I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,I have a Lenovo Z50-70 running Windows 8.1. The laptop is relatively new, bought in Jan. 2015.Some time ago, the original battery suddenly started to have a problem where it would say 45% available, plugged in, not charging. No matter what fixes I tried (after looking through a lot of articles, posts, comments, etc.), nothing made the battery start charging again. It always stays at 45%. Also the battery light/indicator on the front of the laptop is always blinking white. So I got a new battery, put it in hoping that it would work and charge up to 100%, but the new battery is having exactly the same problem as the original old one! It will only charge up to 45%, then it says plugged in not charging. The battery light is again always blinking white. What do I do? How can this be fixed? What's going on?Appreciate any help. Thank you very much.

A:Lenovo Z50-70 battery plugged in not charging, won't charge no matter what I do

Sounds like it may be either the charger or the charging port at fault here.  However, I have a couple of questions...1. Does the battery charge increase at all if you leave the machine turned off and plugged in, or does it still report 45%?2. Does it power on when only on battery power?3. Was the new battery a new, genuine Lenovo part? There seem to be a lot of people reporting similar issues with this model unfortunately.,156537.0.html

I purchased a used Toshiba Satellite L305-D, it did not come with a power adapter. I purchased a new power adapter but soon learned the battery wasn't very good so I purchased a new battery. I shut the laptop down, put in the new battery and let it charge overnight. In the morning, it showed 100% charged. In an effort to "condition" the battery, I let it run on battery power until it shut down, then plugged it in to recharge. It first charged to 40% when I noticed it was not charging any longer. I unplugged it, plugged it back in and it started recharging again. It stopped again at 62%. I can't get it keep charging to 100%.

The system shows that it's plugged in, but not charging. When I unplug and replug back in the battery charge light will come on for a short time, then go out. Any suggestions?

I would search their support forums looking for similar complaints. If you find a bunch perhaps it's a bad piece of hardware. I don't know your terms of purchase but I would guess there's a good chance you could make them take it back within 30 days. So I'd find out if there's some fault with that model before that time.

A:Laptop charging but charge % staying the same?

does it charge while the laptop is off??
the reason I ask is because I beleivr your laptop charger is not outputting enough power to charge the battery whuke in use.

to charge say a 12v battery the charger would have to produce more than 12v (around 14 to 16v) as well as output a higher Mah rating than the amount used by the laptop... basically.. your charger is pooped!!

Hi when I have my laptop turned off and my charger is plugged on with the plug turned on, I have a problem.

My problem is when my computer boots up in the system tray (bottom right) my laptop icon says "plugged in, not charging"... I then have to take out my laptop charger wire and then replug it, this can be rather annoying.

Is there any way so when I load my laptop it automatically recognises to charge?

I need a new battery for a laptop that is a little over three years old. The computer does not turn on at all when on battery but works fine when plugged in. My frustration is that I spent over 40 minutes on the phone with HP technical support and was rudely told that the computer, which just went off my extended warranty, was no longer supported and they would not sell me a new battery or even let me know which battery to puchase on Amazon. The computer is only three years old and outside the battery works fine so I would really prefer to to just get a new battery rather than having to purchase a whole new computer. Could someone please let me know the battery that I should purchase for an HP TouchPad Ultra book 4?

Try the below mentioned steps:1. Shut Down your laptop, then plug-off the power adapter, and then remove the battery from your laptop.2. Now, keep the Power button on your laptop gently pressed for around 40 seconds.3. Reconnect the power adapter without inserting the battery.4. Power On the laptop.5. Once you are into Windows, Shut it down again.6. Now, remove the power adapter, then reseat the battery, then reconnect the power adapter, and then reboot again. This link can be useful: the issue still persists, you may try recalibrating your laptop's battery. hi, i am writing this on my desktop as my laptop battery is discharged now so cannot power up.

i am running a toshiba satellite L300D-10Q with vista. it was my dad's & is probably about 4 years old now with original battery still installed. recently i noticed that when i had the power lead attached the power & battery led's would flash constantly & hovering the cursor over the battery icon, it showed as not charging.

i bought a new adaptor & still had the same problem.

so thinking it was the battery on the way out i bought a new one which was an alternative & cheaper just to prove if that was the problem & for about 15 mins the new one charged. then the original problem came back.

i have tried powering up without the battery installed & nothing happens.

any advice would be appreciated

I have a HP G72-b60US Notebook PC that I have had since December of 2010, and it is at 7% and when I hover over the battery thing it says 'plugged in, not charging'.

