Strange issues with WiFi router

Q: Strange issues with WiFi router

I am confused and have no idea where to start... I apologise in advance for the wall of text.

Recently I have been experiencing odd issues with my WiFi router ( at least I think its the router) ZyXel Keenetic Giga II. The most annoying of which is the periodic inability to load random webpages. For example, I might be able to load google but not any of the search results while at the same time being able to browse reddit on my phone or tablet. The pattern changed constantly and it doesn't seem to affect any particular web pages. Like I said - random. This happens once or twice a week and seems to be increasing in frequency. I have tried rebooting the router. Rolling back to factory settings, changing DNS. With no result. It only resolves itself when it "feels" like it and usually lasts from 5 min to several hours. It is also worth mentioning that I hardly ever use my laptop and most of the browsing and streaming is done using various mobile devices.

Any help in defeating my router would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello I am a bit of a hard time with routers on one network IP + dynamic Issues = with ADSL Wifi Router Router and unfortunately as things stand now they both have to be there So I just got ADSL and the only modem option available to me was one with a -port wired router I hooked that up into my existing network of about computers laptops and desktops which Wifi Router + ADSL Router = Issues with dynamic IP is connected by another -port WiFi router I started out with my only Wifi Router + ADSL Router = Issues with dynamic IP goal of hooking of these computers to the internet after I got the DSL by some MAC filtering configured in the WiFi router But having the DSL modem router has created another issue I am using separate IP gateways for both the routers which are in the same subset I can connect to both of them from all my machines The problem is I don t have any control over which computer connects to what router I am trying to avoid setting each PC up with a static IP that needs internet access Here is my setup in more detail My ADSL router is and my WiFi router is and both have the subnet My ADSL connection has dynamic IP and the modem router is connected into a LAN port on the WiFi router I have tried disabling DHCP on the modem router and changed my WiFi router IP to that of the modem which was counter productive to no avail Someone mentioned MAC address cloning but I am not sure if it will work in this setup Since I configured this I am seeing quite a few IP conflicts which are probably my fault as I didn t check when I was setting up static IP on computers that needed internet access I just want these routers to work in harmony if possible Can I just use one of them as a DHCP server I do not want to use static IP for any computer whether or not it connects to the internet Right now I am using it for computers that want access to the internet by guiding them to right gateway and the computers that need not be connected just have auto IP configured I would rather use MAC filters for this I am going to stop typing now before I dream about this mess I have on my hands Any help here will be welcome Thank You nbsp

so one laptop sees both routers and his will only see your router.

sounds like b/g modes are malconfigured. set both routers to b G mode only.

could also be one router is A/B and the other is B/G
(A mode uses different frequency than B/G)

