Timeouts & Other Network Issues

Q: Timeouts & Other Network Issues

So this thread is probably going to have a lot of information on it Timeouts Other Network Issues & but please don Timeouts & Other Network Issues t be discouraged I really really need help with some issues I ve been having and if someone could solve this for me that would be amazing So I ve been experiencing timeouts It seems I get timeouts whenever using Timeouts & Other Network Issues some sort of wired connection If I used an ethernet cable connected to my router I would get timeouts in several applications such as Minecraft and Teamspeak If I used Wireless I was fine So after lots of troubleshooting I couldn t find a fix so I ve been using Wireless ever since Lately however my wireless has been unusually slow not for everyone in the house just for me So what I did to solve the issue is I setup a D-Link DIR in my room to act as a Wireless Access Point I now get slightly faster speeds and bar connection rather than the bars I was getting previously Now I thought I wouldn t get these stupid timeout errors when connecting to this Wireless Timeouts & Other Network Issues Access Point turns out I still do On Teamspeak for example I will be talking to people and everything will be completely normal I won t lag or anything and then BOOM I get disconnected As I said no lag no warning I just get disconnected It s almost as though my router is randomly cutting me off So what I thought I d do was replace my primary router BoB Lite with the D-Link DIR and then use Wired connection because I assumed that the BoB Lite was causing the timeout issues Now I can t even connect to anything wired I must have changed a setting when troubleshooting or something But now I can t source internet from my laptop ICS and I can t connect to my original or new router wired The only way I can currently get internet is by using the DIR in my room but I still get timeouts when using applications such as Minecraft and Teamspeak So yeah multiple issues Firstly if I could just solve the timeouts then that would solve everything I could continue connecting to the modem in my room and everything would be fine OR is there a way I could someone reset all my network settings that I may have messed up when troubleshooting As I can no longer connect to any modem with a wired connection not even the DIR which could have solved the problem If anyone could help me out that would be GREATLY appreciated This is a really annoying issue and I ve tried to troubleshoot it myself for ages now but with no luck IF anything in this thread doesn t make sense to you please tell me and I ll gladly explain myself Additional Summarised Information My primary router is a BoB Lite my ISP is iiNet The modem in my room is a D-Link DIR I m using a NetComm N USB Adapter to connect to Wi-Fi I m using Windows Ultimate -bit Thanks very much Innug nbsp

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

May I ask which ISP you use. I use Rogers, and I have noticed here and there, I will get constant 404's where refreshing a few times fixes the problem. But a few hours later, the problem corrects itself

A:WLAN Internet connection issues, timeouts (WinXP works, Win7 not)

Hello real, welcome to Sevenforums

Wireless works fine on my computer and most others. So I would guess the problem would lie just with your particular set up. What I mean by that is, it could be anything from your particular hardware (incompatible, for example) to programs installed on your computer causing interferance (viruses could do this as well). And pretty soon here, you're going to be needing that IPv6...

What antivirus do you use, and have you updated it/scanned your computer? Look up this and see if there is anything you have not yet done: Internet Troubleshooting Guide

Is your adapter compatible with Win 7? Have you tried another wireless adapter on the Win 7 computer to see if it works or not?

I'm using Windows XP and have a dsl connection. If I take too long typing an e-mail message I get logged out and the message is lost. Same thing happens in Word; if I have to stop in the middle of creating a document and don't return for a few minutes, I get an error msg. and have to close and start over. It's pretty frustrating. Is there a way to change the allotted time on either of these or what?

I have been trying to download a new version of McAfee Internet protection suite ... the file is 48M ... my experience has been it downloads about 8 megs, stalls and after some time it begins again at about 2M ( I assume this is some sort of check point) This was repeat the amount downloading before timing out ranged from 5M - 23M. Eventually McAfee stops process. BTW I spent 1 hour on the phone with McAfee but got no relief and I got the feeling I was brushed off in the end.

My question: is there someway to eliminate this timeouts or at least get a Vista error number that will give an indication of what to do.

Thank you ... Bruce Galway

Lately I've been getting timeouts amd '404 Not found' errors with both Firefox and IE. It's gotten to the point that this actually happens more often than successful accesses. It happens more on Firefox than IE but it occurs often on both. This behavior began all at once but I can't tie it to a particular action on my part. I'm running Windows 7, Firefox 15.0.1 and IE9. I scan often with Spybot and Malwarebytes. I've also downloaded and installed Adaware but the scans show a flash page and then goes away and no scan is performed.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Button, select Immediate Notification, and click on Proceed. This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster. NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer. NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions.I need to get some reports to get a base to start from so I need you to run these programs first.-DeFogger-Please download DeFogger to your desktop.

