Q: Help buying a new laptop

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=959&catid=1828&sortby=priceDesc

Looking at laptops from the above website (I am in the UK)

Would appreciate if you guys could point me in the direction of the best "bang for buck" laptop from those.

I usually only use PCs and I am not at all familiar with laptops.

Thanks

Preferred Solution: Help buying a new laptop

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Help buying a new laptop

What use do you require from the laptop?
Gaming?
General use/applications?

For gaming I'd suggest a second generation i5 or greater processor, more games are taking advantages of 2+ cores nowadays.

Watch out when considering laptop graphics as often the same model number with a M or "Mobile" tagged on the end isn't the equivalent in performance to the desktop part of the same model number.

I often recommend http://www.notebookcheck.net/ for checking mobile processors and mobile graphics performance. Have a lot of reviews and links to reviews of specific laptops too.

A:Internet for Laptop while Traveling and Laptop Buying Advice

Many RV travelers have a directional antenna and a WAP (Wireless Access Point) to connect to WiFi. One of the major issues is weak signals, a good directional antenna can be aimed at the source and make a big difference. I'm led to believe that many RV parks supply WiFi connections. . Decent cellular data access is pretty expensive, $60-100/mo, probably a bit steep for your intended use.

There is no way you need to spend more than $1000-1200 for a nice laptop Any laptop will offer wired and wireless connectivity nowadays. I bought my HP DV9207US laptop through the bargain sites listed below, and I paid $800 for it. I added 2gigs of memory and an additional 120gig hard disk, and have a total of less than $1000 invested. It's certainly more than sufficient for your stated needs.

A:buying a laptop

You should be able to connect it to the same broadband connection you have now. You would have need a router so that both computers could be connected and access the internet at the same time. For example: http://www.smc.com/index.cfm?sec=Products&pg=Product-List&cat=4&site=c#family13

hello friends
i waned to buy a new laptop and am just a bit confused

between compaq presario cq 60 101 and compaq presario CQ 50

is there a significant difference between them except the screen size?

also if anyone can suggest a better machine for same budget
[ i am getting these machines for 700 usd]

thank u people

A:Buying a new laptop

I'm not a fan of compaq computers. Compaq used to have a lot of problems with their computers, but things may be different now that they are a part of HP. I haven't used a compaq since before they got together with HP. But the Compaqs that I used before then were junk. I have heard they are getting a lot better. Anyways, just thought I'd tell you my experiences with Compaq.

You can buy a lenovo for about $700 give or take. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3952531&Sku=T71-15024

Lenovo laptops are one of the best.

You could buy a Dell Inspiron or you could try to find a nice used apple for around $700.

Hope this helps

Hey all.

I plan to buy a laptop for uni. I know you have to make trade offs (cringe) but I'll list what approximate specs I'm looking for:

- 14" screen or less
- DVD drive
- A decent battery life (5+ hours)
- A decent processor
- Not too heavy
- I would like an ATI/NVIDIA dicrete graphics card but it's not absolutely neccessary as I won't have many games on it.

At the moment I'm looking at:
The Compaq Presario 14" CQ41-209TX
The Lenovo Thinkpad SL 410 Performance (although possibly customized a little)

I've built PC's but never shopped for a laptop before so any help would be great.

Cheers, Brent.

Hi Folks,

After a long time I decided to move from my current laptop and buy a new one for myself. However, I've zeroed the below listed laptop and is little confused on deciding which one to choose as they all are got almost the same configuration.

Thought of taking some smart and intelligent advice and nothing comes to mind except my folks at "sevenforums".

So, need suggestion and advice:

Lenovo Essential G505s (59-380146) Laptop (APU Quad Core A10/ 8GB/ 1TB/ DOS/ 2.5GB Graph) VS

HP Pavilion G6-2312AX Laptop (APU Quad Core A10/ 4GB/ 1TB/ Win8/ 2.5GB Graph) VS

HP Pavilion G6-2313AX Laptop (APU Quad Core A10/ 6GB/ 1TB/ DOS/ 2.5GB Graph)

Thank you!

