Preferred Solution: Initialize Errors, Re-Boots Needed, Physical Memory high

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It has been over three days I want to make sure this hadn't become lost.

Thank you for your help.

Hi Everyone from Bleepingcomputer.com,

I am facing some issues with my laptop.

I always noticed my CPU, Memory, Physical Memory usage are running quite high.

Wonder is it normal for my computer?

I always feel the temperature is quite high and my fan keep running fast all the time even with just running some lite program. Sometimes my computer also turned to Blue Screen.

Please find the attachments to see my Task Manager.

i dont have much processes, even if i have to use photoshop and dreamweaver.... i cannot run both at same time. if memory usage remains high, laptop turn off itself without any error before and after shutdown(i mean on next startup)

A:Physical memory is too high

Hello Eaglehdr,

Windows is designed to make use of all your RAM by default. The old saying unused memory is wasted memory applies here.

I noticed that your page file is pretty small. Do you have it set to be managed by the system?

I'm a VERY paranoid person and want an opinion on whether or not this seems normal.

As you can see currently running Chrome, Spotify, ATI CCC, MSE.

Thanks youz :}

A:Physical Memory too high?

That is perfectly normal, a bit on the high side but not abnormally so. Windows 7 uses memory differently than previous versions.. allocating 1/3 to 1/2 the physical memory for running processes during idle and the rest available for graphics/superfetch

Hi,

I've got a bit of a problem that worries me a little. Last November I bought my laptop, an Asus N53S-S1766V. It has 6GB memory but my physical memory is really high for the amount of applications running. My firefox going up to 200MB from time to time, depending on what I am doing.

This doesn't seem too normal to me. Anyone knows what to do?

Thanks in advance,
Casp

Hi.

Here are the specs of my laptop's OS :

The problem is, basically I can't run more than two applications at once, the physical memory gets too high, I don't know if it's a virus or what, but I can't even watch a movie, or use skype, without the laptop getting hanged or stuck for 2-5 minutes , and even more at times.
Everything is so slow, the laptop makes noise, and get's extremely hot, and this is very irritating.

hi guys over the pasr 2 weeks i've been having a problem, my physical memory is running aroun 80-96% when im just sitting at the desktop with nothing open at all. my computer is running very slow and ive done 3 virus scans and found nothing that is causing this problem. I have a very nice gaming computer with:

8gigs Ram
Nvidia 780X
and an i-7

i have multiple processes running over 200k of ram which is very odd, my processes tab shows these:

msiexec.exe - 500,000k
taskhost.exe - 460,000k
taskhost.exe - 400,000k
cmd.exe - 390,000k
conhost.exe - 380,000k
ctfmon - 350,000k
presentationhost.exe - 320,000k

and sometimes when i look at my processes it will say i have iexplorer.exe and notepad.exe running but i havent opened them up and they will be running over 200,000k.

is this a virus? is it something i can fix? please help!

Last week I got an Intel message saying one of my Raid-0 hard drives had failed, however the message hasn't come up since.
I checked task manager this morning and it says I have 70%physical memory being used. It wasn't that high last week, so I was wondering if they were connected?

Thanks

A:High physical memory and low ram all of a sudden?!

hi,,,, if it just started to happen after installing new apps then reverse the process and uninstall them and see what you get,,,, do you have a stand alone gpu,,, if not then when your playing games using daemon tools then it could be using your ram for game play,,, whats the make and model of your pc.

I've noticed that over the past week or so my physical memory has climbed from about 30% to over 50% at times..

I was wondering if anyone knows how i can fix this. My computer always seems to be running about 50 processes, which is quite high. Any ideas?

A:High physical memory usage

Check in with the Resource Monitor to see what process is using the RAM -

Hi,

Recently, I saw that my computer used a lot of physical memory. Now, what could I possibly do to prevent my computer from using so much memory?

A:High Physical Memory Issues

Welcome to the forum.

When dealing with suspected memory problems the best place to start is a screenshot of Task Manager - Performance tab. This shows important information not found anywhere else.

