A friend's email address is on multiple emails to contacts

Q: A friend's email address is on multiple emails to contacts

A friend of mine recently started getting a lot of emails from people on her contact list saying that they look like spam. They asked her if she sent these emails and of course, she didn't. She has changed her password but the problem persists. She has run a number of different scans and that hasn't solved the problem either. Is there anything that can be done?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If her contact list has been hacked, it can't be undone.  If they have the contact list, changing the password will not change anything.  Sounds like she needs to lock down her phone better.  She needs to be more careful, and check all her privacy settings.  Have her create a new email and let her contacts know.  People don't realize that they are granting the world access to their personal information with these phones.  Google+, Facebook, instagram, Pinterest, etc.... they all access ALL your personal info by default, and makes it simple for others to gain access.

Hello TS! I have come here today because I am looking for feedback on a budget build for my friend. His price range is preferably $600-700 but he can go as high as $800ish. This is what I have put together so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9R7gcf

I originally went with a 250GB SSD and 8GB of RAM but he thought it was too little (I was thinking external HDD+250GB). Also what is the consensus here about an i3 versus the 860K? I am thinking the quad core is better over the dual core. Also, should the cost savings from the above questions be translated to a better GPU? Finally, I read online that a 450W PSU wasn't gonna cut it so I upped it to a 750W (same price as 650W after rebate)?

Thanks for the help in advance!

He will be primarily playing DOTA 2 (eSports) and CS:GO (leisure).

Edit/Note: I will also be posting this on Tom's Hardware to get as many opinions as possible, so don't be offended D) if you see it on there!

A:Feedback on build for a friend

First I have built a nice system using that board; it was great to work with. Newegg.com has this motherboard and that cpu as a special combo for $133.00.

Second, if that is all he is doing with his system that AMD cpu will do him just fine. i3 is an Intel cpu and when using Intel the unwritten rule is that the i5 quad core is the sweet spot for gaming. But, again, that AMD is quite fine.

Why 16 gigs of RAM? If he was doing video rendering or using intense graphic software I could see it but 8 gigs is very good for gaming. Save money and get only 8 gigs.

Corsair makes great power supplies; good choice.

I really don't know that gpu but from the specs and for what he is doing, again, it will do everything he needs.

I don't know that case. With that motherboard I used the Cooler Master HAF 912. Good room, well built, and plenty of air flow especially with an AMD because they can run hot. You may want to get some extra case fans. Also, perhaps an aftermarket cooler.

I am purchasing a MSI GTX 960 Gaming 4G GPU, and I think it has capablilities for 4 monitors to be displayed as a single desktop. If this is true, what cables should I get, and any ideas for decent cheap monitors? My plan is to have three monitors side by side as a single entity, and a fourth on the side as a reference screen (I would prefer this one to be rather small, like 6-8 inch)

You should count a number of output ports in your system first. Found a good guide on this topic: http://www.techradar.com/news/compu...e-complete-guide-to-multiple-monitors-1074313

So this is my first time making a forum post since 169.xx ip address working, Ethernet not I am not desperate because nothing I ve tried has worked So two weeks ago I had an electrical surge in my house on my desktop the ethernet port on the motherboard died so I sent Ethernet not working, 169.xx ip address back my motherboard to have that fixed Now that I have it back I tried getting my ethernet to work though now the Ethernet not working, 169.xx ip address connection properly works as in Ethernet not working, 169.xx ip address the local area connection is now at least recognized I still have no internet access I just tried reinstalling Windows bit fresh install after I wiped everything My ethernet adapter is called Realtek PCIe GBI Family controller I have a E Linksys router and a Comcast modem I tried plugging the ethernet cable into each other but no luck Currently I m attempting to at least make the desktop use the modem internet directly I seem to be sending packets but not receiving them when I looked in the Status of the Local Area Connection in network connection details I have an autoconfiguration ipv of xxx xxx ipv subnet mask and nothing in the ipv default gateway dns server or wins server and no ipv default gateway I ve tried many things too many to name now but I am willing to try anything you guys mention and post the appropriate data or logs just tell me what it is you would like to see Any help would be highly appreciated nbsp

A:Ethernet not working, 169.xx ip address

Anytime you see 169.x.y.z, that's the clue that your DHCP request to the router did not get an answer.

DHCP should return an IP address directly related to your router's address and two DNS addresses.

search the form for DHCP - - I've posted a solution here on TS.

Hi,
I am creating a small demo software wherein 4 simple mono-audio speakers need to be connected to my laptop, the main program, written in Java will play audio from one of the speakers depending on the input cue.

How do I go about achieving this? Any tips, hints most appreciated.

TIA!

A:Connecting multiple speakers to my laptop and controlling them individually

First, the laptop audio is not a home sound system and can be easily overloaded with what you are attempting - - don't drive this at high output volumes!

this will show the wiring to get all 4 with output at the same time.

The speakers in parallel like this create a load 4x heavier than just one speaker.
Get 8ohm speakers like these http://www.radioshack.com/8-ohm-mini-speaker/2730092.html
which will reduce the load to only 2x.

The red circles are individual volume controls. Place a toggle switch between the controls and the speakers and you can play 1, 1+2, 1+2+3 or all four.

A friend of mine can't run Skyrim on minimum settings, but doesn't have a lot of income right now. (low hours)
Unfortunately, I'm not sure she'll be able to support an updated GPU.

Her motherboard is a Pegatron Benecia with a Core 2 Quad Q8300 and an GeForce 7600 GS.

Before jumping to a new card, I was wondering if this motherboard would support one, or if she'd need to update the motherboard, and CPU with the GPU.

Sorry if this is the wrong spot to post, and thanks for any help!