Hi all! I have been scouring the net loooking for some help with a problem our company is having.
We have our own smtp/pop3 server setup in house. We are using Dyndns' mailhop service in order to control spam, and it works! When someone sends our domain an email, it is forwarded to their servers, scanned and then forwarded to our server.

But lately we have been receiving our emails anywhere from one to several hours late. I looked at the headers for a bunch of messages and they are getting from point a to point b in a timely fashion, but from point b to c is the problem.

When I contacted Dyndns' tech support, they stated that their logs show that there were connection timeouts when trying to contact our server.

My question is how to troubleshoot this problem and find the point of failure.

Thanx in advance!

Hi,
I have a wireless lan setup. Everything work well until I connect (ssh or telnet) from a laptop to PCs on the lan. The laptop is a powerbook g4, get to the lan through airport client. PCs are on the network through ethernet cables connected to the router ports.

The problem is that after a few minutes a successful connection was made, the terminal session would freeze. In such a situation, I have to wait for quite a few minutes before making another connection.

There is no such problems between PCs.

What's wrong?

how long does the session remain active? can you issue a few commands to the remote, like DIR /S *? this should create a large result. I guess the session is being terminated by the remote-end. SSH client will report this fact so try it instead of Telnet. (btw: good admins should disable telnet access for security reasons!).

I have Norton Antivirus 2002 and use Microsoft Outlook Express. When I am e mailing a large file Norton's outgoing virus scan usually gets interrupted and sometimes the message never gets sent. Norton Help said the ISP timeout is to blame because it takes a while to send. Does anyone know how to lengthen the timeout on my ISP Earthlink? I am using dialup. I like the outgoing scan because I know my e mails are clean, would like to keep that option on. Thanks

A:Norton and Outlook Exp timeouts

Ah Norton. I would turn off the outgoing scan since you use a dialup connection. If you keep your Norton updated and scan your suspect e-mails' attachments, then your computer will remain clean, hence what you send will be clean. Save yourself the headache.

Hey, as the title says I'm having problems with any search function through
IE. I had IE7 installed but either glitches or a bug was causing my toolbars, address bars and taskbar to dissappear 90% of the time I launched IE7. Now its back to IE6 and mainly just the redirection and slow computer are getting under my skin.

I have Ewido, trend micro, and norton ready to be installed to do a full sweep (again) once I get a hint at what I should be looking for....

Thanks

I really can't figure out whats causing this, I have tried all kinds of things. My computer has alot of trouble staying connected to games or browsing. I am connected directly to my modem. I have tried disabling ipv6, netsh scripts, vista anti lag, swapping cables, nothing. Its the exact same problem and its unshakable.

My pings look like this. I can ping my computer with no timeouts. The request timeouts usually kick me from games or keep pages from loading.

A:Vista Ping Timeouts

The pings don't really tell you much since they only indicate that a response was not received for some, but not why. The web sites could very well be responsible.

What does the ISP say about it?

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.
DSLReports

Here's also the Line Quality Tests FAQ to help you understand the results. This will answer some questions about the line quality display.

I am using a USB modem in 32-bit Win7. It works fine for browsing etc, ping, nslookup. But tracert reports a timeout for everything but the final hop. It makes no difference if I turn off Windows Firewall.

If I put the modem in a router connected to the PC, then tracert from the PC works fine.

Also, if the modem is plugged into an XP PC then tracert works fine from that PC.

How can I get tracert to work properly on Win7 USB?

A:tracert timeouts on USB modem

I have run a packet-logger to analyze traffic on the USB modem. It shows that tracert is sending out ICMP type-8 records, and that the remote hosts are correctly responding (within the timeout) with ICMP type-11 records, but tracert is reporting on only the final type-0 record received.

I have also checked the content of the type-11 records, and it is consistent with the type-8 record sent out. Indeed, the Win7 tracert has fixed some endian-bugs evident in the XP tracert.

The program "ftrace" shows the same behaviour.

I have tried disabling all firewalls, anti-virus software, running as Admin, and opening up User Access Controls.

Any suggestions?

Hi
I'm running on a t1 connection behind a dell powerconnect 2324 switch
for some reason all the computers on my network get random timeouts and we need to refresh like 20 times before we can get to a webpage.
Any ideas?
Thanks

A:random timeouts, very annoyed very lost

If all the computers have the problem, it sounds like the switch or the T1 service.

