Preferred Solution: No monitor after updates?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: No monitor after updates?

You could hook your drive up to another PC and try to boot from it but I doubt it will be any different. Sounds like you have downloaded a bad driver.

Can you get it to boot in safe mode and then use system restore to take it back to before you installed the driver.

What driver was it?

What OS are you using?

Do you have the OS disc?

Here's the Laptop I'm using, brand new:
HP - ENVY 17.3" Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce 940M - 1TB Hard DriveI'm using a 2nd monitor that's worked since I've got them both a month ago brand new. I'm using HDMI to HDMI for input and after auto-updates, now nothing I can do will get it to recognize my 2nd monitor, which is this one:
Acer - 27" LED HD Everything worked perfectly, now it's like I don't even have a 2nd monitor. Drivers are updated, I tried restarting. Nothing works. Any suggestions?

Here's what it says:

Thanks.

Greetings,

I'm having a problem where Resource Monitor basically fails to start monitoring. When I load it, the lists are blank - clicking on "Start Monitoring" typically has no effect at first, but if I continue clicking it, usually it will eventually start.

This is a brand new build. It ran a number of updates last night, but everything seemed to be working fine with resource monitor prior to this. I've tried a clean boot, disabling services, etc. and while it seemed to help at first (at least disabling services related to X-Fi sound card), the problem came right back.

For what its worth:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64
I5-2500
Asus P8P67 LE motherboard
4 GB Corsair DDR3 (1333)
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB
Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer

Running Avast antivirus (free), not much else.

Any ideas? I've seen this posted a few places, but don't see any real solutions.

A:Resource Monitor - Sporadic after Updates

Couple of things I can think of:

1) Boot into safe mode, navigate to C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\WMI, then rename the folder called Rtbackup. If this creates a fuss you may need to take ownership of the folder.

Take Ownership Shortcut

2) The other generic thing you can do is to run sfc scan to fix corrupted system files. If resmon is important for you and nothing works, you can attempt a repair install after backing up critical data.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Repair Install

Hello all I've been having this problem for a long time now and have found various unreliable solutions each time The basic problem is that my computer will turn on the fans will turn on the mouse and keyboard turn on the CD drive turns on the disk access light blinks and everything seems to be working fine but the monitor won't turn on I'm using dual LG monitors connected to one of my two NVIDIA GT graphics cards which are SLI'd together I have about a in chance of the monitor actually turning on which is on updates windows turn after won't Monitor to say that out of about tries just turning on and off the computer the monitor will turn on In the event that the monitor does turn on I get the quot windows did not start up correctly quot error at which point I try to run startup repair with varying degrees of success About in every times a system restore back to before I installed the updates on my computer will work For the other times system restore will either fail or when restarting the computer the monitor again fails to turn on However when this does work the updates which I had installed end up not installed and the next time I shut down my Monitor won't turn on after windows updates computer I have to repeat the same process again I've also confirmed that it must have something to do with the system updates If I force shut-down my computer without installing updates I have no problems turning it back on I'll get the start-up message that windows did not shut down correctly and I'll be asked if I want to start in safe mode etc However picking quot start windows normally quot works just fine Additionally if instead of shutting down the computer I hibernate the computer it also starts up just fine The problem only arises when I click quot shut down quot and updates are installed Any other form of shutting down or stand-by works just fine I've also tried unplugging everything from my computer except the monitors keyboard and mouse This sometimes works as well but in the end I am still asked to install updates and I have to repeat the whole process again I'm fresh out of ideas Can anyone figure out what's going on Thanks in advance

A:Monitor won't turn on after windows updates

If you can do a restore to a point before the updates when everything works - do it.

Then immediately go to "Windows Update > Change Settings" and turn off Automatic Updates. Choose: "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" under "Important Updates".

If there are updates downloaded and ready to be installed remove them. Be sure you can restart your computer without updates trying to install. Confirm that the issue is gone.

Then you can install the updates manually, by going to Windows Update. Uncheck all the updates, then install them one at a time. Test your computer after each installation for a good amount of time. If you reach the update that causes the problem then just restore back. You can then mark that update as "Don't show me this update again".

And I suggest leaving Automatic Updates off. IMHO no one should use automatic updating. A nice idea but problematic by nature. I believe that many of these issues related to updates are due more to the problems caused by installing several system changes at once then to any one update alone. My 2 cents.

