious I admit I'm completely stumped on this What on earth could be going on White Pointer

Hello,

I've been experiencing this problem for about two days now, and I just can't put my finger on it.

About every 10 - 30 minutes, the router (A BT Voyager 2110) will get disconnected from the Internet. Both the Internet and DSL lights go out.

I use an extension cable to reach the router, which is connected to the main BT socket on the other end. I thought that this might be causing the problem, but after connecting directly to the main socket, I'm still receiving the same disconnections.

I've tried it without any computers/devices connected to the network, all the filters are correctly placed, resetting the router, but to no avail. Even after contacting my ISP (Tiscali UK) and getting the phone line checked for faults, not solved.

Note: This problem only cropped up after there was a power cut in the area.

Any ideas what is causing this, and how to fix it?

A:Disconnections from game servers

any other devices on the router getting disconnected

I would try the following

Update the router firmwars - whats the make and model of router
Update the PC Network adapter - whats the make and model are you connected by Cable or wireless to router

its possible Norton could be causing the issue - is norton the limited version that supplied on the PC or is this something you have purchased ? - it maybe worth completely removing with the norton removal tool - but if its not the cause you will need the media and subscription keys information to put back on
if demo version , then the windows 7 firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials is a good combination - if you read the security forum

post back the following when its all working OK and then repeat all the tests when it disconnects

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{ipconfig /all}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results here
-> Start
-> (XP - enter the following in the RUN box)
cmd /k ipconfig /all
-> (Vista or Windows 7 - enter the following in the Search box)
cmd /k ipconfig /all

A black box will appear on the screen -
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy

then reply here and
control key + V to paste
------------------------------------------------------------------------
{Ping Tests}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

Type the following command
Ping {plus the number thats shown against the default gateway shown in above ipconfig /all}
Post back the results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter

Hi everyone This is my first post here so I apologize in advance for any newbie mistakes I ll start off with what specs I was able to gather computers - A PC wireless laptop running Windows XP with service pack a wireless disconnections, bad Increasingly mostly wireless Macintosh laptop running Mac OS X version and a desktop PC running Windows XP not sure on the SP I can t easily get to that computer and using a direct connection to the router Modem - Siemens SpeedStream Ethernet ADSL Modem Router - D-Link model WBR- Our ISP is AT amp T and the PC laptop and desktop usually use the AOL program for netsurfing This is going to be a very long story as it s been going on for several Increasingly bad disconnections, mostly wireless weeks now We ve done so many things and my memory isn t the greatest and I m not the most computer-smart person but I ll try to explain the best I can So it all started back when I noticed the PC laptop running very slow and sluggishly logging into AOL slowly having trouble loading pages etc Then it started to disconnect and reconnect quickly It was enough to knock me off AOL but I didn t notice any sort of quot your network connection was lost quot -type messages popping up from the net connection icon Still it was very annoying I asked my sister if she and her husband s desktop was having the same trouble and she said yes As for my Mac it was fine except for some trouble loading pages sometimes which would require shutting down the Safari browser or sometimes restarting the computer in order to get it loading correctly again Finally we got frustrated enough to call up AT amp T about it They said all their checks showed everything was fine Eventually it was decided that since it was very old we may need a new router so we bought one But while it helped some with the speed we kept disconnecting and it started popping up the quot network connection has been lost quot sorts of messages from the net connection icon We called again and they couldn t give any answer except that maybe our modem was bad It was old so we bought a new one Unfortunately the problem persisted It was sometimes required for me to use the Repair option to get the connection going again but other times it would get going on its own The directly-connected desktop seemed to be having even more trouble getting knocked off very frequently However my Mac didn t seem too much more affected than before besides occassionally dropping the connection but being quickly fixable So we called again and someone at AT amp T tested our DSL line and she reported that we did appear to have a problem Someone was sent out and he used a device to test the lines He said it was reading errors and that many packets were being dropped Our house had many old phonejacks and lines so he replaced those even some of the underground lines and replaced a box I guess the circuit box But still the problem persisted We called him again and he suggested disconnecting a phone that had a lot of interference when listened to which we did it was old and mostly unused anyway But still no improvement While poking around the computer I noticed that our default connection was set as AOL Dial-up which seemed wrong since we don t use dial-up So we contacted AT amp T again and someone walked us through several steps that included direct-connecting and deleting many things from the Network Connections window Eventually that all resulted in the wireless signal being detected and fine but we couldn t get online The person said they couldn t help us anymore and that we should call D-Link The person at D-Link had us direct-connect go to Start Run and then put it quot cmd quot which brought up a black box that listed information such as IP addresses She asked for those and then told us we needed a quot bridge quot We had to contact AT amp T again to do the first part and then contacted D-Link again to finish it The man on the phone that last time told us that our modem had been acting as ... I play an on-line multi player game and get disconnected quite frequently. The game is freelancer and supposed to be very light on bandwidth. Only a few kb during game play while i have a 2MB connection. During the disconnections other players do not experience any issues and I am at the same time able to open web pages in Internet Explorer.

