Preferred Solution: Windows update won't load, windows running slow NEED HELP.....PLEASE!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, Welcome to TSF.
I'm nasdaq and will be helping you.

You may wish to Subscribe to this thread (Thread Tools > Subscribe to this thread) so that you are notified when you receive a reply.

Please read these instructions carefully and then print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the fix.

Note that the fix may take several posts. Please continue to respond to my instructions until I confirm that your logs are clean. Remember that although your symptoms may vanish, this does NOT mean that your system is clean.

If there is anything you don't understand, please ask BEFORE proceeding with the fixes.

Please ensure that you follow the instructions in the order I have them listed.

Please do not install or uninstall any programs, or run any other scanners or software, unless I specifically ask you to do so. Also please copy and paste logs into the thread, rather than add them as attachments.

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
Disable your Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
Some Rookit infection may damage your boot sector. The Windows Recovery Console may be needed to restore it. Do not bypass this installation. You may regret it.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Note: If you have difficulty properly disabling your protection programs, refer to this link --> How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Do not mouse click ComboFix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall
===

For AVG antivirus and anti-spyware security software users only.

Quote:

Due to recent changes in AVG and how it interacts with CF, AVG must be uninstalled to run ComboFix. You will get a message from CF stating such.

If AVG will not uninstall, it is first recommended to uninstall it with this AppRemover by Opswat. The AVG uninstaller can be downloaded from here > AppRemover.exe Go to their homepage and you will see they have support for removal of other AV's as well AVG appremover tool.

Hello

I have windows 7 running on a HP Pavilion dm4 laptop.  Lately windows is very slow to start -close to 5 minutes just to get to the log in screen.  Also, the updates will not install.  I am getting various error messages and when I try to look them up I get general information.

I have done a disk cleanup, defragged and removed some unneeded programs.  I am going to do the Security Tango also.

What should I try next?

Ann

A:Windows is extremely slow to load and won't update

Welcome Ann,
If your self help attempts don't clear the problem [I suspect that they may not]. Or if you can't download, install, update and run any of the scanners please quit trying by yourself and go to the Am I Infected forum and get expert assistance.
Continuing to try different things without a plan can make things worse.

Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG and then click OK - "Startup" tab. Remove the checkmark from:

NvCplDaemon RUNDLL32.EXE NvQTwk,NvCplDaemon

nwiz nwiz.exe

QuickTime Task qttask.exe

IgfxTray igfxtray.exe

HotKeysCmds hkcmd.exe

While you're there, make sure that all:

AVG7

entries have a checkmark next to them.

Click Apply - OK afterwards, but don't restart yet.

Go into the Control Panel, then click Administrative Tools - Services. When the Services window opens, expand it so you can see all its entries. Double-click the:

NVIDIA Driver Helper Service

entry, change the setting from Automatic to Manual, then click Apply. Close the Services window and then restart your computer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Delete all files and folders from the following TEMP folders:

C:\WINDOWS\TEMP

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\(USERNAME)\LOCAL SETTINGS\TEMP

Do not delete those TEMP folders, just the contents inside them. Restart your computer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open Internet Explorer, then click Tools - Internet Options - Delete Files - Delete all offline content - OK.

Click Settings, change the MB size to 80 MB for dialup or 20 MB for high-speed, then click Apply - OK.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If doing all of the above doesn't help with your Windows updating problem, it's all good computer maintenance that should be done anyway.

The day before yesterday I got a system notification that Updates failed to install, I clicked the notification and saw there were some windows updates so I manually started them and restarted the computer. I ended up being stuck on a screen where it said "improving windows experience please do not turn off" something like that. After this screen I was brought back to my computer but ever since then almost all of my programs having being taking a long time to open. Chrome for instance takes 10 full seconds when it used to take barely half a second. I have attached my HijackThis Log. If someone could please help me resolve this it would be great.