Hey I have a SAMTRON Samsung brand I think DF X F X DF that is what it says in the Display tab monitor for my computer I have had it for about three years now Just like any other week I go to my Windows Update and install all the latest updates for my computer Now this week I installed some of the quot hardware amp driver updates quot one of which was for my monitor It went fine I downloaded and installed the updates then finished up some things and restarted my computer I have my monitor set at x pixels with Highest bit color quality However when I restarted my computer it turned on like normal but the color quality was terrible set at Lowest bit and the screen resoulution was set at x pixels When I noticed the changes I went to the display and settings tab and changed my screen resoultion and color quality to what I wanted it to be my normal settings First I tried it without restarting my computer It just stayed the same Then I tried it with restarting my computer It doesn't! but updates after worked, Monitor stayed the same also It will just go back to the Lowest bit colors and the Monitor worked, but after updates doesn't! x resolution Any suggestions as to how to get it Monitor worked, but after updates doesn't! back to my normal settings Help nbsp

A:Monitor worked, but after updates doesn't!

Okay, a little edit:

I've called my local tech store, BestBuy, and they gave me some useless information. I can get it to 800x600 pixels, but that is the highest I can go. It still won't let me get past Lowest 4 bit color quality. It is starting to make me angry.

I think I am going to go a little in-depth here and give you the whole story. I installed a Windows Update for my SAMTRON 76DF Monitor, and when I restarted the computer, all of my display settings where different. When I went to change them, I put them where I wanted them to be and clicked apply, but it just stayed the same. BestBuy said to get on an internet chatroom/forum and see if anyone else has had this problem.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, this seemed the most correct.

About 15 minutes ago, Windows required me to restart my computer for updates. I clicked restart and it did the necessary updates (supposedly). My computer got stuck on the shutting down window so I manually restarted it and now whenever I start my computer it won't get past the "XFX play hard." logo. I have my computer shut down for now to cool off. I'm using Vista ultimate 32

Anyone know how to fix this?

A:Windows Updates/ Monitor Problem

Hey Bro,

I think your probably OK. I also got the last windows update and it caused 6 BSOD crashes before I got a normal boot.

Just keep booting normally. My average after an update is 4 BSOD, then it runs fine. Not sure why,(only speculation). Only MS tards know for sure, so far.
MS's '09 plans might fix it with their new projects('09 opSys). If it's better, I'm filing a class action lawsuit against Vista based on the lemon act(might be state legislation only, but valid in Wisconsin) (Along with about 14Million others) you are not allowed to sell crap you know doesn't work and there is a president for it in law. If I see similar or same code in the new opSys, it's a dead giveaway and prosicutable.

Now that Bill is no longer in charge of quality control, it's out of the hands of the supergeeks and we can look forward to a *******ization of what computers should be. Smart money is on Ubuntu.

A:Installed Windows Updates - 2nd Monitor Stopped Working

I tried installing a new video card, which wasn't much luck. But after I put the Radeon 3650 back in the internal video card was detected. I hooked up my second monitor to that one, which since I do not run any graphics intensive programs on this computer isn't a big deal.

Not my favorite fix, but it works so. Yeah.

A:Windows 7 updates same for updates every time it checks for updates

See if you can System Restore to before Net Framework 4 was installed and then Hide it when it is again offered in Updates.

But be aware that some programs will need it and may not prompt you of this leaving you to guess why they are not installing or performing correctly. For this reason I always install it.

So you might want to reinstall it using its standalone installer since it may not have uninstalled correctly anyway.

In XP you have to go into the "Add/Remove" programs and check off the "Show updates" box at the top to reveal the MS updates installed.

I keep getting Error message: Install Failure after Windows updates are downloaded and Windows attempts to install those updates.

The download is successfull, however, after Windows 7 attempts to install those updates I get this message:

Configuring Windows Update. Do Not Turn off computer.

After Windows attempts the installations of those updates, I get the following message: Failure configuring Service Pack. Reverting Changes. Error_install_failure (0x80070643).

I contacted Microsoft on the problem via emails....they went through a number of trouble shooting techniques....but after all of their recommendations, all they could tell me was to reinstall Windows 7.

I really would not like to do that. Do you have any idea what the problem is?

As the title says, I have problems with Windows Update. I tried some fixes like: Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components, Reset_Windows_Update_History, MicrosoftFixit50362 (which is a Microsoft Installer Fixer that couldn't install PowerShell), MicrosoftFixit50202. But what I really need is installing .NET Framework 4. I tried forcing it to install, installing it step by step, but it couldn't go further than .NET Framework 3.5. I need that Framework, the other updates don't really matter. And the interesting thing is that my antivirus doesn't say that Windows is not up-to-date, which is not normal, in ESET Smart Security, if Windows is not up-to-date.
If specs matter:

AMD Athlon ll X4 750K
AMD Radeon R7 240 4GB GDDR3

A:Windows Update stuck at Checking for Updates and can't install Updates manually

Hi antoniu200:

Many other Vista users have reported that Windows Update seems to get stuck at "Checking for updates..." for long periods of time, and this problem dates back to the August 2015 Patch Tuesday updates - see my screenshots in ScousaJAY's thread windows update just seems to hang while checking in the VistaForums. This month's December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates required a full hour on my machine before it finished the  "Checking for updates..." phase and finally presented a list of available updates, so you might want to try running a manual Windows Update and leaving your computer alone for an hour or so to see if it eventually runs to completion.

