HP Pavilion dv6911om - unable to install Vista on new hard drive

Q: HP Pavilion dv6911om - unable to install Vista on new hard drive

The old hard drive completely failed to the point that I am unable to recover any data on it. So I put in a new hard drive and went to reinstall Vista and got the lovely error about needing to load a driver for the hard drive. I've tried every Vista driver listed and it won't load the driver for the hard drive. I flashed the BIOS, still no luck. The BIOS does not offer any options to change the settings on how to read the hard drive.

Any suggestions on what else I could try?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Somewhere in your bios there will be a setting to select which mode the hard drive is running in. You may well have a SATA drive which Vista should have drivers for but in this case you need to set the hard drive to run in IDE mode then it should install. After installation load all the mobo drivers which should then allow you to set the HD back to sata/raid operation which is much faster.

Ok so i am trying to do a clean install on a seagate 1tb drive and it will not see the harddrive. when i tried a 7 disk it saw the drive no problem. my motherboard is a MS-7548. i have tried diffrent sata cable and a diffrent port. the drive shows up in the bios but not in the vista install. when i tried to install xp as someone had advised it BSOD with a 0x07B. i am kind of at a wall at this point in time. i have to have a vista install as that is the only one that i have a key to.

i also hooked it up to another computer and it work and saw the drive and i tried to install vista on it then but i got a boot failure when i put it in the computer it is supposed to be in.

Hi @wreavesjr! You can install another HDD in the PC since there's a free SATA port.As for the power cable, if your has multiple SATA connectors you can use it to plug the secondary HDD to the system as well. Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions you may have. Cheers!

A:Re: install a second hard drive on pavilion 550-126

MBR or NTFS partitions are limited to 2 TB (without using dynamic disks and volume sets). If you are installing a hard drive that is 2 TB or greater, HP recommends formatting the drive using GPT partitions.

I bought a language course CD and want to install it to my laptop Hard Drive to avoid taking the docking station with me on my trips. But, even after copying everything to the HD, and trying to open every .exe file I could find on the HD, the program will not run because it does not search the HD for the files it needs - it looks only at the CD drive.

How can I tell it to look at the HD for the files it needs to open the program?

I am using a Lenovo thinkpad X60 running XP Pro SP2.

I have currently decided to get rid of my old hd and replaced it with a new one. my problem is that my windows xp disc was scratched beyond recognition, so i bought a new one and it still will not be recognized as a valid windows cd. i have tried booting my old hd back up again and it will NOT read anything or boot windows. I have tried to fix boot sectors, partitions and reset the MBR on that drive and it still does not work.

So i have been trying to install windows xp with the new disc onto the new harddrive and the disc still isnt recognized as being a valid windows cd.

Any help, comments, solutions, suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi all. Looking for a bit of advice. Originally got message - Disk read error occurred press ctl alt del to restart. Then tried plugging this drive using a USB connector into my desktop PC to see if I could run some chkdsk. Then my desktop PC displayed messages telling me my firewall and virus software had been turned off and the computer crashed. ROOTKIT? So I was left with 2 drives not working. I re installed windows on desktop but using ISO on flash drive BUT can't on the 500GB Hitachi HTS545050B9SA00 for some reason. Windows setup loaded and Deleted old partitions and formatted. When I tried to install, it froze. It now just boots up with a windows loading screen and I'm also unable to boot from flash drive as it freezes. Any suggestions anyone? My girlfriend has an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC Special Edition The computer is a little more than and a half years old months ago her OS crashed and I used a Ubuntu live CD to recover all her files before formatting and starting from scratch In the last weeks her computer has frequently locked down or just gone to a black screen forcing restarts Yesterday we were playing WoW and everything just froze We ended up having to hold the power button down to force a shut down When (Vista) drive hard format Unable to we turned it back on it got perpetually stuck at either the Vista loading screen a black screen with a flashing though unresponsive control prompt or a repair Unable to format hard drive (Vista) manager screen with several options all of which sent you back to the beginning to get stuck in this loop again We decided we'd need to format so I popped in the Ubuntu CD and force mounted her hard drive The hard drive just contained a bunch of empty folders yet said that only gigs out of gigs were free Luckily we still had the backup from a few months ago so we decide to still format the drive In goes the Windows Vista install disk Pressing F gets to a screen with many boot options such as Safe Mode Last Known Good Setting Normal and many more No matter what is selected we are taken to the HP recovery manager In the recovery manager there is no quot advanced options quot button We click quot next quot after the welcome screen and then select the quot yes quot button at the warning screen Next comes the quot factory image recovery quot screen with a progress bar An error message immediately pops up that reads quot Error x A If this issue continues please contact HP Support quot We're not contacting HP support because they charge for tech support My question How do I format this hard drive and reinstall Windows Vista Is that even possible at this point or has the hard drive failed Thanks

Greetings!