In my house we have had various problems with our previous router.
It was always playing up, it wouldn't connect to websites it would randomly lose connection to the entire house occasionally.
Therefore we bought a new router which works perfectly through the Ethernet cables and on lan etc.
However there is a huge issue with the wifi, it will work for about 1-2 hours and then it will lose all connectivity on the wifi until you restart the router, which is an inconvenience to my brother who plays world of warcraft alot and always seems to be something going on. We have tried various channels through the router configuration, including 1 and 11 the latter of which it is currently set to. There is one other router in our area set to 7 so technically there should be little interference.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey everyone I d really appreciate any help you guys can give on WiFi Connectivity Issues Pace Modem/Router with 4111n the issue I m at my wits end at this point So anyway about a month ago my old wire modem pretty much kicked the bucket for good after about years of more or less dedicated service with the occasional hiccup here and there I was kind of saddened yet relieved and I was left without internet for a few days I contacted my ISP with the issue and after a bunch of failed restart attempts on their end I told them the damn thing was dead already but they were insistent on making sure I wasn t bs ing them they finally relented and decided to send me their new Pace n router modem A few days later low and behold I had a new Pace and guess what IT HAD WIFI The reason why this came as such an interesting surprise was because my old Wire that my ISP had originally provided us with was simply a modem with no router wifi capabilities on it In order to bypass the lack of Wifi I had to purchase a Netgear N router and had it hooked up to the Wire for years with no connectivity issues Anyway with the new Pace in hand I put my old Netgear away and plugged the new baby in and here is where things kinda went downhill Now my old set up was kinda WiFi Connectivity Issues with Pace 4111n Modem/Router strange I used to have the Wire modem hooked up to the Netgear router and in between had a Grandstream HT Voip phone adapter plugged in we have the need in my household for long distance phone service and in order to have a more economical option purchased a separate service with a different company WiFi Connectivity Issues with Pace 4111n Modem/Router that provided the Grandstream I should mention that the set up we use to have was put in place by someone from the company and that I had no hand in putting it together that way For years this set up worked fine with no issues but as soon as the Pace n came into play with the Grandstream in tow behind it my Wifi connectivity basically went down the crapper After about a week with random signal drops and Wifi connection issues I decided to call my ISP back and describe the situation to them What has followed since then has been a ridiculous back and forth with various quot technical support quot people basically insisting in guiding me through the typical reset process of the Pace different variations of quot just unplug it from your power source for a bit and see if that works quot or my favorite quot just get a longer cable and keep the Grandstream and the Pace far away from each other so that the Grandstream doesn t interfere with the WiFi radio signal quot Now please keep in mind that I pretty much had already tried ALL of this and more prior to speaking with quot technical support quot and the fact that that s basically all the advice they ve been able to offer is just dismaying So here I am turning to the net for help on this matter hope someone out there has something better than quot unplug and replug and see if that works quot to offer in terms of help -PhantomRaven P S- A couple of other specifying notes for those who might need some more info on the subject -After my last conversation with tech support which happened today I finally got someone to guide me through fiddling around with the Pace We managed to change the Wireless Channel to Ch on a MHz range along with confirming the connection type as a PPP E setting So far I ve had no issues but right after I hung up with them I had to revert to my old system of disconnecting from the WiFi and reconnecting in order to get my signal working again -My doggy Wifi issues usually would start like this I d start up my laptop which is set up to log in to my home WiFi signal automatically and right away I d notice the typical yellow triangle symbol over the network icon indicating quot limited or no connectivity quot At this point I would usually have to disconnect and then reconnect to start it working again This would usually keep it worki... I recently bought dlink D2750U WIFI ADSL modem/router, for my ADSL internet connection.

But I have now changed my ISP, who provide internet via cable(not telephone line). The ISP guy provides a cable modem(old modem) along with it.

I have connected my PC this way:
Cable modem -> Router -> PC through RJ45. I am able to access internet from my PC, but I am not able to get wifi working on the router. And I am logging onto internet through a dial up connection.
1) Please help in configuring the router to get wifi working.
2) Also, my default gateway seems to be either or blank. So, I am not able to login to the modem unless I remove the modem connection. Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong here.

Here are a few more details:
Output of ipconfig:

A:Using dlink D2750U Wifi Modem/Router As a Wifi Router

Hey Narain. The D-Link unit you have appears to be a combo unit (modem and wireless router) since it connects straight to the RJ-11 phone line. This unit won't work with an ISP that provides service by way of coax cable. The D-Link will work if you want to use DSL, but you need a cable service compatible modem or combo modem/router if you use cable service.

Is there a way to combine the internet that my cell phone receives and the wifi router I have at home to increase speed?

I have the ability to create a wifi hotspot from my cell phone if this helps.

Just something I thought up in my head, and wanted to find out if it is possible. Thanks in advance.