I have heard this could be a defective battery, but I don't want to have to go buy a new battery and then find out that it still doesn't work.

What could be wrong with it?
What should I do?

A:My HP Laptop Says 'Plugged In, Not Charging'

I had this happen on a HP laptop before. I found a fix online that when I read it, I thought to myself there was no way that this would work, but I was wrong, and it did work.

Basically, here are the steps that I would do when my laptop had the same problem. Clean all contacts for the battery using a dry toothbrush. Make sure the power is off and disconnected when doing this. Once done, connect the battery to they laptop and pop it in and out really fast about 30 times. With the battery in, and the system plugged in, turn on the system. Check to see if it is still not charging. If still not charging, with the system on and plugged in, pop the battery in and out of the system really fast about 30 times again. At this point is where my system would all of a sudden show that the battery was charging again.

Again, I have no idea why this worked for me, and other people that found it on the same forum that I did. If you are not comfortable doing this, don't do it. The machine I did it on I barely ever used, and didn't care if something got messed up. If this is your main system and you have a lot of data on it that you need, I would suggest backing up any data before attempting this.

Recently i noticed that my battery was not charging and i was getting a message "plugged in not charging". So i performed a solution as given on youtube and it worked fine. But i thought the problem was solved but it continued to happen after several days. Now every time the problem occurs i have to run through the same solution. It is getting really annoying. Is there any fix to this?

I currently use this fix.
Uninstall the "microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery" driver

Today, I noticed my laptop kept shutting itself down every time it was accidentally unplugged. Then, I looked at the battery and it's at 6% battery life and says "Plugged in, not charging".  I shut down the computer and let it charge for a few hours while we went to dinner, it did not charge at all (in fact, it went down, it was 7% before I left the house).  Still automatically shuts off if I unplug.   I've tried the battery test but the computer won't even turn itself on since the battery is so low so that is out of the question.

A:HP Envy Laptop Plugged in but not charging

Hi @mciaccia, Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion x360 and issues with the Battery. Here is a link to calibrate and test the Battery.  Here is a link to troubleshoot the battery on a Notebook. You should be able to complete these with the Notebook plugged into the AC adapter. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase or that need updating. If that does not help try the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery is basically the driver that communicates between the computer and the battery. There is a chance that it is corrupted. It is reading the battery level wrong, so the computer thinks the battery level is higher then what is actually is, so when it runs out of juice it shuts down.Go to Device Manager, Select BatteriesRight click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed thereClick Uninstall, at the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driverShutdown the computerRemove the battery for minute and then put it back inWhen the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.Go to Device ManagerSelect BatteriesRight click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed thereClick "Search automatically for updated driver software" Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller. I hope this helps you out. Thanks.

A:Laptop charger plugged in but not charging

Esmmy, look in the hole on your laptop where the power adapter would plug in and you'll see the silver power pin. Using a push button pen, put it on the end of the power pin and see if you can move the pin at all. Any movement on that pin means it's broken and the DC Jack needs to be replaced. Most DC Jacks are soldered to the motherboard and need to be repaired by someone experienced in desoldering and soldering.

If the DC Jack is broken, the power adapter won't charge your battery since it's not making a solid connection inside. Moving it around too much while plugged in could short something, cause further damage or even a fire.. Best to have it repaired by an experienced technician.

As in, Battery Laptop charging. Plugged not - per the thread title the battery is recognised as being present but is not charging and when the power is disconnected will not run on battery power I have come to the conclusion that it is most likely a hardware issue see below Comptuer is the one in my 'System Specs' just on years old out of warranty period I have checked the battery connections and visually all is in order I have searched and applied what appears to be a common fix for this but did not change the situation gt Disconnect AC gt Shutdown gt Remove battery gt Connect AC gt Startup gt In Device Manager Under the Batteries category right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings and select Uninstall gt Shutdown gt Disconnect AC gt Insert battery gt Connect AC gt Startup It runs normally using the power cord so I am thinking that it is an issue with either the battery or something more sinister within the computer motherboard as it was fine one moment but not the next Prior to this the battery would last approx hours and HW moniter showed it had around wear now shows wear I have never had a battery suddenly die like this but am thinking it is a distinct possiblity given the symptoms Should I bite the bullet and order a new battery and hope that this is the fix or is there Laptop Battery - Plugged in, not charging. likely a solution I have not come across Thanks in advance Tim

A:Laptop Battery - Plugged in, not charging.