All right I m having a nightmare with this machine and perhaps you fine folks can lend a hand I usually pride myself on being able to locate technical issues and repair them 7 Windows running update after 2nd batch slow Solved: with few difficulties and my family utilises this often hence my posting here now but this one s got me stumped I made sure to look through the forums for answers first but I don t believe that any of the threads contained any help I don t think there s anything in there I haven t tried Please correct me if I m wrong First specs Acer Aspire z series Intel Pentium P MB L cache GHz MHz FSB GB HDD GB MHz DDR RAM Windows Home Premium OEM install Purchased in August of this year Second perceived issue I believe the slow functioning of the laptop was caused by a Windows Update though Solved: Windows 7 running slow after 2nd update batch I m not sure which one and I don t want to go uninstalling updates for fear of mucking up the system even worse than it already is I ve spent most of my time on various Linux Unix flavours and am admittedly inexperienced with Windows so I apologise if I ve overlooked something glaring The first time this occurred I let Windows update and after it updated my family s computer ran slow as ever I called Acer customer service since Microsoft demanded I pay for support and I went through the steps I took to troubleshoot the issue - checked the memory - scanned for adware spyware malware viruses - ran Microsoft s troubleshooting programs FixIt System File Checker tool - cleaned registry and file system with CCleaner - defragmented the hard drive They informed me that the best step would be to reinstall the operating system Begrudgingly I backed up my files not by making an image but just moving the folders to an external HD and did so It updated first with a ridiculous amount of updates then allowed me to install the typical programs browsers AVG antivirus Office trials etc I created a user account for each member of my family Third issue repeated The computer ran perfectly well for a couple of weeks after which my brother informed me that Windows had to restart because of an update I told him ok no big deal Following the update the computer began running terribly slow as before with physical memory running at percent on average Fourth HijackThis log Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v Scan saved at AM on Platform Windows WinNT MSIE Internet Explorer v Boot mode Normal Running processes C Program Files x RocketDock RocketDock exe C Users Loomk AppData Local Google Chrome Application chrome exe C Users Loomk AppData Local Google Chrome Application chrome exe C Users Loomk AppData Local Google Chrome Application chrome exe C Users Loomk AppData Local Google Chrome Application chrome exe C Users Loomk Downloads HijackThis exe R - HKCU Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Default Page URL http homepage acer com rdr aspx b ACAW amp l amp m aspire amp r l z k t j p R - HKCU Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Search Page http go microsoft com fwlink LinkId R - HKCU Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Start Page http homepage acer com rdr aspx b ACAW amp l amp m aspire amp r l z k t j p R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Default Page URL http homepage acer com rdr aspx b ACAW amp l amp m aspire amp r l z k t j p R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Default Search URL http go microsoft com fwlink LinkId R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Search Page http go microsoft com fwlink LinkId R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Start Page http homepage acer com rdr aspx b ACAW amp l amp m aspire amp r l z k t j p R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Search SearchAssistant R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Search CustomizeSearch R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Local Page C Windows SysWOW blank htm R - HKCU Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Internet Settings ProxyOverride loca... My Sophus antivirus has found multiple virus/spyware on my computer. The computer is running extremely slow. Also, windows updates will not install. I have tried repeatedly to install, it says they were installed successfully, however when i restart the computer, the same install notice for the same updates appears. I really need some help, its becoming unbearable.

THanks,
Renaldo

Hello and Welcome to TSF.

Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within three days this thread will be closed.

------------------------------------------------------

Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate.

Please stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms seemingly abate.

Kindly follow my instructions and please do no fixing on your own or running of scanners unless requested by a helper.

------------------------------------------------------

If there are any personal files, pics, etc. on your computer you cannot live without, back them up now just as a precaution.

Emergency Backup Procedure - Tech Support Forum

------------------------------------------------------

Please download ComboFix and Save it to your Desktop.

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

Disable all antivirus and antispyware programs. Get help here

Double-click ComboFix.exe and follow the prompts to run it.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
When prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

ComboFix will now automatically install the Windows Recovery Console onto your computer, which will show up as a new option when booting up your computer. Do not select the Windows Recovery Console option when you start your computer unless requested to by a helper.

Once the Recovery Console is installed, this blue window will appear:
Please click Yes to continue scanning for malware.
Your desktop may go blank. This is normal. It will return when ComboFix is done.
ComboFix may reboot your machine. This is normal. For some infections, it may do this multiple times.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a log for you.

Please post that log, C:\ComboFix.txt, in your next reply.

Please re-enable your antivirus before posting the ComboFix.txt log.

