Microsoft Works & Slow opening files

Q: Microsoft Works & Slow opening files

My works database used to work fine now when I try to print a form I get an out of memory error. I can go to another computer and no error.
another problem I have is that my files take a long time to open. When I double click to open a file it seems like the computer is searching the network for the file.
I am Virus free. Defraged and 2 MEGS of memory nothing changed when I added an extra meg of memory
any help will be appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Microsoft Works & Slow opening files

Try running chkdsk /r.

Start/Run...type chkdsk /r (space between k and /) and hit Enter. Type Y in response to onscreen question and hit Enter. Reboot and let the command run. The system will boot into XP automatically when chkdsk /r is complete.

You might also check your virtual memory settings...IMO, XP should be controlling the size of virtual memory.

I was using an OLD version of Microsoft works....4.x on my XP system.

I just bought Works 9.0 from Microsoft and Installed it but it won't let me open my old Works files. I've searched for a converter but they say they are for Windows 98 systems.

Anybody have any idea how I can open my old files in my new works program?

Thanks in advance!

I downloaded some Microsoft updates, rebooted, and now my Microsoft Works Calendar won't come up. I've been to MS website and tried their fix - it didn't work. Next option is to delete Works and reload. My question is - will this deletion get rid of all of my data files along with the program? Also, is Outlook Express part of Works? I've tried to find out, but can't. I'm really concerned about making a mess of things.

A:Solved: Microsoft Works Calendar -works cannot access one or more files.......

Outlook Express is not part of Works.

What version of Works do you have and is it supported by Windows XP?

Hi there guys.
Okay so here's the issue.
I have an HP Pavillion a813w that had Microsoft Works pre-installed on my computer.

Now, I just did a roll back, totally reformated my computer on April 10th to total factory settings once more, so my computer is relatively unbuggy, or so I thought.
However, when I was sent a document from a friend today via AIM, and I scanned it with my virus scanner, it was clean. It had me say yes, I agree to the EULA, and then as it was loading up, it just seemed to disappear, I couldn't open up the document, and I have tried rebooting, and restoring both and it would do nothing.

I'm wondering if there's a reason for this..

I'm trying to figure this out, first time I've ever had Works do this, before I reformated that is.

Each day, the first time I opening 'any' existing Microsoft Works Word Processor file that I have, such as ones I have for phone numbers, addresses, etc., I have to wait about 45 seconds for the file to open. And while I'm waiting, I can't do anything else on the computer. Any of those files I open the rest of the day, open immediately. It's just the first time each day. Any solutions?

A:Delay in opening any Microsoft Works Word file 1st time each day..

Nobody????????????????? else has this problem. Really? All I have to do is google it and get a dozen items show up, all with no solutions from Microsoft whatsoever.

Windows 7, on a Dell XPS, plenty of ram, plenty of hard drive space.

Not a problem with any windows program, on any computer I've had, since 'forever', until now! since I've ran Win 7 onto my computer.

Using a Desktop, Windows XP, Works 7.0, when I save a wordprocessor document, it saves as a WPS. When I go to my documents to open it, I get a message - Windows cannot open this file. The file has been saved as a WPS. What can I do to open these documents?

I also found that when I save a WPS document from my harddrive to a floppy disk, I can't open it from the disk for the same reasons as above.

In the list of my choices to open this file are: Internet Explorer, Microsoft Works Database, Microsoft Works Spreadsheet, Notepad, Wordpad. What can I do to open these files? Thanks for any help.

I was trying to help a friend with her new computer. She had been saving all documents typed in Works under My Documents since it was the default. I set up folders and began to move the documents and the files continued to replicate themselves under My Documents.

Each time a file was selected whether by right clicking, dragging and dropping, etc. a new file was added of the same thing. Renamed itseld as Copy 1, Copy 2, etc

Any ideas?

A:Microsoft Works Files Replicating

I helped someone with this EXACT same problem.

1. Do NOT hold the Ctrl key while dragging. Ctrl+Drag = copy

2. Perhaps the Ctrl key is stuck down on your keyboard. Try another keyboard.

How can I get my MS Works database files to be able to be transferred to another program such as Open Office or Office? I have a lot of collected information in many files that I can't share with anyone else who doesn't have Works. The Office Database is far too complicated for me and much more powerful than I need for my own use.

Did you TRY exporting?

