Vista IE7 closing browser error

Q: Vista IE7 closing browser error

Whenever I try to close the web browser I am getting the error message and shuts down all others opened web browsers. Also after it shuts down, it starts all over again.

Does sombody have any idea how to solve this issue?

If you try to close the web broswer after the new is opened in this case it pop up the message to close the web application but technicly you cannot close it because web browser does not responde it.

Preferred Solution: Vista IE7 closing browser error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Disable your add-ons. goto tools enable/disable add ons and disable each one until our problem with the error stops. I did it for mine and i no longer have the error issue.
Hope this works.

Hi All

Have recently purchased a Toshiaba Laptop with windows vista premium.
Since day one whenever I shut down an internet browser window it gives thi error
Windows Explorer has stopped working -Windows is serching for a solution to the problem.
Then it says to try removing any toolbars i instaled and try again.Did this but no good.
A few days later it came up with the solution of removing Adobe Flash player and instaling the newest rev. Did this to no avail.
I have the laptop about 6 months now and this is wreaking my head. Everything else is working fine
Also i noticed that if I have a few browser window open I only get the error if I close the first browser window, I can open and close the other browsers as many times as i like with no errors.
Any Ideas will be very welcome

Thanks

About every 5 minutes my browser stops working and Vista claims that DEP (DAta Execution Prevention) is responsible. I have followed the instructions how to turn it off and have excluded Safari from DEP - but it still keeps closing down. DEP is making it impossible for me to use my computer. Any ideas?

Hello, I am using Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 and I started having issues with Spyware Doctor earlier. After a restart to my computer it would not load, I tried to download the setup and it never loaded. I tried running it as an administrator but it still didn't work.

I noticed a lot of errors such as programs closing after they do not respond so I purchased Uniblue and fixed registry errors. After that I restarted my computer again and tried to go to IExplorer to google search Spyware Doctor after a while it would close. I tried Google Chrome and it would close eventually too. Now I'm running McAfee to see if I have a virus on my computer while using my brother's computer to talk about my problem.

I'm running IE 6 on a windows ME OS.

This is some of the info I got when I clicked more details on the error message.

I get this error every time I close the web browser. I was hoping someone could tell me what was causing this and maybe how to fix it. It doesn't get in the way of anything, it's just annoying.

Also as a side note. I'm not sure if it's related to the problem or not, but I'm not able to right click on anything in webpages and I'm not able to adjust my privacy settings. When I change them they just go right beck to where they were. the problem here is that when trying to access my email, I get a page that says that cookies are not enabled. I can't change the settings, so I can check my email.

Hi and welcome to TechSupportForum.

Luckily, there is an easy way to fix this in theory. First I would like you to go to Internet Options in the Control Panel and I would like you to navigate and click Restore Defaults. You can use this picture to get an idea where it is.

A:Slow browser, IE closing, Outlook and Yahoo closing

Hi Elise,
thank you. I ended up getting rid of PC Tools Internet Security and switching to AVG Basic Free. I think most of the major problems went away.
Yahoo has stayed up, Outlook has stayed up, browser seems to work quickly, facebook didn't have floating text and pictures anymore, was able to do some posting, sent some large emails. But, and not exactly sure, IE has frozen up, but not as often. The dds program you had me run this morning froze and I had to do a hard shut off, task mgr didn't respond and the weirdest thing of all, the clock stopped. Can't say I have ever seen that. So I am not sure what exactly is going on, if it really is malware or some setting is messed up. I wasn't able to run video on a site last night. Major improvement since I got rid of PC tools, but not quite right. Sorry, nontechie.