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Button, select Immediate Notification, and click on Proceed. This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer. NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions. These are the programs I would like you to run next, if you have any problems with these just skip it and run the next one.-Security Check-Download Security Check by screen317 from here.Save it to your Desktop.Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.-AdwCleaner-Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.Click on Delete.Confirm each time with Ok.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer. You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.--RogueKiller-- Download & SAVE to your Desktop RogueKiller or from here
Quit all programs that you may have started. Please disconnect any USB or external drives from the computer before you run this scan! For Vista or Windows 7, right-click and select "Run as Administrator to start"For Windows XP, double-click to start. Wait until Prescan has finished ... Then Click on "Scan" button Wait until the Status box shows "Scan Finished"click on "delete" Wait until the Status box shows "Deleting Finished" Click on "Report" and copy/paste the content of the Notepad into your next reply. The log should be found in RKreport[1].txt on your DesktopExit/Close RogueKiller+Gringo

After scanning with Microsoft Security Essentials, I was informed that an infection existed that required me to run Windows Defender Offline.
The Windows Defender scan revealed a total of 30 items which needed to be cleaned.  The only name I recall was Alureon Trojan.  I ran Defender and recevied the message that the clean up was successful.
However, I am now unable to load windows.  It fails over and over.  I have tried to repair via start up repair and using the reformatting option via Dell Data Safe, and restoring to an earlier point.  None of these has been successful.  It will begin to load Windows then stop and tell me it can not load.

I ran farbar/recover/scan tool and received the attached log:

I would appreciate any assistance.

This Toshiba computer had the Windows 7 Updated loaded onto it. Now when the computer starts up I receive the Safe Mode etc...options. I select Start Normally and from there is when it takes about an hour or more to load windows.

When the system finally loads, to click on anything takes about 10 minutes or more to populate anything.

A loading error message is received in the bottom right hand corner which says something about logging in as administrator and loading a disc.

This is my friends computer(previously mine) and I need to get to the pictures and save them in case I'm going to need to reset anything. If someone can tell me how to get at the pictures faster or fixing this without wiping out the pics that would be great. Much appreciated!! Tiff

A:Download Update for Windows 7, now comp takes about an hour to load windows

Right now I am in safe mode and it's seconds faster but not much and i did not receive that error in the bottom right corner.

Hi My first post here and I m wondering if someone can help with my problem since I ve completely run out of ideas For the last few months I have been unable to load Windows Update Windows Search or the Personalize Desktop option when right clicking on the desktop When I click on these items a window will open for a second completely white and then close instantly There s seemingly no way around this and the same is true in Safe Mode Suspecting a virus trojan or similar I have run a number of scans AVG SpyBot Ad Aware Malware Bytes Kaspersky Norton command line sfc etc Apart from a few tracking cookies nothing has been found Running HijackThis also revealed nothing untoward I ve search the MS Knowledge base extensively and not found anything There are similar problems regarding specific error numbers but I do not get one just a window that opens then quickly closes I have tried MS s own FixIt tool for Windows Update and it didn t make any difference I can still search using the quick search bar in the start menu but clicking quot search everywhere quot does Update/Windows not will load Desktop Windows Search/Personalize nothing I can still change my desktop background by right clicking on an image and choosing quot set as desktop background quot I cannot run Windows Update All of my other software is completely up Windows Update/Windows Search/Personalize Desktop will not load to date I still suspect that this is some sort of very clever trojan rather than an OS error but since I m not getting any error messages I can t be sure Any advice would be very much appreciated

Can you run regedit?

Access the Microsoft website?

Update your installed AV program?

What other system anomalies exist?

I have a problem loading many things such as windows update, the windows search(the search within windows) and some other things. I think it may be active x or something, but it is enabled in IE so I'm not sure what the problem is.

This is a fairly old computer. I just recently had a problem with Windows Activiation, but I've had it for years. The window would not load for activation so I ended up using a crack. I ran virus scans with AVG and the such and cleaned up the computer.

A:Can't load windows update, windows search, and other things

Updates are probably being an issue due to the crack - if that's the case, we're unable to support you.