You might also want to read Nikilet's recent thread Updates were not configured correctly in that same forum.  Some Vista users, including myself, received an error message this month stating "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" when they tried to install the December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates.  Six updates for the Vista OS and one cumulative update for IE9 were marked as "Failed" on my machine after Windows forced an automatic rollback and re-boot of my machine.  I re-ran Windows Update today and all Important updates that failed yesterday eventually installed successfully ("Checking for updates..." still took about one hour and I declined one Recommended update KB3112148 for Vista and one Optional update KB3106614 for Silverlight today) so the secret might be to install updates in smaller batches instead of trying to install all dozen or so available updates in a single update session.

Let's start with the easy stuff

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

A:Do the regular updates from settings and Microsoft's anniversary updates differ? If Yes, Why?

I would only upgrade to the production build of 10586 and then wait for the upgrade to the Anniversary Edition. It should follow shortly over the next few weeks. Windows 10 Mobile has many improvements, so I would say it is worth it.
While the main upgrades... 8.1 to 10586 use a lot of data (3GB), the monthly updates are much smaller.

I've offline Win10 alter MBR? prevent boot? Updates Updates never had any major problems with Win before and last year I installed some of the KB updates that turned out to be Win gubbins -mainly cos they were all labelled as 'Win updates' Yeh I wasn't being vigilant enough at the time but then with no Win problems before I had no problems with M I always boot up my laptop offline -mainly cos I have stuff to do on the computer first and then I'll go online afterwards I have a USB mobile internet dongle for my laptop -not a fixed line -and the wifi is turned off Following an install of some Win10 Updates prevent offline boot? Updates alter MBR? of these updates the next time I booted up I got the usual opening screen Dell logo F Set Up F Boot Options then Win10 Updates prevent offline boot? Updates alter MBR? the screen goes black and then nothing - the screen stayed black Normally it then goes to 'Starting Windows' yada yada log-in screen appears sign in off we go So after nothing I tried again and nothing F BIOS change the settings and nothing Tried all sorts of BIOS settings and nothing F advanced nothing Couldn't reach the log-in screen no sign of 'Starting Windows' After about half an hour - various BIOS settings making no difference at all - I made a cup of tea and thought 'Well that's that then ' The previous weeks had been 'GWX GWX You want Win Yes you do ' but my approach was to leave it a bit -wait until after the initial fanfare had died down any early bugs fixed and check out the feedback after a few months of people using Win proper Which made me think 'I wonder if this is something to do with Windows ' So I plugged in the USB dongle and pressed the 'on' button Lo and behold After the Dell screen a little M logo and a loading bar appear Starting Windows Log-in screen I sign in desktop appears and BOINK Up pops a GWX ad Those with home or work PCs probably leave everything connected -internet etc when they power down so the next time they boot up again with connections all in place they may not notice anything wrong with the boot just log in as normal and see the GWX ad People with mobile internet or with limited data -who only connect when needed -may have experienced this -their PC laptop not booting -but not realized that it's just a GWX ad - an installed 'update' -preventing the boot up process I think this was a result of installing the Win app KB but not sure It may even have been that this didn't take effect straight away the next time I booted up - or if it had a delay - tasked as a prompt or 'reminder' cos my response to any Win stuff had been zero Conspiracy theory time So what is this I bought Win - M already have my money Maybe I didn't read the very very small print but upon purchase I wasn't made aware that at some future date M would disable Win the OS I paid for granting access only if I accepted an online ad for their new product Over the next few days after reading the 'Remove Win KB AllStars' thread and after finding out a lot more about what M have been up to pushing Win I uninstalled some of the updates - first to go were KB and the mentioned KB Uninstalling required a restart Press restart shuts down as normal and nothing Change settings in the BIOS and nothing Connect the USB internet dongle and nothing All I got was the splash screen it goes black then either it just stayed black or one of several messages appeared on the black screen - 'boot manager is missing' was the most common one but I also got 'operating system is missing' a few times Using what turned out to be invaluable - Hiren's Boot Disc - I eventually found the core of the problem - the Master Boot Record MBR had been altered Now I don't go round messing with the system files or the boot up files - you do that and your system doesn't work - well duh - what do you expect So I leave them be How did it change then All I can think of is the update - I hadn't made any hardware changes or reconfigured anything and not installed any oth... Suddenly Windows 7 has stopped installing Windows Updates. It downloads, then creates restore point, starts installation, but then comes back with the error code 800F0900. This happens with all the updates when carried out individually, critical or optional. I first went through the process of clearing all the Start-up Programs in the Services section of msconfig. As that did not solve it I then stopped all but MS services, and that did not solve it.  I tried the Microsoft .NET Setup Verification Tool. This said there were problems that it could not fix and sent a report to Microsoft.  Following an earlier thread on this site, I installed and used the Windows Repair program from Tweeking.com. This failed to solve the problem. Does any one have any other possible advice to help solve this problem ?

