Slow system, Windows Installer window constant popup

Q: Slow system, Windows Installer window constant popup

My wife's system, inherited from her former job, is/was running extremely slow...slow to load, slow to download web pages. Additionally, an alert window "Windows Installer" is popping up everytime a new window opens (new IE window, etc). She had been using the system's programs at work, but doesn't need them any more: Dame Ware Mini Remote Control Server, OfficeScan, Hotsync, Gotomypc.

System Info: Dell Optiplex GX270, Pent. 4 CPU 2.8 GHz, 1GB/RAM, Windows XP (recently installed SP3)

Any and all assistance would be appreciated.

Steve

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I own a Sony VAIO VGN-FS742/W with XP Home SP2 running on it. For a week now, I've been trying to get the System Configuration Utility popup window to stop appearing everytime I bootup my machine. I've even gone as far as disable all of whats in STARTUP tab. Which didn't resolve a thing. Everytime I click on radio buttom to not showup but it still does. Is there any kind of Registry Hack that can be done to stop this?

Hi my name is Michelle and I am having a few problems with my computer, particualarly when I launch AIM and try to IM someone. When I double-click a buddy and the chat box comes up a Windows Installer pops up and the program freezes. And sometimes the same thing "Windows Installer" pops up when I used Internet Explorer.

Create a directory on your hardrive to save HijackThis.exe. A directory like c:\hijackthis. If you do not do this, you will not be able to use the backup/restore features.Download HijackThis from:HijackThis Download SiteSave this file into the directory you made previously and then run the program named hijackthis.exe. When the program opens click on the Config button, then click on the Misc Tools button, and click on the Check for update online button. When it completes checking/applying updates press the back button. Now click on the Scan button and when it is finished click on the Save Log button. A Notepad window will open with the contents of this log. Click on Edit then click on Select all. Then click on Edit and then Click on Copy.Create a reply to this post here and right click in message area and select paste to paste the log into the post.Someone will reply to you after reading this post. DO NOT fix any entries unless you understand what you are doing. To see a tutorial with screenshots on using HijackThis you can click on the link below:How to use HijackThis to remove Browser Hijackers, Malware, & Spyware

A:Windows Installer "Unload" Popup

Hi,

I've recently had some pc problems with malware and at one point, I uninstalled some programs that I didn't think I needed. Suddenly, I've been getting a message upon booting up that says "Unload" and shows an installer window...when I X it out, it just keeps coming back (sometimes it says Windows Installer instead of Unload.) The only way to get rid of it is by doing "End Task." Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi .

If the popup issue is on the same system as your yet-to-be-posted malware issue...I suggest that you resolve the malware issue before moving on to whatever issues the system then displays.

A:Can't Get Rid Of Windows Installer Popup Plus Panostandalone

Hello Fonce and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. The PanoStandAlone software is part of HP Photosmart printers. The installation message will continue to appear until the software is installed. The next time the computer is booted up and the message appears put the HP CD in and let the installation finish.

Cheers.

A:Strange Windows Installer popup...please help.

If you haven't already, download, install, update immediately, then run AdawareSE. Make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results.

Then download, install, update immediately Spybot S&D.

Have each fix whatever problems they may find.

Next, run an online virus scan at TrendMicro or RAV Antivirus.
Please select the autoclean option when using Trend Micro.

Then get HijackThis . This program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Run the scan, save the log, but do not fix anything yet. Many files it finds are harmless, and required for your system to operate.

Post your log in a new thread in the HijackThis Log Help forum. This our dedicated spyware/virus forum. One of the expert analysts there will look over your log and assist you. Please include a brief description of the problem you are having and what you have done to fix it so far.

A:Windows Installer Popup "Unload"

Additional information supplied by jimthepisces, in his cleared HJT log post, that I thought might be useful:I rebooted my pc and wrote everything I could. Here's all the text:It says Unload at the top of the installer window. Inside the window it says "gathering required information" and after a few moments it says "The feature you are trying to use in on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the 'Unload' disk and click OK."At the bottom of this window it says "Use source: 1" which is the only available option or "Browse"If I click OK, then it says "The path '1' cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location andtry again, or try to find the installation package 'unload.msi' in a folder from which you can install the product Unload."Finally, if I X the window, it says "error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Unload. The Windows installer cannot continue."Then it starts all over again until I do "End Task" on it.