My internet is fast BUT at random moments my evey 15min comcast. Timeouts on connection seems to go to mbps for like a second but this can prove to be disruptive while watching movies on-line gaming MSN and etc It would cause the movie to freeze and force it to rebuffer it would disconnect me from on-line Timeouts evey 15min on comcast. games and it would sign me off MSN This problem can happen once every mins or once every hours It is very random I ve called contacted techs numerous times but they have failed to discover the problem i m pretty sure it s nothing wrong with my comps one is brand new i ve done several virus scans and swapped the ethernet between my laptop and desktop but both have the same problem it is very recent but quite frequent and it isn t very noticable during casual browsing but frusterating when doing any online gaming I play a variety of games so i dont think its something wrong with the servers i try to recycle my packets too but that doesnt help i had a ping test with bytes up to to google x back to back and heres the results Also If i ping a website and just let it run I can clearly see the timeouts happening when they do And its always in a row when it happens first scan pings ok scan two sent recieved time out lost loss rate min time ms max time ms avg time ms avg ttl scan three sent recieved time out lost loss rate min time ms max time ms avg time ms avg ttl the time outs are spread out and quite random one would be at ping and another ping etc the time outs also are fairly subtle but very annoying and seem to intesify or stack more during gameplay never used to happen at all but as time progresses it just keeps getting worse i ve talked to a few comcast reps and they all seem to be just stabbing in the dark and not sure of the problem One of them just blamed quot blizzard quot and said game servers are to blame also i did a cmd test to www yahoo com and traced it into notepad and heres the results Tracing route to www yahoo com over a maximum of hops Request timed out Request timed out ms ms ge- - -ur dalecity va bad comcast net ms ms ms te- - -ur lakeridge va bad comcast net ms ms ms te- - -ur lakeridge va bad comcast net ms ms ms te- - -ar capitolhghts md bad comcast net ms ms ms te- - -ar plainfield nj panjde comcast net ms ms ms ms ms ms xe- - - edge Washington Level net ms ms ms ae- - car Washington Level net EDIT I would also like to add I am a comcast technician If I were called in for a service call on this issue I would think the person is lying or something is wrong in their software The modem has ideal signals both up and down stream All of the lines are in perfect condition and I have checked every connection in the system from the tap to the modem and they are all still in perfect shape I installed the lines myself and used solid copper rg so I know for sure my lines are way better then whats needed to run comcast internet So its either a issue with my modem which is getting old or its an issue somewhere in my software I recently reformatted my harddrive So something may have gone wrong in the install nbsp

I am left to believe that this is a problem on my laptop as my other devices (iphones, ipods, etc) have no problem with the internet, this is on a wireless signal and i'm in the same room as the modem/router. The internet runs fast when it isn't timing out its like it just cycles through periods of great connectivity to periods of unstable connectivity relatively fast. I suspected that I may have been botted and that was effecting my bandwidth as this is a similar symptom when downloading large files(browser times out alot). Here is my HijackThis log(not sure whether to copy-n-paste or attach so I'll just attach for good measure, any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Hi Issue Random Request timeouts that happen enough to affect my connection This started several days ago and locks up webpages and game sessions often kicking me from a game if there are enough timeouts in a row Hardware ISP - Comcast Blast mb download - Netgear C - NAS Nighthawk - Hardwired at - mb DL - mb UL - Wireless - mb DL - mb UL Troubleshooting - - packet loss regardless completed) troubleshooting Timeouts Request (advanced of the time of day - Happens with the leased Comcast Modem Router as well as my newly replaced Netgear Nighthawk - Pings trace routes ping paths have been completed but they re only as consistent as my timeouts - First call to Comcast yielded a low signal so they corrected this verified on later calls that this was not a continuing issue - Comcast guy came out today and could not find an issue from my PC to the router Router to coax coax to drop connection He replaced the drop cable out of courtesy - Flushed DNS released refreshed IP disabled IPv I am happy to provide any logs you may need and I am sure I forgot a few things so feel free to ask The only thing left I can think is possibly too many connections on the node but not sure if this is accurate as I have this issue at any point in the day regardless of peak hours nbsp

A:Request Timeouts (advanced troubleshooting completed)

If drop is replaced and still have issues, it may be faulty wiring from the access point on house to the outlet. Could be bad connector in the outlet.

Did he check the connections at the tap and verify the integrity of the taps' ports?