I am looking to replace my tired Linksys WRT54G router that is about 10 years old. I love the router, and its even better with DD-WRT on it, but I'm starting to have troubles with the wifi dropping all the connects for a couple seconds when running all my wireless devices. I have 3 smart phones, 2 tablets, 1 Chromecast, a smart TV, and Roku + a laptop or 3 in my house right now, and it seems like its getting to be a bit much for it.
I have had to completely re-flash the firmware twice this year to get the wifi working again, so I'm thinking its time for replacement.
I have been thinking about just getting the new WRT54GL for $50, but I'm also thinking it might be a good idea to upgrade the wifi technology past wireless G .
I'm wondering if my Tablet (Nexu 9), and our smartphones (Razr HD Max) along with the Chromecast will take advantage of the new wireless standards and higher speeds or not? If they will can someone recomend a decent wireless router that takes DD-WRT nicely in the sub-$100 range? Thanks!

A:Looking for new Wifi Router - Will Tablet/Smartphone take advantage of new wifi Standards?

I been programming in Android/Linux since 2010 and there is code that supports VHT is Very High Throughput. Right now the standards are HT is High Throughput .

As for DD-WRT firmware is like your overclocking your router pushing it beyond the OEM limits. I use to use DD-WRT but had quit many years ago since the routers that used that firmware would fail too much.

So best to buy a better business type enterprise router wired then you can use WiFi router as AP or just get WiFi AP(access point). To me WiFi Router is also Wired Router, but to use just a wired router and use WiFi AP through a switch is better. If one or the other goes you can easy replace them. Where as if the WiFi Router fails you would need to replace it.

If you really want to use DD-WRT then Look at Buffalo WiFi Routers some come pre-installed with DD-WRT on them. Frankly you really don't need DD-WRT today because newer routers or WiFi routers are much better built and offer much more power NPU = network processor units and 128, 256, 512, 1GB of RAM some have Dual Cores.

Wifi doesn't connect when i move away from wifi router. I have a wifi router installed in my drawing room where i get good browsing speed on phones and laptops. But the problem starts when i take my laptop from drawing room to my bedroom which is not more than 5 mtrs from router. Wifi signal drops to zero on laptop whereas it remains decent on phones. Earlier my laptop used to connect in bedroom as well..This is happening lately. Is there any solution?

Hi Could you please tell me if this is possible:
My computer is connected to a wireless network. Can I hook up my D-link (DIR-412) to my computer and use the internet from the computer to output another wireless area?

Thanks sounds complicated.

A:Connected to WIFI and want to extend wifi with another wireless router

Where you live is your setup like this?

WiFi Router

Modem with built-in WiFi Router

If you want extend the WiFi you would get WiFi Access Point. Or you can take a WiFi Router and disable NAT, SPI, DCHP, then you create a static IP address. 192.168.x.50

I have been trying for some time to accomplish the title result. I'm not techie enough to do it.

What I want is to be able to use a Tablet to read in the rear of my home (which is out of range for incoming wifi signal.)

If I can set up the computer to do this, I will cable connect to a router in that area.
I have two computers and could use either.

1.a PC running XP (should update to windows 8.1, but have never bothered to do that, since XP works just fine. (I had this computer sharing to the router, when I had DSL internet connection, using Windows wizard to set it up) Couldn't get it to work when I switched to WIFI internet access) I could switch to win 7 or 8.1 if that would help.

2. a Lap Top running WIN 8.1,

Any help is appreciated.

Actually my wifi adapter can catch all other wifi signal except my wifi router.

A:my notebook wifi adapter don't get my wifi router

There are several resons.1. The wifi signal might be too weak at the point where the computer is.2. Other device radiation/signals might be blocking it.3. Your router signal might be hodden (check EWS of router).4. Signal broadcasting might have been turned off on router. Since other signals are found on the computer, there shouldnt be a issue with your couputer.

