Q: IE Critical Update Keeps Failing To Install

Hi,I've recently been infected with a Malware infection, however with help from the Hijackthis forum I've managed to remove it.I now have another issue, its with regards to a Windows Update to IE - it keeps failing to complete ( and seems to be stuck in a loop )Does anybody have any ideas with regards to what it could be ??This is a link to the original Malware infection postings : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/202644/infected-with-malware-which-has-hijacked-browser-disabled-automatic-updates-antivirus-360/On a side note, the malware infection did interfere with Windows Auto Update ?? Dont know if this is relevent ?Thanks

Preferred Solution: IE Critical Update Keeps Failing To Install

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Microsoft Critical Update won't install

I solved it, LoL. the solution is much easier than I thought.

I opened the box that gave me the error report, and clicked on the link it provided in the box below, which led me to a microsoft/tech/bulletin or something, and chose the link under the "affected systems." I guess the problem was with the updater itself. sorry to waste space!

Hello,
I installed several new updates but Service pack 1 for Win 7 keeps failing giving me the error message 0x80070541. I am using Win 7 Home Premium 32 Hebrew version, updated from Vista 7 Home Premium 32 Hebrew version

I have tried twice, it gets to around 98-100% downloaded and then displays the error and the option to retry. The same thing happened when I tried to install IE9.
I am using an admin account and have default Windows settings with McAfee Antivirus software , which I have disabled during the update. I have tried running standalone install programs:
Windows6.1-KB947821-v14-x86.msu, IE9-Windows7-x86-en.exe and setup37561_100_DL.exe, with the same results.
Normally I don't have any problems installing updates.

I have included a summary of my computer?s system and components.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Hey guys n gals, just need a bit of help reading through my windows update log! Recently reinstalled win7 64x, because I wanted a nice new format before I go back to university ! Thing is, set up my new system, then started to download updates. Restarted my PC to install these updates and when rebooting it stuck at 0% for like 5minutes then went to the welcome screen. Bit worried about this, so I went into windows update and it seems 99% of the updates failed to install! I'm thinking that there is one stubborn update that is making the rest of them fail, so I've attached my log for you guys to have a look at!

Thanks a lot,
Tom

A few days ago, I installed a Windows Update: A critical service pack for WMP script commands.

Since then, WMP 9 will not play any videos. I have checked all settings that I think are pertinent to this, to no avail.

Can anyone advise?

** Also, tried to login to a regularly visited website forum, and I get a message that cookies are disabled. However, in checking the settings, that is not the case.

If you run the DISM command and it fixes a Windows component you should rerun the sfc command again and reboot the computer. If the update still does not install the update, you could hide it if you are sure you don't need it You could also try a Repair Install and as a last resort, reinstall Windows.

A:Solved: Windows update failing to install

You would probably be better off and find it less annoying if you set Automatic Updates to

Notify me but don't automatically download and install them.

This way, you have control over which updates get downloaded and installed.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Go to the Windows Updates site, then do a "Custom" scan.

Once the scan is finished, see if those same 5 updates are displayed.

If they are, attempt to download and install them.

If you're met with the same error message, do a new "custom" scan.

Select only 1 of them to download and install.

If it successfully installs, restart the computer.

Repeat the same steps for each of the others.

Note: One of the other trusted advisors(DoubleHelix) here came up with those steps, and it has worked for some others here.

Okay, I've heard about this horrible update and how it refuses to work, but I went around searching and found no one with the same problem as I did. So here is what happened:
1. I found it through updating, tried to update it, doesn't work (downloaded 9.5 mb, but failure on installation).
2. I manually downloaded from the Microsoft website, installed it, doesn't work (says install failed).
3. I closed everything, including anti-virus (Avast) and firewall. Installed it, doesn't work (same error message).
4. I reboot to try all the above steps again x2, doesn't work (still same error message).

If anyone has a solution to my dilemma, it would be greatly appreciated.

When was this offered, I have mine set to automatically install updates and haven't had any failures and I've just looked through my update history and can't find this one listed.

I'm having trouble installing updates in windows 8.1. I've identified through sfc /scannow that there is store file corruption however sfc is unable to fix them i tried doing the DISM restore health and it did nothing. Following the advice of site on from google i tried running this from admin command prompt
 net stop wuauserv
cd %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution
ren Download Download.old
net start wuauserv
net stop bits
net start bits
net stop cryptsvc
cd %systemroot%\system32
ren catroot2 catroot2old
net start cryptsvc

and re ran the the DISM /restorehealth and now the DISM is stuck at 40% for the past 3 hours. How do i fix this so my updates start working again?

