I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am using a very old and slow MPC computer running Windows XP.
Someone gave me [out of pity] a 3 year old E-Machines computer running Windows 7. [beggars can't be choosy].
Anyway, how can I safely get my data from my old PC to the newer one?
I am not the sharpest tack in the box, so if you can tell me how to do it in simple terms, I sure would appreciate it.
Thanks guys.

Someone else may have a better idea, but if you have a large enough flashdrive, save it all to that & transfer it.
I don't know if you could use TeamViewer for that or not .

Hey guys,

I'm needing some information that is extremely hard to come by.

The 740m in the HP Envy 17t-j000, does anyone know, or does anyone know WHERE to look (Google failed me, or I failed Google!) to find out whether it needs ACTIVE displayport -> HDMI adapters?

I question this because I know the 57xx series from ATI required active. The card only supported 1 RAMDAC signal (or something?) and the Nvidia's tech seems different. According to HP support, passive will work fine. I need to have the adapters ordered ASAP, but I do not want to order the incorrect ones.

Any assistance is appreciated.

When I bought this computer it had windows 7 on it. it ran everything lag/shutter free. I have since upgraded to windows 8 then to 8.1. The problem is the audio and video noticeably lags/shutters. As if the entire computer is pausing. I have talked to HP tech support and they only reinstalled the drivers. All drivers are current. I am fairly sure it has something to do with the HD4k graphics but I do not know for sure. I was hoping the 8.1 would resolve the problem but it has not. I have this problem whenever I watch videos (on the internet or from file) and when I play World of tanks. Any help would be great

I seen similar comments re "since upgrading to Win/8" and (imo) think the drivers are not 'fully compatible' with the new system.

Ok have you got any more threats sense you reformatted? You are behind a router and you do have your firewall up. You left them in,Buy opening the file. I doubt now that you have reinstall windows that they can get in. But to be on the safe side scan all email and do not open anything you do not know were it came from. I am running windows 7 on a laptop at work. I would like to use my cruzer micro 16GB but when I put it in it wants me to format. I have information on it that I want kept. My question is will it be wiped out if I format? What can I do? I originally formatted it on a windows vista laptop a couple of years ago.

A:If I format my Sandisk Cruzer 16GB will I lose all of the information on it?

It sounds like something is wrong with your USB drive. To answer your first question: YES, if you format your drive everything will be wiped out.
I found a similar post,, it's about an external usb hard drive, but I guess the answer applies to your problem too.

Hi all.
I have an ongoing issue which has come to a head.
I have had BSOD's recently, and while removing my sound card as a test, I checked this section of control panel, it does not display my mobo.

My motherboard is an Asus P5NT-WS SLI, NF680i SLI, 775
Is it definitely supposed to show up here, or is this normal?

I cannot run my motherboards DVD to attempt a fix, even when I physically swap to a new DVD drive. This happens with only a small handful of disks, most importantly my 2 most crucial ones: motherboard and OS. Disks load fine on mums computer though.
Also, having moved to on-board sound temporarily, it is pitifully low.

I am thinking of attempting a bios flash, but am a bit nervous.

Any help appreciated!

A:Motherboard not in system information?

Dont worry about the motherboard not showing up in system info. If the PC is running fine, it doesnt matter.

As for the quiet sound and the DVD Drive not reading the disks, you could try downloading the latest drivers for your motherboards chipset and on board sound online. That may fix the disk reading problems and the low sound. Its possible though that the 2 DVD Drives you used dont read those types of disks very well.

Edit: Dont do a bios flash. Its risky and you dont need to. I just noticed you said you are getting BSOD's. When have you been getting the BSOD's? If they are happening while gaming, the system could be overheating. Try cleaning out some dust. I highly doubt the motherboard not showing up in system info has anything to do with the BSOD's.

Im having a strange problem when im overclocking,
the cpu freq changes to random values, so does the multiplier.
It has done this with both the fox one OC utilily and the easy tune 6 OC utility
im using currently. I know they arent the true values because my PC wouldnt run at (1000mhz) for example. I dont press anything it just does it, this makes OCing
more difficult because it wont tell me the true CPU freq values.

Can anyone help me on this one?

Hi, I was looking to update my motherboard drivers and there i found update for
my BIOS. My mobo is MSi K8N NEO4 Platinum [MS-7125] 1.0. I downloaded update for BIOS, and i got 4 files: 7125 - Text document that says what is that update doing. it says: This BIOS fixes the following problem of the previous version:
- Improve compatibility problem with nVidia graphic card
- Improve stability problem when doing overclock behavior.
Im getting a new nVidia gpu, and + my system is unstable when oc so i really need this update. I also got a exe. file, and some 160. file. when i click that exe file nothing happens. Last file i got is called How To Flash the BIOS.doc. Do i have to read that file in order to update bios?? I dont understand English very well, is FLASHING bios updating BIOS?