Last night after I scanned my computer with mcafee I noticed my comp was acting slow and sluggish, I opened task manager and found that my physical memory was high and i only had 30 some processes running. Still having the same problem after I clean rebooted, disk defragged and checked for updates but sadly nothing has worked. Here's a SS of my task manager, hopefully someone can help me out

A:High Physical Memory Usage

I fail to see a high RAM usage in your snip. Look into Resource Monitor > Memory tab. The colored bar will tell you the real story. The sluggishness could have other reasons.

This few days my computer have been showing around 50% physical memory on the windows task manager. This happen even if my computer just boot up and is doing nothing.

A:High Physical Memory Usage

Hi Covalence,

Please open up your task manager (CTRL + ALT + DEL > Task manager) and go into the Processes-tab. Press the "Mem-usage" column so that all the highest numbers are at the top. Take a screenshot and attach it to your next post (upload it into the post, no external sites).

Ok, so heres my problem. Maybe 3 or 4 days ago my physical memory started running at around 30%-40% (around 1.5gb), and this is at idle and starts happening right at start-up. Normally in past it runs at around 10% (600mb or so). I have noticed it mainly when plaing SW: Force Unleashed and Dawn of War 2. Gameplay runs fine for maybe 3 or 4 seconds then freezes for 10 seconds then is fine again for 3 or 4 seconds and so on. I have tried disabling services, clean boots, virus scans, searched every forum maybe in existance and have found no soloution. I have 4gd DDR3 Ram (2x2gb sticks) and a 3.2ghz Quad Core AMD processor. Also i have noticed that my CPU usage is around 1 or 2% which is rather small isnt it?

In my event log, i have been getting multiple errors relating to a bad block in my hard disk. This error repeats about every minute or so. My computer was only put together 3 months and ago and this is rather frustrating me. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Ive recently bought a HP probook 4530s.
Its has Windows 7 Home Premium.
Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2310 CPU @ 2.10GHz
Installed Memory (RAM): 4.00 GB
System type: 64-bit Operating System.

My Laptop is running slow even when there are no applications running. I am not a pro in computers so I asked one of my friend and he said that the physical memory usage is very high and there are many processes (around 105) running. So I am a little worried about this thing. Is everything alright with my laptop? if not what necessary steps I will have to take for the same.
Please Guide me through the whole thing.
Thanking in Advance

I have a bit of a problem.. It's causing my laptop to run extremely slow..
I've narrowed it down to svchost.exe ... in my task manager there are like 7 or 8 of them. one or two of them are using up 40-50mb of physical memory... What do I do?
My CPU usuage stays pretty low but my phsyical memory usuage stays around 70%-90% at all times.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

Hello,

Recently I have been having issues with my computer locking up after exiting a full screen game and trying to open any other full screen game. I am fairly confident that it's a video card issue, but through looking through my task manager, I've found that my physical memory usage is at 65% of 4GB (2.65GB) when I'm not currently running any major applications (Currently just internet explorer). I don't know if this is too vague of a problem, but any insights would be wlecome.

Hello boki and welcome to Seven Forums.

Windows 7 has a built in tool that can help figure out how your RAM is being used. It's call Resource Monitor. If you could post a screenshot of the Memory tab it will give a better idea of how RAM is being allocated during game play.

Resource Monitor

Windows 7 is not like previous operating systems. It has a different way of using RAM. It tries to use as much RAM as you have available because "unused RAM is wasted RAM."

You could also try running the Disk Cleanup utility, especially deleting unnecessary system files (step 5.)

Now google Chrome won't open and my physical memory usage is still pretty high, 59%. Internet explorer works but I get a script error popup when I hit the delete key or go to any webpage.

And in task manager I keep seeing many instances of weird processes like rundll or conhost.exe or "flashutil64_16_0_0_235_activex.exe". I tried closing them but they keep reopening. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I'm pretty sure I have some kind of malware.

Title says it all, opened up task manager today and saw that my phyiscal memory usage is at 84%, with the usual processes running only. I checked for processes by all users and nothing unusual showed up. There was an svchost taking up some memory, making me think it was something malicious but when I ended the process the memory issues did not resolve while it was down.

I am not very savvy with computers and this is stumping me, actual performance doesnt seem too affected and cpu usage never goes above 13%.

Chrome is a massive resource hog and it appears you have some tabs open while making those screenshots.

Do a restart of the PC, then retake those screenshots.

