Preferred Solution: This requires an expert!! Computer being used to Launch attacks!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Two problems started occuring today:

1) My primary (default) browser, Firefox 1.5.0.1 should launch when I login to my ISP but won't and it won't even launch when I double-click the icon or try Start>Run>Browse to locate it and run it.

Anyone got a solution for this one?

2) So, here I am using my IE browser, and on each forum, thread, new thread, PM, whatever, it gives me a login screen after I am already logged in.

What's going on, and does anyone have a fix for this?

3) Also, another symptom, possibly related to the Firefox (default) browser problem is that when I try to hyperlink to an email link (one embedded in an email message), again nothing launches - i.e. it should launch a new web page to the hyperlink in the email.

Anyone got a fix for this one?

Help!

Tia,

According to an assessment published by the Information Warfare Monitor, Chinese hacktivists (politically motivated hackers) have recently launched a targeted malware attack against foreign news correspondents attempting to trick them into executing a malware-embedded PDF attachment (Interview list.pdf), coming from a non-existent editor working for The Straits Times.

Hi and Welcome,

Please do the following:

Please download DDS from either of these links

LINK 1
LINK 2

and save it to your desktop.Disable any script blocking protection
Double click dds.pif to run the tool.
When done, two DDS.txt's will open.
Save both reports to your desktop.

Please include the contents of the following in your next reply:

DDS.txt
Attach.txt.

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. It will be a randomly named executable. Double click the exe file.
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan.

Click the image to enlarge it

In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are unchecked IAT/EAT
Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
Show All (don't miss this one)

Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in reply.

**Caution**

My computer is being constantly attacked from a few sites/other computers such as zz87jhfda88.com and I really want to stop it from happening. I read through the "First Steps" forum, but I'm afraid to shut down Norton while I run the DDS scan and the other scan, because the attacks are very frequent. It says to "close any running programs" while running the scans... does that mean I can have Norton running in the background or what? Any help is much appreciated.

A:Constant Attacks On My Computer

You shouldn't need to shut down Norton (other than a script blocker), but if you do, disconnect from the internet, and there's no concern of continued attacks while unprotected.

Please post logs in a new thread. I currently have as many open support topics as I can effectively handle, but wanted to answer your query to help keep you moving.

A:Slow Computer after Trojan Attacks

Hello and welcome to the forums! My secret agent name on the forums is SweetTech (you can call me ST for short), it's a pleasure to meet you. I am very sorry for the delay in responding, but as you can see we are at the moment being flooded with logs which, when paired with the never-ending shortage of helpers, resulted in the delayed responding to your thread.I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. If you have since resolved the issues you were originally experiencing, or have received help elsewhere, please inform me so that this topic can be closed. If you have not, please adhere to the guidelines below and then follow instructions as outlined further below:Logs from malware removal programs (OTL is one of them) can take some time to analyze. I need you to be patient while I analyze any logs you post. Please remember, I am a volunteer, and I do have a life outside of these forums.
Please make sure to carefully read any instruction that I give you. Attention to detail is important! Since I cannot see or directly interact with your computer I am dependent on you to "be my eyes" and provide as much information as you can regarding the current state of your computer.
If you're not sure, or if something unexpected happens, do NOT continue! Stop and ask!
If I instruct you to download a specific tool in which you already have, please delete the copy that you have and re-download the tool. The reason I ask you to do this is because these tools are updated fairly regularly.
Do not do things I do not ask for, such as running a spyware scan on your computer. The one thing that you should always do, is to make sure sure that your anti-virus definitions are up-to-date!
Please do not use the Attachment feature for any log file. Do a Copy/Paste of the entire contents of the log file and submit it inside your post.
I am going to stick with you until ALL malware is gone from your system. I would appreciate it if you would do the same. From this point, we're in this together ;)
Because of this, you must reply within three days failure to reply will result in the topic being closed!
Please do not PM me directly for help. If you have any questions, post them in this topic.
Lastly, I am no magician. I will try very hard to fix your issues, but no promises can be made. Also be aware that some infections are so severe that you might need to resort to reformatting and reinstalling your operating system.
Don't worry, this only happens in severe cases, but it sadly does happen. Be prepared to back up your data. Have means of backing up your data available.____________________________________________________Rootkit UnHooker (RkU)Please download Rootkit Unhooker from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.Link 1 (.exe file)Link 2 (zipped file)Link 3 (.rar file)In order to use this tool if you downloaded from either of the second two links, you will need to extract the RKUnhookerLE.exe file using a program capable of extracing ZIP and RAR compressed files. In my Netgear router logs, its showing '[DoS attack: STORM] attack packets in last 20 sec from ip [10.0.0.2], Monday, Jan 06,2014 00:50:55' many times over and over about every 20 seconds, which is coming from my computer, I am almost 100% positive I got no malware/viruses on my computer, anyone know why this is happening?