I suspected the firewall and turned it off but am still experiencing the same issues. In my opinion there could be 2 possible reasons.

The connection itself is unstable.
Some other program is interfering spike hogging the bandwidth.

Could anyone please advise if there is any other possibility and how can i determine the cause of the problem.

A:Disconnections During Game Play

I have an idea you could try, I have never really encountered this problem before but I'd like to try and help anyways. If you have any Router configuration experience, then go into your router, and see if you have a "Game Mode" Or "NAT" settings, make sure it is open. This opens your router's ports for games, which is some cases could stop you from seeing certain games or people.

Only reason I see it being this is your router is blocking some things but not everything, so you don't get enough information, or it could be a Ping issue. Some game servers (Not saying it's justFreelancer, just, some servers in games) Have a setting where if you cross a certain ping, you are disconnected. (This is the spiking you talk about, if something takes all your bandwidth, you could have a high ping and disconnect from the server) If you find the game a little laggy while your in, try joining servers with pings under 150, I doubt this is the issue as you probably would have mentioned it.

One thing you could check is your Event Viewer and see if it tells you anything, being a Microsoft game they might have a code for it you can search up.

If you do not know how to go into the router settings, message me, and I will try and walk you through it, or for a faster way, add me to msn ( [email protected] ) Also if you do not know where Event Viewer is located, follow this:

Start, Right click My Computer, Manage, Event Viewer.

Freelancer should have had an error under Application. Check there and update here.

Hey guys, I'll just get straight into it. I got a custom made computer just under a year ago, and it's been working pretty much perfectly since then. Moderately recently though, I have been getting disconnected alot in Warcraft, usually in arena, thus causing a lot of losses and embarassment
I'm connected to my modem on this computer directly, so using ethernet or whatever, the modem is Speedtouch. I do not get disconnected while browsing the internet though, whereas another computer on the same network using an adapter does. I've tried repairing WoW, deleting the WTF, Interface and CACHE, all of it, and still the same problem.

If any of you guys can help, it would be greatly appreciated
(Ask if any more info is needed)
Thanks.

That would seem to be a network or modem problem.
WoW is sending and receiving allot of info in order to play, if your network has a history of losing "packets" or random drops, WoW will drop the connection.

Does it happen most in arena? Or is it that you are just playing more arena now so it seems to happen there only. Can you play fine if you don't enter arenas? Play a day or two without doing a battle ground and see if your dropped.

You on a cable or other "hard wired" internet connection?.. (The part that leaves your house)
My sister has a broad band dish on her house, and gets dropped at random times too.. Over the air signals are subject to all sorts of interference.
Also, never hurts to defrag your hard drive. Disable extra background programs that could slow your system down, or be using the internet at the same time.

Just my $.02 so far.