I saw some videos aobut comparing vista and win 7 and both had similar performance. I regretting that I didn't upgraded to win 7 when I had a chance tho..
but by seeing that visata can run pretty similar to win 7 I'm relieved a little but..
in the video that I saw.. he had about 27% of physical memory running on vista and mine is running 70% right now.. I was like "Oh, wow.."
So... how can I make my computer use less physical memory to about down to 20% ~30%?
If I bring down my computers physical memory percentage down will it help on gaming and other operations get better?

and some other questions:
1. I still want to upgrade my computer, if I can, to win 7, so do I need to get win 7 64bit version because I have 64bit OS right now?

2. Say if I buy win 7 and make a back up CD for win 7, can I use it on other computers? or no?

I would appreciate anyone's help

You can go with 32 bit, but must do a clean install with format. You can get a Windows 7 upgrade DVD to to do this, It is cheaper than full retail

A:High Physical Memory without much application running

I would check and see how many programs are opening on your initial start up, because they may be running in the back ground . Go to the start menu and type in 'msconfig' and look at the programs that are listed under the start up programs, and disable any programs you do not need.

your attachment tells nothing. It would have been better to see what processes were running. Have you ran your anti-virus and anti-trojan programs?
have you ran mike lin's startup editor?

I am using Windows 7, with 4GB ram. My physical memory usage goes high upto 3.5Gig even when i use very less applications.

I have monitored using both Performance Monitor (Perfmon.exe) and Process Explorer.
All applications shows the same including my Task Manager/Wdws Gadgets.

My system is normal, but curious to know the reason.

Attached is for reference

Thanks in advance

A:Physical Memory/CPU Usage showing high

You are doing anything but running less applications. I can see a dozen different applications that can the cause or contributing factor. Java for instance, does it need to be running? All that stuff under "Toaster.exe" do they need to be running?

A:High physical memory usage on new HP notebook

One thing you could do is determine if you have a problem or not. When all the physical memory is used and swapping is needed you suffer a performance hit. When some physical memory is just gathering cobwebs you have no (immediate) problem. Windows 7 is pretty good at memory management. It will sometimes keep stuff in memory just because the space is available and maybe you will gain performance by not having to load whatever it is.

Another thing is to use Task Manager to see if there are any memory hogs.

Hi,

about two weeks ago I saw that my computer used a lot of memory (3/4GB). It hasn't been changing a lot in the past two weeks. Now, what could I possibly do to prevent my computer from using so much memory? The only programs I have opened are Firefox, Nettalk (IRC Client), Thunderbird, occasionally uTorrent and Dropbox. Except for Firefox, I don't see anything using too much memory.

Here are a couple of screens of the Task Manager and Resource Monitor:

A:Extremely high physical memory usage

You have 3 gigs installed, and one is free. Of the remaining 2 firefox is using 627Mb, Thunderbird 138Mb, both are higher than I have ever seen. So that leaves you one left for the rest of the processes.

I would imagine from FF usage that you have quite a few addons? Do you and what are they?

Imgur Here is a album just demonstrating 4 situations that this has occured, notably when this occurs, the only 'demanding' programs are skype, chrome and steam. Surely not enough to warrant this much usage.

My system specs are on my profile, most of these programs occured after installing a cooler, but don't seem to be a ram related problem, as I replaced them already..
I have already tried performance monitor, clearing up start up items, memory diagnostics.

Please help me ! Much appreciated.

A:Currently having irregular, high RAM/Physical memory + CPU usage

I'm not sure that I'll be able to help you find the offending app(s), but maybe I can help you to post those images in a way that more members will see them. Some members are not comfortable visiting image hosting websites. The steps in this tutorial should let you post the images as attachments to your post: Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums

Step 10 thru 12 show how to place the image inline so that you can have text above and/or below the image. Otherwise, the images will appear at the end of the text in your posts.

You might want to post screenshots of Resource Monitor - the Memory tab and the CPU tab.
If you get bored, I would be interested in the results of a WDO scan.

Hello .. guys need help ..not a pro in computer
got a problem of my memory consume .. too high without using any program updater anything else ..when i starup . its almost use
800 mb ..