A typical choice for database conversions is to export -> CSV format and then work with that
to create the imports. Hint: Export only one TABLE at a time.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2

About 3 days ago I loaded IE7. Nice browser, liked the features. I happened to check history and there were 5 or 6 sex (and other) sites listed (history doesn't seem to give times). I had not visted these sites. I cleared history, checked and they were gone. A couple of days later, they were back (I had not visited).

I ran regedit and searched for the name of one of them (closetmonster.com) and nothing found.

I ran Hijack-this, no errors or strange entries found (to my untrained eyes). Someone suggested running ComboFix (latest version). I did, I have the log. Can somebody help decipher it. or recommend a course of action. I didn't want to post it in the wrong place.

I nearly forgot, since deleting the history (befire Hijack-This and ComboFix) opening any Microsoft Office app is VERY slow (1-2 minutes for Outlook etc...)

One of the computers in my office is having some problems viewing attachments.

The computer is running Win98 SE it has office 2000 professional on it and the following happens when the user tries to open jpg files.

Microsoft photo editors appears on the task bar but the actual program does not load. You have to right hand click on the item in the task bar and select close. We had a similar problem with some computers and word 97 but I installed word 2000 on their systems and this seemed to resolve the problem.

I have re-installed office 2000 on the computer in question and the problem persists.

If any one has seen this before I would welcome your assitance.

Hello,

I recently ran into an issue where this installation on Windows 7 Pro 32-bit is trying to open up all my programs in Word, they all have the MS word icon as well, so for instance, when I click on Nero, it will try to open it up in word and we get an error because it is not a word file. This is on all Program .exe files. There are no options to change the file association in the default programs in control panel. I have only seen a few fixes for this which involve the registry, I have checked these, however, all registry keys are correct. System restore fails as well, have tried multiple restore points to no avail. We have also ran norton, and malwarebytes on the system is it runs clean. I am not sure where to go from here. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like your EXE file associations has been set wrong. You can download and merge the exe download in the tutorial below to restore all of the default associations and settings for the exe file extension.

When I open the application that I want to run, then open a file it will open with no problem. But when double clicking on a file to open it, it takes forever for the file to start the application. This happens with all files, not just files for Word or Excel. Even Notepad is having trouble. What can cause this and how can it be fixed?

This is more than a shot in the dark.

Disable WinRAR shell integration.

Failing that, use ShellExView to locate other candidates.

you probably have spyware or a virus...download some free tools and learn how to
use them... you get some nice free tools like spybot S&D and other apps...
use free AVG or Avast if you dont have anti virus installed...

I have two computers on a network and when we try to pen files, whether locally or over the network, it takes about a minute for he file to actually open, no matter what type of file it is. No error message, nothing. UNLESS we open the program (i.e. Word) first, and THEN open the file through the program, it opens fine. We have no virus scanners istalled to see if that would help, but it didn't and also performed a reg clean - well cleaned everything really and it's made no difference. Running XP. I'd GREATLY APPRECIATE any help.

Thank you!!

Hi, I'm running Winxp sp3 and Office 2003. When I open Word file from another computer it takes ages to open the program. It's as if I hadn't clicked on the file in the first place! However when I click Word (instead of opening a file) it opens instantly. The wait for previously saved files is an amazing 15 seconds!

Do you think I am infected with a virus? What should I do? All help really appreciated!

A:Slow Opening Word Files

Do you have any anti-virus software? It doesn't sound like a virus but you would be better to get your system checked.Just run a scan with an anti-virus, if you don't have one on your PC you can always use the Kaspersky Online Scanner.Although it won't remove anything it will help you identify if there is a problem.Kaspersky Online ScannerHope this helps.

Hi,

I am a noob here, was wondering if anyone has come across this proplem before:-
When I go to open any file eg. document, picture or audio from a folder it takes between 5 and 10 seconds to open, however if I open them from the application direct it is instant, I have discovered that when I disable my LAN connections the problem stops, but I need them both running for my network and internet connection, I have been running hassle free for some years like this, the problem only started about a week ago, don't recall installing any software or hardware, if anyone knows about this or has any suggestions that may help me solve it I would greatly appreciate it?

Many Thanks

Sean.

A:All files slow in opening from any folder

Try opening My Documents or My Computer (it doesn't matter). At the top, click Tools, and then Folder Options. Click the View tab and uncheck where it says "Automatically search for network folders and printers".

If that doesn't work, then you might want to try and scan your system for viruses and spyware.