I have tried four times to install a BIOS update (Rom Family SSID 2AF7; Version 80.20Ap1) provided within the Support Assistant, on each occation the update fails to install. I get no error messages. The computer restarts, but the previous BIOS version (AMI 80.19 (2014-07-18)) remains installed. I have tried stopping my antivirus program, but this didn't help. I have noticed that the command screen hangs with a flashing cursor, but no instructions are visible and then my computer restarts. Is it possible that the update is corrupt? Any advice on how I should proceed would be welcome.

You have some errors in the CBS background that I've never seen before - hopefully there will be some supporting information in the event logs.

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

Please advise,
KB947821 stops installing at about 85% of the way through. I have turned off automatic installation, but it's stuck in a loop:
It attempts to install every time I turn off the laptop, tries and then fails to apply the installation when I turn on the laptop and won't respond when I try to stop the installation as administrator from the control panel.
Laptop seems to be running ok otherwise,
Thanks in advance,

A:system update readiness tool KB947821 failing to install

KB947821 is the CheckSUR tool - and very rarely will it attempt to automatically install, since it's a tool to fix existing problems, rather than an update.

It will often take anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 or 4 hours to run, so leave it to run overnight - it will appear to have stalled for most of that time, but is in fact working hard.

If as you say, it's actually failing, then you may have some severe problems.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data - don't bother attempting to install CheckSUR again - the logs should already be present in the CBS folder, and can be posted.

I don't know what to do the thermometer gauge represents your surface pro is getting overheated and in order to prevent heat damage to the core hardware the device/bios shuts down your device. so first we need to fix the overheating issue and then can you continue with the update.

Every time I try to update W 8 I get the error message saying the updates failed and the purple screen that says it is "reverting update". I thought it might be multiple updtaes at once cusing the problem so I tried individual updates at a time. Also disabled AV. Ran update repair. Nothing works.
This after I tried the W8 to 8.1 upgrade and it failed. So I thought I would need to make sure updates were complete. Thus the issue with updates. Ultimately I will try and install the 8.1 os after all this. Any suggestions.

Hi, this may be a stupid question but here it is
I went to microsoft site to download updates because i have a malware/trojan problem that is beginning to get out of hand, and when adaware removes them they come right back. Anyway, I just thought about updating IE because i cant remember the last time i did.

This is the question---how do i know what updates i have already had? and do i need to do the updates in order of the released date?

Thanks, I am at my wits end. Live in the middle of nowhere with a very slow connection 9-14 bps and do not want to waste time downloading something I already have. I know i need to do this b4 i go any farther in trying to rid theses pests from my computer.

A:IE critical update help

When you go to the windows update site,
You can click the installation history. It will list what you have already downloaded and installed.

Click tools, windows update to get there.

If it lists it in the critical section, then you need to re-download and re-install to have it patched correctly.

I downloaded these via auto update feature and installed them. After installing these updates, my computer acted slow when opening any program. I mean real slow. It also took twice as long to boot the computer. I did a System Restore and removed one of the updates by restoring to a point before it was installed. (the Q817287 one) and everything returned to it's snappy self. I installed the updates on my other XP computer and it acted the same way. Had to restore it the same way I did this computer. I refuse to update my third computer.

A:Critical Update

Seems to be a problem related with this hotfix. Buffer Overrun in Windows Kernel Message Handling could Lead to Elevated Privileges:Hotfix(811493) on some computers. Alot of people on Microsofts forum are reporting a slowdown or sluggishness after the update. When the update is removed the computer returns to normal.

Hi !! Just checked 'Windows Update' & recommended IE SERVICE 6 PACK 1 as a critical update ? Why is this as 'AM USING IE 5.5 SP2 of which 'am very happy ! Do I need to update ? Should I ?

Your help is appreciated !!

A:Critical update ??

Joe,

It is only critical if you want the latest from MS. If your MSIE 5.5-sp2 is fully patched, you are fine. I do not likle the way MS has redefined "Critical" in the new Windows Update scheme.

You can manually alter the update list by clicking "remove" at the end of the section describing MSIE6.

Princess welcome to TSG.

If the following doesn't help you let me know what the update program is and what is listed in start up and I will tell you how to get it out.