So the other day my browser was being redirected when clicking on my search results. The browser would also shut off automatically. I downloaded MalwareBytes, AVG and SuperAnti Spyware the only thing they found was Exploit.PDF. Now the AVG components have been removed, so nothing is running that can really protect me, Ive run Highjack this so i have the log files for that. I can log into windows in normal mode, i can browse the internet, after "removing" Exploit.PDF the browser re-direction has been reduced but still occurs as well as shutting down firefox.Any help would be great. ThanksEdit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

I would try installing Avira Free, updating same...then running a complete scan.http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Anti...nload-6527.html Click on the Softpedia Secure Download (US) button.Although Malwarebytes is a good tool, it cannot find/remove everything that might cause such problems (IMO).Louis

Obvious to anyone. You have three malware apps running live at the same time. You have Avast, Kaspersky, and AVG.

You need to remove them all and install Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST.

If you continue to crash even after removing them upload the DMP file as you have old drivers that need updating.

I am using IE on Windows 2000. When I open up my browser it stays open for a few seconds and closes. Also seems to close when I click a link.

I have a cable connection with a linksys wireless G router. My laptop works fine but my desktop is having the issues.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Is it some sort of virus? I ran adaware and a virus scan that picked up nothing.

A:Browser keeps closing

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Make sure you downloaded, installed, updated and ran these programs already - Ad-aware, Spybot and Microsoft AntiSpyware. If you didn't, do them now. For more information, go to http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm

Download LSPFix http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/LSPFix.exe and run it. Click on apptoport.dll on the left window and click on the arrow pointing to the right. Click Finish and follow the prompts.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

bulletproofsoft.com (bps spyware & adware remover) - it?s rogueware (or known to be rogueware in the past) and we highly recommend that you uninstall it. Rogue/Suspect means that these products are of unknown, questionable, or dubious value as anti-spyware protection.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

c:\program files\bulletproofsoft.com\

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Hi My name is Extremeboy (or EB for short), and I will be helping you with your log.We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine. If you have not done so, include a description of your problem, along with any steps you may have performed so far.If you do not make a reply in 5 days, we will need to close your topic. You may want to keep the link to this topic in your favourites. Alternatively, you can click the button at the top bar of this topic and Track this Topic. The topics you are tracking can be found here. Please take note of some guidelines for this fix:Refrain from making any changes to your computer including installing/uninstall programs, deleting files, modifying the registry, and running scanners or tools. If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.Even if things appear to be better, it might not mean we are finished. Please continue to follow my instructions and reply back until I give you the "all clean". We do not want to clean you part-way, only to have the system re-infect itself. Please reply using the button in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Do not start a new topic. The logs that you post should be pasted directly into the reply.Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just post back here so that we know you're still here.If you still require assistance post a new set of DDS Logs and a description of any remaining problems or symptoms you may still have please. If for any reason you did not post a DDS log please refer to this page and in step #6 there is instructions on downloading and running DDS. IF you have any problems just let me know in your next reply or simply post a Hijackthis log. Thanks again and we apologzie for the delay. With Regards,Extremeboy

I got bit by the get-answers-fast malaware. Any searches in google through firefox, chrome, IE, it redirects me to what sounds like a porn site (doesn't load the site) then get-answers-fast then to some sort of site like yellowpages.com.

I have ran malawarebytes, I have done a system restore, I have run combofix and nothing has solved the problem. On some website, firefox will give me an error and close itself.

I ran Hijackthis and was unable to get a log, so here is a set of screenshot:

I upgraded to IE8 about a month ago. Everything has been working perfectly until about 3 days ago. I am running 1500/256 kps so everything happens pretty fast. Now when I try to close a window{click on the big red X in the top right corner}, it takes about 5 seconds for the window to close. I have run a full scan with AVG 9 and Uniblue Spy Eraser. Both have not picked up anything. More annoying than anything. Has anyone got any ideas

A:Closing Edge browser

I would recommend setting Edge back to factory settings to see if it can clear out any changes. Report back if the problem is still happening after that.

When I go to certain sites the internet browser keeps closing on that particular site. I've tried the site with Internet Explorer 6 and 7 beta 2. Then again in Firefox. All the browsers have the same problem. Then there's the issue of how my downloading speeds have gone down to nothing. I have DSL, but the downloading speeds seem liek that of a dial up anymore. I don't know if I may have deleted something when trying to get rid of a trojan/virus/spyware problem about a month or so ago. If anyone can help or needs more information I'll be happy to oblige.