A:wifi connectivity/wifi limitation Issues

Hello @adityarai82, Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! The forums are a great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community! I read your post about the WiFi issue, and wanted to assist you!  I understand that you tried many troubleshooting steps already, without success. Try reviewing the following steps, offered by community member @Great-Deku-Tree: First, we have a step by step guide to walk you through the troubleshooting process here: Troubleshooting Your Wireless Network and Internet Connection A second option, is to try these steps:Powercycle the network:1. Shut down your notebook.2. Unplug the power to your router.3. Unplug the power to your modem.4. Wait at least 45 seconds.5. Plug in the modem, and wait for it to come back online.6. Plug in the router, and wait for it to come back online.7. Turn on your notebook, and test your connection.Disable the Power Off option for the adapter:1. Open Device Manager. (Win Key+R > type devmgmt.msc > OK)2. Expand the Network adapters.3. Right click on the Ethernet/Wireless Adapter and click Properties.4. Click the Power Management tab.5. Remove the check mark beside Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.6. Click OK.7. Test.Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.Reinstall the network adapter drivers:1. Download the drivers from here but do not run them yet.2. Go to your start screen/menu and type Device Manager.3. Expand Network adapters.4. Right click on the wireless adapter and choose Uninstall.5. Run the downloaded drivers from step 1.6. Restart your PC and test.Test an ethernet connection:Self explanatory. Test if the issue persists on a wired connection to rule out the wireless adapter hardware so troubleshooting can be directed towards the right areas.Test another connection:Many people rule out their home network as an issue if another device is working on the same network. Networking is not that simple. Each device interacts differently with your router or modem and it is impossible to rule out settings in that device until the notebook has been tested on another network. If those three steps do not resolve the issue, try this document published by Microsoft for networking issues: Wired and wireless network problems. You can change the operating system with the dropdown in the upper-right corner of the document. Source: Common fixes for wireless connectivity issues. Please let me know if this information helps you resolve the issue by marking this post as "Accept as Solution", this will help others easily find the information they may be looking for.  Also, clicking the Thumbs up below is a great way to say thanks! Have a great day!

Well as the title says I am experiencing difficultly in getting the NAT setting on my Xbox to Open status I ve searched in many places on the internet including these forums for an answer and I ve yet to NAT Xbox modem/router with router 360 P600R WRT54GS Issues and find one which solves my issues so I decided it was time to finally ask for help What I m working currently working with is the Embarq P R ADSL modem router combo If there s a more specific name for it I don t know it as I don t have the packaging - I m simply going by what was printed on the modem itself working through my Xbox 360 NAT Issues with P600R modem/router and WRT54GS router Linksys WRT GS router by way of the ethernet ports of both units The WRT GS is then hardwired to four different computers and broadcasts to my Xbox wirelessly via Xbox 360 NAT Issues with P600R modem/router and WRT54GS router microsoft s network adapter specifically designed for the unit compatability between the adapter and router isn t an issue just trying to cover all my bases Because of this all of the LAN ports on my WRT GS are currently being used preventing me from attempting to simply make my WRT GS act as only access point since to my knowledge I would need Xbox 360 NAT Issues with P600R modem/router and WRT54GS router to plug the modem router into one of its LAN ports instead of the ethernet port Thus far I ve tried enabling UPnP on both units setting up a DMZ for my s IP on the WRT and Forwarding Ports TCP UDP and TCP UDP on the WRT both individually and simultaneously I also had somewhat of a breakthrough when I switched the P R to bridge mode as it gave my which connects wirelessly an Open NAT with no connection issues However doing so rendered the four hardlined computers in my home unable to connect to the internet so I was forced to change it back to routing mode and have found myself at a brick wall of sorts when attempting to decide what to do next In addition I do believe the issue lies in either the interactions between the P R and WRT GS or simply the P R itself as I ve had the WRT GS for years and experienced little to no problems with it before especially considering how familiar I ve become with manipulating its settings However the P R is new and with it came my troubles Any assistance would be greatly appreciated nbsp