A:Help with Buying a New Laptop

As you said, the specs on all three machines are pretty close. But I'd choose the Lenovo since it already comes with 8GB RAM. You'd probably spend more money shortly after getting either of the HPs just to upgrade their RAM. Also, HP computers seem to be a lot more bloated with unnecessary "stuff". One of the Forum experts prepared a tutorial on how to do a clean reinstall of an OEM computer with a special "note" at the bottom for HP owners. So that's my opinion and others may disagree. Don't know if this counts as smart or intelligent.

A:Buying a new laptop - what to get?

ASUS makes the most reliable laptops, but Dell and HP offer better support... so theirs one key question to consider.

I would look for a Core2Duo, 4GB RAM and a good integrated graphics card, also make sure the Hard drive is 7200 RPM, since you care about performance.

I found an Asus 650VT on Craigslist for $500. This is by far the best deal I've seen on CL lately. I'm going to suck it up and buy last generation hardware - the newest lineup is sexy but the only hardware intensive thing I'll be doing is playing SC2 and compressing the occasional movie to watch on my phone.

This brings me to my question. What should I look for when I'm checking out the laptop before I buy it? I'm planning on running Memtest86+, and doing some stress tests to make sure the temperatures aren't insane, as well as entering BIOS and confirming that nothing is overclocked (not that it wouldn't be easy to clock back to factory settings before showing the laptop off). Is there anything else I should check for? Are there hard drive diagnostic tools?

A:Buying a used laptop

Get one that has the install/reinstall/restore disk as part of the package... Sometimes they will throw in an older hard drive than the one that came with the machine... Find out what hard drive is installed... and avoid it if the drive is not a Western Digital, Seagate, or Fujitsu... If a solid state drive, avoid it.
Were it my choice, I would buy one from a regular store... there will be lots of sales now that school is out... and they will offer a warranty... Sometimes even a 30 or 90 warranty is all you need to make the computer as good as new.
I would think of that ASUS 650VT at $500 to be a price too high.

I think the Sony VAIO's are a great laptop with all the stuff they pack into them. You not only get the funcionality, but you get the pure power as well. Sony is also reputable to some people and hated by others, it's just personal preference.

For the last week I have been trying to buy a used Laptop on ebay and have been always outbid.

I can't believe there are a lot of people out there that are willing to pay more than $100 plus shipping for a used Pentium II laptop, but I am consistently outbid in amounts exceeding $115. Add shipping and the cost goes up to $150. You can by a new laptop with Vista installed, 1GB Memory, 120Gb Hard drive and DVD RW for less than $500! What is going on here?

A:Buying Used Laptop

I know a lot of people use these for other OS's like Linux (that can run well on an older machine). The $100 figure is a lot less than the $500 for the average computer user. Up your bid to $250-$300 range and get a better laptop. It will last you longer, be faster etc.

hi,
I live in the Uk and I am thinking of buying a Laptop computer in the USA while I am out there this october.

I am a bit of a novice regarding things like this, I would really appreciate some help on this subject!!

e.g, Compatiblity issues and problems, different things compared to UK laptops, such as power??

Many Thanks

A:buying a laptop in the US

You would get a US-keyboard (no £-sign).
You need to make sure that you get a universal AC-adapter/
charger for 110V-240V.
Make sure they supply warranty and spares locally in the UK.
You would need US/UK powerplug and telephone adapters.
Other than that, there should not be any more issues.

Prices in the US are not that far off from UK prices anymore and
what you buy over the counter in the US is not very sophisticated.
My advice: buy a DELL or SONY or TOSHIBA locally in the UK.
(you could buy cheaper accessories and software in the US).

My 2 cents worth.

Avoid option 1 Acer, and Option 5 Dell.

Option 1: Acer; Option 2: Unknown; Option 3: Unknown; Option 4: Aceer; Option 5: Dell XPS M1210.
You left out the most important part of the configuration: number of cooling fans and size of cooling channels.
Laptops used in gaming have an extremely high failure rate... due primarily to heat and inability to move out the hot air.
If you cannot inspect the laptop to observe cooling channels, do not get it.
The Dell is doubly handicapped with Roxio instead of Nero. But you do not tell us about the burner software of the other four.

My choices would be Options 2 and 3 but I would have to know the brands and models, and model of DVD player.
Whatever your choice of these, you can expect early screen failure and early video graphics failure... so get the one with the longest warranty.