I don't have that detection tool either. At least some of the office updates are available through the windows update feature. You can also navigate to the Office updates site from the windows update site. There are no problems with installing the office updates separately. In fact, I generally download only 1 or 2 updates at a time as I am on dial-up.

This is an inconvenient delay not anything serious Running Windows updates updates Microsoft Security blocking Essentials other windows if it makes a difference Issue Microsoft Security Essentials auto-updates block Microsoft Updates until MSE is finished Description I have Microsoft Update or Windows Update whichever it s known as in set to automatically check for updates but not download or install Microsoft Security Essentials updates blocking other windows updates without my approval I do this so I can review what s being updated I m a little wary Microsoft Security Essentials updates blocking other windows updates of Microsoft putting an anti-piracy app in as a quot critical quot update in the last year Microsoft Security Essentials updates blocking other windows updates or two Anyways when I boot up the computer it checks for updates and alerts me of them However Microsoft Security Essentials also auto-checks for updates upon boot and if it has an update it will automatically being downloading and installing it in the background Which is all well and good except whenever that s happening it causes MU to quot fail quot updates until it s done updating Thus I have to remember to wait until the MSE update is done then run the MU update Question MSE definition updates are included under quot Optional quot updates in MU is there a way to make MSE stop updating independent of MU so I can queue all the updates together I feel like this would be the easiest way to prevent this annoyance I don t see an option and I d rather put up with this annoyance if the only solution is to put all updates back into Microsoft s hands completely nbsp

A:Microsoft Security Essentials updates blocking other windows updates

My understanding of MSE is it will check several times during the to make it has the latest updates. Most GOOD VA programs will do this as there are several releases daily for AV definitions. This is the only way you and your machine will be aware of these releases.

When some of these attacks happen, a definition is released, but as the infection is refined, the the definition must also be refined and/or improved. I use F-Prot on my machines, but I install MSE on the kids and grand kids machines. I have seen as many as 12 releases in one day from F-Prot, this is what is call" being on top of things".

So I would not want to rely on ME being the one to check several times daily on all of my machines to see if a new release has been made.

I've got Office 2003 Student Edition (all installed, minus Outlook). I haven't done any updates to it. I did not install the Microsoft GDI+ Detection tool. And I only visit Windows Update (not Microsoft Update) and install the critical updates under custom install.

I'm wondering:

1. Are the updates for MS Office that are critical security things included when you do Windows Update? (For example, there are a number of things listed here towards the bottom: http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid=2232 -- would those have been included in the last batch of critical Windows updates?

2. Do you need the GDI+ thing to do Office Updates?

3. When you go to the Office Updates site, it wants you to install and run some kind of Active X thing. Is this necessary? And can it cause any problems?

4. Can doing critical Office updates (separate from whatever, if anything, that comes with Windows Update) cause any problems or conflicts with other things on your computer?

Thanks for the help!Click to expand...

1. No. You either do Windows update and Office update, or you do Microsoft update, which does both at once.

2. I think so, but I am not positive. If you need it, it will install it, or, if you decline, you may not get updates. One way to find out, try it.

3. I don't think it will do the updates without it. Again, try it. It never caused any problems for me having it.

4. I can't guarantee that, nor can anyone else. Sometimes these "hotfixes" cause problems. Wait at least a few days after release to update was my motto. If there were any problems, you may hear about them, giving you the option to wait for that "fix" and, it gives MS time to be notified and correct it. Hopefully.

For what it's worth, I always kept my XP updated, waiting a few days after the release of course.
Hope this helps.