I'm installing Win7 64bit Home Premium on a Dell Inspiron 1545.
Right after the Starting Winoews logo screen it gets stuck at a Dos terminal.
Withing the Dos terminal it says: X:\windows\system32>
The window itself is titled Administrator: X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe

I am using the OEM disk that came with the laptop and I also downloaded one from Dell's website. Both give the same error.

Thank you for any help you can give.

A:Unable to install Win7 to new hard drive. X:\windows\system32> error.

Try to get into Command prompt of the Repair section of your installation disk and run those commands: (each individually and followed by Enter)

Diskpart
List disk
Select disk n (where n is the number that was given for your HDD in List disk)
Clean
Create partition primary
Format fs=ntfs quick
Active
Exit

Then try to install into that partition.

A:Trying to install Vista on my new hard drive.

Hello,
Because your install got a little farther after cleaning the CD, I would suspect that it is a media problem, DVD drive issue, or a little of both. If you have the iso file, burn the iso again at the lowest speed (4X should be fine) and see if the install completes.

hi all,

Took out my old ide 160gb hard drive and swapped it for a WD 500gb (sata).

After posting it'll come to a screen that says hard disk not detected but will immediately start gathering the files for install from vista. After I enter the key for vista, I choose custom install and can see the hard drive and have the options to 'delete, format, new' etc.

No matter what I've tried, I can't go to the next screen. Clueless as to what to do. Do I have to format the hard drive from a different PC before I install an OS onto it?

First let me say I HATE Vista, what a POS. I'm sorry, I just had to say it and I feel much better now.

I have a new WD hard drive. I installed the drive and it says the software was installed successfully when I rebooted the system and it shows in device manager with no problems indicated except it says it's not initialized. So how the heck do you initialize/format the drive in Vista. The drive does not show anywhere but device manager, the CD that comes with the hard drive does not provide any software for Vista (98,XP, NT only) and there is not one damn word in the manual with the drive about what to do with Vista.

How do I get this hard drive formatted and running in vista, help me please help?

Thanks

Hey all

I have Vista installed on my laptops internal hard drive (which I think is failing) can I install and use Vista on a portable 1TB hard drive?

I've read that because it's not an external hard drive, it has no power source and works like a USB drive but I'm not sure how that would affect performance if I installed an OS on it?

I think it's a Seagate 1TB Backup Plus Slim Portable Drive.

Thanks

A:Can I install Vista on portable hard drive?

In a word, the answer is no.
The ability to run a live Windows system on a USB device was a new feature in Windows 8 Enterprise called Windows To Go.
It is possible, with some effort, to create a Windows To Go workspace with any edition of Windows 8.
Other Windows versions (Vista, 7) are not portable because of how drivers are handled.
In the past, Windows had always considered USB devices as "input devices" and not suitable for use as a system drive.

I also own an older Mac (Intel) computer. Interestingly, I can run the Mac from a system loaded on an external drive, either USB or Firewire, no problems at all, in fact several systems on multiple partitions. Speed is a little pokey but acceptable.

Why not just get a new HDD?

First of all I bought my laptop dv 6000 series with vista preinstalled and finally replaced the non-working hard drive. I used the windows anytime upgrade disk to reinstall vista on my new hard drive, but I didnt' know it was a clean install so now I don't have any of the default programs, recovery partition or drivers. Is there anyway I can get all those back? When installing vista from the upgrade disc, it ask me to enter the product key so I entered that. Now, in control panel, system settings it says I have a certain amount of days until automatic activation and it shows a OEM product key, not the one on the bottom of my laptop. Will there be a problem re-activating it again?

A:New hard drive install and vista reactivation

there shouldnt be a problem reactivating it. they keys can be used three times i think. and if there is a problem just call microsoft and activate over the phone, tell them you had to reformat and they will just give a new key for free.

The only way i can think of to get your programs and things back is if you had a recovery disk not the anytime upgrade disk. sorry.