Go with the Turion X2.
Semperons are the low end of the CPU chain.

Hello I could need some help , to decide which laptop to buy. First I thought about getting a macbook air or some other ultrabook , but they are just too small. So yeah after that I wanted to get the asus n56vz , but here in Wien it's only sold online , so that option is out of reach (can't wait 7 days , I am leaving in 4).

Ok to keep it short can you suggest me some good laptops with the screen size 15,6'' or 17,3'' (15,6" preferable) that cost up to 1020 Euro.
Also I prefer intel-i7 processors and dedicated graphics , and I would use the machine for web development (front-end) so it should be able to run photoshop cs6.

A:Buying a new laptop

15inch MBPs are pretty overpriced. Dedicated graphics cards are pretty rare nowadays in non-gaming machines because they suck up power and most users dont need dedicated GPUs. Will you be gaming on this laptop? Or just for GPU acceleration purposes?

Buying daughter a notebook for school (friends recommended Dell or Toshiba).
Question is: Can another monitor, keyboard & mouse be docked to the notebook so she can save the screen? Wants to use computer processor not screen when she doesn't have to. Does this make sense?
Thanks

A:Buying laptop, have ??

Yes you can.

Check the connectors on the laptop when you are shopping.

Most have a connector in the back for an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Some may not have PS/2 type connectors for the mouse or keyboard, in which case you would just use a USB type keyboard or mouse as most laptops come with at least 2 USB connectors these days.

I am forth year engineering student and i need a laptop urgently.
I searched everywhere and finally came on these two:

Lenovo 3000 N100 15.4"
and
Sony Vaio FJ.

My budget is around 70,000/- and these two fit in!!
I also configured Alienware m5550 which was cheaper than these two but it becomes way costly when imported to india.

Plz i need help fom you guys.

Any recommendations about other brand laptops fitting in my budget?

thanks in advance!!!!!!

I am a Freshman in college and I have absolutely no idea what kind or brand of laptop I should buy. There are so many choices and I do not understand the differences between most of them. So far I know that I want one that is no bigger than 15 inches, that is light weight, has a good battery life and is less than $1,000.00. If anyone can give me some insight as to which choices would be the best it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank-you

A:Need help buying a new laptop

She will most likely want an actual notebook, not a tablet.

For basic office apps and browsing, any current model will work fine. Laptops, in general, are not designed or recommended for gaming. Even under moderate use, they tend to get warm/hot. Gaming stresses the hardware and generates heat, making most laptops run hot. For gaming, you will need to at least double your budget for a laptop, or better yet, get a desktop PC. Desktop models are more suited for gaming.

Hi, I'm new here.

I have the following question:

I am about to buy a new laptop. I got an offer to two computers at the same price:

The first, IBM T43 comes with a Pentium M 1.86 GHz processor.
The second, a T60, comes with Duo Core 1.66 GHz processor.

All other specifications are identical, and price is identical.

Any suggestions as to which to pick? I will be using it mostly for internet, e-mail and mp3's, not heavy gaming.

Also, if I get Duo Core, is it upgradable?

Thanks a lot guys.

A:Buying a new laptop: which is best?

A ThinkPad.. Good choice

Take the T60 - it is a newer model with an improved design. For you, the CPU difference doesn't really matter.

Yes, you could upgrade the CPU later on, but it will cost you a fortune - you would have to order the CPU assembly from Lenovo and most likely they will insist on installing it by themselves too.

The i3 is the stronger cpu, as it has hyperthreading. But it'll cost more.

Is win8 better than vista or 7?? hmm I'd say no, as I find all 3 to be just fine.

I bought and installed a crucial M4 128GB drive in my desktop2 and now want to replace the HDD in the Toshiba laptop but am thinking of a different brand for this.

I was looking at the Intel 520 series 128GB @ $205 and was quite mpressed by the specs.

But as a matter of cost cutting I did also look at the Corsair Force GT series 120GB ? $160 (alternative Corsair Force series 120GB @ $195) and the Patriot Pyro SE 120GB ? $159 (alternative the Patriot Wildfire 120GB @ $225 ? a shade under the Samsung - $229).
The Corsair Force GT however looks to work only with a 6Gbs interface whereas the rest all support 1.5, 3, and 6Gbs. The speed of the Wildfire if the ad is right is amazingly fast.