If you copy is legal, all you have to do is contact Microsoft for valid key :-)

Please help me out - I replaced my defective HDD with a new Samsung Spinpoint HDD, re-installed my Windows 7 image using the recovery DVDs, and can't update windows at all after that. I tried following the steps from Windows Update Posting Instructions - System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and could not install that update either - got the attached message.
Thanks in advance,

Hi wadlip,

I have done exactly the same fixes as you - to no avail. Nothing works. I am surprised by a lack of response by Microsoft. In addition to not being able to update, i cannot update the definitions for Windows Defender. This issue has definitely something to do with BITS.
If i stumble over the solution, i'll post here. I have all night to find the fix

Hello all...

Befuddling problem as I am pretty tech savvy but for whatever reason I can not get windows update to quite "checking" for update:

So far....

1) Downloaded SURT, ran fulling with no reported errors

2) Ran SFC with no reported errors

3) Get no windows update error codes...it just runs and runs and runs with no results

4) CBS.zip attached.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everybody I just wanted to let everybody know about a serious issue I encountered with several Dell Inspiron quot laptops running Windows I suspect this problem also applies to all Dell Inspiron quot series laptops that are running Windows After running Windows Update early last week around April several of our Inspiron laptops running Windows KB3133977 Update prevented Windows because 15" from 7 booting of 7559 Inspiron would no longer boot They wouldn t even boot into Safe Mode and traditional recovery methods like System Restore and Startup Repair also failed completely The only solution seemed to be to reinstall Windows Before I reinstalled Windows I was able to extract the logs off of two machines using some recovery software Pouring through the logs I narrowed the problem down to about ten potential updates that could have caused this issue After reinstalling Windows on one of the machines I went through and installed each update one at a time and rebooted several times to see if the machine would continue working The system finally failed when I encountered this update Update for Windows for x -based Systems KB So please unless you want your system to be rendered nonfunctional please HIDE update KB and if you are in a corporate environment have your Inspiron 15" 7559 running Windows 7 prevented from booting because of Windows Update KB3133977 IT people disable it completely from your Inspiron quot series laptops until Dell and or Microsoft can resolve this issue This issue involves BitLocker and Inspiron 15" 7559 running Windows 7 prevented from booting because of Windows Update KB3133977 FIPS--if you don t have FIPS enabled or don t know what it is what it s for this update probably doesn t even apply to you KB is for Windows and Windows Server R so these are probably the only two operating systems affected although I don t know why you d run a server OS on a laptop This issue has taken up nearly a week of my time and I m so glad to finally have figured out the problem I hope this write-up helps somebody else who may be encountering this issue --sdo

when attempting to do Windows update or open Windows Firewall receiving errors. attached a screen shot of the messages. Is there a virus/malware that my current anti-virus software is not picking up?

Thanks for your understanding. Please read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding.Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one.If you have any problems while you are follow my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem.Do not run any other scans without instruction or Add/ Remove Software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me.Post all Logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 5 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed. If I don't reply within 24 hours please PM me!Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean.Step 1Please run a FRST scan. This will help us diagnose your problem. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.(If you are not sure which version (32-/64-bit) applies to your system, download and try to start both of them as just the right one will run.)Start FRST with administator privileges.Make sure the option Addition.txt is checked and press the Scan button. When finished, FRST will produce two logs (FRST.txt and Addition.txt) in the same directory the tool was run from. Please copy and paste these logs in your next reply.

I'm trying to update my computer (it's been awhile) and for whatever reason I can't get Windows Update to function.

I'm getting the following error: Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.

I've restarted my computer multiple times and nada.

I'm attaching the CBS file: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resi...hint=folder%2c

A:Windows 7 Home Premium Windows Update Service Not Running

I'm a little confused here - the errors I see in the CBS.log file indicate that the problem is that the machine is attempting to install SP1, yet indications are that SP is already installed .

Can you confirm the status one way or the other?

I just restored my Toshiba Satellite L505-S5984 due the replacement of my crashed hard drive. However, windows updates is not working. It tells me the "windows update service is not running". The CNET forum referred me to Toshiba for a "known problem" but Toshiba says they are not aware of any restore issues or windows update issues.

I have restored the computer again to ensure it was not just a glitch with the restore but I get the same results.

I have also tried Microsoft's Fixit tool but it tells me it has repaired the components but windows updates will still not run.

Everything else on the computer appears to be functioning properly.

Anyone have any suggestions?