My Processor Is AmD 64x2Dual Core processor 5000+2.60Ghz
Ram 1 gig
System type 32 bit
Video Card Inno3d Geforcegt 220 1gb sddr3

A:High Consume of Physical Memory without using Programs

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

800MB is not too much RAM for W7 to be using... especially with that video card. It takes some system RAM to make use of the RAM on the video card. The more RAM on the video card, the more system RAM needed to make use of it. I don't understand why that is, that is just what I've seen and read.

You can either add more system RAM (if possible) or spend time researching which apps you can safely prevent from starting. What anti-virus tool are you using?

Hi, my computer was running slow (videos, websites, windows explorer) so I checked the task manager and the CPU usage and physical memory is pretty high. Also there are processes like presentationhost.exe which I have never seen before. Also a bunch of conhost.exe and others so I think I have a problem. Here's a pic of my processes.

The next pic is just scrolled down on the task manager and a few minutes later.

I ran Malwarbytes but it didn't find anything.
I would really appreciate any help I could get. Thanks.

For the past month or so my computer has been using a ton of physical memory. It usually hovers around 60% and slows things down quite a bit.

A:Very high physical memory usage all the time

Looks like Firefox is using a ton of resources.

Try doing some of the things listed in this tutorial and see if you can get it down:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...uch-memory-ram

Also, are you using Spotify/Skype all the time? Figuring out what is up with Firefox and stopping Skype/Spotify if you don't need it would help.

You could also simply get more ram. Its not that expensive and its one of the best things you can do to speed up your PC, especially with your specific problem.

After removing some viruses and reinstalling windows, my computer has had jumping cpu usage from 2-30 percent, and high physical memory use under performance tab in task manager.

I never had this problem before, and my processes in task manager don't take up a lot of memory, could this be from some kind of virus or a hardware problem... wasn't sure where to post.

How did you reinstall Windows? You might have gotten infected already- could you provide some more details about your system and what you did? I'm not as expert as some folks on here but I'm sure somebody will help you

I've posted a thread regarding this a month ago here. I had scanned my PC with Malware bytes and turns out I had 4 malwares. Rebooted it and figured it was the end of it. The thing is this happens occasionally when I'm normally browsing Chrome, the memory usage goes up to 3,89GB out of 4GB out of nowhere. I go to the task manager/resource monitor and I can't find anything relevant I wouldn't normally have. Sure I have about 70 tasks but they're all small and shouldn't be causing trouble. Today it happened while I was installing Sniper Elite v2 - lengthy installation, it was using my whole RAM understandably, yet after it was finished I'm still left with about 80% of memory usage? Please help.

I know - I shouldn't have run combofix because I'm not a Professional. I've heard it can cause problems and now I am seeing first hand.

I have a Dell PC running Vista SP1.

I tried to do a system restore but it didn't correct the problem with the Physical Memory usage. Hardly anything is running and it is steady at 70-80%.

Is there anything I can do besides back up data and and do a clean install of the OS?

Sorry if this isn't in the right forum.

I would really appreciate any input on this, thank you in advance,

Adam

(Sony Vaio) has been extremely slow lately, which I am assuming because the physical memory is constantly high (up to 95% at times) even when I am not doing anything. Below are some screenshots for information. I have tried killing some processes but cannot find one process that is a major problem. 52 Processes are currently running which doesnt seem so excessive. Is it normal to have so much memory reserved for hardware? If there is anymore information I need to post please let me know, I appreciate any help I can get.

So yesterday when I was using my computer (running Windows 7) my physical memory suddenly got very high all the time, even when no programs are running. I have 4 GB of RAM and even when it's on desktop without any programs in the background it stays on about 1,5 GB usage. It's VERY slow when I run Photoshop CS6, goes up to about 3,8 GB usage. As as I said this problem occured yesterday. Never happened before. I tried searching for a few similar solutions here on Bleeping Computer using programs such as ComboFix, Rkill then scanning afterwards etc. but none of them works. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated really! :> Thanks in advance!!

Hello Ucwheels. I can help you if you will download, install and run Process Hacker. http://processhacker.sourceforge.net/

Run as adminstator and lets see what process(s) are eating you ram from here. From there we can dig deeper and see what the underlying problem might be if it's OS related. From your screenshots I can't get a clear picture.

Also press Windows key + R type mdsched.exe and hit ok then restart and run the test. Let's check if your ram has become faulty. I will be back on tomorrow unless someone else can help you before then.