A:Friend needs to upgrade GPU

I would say yes it will support any PCIe x16 graphics card. Just make sure the power supply is large enough to support your purchase. I personally wouldn't spend over $150, on a graphics card for a Intel Core2 (LGA775) machine.

Fortunately I think the Core2 8300 still has a little life left. Especially for those that are on a tight budget.

Here is a site that will help you compare graphics cards if you need it. As you can see the GT 640 would be a worthy upgrade.

I don't know if this is an issue or if it's normal. My brother and I play mmorgs together and share an internet connection. We recently upgraded to a faster modem with router built in and when we signed into the game, we got a messaged stating we were signing in from a different IP address. It showed the old address and the new address, but it wasn't our actual IP address, it was the DNS address of our Internet service provider. And the address was the same for both of our computers. Wouldn't this cause some problems if we're playing under the same address. I find I get d/c'd from the game if I just stand around and do nothing. I get a message "Global Allocation Error". I 've researched this and still can't find anything about it that makes any sense to me. Was wondering if it was because of the IP address being the ISP's DNS address?

A:IP address is DNS address

That's probably just your inside and outside IP address. Your home gets an 'outside' IP address which will be the same for every device connected. Inside your home, every device will get an 'inside' address like 192.168.0.5 and 192.168.0.6.

My friend is interested in purchasing a new graphics card for his quite old PC, he has a 300W PSU which we determined and he has about 70 to spend. He will be buying the card from amazon.co.uk. Currently I am thinking he should get a GT 640 because that way he shouldn't need to upgrade his PSU. Also he has just 3 SATA power ports free and we are planning to purchase two of these to make the power to molex and use a spare adapter I have which goes from 2 molex to a six pin GPU connector, which is needed for the graphics card. It is makeshift but I see no reason why it won't work also he plans to play dayz, rust, cs go etc. Will he be able to play the listed games even if it is just at low?

If I were you, I would avoid anything below a 650 mostly because the scaling drops off a cliff after that point. At your price point of 70, I would suggest the following while keeping within your 300Watt Spectrum.

Try one of the following:

HD 7770 71

Or if you want to go lower on price

HD 7750 61

The performance difference from a GT 640 is way above (In many cases double the performance on the HD 7770) it. The GT series below 650 just scale down to low to be decent gaming cards. You should be well within your 300 watt spectrum because these cards use 140 watts (Give or take) which is pretty close to the GT 640 watts (About 130).

To give you a quick example, look at this benchmark chart. Thats only including the HD 7750 but the performance difference is significant!

So... like most of world my family lives online. Having found that ISP pricing in Alaska is horrendously expensive, I want to find a solution that I can create 4 SSIDs, one for each of my three kids (ages 12, 14, &16) and one for me and my wife, and place a data cap on each SSID so that I can't be hit up with the bills that come with overages. I figure with individual SSIDs they can use what ever device they have with out having to detirmine MAC addresses or IPs used or any of that other stuff.

I would like to have just one router be able to accomplish this. I have an older router, an Apple Time Capsule I bought about 6 years ago, but as I don't use Macintosh computers any more, I would be happy to buy a new router and get it set up to manage this dilema.

Any Advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi all

Not sure if I'm posting this in the correct place, so please move if need be.

I have a VPN for connecting to my work server, but we've recently changed our ISP and with it our static IP address. I need to connect to copy some files over today but don't know what the new IP address is. Is there any way I can find this out remotely, or would I have to be on that network to find it?

Thanks in advance

A:Static IP Address Changed

My guess is if you don't know the IP or Domain Name, you would need to be on that network. If you know either of the two, you could cross reference them.

A:Multiple issues over multiple devices

First. You should try to NOT use a wireless connection for any type of gaming: PC, Mac, Console, etc. If you can hard wire the xbox you'll be waaay better off than using wireless.

Now... Yes, the issues could be related - there maybe an issue with the Belkin N router. I'd try to first reset the Belkin router to default settings, check on manufacturer website for instructions how, most routers you can press a "reset" button w/ a paperclip or ball point pen. Reconfigure the Belkin router, recreate the wireless network and see how everything works. If you are still having issues, humor me and connect the Dell directly to the DSL modem, bypassing Belkin router. See if you still have connection issues, if you do then it could be the DSL modem that is the problem and call your ISP to replace. If you don't have same issues then it's most likely an issue with the Belkin router. Replace it. Don't buy the dirt cheapest router at the store, but you most likely don't need the most expensive one either. Find a good middle ground router, ask sales associate to assist you accordingly.

Post back, Hope this helps!!

Hello. Me and my friends all chat/play games over my buddy's IP. One night a few weeks ago, I suddenly wasn't able to connect to my buddy's Terraria server. Then I went to jump in Teamspeak -> couldn't connect to his address. I ran a ping test and found that I can't reach his IP anymore.

I tried using another computer, nothing. I bypassed my router, nothing.

Please, can anyone shed some intelligence my way? Thank you.

A:Cannot Ping Friend's IP

It sounds like his wan ip changed from his ISP. If he is not paying for a static ip that public ip will only be leased out for a short amount of time. Have you friend go to ip chicken.com and see if that ip matches the one you have for your game server. You can use a dynamic DNS service to resolve the ip changing issue such as dun DNS or no-ip. These services will allow you to use a host name that will sync with your always changing IP address so you won't have to worry. Let me know if this helped.

So, I recently bought an Asus UX31a running windows 8(in may) and it was working perfectly until a couple months ago. The only browser that works is internet explorer, which is disgusting (I miss Google Chrome) and several programs such as Adobe reader, Google drive, steam and visual studio either lag for about 5 mins each whenever I want to use them (or click something in them), or I have to close them with the task manager because they aren't responding...(This includes when I want to open pdf documents in internet explorer.