Buying a new battery is an expensive way to test but it may be the only way unless you have a multi tester and can test your battery. Two hours seems like a very short time for a laptop to run on a full charge unless you are playing videos constantly.

I have had this issue with a MacBook Pro and it turned out to be a 4 pin connector under the keyboard that was faulty.

My laptop is not able to charge while being plugged in. While someone was using the laptop, it just turned off due to lack of battery. The thing is, the laptop was plugged in. So now I'm stuck with a non recharging laptop that won't turn on.

If it helps, I have noticed several times (before the actual problem occurred) that when I check the battery status, it would sometime say that it's plugged in but not charging. And the laptop seemed to be hot most of the time.

So, what's the problem? The cord? The actual laptop? What exactly could have cause it and how to resolve the problem?

I've recently had a few problems with my Dell Inspiron Laptop. It is plugged in to the AC adapter, but when I check the battery status I get a message saying '4% available (plugged in, not charging)'. This means that I cannot work on my laptop unless it is plugged in. The battery light on my laptop flickers a dim blue colour. I also don't want to buy a new battery for it to not work in my laptop either.

It also seems to get really hot when it is plugged in, and occasionally it will switch off unexpectedly. I'm guessing the reason the battery won't charge may be something to do with the motherboard and over-heating.

Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this problem?

Hello everybody,
I have the following problem:
I have an Alienware 17 laptop. When the charging cable (while attached to the laptop) is put into the socket, the laptop makes a beeping noise, and switches on - well, something is switched on.
There is no proper boot, but I can can hear the harddisk spinning. It will stay like that, until i push the Reset button, upon which the laptop boots properly.
I wonder, what is the reason for this behaviour & is there a chance that this will damage my hardware?
At any rate, I would very much like to stop this behaviour.

A:Laptop battery always at 100%, doesn't charge at all

Hi -
Samsung does make some sacrifices in order to keep the Series 9 so thin and light. The battery, memory, and solid state disk are not user replaceable.
They’re sealed up inside the laptop case, and while you might be able to remove some components and replace them by performing minor surgery on the notebook, you’ll probably void your warranty in the process.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Yesterday i bought a new battery for my laptop but it is giving me the same problem which i had with my previous battery.

So this is not battery problem.

Things i have tried

1)Removing battery and uninstalling windows ac adaptor from Device manager.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.

Nothing has worked for me so far.

I would be thankful for your guidance.

Symptoms: Dell Laptop (about 1 year old) only turns on when charger is plugged in. The second the charger is pulled out, the laptop shuts off. The laptop does not seem to charge as it doesn't even recognize a charger as being plugged in. I'd really hate to spend $150 for a new battery/installation already. It has been doing this for 1 day, since coming back from Vegas where I took the laptop with me.
Is there are fixes to this?

A:Solved: Does My Laptop Need a New Battery?? It doesn't seem to charge

Depending what type of battery, they can be pretty short-lived. If NiCad, they die fairly quickly if recharged when they are not completely dead. They need to be "cycled" and die before being recharged or they "remember" the point they are at when charged as being their new minimum and will not hold much charge.

Lithium batteries and NiMH should last a long time.

Check with Compaq for a battery calibration utility for your machine. It may be that simple. But if the battery still doesn't work right, it probably needs replacement. The chargers are almost never the problem.

I'm having a common issue I would say. Last time I used my laptop was this afternoon to watch a short clip on youtube, I turned it off right after and I remember it was at 17%, although I have the power button to shut down right away. A few hours ago, I decided to turn it and and surprised I noticed it didn't turn on. I tried to plug my A/C adapter to charge it a couple of minute but the lightning light didn't even show up. I've google'd around and found a way to hard reset it ( Remove the battery/adapter/ hold the power button 30 sec) no success still. I'm wondering if it's either the adapter or the battery is dead, as I don't have any spare of both right now is there a way to confirm it?

A:Laptop doesn't turn on/charge anymore

There's usually a small light on the power adaptor... is it on? If not, it's probably dead. Try another main lead.
If the light is on, remove the battery from the laptop and connect the power adaptor. Does the laptop turn on?
If not, try the reset again.

Hello all this is my first post on these forums, and hope you guys can help.

