I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I run XP Pro on my desktop which is hardwired to my WIFi router. I have a laptop that can make a WiFi connection and use my printer, also hardwired to the desktop.

Whilst I can print as many copies as I wish from my desktop, no matter how many copies one wants from the laptop, it will only ever print one!

Can this be a) explained, and b) overcome?

Thanks
Tony

A:Unable to print multiple copies on shared printer

Is the printer shared on the Desktop? and is Simple File sharing turned on? If so, on the laptop, go to Printers and Faxes, and Delete the printer. Now on the laptop, go to Start/Run and type the computer name of the desktop computer where the printer is attached (ex) \\computername and press enter. It now should show the shared printer and any other shared folders on the Desktop. Right click the Shared Printer and press Connect. The shared printer will now be listed on the laptop. Print a multi page document by opening it, and going to File/Print and changing the amount of pages to print.

I've just got new machine which is installed Microsoft Windows Vista. In my department, we have RedHat Linux Advance Server 2.1 as a File Server, Printer Server and much more.

The problem is: When I print a document from this new Vista machine I can just print only once. If I'd like to print another document, I have to re-boot this Vista machine. There are error messages shown as follow:

"\\10.0.104.20 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission. The Server service is not started."

How to set the Vista machine to print to the Linux's shared printer without re-booting ?

I'm looking forward to hear from all of you.

Regards,
Narin

ps. for more information about the Linux server I use:

You need to add the XP drivers for the Windows 7 machine. Go into devices and printers, highlight the print and click server properties at the top of the Windows. Click over to the drivers tap and click add, it will prompt you for the location of the Windows XP driver.

I would just try to get the matching 32 bit XP driver from Kyocera and install in manually. That's how I did it decades ago when the printer ran on a W2000 server and I had to use it from WfW Desktops

A client is interested in having external networking ports available for printing to internal, XP-attached shared workstation printers.

Basically, they want to print to external IP address 123.123.123.123:8765 and have IIS push that data to a shared printer at someone's workstation. Ideally we would set up six or eight of these, each with a different port on the public IP.

Any suggestions?

Whenever I print to the shared printer on my Windows 7 desktop, the print job will just sit in the print queue. If I stop and then start the print spooler, the job will print. It happens from an XP laptop. Print jobs sent from the local Windows 7 computer print just fine.
How can i solve this one ? :(

This issue with some particular laptop running windows Xp and windows 7 Home

A:Whenever I print to the shared printer he print job will just sit in the print queue

So, the Windows 7 Desktop has the printer physically attached to it and it's shared?
And the XP laptop is sharing the printer through the network? If I understand you correctly?
If so, on the XP Laptop, go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. Are there any devices with yellow flags? Or Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers is there an Unknown Device? Or any listings for the printer? If so, right click it and Uninstall it. Now go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs uninstall any drivers or software for the printer. Now,go to Printers and Faxes, and if the printer icons is there, Right click the shared printer icon and Delete it. And Restart the computer. Now when the computer comes back up, go to the printer manufacturers support/download drivers site and type in the model# for the printer and download the driver for the printer for XP and install it. Now, go to Start/Run and type the computer name of the Windows 7 machine (ex) \\ComputerName and press enter. A window should open up with the shared drives on the 7 computer, with the shared printer. Right click the shared printer and choose Connect. This will add the printer to Printers and Faxes again. Right click this printer/Properties and print a Test Page.

Hi,
in the beginning, I should say the printer is NOT connected to the pc.
I have a shared printer in the network. It's connected via cable to one router. There are usually just two devices (besides the printer, plus phones etc..) in the network: my pc (W7 U 64) - connected to the same router via cable and notebook (W7) - connected via wifi to the same router.
When my pc is on, the notebook can print without any problems, but when it is off, I can see the printer on my notebook, I can try to print stuff, but it only goes to queue and starts to actually print when I turn my pc on.
It is just small home network.
Printer: Ricoh Aficio 3400S but we use 4100N drivers because of the system compatibility

Thanks for your help!

A:Shared printer - Others can't print when my pc is off

Sounds as if the network printer is not installed as a network printer on the other devices. If it is installed as a shared printer (YourPC_Name\Printer_Name), it will naturally only work when your PC is on because the other devices do not search the printer from the network but instead try to connect to it over your PC.

The solution is simple, the printer needs to be installed as network printer on all devices, allowing all devices to connect to it directly instead of over your PC.

A:Shared Printer seen, but won't print

This sounds like a port specification issue, or perhaps a driver issue on the remote machine. How did you install the drivers for the remote machine, and what version of Windows is running on the remote client?

