Wireless N Support for PS3?

Q: Wireless N Support for PS3?

Doing some research to finally set a home wireless network. I have an original PS3 and am trying to determine if there are any wireless N adapters that are compatible. Have seen contradictory reports on the web so Im curious if anyone here has this up and running or can make a specific recommendation.

Preferred Solution: Wireless N Support for PS3?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You can set up a wireless network using ANY wireless capable device. PC's, Notebooks, PDA's and PS3's. The methods are the same

Hello All Here's my problem My Acer Aspire Z- had an Acer Update program on it I downloaded the updates it recommended and installed them I was getting blue screen crashes after that I couldn't figure out what was causing it Then due to a router firmware problem I didn't know it until i went into the router to change wireless password because I was getting ticked off I couldn't connect any longer the update was done BSOD with killed tech wireless, my support wireless and I didn't change the password because after this update I was able to connect wireless again I was connecting with a network hard cable I noticed the blue screen crashes had stopped After the firmware update I was able to connect wireless again so I unplugged the hard cable and resumed wireless use After a couple of hours I had another blue screen crash The only thing that had changed was that I was back to using wireless to connect to the router So I got a flash of insight that maybe conflicts with the drivers were causing the crashes so I called tech support BSOD with wireless, tech support killed my wireless and the tech walked me through uninstalling the wireless driver that was showing Broadcomm He also had me uninstall ms miniport which was also listed in there I read in an old post here or at another tech forum that it wasn't possible to uninstall it as it was part of Windows in one reply to that post another reply in that post said that it came with the person's wireless driver and he could just disable it Well it seems that it BSOD with wireless, tech support killed my wireless is possible to uninstall it as I uninstalled it as instructed by the tech and it hasn't come back And it doesn't seem to be part of any of the drivers available for download for my model I know this because I reinstalled all the wireless drivers listed for my model after an online chat with another tech she recommended doing a recovery of the system I don't want to do that I don't think I should have to do a recovery of my system and lose all my software and have to reinstall it again just to fix this problem So I decided to hit the forums Stopped here first it seems very active and the replies to posts seem to be knowledgeable The wireless drivers the acer site lists for this model are Broadcomm Intel Realtek and Atheros I thought this was too many drivers but decided to reinstall them all anyway thinking it might be possible each one handled a different thing for example the atheros driver seems to install something called fast reconnect Anyway the techs at Acer didn't seem to be able to tell me what wireless chipset is in the system they just wanted me to do a recovery And ms miniport has never come back And even after reinstalling all drivers wireless is still messed up and Win network diagnostics can't seem to pin down the problem or fix it The Acer vendor detector utility they told me to use says that it is a broadcomm board or chipset But just installing that wireless driver alone I did install the broadcom ethernet driver too doesn't give me back wireless diagnostics says there is a problem and it can't fix it And still no MS Miniport Any help would be greatly appreciated

A:BSOD with wireless, tech support killed my wireless

sorry to bump this post but I'm having trouble locating any information on this problem. Is there at least a way to remove all the drivers I installed and start over, maybe use find new hardware to reinstall the correct drivers and ms miniport? I have used the technique in other posts to activate miniport and it isn't showing up in device manager under network stuff like it had been before

I'm just wondering if miniport is necessary for wireless connection for some reason, maybe how they had it set up by Acer. I used recovery just to reinstall the factory drivers, but no joy. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi, I have some issues with my existing Intel WiFi Card - 6205. Before putting in a support requst I was wondering what are the compatiable cards for this product? Looking online, I found at the link http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/t530_fru_bom.pdf that Intel 6250 WiMax and N-6300 are compatiable under the FRUs 60Y3195 and 60Y3233 respectively. However, Intel has just launched the 7260 AC card which is much faster and I was wondering if the T530 supports that i.e. if it has been whitelisted given that it was whitelisted for X140e and is being offered for newer Thinkpads online. I would appreciate if anyone can provide more information about compatible cards and the possibility of an AC card on T530. Cheers,507437218

Hello,GDS507437218 wrote: However, Intel has just launched the 7265 AC card which is much faster and I was wondering if the T530 supports thatno, the T530 doesn't support the Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7265, as it's an M.2 card, while the T530 uses mPCIe ports for WLAN and WWAN cards.GDS507437218 wrote:the possibility of an AC card on T530.As mPCIe Wireless AC cards like the Intel AC 7260 (the card is available both in a M.2 and a mPCIe version) aren't included in the whitelist of the T530, it isn't possible. In contrast to older ThinkPads, there is no whitelist-free modded UEFI available that you can flash easily. Kind regards, Felix

Hi,

I've got a TP-LINK TL-WN721N Wireless USB adapter, and I'm currently using it as an Access point via the software "Connectify".