Hi FASTER Bridge ethernet-->wifi using vs - MUCH Wifi with Bridge router there If you've a spare Wifi vs ethernet-->wifi Bridge using router - MUCH FASTER with Bridge old router which you can set up as a wifi bridge and connect a bit of LAN cable from Laptop into the Bridge router you'll generally get FAR better performance from even a cheap router Logic behind this is that most Wifi adapters are half duplex whereas a router is full duplex and throughput will be significantly better Another advantage is that you can still use GHZ band even if your PC or whatever only can handle GHZ wifi If your router doesn't have bridging facilities you can often do it by a firmware upgrade --for most routers try this www dd-wrt com Unleash Your Router Note --this is the Bridging router --not your main one that you use to connect to your ISP with --don't want to cause people to have inoperable boxes I've found using a Router as a bridge far better than having to have loads of LAN cable all round the house --and also antennae in wifi routers are hugely better than most built in Wifi cards so you can in a lot of cases avoid extra slowdown caused by wifi extenders In my quot man shed quot -- a good metres from the main house - could just about get Mib s on a very poor GHZ wifi signal from the wifi card Laptop now acceptable - still with GHZ wifi but using quot Bridged quot method with an old EDIMAX wifi port router Around Mib s still a lot slower by about X - I'm getting nearly Gb s download in main house on GHZ wifi --ISL has excellent Internet than in the main house but perfectly OK for streaming Football etc when friends are around and we're all drinking Beer etc -- no complaints from quot the Other quot about noise cheers of quot Goooooal quot clearing up etc etc Good even for a SLOW Ping -- remember I'm over metres away from my House and on GHZ Wifi -- GHZ not receivable at that distance added -- even if your PC laptop doesn't have a LAN connector it's still worthwhile doing this with a USB-- gt Lan adapter -- even a USB -- gt LAN works really well -- USB speed will easily handle Mib s and adapter can cost as little as EUR - those cheap Chinese unbranded ones work fine too I've had simultaneous connections through that Bridge router this way -- guys had laptops with no LAN cards - they used the adapters --all very happy USB quot -- gt LAN adapter-- gt Lan cable-- gt Port on Bridge router Cheers jimbo

You remove all the stored wireless profiles, then search for your own network. Finally, you set "connect only to preferred networks" in the options of the wireless client.

Dear All First post here and in need of some help Following problem has been driving me crazy for the past days and I'm no closer to an understanding resolution The following is quite an exhaustive and I hope logical description of the problem I have WiFi computers and WiFi printers - Samsung M W Laser printer and Canon Pixma MG inkjet printers computers on my WiFi network print fine to all three printers other computers one a desktop and one a laptop which are both running Windows Home Premium SP -bit cannot print to the Samsung or either of the Canon printers All computers could print to all printers last week before I replaced my wireless router I had Network/Printer WiFi Problem Strange a Netgear DGN and have replaced it with an Strange WiFi Network/Printer Problem ASUS DSL-AC U Now after this upgrade PCs can still print to all printers and cannot I have checked that all of the computers are on the same WiFi network and all have the same encryption key using WPA -PSK encryption The network configuration page from the MG says that Bonjour is enabled but the Bonjour LPR Service is disabled Is this important it seems not as of my computers can print OK I can successfully ping all of the printers from both PCs that cannot print to a printer - the printer IPs are and My router's IP is and subnet mask - so that seems to be OK I have reinstalled the printer driver for both Canon printers using the latest drivers on the Canon website Version released July on both problem machines and I still can't print to any Canon printer over WiFi I have also re-installed though what a pain that was the printer driver for the Samsung Laser printer Also once a document has been sent to a printer and stalls opening an elevated command prompt and stopping and restarting the print spooler service 'net stop spooler' 'net start spooler' also has NO effect and the document still won't print However on one of the two non-printing PCs starting and stopping the print spooler service will allow the Samsung Laser printer to print the document - but I have to do this for each document I send Just to confuse matters even further - I tried scanning a document from both Canon Printers to all WiFi computers - to see if data could be sent from the printers to the computers and both documents were received by all WiFi computers This surely points to the fact that the Canon printers are correctly connected to the WiFi network correctly and that the problem lies within both of the PCs that cannot print The Samsung printer will send a scan to the two PCs that can print to it it apparently sends a scan to a third but there is no error but I can't find the scanned document anywhere and the fourth PC it apparently can't see I am currently checking which services are running on all PCs in an attempt to see if the problem is in a service or services that is are disabled or stopped Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks for reading the above and sorry for the short novel Thanks in aticipation Zaph

How would one set up a home wifi network with a non-wifi router? I have a router for my voip phone but it is not wireless. Do I just add a wireless card to my main PC?