Every time i start my computer, I am able to connect to the internet through my broadband connection, and log into msn. I can surf sites through internet explorer.

Since friday, however, firefox has been causing problems. I can open it, and surf sites for about 5 minutes before it loses the connection.

Once that has lost the connection, I.E is unable to connect. AVG and adaware can't update.

Msn stays connected, and if I use a proxy I can surf as normal, albeit not as fast or reliably as before.

I have uninstalled firefox and everything returned to normal. I clean installed firefox and everything was normal for about an hour before the problems began again.

I have scanned for spyware and adware and viruses, but everything came up clean.

Does anybody have any idea what is wrong, and how I would fix it? I don't want to be stuck on I.E forever.

Thanks

A:Slow URL-access, timeouts & gaming latency issue

Issue with your ISP? Call them and see if they are having any issues, if not, make sure nothing on your computer is using the network heavily (something like Pando Media Booster, it has been known to slow internet connections)

Torrent programs do the same thing, or can.

But otherwise, reset your modem/router, let them sit for 30-45 seconds and start them back up. See if the issue is resolved.

I reformatted my computer because after installing service pack 1 and other updates from Feb 14th my computer has been having issues getting a dhcp from my router. I have a windows 7 home premium 32 bit laptop that works just fine. I also have a ubuntu machine that pulls an address from this router and an xbox 360. From what I've read other places online it appears this is a bug with dhcp that appears some time around windows 7 service pack 1 x64. Is this update the one causing issues with the dhcp problems I'm having? Should I uninstall service pack 1 or reformat and not let windows install this? I'm a little confused as to what this problem is. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

A:Dhcp issues and network connectivity issues since windows 7 x64 sp1

I've never heard of a service pack creating a DHCP problem.

You might want to try resetting your router either by pushing in the reset button "hold in for ten seconds" or you can reset the router from the router's service page or unplug the router for ten minutes then plug it back in again.

Just because other machines can pick up the DHCP address doesn't mean it's working correctly for all machines. Routers can limp along sometimes but the functionality becomes erratic until you reset them.

Or you can try using the ipconfig commands, such as the ones outlined in the link below.
ipconfig - Windows Command Line Utility

Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L305, running Vista SP1, that locks up and freezes at random time intervals from the time the computer connects to the internet.

I have run multiple virus scans using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, in both Normal and Safe modes that have determined that the system is indeed clean of malware.

I believe the Network Adapters are the cause for the system freezing based on information found after running ipconfig /all. There are multiple Adapters that, based on internet searches, have something to do with the iP6 protocol.

Also, it is worth noting that there is an issue with the Device Manager. The Device Manager will not allow me to view Properties on any of the installed devices.
Subsequently, I can't uninstall the network devices for Windows to re-install to 'reset' the network settings.

* sigh*

Any help anyone would have would be greatly appreciated.

My website runs off of an Access Database days ago I attempted to add new records to the DB doubling its size to about mb I haven t touched the queries or anything The problem now is that when someone accesses the site it creates a ldb file and on timeouts, DB Access connection New Website. - records growing. 2003 MS added .ldb this ldb file gets bigger in size with each hit on the site The MS Access 2003 DB on Website. New records added - connection timeouts, .ldb growing. site gets progressively slower as the ldb file gets larger After only a few hits the site becomes completely unbrowsable as the database fails to respond The ldb file is locked and I have to restart the server to be able to access the database again I removed the new records and reuploaded the database The site went back to working as usual I can catch a glimpse of the ldb file once in a while but it doesn t build up and shut down the site like it does when the new db I tried adding just one new record and the database still worked properly Why is that ldb file sticking around for so long with the new db What can I do to add the new items without completly crippling the site The server is Windows and the site is coded in ASP Any help would be appreciated Thanks nbsp

A:MS Access 2003 DB on Website. New records added - connection timeouts, .ldb growing.

Are you importing the new records into the database?

I have found that importing records, expecially large amounts increases the size of my database, and that means the ldb will grow.

After your Import, do a Compact and Repair. I've seen my db go from 8+ MB back to just over 4MB after this.

I think that may help.

I have 3 machines on my home network. I just updated to a new router. Two of the machines work well and one of them has no internet access at boot. I need to disable the adapter and trouble shoot the connection before it magically functions again. I have not had any issues with this computer until now. I have moved the connection on the new router to another port and it made no difference. As I can fix the connection from WIN7, I believe that it is something wrong with the OS.

