Q: Help! Accidentally removed WindowsXP Component Unable to Access Windows Update or See Windows Icons in toolbar

HELP! In an attempt to install the problematic update MS KB979906 for .NET Framework 1.1 SP1, I accidentally Removed Windows XP component which connects to AVAST Server, Windows Automatic Update Server etc. All my windows-icons and AVAST-icon (orange spinning ball are missing from toolbar) I tried to recover by doing a ThinkVantage Rescue & Recovery Back-up Service then I received an error message but was unable to Send a Report to Microsoft due to "server path not found".Since I'm unsure what was the component I removed from the "Control Panel - Add/Remove Program/Software" I tried googling various download to no avail. I had downloaded NET Framewok Version 1.1 Redistributable Package from off of Microsoft.com but I still could not install KB979906, so I went to the control panel and tried to remove it, but I ended up removing the WRONG component. Please HELP!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Withering,Welcome to Virus/Trojan/Spyware/Malware Removal (VTSMR) forum. I am going to assist you with your problem. Please refrain from making any changes to your system (scanning or running other tools, updating Windows, installing applications, removing files, etc.) from now on as it might interfere with our fixes. Please let me know in your next reply if you agree with this. This should restore the Internet connection issue but not the Windows update and redirection. Those issues we resolve the next round. Please run Notepad (start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad) and copy and paste the text in the code box (without the word CODE) into a new file:[email protected] OFFReg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" /v ProxyEnable /fReg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" /v ProxyServer /fproxycfg -dGo to the File menu at the top of the Notepad and select Save as.Select Save in: desktopFill in File name: look.batSave as type: All file types (*.*)Click save.Close the Notepad.Locate look.bat on the desktop. It should look like this: Right-click to run it as administrator.A window flashes, this is normal. You should now be able to use IE.Please download MBR.EXE by GMER. Save the file in your Windows directory (C:\Windows).Download http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/farbar/TDLfix.exe and save it to your desktop.Right-click TDLfix.exe to run it as administrator., type the following in the command window and press Enter:mbrA log file opens up. please post the content to your reply.

When PC boots, desktop icons are not present. I right click on wallpaper, select view and click on "show desktop icons." It is already selected (as it should be) so I have to do this twice (deselect and reselect) and the icons appear. I accidentally hit a combination of keys on the lower left side of my keyboard to cause this but have no idea how to fix it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Before beginning the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding.

--------------------------------------

I see no evidence of an AntiVirus program on your system. This must be resolved. Connecting to the Internet without antivirus protection is a "Welcome" doormat for malware. It can take as little as eight seconds to infect an unprotected computer.

Here are a few very good free Antivirus products which are available:Avira PersonalEdition Classic
Avast!
AVG
Select one of these, or another of your choice. Do not install more than one antivirus program because they will conflict with each other. It is imperative that you update your antivirus software at least once a week (even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch new malware that may have come out.

Install, update definitions, and run a full system scan with the Anti-Virus of your choice.

------------------------------

Next we are going to use ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt

On any system with a number of issues...it's often better to do a clean install to wipe the slate clean, rather than hope that you have patched all known and unknown issues, IMO.

Before beginning the fix, read this post completely. If there's anything that you do not understand, kindly ask your questions before proceeding. Ensure that there aren't any opened browsers when you are carrying out the procedures below. Save the following instructions in Notepad as this webpage would not be available when you're carrying out the fix.

It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence.

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan/rootkit.

This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files without your knowledge.

If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate.

Stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms diminish. Lack of symptoms does not always mean the job is complete.

Kindly follow my instructions and please do no fixing on your own or running of scanners unless requested by me or another helper at this forum.

Ad-Aware now has an antivirus component in some versions.

If you have more than one antivirus software installed, leave only ONE and uninstall the others

While this may seem like greater protection, it can cause problems including slowdowns, system hangs or even crashes. This can happen if both AntiVirus applications attempt to access the same file at the same time. This may cause the applications to interfere with each other, or cause the system to lock up. It can also be a drain on system resources, making a machine run slower than it should.
Choose one to keep and uninstall the other.