I do not want to remove my current router. None of the wifi routers I have looked at have VOIP ports on the back.

Will adding a wifi PCI card do the trick? Most of the wifi cards show them in use with a wifi router.

you can use a wifi card to do the same, but its a bit fiddly..

A:Internet connection is strange after installing wifi usb stick

Actually Ralink chips are used in a lot of name brand stuff. so that's not specifically good or bad in and of itself.

The first thing I would suggest in an attempt to help prevent 'wonkness' would be to make sure the usb port is not set to go low power or sleep.

To Disable Selective Suspend:

open the control panel
go to power options (you may have to set view to small icons)
click change plan settings
in the window that opens:
click change plan settings
click change advanced power settings, expand usb and ensure usb selective suspend is disabled.

edit: you may also want to consider disabling ipv6 as some lower end devices don't really support it.

A:Wifi router

Simplest and easiest solution is the get a "real" wireless router & connect your laptop & phone accordingly.

Need a few questions answered before we can really help you further because there are too many vague things in your initial question...

Who is the ISP?
Did the ISP provide you with a cable modem or DSL modem? Does it have built in WIFI?
How did you setup the wifi from the virtual router software? WEP, WPA, etc?
Is the laptop connected to cable/dsl via wire or is it wireless? if it's wireless then for God's sake just use that wifi for your phone as well!
Is the laptop a PC or Mac? What version of Windows or Mac OS X are you running?

Post back, Hope this helps!!

I have a Belkin wireless router. I have a Belkin wireless print server. The router is not connected to the Internet because where I live, only has WIFI service. Which means I also have a Linksys Speed Booster,WUSBG54 to connect to the internet. My problem is that my print server will only print if the CAT 5E is connected from my laptop to the router. At that point I lose my Internet connection. I have to unplug the CAT 5E from the back to gain Internet access.
Is this the way it has to be?

Configure the router and get the wireless printer to work. Through the router, (it should not need the internet to print), Then Configure the wireless adapter to connect to the internet. Not sure, but it should work.

Within the last month or two, I finally bought a wireless router to use with my laptop, wii, and other wifi stuff. However, I have noticed some very strange things which seems to happen with this router.

It tends to forget some settings

I originally set the date, and some other options like hide SSID and stuff. However, less then a week later, the date moved back to 2002, and it started broadcasting the SSID again. And this has happened more then once.

Also, a couple of minutes ago, I got randomly disconnected from wifi, and then it was unable to find a signal for about a minute. I checked the log (figured it got a new IP or something), but nothing seems to have changed.

My router is a D-LINK WBR-2310

modem - router - PC - router... confusing? it gets better

im currently hosting a deticated counterstrike source server behind a router, its working now and all the ports are fowarded. DHCP on the second router is off, i dont know where to go from here. let me know any advice.

A:issues bridging from router to router

First off, since you actually want the NAT layer to be active, I'm not sure that you actually want to disable DHCP. In this scenario, you also don't want any bridging, since as you say, this is a private network.

How about starting with the make/model of each of the router?

Admittingly, I know little about networking and WiFi routers.

But I can't help wonder why two lights (labeled Wireless and Ethernet) flash on my Linksys WiFI router when my PC works on a document, searches for a file, or performs other routine functions that don't involve accessing the Internet or LAN.

Is it paranoid to think that information being transmitted despite a firewall and anti-virus software that claims my PC is clean? Or are these router lights flash for reasons other than indicating transmission? Note: they don't flash when the Ethernet cable is disconnected from the PC.