Problems like this can almost always be solved by either updating the firmware on the router or finding a better more compatible network driver for the machine. I'd need more info on the router "brand and model number" and the machines specs to help you more with this problem.

Perhaps an ipconfig /all screen shot would get us started on this problem?

There is nothing "wrong" with the OP system, it just seems that way to the less informed.

Hello, everyone!

So a little background first...

My dad's PC was loading up Windows (black screen), so I pop out the hard drive and do an error check and virus scan on my computer. Everything turned out OK, put the hard drive back in and Windows starts up.

Now, however, even though the internet connection is fine, I'm getting timeouts when trying to go to Windows Update or when updating Security Essentials. Strangely enough, I tried installing other anti-virus programs and experienced connection issues.

I also ran the drive through Malware Bytes and came up clean, so I'm not really sure where to go from here. My dad has some older software that he'd like to keep but doesn't have the original disks to reinstall, so a format would be a last resort.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated!!

A:Windows Update & MS Security Essentials Update timeouts

Are you saying that you cannot connect to Windows Update?

If not....what is the exact error message?

<<My dad's PC was loading up Windows (black screen)...>>

Are you saying that it would not boot completely...and that it halted at a black screen with blinking cursor in upper left hand corner?

What happens if you try to connect to www.microsoft.com?

"I set each router to have an internal and external address on the same subnet .."

Meaning WAN and LAN on same subnet? If so, that's certainly not good. If you were a router and was asked to put a packet for IP 10.0.0.10 on the proper subnet, and your choices were 10.0.0.x or 10.0.0.x, which one would you choose?

First thing, run FRST http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/  Then run Service Scanner http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-service-scanner/  After those two, run ADW http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/  If still having issues, then run Minitoolbox http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/ and post the results.

My laptop with Windows 8.1 will randomly be unable to detect networks (like it just can't see any of them and disconnects). THis has been happening for sometime. I factory reset it which seems to have fixed the problem slightly (like the network is connected longer). But it still dc's. I have to restart the computer to even get the internet back.

I uninstalled Acronis True Image 2015 and Eset Nod32. I installed Bit Defender and Malwarebytes premium. In the past my windows boot up would be superfast (SSD). Now everything boots up but then boot up lags waiting for the network. I uninstalled the two new programs to see if one of them was the issue but the boot up now still lags waiting for the network. I did the exact same with another wireless computer and it has the same issue only the lag isn't as bad as my desktop hardwired computer. I have no clue. I am guessing one of the uninstalls did something. Any ideas? I can restore my backup but hoping to fix this issue.

A:Network Issues At Log On

After not finding any solution, I did a complete disk/system restore. AOMEI backupper program works great, any way after the complete restore the network is still slow to boot up. This never happened before. I even did a router reboot just in case. Any ideas on what to check next?

Are you getting connected to your router? What is your IP address? Do you have DNS entries.

Start
on start search type CMD and enter
ipconfig/all in the box. What is returned for IP, subnet mask, DNS servers.

I recently got a new computer with Windows Vista (about 3 weeks ago), and since Day 1 I have had issues with the network. I work in a small office that uses a wired network, and i think it is a home network because we use a workgroup. The first problem I have is that sometimes the other computers in the network show up, sometimes they don't. The second problem I have seen is that other times, a few of the computers will show up, but not all of them. And, most recently, if the other computers do show up on the network, only some of the files are there, not all of them. I have been trying on my own for a while now to figure out what the problem is, but I really think I need some help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey all, I'd be very VERY grateful for a step-by-step for this, thanks in advance.

I have recently bought a new laptop, and would like to network it via crossover ethernet cable with my desktop, for file sharing, LAN gaming (and possibly to use the laptop's wireless connection for the desktop to access the internet).

The laptop is wirelessly connected to my dads network, but my desktop is not.

If someone could give me a step-by-step on how I could set this up, then that'd be very helpful.

It would take a very long post to explain correctly how to acheive what it is you want.

There are plenty of websites that cover networking thoroughly such as
www.praticallynetworked.com.

Do a google and you will get plenty of other websites as well.

Hey,

I just joined this forum because of a problem me and some other residents of my apartment had. However the problem always solves itself.
The essence of the problem are the following errors: Wireless Network Connection doesn't have Valid IP Configuration and problem with the driver for Wireless Adapter. There also is no way to change the public network to a home network.
Some additional info, we have 3 routers for the 3 floors. And currently only one of the residents is facing this problem (one who just moved in), but we all have had these connection problems and they all solved themselves.
I hope someone could help us, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello and welcome Gish mat some system specs for the affected machine would be really helpful it could just be something as simple as a driver for the adaptor.
In fat it is always helpful to add specs for your gear as we are always faced with the problem of asking for same and then trying to track down solutions.
System Info - See Your System Specs

Another good site for getting the specs in detail is HW Info HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download (get the right bit version) and then run it - close the right hand window and them click on the devoices for details - see my pics for doing that.