A:Internet Browser Keeps Closing

Could you give us an example (URL) of the websites that keep closing? (Unless of course they're malicious). Also, not a smart moving using IE 7 Beta could've caused some serious screw ups.

Hi, Im having an issue with my PC where the browser gets re-directed on a regular basis. I carry out a Google search and if I click on one of the links I quite often go to a different page. The browser also keeps crashing on a regular basis... at least 5/6 times a day depending on use. Some sites seem to be blocked like this one which I can only access via a laptop.

Ive got NOD32 and it picked up a few viruses recently. I deleted the files but the problem is still there even though nothing is picked up when I ran in-depth analysis yesterday. Ive also run a Super AntiSpyware complete scan (run twice, in normal and safe mode) and nothing is picked up.

Im on Win XP and Im up to date on updates.

Can anyone help?

Hello and welcome please run these next. If you have Spybot installed temporarily disable it.Next run ATF:Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune & save it to your desktop.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All.Click the Empty Selected button. If you use Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose: Select AllClick the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt. If you use Opera browser click Opera at the top and choose: Select AllClick the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.Note: On Vista, "Windows Temp" is disabled. To empty "Windows Temp" ATF-Cleaner must be "Run as an Administrator".Next run MBAM:Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (v1.35) and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2If you have a previous version of MBAM, remove it via Add/Remove Programs and download a fresh copy.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. Alternatively, you can update through MBAM's interface from a clean computer, copy the definitions (rules.ref) located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from that system to a usb stick or CD and then copy it to the infected machine. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.Back at the main Scanner screen:Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad. The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.

A:Browser is Frezzing on Closing

hello &welcome to TSF,

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

http://www.helpwithwindows.com/Windo...p2-bootcd.html

now if you do have the Windows XP cd with sp2 please follow these steps

--------------------------------------------

performing a (sfc) system file checker

It is a scan that checks the core files & dlls of the (os) operating system and replaces them if they are corrupt or missing with the correct original version

start

#1 then select (run) , then press enter
a window will open
#2 type in ( cmd ) then press enter
another window will open
#3 type in ( sfc )then press enter
another window will open
#4 type in (sfc /purgecache) then enter / your pc will work like crazy / this helps in rebuiding the cache file (notice the space between (sfc & /)
#5 type in (sfc /scannow ) then press enter ( notice the space between the (sfc & / )

now a scan will start , have your (Windows XP software disk ready ) your pc may ask for this disc when it starts or during the scan( so you must sit with the pc while this scan functions ) , if it does then incert the cd into one of your cd/rom/player's , your pc will then reconnize it and continue , you will then have to minimize the splash screen for the cd to see the scan , when the scan is finished you will need to close the cd and all open windows , then remove the cd

you will then need to do a ( Disk Cleanup ) , then empty the caches & temp files thru the (Internet Options) , then do a defrag

restart your pc

then do a defrag again after the reboot

Ok, I foolishly dl'd somethin and opened it without scanning it first, and of course it has a virus in it. So I run virus scans and spyware scans and delete/quarentine/clean all sorts of things and such, which now my computer will at least start up without freezing but now I have 3 problems that I know of.

1. I keep getting pop ups that resize my current window, they come at random intervals and make gaming impossible as they popups minimize whatever I am doing.
2. Some things that I run randomly close, while I am usually not using them when they do this, sometimes my virus scanner will close and sometimes Firefox will just shut down for now apparent reason. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

3. At startup I get an error about an exception that occured while trying to run such and such .dll file, DllGetVersion.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I am running Vista Home Premium and have IE8 and Firefox.

In the event I get one of those malware popups that you don't want to click on (not even the 'X') how do I get rid of it? Something about right clicking on the taskbar I think or there may be a keystroke shortcut.

