OS Windows XP Pro. I copied music from an old computer and pasted it on the new computer for my son. As long as the flash drive is inserted, he can listen to the music. (Even though the flash drive is empty.) When the flash drive is removed and he tries to listen to the music it is prompting him to connect to the internet, and he has no internet. We took the flash drive to my house with 3 albums on it, they showed up with the same prompt to connect to the internet, even with the flash drive inserted. What might we be doing wrong? The files are "wma" files.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Internet Explorer /Tools /Internet Options / Connections
Make sure you select 'Never dial a connection' and Apply
In Windows Media Player
select Now Playing at the top, close and open again.
Sometimes if you have clicked on Media Guide, I've found it seems
to stick there, (until you select as above) and tries to open the Internet.
But the new computer should not be accessing the flash drive if the music
has been copied over. Clicking on any WMA file (standard windows media file)
should open Windows Media Player.
In the Player open Tools / Options / File Types and put a tick in each box.
Just trying the obvious for the moment.
First, I wanted to listen to a clip on Amazon and I clicked "listen" for Windows Media Player and then another time for Real Player, since I have BOTH. All it would do was save it to my computer (entitled "hurl") and then I couldn't open it. It didn't even give the option of opening it--that was "grayed out."
Also, is there ANYwhere that I can just download a song without taking out a bank loan or giving them my firstborn? I went to Yahoo radio, too, and went through the sign-in procedure and then it wouldn't complete. The button just did nothing. I don't plan to do a lot of downloading music. I just want to get a song occasionally.
Any help will be appreciated.
Here is a link to free radio stations in the UK (I don't know where you are based)
Scroll down to the player that you use.

First reinstall the programs that don't respond. Also tell us what type of soundfile you want to play e.g. mp3, wav or other types..
What would be something to check, if you can listen to cds but not music online. Whether we open windows media player, or browse to a favorite radio station's site to listen live, we can't listen. There are no errors, it connects, buffers and looks to be playing, but there's no sound. The speakers are on and work, because we can stop and listen to a cd. I don't see any mute that is on.
Anyone have any ideas??
hey, how do I get my sony z1 to play music on my bluetooth headset?

just want to listen to my music library without any commercials or issueshttp://forums.windowscentral.com/ask-question/445589-i-want-listen-my-library-music-unempeded.html
Hey guys, I am going on holiday in early June and am looking for a way to listen to music while I'm in the pool as I plan to spend a lot of time doing so.
The way I can see it is that I have two options:
Buy a waterproof case and waterproof headphones
buy a waterproof MP3 player all-in-one.
Obviously each option has it's flaws - otherwise I wouldn't be there.
Even if I buy a waterproof case how can I be sure that even though there is a waterproof case, where it contacts with waterproof earphones will be waterproof as 'waterproof' to some sellers just means rain-proof.
The problem with the all in ones like the Sony Waterproof Walkman is that they are very expensive for very little space, the 4GB alone being £50 and 8GB is £80.
Does anyone have experience in the matter, anything they can recommend, preferably I'd like to use my phone in a case for my 32GB MicroSD card, but whatever works I guess.
:big grin: My wife JUST purchase a waterproofed iPad Shuffle from waterfi.com
website is very descriptive and the device is AS Advertised - - she's very happy with it
Hi Guys need some advice, what free be media would you recomend ie: realplayer or quick time or?? Thanks again for any help

Several things of note. First it is absolutely essential that you update to Service Pack 3 because come July 10th XP with Service Pack 2 will no longer be supported. You need some serious updating and it may be a central reason you are experiencing issues..
Second, before you do the above there is a very strong possibility you are still infected. Go to our Virus and Malware Removal forum and read the 8 Step sticky. Follow it step by step -- don't skip any of the steps. When you finish post on that forum with the required logs attached.
Third, since you can boot into Safe Mode there is a good chance your issue is driver related, but unless the above isn't attempted you won't be able to diagnose properly.
Fourth, as a side note, you might want to consider another gig of RAM if your motherboard is designed to do so. XP and two gigs is a good combination.
Fifth, you mention both Avira and Avast. Are both of these installed? Please tell us all the security software you have installed and running in real time protection.
just want to listen to my music library without any commercials or issues
Hi, you haven't mentioned what phone you are using or the OS.
On my Lumia 930 running Win10 mobile, I use the 'Groove Music' app, then go to 'Songs' and 'Shuffle all'.
This then plays my music library (without commercials or issues).