A:Router Log: Storm Dos attacks from my own computer?

Are you actually sure that, that is your PCs IP address?

Is your router a Netgear DG834GU V5 by any chance? , 10.0.0.2 is the default IP adress of that particular Netgear router.

Before, I didn't even know DDoS attacks could target any single computer out, but now I do.
The strangest thing is it is happening to my wireless laptop, and not any of the other three computers on this home network.

The attacks started on 7/19/2006, and my firewall reads out "Your computer has been attacked. Attack - DDoS (denied servicing). The attack has been successfully repulsed." Which is a lie, because I am still booted offline.

Since then, there has been 48 attacks, all usually happening each and every time I try to connect, bring up AOL, or Ie or even Firefox.

Please help me out.

- Troubled user

You probably have a neighbor with a wireless network and you may not have your security set properly on your laptop, router or both.

Hi For about the Continuous computer?! my attacks hack on past or months ever since I moved my computer from school to home I have been getting hacked almost continuously I am talking like anywhere from - hack attacks per hours And yes my computer sometimes is online for as much as - hours at a time Well maybe not that much but my computer is online for a much larger ammount of time than most people s computers are Anyway I am almost certain that it is abnormal for my computer to be hacked this much I have noticed that most if not all of the attacks are Trojan Horse Continuous hack attacks on my computer?! attacks I think that all of Continuous hack attacks on my computer?! the attacks have been Trojan Horse attacks I have been getting a lot of Backdoor Subseven trojan horse attacks and also a possible variant of the Backdoor Subseven trojan horse I must say that getting hacked this much is rather irritating Luckily my Norton Internet Security firewall which is always up to date along with Norton Antivirus and Norton Systemworks all versions Norton Internet Security seems to be blocking all of these trojan horse hack attacks but I really wish that there is a way that I could prevent myself from being hacked in the first place As you can see from my signature below I have a fairly high-end computer and this is a very expensive computer than I cannot afford to have any damage whatsoever done to I currently use AOL as my Internet Service Provider I have not contacted technical support on AOL about this but I am considering doing so as to possibly get my IP address changed or something to avoid these attacks in the future Everytime I get attacked I go to the Intrusion Detection settings in Norton Internet Security and place the hacker on my restricted list As I understand this is supposed to block all communications from these IP addresses Someone please help me I am at a loss to figure out how to prevent further attacks I truthfully do not know if it is possible with Norton Internet Security or not but I would even be willing to close certain ports to prevent further attacks I am really quite desperate to get these attacks stopped Somebody please help me nbsp

Computer hibernates satisifactorily but one half the time it must be restarted (with a password) to function.

A:Computer requires restart after sleeping

Keoweekid, welcome to the forum. It sounds like a glitch has occurred in the system.  I suggest going into the Control Panel / Power Options and changing all settings to Never.  Once this is done, reboot the computer.  Then, go back into the Control Panel and change the settings to what you want them to be.  This may solve your problem.  If this doesn't solve your problem, you may have to do a System Recovery. Also, if you are the only user of the computer, you can set it to boot with Auto logon.  This way you won't have to use a PW everytime you logon.  I have mine setup this way. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

this is on windows xp home edition, and i just had to click my name icon to start up windows before, and I don't know why it asks me for my username and password now..