A:How to update Phoenix AWARD BIOS v6.00PG

Unless you are having a problem that the BIOS update will solve, I recommend not flashing the BIOS. There is a risk. If something goes wrong with the flash whether it's your mistake or a power outage or something else, your motherboard could become useless. This is a risk especially if you are not sure how to read the instructions on how to do it.

Do you have a problem that you think updating the BIOS will fix?

A:Transfering hard drive information to another computer

Yes, you can remove the old hard drive with your needed files, and purchase a USB laptop external case. Install the old drive in the external enclosure, and connect it to the new laptop. The external drive should be detected and your files should then be retrieveable

Get your heatsink and fan as a package. Be careful so as to assure they will fit in the case with lots of breathing room. Zalman is our preference for the best... they offer more choices. Also like Dynatron, Tuniq, Thermaltake, and SuperMicro...
Just watch the space available so it will fit easily.

I'm looking for information on the bottlenecks of data transfer. For example, I'd like to find some kind of chart or table or something that shows different Seek Speeds, Rotational Speeds, Interface, Buffer, etc. and what the potential problems problems are when transferring video, images, etc.

All this is coming from a need to purchase a particular external hard drive so I'm trying ramp up my knowledge base again. I've heard that there are some nice charts like that out there but I can't find any.

Can anyone point me to a link or something?

Many thanks,

A:Information on Data Transfer Issues

Those things aren't really relevant with todays drives... consider 5400 rpm vs 7200 rpm vs 10,000 rpm... then get the largest cache buffer you can find.
They usually come in 2 mb, 4 mb, 8 mb, and 16 mb buffers.
You will find some charts on the websites of Seagate, Maxtor, Western Digital, and Samsung.
I recommend you stay away from Hitachi, Tri-Gem, Fujitsu, and Maxtor due to reliability features, and their high failure rates from relatively small lateral impact on an external drive. In fact, i would get only a Seagate or Western Digital with a 16 MB buffer.

Dual Mobo information?

Anyone around here know of a web site where I can find information about doubling up motherboards, and the respective hardware?
I am basicly aiming to make an experimental computer with 2 linked motherboards. I like to start with single prosessor boards and eventually move to dual CPU boards. Yes I know there are 2, 3 , and 4 CPU mobo's on the market but they are to expencive for my budget at this time. Besides, the therory behind duel motherboards is to pool and share motherboard resources/CPU's and hardware.

Any and all information would be very helpful. Thank you.

A:Dual Mobo information? Clustering motherboards?

You can always go on Google & do a search on Clusters.

Unplug then reseat your graphics card... While you are at it, write down all the info on the card.
Then go to, to download and install the latest Belarc Advisor. Then run it to get a report on what it detects.
Now at boot up, check your BIOS to see what it reports for Video Graphics. Also go to Start->Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager to see what the Device Manager reports as detected... and note whether there aae any yellow or red flags.
Download the drivers from ATI or your computer manufacturer for that detected device, then remove or disable the drives you find, and install the newly downloaded ones.

I did try to format and the bar graft completed format to a RAW state but now it will not allow it to be reformatted in fat, the file stuctures are still there and viewable. one file has like wing ding letters so I assume it maybe a propriatary OS or information.
I would like to reformat this card please...HELP

I was just wanting some information on why a lot of the motherboards now say that they cannot support 3.3v agp cards?

is 3.3v agp a new or old technology?

Also, I wonder if anyone could tell me: when installing a motherboard I notice that on the cases now days there is a raised metal "mound" where the motherbord screws in, and I want to know is it necessary to use the little plastic plugs that screw it to sit between the case and the board, or can the board sit straight on the raised mounds? The reason I ask is that with the new board I have, it will not line up with the backing plate if it is raised up - therefor if you put the plastic plugs in the board is too high for the backplate.

Any info on these points would be greatly appreciated.

A:information on motherboards and 3.3v agp cards

I can answer your question about the AGP volts. Most mobos that support AGP slots only support AGP 4x/8x. The 4x cards use either 1.5v or 0.8v and 8x cards use 0.8v. AGP 1x & 2x use either 3.3v or 1.5, depending on the card. Since most mobos only support 4x and/or 8x, this would explain why you don't find any newer mobos that support 3.3v. And yes, AGP 1x & 2x are very old. AGP 8x cards, in general, are more expensive than their PCIe 16x counterparts.

Not sure about your mobo question. Maybe someone else can answer that one for ya.

My brother-in-law likes flashy things and now he has his eye on the VisionTek ATI Radeon X1600XT 512mb AGP graphics card, but he is having trouble finding actual user reviews for the card. So he asked me if I could look to see what I could find out. I said okay.