I like to listen to music but I don't want to miss text, mail or call alerts, my WP immediately mutes all alerts. I've looked for settings to change this but can't seem to find any. I used to be able to listen to music through a pair of Sony bluetooth headphones on my Wins 7 laptop. However, I am no unable to do so. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the bluetooth drivers with no success, removed and added the device. I followed a number of the steps in this thread : Bluetooth headset pairs but won't connect, not avail as playback devic , specifically the post from 11th Dec 2014 . Computer has been restarted multiple times.
I've attached an image of what I see. I can connect the headphones to the laptop, but can't listen to music. I also cannot set the headphones to default playback.
Atm, I'm listening through an aux cable, but any additional trouble shooting steps would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Have you tried opening your USB drive and right click and select "sort by" and select the choice you want.
I am running WMP ver 11 on Windows XP.
I moved all my music files from the computer hard drive to my flash drive (sandisk) and want to play and download all music to that drive exclusively.
Maybe I am having a hard time understanding the sync function.....but why cant I just play and set up playlists, etc from that like I was doing when all my files were located, locally on my computers HD?
Is there a better app to use vs WMP? Such as Winamp?
I know that this may not be totally clear but if you get a sense of what I want and am trying to do I would appreciate any help...
open wmp click organise manage then select the usb to "index it" with wmp
may be the little tab under the top tabs, options , manage files , ( search disc ) not on xp at mo so foget exact route

So I am attempting to copy albums I've created using WMP onto a flash drive. When I sync the albums from WMP to the flash drive using WMP everything goes fine. When I checked the albums on the flash drive everything was in order. Here's the problem.
When I removed the flash drive, and then plugged it in again, all the albums showed the first song with no number next to it, and the second song is listed at "1". All the songs are in the right order, but they are numbered incorrectly. I tied two different flash drives to make sure the one I was using was not defective. Same problem with both.
Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong to cause this problem?
This is my first post. Hopefully someone can help me. I have done this many times before on this same computer but for some reason today, no matter how many times I have tried, it will not cooperate. I have two videos and an audio file I am trying to copy from a flash drive to my desktop. These videos will play from the flash drive directly using windows media player. However, when I copy the files to my desktop they will not play. The message of file not found comes up. I have restarted my computer and tries many different flash drives and like I said, this is the first day that this process has not worked. I need some help because I am stumped and the forums on the Microsoft site do not help.

The Sonos Music System can stream music from the internet to ever room in your house wirelessly. To do this one of its components is connected to a router using ethernet cable. However I want to stream music from my external Hard drive via my Thomson TG782T Router to the Sonos Music System.
My Question is: Do I just connect the external Hard drive to the USB port of the Thomson TG782T Router or is it more complicated.
In the absence of detailed instruction (Thomson TG782T Router Manual) i need advise on how to go about it (i.e. test steaming music from this Ext Hard Drive via the router to a PC), prior to purchasing the Sonos Music System.
Thanks is advance.

Normally, you would just drag them (copy, not move) with the mouse--from the external drive to F:Music and Videos. Can't you do that? But I may be misunderstanding you.
First I would decide how many partitions you ultimately want to end up with on your internal drive.
You need the one named system
You need C
You don't need the others.
Plan 1: put all of your personal files on C and subdivide C with a folder structure: Music, Pictures, Video, Work, whatever suits you. 2 total partitions.
Plan 2: put only Windows and programs on C, and put all data on D. Subdivide D with a similar folder structure. 3 total partitions.
Plan 3: Put Windows on C. Use several different data partitions D, E, F, and so on. One for each data type (music, video, pictures, etc). 4 or more total partitions.
I would lean toward plan 2. You seem to have chosen plan 3.
There are advantages and disadvantages to each of those 3 plans. Plan 3 works, but having a bunch of partitions can be wasteful because you can never anticipate the proper size and growth rate of the data type on a partition.
Your pictures partition is already 80% full.
If you know for sure that you want to stay with those particular partitions, you should be able to use that tool to resize them.
Or you could delete all but system and C, then shrink C to maybe 80, then make new D, E, F, etc.
So you have a lot of control.
If you have everything backed up to the external, I would disconnect it temporarily. That way you can't make an error and foul that drive up accidentally with the tool.
You had best confirm what is on H:backups.
What is supposedly on E:C&E Conn and why that peculiar name?
Report back with your ideas and results of moving those files with a mouse.