Hi,
We have a problem that's appeared over the last few days on three machines (all running XP SP2). When someone tries to open a file in windows explorer it can take up to a minute to complete the task. Trying to get the 'open with' menu (right mouse button) also takes upwards of a minute. We have found a work round but I can't believe this is the best way to do it:-
In Regedit
Open HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, *, shellex, ContextMenuHandlers
Delete 'Open With' and 'Open With EncryptionMenu'
Refresh and everything seems to work ok.

Anyone got any ideas out there?

A:very slow opening files in windows explorer

FYI. I think we figured it out, and it's pretty obvious to be honest. Doh! The machines that we running slowly had a drive mapped to a directory on a machine that didn't exist any more as it had been replaced and renamed. So delete the drive map and then re-map it on the new machine.

Hi, I'm so annoyed with Office 2010's stupid splash screen which comes up every time you open a Word, PowerPoint, and Excel file. It seems to add like 1 second to the opening time of the file. It is getting so annoying that I'm considering switching to Office 2007 for good.

How can Microsoft make an Office suite which opens files slower than the previous version?

Here are a couple of things to try (if you have not already done so):
1. Run scandisk/checkdisk
2. Run defrag
3. Check to see what applications launch on start up. If you re-installed a ton of applications (Office, for example) these may be launching their quick starts on boot; also review your Anti-Virus's settings.

I have a problem I can't seem to fix. This problem only happens 6-8 hours after a reboot....works fine up until that timeframe.

When I get an email in Outlook 2007 (I use the reading pane) and I click on a link or select a Office document (Word or Excel), it takes 60 to 90 seconds for the web page or document to open. I have searched all over for answers and cannot find any.

Immediately after a reboot, it works fine....for a time as described above.

Sound familiar to anyone? Any help would be greatly appreciated. God Bless.

A:Slow opening links and files in Outlook

Sounds like to me you may have Memory issues, or your computer's processor is getting tired (which is a common problem). If your using too much RAM (ie more than your maximum), then your computer will enter virtual memory mode, which is using the hard drive as RAM, which in turn will make your computer run SUPER SLOW!

Hope this was helpful, if you need more help, just ask..

Hi !

Windows explorer is very slow opening folders containing jpeg pictures. I have tried using all the different folder views, thumbnail, list, detail. Explorer works quick when opening any other type folder without pictures. I am using windows xp home, 3 gig processor, 960 meg of ram. The picture files in my folders are in - my documents/my pictures/ folders. the file sizes are approx 1.5 mb files, 30 to 200 files per folder.
they start showing up in random places in the view window and they take 30 sec to 1 minute to fill screen. when i try to scroll down the window seem to freeze up for 30-45 sec or completely closes the explorer window all together.
i have ran mcafee virus scan and spyware doctor and they both turned up no problems. Any thing you could suggest to help isolate any possible issues would be appreciated.
Thanks

A:Slow Windows Explorer Opening Picture Files

To open Computer Management, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management.

You must be recognized as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group on your computer and on the computer you are managing to perform this task.

For best performance, set the initial size to not less than the recommended size under Total paging file size for all drives. The recommended size is equivalent to 1.5 times the amount of RAM on your system.

Usually, you should leave the paging file at its recommended size, although you might increase its size if you routinely use programs that require a lot of memory. (like graphics intensive aps - IE picture files with 200 pics)

This pertains to Compaq EVO D300v and EVO slimline 500

During log in to an NT 4 domain XP takes 5 to 6 minutes to complete a log in. Once logged in, the system appears to respond normally unless the user attempts to open a file from the server, it then takes 5 to 6 minutes to open the file. Once the file opens, the system(s) appear to be fine again. While opening the file, the system(s) can switch between programs and responds normally to all other commands. Any thoughts?

Have seen similar problem as XP by default sets a fixed virtual memory.
Go control panel then system: Then

system\advanced\performance\settings\advanced\virtual memory\change
Alter from custom size to system managed size click set
Click OK out then restart windows.

A:Slow performance when opening folders, moving, copying and deleting files

How large is your profile? To find out:

1) Open Windows Explorer

2) Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings

3) Right click on your username and select properties

If the Size is more than 100GB, I'd strongly suggest either deleting stuff you don't need or moving stuff that you to use often to some sort of "archive" folder outside of your profile.

Let me know if this helps. If not, we'll look a little deeper into the issue.

This sounds like it might be a malware infection.

Have you run any scans lately?

Did you download BackUp4All from a reputable source?