I've run several virus checks with ESET smart security which hasn't ever found any viruses...

It would be a great help if anybody could help me find what the problem is.

A:Multiple programs are stopping to work, also, I don't appear to have had or ever have a virus.

Try using a new Windows Restore point. This may not work because of "it was working perfectly until a couple months ago"... It is most likely caused from a stubborn malware infection other than a virus

A:Same IP Address Why?

Because it is reporting the ip-address give your router by the ISP. The whole point for have a router is to create a LAN where each computer/device has a unique ip address that is then mapped on the public WAN address - - this is the NAT feature

Guys I ask this just out of curiosity what is the pros and cons of more than one monitors.Does they have any uses than gaming?thanks

A:Pros and cons of multiple displays

Yes. I have a two monitor set up, (with an "extended desktop")
One I have in portrait, the other in landscape.
These are primarily for desktop publishing purposes.
Sometimes I want to view my work one way, sometimes the other.

I had always wondered how anyone would like it for gaming.
Seems to me the movement between screens, and breaks in field of vision could be issues.
But, I am not a gamer, so what would I know.

Cons? for me?
Holding my neck / head in one position for extended periods ,
other than a centered/neutral position,
can result in some neck pain.
Solution is to compensate by how I position myself,
and using the dual monitor stand's full ability to tilt, swivel etc.
Younger persons may not notice the issue as much.

I cannot imagine how I would use a set up with more than two monitors though.

This stand has been excellent for my purposes.
They also make a four monitor (2x2) version,
and I have seen stands where you can mount 3 monitors side by side.

By the way this set up is used alternately with..
a) Dell Vostro 3550 Laptop (has an i3 processor, and both HDMI and VGA out)
b) On board graphics with a Gigabye GA-Z77X-UD5H (has two HDMI, plus DVI, plus VGA)
So, no fancy graphics card setups here!

You are still going to be limited on the number of simultaneous connections... I would personally put a linux smb server in place of that current file server if someone has the skill to set one up and manage it (hint: you).

So we have a server at one of the places I work that is a domain controller and DNS server website domain server controller pointing DNS to of instead address as well as an smtp server The domain is named companyname com The website is you guessed it companyname com Now why they set this up like this I don t know but because they have every now DNS server pointing to domain controller instead of website address and then the DNS server decides to point companyname com to the domain controller and ignore the fact that I have a www Host A record pointing to the web server s external IP address and a record saying DNS server pointing to domain controller instead of website address that DNS server pointing to domain controller instead of website address companyname com should also point to the web server s address The problem seems to stem from that when the server reboots for updates it of course forces the DNS server records to update and it puts an entry in there that contradicts my static records with the domain controller s local address in for companyname com Can I force it NOT to put a certain entry in there or rather not update a certain entry that it has in there Or can I force it to treat my static records as primary I m fairly new to this as I ve not dealt with this issue before and I m out of ideas nbsp

A:DNS server pointing to domain controller instead of website address

Hmm; for the External DNS accessible to the web

create a CNAME for www.company.name
create another for dns.company.name.
each pointing to unique IP addresses
this dns ONLY supports publicly available services; NOTHING internal

the Domain Controller should have a SEPARATE DNS, internal to the LAN, not accessible to the Web.
Internal users configured to -> internal DNS which performs recursive lookup to your ISP's DNS.

Morning all The audio jack on my tablet has stopped working which doesn t bother me too much because I ve got some bluetooth headphones which I use to listen to my music on there However I ve got a huge flight coming up soon with my partner and there s loads of TV shows I have on it that we d ideally want to watch and listen to together If only my audio Multiple headphones bluetooth out worked I could just put a headphone splitter into it But I Multiple bluetooth headphones m trying to investigate whether you can get a bluetooth receiver like this http www amazon co uk JUSTOP-BTR -Bluetooth-Wireless-Universal dp B NDDEVQ So that receiver will pick up the audio then pass the audio into something like this http www amazon co uk Belkin-BKF s electronics amp ie UTF amp qid amp sr - Which I can then plug two sets of headphones into and bingo we can both watch and listen to the same thing on my tablet on the plane Would that work Or have I created a ludicrously complicated way of achieving this when a much simpler multi-bluetooth audio out system exists In a nutshell my question is this What s the easiest way get audio to two sets of headphones from one tablet if the audio out plug doesn t work nbsp

A:Multiple bluetooth headphones

I dont think your bluetooth audio adapter is able to drive 2 headphones at reasonable volume level. unless, you get a small headphone amplifier. but then you'll have 3 devices connected and I think it's not worth the hassle. the amplifier itself is cheap, look for something like fiio e3. I have it and it should cost less than 10 bucks.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/FiiO-E3-Hea...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1353073889&sr=1-1

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-3-5m...2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1353073843&sr=1-2

a single alkaline AAA battery could last for about 10h on my heavy usage. but im not sure if the bluetooth adapter could do the same.

bluetooth adapter -> fiio e3 -> 2way splitter

actually this way, it wouldnt be too much of a hassle. the 3.5mm jack of the bluetooth can be plugged directly into the fiio e3 as well as the 2way splitter.

A:Budget all-round build for friend

Well I was gonna suggest a 7850 for playing BF3 but looking at the prices on that website it seems to be almost twice as expensive as the 7770. In the UK the 2GB 7850 is only about 40-50% more than the 1GB 7770, and the gap shrinks with the 1GB 7850. Some weird pricing going on...

That's a great build for the price, only suggestion I would make is that your friend can download the Windows 8 Release Preview and then upgrade for US$40 when it comes out.