Goede Morgen !!
Remember that W8 is still technically in BETA so there is more to come out.
Since multi-media and connectivity is very important this I'm sure will be fixed in the final builds of W8.
I shouldn't base your purchasing requirements against what's in a BETA build of an OS. -- Wait till the Final before making that decision -- and meantime use something like Winamp or plenty of other free music playing apps most of which can also stream to and from smart phones etc.
Cheers (Tot Ziens)
I recently purchased a 32 GB San Disk Flash Drive. The security files pre-installed on the drive were junk, and I could not delete them so I formatted the drive to remove them. This cleaned the disk, and it holds data, but I'm not sure if this is part of my problem. I am trying to load my copy of windows 7 onto this disk, and using the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool, I can select my ISO file, but when I go to select my USB drive, my computer does not recognize the flash drive as a flash drive. Is there a way to change the Flash Drive so Windows will recognize my Flash Drive as removable media? Smaller USB drives still work on my computer, so its not the computer. Anyone have any suggestions?
Hello masonta. Welcome to the forum.
Let's start with this: can you post a screenshot of your Disk Management window, expanded so we can read everything, with the USB stick installed?
You also might check in Device Manager to see if the stick shows up as a USB device, or a hard disk.
Searched the tutorial-collection from my problem, but couldn't find one there. So...
I've got my music-collection in a WD World Edition (White Light) -network drive. The path to the music is:
The network drive also carries my photos and my videos.
I understand that I can make symbolic link from that location to the Music -library and that way the music should appear in the the Xbox Music -metro app, because I'd really like to use that app (and other metro apps for photo and video).
The problem is that I don't know how to make that symbolic link. I honestely don't even know wheather it works in W8 or only W7.
Can someone confirm this could be done similar way you can make it happen with SD-card.
To create a symbolic link in windows follow these steps,
1. Go to your Music library and create a sub folder (Can be called anything)
2. Right click on the folder and select Include in Library and then select Music
3. Now delete this sub folder you have just created in the Music folder
4. Open uo command prompt and run as an administrator
5. At the command prompt type the following ...
mklink /d c:\Users\<Username>\Music\ \\Network\MYBOOKWORLD\Public\Shared
6. Press Enter, you should get a message advising the link has been created and that's it
You can repeat this for all libraries you have setup in Windows

I made a small flash movie for a project I am making. Basically, when I preview the movie, everything is in sync, preview it as a swf. But when I try to save it as an avi., or move thde swf. to another computer, the music just goes without the movie, whatever I try.
Is there anything I have done wrong, via importing the music, or maybe how I exported it?
every time i put music in an animation andi go to test it on the stage i push enter to stop the test and the music keeps going! the only way I can stop it is by muting the sound and then demuting it. It's very annoying... Does anyone know how to stop this
Your music that is playing is set as Start, or Event... When you are making the video and testing it, try selecting Stream instead... Click on the spot on the timeline where your music is placed and then under in properties, go to the dropdown menu and select Stream.
ok im kinda new to flash, but one of the projects im workin on is a intro for a clan i'm in. i currently have 2 different ones i have made
i am wanting to insert some background music into this and have a picture flash through between each break between words. is there a way i can do this using code, or is there a program i can use? i have like no money so is there a FREE program i can use?

The xbox music app for Windows 8 will not show any of the music in my library. I have narrowed it down to the fact the all my music on a 2nd hard drive.
If I move a couple of songs to the c drive and add that folder to my library, they will show up. However nothing in my library that is on the 2nd hard drive will show up
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Make sure your index is searching and indexing those folders on the second drive - Xbox music (and videos, for that matter) only see media that has been indexed by search. You may want to look at the search/indexing options in the control panel to make sure the folders containing your media are being indexed - if they are, give the index a rebuild. That can fix things (I find that on my tablet sometimes).http://www.eightforums.com/software-apps/11831-xbox-music-app-music-2nd-drive.html
I would like to transfer all of the files on 1 flash drive to another flash drive. Dragging them takes too long. Is there a quicker way to transfer the files?
There really isn't another way to copy them. They have to physically read from one device and write on another. Depending on size of files and how many, it can indeed take a while. The only thing that would speed up the process is if you had USB 3.0 drives. I assume you are using 2.0.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/607965/transferring-data-from-1-flash-drive-to-another-flash-drive/

