I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

there "should" be a key to press like f9, f10, f11, to start the recovery partition (on startup start tapping the key (just like the f8 key starts safe mode) built in the machine.....good luck, you WILL lose all data on machine!

Sitting here in class and our professor was telling us admin it disabled by default in Vista/W7 now for security reasons. I mentioned you can access it from a command prompt based program that comes in a bootable iso format you burn on disc.

I can not for the life of me remember what the name of that program was but a couple years ago I was working on a Win Vista system that got a virus that locked out the user by changing the user account passwords.

We Googled, found this program you burn on a CD and it brings up a menu that will allow you to reset the user account password, or log into the admin account.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Trying to find the name of it. Can't seem to find it now.

Hi. When a computer is first setup, the account created is an administrative one. What happened to this account?

The firm in which I work has a Lenovo PC with Windows 10 installed. There are two user profiles on the computer, the admin and another normal account without administration rights. We have only the password of the account without administrator rights.

The network administrator had left the company surprisingly in without giving the administrator password of the PC and we cannot contact him anymore.

Now we want to install another programme and we cannot do this without an administrator account.

I disabled secure boot and have tried to boot the PC with an Linux USB Stick, but it do not boot from the stick.

Any suggestion how I either can reset the password of the administrator account or create an new account with administrator rights.

Although there may be techniques to recover a lost password it is forum policy that we do not discuss these here - your best bet would be to visit a local security specialist and get them to recover/reset it for you - and a change to the policy for the replacement admin may be a good idea, I always wrote a list of all passwords and stored it with the Managing Director and also in a fireproof safe

Reset Disk by their own local Administrator account across the board the Username and Pass to access the Admin account is the same except for a single machine It seems this machine has a differing password to the other machines unfortunately the previous administrator is no longer contactable I however require access to the administrator account To the best of my knowledge he didn t set-up a Password Reset Disk either I ve read about various rd party tools which can enable the resetting of the Administrator Password but am loathe to try them without first hand confirmation of their validity etc On my head be it and so forth Is there any method to determine what the Admin pass may be or should I plump for a rd party tool to aid in the resetting of the pass If so does anyone have any suggestions for which to use If it makes any difference the machines are networked to a Mac Xserve server - though as I understand it I wont be able to access locally stored passwords through the server itself Many thanks for any light that can be shed upon this issue Mike nbsp

I bought a laptop about a year ago. Shortly after buying it, we lost the password before making a backup disk. I couldn't change the password, we run Windows 7, without the old password. Luckily, or so we think, we have one of those laptops that has a fingerprint scanner so I have been able to log on using my fingerprint as a password. However, I can't believe that I am locked out of changing the passwords on this computer.

I have learned my lesson! Always back it up first! But for now, I need some help. I am also a little worried that I may have been hacked into. A friend said that if your password all of a sudden doesn't work, that is a sign of a hacker. That is what it felt like happened to me. I swear I thought I had the password right, then all of a sudden it stops working.

Thanks so much-Bill

A:BIOS Admin Password Reset

Hi, Your notebook is producing a hexadecimal halt code which is stored in ram as a 'one off' and will be re-calculated after a reboot.  This indicates you have one of the later AMI bios's and unfortunately none of the current code generators will work for this - surprisingly, you can still remove a power on password from the machine by removing the rtc cell ( leave the power board connected ) then hold down the power button for 60 seconds before re-inserting the rtc. The bad news is that the rtc is on the 'wrong' side of the system board so will require quite a lot of disassembly - see Page 115 of your Maintenance & Service Guide. Regards, DP-K

We have two XPS12 9Q33 units that have the BIOS Admin password set, but no one left in the department knows the password. We've tried all the normal variants to no avail.

Does anyone know of a way to reset the BIOS ADMIN password? Not the system password, we have that, it's specifically the ADMIN password. Support yesterday was very frustrating in trying to get them to simply listen to what our problem was so I gave up on that and came here.

I have a few computers, and on one I could not remember the password for the life of me. I really wanted to get access to some of the files on there, so i tried removing the hard drive and adding it to this machine here as a slave drive, which also runs vista. This computer has no passwords at all enabled. And... it worked although it added the other hard drive as the C (and partitioned F drive) ! Now I have access to the hard drive and all of it's contents (after a few permission checks for some of the important files) but I really like the other computer better. It has a better graphics card, processor, etc. Is there any way I can change or delete a file so i can put the other computer back together and have it working properly with no passwords or at least a new one?