A:First time using multiple monitors

im no expert but it could be your refresh rate on the second monitor is different from the first so that could be it,

1.go to control panel under appearance and personalization click adjust screen resolution

2.click the monitor you want to change

3.click advanced setting and monitor tab and change the refresh rate

and your gaming fps should not go down through the multi display set up unless your doing something graphic/cpu demanding task

Hello all I multiple monitors for a card video new Purchasing ve been interested in upgrading my work station also gaming station Purchasing a new video card for multiple monitors by investing in multiple monitors I m not looking for more than monitors but I would like to have at least monitors I currently have a monitor that I have plugged into a graphics card that hasn t let me down yet Its connection to the monitor is DVI but I d like all new monitors to use HDMI cables My computer from Dell is an XPS I believe Core i GHz GB RAM Win -bit ATI Radeon HD Money is only part of an issue -- I m open to suggestions on higher-end and lower-end products My questions for you all are What kind of graphics card should I be looking for and should I look into a card that can support multiple monitors and should I use my old one Will there be any conflicts I will need to be aware of while proceeding through this process What would you all recommend for monitor setup What is the best setup for gaming with clear smooth screens Do I need to upgrade any other hardware parts to make this all work together Thank you all in advance A nbsp

A:Purchasing a new video card for multiple monitors

The Radeon 5700 series should support up to 5 monitors. I have not personally used a multi monitor setup for gaming however from what I hear a lot games either arent designed for multimonitor setups or they dont work very well. However, there are some games that are really nice with a multi monitor setup. So you should probably ask yourself what games you are going to be playing and see if those work well with a multi monitor setup. Also, Multi monitor setups require a large display resolution so your videocard will be working overtime. I dont think a 5700 series card will have the oomph to really makes games run smoothly at larger resolutions. So, I dont know what your budget is but I would guess you may have to upgrade your card to something more recent, say a 7800 or 7900 series. I cant comment on Nvidia cards as I am not as familiar with them.
As far as compatibility goes you may need a display port adapter for the third monitor. These are relatively cheap. Also at 525 Watts your power supply barely meets the system requirements for a new card so depending on what else is pulling power in your system you may or may not need a new power supply.

Maybe someone else can chime in with some Nvidia options.

Does the laptop come w/ a program to customize keyboard settings? Maybe that a look at that. hey all, so my friend bought himself a custom built computer around 4 years ago, and back then it was like a supercomputer (i7 860, HD5800, etc.) but now he wants to upgrade, and he asked me to help him.
His budget is $1500 but he'd like to spend as little as possible.
I have already recommended a new CPU, Motherboard, RAM, and optionally a case.
parts I recommended:

CPU: intel i5 3570K ($239)
CPU watercooling: Corsair H100 ($149)
Fans: Noctua 120mm 1300RPM P-fan ($25) (for the corsair H100)
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V LK ($169)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB (2x4GB) ($65)
Case (optional but recommended): Corsair Obsidian 650D ($203)

TOTAL (without case): $627
TOTAL (with case): $875

He is getting a GTX 680 or a 670 in a few months, so thats why its not on the list right now.

would appreciate anybody's opinion.

A:Crazy upgrade for a friend. Opinions?

Depends what your friend is doing but if it's just gaming then the 3570K won't be a significant upgrade over an overclocked i7 860. I'd definitely recommend getting the GTX 670/680 first. But if your friend is running CPU intensive tasks (video encoding) then the 3570K will be a nice upgrade.

What case and PSU does he have currently?

Can someone tell if there is a way to hide my computers IP Address?
Maxthon is the browser I use, I love it, but I do a lot of business on my home computer and I am afraid of being spied on.
I heard that there are people that can trace it and know everything you are doing, including online banking and private emails and such.
Thank you.

A:Hide IP Address?

Firstly, there's no foolproof way of making yourself "invisible" online. While Tor can give upto 90% masking, it's often slow and still not safe enough. But there are a few things you can do:
1) Follow the EFF's top 12 ways.
2) Refer to the Surveillance Self-Defense manual for complete satisfaction.
3) For computer specific solutions, look here.

Hello, Long time no speak Paladins.

I'm considering on getting a new UPS for my PCs, specifically the CyberPower CP1350AVRL, either locally or newegg. I'd be running two computers on this unit and for those who uses CyberPower's UPSs, is there a way to manage two computers with it, considering it has both a USB and serial port?

Assuming it does not, Anyone have any ideas how I could emulate this, or have the PC with the datalink to the UPS shutdown the other? Perhaps using an event to invoke the shutdown command to close a remote computer would be the most raw way of doing it, but I'd love to know if there is a more elegant way.

Perhaps this is more suited for the Windows sub-forum, but I'll try here first.

I have a laptop connected to two different networks (both with internet), one via wifi and one via an ethernet cable. Is it possible in Windows to dictate which network any particular application will use?

For example, I would prefer it if Outlook pulled from one network while my browsers from another.

Thanks for any advice!

Hello, this is my first post in a forum ever, haha. So I currently am using OCZ DDR2 PC2_6400 2x2GB of RAM that runs at 2.1Volts according to OCZ's website. And without knowing, I purchased Crucial DDR2 PC2_6400 2x2GB RAM that runs at 1.8Volts according to Crucial's Website. I want to upgrade my computer to have 8GB of RAM but when I added the Crucial RAM, my computer blue screened and now I have to run a system recovery to fix the corrupt sectors. I think the blue screen may be related to the difference in voltage because everything else is the same (minus the manufacturer). Should I set my motherboard to run at a specific voltage? If so, which voltage should I use? I have MSI P6N SLI Platinum mobo.

