Socket 1366 Xeon - can anyone recommend compatible waterblocks?

Q: Socket 1366 Xeon - can anyone recommend compatible waterblocks?

It's getting to be upgrade time again.

Going to go the server route, probably 1366 Xeon.

My questions are:

1. Do Xeon 1366's have different hole alignment/spacing that consumer 1366's?

2. If so, can anyone recommend some water blocks other than Koolance, which I know I can use, to take a look at?

Thanks for any help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Im pretty sure all 1366 motherboards use the same mounting holes. So any waterblock for the 1366 socket should be compatible.

I bought an old Dell Optiplex 380 system refurbished from Dell for about $80 with an E7500 Intel core 2 duo processor and upgraded it to a Xeon E5430 for about $20. The cpu benchmark went from about 1800 to 4000. The Dell Optiplex 380 uses DDR3 memory, so the Xeon gets an additional boost there. I also downloaded a modded Dell bios that supports the Xeon functions on the 775 motherboard at bios-mods forums for free. Great little computer to play older games in Windows 7. Next I will be updating this system to Windows 10. It came with Windows 7 Home Premium OEM installed by Dell.

So for little cost you can play around with older hardware and make it do things it wasn't originally designed for.

I am trying to buy a cpu cooler for my i7 920 cpu. Will a 1366 socket cpu cooler work on it or does it have to be an lga 1366 cpu cooler. are 1366 and lga 1366 different or the same thing?

A:Solved: 1366 socket

They are the same thing. I think LGA1366 is the official name, but there isn't a socket called "1366", so there's just no point using the LGA prefix normally.

Hey I just bought a new Intel Core i ghz mb cache CPU and a P T socket motherboard I put it all together made sure all the connectors fans power was attached to the motherboard First time I turned it on there was a small blue spark fried? i7 1366 + CPU mobo socket New where the heat sink is furthest from the CPU I decided to take out one of the pin PSU connectors off the mobo you know where you can either put one pin or put two together to make pin connector and tried turning it on This time it actually started but CPU fan was going very slow and no more than seconds later smoke started coming from the PSU fan connector on the motherboard I turned it off and took it out The PSU fan connector coming from the PSU looks a bit burned melted Only thing that looks wrong with the mobo is that the PSU fan connector slot has some black stuff New 1366 socket mobo + i7 CPU fried? from the burn What should I do Any idea what might have gone wrong Do you think I fried to PSU mobo or BOTH I m afraid to mess with it anymore All help is much appreciated Thanks nbsp

INTEL Core i7-960 - 3.2 GHz - L3 8 MB Cache - LGA 1366 Socket

just wanted to ask need a really good motherboard is Intel?s DX58SO motherboard the best one out there or even better one, i dont mind if its expensive and if anyone could recommend one and which memory would be best, think of going with the Radeon HD 5870 Hexad - 2 GB GDDR5 - PCI-Express 2.0 (21161-10-40R) or would GeForce GTX 480 be better

A:Intel Core i7-960 - 3.2 GHz - L3 8 MB Cache - LGA 1366 Socket

I would suggest that you get an X58 motherboard manufactured by Gigabyte or Asus instead of the Intel. One reason is that the Intel will have a locked BIOS and not allow you to OC.

I would recommend this mobo.

As for the GPU, both the GTX 480 and HD 5870 are great. I think the 2GB HD 5870 that you've mentioned and the GTX 480 are identically priced.

Not sure if this is in the proper section but here goes:

I'm still running a first gen i7-920 on a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P, overclocked to 3.8GHz with a couple of GTX670s in SLI. Was thinking of keeping the graphics cards and SSDs and upgrading CPU to a 6 core XEON (which I would also try to overclock). Problem is that the X5650 through 70 does not appear to be on the Gigabyte site as a supported CPU BUT I've seen some threads implying that it will work with this board. Is there anyone that might be able to confirm that here?

Also, If I decide to just pick one up and try it, will Windows 7 x64 continue to run with the CPU swap or will it complain?

A:Xeon compatible?

I'm actually confused, because according to the upgrade list, the x5650 isn't on there, but it is a Socket 1366 processor, which is the socket on your mobo. So I can't say for certain, but in theory it should work.

Also it shouldn't cause any issues with your OS, since you're only changing one piece of hardware.

Hi all,

First off big thank to every one who responded on the last link.

Having had two people look at the computer which would switch off with no warning I have replaced the motherboard however the problem is still occurring.

I have now been told it is the PSU.

So these are the facts off the box it is a socket 478 for pentium 4, P4i65G.