Any help would be appreciated.

lets see an xirrus screen shot

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.
Direct link to the program is here

{If the above link does not work heres another link,77196-order,4/download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

A user guide is available here

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.
Full details are here

For a reliable (or robust as the Xirrus user guide says) wireless connection you need a signal of about -70 dBm or better.

I have the linksys WAP11 router and only one computer (laptop(MAC)) works on it at a time. I called Linksys but they say I have to pay $ to get the answer ( I am out of warranty period). Any advice. I am using two MAC's and have my modem connecting to my Wireless Access Point WAP11 wifi router.

A:How do I use 2 laptops on one wifi router?

It looks like the WAP11 is only an Access Point. Do you have a router connected as well? The router allows you to have mulitple computers online at the same time. Right now you are only connected through your modem, which allows 1 computer to connect at a time.

I have one of those motherboards which has an AC WiFI Adapter built on it...

That one to be exact.
Now I've followed these steps;

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=NAME key=PASSWORD
netsh wlan start hostednetwork

Putting those into CMD and it comes up fine as told in the tutorial.
The problem comes however in turning sharing on, this then turns my internet on the Ethernet port off, it'll say something like it being limited and stays on Unidentified Network forever on that Ethernet port. As soon as I turn sharing off on the Virtual Wifi connection I've made, the Ethernet internet then goes back to normal and I gain internet access again.

This is obviously useless because I need the internet through the Ethernet to be able to setup a Virtual WiFi Hotspot thingy.

Can anyone help?

A:Need help trying to set up a Virtual WiFi Router...

I've just tried a few free Virtual Hotspot programs that were most commonly used on the net, they all go to create the hotspot but fail.

I bought the below model and i'm not particularly impressed with it , it costs me $79.99 + tax, i see Amazon has a 750 model for $10.00 more .

NETGEAR N600 Dual Band Wi-Fi Router (WNDR3400)

My computer is a Dell Inspiron running Win 7 sp1 64 bit , just a basic bare bones model really . A tablet running old android is the only other thing thats connects wirelessly and i'm not convinced the dual bands make a difference .

The tablet is still painfully slow and i see no improvement over my old 150 rated speed single band router .

Open to all suggestions

A:Need advice on new WiFi router for under $100.00

In order to use the dual bands, namely the 5ghz band, you need a dual band adapter. A lot of things in your house can cause interference with the 2.4 ghz band, cordless phones, microwaves, etc. I use the 5 ghz band on the weekend when there are many 2.4 ghz connections around me. The 2.4 ghz works best through walls and other obstructions.

I m looking for unresponsive Router WiFi some advice from people WiFi Router unresponsive who know a bit about wireless router hardware I help run a small but busy pub in the highlands We have a standard TP-Link wifi router which we currently allow free access to for customers In the winter when the pub is quiet we have no problems with the router at all However when it gets very busy devices struggle to connect to the router I m uncertain as to whether the sheer volume of traffic is just slowing our internet connection down to a halt or if it s a matter that the router just wasn t built to deal with the kind of volume that it s getting My instincts tell me that it s probably the latter since it s the router that devices are having trouble connecting to Would you concur with that assessment If so are there higher capacity routers that might do the job better Or would we be better moving towards a pay-per-use model to slow down use of the router Thanks a lot nbsp

A:wifi and router question

You should be able to achieve this by a wireless repeater.

It does depend on the range from your current router and where you place the repeater though.

It is also possible to configure some routers to be repeaters - albeit slightly more tricky than just buying a repeater. Again, it does depend on signal strength etc. The repeating has to come from a router - not from a receiving card.

If you log onto your friends router, there might be a "Repeater Mode" or something similar. Alternatively, give it a google to see if someone has found a way to do it.

Search for example:

Belkin WG2400 convert to repeater

Hope that helps

I run a WiFi router from it, to serve as a connection for my laptop. I presume I will have to re-install the drivers and set-up from scratch. What settings should I look at writing down so all this is easier to do? It took me ages to get it up and running first time. I run Zone Alarm.