Thanks!
Brent

A:What voltage should I use for multiple RAM?

Update to the Multiple Ram Question

Last night after I ran the system recovery to repair the bad sectors. I booted up with the original configuration of OCZ 2x2GB of RAM there were no issues. I shut down, installed the additional 2x2GB of RAM. Went into BIOS and set Voltage to 1.8 and booted up. It booted up without a problem this time. I'm OK for now, but I don't know if 1.8 is a bad voltage to run at for the OCZ RAM since it's specs are for 2.1 Volts.

A:Multiple routers 6

Starting from the modem;
isp = = modem --->(WAN port)ROUTER#1then to have ALL systems on one network, daisy chain from R#1 to the next but
ONLY connect (LAN)-->(LAN) between all the others. Router#1 will now control
al DHCP assignments - - even for any WiFi router in the chain.

This requires that ONLY R#1 have an active DHCP, so each of the others need
to be set to disable DHCP.

1) One-by-one, connect Router#x via wire to a system, use your browser to access the
router default address, login using the user/password for that router, and DISABLE DHCP.

2) Many routers come preconfigured for lan address 192.168.x.1 where x is 0,1, or 2

Every network can never have duplicate IP address and if allowed, will case network failures.

As you disable the DHCP, also set a new default LAN address 10.0.x.1
where X is 1,2,3,... N and use a new X for each one you've fixed.
Thus, if ever they are wired R1(lan)--(wan)R2---(wan)R3---(wan)R4)
the addresses would be 10.0.1.1-->10.0.2.1-->10.0.3.1-->10.0.4.1
(but you don't want that for routing table reasons)

3) also change the default password for each router.
If your system login password is abcdefg,
you might set the primary router#1 password to abcdefg#1
router#2 to abcdefg#2 and so on.

Hi I m new so hopefully I give you enough info to help me I bought a an IP address Printer does have not Brother new Brother printer MFC- DN Brother Printer does not have an IP address and connected it first to a Mac and then to my PC I can t get the wireless to work and it s too late to return it but it is under a year if I need to use the warranty I do not have an IP address I have been through ALL of the troubleshooting on their site I have reset the Network settings a million times and printed the Network Config page a million times as well Dramatized My printer works flawlessly when connected and I have the correct drivers I can access the printer settings from their software while connected without a problem Here is what the Network Config page says Node type Brother NC- h Ethernet BASE-TX Node Firmware Version Firmware Ver IP Address Subnet mask IP Gateway Boot method Auto Boot Tries IP Filter Disabled Under Protocols They all say Enabled except IPv and LLTD Those are both disabled Also when I go through the settings on the printer itself Network- gt Status- gt Inactive There is more but it s a lot to type so please let me know if you need anything else off that page I have also tried to set the IP address myself I put in because I read that was the default for Brother printers that did not work I also set the Subnet mask to while I tried that How do I make this work It s driving me crazy All I want to do is use Google cloud print and be able to be in my bedroom with my laptop and print No other Brother printer I ve had in the past has had this issue but I always connect them to my PC first DAMN MY MAC I think that s how this happened nbsp

A:Brother Printer does not have an IP address

One more thing I tried

I just went into the Printer control menu on my computer and went to "Properties" as the Administrator. Under the heading Port. I picked a port that was not being used. It is called a "Standard TCP/IP Port" and it's IP is 192.168.1.17
I thought this would be ok because another Brother printer I don't have trouble connecting to is using one of the other similar ports.

So then I changed the IP address of my Brother printer to this.. Still isn't working but now when I go back to that spot, my printer's model number is showing up and I feel like I might be getting somewhere, just need a little more info.

Go for an Nvidia 560TI or a 570, they will both clock down when you disable your second monitor Mugemon is a great utility for this. 560TI = 200, 570 = 275

I know a lot about computers and computer hardware, but I've been trying to pick parts for this guys new computer and the only thing I can't pick is the motherboard.
Now that I think about it, I've never really looked at motherboards before, so I don't know which ones are good and which ones are bad.

Could you tell me which make is the best and how to decide which ones are good and bad?

If I just wanted one graphics card and 3-4 ram slots, which one would be good?

If I wanted a 2 way SLI, which one would be good?

If I wanted a 3 way SLI, which one would be good?

You could just use virtual machines for the other two operating systems -- assuming the hardware can handle the load of a VM (it should if you have Vista running) and you don't need to leverage massive resources for 3D or gaming on the VMs.

Your just tripling the complexities by running 3 host OS' in my honest opinion. While I agree they should all work, you'd only need to tackle one OS if you ran the rest as guests.

Out of idle curiosity why do you need separate XP home and professional versions, as well as Vista anyway?

A:IP address conflict found

this kind of error is frequently caused by malconfiguration of a static IP address.

First start by making ALL systems attached to your router use DHCP. This will ensure
that the conflict can not occur

Now IF you need a static address, then use the Address Reservation feature in the router;
You need the MAC address of the system to have a static IP address,
to restrict the DHCP range to a small set of numbers, say 2-20, and
the Reserver systemX to an IP address like x.30 (ie above the DHCP range).

Hi . I have an annoying problem that drives me insane. First of all I am running Windows 7 x32, just to get that out of the way. Second, a lot of public networks keep appearing in my "Network and Sharing Center", and I have no idea why. I have tried to disable the LAN connection and delete the networks one by one, but after I reactivate the LAN Connection they appear again.
I have never encountered this problem, so I really have no resolve for it. You might say that it's not that annoying, but after some time....trust me...it get's on your nerves if you are curious like me to know how to resolve this issue :haha:

Have a nice day,

A:Multiple networks appearing out of nowhere

get a command prompt (start->run->cmd) and enter IPCONFIG /ALL >MyTCP.txt

The file MyTCP.txt will then contain all the details of your connections.
If you paste the contents of that file into your followup, we can discuss with more clarity.