A:How do I partition my hard drive and install Vista

Hi, from Another Old Guy .

Yes, your AMD processor supports 64-bit operating systems, so no problem there.

You can only install one operating system on one partition...sharing not a possibility that the user will like.

So....how big is your current hard drive?

How much free space is on it?

How many hard drives are installed on the system?

Do you have any program which can be used for disk partitioning, resizing, etc...like Partition Magic?

The easiest way to do what you want...would be to install Vista on a separate hard drive, rather than install both O/Ses on one hard drive.

...and there's nothing wrong with asking the grandkids for help . Some of our "frequent fliers" here probably could qualify for that group and their knowledge is appreciated.

A:can't install vista after formating my hard drive

and welcome to the Forum

It's likely it encountered a SATA hard drive . . you will need the drivers for that to install XP.

Have you verified that XP drivers are available for that pc? You may be better installing Windows 7

I'm trying to fix this emachine t3604 vista pc, its about 1 years old, first the issue it was doing was whenever you boot the pc it gave a MBR error during the POST proccess. So I atempted to reinstall vista with the restore cd but when vista setup goes to the part where you choose a drive to install to, the list is blank, no drives to choose from. So I thought hmmm the hard drive is no good, so I got a new oem drive sata from newegg and same issue. I even try loading a sata driver option from the same setup screen but still blank.

Anyone have an idea whats going on here?

A:install second hard drive for dimension 2400 and get vista on it?

Hi

As Vista is the new OS, when you install it, it should see your old OS and create a boot loader, allowing you to choose at startup which OS to choose.

But 15GIG for an OS, another reason not to bother with Vista, I mean what the hell takes 15 GB of space, i'll tell ya, a full copy of Vista as a backup plus space to store all the keystrokes for a month, see told ya I was paranoid....

Hi I recently bought a new hard drive WD Caviar Green TB in system spec due to a a failed Hitachi TB drive and I have no other internal drive attached to my system I'm therefore trying to install a fresh copy of Vista Home Premium on the new drive but I can't get this to work and I cannot format the drive through the option on the Vista install CD I've searched through different drive or Home Premium install Vista Cannot format hard new forums and have found that the problem may be that the nVidia chipset on my motherboard will not support hard drives gt TB I've therefore tried to install the updated nVidia SATA drivers through the Vista install CD driver function but this hasn't worked I've also run the MiniTool Partition Wizard as a boot disk which recognises the drive but when I try and format it it runs the format but labels it a quot Bad Disk quot and the format fails Cannot format new hard drive or install Vista Home Premium I'd like to try and split the disk into x TB partitions so as to be under the TB but it understandably won't do this until I've formatted the disk itself The disk is recognised in the BIOS by the Vista install CD and by the Partition software all with the correct TB file size so I don't think there is a problem with the disk itself or the connections As I'm now struggling to come up with anything else to try I wondered if anyone had any ideas Thanks Stuart

A friend brought me her Dell Vista Home Premium computer and told me that the old hard drive had failed.  She was afraid to swap out the hard drive and I told her I would help.  She got a new 500 gig hard drive which I installed.  No problem in hooking up the sata and power connectors.  The CD/DVD drive as well as the Seagate hard drive are both recognized in BIOS.

She received a Windows Vista 32 bit Disc operating system disk from Dell.  Dell also sent her drivers.

My problem is that after I've set the #1 boot priority to CD/DVD and restarted the computer does not boot from the installation disc.  It shows a notice that there is no boot device.

I thought this would be a simple install.  Not sure what I should do.  I would sure appreciate any assistance.  Thanks in advance.

A:[SOLVED] Vista Reinstallation,on reformated hard drive, will not install

Hey Kevin,

It seems as though the CD your using is missing important files which are needed to install your OS. There is not much you can really do about this, except request a new CD and try that. Usually with Vista a seperate partition is created and the Vista installation files are stored there, if you've reformatted the hard-drive then you have most likely deleted all these files.

Try requesting for a new CD and then retry the installation.

Hope this helps!

Hello Joe, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You would just do a clean install of Vista as usual, but select the formatted HDD "X" that you want to install it on during installation.
Clean Install with a Full Version of VistaWhatever OS you startup, it's drive will have the C letter by default. Even if it's not C in another OS.