Hi bro,I had the same problem 3 days ago and I have solved the problem so, I think, I can help you, first of all I need to know if you have any antivirus tool intalled on your computer,if it so,[download CLEANER sofware from filehippo.com-it's important]uninstall them, for this action use safe mode by pressing F8 button, when you boot with safe mod you will not be able to uninstall your antivirus, because you have loaded only the drivers that needs safe mod, that's why you must delete your antivirus manually, for best result go to control panel-->folder options-->mark "show hidden files, folders, archives" apply and ok then go to user folder and open AppData\Local\"antivirus folder" and delete it,after this open AppData\Roaming\"antivirus folder" and delete it as well,at the end,you have to delete the main folder of your antivirus, that is installed on C or another drive.for example:C:\Program Files\ESET.After that open cleaner go to REGISTRY and scan for issues and if you get[I am sure you will get errors] any problem, fix them[delete them, you don't need to save registry settings before deleting] after cleaning registry, you have to run cleaner,so, go to software main window and press RUN CLEANER button[it's the last step] and restart your computer with normal mode. Now you can install updates and configure your windows safely.I hope this will help you

Windows updates have been slow for a lot of Windows 7 users ever since Windows 10 was released.
Try rebooting the PC, then install the latest Windows update client. Then reboot the PC again and check for updates. Be prepared to wait for at least 30 minutes.

I am using Office 2013 Pro & it does not show updates in the normal Windows Update section on my computer. I have to refer to any Office application, select File & then Accounts to see that I have automatic updates selected & the update number, but it does not tell me if it is the latest update, so I have to check to see that it is the latest, which it is apparently.
I would like to be able to see which Office updates are available & to install them as I do with the usual Windows Updates. Can anyone suggest a solution please.

A:How do I get Office 2013 updates to show in Windows Updates.

Just a random thought. Does your computer have the "Click-to-Run" version of Office installed? Updates for the C2R version do not appear in Windows Update or WSUS. Updates are downloaded in the background automatically (whether you want them to or not).

You can identify C2R by looking under the File tab. There will be a button that shows update options (on or off) and the version number. Another way to identify C2R is in Window's Programs & Features. With C2R, you no longer have the ability to add or delete Office applications.

Until the October 2014 updates I would always receive a sytray notice of which updates had been installed. To clarify, after new Windows Updates were installed and with or without a reboot of the system, I would receive a systray notification that new updates had been installed and upon clicking that notification a window would open and show the updates that had been installed and success or failure status.

I no longer receive that notification. This was true for the October and November patch Tuesday updates. I can open Windows Update and select View Update History and see that the updates were installed but the systray notification only showed the latest installation history and was more convenient that having to open Windows Update to view the update history.

Anyone have any idea as to what caused the systray notification to stop working after updates were installed? OS is Win 7 Home Premium SP 1.

TIA for any replies.

The error code I get is "800736B3". I ran MS FIXIT and it said they did not detect any problems.

A:5 updates fail to install through windows updates or manual?

Hello, have you tried:

Open the Windows Update troubleshooter by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under System and Security, click Fix problems with Windows Update.

Its from this link: Windows Update error 800705b4

I know its a different error code but its worth a try.

Hi Zeek1017,

Welcome to Seven forums.

You should go ahead with all the updates on the system. As updates whether for the drivers or software provide better security and more features to the particular hardware or software.

However, it is always recommended to create a restore point manually before updating the system so that if required you can revert as well:

System Restore Point - Create

This tutorial would show you how you can perform system restore if required:

System Restore

Lastly. check this tutorial for setting updates automatically if you wish to do so:

Windows Update Settings - Change

Hope this answers your query. If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.

Hello I am hoping someone can provide some assistance in getting rid of this BSOD problem Here is what happened I was using two driver update programs One called Driver Booster by Iobit and the other called Slimdrivers I updated various drivers including Nvidia which I had previously uninstalled but it kept popping up so I just let it go The next thing I know after that is installed and there were no more drivers left to install I ran Windows Update and it also wanted to installed Nvidia again NVidia other updates and BSOD installing updates after driver I didn't have much choice in the matter before I knew it it was installing and I had to restart my computer When the computer turned on again I used it for a little while then it started to overheat something terrible The computer was so hot I thought it was going to start on fire Almost as soon as it started overheating I got the BSOD and within a second it restarted or shut down I can't remember which The fan was running at top speed but that still wasn't enough I could have cooked an egg on the backside of this thing So the next day I started the computer up again and I uninstalled Nvidia completely using Iobit's Uninstaller to remove all traces of it in my computer But the other problem I have now is that it still runs dangerously hot within a few hours I've uploaded the BSOD after installing NVidia updates and other driver updates zip file as per the instructions There must be some kind of conflict going on Any help is greatly appreciated

A:BSOD after installing NVidia updates and other driver updates

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any disc cleanup program before you upload another zip.

all transform and into Windows with a Windows or skin It's not just like how you could ignore some updates and be fine enforced telemetry and basically spying on all users is being enforced Screenshots I saw were not like the usual windows updates My main desktop has Linux Mint and Windows x Ultimate The last update I've made for Windows was in June I don't boot into it much anymore since my only main reason to keep x ultimate is for some gaming that somehow CrossOver a proprietary program made to emulate Windows applications that are complex like games much better than just updates... that that another on recently updates Read Win7/8.1 forum Wine and also there is Steam Read on another forum that Win7/8.1 updates that recently updates... on Linux But still there is some games that I play that only work well with win Should I disable updates Because from what I saw and believe me I've seen your stickied thread and will take a look at it but apparently resistance is futile now when people only receive one update which is a quot package quot when they are setup like me quot notify me of new updates let me update myself' that does not say much what it does but apparently creates deep changes to even the kernel of win Correct me if wrong and all hope is not lost