Call me a dunce....but I have a problem. I locked myself out of my administrator account and I can't go into safe mode because I also forgot my BIOS password. I really don't want to have to open up my computer and remove the BIOS, is there any other solutions that don't involve turning off my computer?

Im running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3

A friend recently purchased this all-in-one unfortunately it is having disk issues. He was not given any backup media so we may have to purchase a new installation of Windows but the problem I am having is changing the boot sequence; a password is required. Removal of the CMOS battery for two hours didn't help - just date/tiime was reset.  How can we get past this issue ? The password may even be the original out of the box - but I cannot find any documentation. Any assistance will be appreciated very much.

A:reset boot password for all-in-one

Hi: There is no documentation online for clearing the BIOS password in that model. However, I see blue jumpers located on the motherboard illustration below. Check the white lettering on the motherboard by the blue jumpers and see if there is a clr pswd label by any of them. If there is, and it can only be moved one pin to the left or right, try this. Assuming you have powered down and unplugged the PC to locate the clr pswd jumper, move it over to the pin left or right (whichever is the only way it will go). Plug in and power on the PC, and hopefully the BIOS password will be cleared. Shut down and unplug the PC and move the clr pswd jumper back to its original position. Put everything back together.

A virus seems to have taken control of my administrator account password on this computer I can still access the 'guest' account on this machine but obviously I virus: admin vista password... cannot run any new software virus: vista admin password... on it or access any of the material saved under the administrator account and I need some of that material Every time I attempt to log on to my administrator virus: vista admin password... account yes I am using the correct password fonts etc it tells me that the password is incorrect I noticed I may have had this virus yesterday when I attempted to delete some software I had downloaded it would not let me download it I backed up some files but could not make a password reset disk and ran a full system check using AVAST and McAfee Neither noted any threats on my system however after turning off the computer and trying to log on again I am unable to log on as an administrator Can anyone talk me through the specifics of using safe mode which may help Obviously as I'm on the guest account as mentioned above I cannot download and run any new software and as I no longer have administator privileges on this machine I cannot change or remove the password using the control panel options Has anyone else suffered this virus How did you fix it Thanks

A:virus: vista admin password...

I am willing to help you with this. The first thing to do is remove the password so we can remove this (virus??). If you can access Safe Mode, click Start and click on Control Panel. Under Classic View, double click on user Accounts. Then remove the password for your account. If you cannot do this, or cannot access Safe Mode, I will help you to reset your password in a much more complex manor.

Also, download and run two small, free programs if you can access Safe Mode.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Probably the best program for removing viruses without any clever knowledge, but offers no prevention, so do not use instead of anti-virus, but as well as. Malwarebytes Run a full scan.

HiJackThis. Run a scan generating a log file, and then save and upload the log file here. HiJackThis makes no distinction between good and bad, so do NOTHING before we tell you. HijackThis - Trend Micro USA

Also, if this is a virus, removal could be complex. If you are not comfortable, follow these instructions and consult a friend. DO NOT do anything by yourself in terms of the virus removal except run scans. DO remove anything found on Malwarebytes and your normal Anti-virus, just do not do anything with HiJackThis until instructed and in particular, DO NOT run Combo Fix.

There is no way to "Uninstall" Vista after upgrading from XP. You would need to format the drive and install XP fresh in order to remove Vista.

Which Admin password are you referring to? The one to the Administrator account? Or to the one that pops up in your user account whenever you perform a task that requires admin credentials? By default, AUC just asks "Continue" or "Cancel". The password prompt is only available on limited user accounts, which are created as such only if you tell it to.

That being said, I'd suggest getting a copy of the restore DVD's for your system from the system manufacturer.

There are utilities such as Offline NT that can reset passwords. It might be easier to just boot into Recovery and reinstall Windows if you don't have files you don't won't to lose. Recovery will reset the laptop back to factory state. To launch Recovery, start tapping or holding the F11 key immediately after powering on the laptop.