Hello friends,

I am new here, I just received a new work computer that runs Windows 8. After connecting it to the network I had trouble with it being password protected and found help on this form post by Topgundcp. The new computer is now accessible from 3 of the other 4 (Win XP) computers but still locked for 1 computer. I can not figure out why or a solution, hopefully someone here knows the answer to this dilemma.

Thank you,
-W

Hello and thank you for your service. Please follow these guidelines while we work on your PC:Malware removal is a sometimes lengthy and tedious process. Please stick with the thread until I?ve given you the ?All clear.? Absence of symptoms does not mean your machine is clean!

When I let my computer run unattended, usually but not always, it will freeze and I must manually shut it down and reboot. Often the laptop feels very warm as if it is locked in a infinite computing cycle. On two occasions, out of the blue, I have seen flashing lines and a frozen screen requiring manual shut down. The word and excel icons have been replaced with generic icons but work normally. Spinrite finds no hard drive problems and several antiviral programs detect no viruses.

Occasionally, when I must manually reboot, the cursor hangs in the upper left corner and the computer is totally unresponsive to any command including manual shut down. However, if I close and open the lid, windows start up is initiated.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Hello Everyone,

Here lately my Windows XP system has been freezing randomly aup to five times a day. It requires a manual reboot with me holding the power button in for 5 seconds.

I use Trend Micro Internet security for spyware, virus protection etc. It has been very reliable the past few years and I rarely have problems with my computer. However, this is one problem that I haven't yet been able to solve.

If there is anyone out there that could assist me with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have a Samsung HD103UJ 1TB HDD that works fine on my HP DV7 laptop connected via USB. It mounts normally and all is well.

On my HP Pavilion desktop with a newly installed Windows 7 O/S, the drive can be seen in Device Manager, but when I open Disk Management, it says it needs to be initialized. I have not initialized it due to the fear of wiping out the content. I tried both USB and Sata with the same result. Both computers are running Windows 7 SP1 with the latest updates. Any suggestions?

My name is Jane and I am on a Windows X system and all has been great for a while About days ago I started having the computer freeze up suddenly At first it would recover after a short time but finally it totally crashed the system requiring a reboot to get going again It seems to happen a requires - freezing Computer randomly reboot lot when i right click on something but has also happened when the system was not active once today I was reading some web instructions and suddenly my screen went black and I got a message saying there was no video signal The progress I have seen with this was at first just freezing for a few Computer freezing randomly - requires reboot seconds then for a longer time Then it stopped recovering at all and the screen would black out and I would get the no signal message Now my user account is totally trashed If I try to log in to it I get a black screen the no signal message and have to reboot to get my video back I am using the Admin account to send this and it seems to be ok but I did have one crash from this account earlier too At first I thought it was something in Chrome so I uninstalled it and reinstalled because the crashes seem to always come when I was using Chrome I do not think that fixed it though because it has crashed since then I looked around in safe mode but I really have no idea of what I am looking for Any thoughts suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated

A:Computer freezing randomly - requires reboot

This might or might not help but is worth trying.
In administrator command prompt run sfc /scannow.

Then run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

in administrator command prompt & reboot & run sfc again.

Post back with results.

Both commands take a while to finish.
Up to an hour.

A:Every day my computer requires ipconfig /release, renew

Hi zocheyado,

Since the same issue occurs with the 'wired and wireless connection', it could be a 'corrupt firewall'. Please share the 'firewall' installed in the system. You may try to 'disable' the 'anti-virus / firewall' and see if that works.

Also check the performance of the internet in 'Safe Mode with Networking'.

In the mean while, you may also try to 'Reset IP' and 'Reset Winsock Catalogue'. You may find the following steps useful:
1. Click How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to run the 'Microsoft Fixit' and 'Reset Internet Protocol'
2. If the issue persists, also try type the following command in an 'Elevated Command Prompt' window: 'netsh winsock reset catalog' (without quotations)

For an 'Elevated Command Prompt' check this link: Elevated Command Prompt

Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions; would be glad to assist.