Hi, it seems like I get no more updates offered when I search for updates. My latest important updates are from 05.10.13. Since then I only get the same 42 optional updates shown. Shouldn't there be a few new ones (important and optional ones) since one month? Yesterday I read about the new IE11, that didn't show up either. Is there a website with a history of all released updates so I can check if there are any updates released/available that I didn't get offered in the last month?

A:No new Windows updates shown when 'search for updates' - Problem?

IE 11 isn't being offered through Windows Updates yet, except in certain areas.
The latest Important Updates should have been installed around 8th October
What happens if you attempt to install any of the optional updates?
There is no formal list of updates, since the list may vary from machine to machine - however, the listing in the forum stick here is kept pretty much up-to-date.

Last week I formatted my hard drive and did a clean install of Win7.
Windows update found 99 updates, eventually these were all installed.
No progs were loaded at this time. More than half have failed; five pages full on a 22" monitor. Many are 'important'. jpeg shows about 1/5 of the failures.

I have uninstalled one and reinstalled and it worked, but it was slow. How can I force a large quantity of updates to reinstall?

Thank you!

A:Win7 32x, format & reload, win updates 60% failing (50+ updates)

Welcome to the Forum.

When doing that amount of Updates it is always better to do just a few at a time as there are some that need a reboot to finish installing properly, especially the .net ones.

If you could fill in your System Specs so the experts know just what machine you have it will make things a lot easier for them to help you with any problems, don't forget we can't see your machine so have no idea what you are using. There can often be differences between using a laptop to a desktop plus knowing what security software you use can help.

Again Welcome to the forum and I hope you can get the help you need.

Sorry if my post title is a little longwinded - but these three problems seem to be related. After installing and running MSE I have been unable to update definitions either manually or automatically. At the same time I noticed that microsoft automatic updates are getting to around 28 percent and then stopping - not fully downloading or installing. I cannot get through to any microsoft websites now - but all other sites are fine. wuauserv and bits are missing from services also. Have I been sneakily virused by something which MSE hasnt picked up. I tried to run malicious software removal tool - it downloads alright but wont install - says its not a valid win32 application. I correctly downloaded the 32bit app. Can anyone shed some light on any of this. I dont want to rebuild again - again. Thanks.

Use Windows Update to find driver updates

In Windows Update click Custom Install in the main column, and then click Select optional hardware updates in the left-hand column.

Windows Update examines all parts of your system to determine what needs updating and it may recommend more than just driver updates. It's a good idea to visit Windows Update regularly for driver updates and other non-critical updates.

I was having problems with Windows Update. The dialog box would just sit there and present no status as to how much was downloaded. Download progress would stay at 0%. I turned on automatic updates and I started getting old updates in the list, some of them years old. I'm sure I would have already installed these updates so I hid them from view. Just went to check for updates again and 2 other years old updates appear. I have since set updates back to notify me when available. Why are old updates showing up with recent updates? I never had this issue before. I never used automatic updates, I always did updates after notification only. Now, because I switched on automatic updates and then switched it off again, these old updates are showing up. Any suggestions?

A:Switching to automatic updates presents old updates?

MS doesn't usually offer updates if you have them already. Are you quite certain you have them? If you haven't then it is likely to offer them when you turn Auto Updates back on.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Windows updates are available in different categories: important, recommended and optional.

As noted, some of them, for reasons not known by users, have broken the OS of different users.

In your opinion, what is the best option of choice?

Grateful to all!

Hi

Noticed this month that I suddenly had a lot of important updates to install when I check Windows update. Under important updates I have the likes of:

KB3055999 - Update APN database entry for SaskTel (Canada) in Windows 8.1 and 8
KB3045634 - You cannot make a PPP connection after you reconnect a PLC device in Windows 8.1 or Windows 8

The article for both of these states: Provided as an Optional update for Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1

Wondering why I have these and others listed as Important?

Thanks

My folks PC has Windows 7 and since it has been working perfectly they chose NOT to install SP1 until absolutely required.

This past Tuesday their computer received none of the normal security updates or patches. It did strangely receive the May 2013 Malicious Software Removal Tool but that was it.

What I want to know is it OK to manually download the latest security updates (for May 2013) and will the OS recognize them without a problem and if I do this would it conflict with when I actually install SP1 at a later date.