Thanks

A:Closing Browser window without clicking

I would think a right click on the IE icon on the taskbar would give you the option to close the browser. It does in all other instances I can think of.

If that fails, you can always click "control, alt, delete" and get to the task manager and close it that way.

About a month ago, i realized that when i opened my internet, it connected fine and everything.. but when i was done surfing the internet, the internet browser window wouldnt close. The only way i have figured out is the CTRL + ALT + DEL and close it that way. This problem started out about a week after i installed WindowBlinds. Could this be the problem?

Thanks alot.

Whenever I exit any program window, or even a simple file folder, a blank Internet Explorer brower pops up somewhere on the screen.

I have beencleaning this system off using Spybot, CCleaner and Adaware, however this issue still exists.

Any suggestions?

A:IE browser pops up when closing any folder or program

Hi Chris

This has to be malware related. Follow the HJT link in my sig and go through the whole 5 steps process. Post your final log in the HijackThis section where security techs will review it. It can take some time before you get an answer from them as that section is overcrowded, just be patient. Once they'll start reviewing your log you'll have quick feedback.

My Windows 7 32bit computer may be infected and I'm not sure how to fix it. I can't download anything and google chrome kept randomly closing. When I try to download anything it says "Failed - System busy".

I wasn't able to use superantispyware to scan earlier but now it is working so I am currently running a full scan.

Also, when I try to use Malwarebytes it tells me insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.

Both my adblock and adblock plus kept repeatedly crashing the past few days.

EDIT:

FWIW I checked windows task manager and it says my total physical memory (MB) is 3003.

Cached = hovering between 480-564ish
Available = 480-534ish

A:Windows 7 Computer can't download anything and browser keeps closing

I restarted my computer and now I can download stuff and it seems to be normal again for some reason. Not sure what happened but now I'm running malware bytes and I have to run super antispyware again because it didn't fully scan earlier.

Using Version 6.0.28 of IE.
If I close an Adobe Reader document while online, it shuts down my browser. It usually takes about 20 seconds for the browser to close after I have closed the Reader.
My "workaround" to this point has been to simply minimize the Reader, but I don't like that solution.
I am running Windows XP Home Edition on an HP box with Pentium 4 processor.
I have asked dozens of people for help with this niggling problem but as yet, no one has a solution.
Any geniuses out there?
Thanks!
Phil

A:Closing Adobe Reader shuts down browser

Please Download hijackthis from

http://tomcoyote.org/hjt

Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

After the scan has finished the "scan" button will turn into a "save log" button

save the log file and paste it here

Do not delete anything yet, as most things hijackthis finds are harmless and needed.

Hello everyone Any help greatly appreciated with a BSOD problem I've been having today After both instances when my pc had been connected to the tv via HDMI and I disconnected the projector I was presented with a BSOD after shutting down my browser Firefox In both cases the Event Viewer shows that it was an issue with Event ID and Event properties as follows EventData BugcheckCode BugcheckParameter xc BugcheckParameter xfffff f BugcheckParameter xfffff (FF) HDMI BSOD closing disconnecting subsequently and after browser be BugcheckParameter x SleepInProgress false PowerButtonTimestamp I have had problems with BSODs before but they BSOD after disconnecting HDMI and subsequently closing browser (FF) were resolved after changing the drivers of my network adapter I say change rather than update because it only let me roll back to older versions of the driver and would not let me install a new one see here BSOD BugCheckcode x D I have been problem-free since even after having formatted my PC in if I remember correctly June Thanks very much for looking and any suggestions greatly appreciated dump files attached if required edit Dump files updates as I attached an incomplete zip-file was told all had been grabbed but then it grabbed some more edit

Recently I was online and there was a popup, I went to close it and my mouse had moved and as unlucky as it was I had clicked download instead of the exit button. It downed some flash pro onto my computer that was inherently linked with some form of a trojan horse. When I'm on the internet occasionally I start to hear audio ads that don't go away even after I close internet explorer, and on the task manager it still shows IE processes running. Additionally when I start internet explorer it inevitably randomly closes in the first 5-10 minutes. Please Help!
I run windows 7 64bit.