A:Constant WINDOWS UPDATE popup

Hi,
Windows Updates are typically released on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.
Other "critical" updates are released asap.
Some updates require you to download one file, restart then download another, but you should not receive an invitation to update every day or even every week. Unless an update was unsuccessful.

As you obviously know how to check a successful update, I believe you would be wise to post a request for assistance in our Security Section.
Here is a link which hopefully will help you.....

Hello all, I am having problems with a windows installer pop up that is on super viagra....it just keeps popping up. I will attach a PDF file with the contents of the window. It does not ask me for anything just jumps up with all the parameter options for the msiexec command with a "OK" button on the bottom. It does interrupt the installation of my new printer software and screws it up as well. Other times it just pops up when I reboot or load some programs. Any help?

A:Solved: Windows Installer Popup Sucks

Welcome to TSG....

To download HJTsetup.exe from SpyKiller To Download HijackThis go to the following at the File Repository
Click on the button for Download to the right of HijackThis Self Installer:

http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTsetup.exe

Save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\HijackThis.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialog boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialog.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialog box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
At the top of the Notepad HJT log screen, hit Edit then Select All then click Edit and then click Copy doing that copies the text to the clipboard, you won't see it yet....
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply. DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
A security expert with a gold shield to the right of their name should take a look at your log - please be patient.

When my friend goes to install any software, he generally sees a message saying it is starting the Windows Installer, then a popup appears (attached) from Windows Installer that offers on option other than OK. Clicking OK just makes the popup go away, the install does not continue. I tried the install as administrator, did not help. I tried the compatibility troubleshooter, but it errors out without giving any info.

I've tried running the Microsoft tool that they offer for repairing Windows Installer, it finds nothing. I've also tried unregistering and registering msiexec.exe, did not help. Also ran regsvr32.exe /s %windir%\system32\msi.dll

Any ideas what I might try to fix this?

Thanks

A:Cannot install any software - Windows installer popup

Version 5, is that right?

I say it's time for an In-Place Install.

Also, check for Sirefef, it interferes with EXEs. It specifically disables EXEs so you cant install any AV programs so it may be interfering with the installer.

Do the programs that are there run? You can do a quick test for Sirefef- Rename your Windows Defender folder to Windows Defender Old. then try the installer again.

If that dont work, then dig out your Install disk, you gotta do an In-Place Install. But try an SFC /Scannow a few times, and then a DISM to rebuild the windows image, sorry, cant remember the command line - Its in the tutorials, I'll find it.

Here it is:

The Security Center Forum refered me to the XP Forum after clearing a infection.

During the infection and/or clearing process, I now receive 3-4 Windows Installer windows with virtualy every program I invoke.
These Windows Installer windows are up for only for a few seconds. No progam name inside the box just Windows Installer on blue title bar and inside it says "Installing..."

Happens with virtually every program start but most notable with IE7 and Outlook. Never noticed it poping up with Outlook Express.

All Microsoft updates installed.
All security sotwae up to date.

A:[SOLVED] Constant Windows Installer windows popping up

I've seen this problem in other programs like PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office suite components. The last time it got really bad, I had to uninstall the programs that were invoking the Installer and reinstall them, so that all the .dll files and .ini files were in the right place again.
I'm sure someone else has a better suggestion...

You can turn yours off as well, just make sure what you are downloading and running is safe.

Hello inkslinger,

Sounds like you may have bad installation media. If you like you could download an official ISO file at the link below, and be able to create a installation DVD or USB from the ISO.

Hope this helps,

A:Windows Installer Window Keeps Popping Up

Hi grandmagail

Do you have Microsoft Office installed?

If so, insert the Office disk and direct the Windows Installer to the disk, for the source.
If it is not the source, you should see a message to that effect.

Let us know what happens.