Hi, my computer is freezing up requiring a manual shut down and sometimes restarts by itself. My cpu fan went bad and i just had that replaced. Sometimes it takes 30-45 min before it acts up but most of the time it does it shortly after i boot it up. I have done a full reformat on the computer, installed windows again and everything. I am not too computer savvy so i don't know what else to do about this, i am at my wits end and i need to solve this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated

A:computer freezing and requires a manual shutdown

(My cpu fan went bad and i just had that replaced)

did you replace it yourself or did you take it somewhere?
first thing i'm thinking of is maybe the heatsink is not set right on cpu. can you tell us what your temps are?

Hi, I am new to information security, and I just joined cyber patriots. I want to learn how to secure a computer to prevent hackers from getting my information, and other's information.

A:Want to learn how to secure a computer and detect and stop attacks

2016 Summer camps:   https://www.uscyberpatriot.org/Documents/CyberCamps%20BatchGeo%202016.pdf

"AFA chapters, public and private high schools and middle schools, home schools, Civil Air Patrol squadrons, Naval Sea Cadet Corps units, scouting units, Boys and Girls Clubs, and, pending approval by the CyberPatriot National Commissioner, other non-profit educational organizations are encouraged to request and host AFA CyberC.  Organizations are required to supply all computer and technical equipment, as well as staff the camp session with a qualified adult instructor.  There are no age restrictions on the student participants in the CyberCamp program, but given the curriculum's targeted level of difficulty, the CyberPatriot Program Office recommends camps recruit local 7th -12th grade students with little to no cybersecurity experience."

From the above snippit, and from poking around the web site, I see lots of learning opportunities within uscyberpatriot.org.  and, BC tutorials has material that you can read through as you have time.

A:Computer's Running Slowly After Multiple Virus Attacks

Hi and welcome to Bleeping Computer! My name is Sam and I will be helping you. Before we can get started on fixing your problem you must change the location of Hijackthis. It should not run from a temp directory. Download and run the HijackThis autoinstall program Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files as the destination.Run the program only from that location from now on. It is essential that you follow these steps or certain important features of the program will not function correctly.=================Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.Click the Scan for Vundo button.Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button. You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YESOnce you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo. When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt even if Vundofix found no infected files.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting. Also post a new hijackthis log.

Facebook's millions of users are in the crosshairs of a computer virus dubbed Koobface that is being spread through the social networking site's messaging system.Users whose computers are infected may have their credit card numbers stolen or their searches on Google, Yahoo and MSN diverted to fraudulent Web sites. The malicious code underscores how hackers are increasingly targeting social networking sites including Facebook and MySpace to capitalize on their big audiences. Because social networking sites allow messages only between fellow members who are confirmed friends, many users assume they are safe.Quote from a SF Chronicle article titled:Koobface computer virus attacks Facebook usersVerne Kopytoff, Chronicle Staff WriterSaturday, December 6, 2008

In Router logs, it shows ddos attacks coming from my computer, I'm pretty sure I'm not infected, I've ran the following scans and no malware was found: HitmanPro, Malwarebytes, MRT, TDSSKiller, MBAR, and I've ran Antivirus scans, any idea why it is appearing in the logs?

I just built this computer up about a month ago. I have had nothing but bsod's. I haven't messed with the overclocking in any way. The bsod's happen just doing easy task. I usually have multiple browsers and multiple programs running when it happens but I don't think it should be taxing it at all. I just re-installed yesterday. I have only had one since the install yesterday so headed in the right direction. I have re-installed Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 a few times changing the way I install things each time. The system seems stable until it blue screens. I get a lot of reboot from a bugcheck errors.

System:
Win 7 Ult SP1 - Downloaded from Technet (Nothing came w/system)
The entire system except one of the monitors is about a month old. One of the monitors is about 3 yrs old. I have attached the zip file. Thanks ahead of time.

A:New Computer. Could use your expert help. BSOD frequently

Well the debugger is spitting out memory management error, normally I would tell you to start testing the ram, however you just reformatted so I'm going to agree with you and blame drivers.