Any antivirus program must be removed via add/remove program.
For any program that doesn't have an add/remove entry, you will have to do this:re-install the program -> reboot -> uninstall-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Of the two, I would uninstall Ad-Aware.

IE 7.0 is installed on an XP Pro SP3 system. All of a sudden, I can't access Windows Update. I get a message that IE 5.0 or later is required. Just to be sure, I downloaded and reinstalled IE 7.0 - no luck. Oddly, Windows Automatic Update is working.
For whatever reason, Windows Update website doesn't correctly identify my IE 7.0. Any ideas?

Hello and welcome. Please follow these guidelines while we work on your PC:Malware removal is a sometimes lengthy and tedious process. Please stick with the thread until I?ve given you the ?All clear.? Absence of symptoms does not mean your machine is clean!
Please do not run any scans or install/uninstall any applications without being directed to do so.
Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within three days this thread will be closed.
Please subscribe to this thread to get immediate notification of replies as soon as they are posted. To do this click Thread Tools, then click Subscribe to this Thread. Make sure it is set to Instant Notification, then click Subscribe.

Your PC is definitely infected, but I need to see your GMER and Attach logs before I can start cleaning it. I understand you were not able to add them as attachments, but could you post them like you did the DDS.txt report?

I page access Microsoft to Unable Update Windows had some issues after I downloaded the CA Security Suite and versions I also had Webroot Antivirus with Spyware A friend had installed Avast on it a few months ago but the subscription expired so I Unable to access Microsoft Windows Update page was looking for something else that I liked instead of Avast Just was shopping around I have RoadRunner internet service and they offer the CA Security Suite for their customers I had heard that this is a good company Am I wrong But since I started all this days ago I have not had a smooth operating computer Certain sites are not showing the drop down links and some sites dont even let the links work anymore Is this a internet issue or firewall issue I have removed all but the Windows Firewall and I have it on default settings When I click on the Windows Update link in the start up I get the IE page but it is blank I can go to Windows home or other pages but when I try the Update page it just remains blank

A:Unable to access Microsoft Windows Update page

The IE Update page being blank I have heard of a lot. There are other ways to get updates, but that should really work.

There are different things that seem to get it working for different people, so I am not sure exactly which might help you.

Clearing temporary Internet files is an old suggestion from Microsoft.

Making sure you have a Language selected in IE is another - Tools, Options, Languages - pick a good one for you or change it, change it back, Apply, restart IE.

With IE closed, reregister certain DLLs from Start, Run, CMD. You will usually see some success message for each...

regsvr32 jscript <--this one is a popular "fix"

regsvr32 vbscript
regsvr32 /i mshtml
And maybe these:

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll

Before adjusting, close IE, adjust, restart IE, test.

If you can sort of do them one at a time (I know it is more trouble) and test to see which one does the trick, that would be good information.

Hello,

My dad is running windows XP Media Edition SP3, and I am trying to help him out. On his computer when you try to run Windows Update, IE (v. 7) opens up and immediately it says "website found, waiting for reply) but nothing shows up, then after a couple of minutes it shows "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

1- I have run CC cleaner and removed everything it found
2- I ran malware bites latest version and removed everything it found
3- I removed any other program that I didnt recognized in add/remove programs

Now I noticed that we are able to browse ALL sites just fine, no computer slowness, pop ups or any other signs.. but we cannot browse to ANY MS sites. We ran firefox, same issue.