Once the device has a brand and model number we can work from there.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

First off, what make and model is your router; some routers (such as my secondary router) have a very low number of clients that are allowed to be connected at one time. It also may have some connection to how your router broadcasts (A, B, G or N) and how far away from it you are.

Please can you also tell us what OSs the other PCs are running and how they are connected.

As a general tip without knowing too much about your network, have you made sure that your WiFi card drivers are up to date? If you haven't it might be worth doing.

Ended up with a rather frustrating problem a couple of days ago regarding connecting to the net Apparently the connection decided to die all of a sudden by itself for some unknown reason and I ve been unable to connect to the net since then I ve not made any changes to anything whatsoever no recent windows or firewall updates AVG update was normal as always no major updates on that front - I was kinda just gaming a bit via Steam when it all of a sudden happened Thing is that after having checked the network card cable scanned for viruses malware done a HJT check and so on Network issues. the darn thing Network issues. still refuses to connect to the net Weird part is though that it does get an IP and is able to contact the DNS server - just that packets don t really seem to be received properly They just trickle in one packet every few seconds Sending packets out doesn t seem to be a problem I have called my ISP and they do seem to get a signal from me so I am rather clueless as to what could be wrong I cannot tracert Network issues. or ping anything past my card responds just fine so the card itself works at least Tried uninstalling ZoneAlarm as that was the only firewall I ve been using but obviously the problem wasn t there I ve tried pretty much everything now save from a total OS re-installation which I d rather avoid Thing is that Network issues. the net died like this a couple of times the day before all of this happened as well but this lasted for a few minutes only before coming back again The third time it really killed it off though Any clue as to what might be causing this nbsp

While using regular internet n i check Task Manager under Networking my max network usage is at 0.92% constant but fluctuates higher sometimes e.g when streaming a video, Link Speed is 100MB my bandwidth is 1MB. My thing is that when i run a VPN program which uses local area connection2 network usage is about 0.96-0.98% for LAN1 n about 9-11% on LAN2(uses 10MB Link Speed) meaning i am receiving about the same and a bit more speed. How if possible can i get 0.96-0.98% speed from LAN1 without using VPN program.

Think of it this way 1mb is 10% of 10mb, and 1% of 100mb.

My network card recently died. I purchased a new one. I have a D-link router so I purchased a D-Link 552 network card. I installed it and cannot seem to get an IP adress. I have tryed reseting router and reinstalling software for card. I have two other laptops and two other Iphone/Ipod devices and they all connect fine. I have looked at all the router settings and tried alot of different things. My desktop will not get its own IP adress through a ethernet cable either no matter what I do. Any help would be great.

A:Network Issues

While attempting both ethernet and wireless connections please show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I ve been getting having a weird problem with my internet connection on my laptop but issues Odd network I don t know what is causing it Odd network issues It seems like it s gotta be either Vista my wifi adapter or my router I ll be online and suddenly I m unable to surf Odd network issues or connect to messenger but my torrents keep running fine Firefox gives me an error about the website being correct but being unable to connect to it and windows messenger gives me an error about my network connection I can t even log in to my router I can ping just fine and I get a response from my router from google and anything else I try but the only way I can get back to surfing or messaging is to disconnect from my wireless network and reconnect Odd network issues My roommate s computer is wired to the router and has no issues at all The router is a dlink WBR- My computer is set to pretty much ignore all power saving features when it s plugged in and that hasn t changed in a while I haven t installed any new software in the past few days I did in fact connect a new external hard drive but I don t see how that could be the problem My computer s been running fine until last night when this happened suddenly In fact I was actually surfing when this happened nbsp

A:Odd network issues

Update:
When my connection stops working, it appears as though open connections still function, but new ones will not. If I stop my torrents and restart them, they won't work either.
Reconnecting to my network doesn't fix the problem after all, it turns out all I can do is wait it out.
I can rule out the wifi card and the router because once my connection stops, connecting to internet via modem doesn't help. I can connect to the internet, but still can't do anything with my connection.
Now what could cause this to happen?