Thanks for all the help I know I'm in great hands!
(sadly this is my 2nd virus in under a month after not having one for over two years.)

Hello this is my first post I am not very good with computers so bear Closing, Internet taskeng.exe Computer, Browser Sluggish with me I have the main problems with my Dell Inspiron laptop as described in the title The first problem is the sluggishness of the computer which has been gradually getting worse the last couple of years I can still use it but sometimes it is so Sluggish Computer, Internet Browser Closing, taskeng.exe slow it is frustrating with the RAM constantly on high it seems like CPU also seems to fluctuate Secondly - this is happening more recently the past few weeks - the internet browser I'm using Google Chrome keeps crashing saying that Google Chrome is closing It is especially problematic when watching a video It often closes after minutes or so sometimes immediately after pressing 'play' for your reference I use Hulu and Hola Better Internet so I have to refresh to the page several times when watching anything Thirdly I have recently been getting this black box that pops up saying taskeng exe - not sure what it is I have been trying to fix the problems by running all the anti-virus programmes I have but nothing has come up I have also tried disabling one of the flash drivers I think that is what it's called on Google Chrome Plugins However it has not helped I have finally tried changing the name of something called Default folder in the Google temporary files to be honest not sure what this is according to an online tutorial which seemed to make internet browsing a little faster but not much has happened overall I would really appreciate your help Many thanks

I get BSOD and restart with error IRQL not less or equal after closing browser, media player.

A:IRQL not less or equal after closing browser, media player, etc

2 attempts of moving memory to virtual memory has caused the crash.
This is because the permission to move the memory was too high.
We need driver verifier to catch the driver causing this.

Diagnostic Test

 DRIVER VERIFIER

   Warning
Please make a backup of your important files and get your rescue media or create one.
Please create a restore point.
Please follow this tutorial to run driver verifier.

Driver verifier stresses your drivers and will crash your pc if any driver fails due to a violation.

Driver verifier should be performed for a max of 48 hours, or when you have a bluescreen, whatever comes first.

If driver verifier has found a violation and you can't get back into windows normally, try to boot into safe mode and reset in safe mode driver verifier, or in the troubleshooting options open command prompt and type verifier /reset.

   Note
Your system will act very sluggishly while driver verifier is enabled, this is normal as your drivers will be being subjected to heavy testing in order to make them crash.

A:Browser keeps closing, google jumps/redirects, AVG can't update

After reading Biteys post here I downloaded MBAM. It seems to have worked, I was able to update AVG after re-boot. No jumps on first go at google.

NOTE: At the final set-up screen MBAM has a check box to get it to check for updates, I left it checked, but like AVG it couldn't conect. I sugest you un-check this option.