The stupid thing is back and can't get rid of it by closing or ending task. It just won't let me. The only way for me to get rid of it is to turn off certain things on the start up. But I don't know why they are causing the problem.

The start up things I disabled are:

hp digital imaging all in one files
HpqSRmon application
hp quick play

I haven't pinpointed which particular file (s) are causing the problem yet. but did manage to narrow it down alittle.

What do I do? I am not familiar with this computer.

How do I stop that window from opening each time I start Vista ? I am assuming its something left over in registry perhaps, but haven't a clue how to find it and remove it.

Hi jgb99 -I have just been through a severe similar case, that also included Microsoft Security Essentials Antivirus. The following steps listed by a M/soft helper fixed my problem and then 4 updates also appeared also. This issue can occur due to one of the following reasons:1. Incorrect System Date and Time settings.2. Incorrect Browser Settings.3. Corruption of Windows Update Components4. Corruption of browser settings or older updatesTo fix MSE installation and General update issues due to the above mentioned causes follow the steps below. Please note down any error messages or notable changes you find as you try the steps. :NOTE:- Before we start with the troubleshooting steps, I would like to inform you that I have added Result for each step. Please make sure that you fill up the results for the respective troubleshooting steps so that we can isolate the issue based on the results. Your co-operation is highly appreciated.Firstly please perform this general step:General step: Remove the other (secondary) security software (running multiple security software simultaneously will decrease the performance of the computer and the programs may conflict with each other)Please open the link http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/protect_start/list-of-anti-malware-program-cleanupuninstall/407bf6da-c05d-4546-8788-0aa4c25a1f91 and remove the other security software using appropriate link and restart the computer.Step 1: Changing System Date and Time Settingsa. Click Start-> run, type Timedate.cpl, and then press Enterb. You will get the Time and Date settings window.c. Please change your system's Date and Time if the system's Date and Time settings on your computer are incorrect.d. Try to update any Definitions. If this does not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.Result: Step 2: Synchronize the time with an internet time servera. Follow the sub-steps a and b in step 1b. In the internet Time tab check the option Automatically synchronize with an internet time serverc. In the option for Server enter time.windows.com and update now and Apply and OK.Result: If this does not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.Step 3: Reset Windows update componentsRun the fixit from the link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 and restart the computer.Result: If this does not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.Step 4: Perform IE OptimizationWhen you perform IE optimization, all temporary internet files, add-ons and customizations are deleted, and you basically start with a fresh version of Internet Explorer. Please copy and paste the link mentioned below in the address bar of the Internet explorer page and hit enter.http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9646978If you are unable to open the link, then please copy and paste the address in address bar. When it prompts please click on Run and follow the on screen instructions.Result: Now let us know if this has in any way solved any of the problems --Thank You -

I use Sony Vaio.. the problem is that a Vaio Analysis manager / Windows Installer window keeps popping up and it suddenly exit without me even knowing what it is doing or installing.

A:Vaio Analysis manager / Windows Installer window keeps popping up

Hello zolboo and a warm welcome to the Forum
I found this on the Sony website. If you follow the instructions it should solve your problem

Quote:
This is the Vaio Personalisation Manager which keeps track of your favorite music, programs etc. As far as I can work out it is designed to make personalised recommendations of music or other things you may be interested in when using Vaio Media Gallery. Rather like Amazon's Personal Recommendations.
If you don't want this service then just disable it. Go to VAIO Analysis Manager and you will find an option something like ' Preference Learning' - just uncheck it and reboot.

So I don't know what I did, but now when I run a .msi file or a setup.exe file, the window I get is either way bigger than my screen or the text is, like, 2pt. Any suggestions?
pictures:
either HUGE

or really small...

A:Windows Installer Window is HUGE/text is super small

Run a full scan with Malwarebytes

Then run SFC -SCANNOW Command

Do you remember when this started? If so try to System Restore to a point before the problem began. The programs which were installed since then might be causing the problem.

I would also want a Clean Boot and to scan logs and utilize System Resources given in these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums

A:Hard Disk Light constant--extremely slow system response

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Button, select Immediate Notification, and click on Proceed. This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster. NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of hartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer. NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions.DeFogger: Please download DeFogger to your desktop.