A:Windows Update Service not running on Windows 7 Home Premium

Hi and welcome,

Have you try checking the services program?

Click on start and type in services on the search bar, open the program,

Scroll down until you see windows update, right-click and select start.

If the service is set to disabled or manual, right-click and properties, find the option start-up type and select automatic, apply it and press ok.

A:Windows Update service not running (Windows 7 Home Premium x64)

Your install has a very high number of POQ's in the SFC report - which usually indicates that a lot of Language Packs have been installed.

There are no serious errors in the scan.

Please download the Farbar Service Scanner from

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-service-scanner/

Right-click on the saved file and select 'Run as Administrator', and tick all the options, then click on the Scan button - copy and paste the report to your response.

A:Slow start-up; crawls into BIOS setup; then slow to load windows

The problem is with your usb hub, or quite possibly a usb device that is plugged into it.
The fault is clearly sourced in the usb system though.
You may try updating your chipset drivers.
try rebooting with nothing plugged in but mouse and kb.

A:Installed Windows Service Pack 3 Now Windows won't load past Windows Boot Load Screen

Hi sirdanceal0t,
I had a similar problem when Windows XP SP3 was released it was only designed for Intel processors, so if you have a AMD processor it will cause your system not to load, if you are running a AMD processor if i were you try and get back to the System Restore Point or if that fails reimage your pc and just before installing SP3 looks for the patch/fix for your processor model, then install SP3 and it should all be fine.

On the other hand if you have a Intel processor i woulldn't know what to advise.

Are you sure you purchased the correct memory?--------------------------------------------The process of cleaning your computer may require you to temporarily disable some security programs. If you are using SpyBot Search and Destroy, please refer to Note 2 at the bottom of this page. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note:-- If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. Note 2:-- MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes (like Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere with the fix or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please disable such programs until disinfection is complete or permit them to allow the changes. What???

That makes zero sense.

one thing at a time.

Which computer do you want to install Win 7 on?

Do you have license?

One license = 1 machine.

I upgraded a laptops prefectly operating 160 gig HD to a new 1 Ter HD using
Ghost 11 ... have done this for other laptops before without incident.

This time all seems to be well, until I go to windows update to confirm the
windows installation is completely up to date and this is the problem.

(note: i am also not allowed to view the update history, no matter how long
i wait all i get is a blank white page)

When I click on "Check For Updates" a dialoge box comes up .....

Windows Update

Windows Update cannot currently check for updates because the
service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.

... of course i've tried that ..... and a few other fixes too ... looked for spyware
re registered DLL's ... all no go ... please
HELP !

also, if I put the drive that was the source for the clone, the 160 back in .. updates are no problem at all.

Welcome
Rather unique problem you have, but lets try this.
Go to the computer icon on the desktop Right click
Properties
Now look at the lower right. Do you see the Microsoft Emblem.
Maybe, you are not correctly validated and have to validate with the key number.

A:Windows 7 STARTER Windows Update is running but says it's not.

Looks like this http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/i...0-1e652b6e8de5 may have it.

At least Update is not currently insisting it's not running when it actually is. Sitting on Checking for updates and the green bar animation is going so it doesn't appear to have hung or frozen.

Would be nice if Microsoft had a "nuclear option" Windows Update repair utility in an exe that would just 'blow away' *everything* to do with Windows Update and replace it all with files and settings that will absolutely work. So what if it would be like changing the engine in a car when it's just a bad ignition module. The point would be that it would work, always. No troubleshooting, no need to run an elevated command prompt and type a lot of commands, just run *this* and Windows Update *will function again*.

For over a week, when I start my laptop, it seems to start normally, then I get a screen that says "updates could not load and changes are being undone, don't turn off my computer'.  Does anyone know what is going on?  I am using Windows 8.1.

I have Panda Security, and Anti Super Spyware, both paid for.  I just got rid of Win Patrol free, although I have used it on my old laptop without problems.  I have not purchased or downloaded any other programs.

Any ideas how I can find out what is going on?

A:Windows update won't load.