None of the other computers in the house that connect via the same router and internet connection have this problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Please print out and follow these instructions: "How to use SDFix". This program is for Windows 2000/XP ONLY.When using this tool, you must use the Administrator's account or an account with "Administrative rights"Disconnect from the Internet and temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any real time protection programs before performing a scan. When done, the SDFix report log will open in notepad and automatically be saved in the SDFix folder as Report.txt.If SDFix is unable to run after rebooting from Safe Mode, run SDFix in either Mode, and type F, then press Enter for it to finish the final stage and produce the report. Please copy and paste the contents of Report.txt in your next reply.Be sure to renable you anti-virus and and other security programs before connecting to the Internet.-- If the computer has been infected with the VirusAlert! malware warning from the clock and the Start Menu icons or drives are not visible, open the SDFix folder, right-click on either the XP_VirusAlert_Repair.inf or W2K VirusAlert_Repair.inf (depending on your version of Windows) and select Install from the Context menu. Then reboot to apply the changes.

i received an automatic update to windows yesterday, after i restarted the computer, explorer is unable to view any web pages, it is inot a connection problem, i took the computer back 24 hours this fixed the problem, today i used the net, then the auto updated came again resulting in the same problem.

A:unable to access internet after downloading windows update

What is the specific update you are referring to?

If you don't want it...simple disable auto updates and install critical updates by either visiting the Windows Update site and choosing...or use the update option which downloads but does not install.

Hi there,

I am new to this forum as well.. noticed many people have the same problem as myself.

I have a windows vista home premium machine with service pack 2. I am getting random redirects to webpages trying to sell spy cleaners etc, in both IE and Chrome.

I have AVG free 2011 installed.
I have run the windows mert.exe scan (full) and it didn't find anything.
I have run spybot search and destroy and it didn't find anything.

I have deleted Spybot and run the OTL and attached the log file.
It appears to have happened April 30.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

thanks,
Erik

Just in case this helps others...(though DIY without expert help is risky)

Read a similar case on your forum here, and I know I should have waited, but this has been bugging me for days... so I ran Combofix and it deleted:

- ahuie.exe
-3460593599.dat

from the system32/drivers folder

- and found an infected copy of pci.sys in the same folder

I also found various ACMru entries in the Registry under the Search Assistand keys and deleted those since some referred to sdra64.exe which Malwarebytes had picked up in a scan.

All seems to be working normally now.

About months ago my computer started starting up and only showing my background It didn t the taskbar or any of my desktop icons This only happened every once and a while so I just ignored it for the most part I could get the taskbar and icons back sometimes by starting up a program using the task manager logging off and logging back on using the task manager or just shutting down my computer by holding in the power button for a few seconds The power button was the only way that worked all the time to get my desktop back to normal Also the task manager wouldn t work at shutting down the computer by command so holding in the power button was the only way to restart it when it does this Starting about a week ago I disappear USB icons cannot device, and occasionally Cannot to and windows access when... update, connect desktop removable taskbar cannot access my mp player all of a sudden My mp player does connect it shows the USB icon on task bar and mp player screen lights up to show it s connected Whenever I go into my computer the drive that the mp player is suppose to be doesn t show up and when I type in the address it gives a pop-up saying the drive is inaccessible I ve had my mp player for - years and have connected it regularly in the past and have never had this type of problem Also I have managed to connect Cannot access removable USB device, cannot connect to windows update, and taskbar and desktop icons occasionally disappear when... it to my mother s computer without any problems just today so it proves it isn t my mp player that s causing the problem days ago I got some sort of error while trying to load a website I don t recall the exact message and haven t gotten another one since but it mentioned something about Win The website worked after refreshing the page and I haven t gotten that problem since Another problem I m having which I just noticed today is that I am having trouble connecting to windows update It isn t displaying the webpage It only tries to load the site for like seconds I did notice something about DNS error I believe it said but it came up and disappeared rather quickly and didn t come up in a pop-up The error only showed down in the bottom bar thing while it was trying to load the page Windows update is the only page that s not able to be displayed and there is no problem with my internet connection Also I checked on my mother s computer and her windows update is working fine so it isn t a website problem As far as I ve seen those are the only problems as of now Now to explain what I have tried to do to fix it on my own I have run check disk I have run a virus scan AVG free antivirus and immediately afterwards I ran a malware scan malwarebytes anti-malware and removed all malware and viruses detected I also attempted to restore my computer to days ago February st and it didn t fix any of the problems I could really use help on this Also I m not very computer savvy so I m going to need as simple instructions as possible on how to resolve this problem

ok i managed to get a look at the full error message thing with my windows update. It gave me this loading info.

that's all it gave though. And also i'm not sure if this is related but everytime i start up my internet it opens up a second window for some google work-at-home like thing. I usually close it out immediately. I don't have anything as far as i know telling my internet to do that.