I am trying to set up a wireless network on a desktop running windows xp. The machine was connecting to the Internet fine until I added the wireless router in the mix. After adding the router and going through the set-up for that I am unable to load websites on my browser. It is a linksys wrt54g router. The setup page 192.168.1.1 will load but google will not. I ran the diagnostic test on IE and it resulted in DNS failure and http: Error 12007, cannot make HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP connection. It says my LAN is connected yet nothing will load. Help me please! I would like to connect via wired connection on the desktop and access the wireless using an ipad and iPhone. Thanks in advance!

Having some strange issues with my network, on the wired end, Machine randomly see or cant see eachother in the workgroup. On the wireless side, many times when you try and get on the network, you will get limited or no connectivity because an IP address could not be recieved.

Not sure exactly what type or types of servers will solve my issue, but need to fix this fast and try to get my network as stable as possible.

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key:

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

Hello I have a netgear 48 port router.

My question is....
I have 1 computer that will not get on the network. I have tested the cable multiple times. even ran 3 new cables to it. still nothing. I put my laptop down there and it connects fine. then plug it back up still nothing.

I put a switch beside the computer and pluged it in and it works fine.

This has me completly puzzeled.

I have been up for 32 hours and can't get this fixed.

if you need anymore info please ask.

Thanks.

Hi:So let's see how the problem pc "views it's network connection.

From a Johnwill post on the Networking Forum
Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands.

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 74.125.45.100

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. (For Vista/Win7, the IPv4 Address)

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I wasn't sure which forum to put this in (Windows 7 or internal hardware) as I'm not entirely sure what the problem is. The problem is just what I state in the topic title, constant disconnects/reconnects. Not all the time though, as far as I'm aware it's only when playing online games(it's definitely noticeable while playing online games). However, this doesn't happen -every- time I'm playing an online game, though it does happen a lot. Other computers in my house do not appear to have any issues, it's just mine.

I realize that this is not enough information to solve this problem, so if you can tell me what information you need and I'll post it.

Thanks for any help!

and welcome to the Forum

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then:

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if foundhere's how.

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi,

I have a problem that when I joined my new tablet to the network it connects normally but it has some issues. It says that I am connected with limited connectivity. Also when doing an ipconfig /all it says that the DNS Server is 127.0.0.1 and there are no DNS Servers on the device. What could have happened is that along time ago there was a DC named exactly like my new device.

I renamed the device and still I am experiencing the same issues.

Another weird thing is that I can browse the internet easily but then when for example I go and log in to Skydrive it says that I do not have an internet connection.
Any help?

Thanks.

Hi guys, sorry if this has already been asked and answered. Here is my problem.

This only started within the last week.

1st machine = (A)
2nd Machine = (B)

(B) can see (A) in Workgroups, but (B) cannot access (A).

(A) has full access to (B)

My Printer is shared through (A), and (B) could still print through (A) right up until I removed the shared drivers off (B). Then when I tried to find the shared printer on (A) it has the same access not granted error.

All firewalls are disabled and the only thing that has happen in the last week, on both machines, is an XP update. I don't want to do a reinstall, is there any way to fix this??

A:Network issues with XP

How are computers connected, hub, router, crossover??

Try run network wizard on both PCs. If they are without a DHCP server, make sure IP addresses are set correctly and both in same workgroup etc. You almost might have to disable netbios on one.

Sometimes the easiest way is to just format, normally inconvenient, but almost always solves the problem.

Hopefully someone can help here. a PC on our network lost it's network connection. In the Network IP settings all our PC's are set to obtain IP address automatically and if I manually set these it regains network connectivity. I have checked on another PC when doing IPCONFIG /RELEASE and it release the settings & when requested IPCONFIG /RENEW the domain server re-issued an IP address so there appears no DCHP issue on the server. Also if the IP settings are made manually, when the PC reboots it goes back to automatically obtain IP address. I have a sneaky suspicionj there maybe some at large worming around even through Super Anti Spyware, Malware Bytes & AVG (paid Network version) can't find anything.....Heeellllp!

A:Network / IP Issues

would you check the status of the following services
what version of windows do you have ?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
{Services}
post back the status - started/stopped and automatic/manual
Check your Services are Started on all PCs:

COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
Computer Browser
DHCP Client
DNS Client
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Server
TCP/IP Netbios helper
Wireless Zero Configuration (XP wireless configurations only)
WLAN AutoConfig (Vista wireless configurations only)
Workstation

Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

All of these services should be started, and their startup type should be automatic (or perhaps manual).