Hope this helps,

I'm tryin' to re-install the OS using the recovery cds (1 & 2). However, it's not working. I've followed the instructions to the letter. The instructions, on the HP website, state that when the recovery cd #1 is in the drive it will automatically start the re-install process. But, it doesn't happen.1. Insert disc in drive.2. Turn on computer.3. It jumps to the "loading windows files" status bar at the bottom of the screen (black).4. Then it turns windows, nothing is wrong with me, blue.5. Then, a DOS windows opens with "X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe" in the title bar. Within the DOS window it says,"SHOW SERVICE MESSAGE IF EXIST...DETERMINING USER PARTITION'S DRIVE LETTER" It never gets any further, no matter how long I wait. The drive light stops blinking.I appreciate any constructive help offered & thanks in advance.

They left out a step in the instructions, with the disc in the drive and restart the PC, start tapping F9 key repeatedly when you see the HP logo, this should bring up the advanced boot options page, select your cd/dvd drive and hit enter key several times.

With VERY FEW HOURS of operating time on this machine, it appears that the 1TB hard drive has failed. (No boot disc error message) Although running HP extebsive diadnostic reports all OK. Have removed and reinstalled the HD several times as per one suggestion and used contact cleaner with no results. Highly dissapointed at this time and with more than 17,000 youtube views from "others" along with many others experiencing the same issue on other forums. In my opinion having been a quality control engineer/manager in manufacturing, HP should have extended the warranty to purchasers of this computer at no cost and performed repairs to consumers at no cost for a known issue.

A:New hard drive for Pavilion 4535

It may not be a bad drive, your IDE cables may be loose check them out first at the hard drive and motherboard just push on the back of the connector first may be the problem can't hurt to check. And if you do need a new hard drive you can use any IDE hard drive but your capacity may be limited, it would be safe not to go over 60GB. Then you'll have to partition and format and install the OS.

Can I add a hard drive to a Pavilion x2 10-n100na? I've noticed that some models in this range, eg. the Pavilion x2 10-n107na, have a 1TB drive. These 2 machines appear the same externally, so I'm wondering if the 10-100na has all the internal connections required such that I could slot in my own hard drive. Any responses gratefully received. @Huffer?I notice that the manual states that this is for select models only, but unfortunately there is not any information as to which ones they are. I would have to  disagree with you and say no. You can't add a hard drive unless your x2 is one of the special types.   You will notice in the manual that even the keyboard, cover and bas enclosure are different. Take a really close look at the manual.

The hard drive on my HP Pavilion p7-1380t died and needed to be replaced. I purchased the same model drive and the correct recovery discs from HP. I installed the hard drive, turned on the computer, inserted disc 1, turned off and on - nothing happened, blank screen. I checked all connections, checked the monitor with my laptop and tried again. Power to both the hard drive and DVDs drive appears to be ok, still nothing.

Galilee Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about wanting to restore your PC and wanted to help -- but need more information. Your PC did not come with Win10 preinstalled, so if you were to order HP Recovery Media and use that, it would restore the original operating system, drivers, and HP utilities.  I presume this is NOT what you want, right? So, while you can make Win10 media to recover your PC, it would be a clean-install and nothing would be preserved. You can make such media using this tool: Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool - Windows Help Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-bit).  While you CAN change these settings, do NOT. If you do, the resulting media will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code! Good Luck

Hi, I currently have a 1 TB HDD in my laptop, but with Windows 10, my disk usage is often 100% (even after disabling a lot of stuff). I would like to upgrade to an SSD. I have a few questions that I would like your help with: Is it allowed to upgrade to SSD? (I mean does the BIOS check something like hardware signatures, and would it reject a new drive?)Should I look for a particular size when searching SSDs online? Will I be able to retain my Windows license? (I can currently create a USB from Microsoft's tool and reinstall Windows. If I change hardware, will Microsoft still allow me to retain my lisence?)What other precautions should I take?I am currently looking at this SSD. Would this (and similar) work with my laptop? Thanks and regardsPrakhar

Out of anger I recently hit my laptop causing it to break the hard drive. I think it was the only component effected. I tried taking the back off to see the dimensions and if I could replace easily or not. Just wondering if I need to replace it (my laptop won't start up) a good replacement HDD to buy, whether or not I should do it myself and if theres any way to take the back panel off. Thanks