Can anyone tell me a compatible PSU for it so I can go get one this weekend and kick son off my laptop!

P.S. Not too technical please my extent of computer hardware is turning the computer on and opening up the case to clean it!

A:Can someone recommend a compatible bluetooth card for XPS 8700

I would add a PCIe adapter card with antennas on the back: like this:
search ebay for this "wireless mini pcie to pcie adapter" and you'll find several for about $10 USD.
and then add in a mini pcie card of your choosing: I think I'd choose this one:
intel dual band wireless-ac 7260HMW WiFi+Bluetooth 4.0 PCIe Half Mini Wifi Card
New on ebay for about $25 USD.
I'd expect drivers from Intel would work without any issues, but Windoze 10 will take care of the drivers anyway weather you like it or not.

A:What socket 478 processors are compatible with my Compaq 07e8h motherboard?

I think that the Intel 845G chipset supported at most a 533MHz FSB, not 800MHz like that CPU you're thinking of buying. I'm not sure but the chances that it'll work on your motherboard are slim.

If you want to go with one with a 120mm fan then this is probably
the best bet.
It has a low enough profile that it shouldn't clash with the side fan.

A:P50: Xeon E3-1535M v5 or Xeon E3-1550M v5?

Saw your other post asking about optical drive. I got a feeling that it's either a joke or scam. 1) There's no optical drive option for P50 (of course we are talking about built-in drive, not the external one).2) There's no E3-1550M v5 option for P50.  In fact, even the E3-1535M has limited availability.  e.g. E3-1535M is available in Japan but not in US. Good luck with the 'special built' P50.

You'd think I'd be able to find this information quite easily but no, not even in several of Intel's official documents. Must be looking in the wrong place... Anyways, I'm trying to figure out the dimensions of the LGA 1366 cooler mount holes in comparison to LGA 775. All I can dig up is technical stuff. Because of certain programs I use I find that the display settings on my Laptop (Win10) set at 1366 X 768 is absolutely perfect for me.
Consequently I am/was using, (I believe), the same display settings on my desktop.
Now this is the second time after a Windows 10 update that my display settings have reverted back to the recommended settings of 1280 X 1024. This does not work or appeal to me because of my programs.
Two questions:
1. How do I prevent Windows 10 updates from altering my preferred Display settings? And why does it do this???
2. How do I get my Display settings back to: 1366 X 768? It is not one listed among the 4 or 5 that are!

Thank you

That is a bit complicated, but you could disable updating drivers via Windows Updates.

Driver Updates in Windows Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Windows tends to update to the latest driver, but that is usually a desktop driver, which can cause problems.

Right click Start - Device Manager, select your display adapter and choose Driver - Roll back driver - pick anything - Yes.

I'm about to upgrade my computer to an i7 system. Should I do another clean install of Se7en after the upgrade, or will Se7en do well at adapting to the new hardware?

A:System Upgrade from 775 to 1366

Well first let me ask you this, Are you going to replace the motherboard too along with the CPU?
If you are then do a clean install the old mobo will have different drivers and stuff do to whats on the board. This may cause problems with a new one.
If its just a CPU then pop it in and run no extra setup needed beside BIOS stuff.
I myself always do a clean install of my OS when upgrading to a new setup.

Hi Guys, am thinking of picking up the Thinkpad Yoga 260 - and after upgrading to 8GB etc - its +1100$. And the thing is it comes with a 1366 x 768 IPS screen resolution. And an upgrade to 1080 is 260$!

So my question - for a 12.5 inch is there a noticeable difference in upgrading screen? Will I be comprising by using a 1366 screen (keeping in mind screen size) - especially given all the other specs seem pretty updatedt - 6th generation chips, 520 card etc.

Thanks,
sid50

A:Is 1366 x 768 IPS suitable for a 12.5 Convertible?

I'm typing this on a 15.6" 1366 x 768 screen and it's good enough for me. I've watched some films on it and the picture is fine for that.

It would be even better on a 12.5" screen so I think unless you will be doing something that really needs a higher resolution save the 260$ and get the lower resolution one.

One thing you could try is go to a shop that sells a good range of laptops and see if you can tell the difference between the resolutions. Best test would be if you could see similar resolutions to that Lenovo on the same screen.

Since reinstalling Win10, this is the first time I sort of completed a full backup. I had failures with restoring my computer and I had several errors when trying to create backups using SyncToy, Backup & Restore, AOMEI Backupper.

Before running Reflect, I ran HD Tune Pro. I got a warning about 26 defective sectors.