I think you need to find a updated version of your marvell disk controller driver.
The system manufacturer's website will hopefully be helpful with that.

This appears to be what you need
IT Professional Technical Resources & Library: Mv91xx.sys BSOD Repair – Windows 7 X64
but as I don't have that device I can't test the driver for you, and as it's a blog I don't exactly know the guy, so use at own risk.

A:Computer Expert Needs Help, Very Clean HijackThis Log!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Right click on this link http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/DelO15Domains.inf and choose Save As. Save it to your desktop. Right click on that file and choose Install. You may delete it afterwards.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O15 - Trusted Zone: *.frame.crazywinnings.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.static.topconverting.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.frame.crazywinnings.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.static.topconverting.com (HKLM)

Reboot into Normal Mode and run new HijackThis scan. If there were some entries that didn't show up in Safe Mode, you may check and fix those that appear now in normal mode (if you do that, make sure to run a new scan again). Save the log file and run KRC HijackThis Analyzer in the same folder to get the result.txt log. Just post the contents of the result.txt file in the forum.

Hello guys,

I'm a computer software engineer and have some good skills on that area of computer world. But my knowledge about the hardware of the computer is poor. I guess best thing for start to be familiar with hardware is to knowing the CPUs and Graphic cards and like those. I'd like to entrust it to you to suggest me a good reference (such as a free ebook) for being familiar with computer hardware world.

A:How to become a computer hardware expert/technician?

Most schools have a PC "Hardware/Software" Maintenance class that will cover the basics without getting too complicated, and then you can look for any book that covers A+ certification material. That is where I would start.

Hello, I have been getting random freezes ever since I installed windows 7 starter... I had no problems before when this PC was running windows 7 trial version. When it happens my PC becomes unresponsive and whatever audio is played is looped(at a certain frequency) which is very annoying.. The only thing that functions is the CD/DVD drive. I have been trying to search for solutions but whatever solution I try from people with the same problem as me doesnt work. Please help me I don't know much about computers..

Edit: Also I can't seem to recreate this freezing thing. but most of the time it happens when I'm playing games... Although it sometimes happens even when I'm just browsing.

PS: Sorry for my english, im not american btw haha

Please explain what you did when you "installed" it, where you obtained the Win Starter version from, etc.

A:Screen and Computer Freezes Requires Hard Restart

Check your temp readings in Bios. Also clean your tower out with a can of compressed air. Also Check your Hard drive to see if it is failing.

Downloading UBCD which is in my signature.Burn the ISO Image to a blank CD using Imgburn (How to burn a ISO Image using Imgburn) burn at lowest speed. With the newly burned cd boot with the cd go to HDD>Diagnostics>The make and model of your hard drive, Seagate, Maxtor, Drive Fitness which is Hitachi, Or Western Digital. Perform a short and long test. Could also be called "Standard" and "Extended" test or also "Comprehensive" test.

If you can not find the right test for your hard drive your OEM computer may have it's own hard drive diagnostics testing tool. Refer to your OEM computer documentation to find out how to access these test. Also try going to the manufacture of your machine to find documentation about it. Also consider going to the manufacture of your hard drive to look to see if they have hard drive diagnostics test. The ideal test or method would include an ISO that could be burned via an image to a cd which would be made bootable.

It worked great the rest of day. Then it updated and all of a sudden, the same problem is back.

Any Help????

Thanks!!!

A:After most recent windows 7 updates, computer requires a login passwor

Hi i would go back to a restore point before thr updates. and see if it requires a password if not then i would set a password then do the updates again then if your password works to log in then can change it back to not using a password.

I bought a Maxtor Ultra ATA internal hard drive, and want to install it as a backup drive in my HP m1170n. However, the m1170n requires an SATA hard drive. Is there a converter, adapter, etc. that I can buy to make the Ultra ATA compatible with the m1170n? Please provide specific model numbers for any suggestions, if possible. Also, please advise about how much it should cost and if it is easy to install. Many thanks.