I am running Windows XP SP2and amusing an HP Scanjet 7400c. I installed a windows imaging component, version 3.0.0.0, update from Microsoft, now my scanner does not work. The only thing that happens when I click on the icon is an error message on the face of the sanner itself. I tried repairing and then reinstalling the scanner software, but still no good. I cannot uninstall the update.

I have Windows 7 Pro, and recently noticed that I haven’t been getting Windows Updates.  (I set it to notify me before downloading and installing).

So I ran Windows Update manually and it said that I had 57 items to install.  However, it kept hanging at 0%.  When I cancelled, I noticed that many of the items were listed as “failed” with an 80080008 error code.

After checking the forums, I performed the following commands:

net stop wuauservnet stop cryptSvcnet stop bitsnet stop msiserverren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.oldren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.oldnet start wuauservnet start cryptSvcnet start bitsnet start msiserverpause

Then:

net stop wuauserv
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\wups2.dll
net start wuauserv

Now when I run Windows Update, my update history has been deleted and it hangs at “checking for updates.”

I ran sfc /scannow and got no integrity violations.

Thanks in advance for any advice. I must have done something wrong above.

There are any number of documented topics about Win 7 Windows Update problems...I've tried most of the postulated attempts at fixes and I don't believe that there is any one which accomodates every situation.  Some things that worked for others...did not work for me.  Trial-and-error is the only solution to some situations in life, IMO.

I have bought a new Samsung laptop.

Specs:

Model - NP550P5C-S05IN
Memory - 8 GB
Hard disk - 1 TB SATA II
Graphics - 2 GB NVIDIA GeForce

I was trying to install Windows 8 enterprise. My lap was already running some basic version of Windows 8. I booted from usb and without reading the comment below, I accidentally formatted my C drive. Now when I try to install Windows, it says, "can't install as the partition is GPT", something like that. Now I'm unable to even boot from my usb. Also in boot priority in bios settings, it's not even showing the default hard drive. I also formatted all the system reserved partitions like the OEM partition. I don't know what to do

Someone please help me do something soon ... Please

A:Accidentally formatted c: and unable to install windows due to GPT

Guys, I solved the problem

Actually I read in a thread that Windows 7 x64 installs on GPT and tried that. But that too failed

Though I happened to find something strange

I was able to open command prompt via Windows 7 installation wizard

Converted GPT to MBR guys

Now I'm installing my Windows 8 Enterprise on my lap

Thanks guys

Boot with your xp cd [cd set as first boot device in the bios] Choose install from the first menu. The next menu will show any previous xp installs and give you the option to repair the install. Choose your original xp install and let it repair for you.

After a repair install you will need to reinstall all updates, service pack 2, etc.

BTW you cannot just change a mb and expect the system to boot. Sometimes it will and sometimes it will not. If proprietary chipset / mb drivers were installed, it will not boot.

When clicking advanced firewall settings I get the error code 0x6D9. When I try to check for updates, I get the message that "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." Hi.

I've been having problems with my laptop recently. I actually care less when it comes to updates since it's automatic, but I noticed that it refuses to install any drivers (which means I cannot access any USB drives or install programs that requites drivers) or updates, after searching for solutions on the internet, I found out in a website that said kb2919355 causes component store corruption that is irreparable, which is the update that I have already installed. I've tried repairing with DISM but it all fails, probably because the update causes the component store to corrupt when StartComponentCleanup is triggered.

I want this to be fixed but my restore point is already deleted since it's probably too old (which is weird that I'm having this problem since the update has been installed for months). I don't want to reinstall my Windows either, so what now?

Any help is highly appreciated.

A:Windows 8.1 Accidentally deleted my administrator access

I accidentally did that on one of my Windows 8 installs doing some testing for a client. I tried many ways that I found on this forum and other places but the ONLY way I found was a restore from a complete backup. Other than the backup the only way I found would be a complete reinstall.