My cellphone connects well(WPA2-PSK) but I would like to connect my PSP slim to it, which only supports(WEP and WPA).
Now Connectify supports only WPA2 and WPA, but is there any way to connect my PSP by WPA?

Any method or software?

Hello, I am looking to upgrade my laptop's wireless to wireless AC.  I am looking for a Mini PCI Express wireless AC card that is compatible with my system.  I heard that this laptop is only compatible with certain wireless cards and it will not work with wireless cards from intel.  Is that true??  Thanks.

A:Wireless Mini PCI Express Support for Elitebook 725 G2

I found a random forum post on http://forum.notebookreview.com/ of an owner of J5N82UT (one of the 725 G2 SKUs) who claims Intel AC7260 worked on his/her machine. I see 725 G2 are available from HP with one of the three WiFi options,Broadcom 802.11 a/b/g/n AC (2x2) and Bluetooth® 4.0Broadcom 802.11a/b/g/n (2x2) and Bluetooth® 4.0Atheros 802.11b/g/n (1x1) No Intel options there, but maybe it'll just work. Some(?) models of 725 G3 comes with Intel AC7265 from factory, like mine, but G3 is different from G2.Maybe HP BIOS already whitelists Intel adapters, even if some models aren't offered with them. I doubt HP would say anything one way or another.  You'll just have to try it. Update: I'd ignore the "expert" opinion below if you really want the Intel one.  Even with a little Googling, I see people complaining about Broadcom ones (Dell XPS, for example) and those people being happy with Intel ones after replacing it on their own. Maybe this is the same person who posted on notebookreview.com, but at least that person claims it works with 7260 AC according to this review: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834259147

Will Lenovo add official support for Sierra Wireless MC7710 http://www.sierrawireless.com/productsandservices/AirPrime/Wireless_Modules/High-speed/MC7710.aspx please ? It is LTE/HSPA+ WWAN "Gobi 4000" module for Europe region. By support I mean to whitelist the device in BIOS at least, assuming the WWAN card will be Lenovo branded one for X230 model. Please consider that many of us could wait for X230 with official 4G WWAN support but the keyboard layout change was unacceptable so we bought X220 instead. Because Lenovo don't want to introduce ThinkPad classic keyboard as X230 option they could allow X220 owners to use up-to-date WWAN cards instead.

A:X220 support for 4G/LTE Sierra Wireless MC7710 WWA...

There is a little bit problem for implementing full featured LTE support in x220 - mc7710 needs 3 antennas. Perhaps one of them is for GPS only, I don't have clear information. MC7700/7750 support restricted number of bands for US market so may be they don't need 3rd antenna in x230. We'll see some answers when x230' parts list will be published and compare antennas FRU.But your request is very important for me too.

They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post serial numbers and case details. If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, this post has instructions.

I have HP Photosmart Wireless B109 which works with other computers I have.  I recently obtained new laptop running Windows 7 Pro. When I try to install printer drivers (either from disk or from web) I get error message after system check which says that 'this computer does not have the necessary USB software support to allow completion of USB installation. The installation cannot continue until this is resolved'. I have contacted the laptop supplier and downloaded and reinstalled the USB drivers and then rebooted. There is no problem with my USB connections. However, I still get the USB error message when I try to install the latest HP driver. The laptop supplier insists that the problem is with the HP printer software and not with the laptop.

Hello, I only found out after purchasing the Y510P laptop that it for some strange reason does not support 5Ghz networks, only 2.4Ghz. This results in me having insanely slow connection every single night around peak hours (7-11pm), and I'm unable to do anything like watching movies, playing games or download stuff. Does anyone know exactly how to upgrade the wireless card on this laptop so it supports 5Ghz networks? Do I have to go out and buy another wireless card, or is it software upgrades like drivers only? I'm not a computer major so a walkthrough would be appreciated. Thanks.