A:WiFi router set-up after format

Well, unless you have a very unusual configuration, your router or the connection to the laptop should not be affected at all. If you have a wired connection to the desktop, the default TCP/IP configuration after the install will connect just fine. Obviously, you'll have to configure ZoneAlarm to allow access, that that's not anything to do with the router.

Reset the router to factory defaults and then connect a computer to a router LAN port. If you still cannot access the router's configuration pages ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

[Press ENTER after each command.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.

A:Can I use my router like a wifi dongle?

If the router has Wireless Bridge (also called AP Client) mode it can be used as you desire (to "extend" a wireless network to an ethernet segment). Check the user guide or browse through the configuration pages to determine the router's capabilities.

Many USB wireless adapters have an integrated antenna and are just one piece (like a USB flash drive) while others have an external antenna and include a short USB cable. In general the latter type are better for working with a weaker signal and, of course, are more easily placed in a better location.

can malwares or viruses come from a wifi router in a public; a coffee shop, a public library, a restaurant, or school?

A:malwares from a wifi router?

In public wireless places, malware comes from the other computers that are on the network, not the router. Always make sure your firewall is set to public, so it will stealth its ports to all other computers on the public wifi network. That way, other computers will not be able to see your computer while connected to the network. Other than that, it is no different from being at home.........There is always a risk of a malware infection any time you are on the web. Always use antivirus software, keep it up to date and do periodic scans with Malwarebytes and HitMan Pro (both are free). HitMan Pro Malwarebytes

Really just curious if I am the only one that keeps a second cheap, or just older wifi router as backup.

I have an E4200 setup with the same ssid/password, and as many other general settings possible as my primary wifi router, (Netgear R8000). If the primary tanks, I just plug in the backup. I would think the people that play around with alternate firm wares would keep a backup router just in case of bricking.

I don't keep a backup WiFi router, but it doesn't seem like a bad idea. I guess it really depends on your situation. If my primary router were to go down, it wouldn't be a big deal as I would be able to hook up a cable almost anywhere in my home. I could also pick up a new router relatively easy from any nearby stores.

I have the Netgear N600 and I love it! It is a great all round router. It goes for $75 on Amazon and the Gigabit version goes for $5 more. I would avoid Belkin routers since I have heard bad things about them. The Linksys N900 router also seems to be a possibility.

I would highly recommend the Netgear router (N600) because it is a good value for the performance. Keep in mind, when looking for a router, you should probably ignore the mbps ratings since your connection is probably not realistically close to that level. Look at warranties, reviews, and reliability. We have a ton of devices connected to the router at once (at least 10) and it works fine. It makes me lag a bit when gaming from time to time but that isn't usually the case.

Welcome to TSG!
Sure doesn't sound like a hardware or software problem. You may of uncovered your own problem with power reliability. How many other appliances or lights are on this circuit? You may fix the problem by removing one or two.
Have you tried moving the main power connection of the printer to another power outlet on a different circuit?
If you are intending on purchasing further equipment another router would make no difference if above theory is correct, but you could try an UPS, (Uninterrupted Power Supply).

Hope you can help - this has just started happening over the last few weeks.

I have a modem conected to a router which is connected to my PC and PS3 and everything runs fine. However, whenever I leave my PC on overnight, in the morning the connection to the internet is lost. All I have to do to get a connection again is unplug the power to the router then plug it back in again.

What do you think is happening to the router from the time I go to bed (internet connection is fine) to the time I wake up in the morning (internet connection is lost)?

In order for you guys to investigate what info would you need from me?

A:Strange router problems at night...

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Make and exact model and hardware version of any other network equipment, like a repeater, a booster, hi-gain antenna, etc.
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
For wireless laptops, have you made SURE the wireless switch is on?
For wired connection issues, have you booted in Safe Mode with Networking to see if that changes the symptoms?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key:

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

A non-Windows firewall or security suite or even another security application may be corrupt. Uninstall any, run the Removal Tool if one is provided and run the following repairs. It (they) can be reinstalled after testing.

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or 7.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.