The easiest first thing to try is a system restore to a point before the failed update, if you can't get into Windows to do the restore, have a look Option Two of this tutorial at the link below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

I was trying to clean up unnecessary file on my computer and was asked about MSN files and hate the messenger. So I said to delete.Well once it was underway I realized that something was wrong.I didnt want to stop it mid stream because I figured it would be harder to undo.Anyway now some of my items wont access directly from my desktop. To get a browser window I have to click on somewhere I have already visited and type in the url. When I click on the IE logo it sends me to my internet properties window. This may not be related but my notepad when I cut and paste shows symbols instead of letters and this happens all the time no matter what the subject is.Thanks for the help in advance.Petey

A:Accidentally deleted parts of my OS and now cant directly access my windows explorer

Hi peteyduncan, and welcome to BleepingComputer.Try doing a System Restore to a date prior to the changes.Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Restore. When this opens make sure that "Restore my computer to an earlier time" is chosen, and click on Next>.The dates appearing in bold are the dates that you can restore to, click on the date that you want and then click Next> to start the System Restore, you may get the message telling you that you will have to restart your computer to start, click ok. When the computer restarts and you have logged on as the administrator a Restoration Complete page will appear, click on OK to complete the process.

I did an Automatic Windows Update, restarted, and my Desktop was black, all my shortcuts were gone, the windows and toolbar were from Windows 98, and I could not access any programs or files.

I restarted again, and now my desktop is back with all my files and programs, I can use the internet, but I cannot change the toolbar or windows back to Aero.

I tried to troubleshoot and I attached the screenshot below.

Something like this happened to me before with the update. I wish they would stop screwing me over with this bs.

Please help.

A:Windows update screwed up my desktop, Windows 98 toolbar

Something is wrong if you are getting burned with updates. Never once in my life did I or other people I know get burned by a Microsoft update like this, and I used windows me. Not saying it cannot happen, its just I suspect something else is wrong with your computer.

So lets find out whats going on here. Most people that have problems with windows is mostly caused due to poorly written programs by 3rd parties.

1.) What programs do you have running at startup?
2.)You may have programs running at startup that is causing this issue. Please see this tutorial to temporary disable them and see if the issue is resolved:

Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

3.) What security software do you use?

4.) Download the latest video driver for your laptop from here:

http://global-download.acer.com/GDFi...C=ACER&SC=PA_6

5.) Please Run sfc /scan now using option 2 in this tutorial: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Please post back the results.
Please indicate what message was displayed at the end:

Windows found no integrity violations

OR

Corrupt files were found, and windows was unable to fix them.

OR

Corrupt files were found, and windows successfully repaired them

6.) You can do a System Restore back to a point before this issue. But this is only a quick fix, we would need to find the real cause.
Any questions just ask

Hello SevenForums, long time lurker here.
I've had a issue with my windows 7 explorer's toolbar not displaying icons of all applications (.exe files).
I've tried to depict the issue in the images (a,b) below

(a)

(b)
The only instance wherein I see icons are when I click a file associated with the software,
For example, a .mp4 video associated with VLC media player shows the VLC icon in the toolbar properly

I've googled to fix this for a few months now, but I haven't managed to yet.
So now I turn to your expertise, please help

A:Windows Explorer's Toolbar Fails to load application Icons

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
FWIW I get the same thing for .exe files I don't believe it's a real issue because .exe files execute and do their own thing meaning if the developer didn't make an icon for the operation it might show that icon instead of the actual icon it shows other places like in your image cpuz,
Rufus does this too for it's .exe that I just noticed.

Hi, I followed your instructions on how to remove Windows Police Pro, the malware scan found and removed all the pieces of it and I have manually checked to make sure the files are gone. However, since doing this, I am unable to log on to the machine. I can boot into Safe Mode, log in, and things appear normal. However, when I try and boot into Windows XP, I enter the login information for the machine, and it hangs. I let it try logging in for 4 hours today and it made no progress. I'm posting from another machine from another network, but if I can provide any files or logs, please let me know and I would be glad to post them and ensure they are clean.