I've been looking for an answer to my problem all day and have yet to find any help.
I thought I'd figure this out before upgrading to Windows 10.
The issue: I am trying to print from my laptop computer, which is running 8.1 Pro, via wifi to a network printer.
The printer is connected by USB to my main computer which is running 7 Pro. All print and file sharing is turned on.
The printer is shown as being connected on my laptop and I can access files, pictures, etc. on the network.
But it won't print anything. It appears it is printing but nothing happens.
Another computer, also running 7 Pro, can print just fine but it is a wired connection.
I know it's probably something simple but I'm stumped.
Any help would be appreciated!

A:Cannot print to shared printer network

Most likely the Print Server on the Windows 7 computer is screwed up. You would be better to get a Print Server that is compatible for your printer, to place it on the network, vs using another computer as sharing.

A:shared printer won't print issue

I finally found the problem and was able to fix it. I discovered that Simple File Sharing had to be enabled and for some reason on my desktop it was disabled. So I went into the registry and enabled it. I have no idea how it got disabled, but that was the problem. I might drink an extra bottle of beer tonight to celebrate. I think I deserve it.
The way I changed it was to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\ForceGuest and change the value from 0 to 1

A:Solved: can't print from a shared network printer

XP-Home or XP-Pro? Note that XP-Home has a limitation of 5 connections from other networked computers.
Turn off any firewalls for debugging. If the firewall is the problem, you'll have to configure it to allow access to "trusted zone" addresses. Note that some firewalls must be completely uninstalled to stop them from affecting your networking.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

PING each remote computer by IP address, and if successful, PING by name. Open a command prompt as described above and type.

PING <ip address>
or
PING <computer name>

Where:
<ip address> - is the x.x.x.x IP address
<computer name> - is the computer name

A failure to PING is almost always a firewall configuration issue. Any failure to PING needs to be corrected before you go any farther.

Note: You can obtain the IP address and computer name of a computer by opening a command prompt (DOS window) and typing IPCONFIG /ALL. This should work for any Windows version. The IPCONFIG /ALL display will provide a wealth of useful information for debugging your network connection.

Check your Services are Started on all PCs:

COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
Computer Browser
DHCP Client
DNS Client
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Server
TCP/IP Netbios helper
Wireless Zero Configuration (XP wireless configurations)
WLAN AutoConfig (Vista wireless configurations)
Workstation

Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

All of these services should be started, and their startup type should be automatic.

If a service is not running, open it's properties and check the dependencies. Check each of the dependencies and see which one is preventing the service from running. Checking the event log is also a good idea here, there may be clues to what is failing.
All computers should be in the same workgroup for computer browsing to function properly. File & Print Sharing has to be enabled on any computer you wish to share files or printers from. You also need to actually share the resource in question from My Computer, right click on the drive/printer/folder, and select sharing.

If you encounter difficulties accessing computers that are visible in Network Places (Network and Sharing Center in Vista), make sure the computer being accessed has an account with the same name/password as the system connecting to it uses to login. NOTE: Vista's default is to require a password on the account to enable file/print sharing.

While the default NetBIOS setting is correct for normal network configurations, it's possible for it to be altered, and it costs nothing to make sure it's correct. NETBIOS over TCP/IP must be enabled for normal network browsing. You can open a command prompt as described above and type the following command: nbtstat -n. This will display the status of NetBIOS or indicate it's not configured.

A:Shared Printer***garbage going to the Print queue**

Hi, If you have upgraded to higher version of Office, Works, Word, Xcel, etc....but not upgraded all machines, the file opened on the non-updated machine might look like weird characters (garbage). That's only one idea...of course there are other reasons, such as not saving the file in the correct program (this is common between computers that have Works when a file created in Office is viewed) Hope this helps!
There are free file converters which will allow computers not having Word at all to open .doc or .wks files....or that will allow cross-program work.

I have a workgroup set up with four XP workstations. Workstation A has a local printer that is shared. When printing to it from any of the other workstations (e.g., Workstation B), the print job owner is listed as "Guest". This is the case even if I'm logged on Workstation B with an account name and password that matches my account name and password on Workstation A.

Is there a way to have the account name from Workstation B show up as the print job owner, instead of it saying "Guest"?

Thanks.

You might try to uninstall any recent Windows 7 updates that may have been recently installed.

I can't think of any other reason why this problem would just appear.

Generally

here in my problem i am unable to change user user name it just show guest and disabled to change

A:unable to open shared printer

You want to add the printer on System 2. Go to Start/Run and type system 2's computer name (ex) \\computername or IP Address (ex) \\192.168.2.1 and press enter. You should be asked to log in. Once done This will open a window with System 1's shares. Right click the Shared Printer and choose Connect. System 1's printer will now show up under Printers and Faxes. Right click the printer/Properties and print a test page.