Early this morning, I finished setting up the initial and first-run backup, after creating a successful (or so it says) Rescue Disk (CD).

Up front, I have a list of VSS errors from Event log. As I said, I can't tell which caused the failure and why I have a white x in a red circle:

I appreciate any help I can get with interpreting this. I am surprised that Macrium doesn't have a solution and the links to Google do not show one either. Am I really surprised? Yes and No. Everybody here loves it.
Thank you.

A:Upgrading my Lenovo B51-80 1366 X 768 screen to a ...

Hi Ashish,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

The B51-80 supports a Full HD display. You can order the necessary parts from Lenovo.

As per the Hardware maintenance manual below are the Full HD lcd part numbers:

FHD FRu - 5D10H15380
FHD FRu - 5D10J45879
FHD FRu - 18201585

If you could able to do it yourself then it?d void your warranty.Maybe consider sending it back and re-ordering it with a FHD panel? Hence, for better hardware assistance, please visit the nearest service center

Let us know how you get on.
Regards,
Shashi

Hi,

I'm new to this forum so very grateful for any help...

I'm trying to wire up a Cat5e to Cat5e wall socket extension and I'm a little confused...

I need to connect a machine in room A to a router in room B. Presently I have a very long Cat5e cable to do this. I've just run a length of Cable through the wall, with a view to terminating both ends with Cat 5e panels (to alleviate the need for a really long cable trailing across the floor).

However, I'm unsure as to how I wire up the insides of the panels. Should I wire them up straight through or crossed-over?

Thanks indeed for any help!

MD

A:Cat5e Socket to Socket extension

Straight through. Plus you need to either wire it up under the 568A or 568B standard. Just pick one and wire up both ends the same way and you'll be fine.

I am using a TCP/IP - Acer Lan ALN 201 PCI ethernet adapter. The control panel, system , device manager says everything is working correctly. I only have one problem. When using a program called paltalk, I am unable to upload or download .jpeg files. I get a message that says "socket error on non socket". I am able to view video in this program, but am unable to send or receive pictures. I properly opened the correct ports on the router homepage. I am hooked to the net via a Lynksys router. Any suggestions? Is this a hardware problem or a software problem? haven't seen it before. Thanks.

i have just ordered 64gb of ram for this beast of a mobo!

Will i need more than 64gb for dx12 when it comes out ?

A:Tyan S7002AG2NR Intel 5520 1366 x 2 Motherboard help

What does onboard RAM have to do with DirectX. Assuming DX12 means DirectX 12. Shouldn't you be more concerned with what Video card you are going to use? A quick Google shows that board as only having 1 PCIe x16 slot, so no SLI or Crossfire for you I guess. Nice board by the way but isn't that a bit of overkill for a desktop gaming PC. I assume gaming as you mentioned DX12, or are you into video editing or something similar?

As long as the case and the motherboards are both complying with the ATX standard then they will probably fit.

Learn how to install a motherboard first, go to youtube and look up a video or something.

I dont have the same motherboard so i cannot possibly make a drawing, but on the newegg page that i showed you, there is a picture of the motherboard.

Hey guys,
I'm sorry to post yet another thread about this problem, but having gone through all the ones posted (and resolved) so far, I'm convinced my laptop has developed some other problem than the ones people have listed so far.
Basically, what happened is that my Lenovo Z580 laptop (15.6 inch screen) running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, which usually runs at a screen resolution of 1366*768 suddenly switched to 1280*800 following a system restart. There is a vertical black bar on the right side of the screen, and there is no option to increase the screen resolution beyond 1280*800 (I am currently using 1280*768, but it's still terrible). I have updated my graphics driver several times now (Generic PnP Monitor, Intel HD 4000 Graphics), but to no avail. Anyone have any idea what might be wrong with my system? Would a system restore help (the problem started after I restarted my laptop following an iTunes update)?
Any help is much appreciated!

A:Can't change screen resolution back to 1366*768 on Windows 7 Ultimate

Do you have different options available under the first tab labeled Display? Is it showing the correct type or is there something else there?
Try clicking detect and see if anything changes in the display description.
You say you installed drivers for a generic PnP display, that is not what you have. Maybe download the driver from Lenovo website for that exact laptop model.

are there any major differences? is the 754 more unstable compared to the 939?

cos im always gettings performance issues with games on my pc (ive got a 754 amd athlon 64 3400+) i dont know whether it could be the cpu or something else?

is there much point in upgrading my cpu to 939?

thanks a lot.

A:socket 754 compared to socket 939

I don't think it is that simple really.