My cousins laptop had some issues with the os, so I installed windows 7 ultimate 64-Bit, but the issue is when I plug it in it will not charge, the battery LED says it is but the battery icon says it isn't.
Or sometimes it says its plugged in (The icon) for only a while then it says its unplugged, once I re plug it it will back to say its charging and then so on.
It actually says its charging and have done the power button hold, the Microsoft ACAPI thing in the Device Manager and nothing works. I have no clue what this is and if there is something that could help.
Thanks for the help and If you need more details feel free to ask.

a bios update is often needed when using a different battery than what the laptop was designed to use, and since you bought a generic battery, i highly doubt that Sony will provide support of any kind for it.

Check Ebay for actual Sony brand batteries (not another generic), you can get them on Ebay for 1/2 (or less) the price that you would pay in a store or from Sony

I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS.
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

I just got my computer back from having the motherboard switched out because of another problem, but now my battery will not charge. The light is on and it says it is charging, but it isn't. Should I attempt a gauge reset or something else?

It is a Lenovo y50, which I have had for 3 months. The battery needs to be unscrewed from the back.

A:Says plugged in and charging, but is not charging. Just got motherboard fixed.

If it is not charging maybe the battery is defective.
Did they gave you back the original charger?
Did they install another different motherboard which might use a different charger?
You may need to contact the person who repaired it to find out.

Hi supporter,
I buy a laptop DELL XPS 13 9350 from Microsoft store (NY) last week. But it stop charging at 80%. I have read all related topics on this forum, but my issue isn't solve. I did: - Update Window- update BIOS ver 1.4.4- BIOS > setting > general Battery Information: health excellent, 80% (Idle), AC Adapter = 45W-Power Management > Primary Battery Charge Configuration: Standard- all step here (, except (step 5 & 6).- I ran diognasis test in BIOS: everything passed. What could I do next? Thanks

Hello thambu90, i understand that your battery is not charging. Test the battery to make sure that it does not have any problems. Here is a link to a document that will walk you through the steps. Here is a link to a number to call HP if the battery does not charge. Let me know how everything goes.

I have a Hp Pavilion dv7-3180. It is about 2 and a half years old. Today when I turned it on, it said that I was on battery power and not plugged in even though it was plugged in. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, it still says it is on battery power. I unplugged it, used it on battery power for a little while. Battery charge went down to 88%, I plugged it in, it still says it isn't plugged in and battery is NOT charging, but it DID charge the battery to 100%. So my laptop is getting power and charging battery from being plugged in, but the display in the lower left hand corner doesn't recognize that it is plugged in.

A:My laptop doesn't recognize that it is plugged in.

I moved to a different outlet and plugged in there and it now says I'm plugged in. I use the first outlet every day, so either it just developed a problem or there is a problem (something loose?) with my laptop or the ac cable or brick, and when I moved it, it temporarily fixed it.

Hp Pavilion; zx5000;
got a new power cord; no change;
what to do?

A:HP laptop doesn't recognized that it is plugged in

It's very common for the power jack to break it's solder connection at the circuit board. Need to have another jack installed. Usually between $100 and $400 when you can find someone willing to do it (not necessarily a given). Had the same problem on my HP. That's why the new Macs have a magnetic power contact--no more torquing the curcuit board.

So I've updated my Lumia Icon to Win10 a couple weeks ago and it worked quite fine.
Today I've found my phone at 17% battery charge. Plugged it in and forgot about it for a while. Couple hours after - 12%! Went to the battery saver setting and saw (plugged in, not charging) message next to the battery charge percentage.
Replaced the battery - same problem. Computer sees the data from phone as usual. Tried a different USB cable - same story. Tried to charge it with a wireless charger that worked just fine for me recently - same issue. Did a regular restart, and a couple of soft resets - nothing changed. Not sure what else I can do now. Don't want to do hard reset until it's the absolutely last chance.
Any ideas guys?

Hello, My notebook DV6 7320el was overheating so I opened the computer and cleaned it (I didn't changed the thermal paste).I put it back together and as soon as I plugged the power in it turned on.  The power, wireless and charging leds are turned on but the computer doesn't boot at all and the screen remains black.  I opened it again to check if I didn't plug a cable correctly but it all seems fine. What should I do now? Which components I might have connected incorrectly?