I can't get any drivers from Dell/Broadcom site that are compatible with Win 10 on my machine. it means your laptop will use windows universal drivers for wifi which will results weaker signal, it will be better for you to wait until official drivers are out for your model then install the driver after installing windows 10 to keep your signal strength.

I just purchased a Dell Inspiron N5050 laptop computerspecifically because I wanted a computer that would support WiDi (IntelWireless Display) to my HDTV. I had been under the assumption that all currentgeneration laptops included Intel Wireless Display technology.
After receiving the computer, I have just discovered thatthe wireless network card in this machine apparently does NOT support wirelessdisplay technology. Is there a way that I can replace the network card in thismachine with one that DOES support wireless display technology or at least addan additional card to the machine that supports wireless display? Or…am I stuckwith a machine that does not have the capability that I need?  Thanks for any help.

A:Can Inspiron 15 - N5050 Support Intel Wireless Display (WiDi)?

Hi Scott_SK,
Welcome to the Community.
To be able to use the Intel Wireless Display the system needs to have the  following minimum requirement as given in this link below :
www.intel.com/.../CS-031059.htm
Replacing the wireless card(Dell Wireless card with Intel) or adding wireless card will not help as this feature should be enabled on the system from the factory.
If your system is within 21 days from the invoice date you may returm the system for full refund and re-order a system which supports the WiDi technology.
Thank You

We are Dell resellers and had placed an order for 43 Laptops - Dell Latitude 3560 with Dell on 13th June, 2016. We delivered them to our customer on Friday 17th June, 2016. On Monday 20th June we discovered that all the Laptops are faulty and are not functioning properly. They have not been able to use a single system due to touchpad issues in the entire lot
We have made innumerable calls Dell to resolve the problem, but the team is unable to identify and rectify the problem.
We have spoken to our partner account manager, regional account manager, Service Specialist and Escalation Team, requesting them to provide us with a solution at the earliest as their work is getting hampered. Our customer has to deploy the same by 1st July however they do not have any Dell Laptops functioning correctly.
How do we escalate this to the Dell management and get a replacement ASAP
Regards

Started about a month ago - pops up over and over and over and over - about every five minutes or less.  I've got a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7 Professional.  Another forum said to just uninstall Dell Support Center (Support Center Software) - but when I try to uninstall it - THE SAME STUPID WINDOW POPS UP ASKING ME TO INSERT THE SOFTWARE.  I tried doing a Browse and it's looking for DSC20.msi.  I haven't managed to find it yet.  I have at least found \Program Files(x86)\Dell Support Center but there's so many sub-directories...
I shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops just to uninstall a program.  This is driving me crazy and I haven't found an answer online yet.

This is a General question regarding the end of support for XP. I realise at the end date the computer should be backed up in case you have to format the disc at any time after the end of the support period.

My question is does the built in Windows back up in XP when backing up the system include the installed updates? Or is it best to use third party software to do this.

A:[SOLVED] End ofThis is a general question regarding the end of support for XP support

I believe Windows just backs up your personal files and won't do the entire OS. You'll need a 3rd party program to do the entire HDD.

Also you really should think about upgrading to Windows 7. Staying on XP after the end support date is not recommended as you will lose security updates from Microsoft as well as patches.

Anyway I've heard you can run the setup with Windwos Vista compatiblity mode but I don't know if it is safe. Anyone know?

I think the revamped Support Assistant is brilliant - especially for drivers where it checks your PC, rather than give you a list of driver updates for your model, as the old website-based Driver Update checker did. It has an "Add a device" facility but it doesn't find my HP DCP_J315W printer, connected via wireless. Does Support Assistant support printers? edited 08:07: typo

I have a printer (with wireless capability) wired to desktop (Windows XP) and a wireless laptop (Windows 7). My question is, can the printer be connected wirelessly to the laptop as well as wired to the desktop, or does everything have to be wireless?
Another question: If I want to share files between the two computers, do they both have to be the same operating system? (one is Windows XP and the other is Windows 7)

A:Solved: Wireless Laptop/Wireless Desktop (via wireless adapter)/ printer

I would guess that the printer can be connected by ethernet and wireless, but I've never had one with both capabilities so I don't really know.

I once had a printer that worked OK connected to a network plus connected to another computer by USB. Even so, that may depend on the particular printer.