Originally I thought my issue was game or even driver specific but I ran into it again on a different game today so I figured I should ask on here So here goes My issue is that my computer will randomly freeze sometimes while playing games and its usually in locations that aren't really graphics intensive The three places it's happened so far are World of Warcraft multiple times several of those in the same area Arma only once and now Tom Clancy's The Division Open Beta twice in the same area I originally Computer - Hard Sound Requires Freezes Continues Reset - thought it was just an issue with World of Warcraft but then it happened on Arma and after a while it stopped happening altogether Just today I tried the Division Open Beta and it happened again I can still hear sound just Computer Freezes - Sound Continues - Requires Hard Reset fine which in and of itself isnt that strange a sound file could be really long and just continue to play while the computer is frozen but I can still hear people talking over VOIP too however unlike other similar issues that I've read about I cannot interact with the program at all Clicking pushing buttons etc do not produce any new sounds and the people on VOIP cannot hear me talking to them I cannot alt-tab ctrl alt del or really do anything I have to hard reboot What drives me insane is that no errors show up in Event Viewer or even in WhoCrashed so I have no idea what is causing it I have an Antec W PSU so I dont think it's a lack of power I've read around and didnt see anything that helped and the few threads I saw that were similar didn't sound like my issue Here's what Ive tried -Updating graphics drivers clean installation-Ccleaner-Checking Event Viewer nothing shows up there were event logs for Nvlddmkm crashes but the critical crashes produce no events except loss of power to the kernel when I hard reset -Turning off power save in the Ethernet adapter options-Benchmarking drives via Defraggler both turned up GOOD -Ran mdsched with passes returned no issues -Rolling back graphics driversIm running a GTX with GB RAM on an i k bit Windows I think the CPU has been factory overclocked from GHz to GHz since I get an error message saying overclocking failed whenever I hard reboot my computer Ive read people suggesting a mobo issue but really I'd like to see if there's anything else it could be since Im not really in a position to replace my mobo right now I can post dxdiag and msinfo reports if needed Thanks for your help

A:Computer Freezes - Sound Continues - Requires Hard Reset

I should note that turning all the settings down from High (auto-detected) to Medium kept me from crashing in that area, and turning down one of the settings on WoW has kept me from crashing since too, but why are graphics causing my whole computer to freeze? Especially on a GTX 770?

I am not confidant that I posess the skills, vocabulary or knowledge needed to participate in this forum however this random shut down problem has become so regular that I require some assistance. Essentially it feels like every time I leave the computer unattended for more than an hour or two I return to find the black screen of death telling me my computer did not shut down properly. Attached is the SF Tools file you reference. - Have figured out how to use Event viewer - 17 Critical Event occurances involving Kernal-power (Event ID41 Task Category63) since 2012_06_02; 1xJune 02, 1xJune 06, 1xJun 18, 1xJun 23, 2xAug 08, 3xAug 10, 1xAug 11, then twice daily since the 12th.

I have no idea what any of this means PLEASE HELP!!

A:BSOD now occuring 3+ times daily - computer illiterature requires help

I'm not a BSOD expert and our experts are very busy handling a lot of crash problems. Until one shows up you could try running some basic things to see if they help. I'd start out with a system file checker scan. This scan will look for and attempt to replace incorrect, corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions of your system files with the correct versions if possible. Run the scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

You could also check your hard drive to see if it has any issues like bad sectors (where things like your operating system, documents, etc reside.)

Disk Check

And don't overlook some common issues like an overheating computer. Make sure you have good ventilation around it, vents are free of dust, etc. A free utility called Speccy is available for download. It can provide real-time monitoring of temps for the hard drive, graphics card, and the processor. And don't forget to run a full security scan with your resident anti-malware. It wouldn't hurt to get a "second opinion" by running the free, and highly recommended, Malwarebytes.

Speccy - System Information - Free Download

Malwarebytes

And you could also go through this trobleshooting checklist prepared by one of the Forum experts. It's fairly time consuming but has helped many people isolate specific issues.