After a clean install, when I first turn on my computer my physical memory is running at 50%+ and I always have 80+ processes. When I play games, such as World of Warcraft, physical memory goes to 80% or more. I've had this laptop for years, and this problem has only started recently. See attached photos, and please let me know if I need to add anything. Appreciate the help

Note: When I have no programs running and try to restart or shut down the computer, it prompts me to wait for programs to close, etc. Malwarebytes shows no malware.

A:Physical Memory running absurdly high. How can I fix or clean up?

Startup tab: how many items checked? I've got 9. Windows will run fine with none checked.

Hi,

Need a bit of help. I've run all the standard spyware removal tools, virus scans, etc... something is keeping my processes running at 100+, and my physical memory is up around 85%. Programs aren't opening, or they take forever to open, computer crashes every now and again, or freezes... I did have a virus a few weeks ago that did some damage. Also I'm having issues with admin control on files...

I'm hoping this might all be related....

Help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ryan.

A:Thought I Removed Virus, Though Physical Memory Still High

Determining whether a file is malware or a legitimate process usually depends on the location (path) it is running from. One of the ways that malware tries to hide is to give itself the same name as a critical system file like svchost.exe. However, it then places itself in a different location (folder) than where the legitimate file resides and runs from there. Another techinique is for the process to alter the registry and add itself as a Startup program or service so that it can run automatically each time the computer is booted. Keep in mind that a legitmate file can also be infected by some types of malware such as Virut which is a dangerous polymorphic file infector. A file's properties may give a clue to identifying it. Right-click on the file, choose Properties and examine the General and Version tabs.Tools to investigate running processes and gather additional information to identify them and resolve problems:AnVir TaskManager FreeProcess ExplorerSystem ExplorerProcessHacker - (requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or above to use)AutorunssvchostViewerThese tools will provide information about each process, CPU usage, file description and its path location.Anytime you come across a suspicious file or one that you do not recognize, search the name using Google <- click here for an example.Or search the following databases:BC's Startup Programs DatabaseSystemLookup StartupList IndexProcessLibrary.comFile Research CenterIf you cannot find any information, the file has a legitimate name but is not located where it is supposed to be, or you want a second opinion, submit it to Jotti's virusscan or VirusTotal. In the "File to upload & scan" box, browse to the location of the suspicious file and submit (upload) it for scanning/analysis.-- Post back with the results of the file analysis.

Hi all, i,m new here hoping you can help me.

My laptop (HP G62 running windows 7) takes a long time to boot and is very slow and almost impossible to use. The physical memory usage is very high all the time at around 90%.

The computer works fine in safe mode.

I notice a high memory usage of svchost.exe which can be up to 300 000k...........could this be the problem?

7 days ago it was infected by a Trojan Horse named Generic31.apje. I followed the path named and deleted the file from c:\ProgramData\browsermanager....................after doing this I completed a scan and the results where that the machine was clean. Could this still be an issue?

I was thinking about buying a laptop from my friend and took it home to check it out She has always had problems with it more from lack of knowledge than Hardware issues but i think she may gotten it too BSOD errors memory dumps, Physical CRC & hot Here s whats going on with it Ran recovery on it so its been wiped clean took off all the preloaded stuff like AOL etc but nothing important Ran fine for awhile then i get the dreaded Blue screen of Death about a physical memory dump I had installed daemon tools and pg so i uninstalled them both and that quot seemed quot to clear up the problem Then the touchpad mouse froze up several times then the blue screen o death again So i reformat again and don t take anything off the cpu start downloading a few things and then Physical memory dumps, BSOD & CRC errors i get a quot CRC error quot in iso files i m trying to extract I ve extracted some smaller rar files fine but on large iso s i got CRC errors I decide to switch back over to my main pc and try the same iso s on my main cpu they both extract fine I also leave the laptop running after about an hour i get The blue screen of death again but this time the message has changed The new message is as follows STOP C Registry File Failure The registry cannot load the hive file systemroot system config software or its log or alternate Its is corrupt absent or not writable Beginning dump of physical memory memory dump complete There BSOD s i was getting the first go around were the kind with STOP x E repeated over with diff numbers and this one was totally different So far i ve had touchpad issues resolved CRC errors unresolved and these BSOD s no idea The cpu is a bit older it s a Toshiba Satellite A -S the processor is Intel Celeron M GHz with megs of ram I know it could use a memory boost but she never had the BSOD problem I am mainly wondering if she fried it somewhat as she had a habit of sitting in bed with the laptop on the comforter where it got a bit hot Is there anyway to tell for sure if a component has been damaged I was thinking maybe HD or processor but have no idea at all I ve gotten alot of good advice here so i thought i d give it a shot I was getting a decent deal on it but if its damaged i need to deduct that if i buy it and if i don t take it i ll probably help her fix it Any help would be appreciated as this thing has driven me crazy for days now thanks in advance nbsp