Any experts please chime in. Thanks.

I recommend installing Service Pack 1 first before you install the security updates . Windows requires the SP to get the recent security updates .

I ignore the pop-up window from the notifications area telling me Windows updates are ready to install, I'm busy. Then I'm ready to do it, but there's no icon in the notification area to click to do the install.

I've even gone as far as to do a manual install, just to make sure I've got the latest update. I know I'm fully updated, and then the pop-up window comes up telling me it has that update ready to install again!

Is there a way to retrieve the updates Automatic Updates has ready to install? Reboot?!

Will manually updating confuse Automatic Updates?

TIA, Dan

winXPsp2: I stopped seeing the windows automatic update icon appearing in my system tray even though anther system on my LAN has been getting updates.

I changed the automatic updates option from notify me to download but do not install and now when I shut down my computer it offers to install updates. Trouble is I don't want to install updates blindly - I want to pick and choose and that option is not available during shutdown.

Any idea what may be wrong or what to try? one possibility is that zonealarm or spysweeper may be getting in the way. what process should be running? Installing updates via the Windows update web page isn't an option since I refuse to install the Windows Genuine Advantage spyware.

thanks.

So I successfully installed a total of latest new updates appearing after Windows Old updates as Windows updates for my Windows x installation on Tuesday I think of them were quot important quot and were quot recommended quot for x systems Now I have received four additional update notifications through Windows Update one at a time I installed the first without giving it much thought after which I was asked to reboot Everything seemed fine after reboot until I tried my Firefox browser it looked all wrong and I could no longer Old Windows updates appearing as new after latest updates read any of the menu headings It was essentially non-functional Then I tried Internet Explorer It simply failed with an error window indicating that it could not start and it was checking for a solution to the problem So then I tried to uninstall the update and I receive a message that an error occurred and the un-installation was unsuccessful So then I restored Windows from an image file I had just made and Old Windows updates appearing as new after latest updates all was well again of course When this update came back through Windows Update I researched it a bit and was surprised to find that it was from Now it is Old Windows updates appearing as new after latest updates possible that I missed an important or recommended update but I know I've checked Windows Update numerous times between and now and this never showed up before I also doubt that I missed an important or recommended update since they are selected by default and I don't deviate from that But I didn't verify since I couldn't find an easy way to search the updates installed on my machine So I decided to hide that update Well long story short a different single update showed up and I tried installing it only to discover the same problem with my browsers I once again recovered and researched to find another old update this time from So I hid this one as well No less than more of these old updates have come up I believe that is the end of them since I've deliberately clicked quot check for updates quot a few more times and nothing other than the usual optional updates comes up I made a note of the four old updates KB KB KB KB So all of that said am I the only person experiencing this issue Is it possible that old quot failed quot updates have somehow been set to show-up again I really don't think I had failed updates from the past I know I may have had trouble with about updates over the years but if I recall correctly in the end I did get them to install I guess I should really search my entire list of installed updates for these Any other thoughts Thanks

A:Cannot Complete Installing Updates, or Check for New Updates HELP

Hello dlolley and welcome to Seven Forums.

According to the Advanced SystemCare diagnose report you provided there seems to be a problem with something called Tuneup 2012 or Tuneup Utilities. I'm not sure if this is a different product from Advanced SystemCare that generated your report or if Tuneup 2012 is a part of Advanced SystemCare. In any case, these tuneup utilities can cause major damage to operating system files, the registry, etc. I would suggest uninstalling them. Windows 7 isn't like XP which required constant tweaking to work right.

Then I would run a full anti-virus scan with your installed anti-malware suite. No anti-malware product is 100% effective 100% of the time. If there was such a thing we'd all be using it. So after running that scan I would follow up with some additional scans using these free tools. Don't forget to update the data bases before running the scans.:

Malwarebytes

ESET Online Scanner

Windows Defender Offline

If the scans come back clean you could try rolling back your computer to a date/time prior to the update problems using system restore. I would also run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

System Restore

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

When you're finished with the above you can try installing the updates again. Do not use the automatic update setting. Use the setting called Never Check For Updates (Not Recommended). That will be in Step 3 of this tutorial:

Windows Update Settings - Change

When you manually check for updates install them just a few at a time (maybe 3 - 5 at a time.) Keep track of the KB numbers. After installing the first group, restart the computer. If no problems are noted install the next group and restart. If problems do occur you'll know which group to uninstall. Install the updates from that group one at a time and reboot after each one. They'll either all install OK or you'll know which specific update is at fault. Leave that update for last. Continue installing the remaining groups rebooting after each group is installed. This is a much slower process but usually results in a clean install (providing the tuneup utilities you've used haven't caused additional issues.)