Problem My network internet connection is constantly getting interrupted on all three computers connected to my router the disconnection appaears to be random and very frequent and only lasts maybe a second or less but it will disconnect me from any game I am playing or any download I am in the middle of Apparently lots of other people have the same problem with the router some have had success with disconnections 624 constant Dlink the firmware update but I have not Right now one computer is connected wirelessly while the Dlink 624 constant disconnections other two are connected with network cable When I log into the router and turn the quot wireless radio quot off the connection becomes stable for the two wired computers but of course the third computer doesnt get the internet at all this is only a temporary solution and I don t want to have to shell out another for a wireless router Some more information about the network setup The wireless uses a Dlink adapter to connect and bit WEP encryption all three computers are using windows xp with static IPs assigned and because someone suggested a low number address range to me The wireless computer is less than feet away from the router with only floor between them even without extended range mode on I get a strong signal with the wireless I don t know much about networking I ve had to teach myself to setup a protected wireless network so I chose the simplest encryption method is it my security settings Any suggestions would be appreciated dlink tech support is getting me and apparently others nowhere I have found that this is a common problem with the DI model I have the revision C model model and I have updated the firmware with no success nbsp

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have a very similar question so I thought it best to not start a new one.

I have two laptops and at least a few times a week I lose the ability to access the internet. However, the wifi network appears to be strong on both laptops. Unlike the original poster though, the issue goes away when I reset the router...but it always returns.

Both machines have AVG, and I will see if that's the issue. It would not be a big deal if this happened just once every now and again, but it's now happening 2-3 times a week. Can this still be an AVG issue if I'm once again able to access the internet after resetting the router?

Thank you!

Hello everyone I am hoping someone with more skill Disconnections Network from Randomized Home than myself can answer this question I have gone through about different PCI network cards all with the same issue I have deduced that Windows has to be the issue I just cannot determine WHAT the issue is I have totally random spasms of network problems usually involved with me disconnecting Randomized Disconnections from Home Network from my network and being unable to get back on Currently I have a DLINK DWA- PCIx Wireless N networking card linked to a LinkSys WRT N wireless home router on a GHZ frequency would go GHZ but not all devices in my house support it Every now and again I will get random disconnections from Randomized Disconnections from Home Network the network when everyone else works fine I have been packet sniffing and notice odd packets Just a complete and total stop My computer will disconnect from the network and no amount of fiddling can get it back on Even a total reboot fails in most cases I will usually have to sit and mess around with the network card disabling uninstalling from DM rehooking drivers etc I do not see anything unusual in the Event Manager either This has been common with every single network card I have ever used I dunno if its my mother board or windows causing the root problem I use a base version of Windows Professional x with absolutely windows updates I have Comodo Firewall and no anti virus I prefer to fight viruses manually anyways I have the latest drivers by DLINK for my card and even tech support from them was totally useless Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a fix Either by a windows update or some other strange method It should be noted I have regsvr 'd my entire driver set over and over to no avail SFC SCANNNOW brought back nothing either though I was just doing that out of frustration more than anything I have double checked the WMI repository as well and nothing seems wrong there I am a technician myself but this has me stumped I leave it to the greater minds out there Thanks

hi

Im actually helping someone else on thier possible virus-infected computer.
They have XP and 3 weeks ago,the computer became ill. They tried reformatting thier computer to see if that would fix thier computer,it did not,the problem continued. They checked with thier ISP,everything is suppose to be fine. They did a virus scan with norton, norton found nothing(NOTE: norton was not updated in 6 months).

they go online and within seconds, get disconnected.
virus? if it is a sign of that notorious XP virus from last month, can i download it and put it on a cd disk use it on thier computer? Thnaks

A:repeated online disconnections,virus?

sharky ; hi

The first you should try is to run the LSP-Fix .Download it to floppys on a computer that has a stable internet connection and run it on the infected machine .