Double click DeFogger to run the tool.
The application window will appear Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers Click Yes to continue A 'Finished!' message will appear Click OKDeFogger may ask you to reboot the machine, if it does - click OKDo not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.-AdwCleaner-Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.Click on Delete.Confirm each time with Ok.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. Its not you who is infected. Its them.

My advice is to block them. Or send them a very threatening email about getting theur comuter disinfected.

Hi ,

I am developing a BHO in C# that is using Win32 Window with the toolbar , In all the scenarios in IE6, IE7 XP, Vista and IE8 Xp this window is displaying correctly on before IE window i.e it is showing in front, But in Vista IE Protected mode ON, this window is showing behind the IE Main Window,

How to Bring this window before the IE main in Vista Protected Mode ON.

Is there any security restrictions for this ?

Any Help would be appreciable

Hello,
When using MS Outlook or firing up IE, the "Windows Installer" window briefly pops up, sometimes flickering (as if multiple closings and openings are occuring), stating "Preparing to install ... ". Then the box goes away.

From what I can tell, nothing has installed.

In MS Outlook, this behavior always occurs when I am opening an email. In IE it only happens when I fire up Internet Explorer.

The only thing that has changed on my system prior to noticing this behavior is that I have installed the most recent versions of BlackBerry Desktop Manager and BlackBerry Device Mananger.

Thank You In Advance

A:Window Installer window briefly pops up

Hi Machine13705

It's possible that the blackberry installations tweaked a Registry setting, or didn't complete their installations elegantly.

I'd probably try the blackberry installation again as a first try. Then try running a Registry Cleaner such as CCleaner (in case loose ends are causing trouble --- http://www.download.com/CCleaner/300...ml?tag=lst-0-1 --- the "Issues" section of CCleaner is the one that helps clear up Registry oddballs).

If that doesn't help, for the Outlook behavior you can try Microsoft's suggested repair (in case it's the tweaked-Office Registry setting --- their quick-fix is a "Language version tool" that you can download and try, and they have two other possible repairs as well) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/265194

And, since you are running Windows XP -- you can always try the System Restore tool, using a restore point from just before you first installed the blackberry updates & the trouble started. You might have to reinstall the blackberry update again after this (but you might not! - it depends on where the settings are that were changed).

Last -- anytime you have unusual behavior from your system, it's a good idea to run some malware scans. Use the "thorough" or "High" settings.

Best of luck

Hi,

I have a new computer, (500GB hard drive; 6GB memory) and it seems that whenever I have a microsoft word document open the windows system starts to run really slowly!! When I am actually in the word programs (or internet etc) it works fine, but switching between programs, getting files up, opening task manager, viewing snapshots in the tool bar etc is extremely slow to respond!

I used my Microsoft office CD and repaired office, but it hasnt helped.

Help!

Thanks!

A:Window system slow when Word open

I have the same problem. When Word 2003 or 2007 is open the system slows down. Especially drag and drop operations on explorer (even if Word is minimized and has no open documents).

On the task manager, word does not take up a lot of memory under the processes, but things still slow down. I have the latest graphic card drivers. Win 7 professional x64 bit. Any ideas?

A:Slow startups, blank system 32 window..

Hello and welcome to TSF.

I recommend you Subscribe to this thread so you are notified of any replies via email. To do this click Thread Tools, then click Subscribe to this Thread. Make sure it is set to Instant Notification, then click Subscribe.

I see you have disabled some startup entries using MSConfig. This makes it difficult for us to see all the infections present on your system because they are hidden from Hijackthis.
Please click Start>Run and type "msconfig".
On the "General" tab please click "Normal Startup- load all device drivers and services" and click OK.
Restart when prompted and then post a new Hijackthis log here.