A:Buying laptop SSD

Hi there
I'd go for the SAMSUNG -- the reason I say this (apart from the fact they make excellent phones and TV's) is that with the SSD you get quite a useful USB===>SATA cable connector -- this makes it easy to say use the usb disk you've taken OUT of the laptop like an external USB drive -- why not format that one and use it for backup.

You don't need this cable to install the disk in your laptop - just plug it in to the same place where you remove the old one --takes literally seconds.

Another use for this cable is that you can then after imaging your OS (backup) restore it to the SSD easily and you can then boot your computer straight away.

The price of all these 128 GB SSD's is around the same and performance on these newer models is also outstanding.

Cheers

Hi

I have been put in charge of buying a laptop in the next couple of days. Because of a lot of travelling, it has to be very lightweight. I was looking on the Toshiba website and the lightest weight seems to be the Portege series. The one that weighs 2.6 lbs has no cd or dvd drive. How does one install software?? Would it be better to go with a couple of pounds more to get a built in cd drive?

I would most appreciate any advice as to what laptop to buy. It does not have to be a Toshiba if there are better ones. This computer need not be used for gaming.

I also have to purchase a mobile printer. Any suggestions of what to look for or a specific model would be most appreciated.

Thanks!!

Vivienne

A:Buying lightweight laptop

some don't have floppies either and liteness is one thing but usabilty is what it gets down to.

you will want to install various apps, whatever you get.

i've got 1 older laptop without a floppy but has a cd and wouldn't consider anything without at least a cd player but then that's me.

I'm an over the road truck driver. The main function of the laptop will be to run my GPS software. I'll also want the best wireless card I can get. The GPS software I'm going to run will be CoPilot Live which is designed for truckers and has voice directions so I'm not sure what the best set up will be for a speaker system, preferably something small but durable and of good quality.

Any advice on the specs of this system would be of great use as well as the best place to buy the laptop in your opinion!

I'd also want a power solution for running the laptop off of the cigarette lighter. Hopefully the adapter will run two items at once.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. And as always, thanks in advance!

A:Buying my first laptop...need advice please

I think you'd be much happier with a dedicated GPS. The software and receiver alone are $200. Then you're looking at adapters, mounting of a laptop, not having a driver-friendly interface.

So I am looking at buying a new and Laptop Buying advice new could a use some I laptop and instantly I went to Newegg I have been looking around and narrowed it down to MSI gaming laptops Laptop Laptop I asked my cousin his opinion since he does a lot with computers and he essentially told me The specs on both are horrible since the only difference is the color and RAM The processors on both will be slower then his current computer which is a standard DELL with a nd or rd gen i Both are much slower then most other computers They are just terrible gaming laptops in general So he pretty much said they are both terrible Since this is Buying a new Laptop and I could use some advice my first time buying a computer on my own and it is a lot of money to spend I am looking for a little guidance Both of the above look pretty good to me speed and performance wise Buying a new Laptop and I could use some advice I play a lot of games on Steam League of Legends Diablo and some other pretty demanding games I am also looking to do some school work on Microsoft Office and such to do research and write papers and things I am a college student At some point in the future I may have to install some D CAD software since I am studying to be an engineer I also do general computer things and possibly record some game play footage I hope to use whatever computer I get for or years assuming I take care of it properly If both of these options are bad which I am fairly confident that they are not can anyone point me in the right direction My budget is anywhere close to the price of the two above - Any help is appreciated Thanks nbsp

A:Buying a new Laptop and I could use some advice

Both laptops are great, I really do not know what your cousin was thinking. Both laptops have the highest end components you can get. They are are overkill though. This is why:
1) You want to avoid RAID 0.
2) 32GB RAM is too much.
3) A 4GB GPU for 1080P is overkill, but doesnt hurt.

Pros:
1) The 780M is great.
2) 4th gen CPU
3) A lot of RAM.