Webmasters or webdesigners should know I think?
Hi!I use these players http://www.funsoundplayer.com for a few years. There are two players here. Both are great. The first one (Fun SoundPlayer Maker) is exactly what you're looking for if you want to create flash players as buttons - it has a lot of different player's designs and buttons are among them. But my favorite is the second one - FlashWAmp - the greatest stuff ever ! Take any winamp skin and convert it into a web sound player. So, try them and choose which you like more.If you'll have any questions - kindly ask me, I have some experience of creating and publishing players with these utilities.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/152898/software-to-create-flash-music-players-and-buttons-for-website/
My problem is when i play both Music player (Windows Media Player/Winamp/iTune/Youtube/KMPlayer) with any Mini Flash Games, the sound sounded like corrupted files. i try playing them separate (like closing the flash game while playing the music), somehow the sound was fine. I get the feeling its got to with the flash but im not sure how. Any idea how can i solve this problem?
It never happen before.

Sorry I am a computer novice; but, I am running out of hard drive C space and I thought maybe I could put Recovery Drive D on a flash drive in order to free up drive C space.
If this is possible, can you refer me to some instructions on how to do this?
Thanks in advance for your help.
To be honest a recovery drive won't give you much space (10 GB or so?). You are better off with a USB external HDD and move your less accessed data to the external.
I wonder what others will say.
Running Windows XP. Moved all my music from I Tunes in C Drive over to our newly added internal hard drive D. I want to be able to click on MY Music in C Drive and it automatically go to D drive but don't know how to do that.
I put a shortcut to the 2nd hard drive on my desk top and access the music folder from there.

I have a similar problem to a question asked in 2011- mine is on an Acer Veriton without optical drive. So I followed the advice there and changed the SATA BIOS from AHCI to Native IDE. The result of that was that I never go as far as the select partition screen - just the BSOD!I reset the BIOS and got the same result. So now I can't get anything to work on installing XP - yuck! The BSOD gave advice to use CHKDSK /f but as I don't have anything yet installed, I have no way of doing it. Now I have an unusable PC, thanks to WinToFlash.Tony
Can't comment on that old post unless you give a link - no idea how you found it. Maybe it (or your hardware) was not similar enough."I reset the BIOS"Do you mean you put the settings back to the way you found them or did you do a BIOS reset? Please provide the model number of your computer.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derekhttp://www.computing.net/answers/windows-xp/fail-to-install-from-flash-drive-setup-says-drive-corrupted/203386.html
I have couple of excel/word files that I store on my Jump drive, but I would like to synchronize it with my hard drive, I.e. keep a second copy of it on my hard drive. whats the easiest way to do it? and on the bigger note, How to synchronize certain files between laptop/desktop/jumdrive(USB Flash drive) and PDA??
Welcome to TSG.
The easy way to sync the files is to use the Briefcase for the files and the jump drive. The PDA part, I no can help with.
Basically, I want to use my usb flash drive or daemon tools to burn music and then rip into lossless formats. I tried optical storage, but has not given good results lately despite the fact the cd-rw is new. With USB drive, it is a u3 flash drive 1gb from sandisk. And I have daemon tools lite on windows 7. All I know is the main idea is to have one of the two(if possible) be passed as a cd burner. The only problem is, I do not know how to do that, and any help is appreciated.
Hi Pheonix220. Welcome .
Daemon Tools is a disk emulator, which means that it will create 'images' or ISOs from a CD or other source and can then "mount" it so that it appears to be a physical drive on your system.
I'm not sure exactly what your goal is, but I find it unlikely that Daemon Tools will be of use unless you want to creae ISOs of music for mounting and playing?
If you are more specific about what your needs are, perhaps we can be more helpful.
After Transferring file from Seagate External drive to flash drive 16G. (Verbatim)
I can't remove hardware device on Verbatim Flash drive to remove it.
Even after I close all the files, folders and programs in my computer.
It won't say "safe to remove device".
I have to switch off the computer to remove the flash drive.
Is this normal or what ?
If not what can be the problem ? I can fix ?
Is it safe to remove device even if I can't disable the usb flash drive ?
I closed all the files, fodlers and programs before I remove.
The computer may still be saving data to the Flash. Or it is caught in ROM. If your certain the transfer is complete, you can pull the drive. You may want to do a Check Disk on the Flash Drive to make sure it is in good order.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/transferring-file-from-seagate-external-drive-to-flash-drive-634069.html

I would be tempted to reload the motherboard chipset drivers. They control the USB I/O and if they are just the default WIndows ones, they may not be 100% OK with the specific motherboard hardware.