A:Replace Hard Drive HP Pavilion 15-n096sa

It's not a back panel. You come in from the top down removing the top cover.  Your Service Manual Start on p. 63. You can use any 2.5 inch wide SATA drive whether mechanical or solid state as long as it is 7 mm or 9.5 mm thick. Almost all are, What country do you live in? We can certainly help you locate the drive, but then there are issues surrounding software reinstallation.  If you are more "visual", we can also help you find a video showing hard drive replacement. This is not a super easy procedure so you need to honestly assess your tech skills and just sayin' maybe an anger management assessment, too. I am sure the laptop did not deserve what it got or maybe it did.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Looks like you can go with any 60GB, 80GB, 100GB, or 120GB (Non SATA) Hard drive. That HD in your first link is a 9.5mm....The 9.4 is probably a typo.

A:HP PAVILION G6: IS MY HARD DRIVE NOT WORKING ANYMORE??

GamingPro334 Most likely, yes, it has failed -- since the test indicates that and you can not boot from it. If you want to be sure, you could do the following:1) Remove the drive from this PC2) Connect the drive to another PC using a USB-to-HDD adapter cable3) Download and install a partitioning tool:  Free Partition Manager Software - AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard4) Use the option in the tool to Check the drive -- it should fail. Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on my post to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================================================================

Bought this Pavilion 17t in December of 2014.  Upgraded to Windows 10 about 6 months ago.  Just last week the laptop got stuck in an automatic repair loop. I tried a hard reboot and that didn't work.  I ran the diagnostics test and got a Hard Drive Short DST check Failed.  Failure ID Q4JF9G-7G189F-MFPV7A-60SU03  Product ID J7B57AV.   Does this mean my hard drive is failing after such a short time?  Is there any solution other than an expensive repair?

A:HP Pavilion 17t Hard Drive Short DST failed

Yes unfortunately it means the hard drive must be replaced. If you are willing to do it yourself, hard drives are probably not as expensive as you fear. We would need your precise model number to provide the correct manual and instructions and likely a video. Since you had Windows 10 installed and activated you can use media downloaded for free direct from Microsoft.

Hi,I'm thinking of purchasing a Pavilion 15 ab128na laptop and wanted to know about its upgrading capabilities. It ships with a 256GB M.2 SSD drive but this maybe a bit small. Is there room for an additional HDD drive (like the pavilion gaming notebook)? So I would have, for example, the 256GB M.2 SSD drive and a 1TB HDD.Or does the model only allow for 1 hard drive, so I would have to replace the SSD it comes with with a larger capacity SSD?Many Thanks in advance

A:Pavilion 15 ab128na upgrading hard drive

Here is the Service Manual: Manual This Manual says Star Wars Edition and the 15-ab128na shares the same internals with that model.  The problem will be that if your laptop ships with just the M.2 mSSD I do not believe they will include the mounting kit for a 2.5 inch hard drive. You would have to acquire that part in the secondary market somehow. Hard Drive Hardware Kit (brackets and connector) 809296-001 http://www.ebay.com/itm/809296-001-Hp-15-AB027CL-Hard-Drive-Caddy-Kit-Grade-A-/171992018156?hash=item280b85ecec:g:2SgAAOSw7hRWPoW0 Also, accessing the hard drive bay is a bit of a chore and will put the warranty in jeopardy.  But to directly answer your question the laptop is designed to have both an M.2 and 2.5 inch SATA drive at the same time.  You could also install a hard drive as pure storage using the DVD drive slot with an adapter. Obviously you lose the optical drive but I find myself using mine very rarely these days, anyway. Using that bay will not impact the warranty.  Let us know if you need any more help.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

My original 40Gb IBM travelstar HDD failed in my HP pavilion Ze5170. I am looking to replace and upgrade, does anyone know of a 60/80Gb drive that is compatible, looking at a Samsung Spinpoint M40 at the moment.

A:HP pavilion ZE5170 replacement hard drive

I realize you probably already bought and installed a drive, but, to help anyone else, I just replaced the original HDD (it crashed) in my HP Pavilion ze 5170 with a HITACHI Travelstar 5K100 HTS541010G9AT00 (13G1591) 100GB 5400 RPM ATA-6 Notebook Hard Drive from newegg.com for $70 shipped. It's quieter, faster, and larger than the original 40GB drive and so far it works great.
Side note: when I was using the recovery discs to install the WinXP and drivers (and all the other crap that comes on them) I got a "PXE-E61 Media Test Failure". To fix this I just changed my boot order to read my CD-ROM drive first and the install when swimmingly.