I'm unsure if this is a virus or some sort of problem with parts of my computer. My pc is locking up at random intervals and requires a hard reboot. I have ran a recent scan on mbam and it found a pup crossfire virus. I'm hoping the issue can be resolved easily instead of having to buy a new pc or new parts.

Starting a few days ago When ever i booted my PC after about 3-5 minutes on it would freeze. After hard reboot I would either get BSOD or the monitor wouldn't work. I've ran a full scan with both avast and malwarebytes and I'm not infected. I'm running memtest now, 6 passes and no errors.

Memtest finished 7 passes not 1 error.. restarted system was fine til earlier when i got home.. turned on PC and few mins in it froze again. had to hard reboot a few times didn't get any BSOD this time.

So recently I've been this problem with my computer. It's always at a random time, it doesn't necessarily seem to have a specific pattern, but it always seems to happen when I'm either playing a game, listening to music, or watching a video. It could be connected, or it could happen at random, I'm not sure. Basically the computer completely locks up, freezes entirely, and the sound loops/stutters on the last sound that was being played endlessly. It NEVER crashes, and I do not ever receive a BSOD. I have tested, waiting over 15 minutes for it to do anything, it simply sits there and remains locked up and frozen until I hard restart my computer.

I have absolutely no idea what's causing this, as I've never had an issue with my computer like this, especially something that doesn't produce atleast an error or BSOD of some kind, so it's rather puzzling.

Hey there kinda new here Anyway Let's get down to business I don't know how to upload anything such as attachments otherwise I'd upload the PCHF results as Reboot Chrome Computer Requires Crashes/Stalls Hard - Google well as the MiniToolBox results Yet here's the speccy results http speccy piriform com results uxPbM rX Rufa ftyeSo So whenever I do anything open try to uninstall etc with google chrom my computer is fine for about three seconds then it stalls for about twenty seconds After this is -seems- fine yet really isn't Upon attempting ot do anything log off open the task manager etc the little spinning circle indicating it is loading pops up then it just outright freezes Google Chrome Crashes/Stalls Computer - Requires Hard Reboot from anywhere between two to five minutes After that the mouse can be moved the keyboard is not locked up as I can toggle caps lock num lock etc yet because everything else is still locked up I cannot do anything or see anything being typed if it is at all I have run multiple virus scans with Windows Security Essentials full scans I have run startup recovery I have attempted to system restore yet that failed each time My system is absolutely malware free and as of a month or so ago all of my drivers are up to date which I -think- may be part of my problem As I vaguely recall having a similar issue with chrome after updating my video drivers a Google Chrome Crashes/Stalls Computer - Requires Hard Reboot year or more ago I had to as I recall roll back my drivers to resolve the issue I am hoping I don't have to do that again and I have no idea if it will even solve the issue as I've successfully been using these drivers for well over a month now Once I know how to upload things I'll also upload my MiniToolBox and PCHF results Thanks in advance for your time if you need any additional information please feel free to ask D

Can I get some help?  I can't figure out how to upload attachments at all.  I've read your help topic here yet that doesn't help at all, it just tells me how to attach things however the buttons to do so are not at all available in the topic editor.  I've looked over the media library thing and can't upload it there I really have no idea how to include the files for viewing.

A:Unusual computer behavior: Confusing ruined sound, Norton blocking consistent attacks, Exceptional slow program loading

I wish to add... an unusual update.
I went to play a game shortly after making this post while awaiting a reply and noticed the program opened instantly. Confused, I checked my audio manager and noticed it now detects my sound card. Google Chrome is also working and I haven't seen a norton attack.