Well, you are going to have problems... Sorry to say...
First off, most PCs with SATA drives will have an option in the BIOS to place it in IDE mode. This assures that Windows Setup will be able to detect it as a drive with the ability to be installed to.
As for USB drives, it all depends on your BIOS version and manufacturer. Toshiba for example, does not support ANY usb device unless it is made by their company. It sucks, yes, but i guess for more money for crappy products.
You can install the drivers to a flash drive, but you will also have to make a bootable image to that drive, and load your windows setup files, manually format and partition the drive, copy the files over, then start the setup process to do that. It is a huge hassle that I had to deal with on a Toshiba Portege 3500.
Backing up is a bit easier. You can use the built in windows backup software (Start>All Programs>Accessories>System tools> Backup) and make a complete backup to an external drive to restore after format. The problem is YOU WILL ALSO TRANSFER THE VIRUSES YOU HAVE!!!
If you use the file and settings transfer wizard, you can transfer most of your stuff, but you WILL HAVE TO REINSTALL A LOT OF YOUR SOFTWARE, as it will not transfer your registry entries.
Your best bet is to get an Antivirus/spyware removal tool (Such as www.superantispyware.com) and an anti MAlware software (such as Malwayebytes). This will clear most of your infections, and gives you more time to backup your files and get software discs ready.

Hi First of all I have done a Windows repair install which has solved some problems with my windows however the repair install didn't slove these problems Autoplay for USB Flash Drives identified is Drive a Flash Drive Disk USB as Hard and listing one USB Flash Drive as a HDD But USB Flash Drive is still identified as a Hard Disk Drive although it is a USB Flash Drive I have three USB Flash Drives with the same brand 'SanDisk' Two of which are GB One of which is USB Flash Drive is identified as a Hard Disk Drive GB However one of them is dealt identified as a HDD however the other two are dealt as a Removable Storage USB Drive Once one of them dealt as a HDD is plugged to the PC then it is listed under the Hard Disk Drives on my computer Screen shot below The Flash Drive whose assigned letter is 'I' is dealt as a HDD and even its icon USB Flash Drive is identified as a Hard Disk Drive in the disk management is similar to a HDD However the assigned letter 'L' is for a USB HDD Also when opening the disk management and clicking 'right click' on it then I see the all the options such as 'delete option' and 'mark partition as active' specific for a hard disk partition are active not grayed out screen shot below Also via disk management I could 'delete' a USB Flash Drive and recreated it as the way of dealing with Hard disk partition Screen shots below Besides When clicking 'right click' on the USB Flash Drive listed under Hard disk drivers I don't see an 'eject option' as what happens for any Hard disk partition ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- However the other two USB Flash Drives are identified as USB Flash Drives and are always listed under removable storage screen shot below Also in the disk management once clicking 'right click' on any USB Flash Drive identified as USB Flash Drives the options such as 'delete option' and mark partition specific for a HDD are inactive 'grayed out' screen shot below Also When clicking on the USB Flash Drives listed under removable storage I see 'eject option' ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Moreover Although the 'use autoplay for all media and devices' are checked Only the Autoplay of any USB Hard disk drives and optical discs are functioning well However the Autoplay of any USB Flash drives dealt as a Removable storage USB Flash Drives is not functioning for instance the two USB Flash Drives dealt identified as Removable Storage But the autoplay of the one USB Flash Drive dealt identified as a HDD is only functioning well Screen shot below Also when clicking 'right click' on a HDD or an optical disc inserted onto the optical drive then there is an 'open autoplay' option listed screen shot below Also for the one USB Flash Drive identified as HDD there is an 'open autoplay' option listed under clicking 'right click' it Screen shot below However for the two USB Flash Drives identified as USB Flash Drives there are no 'open autoplay' option after clicking 'right click' on them screen shot below
Transfer your data to your computer.
Open command prompt with administrator privileges by going to Start,All Programs,Accessories,Command Prompt.Right click it and select "Run as administrator".
Type diskpart. Then type list disk.Find your USB drives and type select disk 3 if it is one of them. You can know by their size.DON'T select disk 0.It's your Windows drive. Then type clean.
Don't type it if you don't have backed up your files on the drive. This will delete the drive.
Then do the same for your other drive. If it is disk 4,type select disk 4 and then clean.
If I helped you,say it.