I'm just offering some advice. I'm not a Computer expert, just so you know

I had this issue on 2 different PCs, both with Windows 8.1.
It would force me into updates, and then say that the updates were unsuccessful and that it is undoing the changes.
It stayed in a restart loop of 'undoing changes' until I went into Safe Mode (using Shift + F8) and did a System Restore.
I have now changed the settings on BOTH computers to not automatically install update. I don't need that kind of trouble! LOL

My hard drive failed and I replaced it with a refurbished one. The CD-ROM drive had previously malfunctioned and I replaced it with a used one. I purchased Windows 7 Professional for Refurb PCs and have not been able to install it. The CD-ROM clicks a few times and tries to start up then stops. Sometimes a blinking cursor appears in the upper left screen for awhile but then changes to "Operating System not Found." I tried installation from an old Atapi external CD-ROM (formerly known to be OK) but that won't spin up either and the OSNF message appears. I have not messed with the boot order because I thought booting would be attempted from whatever device contained the Win 7 disc. Does anyone have any ideas as to whether the program disc, CD-ROM(s), replaced hard drive or something else is involved. I have about $80 invested here. Thanks for your ideas! Frank

A:Can't Load Windows 7 Prof on a Compaq laptop formerly running Vista

A number of things come to mind...
Have you at least checked the BIOS to see if the optical drive is listed first in the boot order?
You can test the Windows 7 disc on another computer to see if it boots up.  That way, you'd know for sure whether the disc boots.
Are you certain the optical drive is working?  You might want to download something like Puppy Linux and burn a disc on a known good computer then test the optical drive with it.
Let's say you get the disc or optical drive to work, do you know whether your computer is capable of running Windows 7?  Did you run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor?

My partner has a Dell Studio 1535 laptop. She just downloaded the latest Windows update. When she restarted the computer it took her to a black screen with a single line of white text indicating that various files were installing. It suddenly stopped at 430 of 49073 files with a message "!! 0xc0190036 !! 430/49073 (mfc42u.dll)" The computer is just hanging. If I power it off and restart it gives the option of a startup repair or to start normally. Starting normally leads to the hanging message; a startup repair fails to identify the issue, other than suggesting maybe a device has recently been attached. This is not the case.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Is the Windows 8.1 disc 64 bit version?  Either bad disc, or wrong version for what you have, and what he burnt to the disc.  I have run into where I have had to turn off Secure boot in the UEFI bios.  It helps to know what the manufacturer & model# of your computer that you have.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1 and the Windows update page will not load. No error messages it will not load. Any Microsoft help or support that leads to anything connected with Windows update will not load. I thought I was getting auto updates, but I am missing 8 important to critical updates. I have even tried downloading IE8 but it gets stuck on the Windows update.

What to do, what to do, what to do?

TIA

A:Windows update page will not load.

I was in your situation with Vista 32 for 3 months. First thing is to scan for malicious software/rootkits that may have turned off update. If you are confident that is not the cause, then you will need to rename the SoftwareDistribution folder in the Windows directory, something like SoftwareDistributionOld. You may have to first turnoff update in the Services (Administrative Tools) to do this. Reboot, and Update will recreate your SoftwareDistribution folder and you "may" then be able to update. Otherwise, like in my situation, you have a lot of heartache and google searching to do. I had to run a bits.reg routine to fix my bits (background Intelligent Transfer Services) in my registry; then I had to reregister a boatload of dll's. TurboTax 2008 had poorly installed and corrupted a number of files and registry entries.

Good luck.....

Hello, I just rebuilt my PC and installed XP SP3, IE 8, and FF 3.6. Automatic updates are working (i.e. updates are downloaded and installed). However, I cannot get to the Windows Update webpage on this machine (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/). I've read forums that say this is due to a firewall issue, but I disabled my firewall and still cannot access the page. I have not setup any other special network rules/restrictions. I can access other webpages without problems. It could be a virus I suppose but I just rebuilt the system, so that makes me somewhat skeptical. Any thoughts? Thanks everyone!

I just upgraded to Windows Vista 64 over the weekend as a clean install. I ran Windows Update and got everything installed fine. However, shortly after Windows Update failed to open when I clicked the icon. I see a window start to open on the desktop and then disappear. No errors show up. If I go into the Control Panel->Security and click "Turn Automatic Updating On or Off" I receive the following error: Windows cannot find 'shell:::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-BEB064C98683}\10\::{36eef7db-88ad-4e81...\pageSettings'. I'm having a problem with Windows Update. When I go to access the update site, it says done but with errors on page. Nothing shows up at all, just a blank screen. I have a feeling it has something to do with all the changes I had to make to get rid of lots of spyware/malware. If anyone could offer some thoughts and possible solutions, I'd really appreciate it. I haven't been able to update Windows in quite a while.