Hi all. I'm a first-time poster today. I was searching through the forums to see if my question was already answered but I didn't find an exact match and hoping someone might have some ideas.

Specifically, I get an error message when I plug my Ipod into my laptop. I'm using a FireWire Notebook adapter and my OS is Windows XP running SP2.

I didn't always have this problem but it's been recurring for the last 6 months. Before that I had this problem only using USB which is why I switched to FireWire. That only worked for a few months.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I have reinstalled Itunes a number of times. I also so full system scans on my computer using Norton weekly. I've even updated my bios drivers and still can't get it to work.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks so much.

A:No sound, lots of Firefox errors, dumping physical memory?!?

Welcome back to TSF

The best thing to do is to format the drive and reinstall. Pull off your SIL information either on a thumb drive or burn to cd then reinstall. She has way too many issues to just start trying to repair each one individually.

Hi everyone,
I am new here and just registered as I need urgent help with my laptop. I wanted to watch a wmv file this morning, and WMP downloaded a codec file, upon installing which I instantly got the blue screen of death. I restarted my windows, a few seconds after its start-up, the ruddy screen appeared again. I ran it in safe mode; the very same thing happened. I can not run windows at all to uninstall the codec and fix the problem. I have tones of work documents on my C drive, so I cannot re-install windows. And I need to access them as they are work documents, and I need them tomorrow for a meeting. what can I do? Is the only way left to copy those files through DOS and reinstall my Windows?

I recently upgraded my Windows 7 laptop from 4GB of physical memory to 8 GB. The Bios immediately recognized the added memory but it appears the Task Manager physical memory has not changed and only recognizes ~3.5 GB of available memory. Is there a way
to have Task Manager recognize the added memory? Is the fact that the Task Manager does not recognize the added memory mean other functions are not recognizing the added memory?

Hey guys This is my first post as i can 12mb, Physical total Avaiable memory memory Physical = 1gb = usually find my answers elsewhere but this time ive had no luck I am running windows xp sp professional -bit and have recently upgraded my RAM from a mb MB to a MB MB Avaiable Physical memory = 12mb, Physical memory total = 1gb set up When i did this upgrade i got an enjoyable multi-tasking boost so i again upgraded to a GB GB set up Again another good performance boost But over the last three days the pc has become slower and slower today when i checked 'system information' i found that windows was recognising the GB physical memory as it Avaiable Physical memory = 12mb, Physical memory total = 1gb had when i first installed it but instead Avaiable Physical memory = 12mb, Physical memory total = 1gb of having between MB- MB of 'available physical memory' after a boot up i was sitting on MB of available physical memory I tried reinstalling the two GB RAM sticks changing their order then returned to the MB MB set up but had the same problem except i now have only MB of available physical memory Screenshots taken in system information are during this time I cannot find anyway to fix this and my computer has slowed to a virtually unusable state Any suggestions would be fantastic Thanks in advance Ethire IMG http s wfdds uyz Desktop Stats jpg IMG

It's been a while since I had to troubleshoot an XP system, but I'll give it a shot. it sounds like you have a memory leak, which means a program that uses more and more memory. What process in Task Manager is using up the memory?

I have a Toshiba Satellite  running windows 7. I got the computer from my father and had to remove a lot of malware and games. I wish i could do a factory reset but i do not have any of the factory disks. It seems like there are a lot of processes running and the physical memory is almost always at 100%. Any help would greatly be appreciated . Thanks in advance.