When I use DVD Flick Burning files mpg files or Nero burning audio cd from mp3s.
Does it matter whether I burn from source hard drive or flash drive ?
Is it better to copy files to hard drive first before burning ?
Is it less chance of getting errors ? Or doesn't make any difference ?
Since flash drive doesn't have any parts to wear out.
Is it better to use flash drive as source or it doesn't make any difference to wearing of the hard drive ? I think it still wears out hard drive in any case regardless what source you from, but does it make any difference ?
It makes no difference. You can use either method. Flash drives can transfer the data to the cache and DVD drive fast enough to avoid any buffer underrun errors.

My question is in refrence to external hard drives. Is there an external hard drive out there that has similar properties to that of a flash drive. What I mean by this is can I get an external hard drive that I can drag items to it to save and just as easily access the file by opening the drive. So far I have two external hard drives and they are both similar in the fact that I can back up my files on them but I can't access them on the hard drive itself, I would actually have to recover files on my computer. Can anyone enlighten me on this issue.
Yes there are lots of external USB hard drives out there but I find even on Newegg that alot of them get crappy reviews for having bad software or not syncing correctly. They can get into very large sizes however like up to 2terabytes or more depending on what your budget is
That is a 640gb external hard drive pretty simple to use just plug it in and store your stuff. including data files for when you backing up your pc. Personally I shop at Frys Electronics they always have good deals but newegg has a big selection and sells things cheaper than Frys alot of the time
Apparently I need 5 posts to start doing links so below this post is the link to the external drive
I have had two Maxtor external hard drives fail on my wife's PC. Each one has only lasted 18 months or less. Even though the backup process was easy and automatic I am considering going with a Flash USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Thumb-type Drive to manually backup important files and images. Is there anything wrong with this method of backup that I'm unaware of?
My wife's PC has genealogy software with lots of files and associated images, etc. (for over 40,000 people), which is about 10GB in size. It is this information that needs to be backed-up whenever additions/changes are made.
I am thinking about replacing the [most recently] expired Maxtor external hard drive with either a 16GB or 32GB Flash USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Thumb-type Drive. Is this a reasonable method for backup? Which GB size would you recommend? Brand?
I'm in the process of moving to an SSD and need to create a backup drive in order to repair the BIOS after transferring everything However flash Create recovery drive won't drive a recognize when I try to create one - the create a recovery drive program won't recognize the flash drive I have connected as a flash Create a recovery drive won't recognize flash drive drive I first tried with a SanDisk Cruzer which apparently had a quirk in that it Create a recovery drive won't recognize flash drive shows up as a hard drive instead of removable flash drive That seems to be well documented on forums all over the place and there is no fix So I purchased a cheap GB stick no brand and Windows I'm running x recognizes it as a removable disk However the create a backup utility still won't recognize it I've Create a recovery drive won't recognize flash drive found some random fixes that have worked for some such as plugging it into a different USB port but nothing has worked for me so far I've tried doing it with the quot copy the recovery partition quot option both checked and unchecked If there's no solution to this wonderful quot quirk quot of Windows then is there something else I can do to repair BIOS Seems like there's not a fix to my problem out there EDIT So as of right now I tried using HPs recovery software which seems to do the same thing as copying over your entire recovery partition That didn't work either However when I had both USB sticks plugged in the Windows supplied utility recognized the SanDisk Cruzer when I checked the quot copy the partition quot thing so this might be solved