I'm running XP Pro. If any other information is needed, please let me know. Thanks to all who help in advance.

This software will not be installed. Contact your system administor.

The next little box that pops up says.

"DirectX Setup" on the top blue bar and then below it says. DirectX did not copy a required file.
Any help I can get on this stuff would be greatly appreciated.

I recently reloaded xp on my computer to fix an error created by another piece of software. Since than I cannot get my system to accept security updates from Microsoft. The down load works, but I get an error that indicates none of the updates can be installed. I am currently missing 70 updates. I have tried to load one at a time in the event I did not reserve enough disk space, but I still get the same results. Do you have any ideas how this can be fixed.

A:Cannot load latest windows update

Try this website:

http://www.getautopatcher.com/

It allows you to download all the patches (about 300 MB) and install what you need. I have a security camera pc(vendor configured) that does not allow access to the windows update website and I used this tool to patch the system. Hope it helps solve your issue.

Thanking you in anticipation

A:Windows update that fail to load

Try to restore your computer before the updates were downloaded using system restore. You can then download them again.

If you need more information on how to do a system restore just ask.

Good Luck

This is a Compaq Presario SR1120NX running XP Home, SP2.

About 4 minutes go by between the arrival of the Welcome screen and the appearance of the last icon in the tray. The "Start Windows .wav frequently plays while the Welcome screen comes up which is much earlier than it used to be.

There are 3 small Startup programs in that folder plus Norton System Works, Zone Alarm, Stopzilla, and CounterSpy plus the Volume Control and the "Safely Remove Hardware" icons in the tray.

I've run Chkdsk, Defrag, a Virus scan and every other repair uility that I have including Registry First Aid and CounterSpy.
Can someone give me a clue as to what else I can do before I restore Windows?

A:Windows XP very slow to load

Hello & welcome to TSF,

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create
this also applies for (SP3)

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

http://www.helpwithwindows.com/Windo...p2-bootcd.html

now if you do have the Windows XP cd with sp2 please follow these steps

--------------------------------------------

performing a (sfc) system file checker

It is a scan that checks the core files & dlls of the (os) operating system and replaces them if they are corrupt or missing with the correct original version

start

#1 then select (run) , then press enter
a window will open
#2 type in ( cmd ) then press enter
another window will open
#3 type in ( sfc )then press enter
another window will open
#4 type in (sfc /purgecache) then enter / your pc will work like crazy / this helps in rebuiding the cache file (notice the space between (sfc & /)
#5 type in (sfc /scannow ) then press enter ( notice the space between the (sfc & / )

now a scan will start , have your (Windows XP software disk ready ) your pc may ask for this disc when it starts or during the scan( so you must sit with the pc while this scan functions ) , if it does then incert the cd into one of your cd/rom/player's , your pc will then reconnize it and continue , you will then have to minimize the splash screen for the cd to see the scan , when the scan is finished you will need to close the cd and all open windows , then remove the cd

you will then need to do a ( Disk Cleanup ) , then empty the caches & temp files thru the (Internet Options) , then do a defrag

restart your pc

then do a defrag again after the reboot
-------------------------
also
-------------------------
now this is the process

a (sfc) is a windows scanner that is directed at the core system files & dll's

it scans only these files & dll's to see if they have been corrupted or replaced by (maleware/spyware/trojans/ viruses/ ect..that are designed to mask themselves as part of the operating system and cause havic or send information/data to it maker /originator

now i do know that during this process that these 2 patches/hotfix's will be knocked out

KB902400 & KB914440

to wich can be easily reinstalled by downloading them from the download center at microsoft / since microsoft is always creating patches & fix's for the software to solve issues they placemant & page that they are on will change / when downloading them you can save them for fucture use and reinstalling / just make a file and put them into it / one will ask to have the system rebooted ( yes ) the other simply is installed

i use (Belarc Advisor)to wich will show you all your installed patchs & fix's and if they are intack & will give you a direct link to microsft to either give you info on the patch/fix or a link to reinstall the patch/fix

you can download it here

http://www.majorgeeks.com/Belarc_Advisor_d1385.html

now with the removal of infections i find it to be best to do a (sfc) for from the process of removal some files/ dlls can be damage and need to be replaced

now also when you remove infections it can also cause added programs to act weirdly or to stop fuctioning all together to wich they may need to be repaired or reinstalled
---------------------

try this it helps mor then you think

also have you ever used (c-cleaner) ?