There may be two operating systems that cannot file share with each other but I don't know which ones that might be. Windows XP and 7 are fine sharing with each other (but not claiming that nobody has had any problems).

A:How do I change to wireless? No wireless option, no wireless adapter

What is the make and model of the PC? Is it a laptop? Is there by any chance a switch that turns the wifi on/off?

If the wifi worked in the past and suddenly stopped working, I would suspect that the adapter failed but it could also be switched off or the driver got corrupted or otherwise disabled somehow.

Hi, I currently connect to the internet through a wired ethernet port in the wall which connects to my university's network.

I want to make this wireless since I bought a new macbook and was wondering if this product would do it? http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006PYGWG6

I don't know much about it but I was concerned because the Router Mode says 'cable connection only' and I'm not sure the connection is cable (is it ADSL?). Will I need anything else like a modem?

Any advice?

Hi Guys,

I guess this is a pretty straight forward question. I'm trying to connect and charge at the same time a XBOX 360 wireless controller with Windows 7 without buying a Wireless Gaming Receiver. Please only post if you have a resolution for this problem with step by step instructions on how this is done if it even is possible.

Thank You

Vlad

A:Connect / charge wireless XBOX 360 controller Windows 7 w/o Wireless Gaming Receiver?

Well to connect wirelessly you will need to buy a receiver..

But for wired, download this:

http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...x360_32Eng.exe

Then insert your Controller into the PC using a Play&Charge USB cable.

Hi:Is this ipconfig /all at failure time ?
Try two things.
Go to the router makers site and download any more current firmware for your model.
Change the wireless channel being used.1/6/11 are US preferred.

Hi All Here at work we recently had an wireless shows adaptor signal find utility cannot in but networks, Wireless levels access point installed for customer access to the internet We have had no problems with anyone access the network until today I am not that knowledgeable with wireless so please forgive me if I fail to give you what you need to help Installed D-Link DWL-G AP Wireless Access point normally customer just click on connect to networks and their adapter finds the many wireless networks in our area about They choose our network and type in the network key and they are connected We have a customer in this morning now that cannot connect Here is what I have found If you click on the wireless icon choose connect to any network You get quot Cannot find any network quot I Wireless adaptor cannot find networks, but shows signal levels in wireless utility then setup a connection manually still does not find networks Here is the weird part If you go into the Control Panel choose Wireless Config Utility Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility Choose site monitor site It shows a list of the wireless networks and there signal strength So the wireless adapter is receiving the wireless signals but will not connect or show them in the list of wireless networks I would really appreciate help in figuring out what is keeping this computer from connecting nbsp

A:Wireless adaptor cannot find networks, but shows signal levels in wireless utility

It shows a list of the wireless networks and there signal strength. So the wireless adapter is receiving the wireless signals, but will not connect or show them in the list of wireless networks.Click to expand...

I don't understand "It shows a list of the wireless networks" in the same paragraph with "will not ... show them in the list."

I have a problem with my home wireless network. My network operatates at 2.4 GHz and so does my home wireless phone. Everytime my phone rings I get disconnected from my wireless network. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

A:Everytime my wireless home phone rings I get disconnected from my wireless network.

Welcome to Tech Spot

Do you have 802 B or 802 G wireless?

When I was in Best Buy, one of the sale people mentioned how 2.4 GHZ phone interferes with 802 B Wireless networks (uses same frequencies).

He mentioned that 802 G wireless network were not affected with the phones.

I've got a wireless ADSL router with 4 ethernet ports. I've a desktop using XP and connected via ethernet and a laptop running windows 98 connected using a wireless PC Card. I can connect to the internet from both machines but can't get them to see each other.

Laptop says it can't browse the network. I tried the network setup wizard in XP and created a disk when prompted. Tried disk in 98 and rebooted when prompted. On startup, wizard said it couldn't find network card and couldn't continue.

Any help gratefully received. Thanks.

A:Wireless ADSL router, XP Home connected via cable, Win 98 via wireless card - HELP!!!