What would be the best mid-range card I could get in terms of balanced performance and price?

If you have not already tried, just set a static IP address. That should possibly get it to work for a temp fix. The problem also may be a DHCP/DNS issue which I have had in the past. cant remember how I fixied it though. These days when I get a 169 IP the IP release and renew command has fixed the problem.

as dhcp ONLY serves to autoconf the client and you've setup static settings, actually you are DONE. The caveat of course is that you would like (I hope) to have one point of control from the DC side. Let's see ...

Using DHCP issued from a 2wire ADSL router
Default DHCP configuration
IP Address Range 10.0.0.1 -> 10.0.0.99
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 10.0.0.138 << atypical here but valid; normally the router is the gateway
.....................................................and it would be at 10.0.0.1 and the dhcp range 2-100

However this computer has been issued with
IP Address 120.151.90.99
Subnet 255.255.255.248
Default Gateway 120.151.90.98
DHCP Server 10.0.0.138
DNS Server 10.0.0.138Click to expand...

one would hope the DNS would be on your DC or a public ISP; sure bizarre.
(there's a remote chance of something else, but let's defer that discussion for now)

Normally, the client BROADCASTS on x.x.x.255 port 68 and gets back
the DHCP address and proceeds from there.

=== that leads to this issue Node Type = = =

get Regedit
go to the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters
set DhcpNodeType = 1 (if not found create a REG_DWORD and get the spelling and case as shown)
set NodeType = 8 (same comment " " )

Looks like the client has junk in the static config.
Use View Network Connections (on the ailing system) right-click Local Lan->Properties
scroll to Tcp/IP, click properties
On the General Tab, click both Obtain xxx Automatically and ensure everything else is empty.
Click the Advance button at the bottom
* IP settings tab: shows DHCP Enabled; default gateway is empty [x] auto metric
* DNS tab: everything empty and [x] Append primary & connection specific DNS suffixes
* WINS tab: at the bottom; NetBios setting [x] Default
.... you decide the WINS and Enable LMHOSTS lookup for your DC
* Options tab: shows TCP/IP filtering; click properties button
.... [x] all three Permit All

Click OK three times to get back to the top, click close

get a command prompt (start->run->cmd (using admin of course)
enter

ipconfig /flushdns
net stop "dns client"
net start "dns client"
(yes, keep the quotes)

disconnect this system from the lan and wait 30 seconds and then reconnect
wait another 30 seconds and rerun /ipconfig /all

the Node Type should show up as Hybrid

Internet still works but network drive access doesn't.Click to expand...

because it is on the WRONG subnet

A:IP address conflict on network when laptop tries to connect to it

Thank you so much

I am using MAC address filtering and the list consists 4 addresses, a printer, a PSP, the laptop and my desktop. I was trying to make my Router have a Static IP address but I couldn't find out how to do it. When i Set up the MAC address filtering list the laptop was connected to the router and it gave me the pc name and MAC address, so i don't think that it's a typo.

Furthermore which method is safer DHCP Reservation or Static IP against use by others who shouldn't use it. I also have a question that If i change the TCP/IPv4 to use one IP that I've assigned does that make it fully static. and am i right in saying that having static IP's that are different would mean no conflicts between them. But when i tried this it said I have changed the IPv4's on my desktop and laptop to different addresses.

Before I explain the problem thank you to anyone willing adapter address Powerline invalid IP problem to help me sort out this mess I have been at it for hours and have come up with nothing About Powerline adapter invalid IP address problem years ago I purchased the Linksys PLK Powerline Adapters to give internet access to an Xbox and PC in a room where wireless connection was slightly cold They worked exceptionally up until just last week I was surfing the web when I noticed that the Powerline adapter invalid IP address problem internet went down and it has been down ever since The adapters are properly plugged in it appears as if nothing is wrong with them- LEDs still flashing and the Xbox and Computer recognize their presence but they won t connect to the web The router still sends out a wireless signal strong as ever I have tried restarting both modem and router I have checked to see if the MAC addresses are conflicting I have made sure that there is no security to mess it up and I have also made sure that any IP address can access my network I have done just about everything I can think of to make this work Before anyone delays their ideas waiting for an IPCONFIG ALL post from me I have already made sure DHCP and Auto Configuration are enabled and I have no idea what ipconfig renew and ipconfig release or whatever it was do but I did that too The computer from the offline room gives me an IP address of indicating no connection to DHCP not totally sure about the DHCP but it definitely means no connection I have both adapters plugged straight into wall sockets not on the same socket as the modem router and am getting frustrated without the internet in this room so if you have any idea what could possibly be the problem I would greatly appreciate it nbsp

A:Powerline adapter invalid IP address problem

The computer from the offline room gives me an IP address of 169.254, indicating no connection to DHCP (not totally sure about the DHCP but it definitely means no connection.)Click to expand...

Yes that's the issue; that address will not exit your LAN and it is the DHCP failure that generated this address.