Microsoft Office 2010 is installed on my PC (Dell Studio XPS8100, Windows 7). Another member of the household has asked whether she can install Microsoft Works 9.0 on my PC, now that her PC is on its last legs. (She greatly prefers Works over Office, for its simplicity and because of her long-term familiarity with Works.) If Works 9.0 is installed onto my PC, would this cause problems for Office 2010, Works 9.0, and/or my PC? If so, are there workarounds? Thanks.

A:Microsoft Works 9.0 and Microsoft Office 2010 compatibility

The official "word" from Microsoft (pun intended) is that Office & Works can co-exist on the same PC.

Provided you do not intend to share documents between Office & Works (ie both suites will be used separately), there are no "workarounds" or special procedures you need to remember when using them.

Hello I have been using Microsoft Works database Works 4.5 Microsoft vs 2000 Works function for many years I am a secretary at a sportsmens club and I have the membership developed in a database that contains name address zipcode ss drivers licence etc From this databsae I create labels to be used to mail out our club newsletters We currently have over members that we store pertinent information on Using the label program in Microsoft works in previous Microsoft Works 2000 vs Works 4.5 versions such as or has been a breeze and always worked wonderfully We upgraded our computer system and now have the microsoft works version We were able to load our databse in this version and have been using it quite regularly We are continually adding to this database daily My problem is I have yet to figure out how to develop the labels for the mailing addresses You would think this would be an easy process but when I try to do this I get an error message saying I have characters such as periods etc and cannot produce these labels That would be quite a bit of extra work to remove any of those special characters and before I would do that I would want to make sure if that is really what the problem is Why would Microsoft Works 2000 vs Works 4.5 it be a problem in works and not works Right now I have the program loaded on a laptop with works just to devleop the labels I really do not want to convert to using just because of the dates that I use in the databse and with the newer version it recognizes dates in the year and greater Why has this become such a chore and that I am unable to do this I cannot believe that I would need to go through my database and take out any periods etc I do not have to do that for - why would I have to do that for the version I have been playing with this for months and still have not figured out the way to do this so if there is anyone that can help me with this dilemma I would appreciate it Thank-you nbsp

firstly about two years ago i was making a game when suddenly my computer slowed down to the point where it took 15 mins to load a working version of windows. about half a year ago my dad got it to work faster after a bout 3 installs after that i estabalished a network with my new PC then the old one stopted working. so i resorted to my dad's other pc(i couldn't get the file transfer on that one either). a few days ago i got my old pc to work properly but now i am having trouble getting a file share on Windows and even Ubuntu but so far i would just like to know how to fix this probvlem on Windows.

A:it works, it breaks then works to the point where i can't share files

Really need more information to be able to help.
What is the make/model and operating system of each computer?
How are they connected?
Do the compuiters show in each other's Network display?
Can the computers ping each other by IP Address and Computer Name?

This is a general trouble shooting guide for simple problems.

Each computer must have a Unique Name.
Each computer must have at least one user account with a password. Vista will not share with computers that do not.
All the computers must have the same Work Group Name.
File Sharing must be turned on for each computer.
Firewalls must be configured to allow sharing.
To Turn on File Sharing.
For the XP computers go to Control Panel, Network Setup wizard.
Click next.
Click next.
If you are running wireless, the ethernet card will be listed. If connected by ethernet and you have a wireless card it will be listed.
For right now, just select "Ignore the listed connections".
Click next.
Select "This computer connects to the internet by a residential gateway".
Click next.
Enter the Work Group name.
Click next.
Select "Turn on File and printer Sharing"
Click next.
Verify all the information is correct.
Click next.
I would select "Just finish the wizard" and not make a disc. It take about the same amount of time to run the disc as to manually enter the data.
Click next.
Click finish.

Vista Computers.
Not sure where to enter the Work Group Name on Vista. Been a couple of years and my wife is using it right now. Lost the file I had with all this info.

Go into Network and Sharing Center.
Next to your Network Name will be a listing of "public" or "private"
"Private" will allow any computer connected to your network to access shared files on the Vista computer unless Passwor Protection is enabled.
"Public" requires a duplicate account/password to be created on the Vista computer for another computer to access files.
Select options you want to share. Shared Files, Printers, Media Files.
Password Protection. This option requires that a password be entered before a computer can access files or printer.

Try a system restore to before the issue happened.

FWIW, I've seen a similar issue, and it turned out to be a networked printer that was removed from the network and was somehow being queried every time I opened files.