Checklist for networking Windows Machines with TCP/IP
-----------------------------------------------------
- PCs which are not XP must have TCP/IP installed.
- Each PC must have a unique computer name.
- Each PC must have a network share defined.
- ALL NICS must be on the same subnet (e.g. IP 192.168.0.* subnet mask 255.255.255.0).
- XP PCs must have Netbios over TCP/IP enabled (only essential for XP to talk to W9X PCs).
- MS Client and file & printer sharing must be enabled on each machine.
- All NICs must have their node type = anything except p-node (peer to peer, or point-point).
* To check, open a command prompt and type IPCONFIG /ALL.
- XP's ICF firewall is permanently disabled. (Only necessary for pre XP SP2).
- All 3rd party firewalls are disabled, uninstalled and deleted (until connection is working).
- PCs have the same workgroup (helps, but not essential for XP/2K, necessary for 9X/ME).

Allow 15 mins after rebooting a PC for that PC to appear in the workgroup, or
for it to see all other PCs. Or you can search for the PC by its computer name.
Additional things to check if you still have problems:
-----------------------------------------------------
- Check your Services are Started on all PCs: Workstation, Server, TCP/IP Netbios helper, Computer Browser.
- XP gives access to its shares via the Net Guest Account. (Note, not the same as the local guest account in user accounts which should be off). Net Guest Account is enabled by default in XP, but to check it, open a command prompt and type: NET USER GUEST
Should return a line with 'Account active yes'.
Check XP Security policies:
--------------------------
- Access this computer from the network: add guest
- Deny logon locally: remove guest
- Network access:Sharing and security model... -> Guest only
- Deny access to this computer from the network-> check Guest is not here.

I set up everything and if I have it wired it works fine but wireless it says can't find page when you try to get on the internet. I have set up networks before and never had a problem. first time I have used a Belkin router G+ I guess one of my question is this. I was reading on the Belkin site that it is already set for dynamic and that is for a cable modem and sounds like I should change it to pppoe for a DSL modem. would that make the difference. It is a brand new laptop and the wireless card is on and it sees the network and works when wired, it says it is connected wirelessly but wont get on the internet when not wired. Would the pppoe thing make a differnce? Please give me some help here. Thanks

I have recently sorted out the wireless connection of a child's laptop to a wireless printer. It works perfectly. Howver, the parent's, wired, desktop computer does not now print. No changes were made to the desktop , which was working fine before this.. I am not at the location now but are there any ideas why this should suddenly occur. Both computers are running XP.

A:Wireless printer not printing from wired computer after connection by wireless lapto

Wireless printers can be connected both by USB and wireless simultaneously. However, I have come across many that say they should but don't do so easily. Sometimes they have to be setup wireless first then USB and others vice versa..
In my opinion, it is probably the best option to add the printer to the desktop through the network. Then there should be no problems with setup. Hope that helps..

Delete all wireless profiles. Then try again to connect.

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.

Hello!

I will start this off by freely admitting I'm not great with computers and usually don't know what I'm talking about.

I have an Acer Aspire 4720Z laptop.
I recently wiped it clean and installed Windows XP, and have not been able to connect to wireless internet ever since.
I used the Acer website to download the drivers, extracted all the files, etc.

When I open Intel PROSet/Wireless, I get an error message that it is "unable to detect a supported wireless adapter. Please install a supported adapter."

Also, Intel PROSet/Wireless does not appear on my Device Manager. (The only things that are listed under "Network adapters" is 1394 Net Adapter and Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet.) I feel like that's probably part of the problem, even if I'm not sure why, haha.

What can I do to get my wireless access back?

Thank you.

Hey everyone,
I got a new HP laptop running Windows 7. When I turn on my laptop, my wireless is off. So I click on F12 (my wireless button), to activate my wireless. The orange light turns blue. Even though the light indicates that my wireless is on, I have to go to device manager>networking>802.11n>advanced then activate my radio for my laptop to pick up the wireless signals. The problem is that I have to do this every time I turn on my laptop, and its getting quite repetitive. Please give me instructions on how to allow the Laptop to do this automatically, rather than me doing it manually on every start up.