A:HP Pavilion 11-h110ca x2 PC hard drive upgrade

Hey @ChuckBattams, Welcome to the HP forums. I understand you have questions about upgrading the size of the SSD in your Pavilion x2 notebook. The notebook supports up to 128GB m2 SATA SSD. Note that an m2 SATA drive is slimmer than a standard notebook drive as it has to fit in the tablet portion of the notebook so be cautious searching for an upgrade. The notebook should theoretically work with a larger SSD, however I can only confirm that it will work with up to 128GB as listed in the service guide for your device. You can see detailed instructions on replacing the SSD on page 44 here: HP Pavilion 11 x2 PC - Maintenance and Service Guide. Note the part number 742736-001 listed for the 128GB m2 SATA drive. Hope this helps.

I own an Hp Pavilion, Model P7 - 14446s PC with a 1 TB hard drive.I want to install a secondary hard drive and clone the primary hard drive on a daily basis.I understand that if my primary hard drive fails, it is a simple procedure to switch to thesecondary hard drive and to continue "computing".What hardware do I need beside the new 1 Tb hard drive and what is the procedure to install the new hard driveand how would I switch to the secondary hard drive if the primary hard drive fails? Thanks,            hpannken

A:Installing secondary hard drive in my Hp Pavilion

@hpannken, welcome to the forum. You will need the hard drive and SATA power and data cables.  You will leave the boot drive attached as it is and connect the second drive to another SATA port on the motherboard.  You can't leave the second drive connected when booting if you have an OS on it.  This can cause conflicts and problems with booting. If the primary drive fails, you would simply disconnect the SATA cables for it and connect the second drive where it was connected. Now, some food for thought.  I never use internal drives for backup.  I have two external USB hard drives and a thumb drive that I use for backup.  They are far easier to connect and don't block airflow inside of the case. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Anyone know how to upgrade the hard drive on an HP Pavilion dv1000 laptop (out of warranty)? I've upgraded desktops but never a laptop before... I don't even know the name of the screws and where to purchase the special screwdriver for starters. I Googled the topic but couldn't find anything useful, and of course HP's not providing easy upgrade instructions...
Thanks!

A:HP Pavilion dv1000 hard drive upgrade - how to?

simple. clone the current contents of your drive to your new hd - use a usb to ide adapter. use a clone tool like acronos. Some new drives have kits.

then remove the caddy containing your old hd from your laptop. you may have to unscrew it from your system.

carefully slide the caddy out. if there is a pin adapter on the end of the HD remove it, you will need it on the new drive. If not, don't worry about it.

unscrew the hd from the caddy, remove and replace it with the new one.
put the pin adaper on the new hd if applicable.
slide the caddy back in, screw it in and reboot! simple too easy!

I replaced the old hard drived w a new WD 80G. Now the old HP will not see the A, C or D drives when I give it power. Any thoughts?

I also put the old drive back in and still no results.

Thoughts?

Depends on the question, and I cannot work out what that is.

Are you implying that the PC now cannot see any drives? Does it boot?

Re-read your post, see if it actually tells anything about what your problem is, perhaps its just me...

Hello, I'm trying to find out the specs for the secondary hard drive bay in the Pavilion Wave, i.e. the physical form factor (2,5" / 3,5") and interface (SATA?). Does anyone know what it is? Thanks,Mattias

Hi guys,

I have a friend who asked me to replace his laptop hard drive a HP Pavilion N5445 model. I tried scowering the Internet and HP site for this specific model and cannot find any instructions on where and how-to remove and replace the hard drive for this laptop?

If someone can provide me a link or something to guide me in the right directions I would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

I have a HP Pavilion G6 1005-sq and I thought about upgrading the hard drive to a solid state one.Is SSD supported by this model ?  Thanks,Daniel.

A:Can I install a SSD drive on a HP Pavilion g6 1005-sq ?

Yeah. No problem. See page 45 of the Manual here: Service Manual You can install any 2.5 inch wide SATA SSD. Samsung Evo 850 is a good one widely available on amazon.com and elsewhere. Get at least a 240 gig model. Smaller than that creates installation problems for software and is too small to use comfortably for very long.  Windows 7 or higher will "just work" with an SSD; no need to tinker with BIOS or registry. Post back if you need help with software migration/reinstallation.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.