Go into start up or msconfig depending on the system you are using and remove it from there.

Instructions for removing programs from start up or msconfig are at and listed under msconfig

Help. I'm trying to help my son who has a new Dell with XP. Naturally he knew nothing about Critical Updates, etc. so we are struggling to update his computer. And from what I can see, he has the MSBlaster virus which is another story.

What I need though is how I can register him for notification from Microsoft when there is a Critical Update. I have Windows 98 and when I went to the Critical Update webpage, there was a place to register for Critical Updates. Tonight I went to the Microsoft download page and accessed the Critical Updates for him but searched the webpage and couldn't find anything about getting automatic notification of a Critical Update.

Can anyone tell me how to get this.

Thanks so much in advance.

A:Windows XP Critical Update

Virtual Machine is the interface that allows Internet Explorer to run Java applets.

Is the update really necessary? Frankly I don't know how serious it is and experience is teaching that many people will have problems with updates that probably never would have encountered the vulnerability they are designed to address.

My policy now is to wait and see if the exploit being addressed really does become a common threat on the web.

There have been at least 2 updates to virtual machine is the last year or so, if you haven't installed any of them (open a command prompt and enter jview to see your version number) you probably should bring yourself up to date. This update is version 3810.

By the way, in XP you should be able to reverse a bad update by doing a System Restore.

You should immediately test this one after rebooting by testing your Java at a site like this.

A:Critical new BIOS update?

Usually you should not update the BIOS, because if your computer shuts down, etc then your computer will not boot at all, and its pretty hard to fix it like that

That is why you should only update BIOS if you are having problems with it (usually updates can fix issues and introduce new issues)

After the installation was complete it restarted the computer after which my compter would not completly boot up. I had to boot in safe-mode and do a system restore to get it working right.
Today I have the same notice so I went to the windows update page, and saw the update was there.
I didn't download it because of what happened before. So I went to my installed update history and it said it was successfully updated.
I looked at the update again and it said the update was 0 kbs. Can you tell me what happened and why now the up date says 0 kps to be installed?

Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

My wife's notebook installed 2 critical updates today.. But after the last reboot, it wouldn't boot all the way into Win7.. It stopped and said 'loading files' or something I usually don't get, then it said the computer would not start normally.. By reading the diagnostics, it said C:\CI.DLL was corrupt or missing.. I pulled the hard drive and put it in another machine and verified CI.DLL was there.. I scanned the HD with malwarebytes and found some unrelated web spiders and such, but cleaned the whold hard drive..

I put it back in, but couldn't get it to boot.. I'm now trying a system restore..

Why would a critical update do this?

Once I go back to an older point in time, am I OK to install the critical update again?

Hi

I woke on Thursday morning last week to my machine in a constant boot loop, with a BSOD appearing over and over. I tried startup recovery and system restore, neither of which were able to make changes.

In the end, I just reinstalled Windows 7 64 bit, but am now experiencing problems like RPC servers errors (exeption from HRESULT).

I went to services.msc and could not change the recovery option in RPC to restart service. The recovery option are greyed out.

The odd thing is my windows now has a completely different look to when I first installed it.

I am not reluctant to allow windows to do an auto update, so I don't know what to do. I have no issue doing a completely fresh install, but it does seem and extreme solution.

Any help gladly accepted

Anyone else notice that this critical update failed for XP? I had the same error on three machines. Here's the update history from the Windows Update Page.

If you're in Europe, the Netherlands mirror works much better than the French ones (at least it did for me!)

hi guys and girls did a critical update it was a sercurity update for 64 bit systems and it gives the bsod and wont let me log in i have tried two different system restore points and it fails and still bsod. i dont think its a virus related problem since it just happened after i did an update but will run scans in safe mode tomorrow.

any help or suggestion?

thanks -Andrew.

I had a HD failure and just installed a new hard drive in my HP Pavilion notebook. I reinstalled Win XP sp2 and installed all the updates except Microsoft net Framework ver. 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB928366) which failed to install.

Is this necessary to have?

A:critical update-kb928366-Net Framework

hello ,

it would benifit your system if you have it !!!

did you install .net frame work 2 ?

now if you look on the XPcd you will find the .net frame work 1 on it but you must be browsing the cd

to do this just start your pc then put the cd in after your pc has loaded

then you must select one of the options that you get / i just forgot the section that you need to select to install the net frame work from , it is faster the downloading from the internet