Hi,

For a while now I have been experiencing a strange problem. My laptop keeps changing the Windows Updates without my consent. I know this has been raised in the past but my problem is slightly different.

I prefer to choose "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download or install them", however periodically the settings change without my consent to "Never check for updates".

This is very frustrating as I am constantly having to keep an eye on this, and change the settings back to what they were in order to receive critical updates, or indeed any other update.

The laptop was bought new just under 12 months ago and came with Win7 Home Premium 64Bit pre-installed.

Has anyone else experienced this, or can anyone advise on a fix?

Many thanks for any help offered.

Regards

Paul

A:Win7 Updates changes settings to Never Check for Updates

First off IMHO constantly doing updates isn't always the best thing to do. MS is not infallible and sometimes puts out updates that cause problems.

If your system is running fine why bother doing updates all the time.

If you want all the updates then set it to check, download and install Auto. then you don't have to worry about it at all.

If the problem continues, the setting being changed to Never Check then more then likely you have some malware, of some type, on your system. Windows does not do that by itself. If anything it would change it to Always check, DL and install Auto, not the other way.

Is there a good way to sift through updates without going the "check for updates" route? I'm hoping for a method to find updates that actually effect system performance or robustness, rather than security updates. I mean, other than reading the descriptions manually.

It would be nice if there was an easy to use database instead of Click go to web page, read, repeat while trying to keep my place in the list. That's a nightmare.

A:Quickly sift updates without Check For Updates?

Doubt it? I haven't seen or heard of any other way to do it. Some patches depend on what other patches have already been applied so picking and choosing manually may not work the way you think it will. I would think it could actually impact performance negatively. It's not something I would do.

Greetings I recently built list. Updates on 'Installed failed, still Updates' appear yet a computer and the operating system I've installed Updates failed, yet still appear on 'Installed Updates' list. is Windows Professional Everything was going fine till a massive batch of updates had to be installed about in total When I booted up my computer it was stuck on the 'configuring Updates failed, yet still appear on 'Installed Updates' list. installed updates'-'failed to configure updates reverting back to previous state' screen for about minutes after which my computer booted normally I ran into some weird bugs like Windows claiming that I had never updated the computer nor installed any updates despite the update history showing several updates that had been performed in the past few days and after running the Windows Update Troubleshooter resetting Windows Update through the 'Services' menu and deleting every file in the SoftwareDistribution folder I simply installed the updates in small batches I should mention that after running the Windows Update Troubleshooter I did get a message telling me that my Service Registration was quot missing or corrupt quot but I think that's been fixed after performing the other two steps I mentioned above I also ran sfc scannow and everything checked out The issue that remains however is that a trio of updates seemingly failed to install according to the 'Update History' list yet they appear on the list of installed updates accessed through the 'Programs and Features' section in the Control Panel They are KB KB KB So the question is should I uninstall these updates and redownload and reinstall them Or should I simply leave everything as is I've read that hard drives and RAM can also cause these issues and though I really doubt my drive or my RAM are the issues here if it helps I'm using a Samsung Evo GB SSD no other drives at the moment and have GBs of MHz RAM installed x GB manufactured by G Skill Another strange thing I noticed is that on the list of installed updates it said that my computer has had a total of updates and after installing another updates I'm still seeing a total of updates I guess this is just a minor glitch or something of the sort Any and all help would be much appreciated

I apply MS Updates regularly and have no updates outstanding apart from two optional updates that I don't intend to install. However, when I visit >Programs and Features>View installed updates no Vista security updates are shown. I have had a problem with updates failing for a couple months. I have worked with both HP and Microsoft's Vista support teams to no avail. i have tried five or six different methods at the request of the HP and MS support teams to overcome this problem.

i consistently get messages that "Host Proces for Windows Services stopped working and was closed" and that windows will notify me if a solution is available.

the updates generate an error WindowsUpdate_800706BA.

Windows Update does not work, Windows Media Center updates do not work, and now the HP Printer updates no longer work. I'm kind of hanging open here without any of the security patches, OS fixes, and other updates.

any new suggestions would be welcomed!! My MS support guys just stopped responding to my replies about three weeks ago. i fear i'm at the end of his script!!

A:Can't get to Windows Updates site or MSE updates

I posted a problem yesterday and didn't get any responses yet. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but I'm working on a very time-sensitive laptop. I did some searching around on here and found a post by someone with an identical problem. One of the response team members (Gringo) posted some very detailed instructions for the original poster but they never posted back again so he closed the thread. So *I* followed his instructions, as listed here. At the end of his instructions, I have posted the logs that he requested of the other poster. Can one of you guys help me with this, please??? Thanks much! WarnerGringo's original reply to the other poster:Hello and Welcome to the forums! My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.