I've had wireless on this pc before A while back we had a tech come out from out internet provider to fix a few things and we told him we already have a few other devices on our wireless network so it may be a better idea to connect through an ether-net cord to our main pc for a more secure connection That has worked fine for the most part but now there's a different problem and I think I need to be able to connect wireless in order to fix it If it matters the problem is that any game I try to patch via the game launcher times-out I actually spoke with a CSR from Square Enix he said it may have to do with the port-forwarding then I spoke with a rep in technical support from our local provider and she said there is no port forwarding through the ir ether-net but it wireless longer driver/Can't has Computer a detect wireless network no is available through wireless So that's essential what has brought me here I'll upload a couple of pics so you can actually see that A Computer no longer has a wireless driver/Can't detect wireless network There is no wireless enabled on my pc at all and B There's no wireless driver - just the one on my driver list that tbh I don't know much about I've already tried uninstalling the driver then re-installing didn't detect anything Computer no longer has a wireless driver/Can't detect wireless network I've tried power-cycling my modem I've messed around with every option in the quot Network and Internet quot settings in my control panel I've checked all around the outside of my pc JUST IN CASE it's weird and has a switch somewhere that enables disables wireless Just to confirm yes there is indeed wireless being transmitted throughout our home We have phones a DS and a smart tv hooked up to it So does anyone have any recommendations beyond what I've already done

Have you tried checking the various setting in the network folder? Also, your router has a configuration web page doesnt it? a page you would go to; in order to change the router settings? If so, log into that page and check the router settings. Also; even though the router is new I believe you mentioned; there might be a firmware upgrade for the router that you should be able to easily check for. Im not familiar with the type of router you have. but you should be able to get into the settings fairly easily.

My old wireless was working fine, I simply updated my internet to faster speed and so I updated my router and modem hardware. I've consulted online manuals but cannot find the locations I'm told to go to enter new WPA-PSk codes for the new router. The wired internet is working fine and the XBOX & my phone shows a listing for my new router however I get an error message when entering the passcode from the router - my guess is that my desktop still has the old router info - I just can't find where to enter the new.

A:Solved: Updated Wireless Hardware on Windows XP Desktop - Can't get new wireless to w

Delete the wireless profile and scan for your network. When you try to connect you will be prompted for the WPA passphrase.

If that doesn't work disable encryption on the router and try to connect. Assuming success you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect.

Hi all,
I just connected with WiMax, problem is I have the wimax wireless router in the house(all good).

But my office is in the garage! I was hoping to run an ethernet cable from WiMax Zylex router to my Belkin Wireless Router.

Is this the way to go about, sharing my internet connection? Also can anyone
give me any pointers on how to go about doing this.

cheers,
LiverKing.

A:Connect WiMax wireless (Zylex) with my Belkin N wireless router

I am no expert but will try to help. If I have understood you correctly, you only require the one router.
If the router in the house is a wireless router and your computer in your office is equipped for Wi-fi you could connect wirelessly. You will need the access code for the router when you try to connect. I think it will be a WEP or a WPA PSK code.
Otherwise run a ethernet cable from your house router to your office and connect it direct to your office computer (not too a second router) This is probably the safest method anyway if you do not need wireless.
You will then need to set up a network by going to "Control Panel" and clicking on "Network Setup Wizard" and following the instructions.
Hope that is of some help to you.

In a few days time I will be changing my ISP in the UK from Sky to BT.

BT are providing me with their newest wireless router free of charge as part of the deal and I'll be using that to set up my wireless network, which will consist of an HP Pavilion desktop, a Toshiba laptop, a Sony Vaio laptop, an HP wireless printer and a Samsung HDTV.

This means my Sky wireless router is surplus to requirements, so I was wondering if I could convert it to a wireless access point to improve the range of my BT wireless network.

If so, how do I go about it?

I've read a couple of supposedly easy-to-understand articles on Google and have to say they left me more confused than ever.

Is there a straightforward way of doing this?

A:How do I convert a spare wireless router to a wireless access point

Hello,

See if you can follow my own Tutorial on adding an additional router to your existing one.

Please let us know how that works.