Starting with VistionTek's webpage I looked on their forum and while not finding anything specific to the X1600XT I did see that their 1300 series (along with some other models) was riddled with problems. So I looked further. I still as yet have not found anything X1600XT specific, so I turn to you!

Is anyone using this card? Know someone using this card? or Have any information about actual use of the card?, please respond!! I want to know what you think!

Thanks in advance..

A:VisionTek ATI Radeon X1600XT 512mb AGP...Information Please!

If he wants flashy things, tell him to stay away from that card. It`s easily outperformed by a X800-X850 card.

Also, some Radeons X1600 have the "frezzing" problem when any 3d app is loaded. Just google for "radeon X1600 freezing problem" and you`ll find some bad things about the card.

Can somebody please tell me if each system board has a unique serial number that is coded into the board?

It is in the Bios, but was wondering where it comes from. Is it purely coded or is it hardware?

This is on Dell desktop units

I'm wondering if there are browser pages that pull this information when you post or download. It would seem that if you are a registered owner with Dell, they can not only identify your isp, but also who the computer is registered to.

Does anyone know if Dell shares this information with the government?

Does anyone know how this bios information can be shielded from network traffic?

Dell does not tell people about this information, but it is easy to find.
If you have some ideas, please drop me a line at [email protected]

A:still unable to get password FOR PHOENIX BIOS

Welcome to techspot...

Look in your mainboard manual for instructions on how to "clear cmos" or similar. Basically, it's a little jumper on the mainboard that erases the BIOS settings (which is where the password is stored).

Once you've done that, enter the bious, and load failsafe defaults if you don't know how to set it up as you'd otherwise want it, and proceed to only change the things you understand, or that are related to any problem you are having (and it helps if you understand those!)

Lastly, just a bit of kind advice, but please don't continue to post all in caps (uppercase). Apart from looking untidy, many consider it to be equivelant to shouting, and so it's considered impolite (just simple nettiquette).

eeerrrr... you posted twice. please undo latter post. -.- thanks.

also if your core speed is on your desired overclock speed and the "type of cpu speed" is displayed correctly in the hardware analysis tool.. everything should be fine?

also id like to remind if your system is totally messed and full of useless crap etc. 0.4 ghz wont change much about the speed.

i noticed this with my last setup is it boots up into desktop in about 30-40 secons from reset-point.. and when using a 1200+ instead of a 2600+ it doesnt take veeeeery much longer.

and well.. higher is not always faster.. have you checked the cpu temperatures since overclocking?

How do i find out what watts my pci slot is? I need to know because the video card i have needs 250-min-watts.

A:pci slot information

Don't you mean, how many watts your PSU is? A video card usually recommends a minimum level of power from a PSU but not from the PCI slot.

You can check how many watts your PSU is pumping out by looking on the sticker that is on the psu (power supply unit).

I specifically wanna know If I have a sound card and if I do which one and if I dont then what type of sound(the motherboard's integrated type). If anyone could point me to a utility that can help me identify it and perhaps tell me which drivers I need I would appreciate it.

A:Does anyone know how I can fiind out information abouy my computer?

Look for the audio source.

The first place to look is where you are plugging in your speakers on the back of the computer's case. If you are getting your sound from the same collection of connections where the keyboard and mouse connect you are using the integrated audio from the motherboard.

If you are getting your sound from a connection of one of the PCI slots then you have a sound card. You may have a connection for both. In this case you need to go into BIOS on startup and disable the integrated audio. The next time you restart windows should see your sound card as new hardware if it had not done so before. Hopefully windows should be able to provide suitable drivers on the spot.

If you have only one audio connection and it's on your motherboard the integrated audio may need to be enabled in BIOS.

If all else falis you'll need to open your case and find any identifing logos or part numbers on your motherborad and\or sound card and search the internet for drivers.

Hope this helps! I don't know of any utilities to tell you what you want... hopefully someone else has that info.

I'm not sure I am posting this in the right forum, but I will be in Phoenix, Arizona for 6 weeks this summer. My mother only has dial up access to the internet. Is there any way that I can subscribe to high speed access for a 6-week period? I really don't want to drive to the nearest hotel and sit in their lobby solely for the purpose of accessing their high speed internet.

Thank you for any suggestions.

I wanna extract the header information of wmv-files under linux but I didnīt find such a program.

Does anyone know a (commandline)program which extracts headerinformation like playtime, resolution, used codec... ?