As far as "stability" goes, 754 and 939 are probably not all that different. What is more important is the chipset on your motherboard, ram/motherboard compatibility etc.

The main advantage of 939 is that the newer AMD processors are made ONLY for that socket type.

You ask if there is a point in upgrading your cpu to 939. You would have to upgrade your motherboard first to be able to accept a 939 cpu. I appologize if that is information you already know, it just didn't sound like it in the wording of your question.

Now, as for your performance issues, if you want we can take a look and try and find the cause. I'd recommend starting a new thread and list your complete system specs with as much detail as possible, also detailing the problems you are having.

Xeon E3 or i7??? I have asked this question before but that has been some time ago. I am needing a good cpu that will be used for video editing for up to 4-5 hours a day. I know a Xeon is made for 24/7 use and comes from a better dye so I was wondering what people's thoughts were. There will be no overclocking so don't go there. Thanks.

A:Xeon E3 or i7

Its going to depend on the chip of course, but I would say in general an i7 would be the better option. If you go with a 6 core 12 thread i7 you will have a very nice video editing machine. Thats my opinion, its in reality going to be up to exactly what your needs beyond just video editing will be to decide what is a better idea.

I have a question about Xeon processor's, would it be more efficient to run 3 or 4 processor's in a server, is it better for them to work in tandem?

A:Xeon processor

Unless you're going to be running a file server for 100 or more computers using it heavily, I wouldn't go over 2 processors (Athlon MPs aren't extremely expensive, and do the job well). However, I'd set up the network as follows for 50 or less computers:

Dual Processor (doesnt have to be fast) Domain Controller

Dual Processor Domain Controller back up (very important -- it would SUCK to lose all your user names and domain information, and remember, downtime reflects poorly on you)

Dual Processor (faster then others) File Server
And add File Servers as needed. This set up is cost efficient, and if you use RAID 5, you wont lose data if one disk drive goes. You keep the File Servers seperate from domain controllers, and keep everything running well.
So, to answer your question, NO, I do not think anything over 2 processors is needed.

I would still get a AthlonXP... AMD64's are still to new and expensive, and Dual XEON's are wayyyyyyyyyy to expensive and will not give you any noticiable improvements in gaming.

Untill amd64's get established, if you really want a dual cpu system, get a Dual Athlon MP one, they are far cheaper.

It's got a dual xeon motherboard but he only uses one processor... when i had the chance of working on this system, it seemed REALLY fast. it could be that he had a SCSI drive that spun so fast you could hear it grind, or it could be that he did't have all the clutter on it and was running windows NT 4. but like i said, it was REALLY fast. i'm just asking for some thoughts on this because right now (besides the INSANE cost for a dual xeon motherboard) it seems like a viable option. thanks!

My question. Is it possible to replace it with, like a 2.8 GHz Xeon processor? Would the performance be that much different? Would it be worth the extra cost? Or, should I just go for a regular P4 processor to replace it?

Hi all,

I want a pc to use as a testbed at work, and will dual boot it with a server OS and XP Pro.

I was thinking of a EVO W6000 DUAL XEON 2.2GHz because i can get a refurbed one for 140, or
a Core2duo based rig (probably E2180, then OC it) which will mostly likely cost me double that.

Now, it is only a test rig, but i'd be insterested to know what you guys think will give greater performance out of the 2 rigs.

If i had a E6400 v dual Xeon 2.2, which would you favour (just comparing approximate like for like clock speeds here)

Also, would you recommend dual boots from the same hdd, or separate installs on separate hdd's. If separate then i may struggle with the EVO pc.

Thanks for any advice.

If you all you are after is raw performance, then those Xeons in there are ancient (based on the first P4) and even a single Core 2 core with modern RAM can probably do faster than those two Xeons together.

Hello jmeader,

Congratulations on your new son.

Yeah, you will just need to have some good thermal paste between the heat sink and CPU. Artic Silver paste is a good one to use.

Be sure that both surfaces are clean, and only to put about a small pea size bubble of paste on the center of the CPU to smash flat with the heat sink. You do not want paste to squeeze out of the sides an get on anything else.

I do not know too much about the differences of the two architectures, but from the basic info you provide, it seems the dual core option will be much better due to the massive clock speed difference. Also, the 2x Xeon is probably using an obsolete chipset that may not compete well with the dual core setup, therfore being a lesser performer.

From the little I know about the Intel Pentium D, they function in a similar fashion as a real 2x cpu setup.

A:P50 Xeon 1535 availability in the US?