Here is the log from MBAM

For about a year now I ve been fighting with my home internet connection After much observing and poking around I ve narrowed the phenomenon to an awfully specific situation that closing a browser instance on my Windows Pro bit computer somehow causes the router to throw a DSL retrain error Now that s much too specific to get anything meaningful off an Internet search - hence why I m here + DSL 2Wire Retrain? browser 64bit closing router + Win7 = I d like to know if this is even plausible and if so what is going on such that I can fix it Also I m considering upgrading another computer from Vista to Win but I don t want to add another computer that hates our router unless Win7 64bit + closing browser + 2Wire router = DSL Retrain? I have to Technical details on the equipment plus how and what I ve narrowed things down to The affected laptop Lenovo X laptop OS Version Microsoft Windows Professional Service Pack bit Processor Intel R Core TM i - M CPU GHz Intel Family Model Stepping Processor Count RAM Mb Graphics Card Intel R HD Graphics Family Mb Hard Drives C Total - MB Free - MB Q Total - MB Free - MB NB - Q is the Lenovo proprietary backup and rescue partition Motherboard LENOVO CTO Antivirus Norton Internet Security Updated and Enabled NB version My current Chrome version is current as of today though this has persisted for a year and is therefore not version-dependent The affected router Proprietary AT amp T WIRE Home Gateway HG-B running what it claims to be fully up-to-date firmware The quot control computer quot my old laptop NOT affected Lenovo T laptop OS Version Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack bit Processor Intel R Core TM Duo CPU T GHz x Family Model Stepping Processor Count RAM Mb Graphics Card NVIDIA Quadro NVS M Mb Hard Drives C Total - MB Free - MB Motherboard LENOVO CTO Antivirus Norton Internet Security Updated and Enabled NB version Isolation of the problem I first noticed that the modem s internal firmware was intercepting some of my requests while browsing due to the loss of connection After a while I correlated it with closing Chrome s incognito mode I can now fairly reliably reproduce the problem - on demand by opening incognito mode go to weather com an arbitrary page that takes some time to load and closing it while it is still loading The connection drops as soon as I close the window and the red DSL error light illuminates immediately I m positioned such that I m watching the router as I click Going to the router firmware s diagnostic page shows that a DSL retrain and or retraining error occurred at the time the connection was lost Doing the same on the control computer does not result in a lost connection Doing the same on a fully-loaded Weather com page in Chrome incognito does not seem to result in a lost connection Though I think at an earlier time it did since the reproducibility of the problem has declined - during December it was near Interestingly I just noticed that doing the same in IE -bit does result in the same behaviour both InPrivate and regular instances I m stil trying to figure out if a fully-loaded page in IE results in a lost connection When I m at university there s no problems whatsoever My family says they ve never seen it behave like this when I m away and router logs seem to back this up when I ve remembered to check there s no recent DSL retrains immediately when I get home From what I ve read DSL retrains are supposed to be an upstream issue between the router and the ISP nevertheless I can pretty clearly affect things from my laptop What s going on nbsp

A:Win7 64bit + closing browser + 2Wire router = DSL Retrain?

Have you tried upgrading your modem's firmware? There might be certain bit patterns that cause it to do something unexpected. You should also ask your provider. They are able to check the cause of connection reset to some point.

Max let us see what the temps are mate use Speccy and post back Speccy - Download < download from piriform.

You may try this too

SLOTCLEANING

Now as for the slotsto clean them use a strip of old credit card about 1/2 inch wide nip thecorners off one end - preferably round them offhold a piece of thin lint free clothover the end dab on some form of alcohol - iso propyl alcohol (what we swab theskin with before an injection) is good and GENTLYswipe along the slots.

This can also be donefor the GPU slot/s.
Plus a hard drive test SeaTools for Windows | Seagate

Plus even this

MEMTEST
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.htmlthis one you willneed to make a bootable disk set the BIOS to optical (or USB if preferred) bootthe machine and let it run for at LEAST 8 passes unless the errors come upstraight away. Takes fair time to complete and some leave it running overnight. But it must be for at LEAST 8 passes unless as I say the errors come straight away.

Whether I'm checking my hotmail email, searching for jobs on indeed.com, or clicking on a search result from Google, the DEP keeps closing my IE8 and stating that an add-on is trying to use my system memory incorrectly. This started about 2 weeks ago, once in a while, but now it's everyday every couple of minutes. Can't get anything done. Any idea how to figure out which add-on is doing this? Please help! Thanks!

A:DEP Keeps Closing IE8 on Vista

I'd take a look at the add-ons, disabling all but the essential ones...and see if the problem persists.

Since all of your references involve browsing activity only...that seems logical to me.

It's also possible that IE is damaged...but I would look at the add-ons before concluding such.

Any DEP messages when not using the Internet?

Please post exact wording for any error messages.

A:Closing Narrator in Vista

It is as simple as exiting. But maybe you have accidentally set it to run on startup?
Type Msconfig in the Start and, under the startup Tab, see if you have it ticked to run on startup.