My goal is to get this data into a php-script. So I donīt mind if someone has a solution to extract these data directly with php. (I also didnīt find such a php-class which would serve my needs)

I have a large mp wma collection and I play the music with WMP and its library Before adding new music to the library I information access mp3/wma (without with internet) to tag messes WMP10 tag the files with the software quot Tag amp Rename quot that gets music info from Amazon Then the files are added to WMP s library WMP is not allowed access to the internet because it would replace WMP10 messes with mp3/wma tag information (without access to internet) my beautiful Amazon tags with faulty crappy inaccurate CDDB infos Also all this database fetching stuff is disabled in WMP options WMP10 messes with mp3/wma tag information (without access to internet) I have recently discovered that even WMP10 messes with mp3/wma tag information (without access to internet) though WMP is blocked at several levels it randomly changes the genres of some files to quot Other quot and then also loses custom ratings The changes appear not only in WMP library but also in the mp tags as such I can workaround the problem by write-protecting the files but this is no solution Microsoft has no right to fukk up my tags Do you experience the same Do you have a solution Do you have a recommendation for more professional and less faulty media player than WMP Thanks in advance mapex nbsp

Ive been trying to assist my friend with her blue screen error, she said her computer keeps crashing while its in heavy use (heavy use for her is listening to music while on facebook + myspace and IMing).. However 3 gigs of ram is more then enough to handle that and I've varified the ram is working correctly

Here is the information:

0x000000D1 (0x00000076, 0x00000007, 0x000000000, 0x8E0E6E5F)

I also have the .dmp files but I dont know how to attach them,

And i do belive its a driver issue

If anyone has any idea's I'd be forever grateful

A:Blue screen occuring in Windows Vista - Information greatly valued

If you could please, attach the 5 latest mini**.dmp files

Also how did you test the RAM? Memtest?
I would suggest testing the Hard Drive as well.

If you believe it is a driver issue, simply reinstall all the drivers for the machine. Download the newest ones from the manufacturer of the motherboard's website, and install the new ones.

Hello! Could someone please help me?

My windows XP Pro recently freeze up frequently and I couldn't even get to Safe mode so I did a repair. No dice. So, I re-formatted my hard disk and re-installed windows XP. Well, after copying the files into the hard drive, the computer will hang right at either "Please wait while setup initializes your Windows XP configuration" (and the word below are ..Saving configuration) or it will hang at "Loading information file dmreg.inf". I even bought a new HD, no luck with that. I used memtest86 to test the RAM, no error! I took everything off except the video card..still help. I read somewhere about the PSU. Well, I checked in the BIOS setup, and the voltages are where they supposed to be!

Could someone please help me??

Hi all, I was wondering if someone could help me out here. Im running XP and my BIOS is Phoenix technologies 6. When I try to boot up I get a blank screen, one long beep and two short beeps from the internal speaker and nothing else. I persisted with trying the startup and it works maybe one in twenty times so I have extremely limited access to my PC. Can someone advise me as to the best way to fix this up?

Thanks for hearing me out, hope someone has some info

The original OS is winxp-professional, maybe i change some setup from "BIOS" or "system configuration utility" and when i restart pc, it shows black screen and this information: "Error loading operating system". even i am not able to go in "safe mode". because this is a new computer, so i reinstall with winxp-home edition by cd-rom and format hard-disk already. but two times after, the problem is still in.
Thanks for any help.

Can anyone answer this? The contents of the recent folder under the profile, does that show exactly what was viewed or opened that specific day, and time?

Can something be within recent on a particular day & time stamp, and not necessarily been opened, or viewed on that day or time?

:giddy: does that sound cooky

thanks in advance

A:Help - Information in Recent folder on Windows XP Prof

It's basically just a list in descending order(newest to oldest) of the last documents or files opened. It doesn't mean that they were opened that very day. And if you right-click one of the files and go to properties, I think the "last modified" or something like that text is like a timestamp.

I recently bought a used IBM Laptop. It works fine. However when I right click on my computer and then go to properties. Under the General tab it is registered to the old user. How can I change this.

When I try to access System Information from Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools, two windows (or boxes, if you like to call them that) pop up. The first one says:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft\MSINFO\MSINFO32.EXE

A device attached to the system is not functioning.

I click okay, and the second window appears right where the first one was:

The C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSVCRT40.DLL file expects a newer version of Windows. Upgrade your Windows version.

I have no idea why this happens. I remember at one point System Information was working, and now it doesn't. I always get these errors, even after restarting.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem? I am using Windows 98SE.

Have you tried running windows update in a while? That might be a solution.

I am concerned with the inability to see what services own which connections.  When I run the netstat -bao command I get most of the items with "Can not obtain ownership information".  Is this a problem or a possibly a malicious program
trying to hide what could be taking place?  It shows the process IDs which I can piece together some of the items.
Has anyone experienced this and any clues on what may be causing this?  Thanks in advance!