it has great features & a awsome (start up manager)

Hello,Now that you have posted a log here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/340542/computer-suddenly-very-slow-and-will-not-hibernate/ you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a MRT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the MRT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the MRT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the MRT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. Please be patient. It may take several days to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible. I advise checking your topic once a day for responses as the e-mail notification system is unreliable. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. Good luck with your log.Orange Blossom

A:slow windows XP(slow booting and programme running)

The u torrent made your computer slow. Check your Task MAnager for extra processes(remember to see processes for all users),check your computer with reliable anti-malware programs and antispyware programs like spybot S&D,Malwarebytes'Anti-Malware,Ad-Aware,and your AV program. Try online scanners like kaspersky and f-secure. If nothing helps, scan your computer with HiJackThis(post log here somewhere,I can't handle HJT logs. And dont AnalyzeThis)and OTListit by OldTimer(like a better version of HJT) Then put the Extras.Txt also in the mix as an attachment if this forum allows txt attachments. I would suggest malware from p2p sharing made it slow. If that fixes it,stay clean. Never visit any pornographic websites or download anything(except AV programs) without an Antivirus program like Avast!,AVG ,F-Secure,Norton etc.

On 12/8, I updated Windows 10 on my laptop (a Dell Latitude E6510) and after an hour of the update running, the laptop restarted, "Attempting repairs" came up, and from then on none of the options to get back into Windows worked. Couldn't restore (it claimed I had no previous restore point) couldn't get into Safe Mode (what Win10 is calling Safe Mode, anyway), and when I removed the SATA drive to connect it to my desktop computer as an external to make sure I had all my personal files, Windows read the drive as G: Reserved Space and H: Empty. When I tried to open the "empty" H: drive, it said it needed to be formatted. I'm not falling for that.Basically I need to recover five files out of the Desktop folder. I know they have to be there, I'm just about ten years out of the loop with data recovery. :)

After installing most recent critical update, my computer restarts and I get a balck screen with a little window that says "Setting up personalized settings Desktop Update" or something of the like (may have left a word out) and it never goes away. I can pull up task manager, end task, but explorer.exe also ends. If I then run task explorer.exe, the little window comes back.

I've system restored to before the update and I'm fine, then windows reinstalls the update and I have the same problem. UAC is off, i'm on admin account.

What do?

I installed the latest Windows updates this morning and my laptop is now taking an age to load.  No messages about updates installing or anything like that.

Once it finally uploads, I'm looking at the old Desktop, and I can't get the Apps screen to show.  Nor do the Settings come up when I go to the bottom right-hand corner.

I am able to use most things I need by using the Desktop but it's obvious there's something not right!

A:Since latest update, Windows 8.1 features will not load.

This may seem overly simplistic, but have you tried restarting the computer?

If this doesn't resolve the issue, go to the Control Panel and click/tap on Programs and Features.

In the upper left portion of the window click on View installed updates.

These updates are dated, so you should have no problem finding the update/s that you installed last.

Post what the update/s are.

Edit:  If there were no integrity issues found in the scan a log may not be available.

I have Power Suite on my computer and it said I had 6 outdated drivers which I updated. Now my Windows won't load. It gets to my desk top background, but can't even load the program icons. Then it starts the same process all over. I'm sure one of the updated drivers is the issue, but I can't get the computer to start in order to try System Restore. What can I do? I'm not very computer savvy, so go slow..

Thanks!

A:[SOLVED] windows won't load after driver update- xp

This is the reason it is best to get the driver from the manufacturer website. Most Driver Finder software will recommend incompatible drivers.

I see no beneficial reasons to using Power Suite software.

Boot the PC into Safe Mode. Once logged in run a System Restore

Restart the PC > repeatedly tap F8 during boot > at the Advanced Options choose Safe Mode