A:Dell laptop doesn't recognize it's plugged in

Its possible the jack on the back of the laptop is broken where the adapter plugs in, that commonly happens. If thats the case it may just need to be re-soldered on or the jack be replaced. That shouldn't be a very expensive replace. But if its something else then it likely won't be worth fixing, ie. the motherboard.

Over the last 2 days I have been having a problem as indicated in the title of this post. The fault has rectified itself 3 times, but again today, it is back to "battery plugged in, not charging." As I am running the laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium; 32 bit) on the adapter without problems, I assume that the adapter itself may not be faulty.
I also have a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop running Windows 7.  Can I safely use that adapter with the Vista laptop, without causing damage to the Vista ?  If it is safe to do so, and the battery on the Vista starts charging, then it would indicate that the Vista adapter/charger has some kind of fault.
Hoping someone can give me some guidance. Thanks.

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Battery plugged in not charging. Can I use adapter from a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop ?

If the adapter has the same plug and the same or higher power rating, you can swap them.
Check to see whether the 1545 recognizes the AC adapter or whether it shows unknown (F2 at powerup).  If it shows unknown with two different adapters, you have a bad power jack or a bad mainboard.

Hi all Laptop is a years old HP Pavilion DM - ca Issue started a few months ago when laptop was shutting down at battery charging" "Plugged issue and in, at down 96% battery shuts Laptop not and when I plugged it it would charge until x and then say quot plugged in not charging quot In the meantime I upgraded to Windows and the issue wasn't solved I formatted and did a clean install of Windows and still not solved HP advised I revert back to Windows as this is the quot Laptop shuts down at 96% battery and "Plugged in, not charging" issue original quot OS for my somewhat old laptop So I just re-installed OEM Windows Home Premium SP that came with the laptop and the issue got worse now it shuts down at I also uninstalled and re-installed battery drivers didn't work I tested the battery in the HP UEFI Support environment and it passed so I can't calibrate it At this point I don't know what to do and I don't think it's a battery related issue because it never fully discharges The laptop just shuts down before Help

A:Laptop shuts down at 96% battery and "Plugged in, not charging" issue

This is battery issue, nothing relates to windows &or battery drivers, if any.

If you leave the battery plugged in all the time, with the main power on.
Sooner or later, battery will not be able to charge properly, as you encountered now.

The percentage you see may not be real, hence it may force the laptop to shutdown without warning.
There is nothing you can do, unless either get a new battery, or use it as home with main power on.

A:Laptop Charger reads "Plugged in, not charging"

If you don't use it on battery then I would say no need to replace it - its not required for the proper operating of the computer. It does provide one nice feature, if the power goes out then you can keep running the laptop and not have it power off on you and lose your data. However being less then a year old I would be contacting HP and complaining, a battery should last more then that. If HP advises a BIOS update when you talk to them then I would do it, if it breaks its their fault, but it doesn't affect the data on the drive which if you care about then you'll already have it backed up to at least one other location.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron laptop that I've had for a little over a year. All of a sudden it stopped charging today and nothing I do seems to work. When I plug the charger in, it works normally for a few seconds, then stops and says "plugged in, not charging" instead of "plugged in, charging". I've tried uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery driver and reinstalling it, but it's just not working. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. If the problem is unsolvable, how do I know if I need to replace the battery or the charger?

I bought a new adapter universal V- V and set it on V like my original charger was It worked for a while and then stopped charging although it still powers the computer So I tried uninstalling Microsoft ACPI-Compliant in, not "plugged charging" Compaq laptop Control Method Battery Compaq laptop "plugged in, not charging" from the Device Manager and rebooted nothing happened Eventually I got it charging again when I set it on V but now it seems to decide it doesn't always want to charge it like that Compaq laptop "plugged in, not charging" either So now when it stops I either take out my battery and put it back in does not always work or differentiate between V and V Is there a possibility that Compaq has a fail-safe against using third-party chargers Or could it be a software malfunction somewhere I'd like to try everything before I go buying a new battery charger Before you ask I have charged my comp with a Dell charger and it worked then again it was only once so I don't know about what it'd do in the long run

A:Compaq laptop "plugged in, not charging"

Does is says "plugged in, not charging" when battery is at 100% or around 100% like 80-90%.
Because its normal for laptop to turn off charging when battery is nearly full to let it discharge for a bit and then turn on charging again.
If battery isn't charged when it drops low for example 50-60% or lower then its a problem.