Then make an online virus scan. Here are a couple of good ones

Symantec/Norton
http://security.symantec.com/defaul...FCSGFZVDTPSOERZ

Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Trend Micro HouseCall http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

I hope this helps

Hi there I have been experiencing connections issues when play two MOBA type games League of Legends and Heroes of Newearth The connection issue specified is that whenever I may be playing the game I would randomly reboot Disconnections and reconnect unable to unless disconnect once at maybe - minutes into the game I d be fine on the homepage of the client or whatever and I could sit there forever Disconnections and unable to reconnect unless reboot without me being disconnected But when entering the game and playing the game for a bit this would occur At first I thought it was just my router acting that way but when I went to check if I could reconnect to the router my router specifically just disappeared However the router appeared to still be working My PS next to me which is connected to the router also was also still connected to the router however my laptop was not To summarize it up when playing LoL or HoN These two games only I would disconnect and my laptop would not be able to reconnect because it would not even show that my router existed I had first thought it was only LoL acting up and asked for help on their forums however received no help I thought this because every other online game I played would be perfectly fine as I played it Some games where this doesn t happen is Warcraft The Frozen Throne and Ragnarok Online However recently I decided to try out HoN thinking it was only LoL that acted that way but to my dismay it had occurred the same way on HoN So what I m basically asking what may be the problem How can I fix it P S Please explain things in the simplest way possible I am not that computer savvy Please and thank you Help much appreciated I also have a feeling it s only due to MOBA type games that this may be occuring I hope not though It may also be hardware failure P S S If you require any specs from me please specify how I may obtain them Once again not that computer savvy heeh nbsp

Hi everyone

I just bought my new laptop, Asus ux303lb yesterday and since then I have been experiencing high ping and frequent disconnections in games, namely Tera and Warframe. I have run them perfectly on my older computer with even poorer specs. A test on pingtest.com and speedtest.com shows that I have no packet loss and my ping is well below 10ms. I also take an extremely long time to log into games. Could I get some help please? Thank you.

A:High ping and frequent disconnections in games

Few suggestions, (im not an IT guru):
- Performance when loading games is due to your computers specifications and/or any other programs that you may be running in the background;
- When using a laptop for gaming please remember that slow performance can be due to power saving features of your device. Laptops use this to prolong the battery life. The power saving feature will stop using the ac adaptor and use the battery for a predetermined amount of time, after which it will charge the battery up. When using the battery power, this can result in less power to hardware making gaming fps drop etc...
- Ping: try "cmd.exe" and type "tracert" and after once space type gaming server ip address. This will show you the network path from your laptop through all the network hardware and should show you any problems which you can discuss with your ISP.
- Points to remember: update all drivers as they encompass new releases and fix older bugs, don't download when playing online games, ensure your WIFI connection is via 5ghz network (if available) and not 2.4ghz, every so often restart your router

Hi For some time now I've been having some issues with my network disconnecting at seemingly random times and it is proving incredibly frustrating At the time of the disconnections the following entry is logged in the Event Log - gt System log Code The TCP IP NetBIOS Helper service was successfully sent a stop control The reason specified was x - network Frequent ID disconnections 7042 Event Operating System Network Connectivity Planned I've Googled this issue to death and seen possible resolutions from disabling power saving mode on the card disabling services to updating drivers I've tried all these suggestions and the problem persists This seems to be an issue affecting quite a few Windows users and it's a little frustrating that there doesn't seem to be a sure way to resolve it We've recently switched to fibre broadband so I've had Frequent network disconnections - Event ID 7042 to purchase a BT Dual Band WiFi dongle to make the most of the extra speeds and the problem still persists with my previous NICs disabled Due to the change in broadband service we have had to change router from a Netgear DGN to the BT HomeHub so it looks like we can rule out wifi cards and routers as possible causes I'm using Windows Ultimate x with SP All updates installed There doesn't seem to be any related network or other issues occurring Speed is good and generally quite stable File sharing works well on all devices No BSODs no crashes or other noticeable issues I'm absolutely stumped on what is causing the issue and would appreciate some advice or other possible resolutions workarounds please Fairly close to formatting and installing Windows but I would like to keep one computer in the house as Windows for the time being as I'm otherwise very happy with it Thanks for any help Nick