I am trying to save her some money, so if there is "free" software, that would sure help. Second, I need to reinstall her HP printer driver and Vista prevents getting to the necessary files. First is to reboot the computer then it will ask you this "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD..." when it asks you that then press enter then select mini windows XP then when the system boots up then click on the HCBD Menu icon on the desktop
then click on programs the click on passwords/keys then click windows login then click reset XP/vista/7 password then you need to change the drive letter from c to d then click reopen then click the user that can't be logged in to windows then click change
password then you can leave it blank or enter a new password when your done click save then reboot your computer then it will ask you this "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD..." then press enter then select windows vista that's it when it boots
up then enjoy logging in

A:Reset vista password on hp pavilion tx1000

Harry284 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Sorry, but there is simply no way to recover an existing password. ... but ... if you Google for Trinity Rescue Kit, you will be lead to a site where you can download an image file from which you can burn a CD. They might also have USB images -- don't know for sure.If you get a lot of results, then go to the MajorGeeks site -- that is trustworthy.Once you have this, you have a choice of media to create:1) If you can boot from CD, download and install ImgBurn and use the Write Image to Disk option to create a bootable CD.2) If you can boot from USB, download and install RUFUS and use the option to create a bootable USB stick from the ISO file.Once you have made the boot media, boot your PC and use the option to blank the password. After that, you should be able to login to the PC -- and then, set a new password.Good Luck

Please insert a floppy disk or connect a usb flash drive, and then try again." I have a cd-r in the drive which is recognized by everything on the computer but this feature. Any ideas?

A:W7 boot: passes UserAccount with Admin rights / without password

No one here has recommended AVG since the forums formed in 2008, and it bloated up and fell out of favor several years before that. I would replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials.

Before doing that I'd System Restore to your earliest Restore Point to see if you can get before the corruption.

Then run SFC /SCANNOW Command. If it finds corrupt system files run it several times to see if it can repair them. If not consider a Repair Install.

If you have the original factory preinstalled WIn7 which is a corrupt install to begin with, or varied much in your install from these steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 I would do it over now to get a perfect install, backed up as an image to use in place of future reinstalls. The tools and methods which work best are provided along with everything else needed.

I'm following this guide, , to downgrade my vista to XP without formatting the partition, however, I can't get past the administrator password part of the recovery. I've activated the admin account, ive set the password for it, twice, and it still isnt working. I can log in the admin account via vista but it just wont accept the password I enter into it when i'm at the recovery screen. can someone help me?

A:Trying to downgrade from Vista to XP but wont accept admin password

The only Guide I see on that link is to install Vista.
And if you are going to down grade, you are far better off to delete the partition and format a new one. The Vista files and programs you leave behind will not be compatible with XP and will just be taking up space.

Or are you trying to install Xp so you can Dual Boot into either OS?

Just what steps exactly are you doing?
This part "I can't get past the administrator password part of the recovery"
sounds like you are in the Recovery Console.
Do you get this when you boot with the XP CD?
To Install XP, you have to press Enter on the first screen, not R.
If you press R, you get to the XP Recovery Console
Entering the Vista Administrator password won't work, as the XP Recovery Console is not compatible with Vista.

A:Reset Password/ Windows Vista Home Basic

Hi nicolette7202!!

This is kind of hard question. Not to mention the steps to reset or rocover the password, but from the ethical side. The easist way for you, you may want to return the laptop back to Rent-a-Center, and told about the situation, see whether they can provide your with the solutions, which is a password reset disc

Hope this helps

Big problem, when i first turned on my computer in the past i got a blue screen and needed to enter a password to get to the page that gave me an option of clicking on admin account or user account. To get rid of the first screen which was a hassle because i'm the only one who uses the computer i went into boot and got rid of the admin account password in boot .

Thought everything would be fine but upon finishing i now have the same blue screen that comes up just like before but now it won't accept any password and i can't get in.

Any ideas , yeah i know i screwed up.

So I boot up Windows (XP Pro SP2) and after the loading screen, I get a black screen. I've googled the problem and can't find a way to fix it without using the recovery console. The problem is, as far as I remember, my Admin password is blank. However, when I press enter at the prompt without typing anything, it says I have the wrong password, so it's probably something else that I don't remember.

What I need is either another way to fix the black screen without recovery console, or a way to find or change the admin password.

I have a separate hard drive I can use as an alternate Windows install, so I can get into the HD of my original install, but can't access the original Windows.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I'm installing WinXP to a coomputer for givng away, after wiping clean the drive. The install went fine, and when it came to setting user names and passwords I chose the option "skip" as the computer is going to be given away. However when the login screen comes up it asked for a password. I've googled but no luck with what's on offer. I've now attempted to do another clean install but the computer keeps loading WinXP even when I reboot with the CD in the drive.

Any advice greatly appreciated. Many thanks