I am, to say the least vastly confused at this point. I had not run any scans before my recent reboot: My last scan being last night and I rebooted right after.

i am using xp pro and i only display 3 icons in the quick launch area of the taskbar. they are a/v, speaker vol, and firewall. these used to show up within seconds of the desktop being displayed. however, the a/v icon pops up right away, on startup, but the speaker and firewall icons wont show up for 2-3 minutes. during this time, the machine s usable (slightly slow). now i use Codestuff Starter v5.6.1.19 to control my startup items and only the 3 previously mentioned are included there. when this first started, i did a restore from when it was good and that didnt help. i am not adverse to a format if necessary. i need your help/advice and tkz in advance, aloha

I have had this software installed on my computer for over 1.5 years now and never had this issue. All of the sudden whenever I launch Acrobat Reader 8 Professional. I get the error message saying I must launch at least one other suite program before it will run. It comes up with this error... even though I'm already running Photoshop and Illustrator.

The only thing I can think of is that I just recently downloaded and installed Adobe AIR for TweetDeck. Does anyone know if this could cause the problem or how to fix it?

I can't run TweetDeck without the Adobe AIR????

A:Computer can't launch EXE files! =(

Have you tried running them in safe mode?

To get to safe mode (of Windows):

Restart & keep tapping the F8 key until you bet a black screen with a white 'Boot menu'

Choose safe mode.

You'll see loads of junk running up your screen, then when you get into windows everything will look bigger.

Try running one of the programs.

To go back to normal mode, just restart windows as normal.

Also you could try uninstalling on e of them then restart & reinstall them like that instead.

Good luck!

Last time i played it i had a Radeon 9800 and it worked fine, now I have an Nvidea 6800 with the most up to date drivers and it does not work. thats the only difference in hardware i've made since then and now.

My dad has a toshiba satellite pro laptop and he's got a strange problem with it. When he restarts his computer he gets 1 of 2 things happening. About 20% of the time he gets a bunch of messages (one says that his virus protection is not enabled, another says something about a license) when he signs on and after he cancels out of those messages then everything works fine. The other 80% of the time he does NOT get those messages and when he clicks on any program (like IE) then he gets an hour glass and nothng loads.

Any idea why this would be the case? How would we fix that?

Bump.

Really stuck on this one. I got the computer to respond (sort of) in safe mode and ran the rkill and then malewarebytes just to see if that would help. Rkill showed no issues, malewarebytes found some items, asked to reboot and then when the reboot happened there was no improvement at all.

A:Computer refusing to let Firefox launch.

Back up all your data, then perform a factory recovery to install a fresh copy of Windows.

Hope someone can help - when I open either "Windows Explorer" or "My Computer" and click on the link to My Computer my pc takes several minutes to display the contents (which is just the drives on the pc). I get the torch waving over the folder icon for some time and it seems that windows is "scanning" the pc. Once it has displayed the contents I have no problems, its just happens the first time I select the "My Computer" folder either through explorer or directly from "My Computer". Is there some sort of setting that is causing the problem perhaps? I've tried reinstalling XP (Home) including SP2 but the problem persists. Any guidance would be appreciated.
PS. pc is new, 3.2Ghtz with lots of RAM so it shouldn't be a speed issue.

A:Explorer slow to launch "My Computer"

Do you have any cds in the drive or connected to any network shares? When you go into my computer/explorer for the first time, it needs to get the status/properties of each drive. Therefore, if you have slow reading devices like network drives or cdroms it can take a bit

My computer freezes entirely when I launch a game called CS:GO. I can't even do ctrl+alt+del and alt+f4. The buttons that emit light won't respond like when I press the caps lock button, it wont indicate a light on the right side of the keyboard. Why is this happening? I have a GTX 970 ZOTAC Extreme Edition, and normal temps on cpu and gpu. Help?

Hello,
I have a computer that will sometimes give me the Blue Screen of Death when I try launching a game. Before, it would only happen sometimes, but now it seems to happen almost every time. It happens when I launch any of the games on Steam (Half-Life 2, Garry's Mod, etc.), BioShock, Crysis, and Call of Duty 2. The computer quickly restarts, so I can never have time to write down any of the details on the screen.

My computer is:
AMD X2 4400+
1GB RAM
Radeon X1900XT 512MB Card
ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe
Windows XP SP2

All of my drivers are up to date, and I am just confused on what to do. I don't know if this will help too much, but I included a HiJackThis log in case it can help. So what could I do to fix this problem?

Thanks in advance