You might save yourself a lot of aggravation by down loading a free copy of Macrium Reflect, you can make a Disk Image that can be restored to any drive it will fit on. or just copy/clone to your SSD. just make sure your current drive doesn't have more data than will fit on the SSD, Reflect will adjust the C: partition size
The recovery USB needs to work they are not created equal if Reflect doesn't recognize it get another one that will. I can't help you with the other program you are using Reflect is known to work for everyone.
My office workstation running Windows XP Pro is connected to the corporate network (Active Directory) so that I have storage space on the server. When I plug in a USB flash drive (any make), it takes over my network home directory drive letter. I can reassign the flash drive via disk management, but that is a pain, as I use flash drives a lot. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Our tech does not have a solution. It does not appear to be a problem on any other workstations on the system.
I am using win XP. I bought a generic flash drive and it worked well for two days. Now, my computer shows it as a removable drive, but when I try to access it, it asks me to insert a disc into it!!
Also, when I click properties - it shows there is no capacity on the flash drive. I am a beginner with computers, I would appreciate some help in layman terms. Thank you.
Did your Flash come with any software? Xp is obviously confused as to exactly what the drive is .
It may be that the drive is full. Try formatting it .Right click on the drive in My Computer.
If there is a Web page for the Drive see if they have drivers for it .Download the file.
Often you can plug the drive in and go to Device Manager . there you can uninstall the drive by right clicking on it and uninstall. Then reboot with the drive left in.Xp will try to install drivers when you get back to Desktop.Cancel that and use the Hardware Wizard to search for the drivers .Here you choose the device from the lists that are offered to you. That of course is if your drive is listed.
I just noticed my computer doing this today, i don't think its done it before.. anyway every time i insert my flash drive its a different drive letter, going in order. Like it went from N to O to P to Q.. Why won't it just use the same one (first available) each time? I've gone into disk management and set a drive letter but it doesn't stick, when I reinsert the drive its different again. It seems like windows doesn't want to recognize that this is the same drive, so each time it thinks its a new device.
Do you remove is safely (using the icon in the system tray that looks like a oblique shot of a card with an arrow pointing down and left?)http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/different-drive-letter-each-time-i-insert-my-flash-drive-102621.html
I have tried installing Anti-virus software on a flash drive. However, the Avti-virus will only run from the flash drive on the machine that I installed it from. Indicating a registry association.I need anti-virus software that will run from a flash drive on any machine running windows. Preferably, not bloatware like McAfee. Anybody know of any?
Thanks for help. PS. McAfee won't
Stinger.exe will run from a flash drive an will seek out and find most of the more recent worms and viruses. You can find it here:
I would think for any full fledged av program you could put the exe. file on the flash drive and then install it on most any computer. Such programs as Avast, Antivir, and AVG should work in that manner.
This may be a silly question but here goes. I was wondering if it is possible to put a CD into the CD Rom drive and copy the music to your hard drive. My computer doesn't seem to be able to copy CD's from one drive to the other. I was thinking that if I could get the music onto the hard drive I would be able to burn it from there. I don't even know if this is possible but thought I'd ask. If anyone is going to know about this, it's you guys here.
Hope someone has an answer for me. Thanks ahead of time.
Most CDR progrms have a copy to image option which is what you want. What problems are you having now?
I have several music files I want to load to Groove so I can play them. I have successfully add a few only, but many when I try to play the ones that won't go to groove every thing just hangs or tries to got to windows media, can some help me understand how to load the files to groove?