I have 4 user identities on my computer. Three of them work no problem. When I go into my user id (which is also the admin ID) it automatically reboots the computer. The computer starts up to the normal screen with the 4 user IDs on it. And as soon as I log into my ID it reboots in about 5 seconds once again. keeps happening

All 3 other IDs work fine. Whats up and can I fix it? I ran a McAfee full scan and nothing came up.

Thanks for any response

I have a new laptop with Vista Home Premium with SP1 installed
IE 7 keeps closing each time I try to change pages or click on a link.

I have gone into the IE tools>Internet options>advanced tools>reset.

This has helped to the point that IE doesn't actually shut down but states it is unable to display page. If I click on refresh the page usually reloads. But I need to figure out why IE keeps shutting down. I removed all the toolbars I had when I did the reset.

I need help to cure this problem.

I don't know how it's possible but it happened Must be WITHOUT Apps??? NO Vista Reboots WAY! Closing some new feature they never advertised but should The other day Vista Ultimate was nagging me to reboot after installing some updates I kept putting it off but finally it wouldn't let me put it off for as long In any event I walked away to get some lunch and when I got back my PC had been rebooted I logged back in NO WAY! Vista Reboots WITHOUT Closing Apps??? and things looked like it was starting up normally But then I see down my taskbar that I have three programs still open I'm like WTF How is this possible They were Outlook an Unsent Saved Draft of an NO WAY! Vista Reboots WITHOUT Closing Apps??? email and another Email which was just open My web browser windows and multiple tabs were all gone though OR WERE THEY I opened IE to begin getting my desktop back in order and get my email tabs all opened up when suddenly I saw that IE had all my tabs in it as soon as it loaded I could not believe this What's REALLY weird and I think is confirmation that something had happened was that I now had tabs in one IE instance whereas before I had two instances of IE cascaded horizontally on my quot widescreen displays each with tabs - one set was for email and one was for forums I frequent But now IE loaded up and I had all of these COMBINED into a single IE instance which btw I'm trying to figure out how to move tabs from one IE instance to another but there doesn't seem to be a way In any event I can not believe it still thus I'm posting this here to see if anyone else has encountered this If you don't believe me even I will try this again go and install some updates not like SP but some basic updates then wait to let it reboot and see what happens Regards Kevin

A:NO WAY! Vista Reboots WITHOUT Closing Apps???

Windows Vista 64 ultimate has done this to me as well. It's kinda of a feature than a problem. It opened up the last programs that were running before the shutdown. But I never had windows update reboot without me telling it to. That's a new one.

The error message saysInternet explorer has stopped workingA problem has caused internet explorer to close and so on.I just got this computer yesterday. There wasn't a problem with internet explorer until I installed firefox, then I unstalled it. I'm sure firefox isn't the problem. I installed other software as well. What should I do?p.s. I scanned the computer using ad aware, and a-squared and avast antivirus!

A:Internet Explorer Keeps Closing In Windows Vista!

Internet Explorer will stop working almost all the time cause a conflict with a Plugin or Active X...Go to "MSconfig".Click on Start > Type in "Start Search" MSconfig" (no quotes) and hit Enter...Go to the Startup tab and look for "OmniPage" and uncheck it...Go to internet options...Start > Control panel > Left side of window click on classic view > Internet options. In "General" tab, and look for browsing history and click on "delete..." Delete all...Go to "Programs" tab and click on "Manage Add-ons". Add-ons are active-x controls that change the way Internet Explorer is used. These can be toolbars, plug-ins, and other code that can interfere with the operation of IE. Select any suspicious add-on names from the name list and select disable to prevent the add-on code from opening when IE is opened. Finally go click the "Advanced" tab. Remove the checkmark from "Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart)", editAlso unchek "Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks".Restart and the error should not come back. These errors are probably caused by browser extensions that were added through spyware or adware.Maybe a look in here, and posting your log will help if this didn't.Hope it helps Mav

Follow these steps

Updating Java and Clearing Cache

Your Java may be out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 u3.
Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications". (4th one down)
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u3-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Hi,

I found your posting because it was the only "hit" on google whith the exact same error message as mine. I don't have an exact answer, but I did find a posting on the microsoft newsgroups that had some suggestions. It follows:

Subject: Re: IE6 Memory Error 8/17/2006 2:29 AM PST

By: Don Varnau In: microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser

Hi,
A third-party program, BHO, toolbar, etc is probably causing this.