A:Windows Police Pro removed, unable to log in

Just to add more info, I have run both our Symantec Virus scan as well as the Malewarebytes Anti-Malware full scan, in safe mode, both came back with no problems detected. I am hoping not to have to run a repair on the system and reinstall Windows.

Hello ... I just ran update on a Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 machine that has had NO problems. Following that, I found Windows Installer was no longer listed in Services.

MSIEXEC.EXE is in C:\Windows\System32. It is version 4.5.6002.18005.

I tried to download and install a new copy of the x86 Installer, but the message said that "The update does not apply to your system."

Download: Windows Installer 4.5 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

Thank you very much for any help.

Bill

Please open an Elevated COmmand Prompt, and run the following commands.

NET START MSISERVER
SC QC MSISERVER

copy and past the results to your reply

Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Windows, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Hey all,

Firstly I hope i have posted this in the right forum.

As the name states I can not use any of my windows security I know this is because of a fake anti virus i had at one point, I also can't install any other virus protection or firewalls onto my computer.

I'm assuming this has to do with what the virus has done with my computers registry, correct me if I'm wrong.

I want to restore my registry back to its default I have tried the reg restore /? command in cmd but it comes up with (see attached picture) and am not sure what this means or for the next step for me to take to continue the command.

Is there any down side to restoring my registry to its default as well?

I recently installed a Windows XP update on my computer...it was overdue, since I had to purchase additional external memory and remove some of the stuff already taking up space.
However, after the update finished (and it took most of a day's time), my printer was no longer there......nothing in the printer folder. I tried to add it, and I got a message telling me that it could not be completed....printer spooler service not active.........I dont' know anything about this, as I do not "spool" my printer.........can anyone help me??????? Please?????

A:Windows update removed my printer!

Most all printers use the spooler service. If you go into the service section you will see a Print Spooler option. Check the status and make sure that is turned on. Also you may want to try a complete reboot after the update it may have updated somthing in relation to the print spooler.

I have 3 Dell late-model Inspiron 15R Notebooks and find more information inside the battery compartment or by going to http://support.dell.com and inputting the Service Tag.

I got those games from a link on this page:

I store the file in Downloads and when Win10 screws with the games I just re-install.

I installed Windows and have been generally impressed and pleased with the changes I don't know about the technical aspects so such things as the ability to 'snap' windows into certain sizes and the new task bar previews are the main focus of such positive comments HOWEVER Unless I have unwittingly changed some settings a recent update has changed several things which I do not like and would like to change back When several windows were running under one programme eg several internet explorer windows were open you could see a small preview of all windows by moving the cursor onto the programme icon in features? removed Has 7 a update Windows good the task bar this has now changed to just a literal description of what it is preceeded by an icon corresponding to the relevant website programme This is terrible The Has a Windows 7 update removed good features? whole point of the preview is because it's usually unclear what you've got open and now some are all but indestinguishable When you 'snap' a window it used to show a transparent preview of how the window would be resized it's now a distinctly uncool blue haze Any help would be great I hope to God these aren't permanent updates as they are definitely two or more steps backwards Cheers

A:Has a Windows 7 update removed good features?

It has nothing to do with updates (unless you downloaded a graphics driver. Check Windows Update history. Advice: Don't download drivers from WU.)

I suspect your Aero has become disabled. There are a few causes and we can help you fix it. Hopefully with minimal effort.

To troubleshoot Aero, right click the desktop and choose personalize. Near the bottom should be a troubleshoot Aero link.

If that's not there, let us know. Take a screenshot of Windows so we can see. You can use Windows snipping tool. Start menu search box, type snip. It will show up.

Please fill in your system specs with at the very least, graphics card and motherboard, in case we need to help you with drivers or whatnot.