I am currently trying to move all my music from my laptop (windows xp) onto external hard drive.
My external hard drive has a storage of 80k, and is now full. But I still have music on my laptop that needs moving.
I know there are loads of duplicate songs on my external hardrive, which is taking up much needed space , I have sorted by name, and began to delete duplicates manually, I need a shave after deleting two hundred, it takes ages.
Does anyone please know, how I might delete duplicate files off my external drive, to free up more space ?
edit : spelling error
Does anyone know of a tweek app or a set of instructions that will allow me to 'move' my music and videos to it's own drive?
Also I would like to know if it is possible to have My Videos show up oin the start menu below My Music?
Download Tweak UI from Microsoft. To change the location of the folders, the setting should be under My Computer -> Special Folders inside Tweak UI
Changing the start menu I think would require modifying system files which could easily damage your operating system.
If you wish to go ahead with this, you'll need to use a tool called the Resource Hacker - an extremely powerful, yet dangerous tool. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK, AND ALWAYS MAKE BACKUPS OF THINGS YOU CHANGE!!!!!

Ok so i would really like to get rid of the C: folder inside the music folder. I have no idea what its doing there and its making Windows Media Player and iTunes get every music file from the C: drive. That means all the sounds from my games and such get imported. It would be alot easier if i could just unassociate the C: drive in my Music folder. Can anyone help?
How did the C: get into the music folder? Probably by some drag and drop that went wrong - bad habit those drag and drops. Now you have to move it back where it belongs which is "Computer".http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/139962-c-drive-music-folder.html
I've been trying to play music cd's in my cd-rom drive but no sound comes through. So when I took the cover off of the CPU, i
found that a cable marked "Audio" was plugged into the back of the cd-rom drive but the other end of the cable is not plugged into anything. Can anybody help me??
Look on the sound card for a 4 pin connector labeled "in01" or "CD1" or something like that, it should be plugged in there.
My cd drive tries to read every 5 minutes or so, even if no disc is in the drive. When it does this, it interrupts whatever music/video player i am using, whether it is mp3's or streaming radio. The interruption lasts for only a couple of seconds, but pretty much ruins the song. I have several music players installed - rhapsody, music match, i tunes, win media player, etc.
System is a Dell Dimension 8200, 1.99 ghz, 768 mb ram running XP. CD drive is NEC NR-7900A.
it may be the cd drive is on the way out.........otherwise it seems the settings are leading the drive to believe that you are playing a CD track
Since I bought my Vista PC I could not get the Autoplay feature to work and had to access all CDs and DVDs through the DVD drive on My Computer. That worked OK till now - I clicked on a music CD and it would open and play in Windows Media Player. Now when I click on the CD an Application Not Found message appears. To play it I have to right click the CD, click Open to reveal the tracks, left click on a track and the CD then opens and plays in WMP. Can anyone advise me how I can fix this. Is this a DVD problem or a Vista problem.
Also how can I get Autoplay to work- I have followed the correct Vista procedure for Autoplay but it doesn't work.
this may helphttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/dvd-drive-will-not-play-music-cd-325453.html

I just got a new/used Acer Aspire One laptop. The OS on the Acer and my home computer (a Gateway laptop) is Win 7 Home 32 bit. A Cruzer 4gb USB flash drive came with the Acer laptop.
The USB flash drive has been split up. 3.73gb's is on the original (drive letter G) and 97meg's is on a virtual drive (drive letter F). According to Win 7 computer management. The virtual drive on the USB stick is locked. Every attempt to dump the virtual drive and make the hole USB flash drive 4gb's with 1 drive letter have hit a dead end. I can reformat the 3.73gb on the original drive letter G but the virtual drive F remains read only. And I don't need the prog stored there anyways.

I found one method that works. Since acquiring my computer I've not bothered with the large SSD slot on side of flatscreen all-in-one monitor. I got thinking, I have a Bell micro-sd adapter, I wondered what would occur if I slipped the chip out of my thumbdrive adapter [which connects via a USB port/hub] put it in the larger adapter & then slid that into the SSD slot on the computer. PRESTO! The system automatically recognized it & opened it as a media device under :F drive. This may be the only way I can do photo & video stuff from my micro-SD memory card from here on out. But, I still think it doesn't explain WHY I can't do it the other way by using the thumb drive adapter that plugs into the USB. The computer should open up the flash drive...or if I had my Duracell memory stick inserted, the computer should recognize something is in the USB port & open that...but it's not. So, still in need of some answers. But for the interim I've found a satisfactory alternative.http://www.eightforums.com/drivers-hardware/42748-flash-drive-connected-usb-hub-where-drive-located.html
I forgot my password to login to Windows. I always use the number keypad password when logging on, but now the only option is the password, which I forgot. IMy Gateway won't boot from the CDdrive or a flassh drive. I have changed the boot order in BIOS, but it goes from the hard drive anyway.
My metro apps were minimizing after 10 seconds or so. I saw a post that it could be amtivirus related, so I downloaded tools to remove the ones I had used the past year. Malwarebytes' uninstaller clean up progrm told me it needed to reboot in safe mode. I let it do so.
I only can press DEL for BIOS setup or F12. I don't have a way to change it out of safe mode.
The Metro app issue could be from a recent Windows update.
Which is better, a usb flash drive or external hard drive for pics?
A buddy of mine and I were talking about performance and the future of storage device when we started wondering why Flash drives aren t used as hard drives NV-RAM is dependable why isn t it finding its way into every PC to replace drive question... hard drive Flash the magnetic platter approach We aren t electronic engineers Flash drive hard drive question... of course but we can only imagine it comes from the cost of putting a gig flash drive into a PC but if the device can take up the space of a quot HD would cost still be such a problem Our other thought was heat but if a RPM drive doesn t overheat why would a flash drive Any input is of course appreciated hope noone loses sleep on this Or maybe someone knows the answer already PS I do Flash drive hard drive question... remember hearing Samsung is going to start production of a very lare thumb drive gig I think so this just adds to the problem if the little keychain can hold gigs why isn t there a flash hard drive nbsp