A:constant popup

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

· It will ask if you want to update the program definitions, click Yes.
· Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button.
· Click the Scanning Control tab.
· Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked:
o Close browsers before scanning
o Scan for tracking cookies
o Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
o Please leave the others unchecked.
o Click the Close button to leave the control center screen.
· On the main screen, under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer.
· On the left check C:\Fixed Drive.
· On the right, under Complete Scan, choose Perform Complete Scan.
· Click Next to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
· After the scan is complete a summary box will appear. Click OK.
· Make sure everything in the white box has a check next to it, then click Next.
· It will quarantine what it found and if it asks if you want to reboot, click Yes.
· To retrieve the removal information for me please do the following:
o After reboot, double-click the SUPERAntispyware icon on your desktop.
o Click Preferences. Click the Statistics/Logs tab.
o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
o It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).
o Please highlight everything in the notepad, then right-click and choose copy.
· Click close and close again to exit the program.
· Please paste that information here for me regardless of what it finds with a new HijackThis log.

This will take some time!!!!!!!!

Good Evening

Ok,as the title says. Whenever I want to uninstall something from my computer, I have to use the windows installer right. The thing is. It takes literally 10 minutes for the UAC to pop open. When it finally does, it just takes a few seconds depending on what I want to uninstall.

I've never encountered this kind of issue ever before. Not even in Vista.

Can anyone help me with this issue. I turned down UAC down one notch but nothings happened so far.

-Nekhet

A:Ridiciously slow Windows Installer - W7

Log on to a different user account and see if the same problem w/ UAC persists. If you don't happen to have a 2nd user account on hand, activate the hidden admin user account -

START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | right-click on cmd.exe above under programs - select run as admin. Then type

Code:

net user administrator /active:yes

Logoff your account and the user account named Administrator will be waiting for you at the logon screen.

Regards. . .

Hi there,I have a problem because I keep getting websites that popup. They are not 'rude' or seem to go anywhere dangerous and I always just click out of them. Recently I was on a website which I go on everyday 'KHInsider' and I got this message that 'my computer was infected' and that a program will run a scan to see the dangers. I went into task manager and delete it from there. This has happened at least 3 times (not from the same site). Also everytime I run AVG free it finds infections that have the word trojan in their label. It always finds from 4-12 of these infections and it always heals and removes exactly half and cant remove the other half.Im sure the situation will get worse if I let the infections continue.I know you are extremely busy but any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Please download TFC (Temp File Cleaner) by Old Timer and save it to your desktop.alternate download linkSave any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.TFC will clear out all temp folders for all user accounts (temp, IE temp, Java, FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari), including Administrator, All Users, LocalService, NetworkService, and any other accounts in the user folder.Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.Note: It is normal for the computer to be slow to boot after running TFC cleaner the first time. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (v1.46) and save it to your desktop.Download Link 1Download Link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. First I thought it was that I was trying to install a very old game but then, I tried to uninstall 1 or 2 programs I had installed recently and it took so long I actually had to manually force the cancel of the uninstall because how much time had pass.

I am trying to google search this but all I get is SLOW WINDOWS INSTALLATION (as in the OS) and that is not my problem really.

OH and, sorry if this is not the place for the post

A:My Windows Installer Wizard is super slow...

Does the installer seem to hang for an extended period (like 1/2 hour) then go through? The MSI may be hanging on something. Two things to try:

1) Download SafeMSI.zip and save it to your desktop> Boot to Safe mode> In safe mode, run the SafeMSI.exe to enable the Windows installer in safe mode> Now try to install/uninstall a program that gave you problems in regular windows mode

If it works fine in safe mode, boot to a clean start and see if it now works fine in a clean start

Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

If it works fine in a clean start, use the tutorial to track down the conflict. If it does not work in a clean start, see if you can use Process Monitor to track down what is interfering.

How to Use Process Monitor to Track Events and Generate a Log File - The Winhelponline Blog

This is more involved obviously.

Hello.
I'm having a problem in Win7. All applications that installs via windows installer are installing(uninstalling) very slow. I mean a simple program wich is 8 MB, takes about an hour to finish installation! It does the job correctly, i think, just that it
takes so long. I ran a CCleaner registry cleaner, Disk Cleanup, but it doesn't help.
I also ran a virus scan, and i tried a clean boot, but nothing changes.
Any suggestions?