Troubleshoot by disabling third-party programs, toolbars, BHOs (Browser
Helper Object) or other add-ons to IE.
Look at:
IE> Tools> Manage add-ons.
MSCONFIG> Startup.
Control Panel> Add or remove programs.
*** Turn on the Windows Firewall (from Control Panel or Security Center)
before disabling a third-party firewall.
You may have to reinstall, uninstall or update a program.

Or, you may have malware (adware, spyware, trojans, hijackers, etc.)
installed.

Other suggestions for simular IE errors were:
(
Malformed URL's of some websites. This was patched over the summer, so if you are up to date it should not be a problem. See article 899811.

Lists symptoms of malware. See microsoft article 827315.

Faulty RAM.

Other software interfering with Internet Explorer (e.g. ad blocker,
anti virus).

Empty the Temporary Internet File Cache.

)

If you want to see the newsgroup messages that I was reading, go to this address: Windows XP Newsgroups
There are two search boxes on the page. The top one is labeled "search microsoft.com", the box below that is simlply titled "Search for:". Type this string into the "Search for:" box and press the button:

the instruction at referenced memory at the memory could not be "read"

Then pick out the messages that look interesting to you.

Good Luck

Hi

I am running Windows XP Home Edition SP2 and Internet Explorer 7 and all relevant updates are installed.

I occasionally get an error message when closing IE7 and cannot find any reason for it doing this. The fault is inconsistent and does not seem to be related to any particular web page.

This is the error message that appears in Event Viewer:-
Faulting Application iexplore.exe version 7.0.6000.16915 faulting module mshtml.dll version 7.0.6000.16939 fault address 0x000a79d0

Can anyone suggest a cure for this annoying error.

Everytime I go to close IE7 it never just closes normally. it always says that internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close When I click on where it says to see what data this error report contains it says the following files will be included in this report:

C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\c434_appcompat.txt

I'm using windows xp.

A:error when closing IE7

Although IE7 is still a little buggy, this is probably being caused by some 3rd party software you have installed in IE...probably a toolbar that you may have had with 6 that is not 100% compatible with IE7. IE is notorious for loading toolbars from 3rd parties willy-nilly without really asking your permission.

When IE is open, hit ALT to bring up the program menu and then select VIEW. Got to TOOLBARS and un-check all of the toolbars and see if this solves the problem. If it does, re-enable the ones you actually want one-by-one and see which one causes the problem to come back.

You can remove most IE toolbars from the Add/Remove Programs section of Windows.

Of course, you could always just get Firefox and be done with this kind of stuff

Using windows 2000. I keep getting the following error:

"iexplore.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows"

Doesn't seem to matter where I surf to it just pops up and closes my window. Very aggravating.

Any ideas please?

Update: I've discovered that the problem lies in the file called ntdll.dll. I cannot simply delete it and replace it unfortunately. I have recently done a reformat and clean install of windows. Got all IE and windows security updates. I have no idea what could be causing the problem but it seems to be getting worse as I use the computer.

After an unsuccessful software install, everytime I close an IE (IE 9) window, it gives a popup window saying:
Internet Explorer has stopped working.
Windows can check online for a solution and close the program. (it can check and check and it never finds anything.)

While trying to access my account here at Tech support Guy using Internet Explorer this morning I keep getting the error that Internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. When I use Firefox or Opera there is no problem (go figure!) Any ideas as to what is going on? Other websites seem to work fine. Thanks again for all the great help all of you have given me in the past. You do great work and provide a much needed service and do it great!