"To open this workbook, your computer must have a version of Microsoft Excel installed and your Web browser must support opening files directly from Excel in the browser."
Below is the browser version

However when the same is tried/accessed through a browser deployed on a dev machine, it works normally. Below is the version of the IE on the DEV server

What is causing this to happen?
Is there any tool to check the difference between the IE settings on my Desktop and the dev box.

I want to be able to open a Microsoft Works attachment (wps) directly from Exchange. This is actually for a novice user so he can do it easily (honest). I am using Microsoft Word 97 and can open the attachment indirectly by opening word selecting file type 'Works' etc etc.
I tried creating a new file association in Windows .wps and associating it with Word but Word doesn't seem to recognise the file on it's own. I guess this must be the way to do it but prehaps adding a switch to the
c:\program files\microsoft office\office\winword.exe line in the 'open with' section.
Any Ideas?

A:Opening Works attachment

After you associated the wps file to Word, does it show a Word icon in Windows Explorer? If not, perhaps you didn't do the association right. How do you know Word doesn't recognize it? Does it give an error when you double-click the filename? What is the error?

If the file association didn't work, try this:

Open Windows Explorer and make sure you see a *.wps file. Left-click it once. Then, while holding shift key, right-click on the file name. Hit Open With, select Word from the list and hit the checkbox "always use this program..." and hit ok. If the file opens, the association should work whenever you double-click a wps. However! I'm not sure that Exchange uses Windows file associations. If it's a recent version, it certainly should. Good luck!

Recently, I'm having slow file loading while opening ms word files and excel files directly from windows explorer. It takes a minute to load, however it opens immediately if I open .doc files or .xls files directly from their application software. It also take a minute for MS Word and Excel software to shut down.

I have run my antivirus (Symantec) and MBAM but they all show no virus was found. I'm not sure what should I do next, please advice.

I have a problem in which iTunes 9 refuses to open...

I have checked other threads but none of the solutuions on them work for my PC! Im running Windows XP and I do NOT use Norton (Which I see causes a lot of the problems)

I have tried opening it via shorcuts, the start menu, ending the process though Ctrl+Alt+Del and still had no luck.

I have disconnected from the internet and turned off firewalls, ran virus checks, re-installed...

Even manually finding the song in my documents and trying to open iTunes that way, even when I connect my iPod it wont open.

A:XP works normally, locks after opening any program

Welcome to Techspot supermunky. Let's see what we can do:

Chrome is the browser- let's think of that separately from a 'program.' The browser is what you use to access the internet. Bet you knew that already!

Programs are installed. They use hard drive 'space' when closed and when you open a program, you use RAM- that's your memory. Please go to the Control Panel> System> Genera; tab> find the RAM figure and give it to me.

You may have plenty of 'space'- you would use that to save files and folders, install programs, apps, etc. But you need RAM to run them. If you would like to share other information about your system, it would be appreciated.

Two additional questions: Why did you do a reinstall? Did you have the same problem before doing it?

Hi all.

My dad recently updated his business laptop. His old laptop was using Windows ME with MS Works 4.5.
His new laptop is using Windows Vista with MS Works 9.0.

I have transferred all of his old files that he needs from his old laptop to his new one, expecting the new Works to be able to open the old files.
However, Works Word Processor 9.0 is unable to open any of the older 4.5 files!

Here is the message I get when I try to open the old files using MS Works 9.0;

Now this is really important because he is unable to access letters, etc. that he really needs to open!

Does he need some kind of converter or something?

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

A:Please help! How do I open Works 4.5 files with Works 9.0?

I've just found out that Works 9.0 cannot open Works 4.5 files.
My only option is use Works versions 6 - 8, which can open the 4.5 files.

It's really ridiculous that Works 9.0 cannot open these files.

I have found a Works 7.0 CD so I might give that a try.

The thing is, my dad has since created new files using this Works 9.0. If I "downgrade" to Works 7.0, will it be able to open the 9.0 files?

Hi,
Internet Explorer 8 always says it can't open webpages. However I am able to ping without any problems.

Where should I go from here?

Thanks!

A:Internet Explorer not opening pages, ping works

try resetting ie to defaults. try running without addons. try another browser to see if it is an ie issue or something else.