I bought a toshiba satellite m -s on April It has an intel pro wireless bg adapter - driver v I have it connected a netgear wgr v router it has a problem maintaining a constant speed I watched the network monitor on the notebook and it always shows a quot connection excellent quot however the speed is not constant - it will vary from - issue pro intel wireless speed connection 2200bg wireless mbsp to wireless connection speed issue - intel pro wireless 2200bg mbsp - but seldom does it maintain the mbsp on I sent the machine to toshiba - they replaced the network adapter - or so they said and wiped the hard drive and reinstalled the original software I rec d the machine back and find that the problem has not changed - it still will not maintain a steady speed so viewing files on other pcs on the lan takes forever and page loads on the net can also occupy too much time I have an older toshiba satellite with a netgear wireless wireless connection speed issue - intel pro wireless 2200bg wg t adapter I have watched the monitor on that one and it will show connection excellent and maintains a steady speed of mbsp these two machines can be sitting side by side or in separate rooms and still the old one will maintain it s connection and speed but the new will not maintain the speed I called toshiba up again and they want to say it s my router I explained to them that another toshiba on the same network does not faulter -- so how can it be the router they didn t want to but they are quot granting quot me service to send the machine back to them again I haven t done that yet as I thought I would see if there was some real help elsewhere -- like perhaps here just to be on the CYA side I updated the firmware on the netgear router - the problem remained also after reading several wireless issues on this board and learning how to do pings and such I did wireless connection speed issue - intel pro wireless 2200bg run the DrTCP and changed the mtu to dsl modem netopia caymen series router netgear v windows xp home - on all computers anyone have any idea why the new toshiba will not maintain a speed on the same router as the old toshiba that continues to work and maintain a speed I would prefer to resolve this issue without having to send it off to toshiba again as I m not convinced they actually checked the problem before swapping parts and reformatting nbsp

Hello TSG Forums I Network Adapter Not Working! Missing Icon; Wireless Wireless ve got quite the challenge for you guys Missing Wireless Network Icon; Wireless Adapter Not Working! I ve gone through two different tech support lines three computer savvy friends and every troubleshooting trick and tip I could scour off of the internet All efforts have been in vain thus far Missing Wireless Network Icon; Wireless Adapter Not Working! So as to not make this post too long I ll get to the point I recently bought a new wireless adapter to connect to the internet with Previously I was using an older adapter that my room mate was lending me a Motorola Wireless USB Adapter WU G to be exact At first when I installed the motorola it didn t work I can t remember what I did to make it work for the life of me but I eventually twisted my computer s arm enough that it gave in Now it s uninstalled from my computer along with I hope all the drivers and programs that were using it So I bought a new adapter Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO USB Network Adapter - F D read the instructions carefully and made sure that it was installed just as the manual says Install the software wait for the prompt etc etc Everything seemed to be going smoothly until I tried to configure my connections Where the wireless detects all the access points and you put in your WEP key etc The wireless adapter seemed to be doing nothing The device manager showed the adapter with no problems and no errors but the program was stubbornly pretending that my wireless adapter didn t exist After trying multiple USB ports uninstalling reinstalling with no progress I concluded to myself that the adapter must be defective The LED light came on now and then but it was slow and very seldom I assumed that it was only recognizing that it had power So after ensuring that the previous adapter was completely uninstalled I take it back to my retailer and trade it off for a new model of a similar price D-Link DWA USB n Adapter - DWA This one upon installing at least seemed more active The LED light would blink now and then as if it were pinging for a signal of some sort So I install it again making sure that I m following the instructions to the letter When the installation finishes and it goes directly into the connection configuration it gives me an error And I quote quot Wireless Adapter not found Please insert the adapter now quot Again windows recognizes the device no errors no visible problems Also when I open Network Connections there is only my LAN line listed I have no wireless network icon and I can t seem to get it to appear So after several hours of tech support and no progress I turn to my friends who are equally baffled The last hours have been mostly dedicated to scouring the internet for clues to the problem So far I ve gone through a whole bunch of dead ends and a list or two of troubleshooting ideas Nothing so far has helped Here are the things I ve tried so far Everything described on this list unless it pertained to dial up networking Uninstalling and reinstalling the driver and software several times Installing the driver without the software Installing with Wireless Zero Configuration stopped in services msc I m running a Sony VAIO with Windows XP Media Center Edition If you need to know anything else about my setup just ask Please assist if you can I m running out of options Elliot nbsp