Verify that both ends of the Powerline Adapter work locally.
the Master is already attached to your router, so bring the remote device into the same room and plug it into a wall outlet there. Now test - -

Hello I have what I consider a very basic understanding of networking I work for an IT solutions provider and a restaurant chain which we support needs to fix a PCI compliance issue The network at the location was put in place a year ago with little documentation My goal is to move a DVR device for CCTV system away from the PoS machine because the DVR requires a port open which is not good for PCI compliance if both are behind same router I apologize for ignorance or lack of any details you might need to help me if there s some info I need to dig up I d be happy + to How modem routers multiple use bridged to find it I m in a rough spot trying to fix this This is how they are set up They How to use bridged modem + multiple routers have a bridged modem which is the first thing that the DSL line comes into My impression is that the proper way to use multiple routers with a bridged modem is to have a quot main router quot which will be the director if you will All the other routers should then plug into that main router as opposed to having multiple routers plugged into a bridged modem I ve confirmed that for whatever reason TWO Linksys Firewall Routers are plugged into this bridged modem which is a Netopia Again I apologize but I don t have the model numbers This brings me to my first couple of questions If two routers are plugged into the same bridged modem how would they behave Wouldn t they be fighting for control to be the quot main router quot Is it possible to set up two routers to connect to the same modem if some advanced configuration is made I actually would like to AVOID using a main router with the other routers connected to that if possible One of the routers has desktop PC and a Point of Sale system connected to it Router A if you will the other has some IP phones connected to it Router B Router B always times out when I try to access the console and I ve been told that in order to fix that I need to reset the router The problem is I can t afford to lose all those settings because I don t know how the company who installed IP phones configured that one The reason I mention this is to further stress that I don t want to have to reconfigure the existing routers However even though it times out when I try to access console it will assign me an IP properly I don t know what that really means I made sure to double check the gateway IP for that router is correctly typed into web browser At the moment the routers seem to be somehow working fine even though they are both plugged into a single bridged modem What I would like to do is add a third router that will only have the DVR device plugged into it My guess is that since Router B does have connectivity it gives me an IP and I can connect to internet when plugged into it I should set up this third router Router C plugged into router B and go ahead to configure Router C however is necessary for the DVR to function correct Give Router C a different gateway than the others forward the port that the DVR needs etc Is this a viable solution Some of my concern is that I m getting mixed messages from AT amp T technicians I have talked to Supposedly when there are routers connected to a bridge at least one of them need to have the PPPoE Username Password johndoe att net entered on it In a situation like this does router A and B BOTH need to have PPPoE user pass entered What about Router C Since router C is plugged into router B does that eliminate the need to enter PPPoE info Is it possible to only use the routers in static mode as opposed to PPPoE with user pass For example I just enter the primary and secondary DNS which the ISP uses give all the devices a WAN IP using the block of fixed IPs the ISP gives us Will that eliminate the need to use PPPoE mode with user pass And finally my last question would be In getting this DVR set up on Router C should I just go ahead to connect it to Router B and try using Router C in static mode with all the right numbers or go ahead to use the... A:How to use bridged modem + multiple routers

One thing I noticed from reading your post was that the problem you are trying to solve (not having the port opened to the DVR on the same network as the PoS) would not be solved by placing router C behind router B. You would still have to open the port on router B to allow it to pass to router C. Wouldn't this be the same as opening the port in router B to allow it to pass to the DVR (if the DVR was connected to router B)?

As far as the issues with AT&T, you can only program the IP addresses that they assign to you in the routers. They should be able to tell you how many IP addresses are assigned to your customer. If you have a router behind another router, only the one connected to the modem would have an IP address from the ISP.

A:Trying to help a friend with computer choice and GPU

Isn't there anything somewhere in the middle of these two systems?

I hate to say this, but I would think that an AMD Quad based system would give the most bang for the buck here.

I sincerely doubt that the 5570 is sufficient in the long term.

I looked at their full line of computers, and it does seem there's a hole at the price point I'm suggesting.

"EasyPC's" standard cases don't appear to have the worlds best ventilation. The front panel appears to be solid. I'm pretty sure there's no front fan.The first thing they change in their gaming line is the case.

I need a pocket sized address book that can sync with WinXP. Any other tasks the device can do are a plus (and might help me choose). What device has a good address book that could be seen as a Rolodex replacement? Most things like this I've found seem to only be compatible with Windows 200 or older. I don't want my phone loaded up with my work contacts but I want that info easy to access. The most important thing would be the ability to look up the business name and find the names of the people there and other notes about them and the business. Any suggestions?

Two days ago, I took my personal laptop off of standy by and tried to connect to my home wireless network. It connected, but I did not get any Internet access. I tried restarting my computer, nothing. I tried resetting my router, nothing. I tried resetting my hub, nothing. Three other computers connect to this network regularly (my dad's, my school laptop, and my sister's laptop) and they have not had any trouble. My Xbox can also connects with no problems. I have reset my TCP/IP and still nothing. I have tried connecting to the router by hardwire and that also does not work. Does anybody have any suggestions?

A:HP laptop will not obtain an IP address

If it connects to the network but not to the internet, try making sure the gateway IP is correct. I've always manually configured my TCP/IP connection IPs, and unless you have the correct gateway IP, the computer doesnt know where to get internet from. (The gateway IP will be the IP of your router)
If you need help manually configuring your IPs, let me know, otherwise, good luck

A:Multiple intermittent problems

First, invest in a good battery backup line conditioning uninterruptible power supply (UPS). Second, each power outage can damage any part of a computer. Some of this damage is immediate, some causes damage over time. The motherboard's bios gets confused or corrupted. hard drive data and the operating system becomes corrupted...

You may be in for another motherboard or power supply change in this case. You will continue to have these problems until you take action to protect the computer and to turn it off and unplug it when you are not using it, until you can get that UPS up and running

Ok so his power turned off randomly in his house because of some faulty kitchen appliance.

His computer started in safe mode and he thought it was broken so he started messing with services/startup.

Now he has no internet because in the network connections folder it says windows can't display any adapters and he doesn't know what he's done.

His internet in the house is still working because he has access on his blackberry it's just purely the access on his computer.