O K I'm looking for a opening and MS upon line adds closing Works document one job I open MS Works and I write my re'sume a few pages long Because many people cannot open a MS Works document doc x I save it as a MS Word file DOC as I close it When I re-open the thing all the text has been moved down one line and the final line of each page if it was the last line at the bottom of the previous page has rolled-over to the next page If I save it again as a DOC and re-open it it will move the text down one more line If I do that all again 'Save As' - re-open it moves everything down one more line and keeps rolling over the last line to the next page This is maddening as I try to format my re'sum'e I've taken to using Wordpad because it does not mess with the formating Does anybody have any idea why that happens

A:MS Works adds one line upon opening and closing document

There may be problem with your default template.. Try resetting the template...

Go to C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates and delete the normal.dotm restart your computer have a try

Weirdest thing I had Acrobat Pro pinned to my start menu and one day when trying to open it wanted to install I let it go through the process but it ended with the attach Same thing happens from the program menu However button Acrobat PDF install to but works wants with opening start if Acrobat works opening PDF but wants to install with start button I click on a PDF and open it that way everything in the program works fine I seldom if ever have to use a start button but would still like to know what's going on I'd try to repair but have CS and shutter at the thought Acrobat works opening PDF but wants to install with start button the rest of the suite get screwed up trying to repair Acrobat On a somewhat related note about the same time the start button started malfunction PDF icons were no longer in preview mode but default icons So I had some with previews and newer ones with the default I got around this behaviour somewhat by making Nitro my default viewer which immediately showed the preview icons and then switching back to Adobe PS there's a folder with the same name minus data cab in the set up folder

A:Acrobat works opening PDF but wants to install with start button

Ha! I ran the "repair Acrobat installation" under the help menu and all seems well. Too easy...

hello. our computer now takes half an hour to an hour to reboot. in doing so, it tells me that it does not do the startup and services. it is so slow it is unbelievable. sometimes even being so slow that the words we type take a few seconds to show up on the screen. after working for a time it will invariably hang. or it will shut itself down. in either case we have to reboot. and yes, it takes that half an hour to an hour again.

windows xp pro sp 2
AMD Athlon Xp 2600+
1.91 GHz.
1 GB Ram
20 gb hard drive with operating system on it.
200 gb hard drive sitting almost empty.

this happens even a half hour after a defrag. i have run spyware doctor and ewido, and am using twister anti-trojan virus software, the paid version. let me know what other information you need. thanks for all that you do for us.

I Windows XP Pro, SP2.

Can you change the default folder that displays when you open a file in the Works word processor? It always displays My Documents. I'd like to have it display something else or at least the last folder you were in. Like in WordPad.

Here is the link to Microsoft Works 9 info which is a basic word processing program plus other features.

After goggling "Microsoft works 9, error 646" and reading solutions from Microsoft Answers this Microsoft Fix it solution is supposed to fix your error even though it says it is for Office 2007. Click on the button half way down the page.

Hiya and welcome

When it says it cand find the database, can you post the full message, like the Calender one. For the calender issue, have a look at this:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=303858

That may/may not help for those other issues you're having, with the clipart.

I am attempting to set up a credit card log in microsoft works. After bringing up the template for credit card log showing column's, I enter card number in first column then click to next column, type, to enter type of card. When I do this the previously entered card number changes and adds (E+14) to the number I have entered. What am I doing wrong? Why does the number change?

A:microsoft works

While I never use Works, that problem is also in Excel so will comment on that, it should apply.

You need to format the cell holding the credit card number as text, because it is interpreting the card number as a very long number and truncating it as you see.

You could try widening the column also, however using text would help more.
Try using spaces in the number? (i.e. 1234 5678 0123456)

Hi, I am charles 6263 and a retired professor, not terribly adept with computer programs. I am using microsoft works word processor and have been trying to place page numbers on a long document. All I am able to do, however, is put the number on the current page, and I am offered no choice as to position. Suggestions as to sources of help. Thanks.

A:microsoft works

My only suggestion is to upgrade to a version of Microsoft Office. Microsoft Works is a minimal group of programs, similar to Office, but not the same in power, customization and usefulness

Works seems to be free in Vista Home Premium and even in Windows 7
However I am trying to help out a fellow senior and she gets spreadsheet documents created in Works format. I looked at her list of programs and there
is no microsoft works or other folder.
is there a link where one could download the free program?
there are many links in a search but all seem to push buying it.
I have it in windows 7 but there is no way of course to move it to her Vista
laptop.
Any thoughts on how I can help her?
Larry.

Hello shipinomore,
Have you looked at this free software ?>

OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite

I don't know if there will be anything here that will fit the bill, but worth a look.
Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.