A while back i purchased a Tenda wireless dongle and started to use it instead of a very long winded wireless to wired connection bridge between two computers Anyway the dongle was suggested by a housemate who uses the exact same model and make on our wireless hub in the house Everything was fine until a few weeks after purchase it started to have issue connecting particularly after wireless restart/removal freezes dongle USB explorer until Wireless restart I tore several clumps of hair out trawling the internet to find a cure to the issue A friend even lent me a unique dongle but it provided a temporary fix before following in the same footsteps I even USB Wireless dongle freezes wireless until explorer restart/removal tried both dongles identical in make and model across the two PC's on the network they belonged to On both occasions each dongle connected instantly and without issue on the other PC and took a long time and eventually failed on my PC USB Wireless dongle freezes wireless until explorer restart/removal Finally i give up and went as far as re-installing windows fresh and slowly installing everything again including the dongle Everything was fine approximately - months until tonight were its decided to tell me that it cant find the network im trying to connect My housemate however is currently connected to the network fine and the PC with the same dongle connects as always without a hitch I've tried restarting both the wireless hub the dongle the computer the drivers disabling and re enabling everything that can possibly be connected with internet Whats weird is it does however find my network and a few others occasionally when it does i click connect and it freezes the wireless frame and anything to do with the wireless settings in windows This is only unfrozen when i either restart the PC or the adapter is removed I did try the troubleshoot tool provided by windows however this either tells me everything is fine or normally because my network is not present it wont go any further until i try and connect When i choose to remove the adapter physically everything unfreezes and it continues for a bit as if everything is fine and then realises its been removed and disconnects Like for example when i first uninstalled everything and removed all my saved networks it obviously asked me for the security code but only once i removed the dongle which was helpful Not What confuses me more is it randomness it sometimes shows the networks sometimes it doesnt It just there now while writing this and attempting to fix it allowed me to enter the security code but once i hit enter it proceeded to hang I tried the troubleshooter which as this point just replied with it cannot identify the problem Couple this with the fact that between today and yesterday i have changed nothing about either the USB or the router and i keep my computer protected with AV and firewall and yes i have tried temporarily turning these off incase they are interfering with the device and also different USB slots I'm a techy kinda guy and i enjoy the puzzles of troubleshooting but this ones got to the point where im gonna end up with a large credit card bill as i completely change my computer and i cant afford that to be frank Facts Device is working correctly and present in device manager All combinations of devices and drivers have been used with no resolution Repaired and troubleshooted restarted devices connected with wireless computer Issue is not repeatable and erratic at best no definitive causality Edit USB Model is Tenda W u v although i don't feel its relevant but i will be asked P Windows professional x All recent updates SP GB ram i No overclocking NVIDA GeForce GTX W Power supply Kept well cool via a multitude of fans and filters Any other information required just say if you want i'll do an ipconfig and post also

A:USB Wireless dongle freezes wireless until explorer restart/removal

Literally just finished and it works... Like I've done nothing different just pulled it out once more for the 8/9 time in the past few hours and its suddenly started working asked for security key connected within 1min or so. I don't trust it however and if any possible causes can be identified here i'll be glad.. in case it should happen again >.>

Many thanks!

ASUS PCE-N13 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n PCI Express 150/300Mbps Transfer/Receive Rate 64-bit/128-bit WEP, TKIP, and AES WI-Fi alliance WPA, WPA2 - Newegg.com

I randomly pick the above. It has 2 antenna. Is this card gives a better signal than a motherboard that has an embedded Wifi module?

because the situation I was at today is, these folks has a toshiba all in 1, which comes with an embedded wifi module in that All in 1. The wireless router/Cable modem is at the basement, and some times they lost signal.

So I'm thinking of something like Linksys WRT1900AC that has 4 antenna, and perhaps source out a signal booster. But if that does not work, it would be time to get a real PC that c/w PCI wireless card.

Do you guys think there is a sizeable gain on signal strength on these PCI wireless card vs. embedded Wifi module on motherboard?

A:Does PCI wireless card has better signal than embedded wireless module inside PC

I would try power over Ethernet. But if you must use wifi the all in one probably has its antenna around the screen. I would look at range entenders. They are getting cheap where they just act as an access point and will allow you to extend their coverage

I just purchased a wireless router (Linksys) to set up as a wireless access point connected via an ethernet cable to another Linksys wireless router that is connected to my DSL modem. I know I need to connect LAN port to LAN port, but do I need a "straight through" or a "switched/crossover" cable? As I have done some reading, some directions say straight, others say switched, some don't say at all. I just want to be sure I don't have a cabling issue. Thanks in advance for any information.

A:Solved: Connecting Wireless access point and wireless router

Well, a crossover cable will certainly work. If either end of the routers have auto-MDX ports, a straight patch cable will work as well.