I would recommend Sager laptops. They offer great value. I would look into this:
1) http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=category_browse&selected_cat=special&mid=NP9390
- I would chose this because it has dual 8970Ms. This will kill battery life (not like it had any in the first place), but it will play any game @ ultra. Lower the amount of RAM to 16GB since 24-32GB is overkill. Make sure you select the Intel Intel 240GB 525 series SSD instead of the Crucial M4. Make sure you chose the prefered OS (Win 7 vs Win 8).

That is the best option because it comes with 2 GPUs. It is by far the best value.

A:Buying new laptop, need suggestions :D

lol your going to start a flaming troll war on what manufacture is best.

Buy the one that has the most bang for what you want to spend.

What do you want to use it for.

Do you want to run a couple of VM's and game at the same time - then buy one that has a lot of Cores and capable of using 100's of gigabytes Ram
Do you want to browse the web and open a thousand web pages from YouTube and play a game at the same time - then buy one that has a lot of cores and capable of using 100's of gigabytes Ram

Do you -----------BLAAA BLAAAA BLAAAA

Bottom line is buy what you can afford and don't believe what people tell you on the internet.

My personal theory is

believe half of what you see and nothing that you hear

---- Quote from a smart dude called Edgar Allen Poe (circa 1800's)

More advice

Lots of Cores

Lots of Ram

More than enough space for more than one hard drive (got to have at least 2 drives or go home)

As for the Video card your going to need one that runs at least with 4 gig ram and another that comes with at least 8 gig ( 8 gig just in case you get interested in bitcoin or cracking 1024 bit encryption in a thousand years)

hallo. everyone. how are ya doing? i have some questions about buying a laptop. What generally do i have to look for? Which brand is currently good? I am intending to buy an atholon xp laptop is that any good or intel prentium III laptop is better? Also, where can i find a good prices and some info about laptop? Do ya know any web sites that i can look at it ? Thanks

A:Questions about Buying a Laptop?

The portable version of the Athlon is the Athlon4. It's the same thing as the AthlonMP ( except it's not certified for SMP ) & the AthlonXP. The only other difference is it's PowerNOW technology which allows it to change speed & voltage on the fly.

I'm not sure what kind of Battery Life you get with those. I think HP are selling some.

I don't have much experience with laptops, but I guess you can't go wrong with a good brand ( Toshiba, Dell, Compaq, etc... ).

I'm in the UK and will be on holiday in the USA in the summer.

If I buy a mini laptop over there and bring it back, can I get a power cable with a UK plug and use that instead of the US one? Or should I just use an adaptor?

Thanks.

A:Buying A Laptop Abroad

Many laptop adapters use a detachable power cord that goes between the adapter and wall outlet. Depending on the AC cord socket used on the, it may be easy or a bit difficult to find a suitable cord.

In any case, you would need to make sure that the AC adapter you purchase in the USA will work with the 230 Volt 50 Hz mains in the UK as well as the typical 120 volt 60 Hz mains in the USA.

Aside from power, you should make sure that the warranty on the laptop is not limited to only cover computers sold and used in the USA.

If the laptop has a TV video output, make sure it will support both the north American NTSC standard and European PAL standard.

A:Need advice for buying new HP laptop.

You'll often find that there's a particular bottleneck that's slowing everything down, and that's where you want to focus your efforts.
This tends to vary with what you use the computer for, and it's probably worth your while doing some real world measurements before you decide.
For example, if you've only used up 200 gigs on your current hard drive, it's probably not worth the cash to get a terrabyte in the new one.

I am looking to buy a laptop, pretty much for basic use (no major gaming, etc) I have been looking at the 2 - 2.8 gHz processor, 256 (prefer 512) RAM 40 Gig HD.
I have seen a couple of HP/Compaq in that range running about $1000. I am looking for some feedback on brand, reliability, personal reviews, etc.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

A:Advice for buying Laptop

seeing how nobody has replied yet, i think i can kinda handle this.

HP, Dell, Gateway should be okay for your purposes, not a fan of compaq, as are quite a few people.

Sony, IBM, toshiba, are a little bit more respected, but they may cost a litttle bit more than you want.

Alienware is probably one of the best, and may be a bit overated.

I am about to get one, and i was thinking of a low end IBM or a middle gateway. have a few more months to decide.