I'm nowhere near him and I'm on W7 not XP like he is and I can't really fix his problem but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about what he might have done?

In services I told him to check that Network Connections 'Netman' service was on but don't know what else to say.

Thanks for any help you can provide guys!

Try System Restore to a point before the power problem. If that doesn't help, try uninstalling the old LAN/NIC driver through Add or Remove Programs and installing a fresh new one.

well, i let me begin with a general background. i'm on a wired network. the computer i use most of the time uses windows xp 32 bit software, but i will soon upgrade to windows 7 software, 32 bit again. 32 bit is preferred over 64 bit since alot of older games i play run only on 32 bit systems.

anyway, if i wish to change my ip address, should i change out the motherboard? or is the ip address assigned through the network. the router has a static ip address, i believe. so, when i ping my ip address, i am reading the router ip?

i guess i am just a little confused with the whole ip address thing. thanks for the help guys!

A:IP address questions

There should be no necessity to change the IP address.

The MB does not contribute to creating the LAN Side address you see with ipconfig /all

Lan address: Is assigned by the DHCP service in your router, OR from a static IP configuration on the NIC. Etherway, your Lan - IP is not visible nor accessible from the Internet.

WAN address: is assigned by your ISP OR from the domain.name registration process. This is the address for ALL of the systems attached to your router. The NAT feature of the router keeps it all straight.

A:Limited no connectivity unable to renew IP address

You have a computer that appears to be sic years old... after six years, several components are often damaged... especially the hard drive.
Do you have the software to format and install a new hard drive?
What is your configuration...
And HP Presario should be a Compaq Presario... I would borrow a computer to download all the drivers, or get somebody to download them for you. If you don't have install disks, you can buy them from HP via a phone call... if they have any left.
When is the last time your computer worked properly and what happened to apparently make it stop working properly.
Do you have a friend who is tech smart to help you take a look at the computer and its components?

A:Need help to setup home network with multiple Access Points or Routers

With Ethernet wiring available you have some nice choices;
use wires to access remote locations
and place wireless in the room(s) needed
Likely you can just wire to each floor and the garage and then let the wireless be accessed from those locations.

The Modem==>#1Router can control all the DHCP assignments and assuming that you only need four remote locations, you can use a 4-port router. If you need more than four, you will need a Switch, eg
Code:
modem==router---switch-- four connections
|
+---- three more connections
Each port from the router is wired to an Access Point or a WiFi router (doesn't matter so use whatever you have). The trick is
disable the dhcp in each Wifi device
attached the ethernet from #1Router to any LAN slot on the WiFi (leaving its Wan slot empty)
This will place all the WiFi on the same subnet as #1 router and sharing et al works across the board

WiFi setups:
start with just one to get the setup running and then you can use that as a template to
config the others. When performing this task, ALWAYS connect a pc to the Wifi device with a cable!

a) change the SSID to something unique to you but not obviously name, address ,,, (
you could add a suffix to it to identify one from the other

b) set a unique channel on each WiFi router to reduce interferrence.
(if you're using a DSL service, then make sure all phones in the house have a new filter attached)

c) enable encryption (WPA2 or WPA in that order) and set the passphrase (can be the same for all wifi devices)

d) for heaven's sake, change the admin password and save it.
(this will disconnect your PC from the device being configure so don't be shocked)

disconnect from the Wifi device and attempt a wireless connection.
Once this works, you can repeat for each of the others.

This is the strangest error I have EVER seen in XP. I find no mention of this phenomenon anywhere on the web so perhaps I am the first? I surely hope not.

I have a Dell laptop with an integrated keyboard (i.e. built-in). Suddenly, and with no good reason, today my keyboard is acting strangely. Some letters I have to hit 3 times before they type. Others twice. And yet others behave as normal. The correct letter will eventually appear but my Lord no one should have to hit any character on the keyboard more than once.

I need this fixed ASAP because I am taking this PC out of the country with me and I have to be productive.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A:Windows XP - Keyboard - some letters I have to type multiple times for them to appear

Laptop keyboard problem

This could be a failing keyboard matrix, fairly simple to order a new one from Dell and fit. Or it could be the keyboard software faulty. A way to check for a failing keyboard, is to plug in a separate keyboard, into a USB socket. If all works well, then the fault is the Laptop's keyboard. Hope that helps, if only to eliminate one possible problem.

I can no longer connect with wlan, it will hang on 'waiting for the network to be ready' this is becuase I have an invalid IP address. Reseting the winsock does not solve it. Windows diagnostics says the winsock is corrupted but after reseting.. nothing. Also windows firewall will no longer start the ics service. I attach part of the windows diagnostics log, could anyone help me with making sense of it?

Check that the device settings for the network interface have not been set to a fixed IP address - go to control panel > network connections > select your device > right click > properties > double click on internet protocol (TCP/IP) and set the two obtain IP and DNS values automatically.
Reboot to reset the system

A:Keyboard issues, multiple letters appearing

You didn't give us the brand and model, but a laptop keyboard can be found for $25 to $50 depending on brand and model and where you buy it... Usully you remove four to six screws from the bottom, unplug the ribbon cable, remove the board and exchange it, then reverse and you have the new keyboard working in less than 15 minutes...
Finding the right keyboard is tricky, but eBay usually has every model available or with a gurgle search

A:Can't connect to Internet DHCP and renewing IP address issue

Are you using broadband? Wired or wireless?
If you're using a router and you know its IP address you can try manually giving an IP address to your PC but it has to be in the same range as your router. That is if your router's IP is 192.168.1.1 then you'll have to specify something like 192.168.1.2 to your PC.

You may want to try taking a look here too.