If a service is not running, open it's properties and check the dependencies. Check each of the dependencies and see which one is preventing the service from running.

Checking the event log is also a good idea here, there may be clues to what is failing.

Hi, i have a few random disconnects with my network. Okay, first my network is setup as following: internet ----) modem ----) router(linksys) -----) router(d-link)

My 2nd router is connected to a cable that's coming from the linksys router. I'm only using my d-link router as an access point because i wanted to have internet connection for both my computer and my ps3 at the same time.

So i set up my ip configuration as follow: my 1st router = 192.168.1.1, my 2nd router = 192.168.1.2 (was .0.1 before)
subnet mask = 255.255.255.240
computer adresses = 192.168.1.3-14

so yeah i wonder why it's disconnecting because it seems fine. if anyone knows what to do, please help me! And thanks in advance!

nicely done and good posting of the config
wow: even a tight subnet mask of 240!
With that dhcp range, it would not be necessary, but it is correct.

confirm router#1 has DHCP enabled with that range 3-14 and
router#2 has DHCP disabled and the address shown is a static address.
the connection from #1 to #2 should attach to a LAN slot on #2, not the WAN side.

make sure ALL system use DHCP and none are config'd for static which would inject
a tcp error and your symptom would ensue.

Is this a work computer? Are you part of a Domain? Your network administrator may have put restrictions on internet sites. If not what is your security software? do you have a 3rd party Firewall, or malware removal program like Spybot that is blocking the web sites? Are you logged in as a Limited User?

Hi can anyone help me My network has been Network issues playing up it used to work fine all connections were seen in My Networks but now nothing is showing I used to have a full version of AVG antivirus but this was messing with the system so I uninstalled it and went for the AVG free version instead which I had previously since then Network issues my network hasn t worked My friend tells me that this sometimes happens and that some regestry files may have been removed when I unistalled He since helped me find a program that help me repair the registry which worked but for some reason my antivirus switchs off and is unable to be found I then had to do a system restore to fix the problem The main issue is that I have checked all connections and have pinged the network and all is fine no packet loss I ve checked my router netgear and on the attached devices tab it states that my computer and the my other attached devices are UNKNOWN but connected this could be the cause of the issue Does anyone know what I m talking about and most important of all Network issues can you help nbsp

I am currently running Vista home on my main PC. I have a router plugged into it.

The router is working fine (my son's laptop accesses wirelessly, and I am able to hit the net using a virtual PC that I have set up on it.)

However, my main computer is not recognizing the router and is returning an APIPA address when I run ipconfig.

I have tried to ping the router but am not able to hit it.

I have replaced the cable (even though I do not think that is the issue as I am able to access via the virtual PC).

I am unable to restore any connection.

Any ideas?

Try powering down for 30 secs and restart to see if network connection is automaticlly detected upon power up.
The past couple of days I had problems connecting to Yahoo using Explorer on my computer, daughters would connect fine, the connection would resume on power up and then be lost upon later attempts to connect. After connecting I started to go thru Internet icons on toolbar. Under the Manage Add-ons I started disabling Addons one by one. Router leds would show activity while attempting to connect, something was blocking it.
Found one titled "Research" that when disabled it allowed me to go on with business as usual. Unable to determine exactly which Research it is when I do a google search.
Manage Add-ons is the one on the toolbar that looks like it is a piece of puzzle on a sheet of white paper. Try disableing add ons one by one and try reconnecting to internet after each attempt.

My office has a simple p2p network with mainly xp computers. We have a central nas, a server (that doesn't do anything) and several computers attached.

One windows 7 computer is part of this network but can neither see nor be seen by other computers. Workgroup/homegroup are correct, i have set dns, and checked sharing in windows, and in comodo. The nas is a mapped network drive, because windows 7 can access everything after restart, but after 30 min or so it cant reach anything but never loses its internet connection.

If you open up Computer, and watch the network drive, you can watch the little red x rapidly appear and disappear as windows tries but fails to reconnect with the network locations. How do I make it so that her computer will stay 'connected' to the network.

Thanks in advance for you help

check to make sure that your network card is setup properly and that driver and settings are correct.

if you do a cmd then ipconfig the ip ur trying to access and -t
see if those packets drop

Did she go thru the network setup routine on her Laptop?

Have you taken the Laptop into the same room as the AP to rule out signal problems?

As for sharing Drives/Folders, on Windows you just Right Click on the object, and select the Sharing and Security option in the drop down window. Then choose your sharing options.