Okay, recently I got some pretty bad malware on my laptop and I gave it to a guy to fix. He reinstalled windows and gave it back to me and I thought everything was working fine until today when I noticed Windows update was not on my system. I have had someone from the microsoft team working on my laptop for the past 2 hours and then they told me they could fix it but they would need to charge me ?95. Which I dont have for the sake of windows updates. Has anyone had this issue before? Its totally wiped from my system, I know now it is possible to fix as microsoft said they could do it but I'd like to save myself ?95 and do it myself. If anyone knows how please help!

A:Windows update has been removed from my laptop by malware, How to fix?

Windows Repair (All In One)
run at least option 1,3,4,26,27 reboot and test
If still not working... do option 17 reboot and test

Am I insane Windows Standard not Pro or Ent I had Win early maybe even beta or CTP via MSDN subscription Anyway I've been running it since then and have had great luck with it On day I put bitlocker on my and Win8 Bitlocker from Update removed EFS Windows Standrd USB drive yes it worked and put EFS on key folders that held security related items I fully realize that those features were not included in the marketing slide for the Windows Update removed EFS and Bitlocker from Win8 Standrd Win launch but I always trust marketers as far as I can throw them Now fast forward to all my encrypted folders are now decrypted and my bitlocker drive is still bit-locked but since I know the PIN I still have access to it Support thinks I'm certifiably insane but I'm certain I enabled EFS and Bitlocker on Windows Standard while it was likely in beta or CTP Did Windows update really just yank encryption out So my bitlocker drive is proof not like court of law I formatted it on day one I did bitlocker stuff through the manage-bde script so I can never remember if the bitlocker control panel was ever really there cuz its not now So anyone have some non-win-updated Windows machines to see if EFS and manage-bde work on I'm less inclined to roll back the Windows Update removed EFS and Bitlocker from Win8 Standrd last updates Hopefully not insane

A:Windows 7 - Genuine Issues Leading to Unable to Update/Install Windows

So, you`ve reinstalled windows 7, you`ve downloaded the network drivers from dell.com and installed them, and you`ve tried to activate windows with the key on your COA or the key from the system builder pack, and it will not activate ?

And you`re saying you went to BestBuy and they had a Windows 7 builder pack ????????

Amazing How much was that, if you don`t mind me asking ?

If you used that license it should say OEM System Builder, but yours says OEM SLP which means System Locked Pre-Installation. Are you sure you`re trying the right key from BestBuy ?

I cannot update windows 10 to anniversary update. Every time I check for update, this came out

"We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet."

I am connected to internet, Mozilla firefox is ok, utorrent is ok, everything is fine except windows update.
I have try disable the firewall, turn off windows defender, disable antivirus, none of it work.
I downloaded windows10 update assistant, did not work.
I don't know what is blocking windows update form connecting to internet.

Any suggestion? or perhaps solution.

Thank You.

Windows released updates last night November 10, 2015.  Users are no longer able to log in.
The Windows log in screen appears>Select User account and then it appears as if Windows is logging in without asking for a password.  The screen then blinks but will never load into Windows.   We have resorted to running a system recovery on
the affected machines, another other suggestions?

Hello and welcome to the forums! My secret agent name on the forums is SweetTech (you can call me ST for short), it's a pleasure to meet you. I am very sorry for the delay in responding, but as you can see we are at the moment being flooded with logs which, when paired with the never-ending shortage of helpers, resulted in the delayed responding to your thread.I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. If you have since resolved the issues you were originally experiencing, or have received help elsewhere, please inform me so that this topic can be closed. If you have not, please adhere to the guidelines below and then follow instructions as outlined further below:Logs from malware removal programs (OTL is one of them) can take some time to analyze. I need you to be patient while I analyze any logs you post. Please remember, I am a volunteer, and I do have a life outside of these forums.
Please make sure to carefully read any instruction that I give you. Attention to detail is important! Since I cannot see or directly interact with your computer I am dependent on you to "be my eyes" and provide as much information as you can regarding the current state of your computer.
If you're not sure, or if something unexpected happens, do NOT continue! Stop and ask!
In Windows Vista and Windows 7, all tools need to be started by right clicking and selecting Run as Administrator!
If I instruct you to download a specific tool in which you already have, please delete the copy that you have and re-download the tool. The reason I ask you to do this is because these tools are updated fairly regularly.
Do not do things I do not ask for, such as running a spyware scan on your computer. The one thing that you should always do, is to make sure sure that your anti-virus definitions are up-to-date!
Please do not use the Attachment feature for any log file. Do a Copy/Paste of the entire contents of the log file and submit it inside your post.
I am going to stick with you until ALL malware is gone from your system. I would appreciate it if you would do the same. From this point, we're in this together ;)
Because of this, you must reply within three days failure to reply will result in the topic being closed!
Lastly, I am no magician. I will try very hard to fix your issues, but no promises can be made. Also be aware that some infections are so severe that you might need to resort to reformatting and reinstalling your operating system.
Don't worry, this only happens in severe cases, but it sadly does happen. Be prepared to back up your data. Have means of backing up your data available.____________________________________________________Running OTLWe need to create a FULL OTL ReportPlease download OTL from here:

Hi Fadi.D,
Thanks for the post!
I susgest you enter into the Safe Mode to check if the issue persists.
Meanwhile, do a Clean Boot, disable the startup items and non-Microsoft services to find if there's any conflicts.

I am having a problem with windows trying to access a networked drive. There is video/media on the WD mycloud that I want to access, but sadly I can't get it set up to connect.

The problem I believe has to do with the workgroup.I tried setting up kodi through my tablet and the menu/interface goes through a workgroup folder to get to the media content, but that is where Windows stops being able to go forward. So I need to fix my windows install somehow to get it setup, I just got no idea how and would like some help.

A:Windows 7 unable to run windows update on iphone tethering

Welcome to TSF! I assume you are using IE to browse the web, right? Try opening the windows update site and see if it loads. If it loads all the way, u should be directed to a page that advices you to use the Windows Update feature in Control Panel. Am also curious. Whenever you connect to a network, windows asks you to place that connection in a category, either Trusted, Home, Public etc (not sure about all the categories). These categories are crucial because they decide how the windows firewall regulates network access of various windows components and programs. Which category have u placed your tether connection? The McAfee suite that u run, does it include a firewall, or it's the antivirus package only? The reason am asking is because these bundled security softwares sometimes come with firewalls that may not have the windows update sites in their exception lists. About mcafee not updating, does it allow you to register and activate? Usually it prompts you to activate before it can update. The registration process requires internet connectivity. Also check proxy settings on mcafee if there are any, and make sure they are set to direct connection AND NOT PROXY.

While searching for how to update windows 8.1 Single Language to Windows 10, I found a link on the Microsoft website to get the update. That took me to the STORE showing Windows 8.1 Single Language and a download button. Clicking on that button gives an error message that Windows 8.1 Single Language cannot be installed.
Is the update to the latest version not supported on Windows 8.1 Single Language? Why am I getting that error message?

A:Unable to update Windows 8.1 Single Language to Windows 10

Windows 10 is still in the Preview stage. I would suggest that you do not update but install it in the VM or re-partition your HD to install Windows 10 separately.

Go to Windows 10 forum, they have a link to download Windows 10 TP ISO:

A:Unable to install Windows Update: Update Kernel-mode driver framework

I, again, apologize for double posting. I figure I should include the host of other issues I'm having. Maybe they can all be inter related.

-my DVD/RW drive, when connected to mother board in ANY SATA slot, causes the BIOS screen to freeze forever. I have disconnected the drive at this time while trouble shooting. I have tried known-good SATA cables so I know it's either the DVD/RW drive or perhaps a driver or mobo failure.

-I have run the memory diagnostic tool in windows. No issues were reported.

-I have NOT run memtest86 because I do not have a disk drive connected.

-I have had stop-errors (BSODS) such as PFN_list_corrupt, System_service_Exception, Memory_management, IRQ_not_less_or_Equal
All of these could be a result of bad RAM.

I have purchased new RAM as a means to fix my problems. It seemed to work for 2 weeks, then the stop errors returned.