A:Toshiba laptop running super slow. physical memory running high

You can first try this:
http://www.howtogeek.com/74523/how-to-disable-startup-programs-in-windows/

Then you can try removing all the junk files on it using CCleaner or BleachBit or something similar. If that doesn't help, I would recommend dual booting this PC with Ubuntu 14.04. I actually published a tutorial on doing that here:
http://69.107.93.24/Blog/52015/

You could then use that as your primary OS.

Ok I am literally KILLING myself over this I installed Windows Bit over XP around a month ago and it was so good that I recommended it to my brother who was previously on XP too We got him a copy of the bit version as he has only gb of memory and he installed it on his machine However he constantly had high CPU and RAM usage Even though no programs were obviously taking it all up in his task manager and it was making his computer sluggish and slow Everything was freezing and hanging and it was a nightmare I spent a day looking all over the net to find out the problem but could not fix it at all no matter what the hell I tried So he reverted back to Windows XP A nice waste of money on Windows His Windows XP now runs smoothly and is all as it was Suddenly today after my brother connected to my Windows homegroup or workgroup rather through his Windows XP machine my computer got the EXACT same problem as he had ages ago I have been browsing Google all day downloading s t changing things in my computer trying EVERY possible fix that people have CPU usage!!! 7 usage memory random and high physical Windows suggested and Windows 7 random CPU usage and high physical memory usage!!! that sound legit Nothing works So now all of a Windows 7 random CPU usage and high physical memory usage!!! sudden my computer is sluggish games are jumpy and jittery video rendering times are slooooooow Here is Windows 7 random CPU usage and high physical memory usage!!! a picture of my resource monitor You can see the physical memory usage being at I've ordered the memory usage of each service in highest to lowest I just CANT see where the problem is I've tried leaving my homegroup to see if that changes anything but it just says quot Windows couldn't remove you from your homegroup quot So I searched online tried all possible fixes with no avail I've scanned my computer for malware and viruses and nothing shows If you can help me you are by sure a god and I may have you kiss you repeatedly I have never been so frustrated as I do alot of memory dependant work on my computer and this is just pure horrible Here are some extra images that may help

A:Windows 7 random CPU usage and high physical memory usage!!!

I can tell you what is probably causing your problems. AVG.
When you are looking at memory, do not sort by Working set, sort by Hard faults.
Hard faults is what causes things to slow down. Plus you have plenty of memory not to worry about usage.

Greetings I formatted my computer and after installing windows again my physical memory in task manager is very high and cpu keeps jumping up and down I looked at the processes tab but noticed absolutely nothing taking abnormal memory private working set Then moved on to performance tab gt resource monitor and found svchost I think it was netsvcs in parenthesis Jumping Windows High Cpu Physical Usage Memory Usage, 7 hogging all the memory After ending the process I still have had high memory usage and surprisingly do not see a process anywhere in task manager with high numbers next to it so I have no idea what's happening I have noticed that my windows folder keeps increasing in size currently about gigs and a helper told me that it's normal because Windows 7 Jumping Cpu Usage, High Physical Memory Usage the updates in windows have a different compression method than windows and after however when I had previously installed windows fully updated my folder size was normal so I assume it can be done I originally posted in the Virus Trojan Spyware and Malware Removal Logs section however I did not find malware on my computer so unless it's very new malware I am certain windows is causing this problem For antivirus I am currently using a free trial of Norton Advice P S This is probably better for the hardware section but can constant high physical memory and cpu usage ruin my hardware I am avoiding using things that take up high cpu and memory right now and it's currently about gigs phy memory cpu jumping usually - up to

Hello and To BC!

Look under the process tab in the task manager and find out what process is using the most resources. Does this same situation happen when google chrome is closed?

My total physical memory (64.00MB) is less than my available physical memory (126.73MB).

That's what System Information is telling me. What gives? "Total" should be more than "available."

I've an old Dell running WinXP which I only use for wordprocessing and email.

Thanks for your help.

Peter

A:Total physical memory LESS THAN available physical memory?

Total physical memory is the amount of RAM you have. (64 mb)

Windows xp automatically uses hard drive memory as if it is RAM if necessary. This is called virtual memory.

Sooo...you have 64 mb of ram, and an additional 64 mb of "virtual" ram from your hard drive.
There is nothing wrong...this is simply how windows xp works.