I'm currently in the process of buying a new laptop, and out of the ones that I've looked at so far, the Asus N56Z seems like the best choice for the price.
I live in Europe so the price is around 1450 in US dollars for that Asus laptop, and I'd prefer not spending more than 1500 US dollars.

So my question is: are there any better laptops at that price?
I know it's a bit difficult to say due to the price difference between the US and Europe, but I would love to hear your thoughts anyway.

Those who have experience with the Asus N56Z are more than welcome to post their opinion about it.

A:Am I buying the best laptop for the price?

Hi

If you are looking for a laptop under 1500, I think you should try the N76 (just on the top of the N56), which, of course, have better specs.
For example : Amazon.com: ASUS N76VZ-DS71 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black): Computers & Accessories .
Since it is below your initial price, I guess this is a better investment

Hello,

I'm going to buy a new laptop (Toshiba or HP) that already comes with Vista but I would like to install XP on it. However, the retailers said to me that is not possible and even if they could do it, a lot of the machine components would stop working (multimedia buttons, wireless, etc).
Is this true or will I be able to install XP and have a fully working laptop?

Regards,
Miguel

A:Buying new laptop - possible to instal XP

You may use some functionality by installing XP over Vista, but the laptop should work otherwise.

Can I install XP over Vista?

Just curious why you would want XP instead of Vista that is already preinstalled.

I used to have acer 6530G with AMD Turion X2 with 3650M. The laptop was fine but that AMD CPU was a trouble. Whenever I installed new games, the graphics work fine but the CPU was killing the laptop. I had to wait few weeks so that a patch could released to tweak AMD devices to run games better.

Now since my laptop is dead, I am looking for a new laptop. A:Any suggestions for buying a new laptop?

Do not buy cheap. Do not buy anything that does not offer a 3 year warranty... even if you only get the one year warranty.
ASUS laptops are not the same quality as ASUS boards... they are basic high failure items.
Avoid eMachines, Acer, Compaq low end, HP low end, Toshiba and Gateway low end.
If you are looking for long life, get a Lenovo, high end Dell, or high end HP. The extra money will be worth it in the long run.
Most important factor: Cooling channels. Be sure they are a lot.
Fancy and thin laptops are not good choices for longevity.

Should any charger with the same model number work? The model number is ADP-65JH BB

I've been looking around on ebay...I see some with a 2 prong connection and some with 3. Some have slightly different amperage ratings.

Do I need the exact numbers or should any charger with the model number ADP-65JH BB work?

A:Is there anything to I need to know when buying a laptop charger?

Better post all info you can get. Not likely, but possible that 2 chargers with same model number different enough to do harm. Small differences in amperage ratings don't matter, but voltages definitely would, of course. You need to be certain on input voltage and connector types on both ends. You need the right input for your country (which may be indicated by a single letter at the end of the model number).

Hi,

I'm after a used Laptop and have been searching eBay, I have found a few but most of the used Laptops don't come with the Recovery CD.

I wanted to know what is the best thing to do when buying a Laptop without a recovery CD in order to recovery the Laptop in case of a problem etc.

I know some laptops have a Recovery Partition but most of the older Laptops don't, so I was wondering what the best options are e.g. clone the hard drive as soon as I get the laptop so I can restore it to its original state in the event of a problem or is it possible to create my own Recovery CD?

Thanks for your time...

A:Buying a Laptop without a Restore CD

Don't...would be the best choice.

Assuming that the O/S will never have to be reinstalled...is totally unrealistic.

There are recovery/restore CDs available for sale on the Internet from retail organizations...I cannot speak for the quality of such.

A:Buying laptop, need advice

Your budget equates to about $1500 US... (including shipping)
You should be able to find many very good machines in that price range.

I am not sure how wise it is to recommend particular brands or stores.
But if you have questions about a particular brand, or model,
or concerning a particular "e-tailer",
I am sure someone will be willing to share their experience.

As far as narrowing down to a particular laptop...
Start with the games you want to play, and look at what they recommend as a minimum base system... then up your clock and ram by 50% (or so), and that will give you a good idea of what you need in terms of specs...

That would be my starting point, given what you have said so far...
Now... if the specs and the budget conflict... you have to make a choice.
Happy hunting.