Hi to all;

I used HiJackThis to diagnose possible problems. I came up with approximately 35 possible problems. However, this came with warnings not to "Fix" a possible problem unless I was sure it would not hurt Windows XP program.

How do I tell which support program is good and which is bad?

Thanks,

A:Unipages popup and constant refresh bug

Hi there,

Close all windows browsers and have HT fix the following :

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.searchv.com/5/search.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.searchv.com/5/search.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.searchv.com/5/search.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://findloss.com/srchasst.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.searchv.com/5/search.php?qq=%s (obfuscated)
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = http://www.search-2003.com/

O2 - BHO: WinShow module - {6CC1C918-AE8B-4373-A5B4-28BA1851E39A} - C:\WINDOWS\WINSHOW.DLL (file missing)

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

For these entries you require a special procedure :

O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system\msspi.dll
O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system\msspi.dll
O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system\msspi.dll
O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system\msspi.dll
O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system\msspi.dll
O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system\msspi.dll

1. Download and unzip: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.zip.
Important to do this first while internet connection is working.

2. Fix the O10's with HijackThis.

3. Run the LspFix you downloaded. Tell it to remove msspi.dll.

note : in order to be able to select Msspi.dll, you need to click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox.
Then check all instances of msspi.dll (and nothing else) , and move them to the "Remove" pane.
Then click Finish.

Then reboot and check all is gone by doing another HT scan.

About the "Armor2Net Personal" software you install, if you want to remove that again, go to add/remove programs and use the uninstaller, check in c:\program files if the folder is still there, if it is remove the folder, if you want to keep it then dont worry about it.

Hope this helps,

keep us posted,

Cheers,

I get these error messages that pop up whilst I am on the Internet. I cannot access my Yahoo email, My hotmail email, facebook account, my Adobe Security Center and Adobe Reader or Acrobat.

These are the multiple error messages that I'm getting:

MsiExec.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience and needs to close.
McAfee Services Same as above
Adobe Reader 9.1 Same as above
SiteAdvisor Same as above

I vaguely remember that an update for javascript appeared on the screen either yesterday or the day before which I updated. I've been experiencing these pop up error messages only from this afternoon. I have windows XP Home edition and need to know if I am infected and what steps I need to take.

A:Constant PopUp Error Messages

If this just started happening today, the first thing I would try is using System Restore or System Restore from a command prompt in Safe Mode to return to a previous state before your problems began?

Hey,

I have an itsy bitsy problem. =)

Our school have a program called "airnet connection". So basically, once I get connected with school's wireless connection called, "Airnet". I then need to connect "in" to the network by using their provide software which allows me to input my school id/pw.

Now, I would be fine if that connection box pops up within school's network but even at home while I'm using my own wireless, sometimes my loading page will hang because out of no where, that connection box will show up for me to connect to airnet. If I close that box, site will continue to load.

Is there anyway to prevent this from happening?? Thank you!!

A:Constant Network connection popup

Not knowing anything about the conditions under which "airnet connection" runs I can only make some guesses. Turn off the option to run at startup. Remove it from your Startup folder. Use msconfig to prevent it running at startup. If it is a service set the Startup Type to 'disabled' or 'manual.'

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions.Security CheckDownload Security Check by screen317 from here.Save it to your Desktop.Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.Run Combofix:You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal. You can download Combofix from one of these links.Link 1Link 2Link 31. A:Win Error Fixer Installer Popup at startup :(

Hi Miechelle,

Welcome to Tech Support Forum!

I apologize for the delay getting to your log. The helpers here are all volunteers and we have been very busy here lately. If you are still having malware problems, I will be glad to help.

OK, let?s do this first.

Did you, or anyone you know, install WinPCap (Windows Packet Capture) into your machine?

Please download ComboFix by sUBs:

NOTE: In the event you already have ComboFix, this is a new version that I need you to download.
Save it to your desktop.
Double-click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

CAUTION:
Please do NOT mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
Also, please do NOT adjust your time format while ComboFix is running.

NEXT:

Please reboot your computer normally into Windows, and then please post the ComboFix log and a new HijackThis log.