Knldge,

I checked with the product manager for the P series and wanted to pass along the following information:

The 1535 is available in the US, but it?s not showing on the US website for Lenovo.com.  The product manager has sent a note to that team to get that CPU posted on the site so customers can build with it. Rather than wait a few days, feel free to call in and work directly with a Lenovo representative to spec out a 1535 system. In the US, you can reach Lenovo sales for ThinkPad Mobile Workstations at 1-855-253-6686.

A note about alternate Xeon processors which I wanted to make available for other customers considering the ThinkPad P50 Mobile Workstation:

Lenovo does not offer the 1545 or 1575 on P50. This is because both of these CPUs are paired with the Iris Pro graphics which requires a different thermal assembly than Lenovo designed for the ThinkPad P50.
While those CPUs are slightly faster (0.1GHz) than the CPUs paired with Iris graphics (P530), the trade-off to accommodate the bigger TDP didn?t make sense as the vast majority of Lenovo customers ask for discrete graphics and really don?t want/use the Intel integrated graphics in the first place.

I hope this information assists you with your purchasing decision.

Sincerely,

Hi everyone. I know on the desktop I prefer AMD over Intel. However I am going to be building a new box for a server, which will mainly be doing streaming media, audio encoding, etc. My options are

Dual Xeon 2.4 GHz with Hyperthreading
Dual Opteron 240

Just wondering if anyone has any opinions/experiences with either?

Thanks

-Mark

A:Solved: Xeon vs Opteron

Guess this is actually solved myself. I was going to go with the Opteron after reading a lot about it this morning, but then I remembered that some of the software I use is precompiled, and does not have sources available....so I couldnt compile it for the 64 bit.

Oh well, I'll go with the Xeon and it will be good.

Thanks

In 2015's I've purchased used Dell T7910  with one Xeon E5 V3 processor.
Want to upgrade CPU to two E5 2667 V4. Will it work on my Dell Precision? Need to upgrade BIOS?

Has anyone noted a Xeon being reported as a Pent III in Belarc Advisor?
Reading cpu as 2.40 gig Intel Pent III,
8 kilobyte prim mem cache
512 kilobyte sec mem cache

I can't even find a 2.4 Pent III chip

Anyone built a Dual Xeon system with Supermicro P4DP6 board before? It will not even power up at all on Supermicro, but runs fine on a Gigabyte 8IPXPR-C. According to Supermicro, a special Supermicro dual xeon Power supply must be used for it to power up. Anyone know if this is true? I don't want to go through the hassel with returns if this is bogus.

I have a Pentium II Xeon 450 CPU, 1MB cache. Basically, I just want to know if it will work on a motherboard that normally uses regular CPUs (non Xeon).

More specifically, I'm using an Abit BE6 board that has a PII 350 in it. Would I be able to take out the 350, pop in the Xeon, and expect it to work?

Thanks for the help.

A:really easy PII xeon question.

Sorry apparently not, the xeon processors need a slot 2 motherboare, the be6 is a slot one. From what I can read it is not compatible with the 440bx chipset either

The Slot-2 interface features the 330 pins the Pentium II/III Xeon processor plugs into,
unfortunately this is a considerably longer interface than the 242 pins of the Slot-1
interface the Pentium II/III processor uses. With the Socket-370 Celeron converting it to a
Slot-1 motherboard wasn't much of a problem and wasn't that difficult to imagine since the
Celeron was originally designed for use with Slot-1 motherboards. The Xeon wasn't. http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=972

At the Korean Lenovo store, although xeon 1575M CPU is available in many other regions, they aren't providing configuration option for Xeon 1575M. although 200Mhz of clock speed difference is not high,it seems to be a mental obstacle to make a purchase for now.Why it is not available now? When will it be possible to buy P70 equipped with Xeon 1575M?

i have a intel xeon quad core processor, and i have built a system for it, the system works fine , boots windows regularly, but when i run cpu intensive programs such as video editing (Vegas 8.0) or photoshop it will start to lag other programs like the internet, and even windows itself, i have never set up windows for a quad core cpu, is there any special tweaking that needs to be done so it can run more efficiently? Better multitasking.

sys specs
intel xeon 3300 2.66ghz per core x4
4gb of ddr2 ram
512mb 8800 gt
currently installed is windows xp 64bit.

what do you guys recommend? im sure these programs cant really be maxing out on the power of this cpu?

i have never really built any systems with quad cores or even dual cores so i am unsure of the steps nessesary to make the cpu compatible with it, tweak it.

thanks in advance, Fang_x

XP 64 bit is picky with it's compatible software and drivers. What motherboard are you using?