Vista Home premuim. Network settings correct on both PCs. From Vista I can ping the XP by IP address and by Computer name. From Vista I can map a drive on the XP using either IP or computer name.
However In Network XP PC name is present but double-click says no access.
Shared printer on XP is not found by Vista Add Printer.
XP can see Vista in Network Places and double-click shows shared folders.
What is next step?

A:Vista HP cannot see XP shared printer

On the xp machine click on the printer.
There is sharing options within the drivers.
You have to tell the printer it is shared.

I have my printer connected to a XP Home box and shared. I can connect to it and print fine on another XP box using my home wireless network.

I have a 3rd computer (laptop) running Vista. I can connect and print but it takes forever. For instance, when I have excel open and simply want to drag margins in print preview, it takes 5 to 10 seconds per margin. I get an hourglass waiting for the margin change. Same thing with Paint Shop, do a resize and it takes 10 seconds. To actually queue the print, is taking a few mins.

Is there something I need to run/install on vista if my printer is attached to a XP box?

A:Vista to XP shared printer issue

The error code says something like "destination does not have applicable inf" files. iow, it can't find an .inf file that tells it how to install the printer driver. My old Epson pinters came with an XP driver, and a network program to run on the client machine to access the XP driver over the network. You might check the printer site for such a client program. Also look for a manufacturer's forum. Your chances of getting a specific printer to work are much higher where all the questions are for similar models. You may find out some specific trick or tweak.

Hello,

Hopefully this is the right forum....

I have a an HP 6200 Printer connected to a Windows Vista...I would like to share the printer so that I can print to it from my Win XP.

I opened the printer properties in Vista and shared the printer along with changing printer name to "Printer1"...my Vista computer name is "MYComputer-1".

Next I opened the Network Sharing and enabled printer sharing in Vista and disabled password protection.

Next I opend my Win XP laptop and tried to connect to the printer but no luck...keep getting the message "unable to locate....etc.". I tried to connect to the printer using \\MYCOMPUTER-1\Printer1 but that does not work.

Is there a problem between Vista and XP when it comes to sharing printers.
Thanks,

Hello everyone, I have an HP Laserjet 1200 printer on a Windows 2000 Advanced server machine hooked up through USB. Anyways this printer serves the whole house and is easily connected to throught XP and 2k Pro machines. However, recently I installed Vista x64 Ultimate on my main box and I cannot seem to get it to connect. I have tried the Universal HP Printer driver but that didn't work. Vista can see the printer and connect to it but it keeps on asking me for a driver, I know vista has a driver for it already but it is as if it doesn't want to use it's own driver. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again guys!

A:Connecting to Shared Printer Vista x64

Vista does NOT have a 64 bit driver for that printer. I messed around with HP's generic 64 bit driver for some time but had to give up. I finally left it as a standby for my wife's (32 bit) laptop.
But try the 2400 series 64 bit drivers. I have not experimented myself, but have read that they work at a pretty good percentage of efficiency.

On the Vista did you turn on printer sharing? Did you configure any non-Windows firewall for the desired access?

Vista refuses to file share unless at least one user account is password protected. Don't know if that is needed for printer sharing.

Hello All,

This is my first Post on this forum and i would like to ask for help on an irritating issue of a network printer.

I am a system administrator in Thomas Cook Goa location and in one of our branch there is a shared printer on a
particular hostname. Now here's the problem ...

All sharing ralated settings have been done in the Antivirus and firewall to which the printer is connected to.
the other computers can ping this PC, but when i try to type \\follewed by hostname or ip address I get an error message
saying that i do not have permissions to access the location.

The printer sharing pc was on win 7 and the other was on XP so i installed win 7 on the other pc also but still no luck...

Any advice??

Thanx in advance

Hi all,
I used mail merge in Microsoft Word to create several pages of labels. When I try to print using a Hewlitt Packard LaserJet 4Si, one page will print correctly then the printer will stop with an error that I need to load paper. Once this error comes up, I have to completely reset my printer in order to print Anything.

The error also says I must use Manual Feed. But when I load the paper into the manual feed, only half the page will print. The rest looks likes it's running out of toner. Again, I have to reset the printer.

Any ideas on how to get my labels to print correctly?
Thank you much! =)

Dear friends

I have two pcs with Vista, and in one of them Im trying to share a printer

In the other vista machine I cant see the server machine in the network, so I opened Explorer and accessed it trough \\machine_name, and I could succesfully add the printer

However when I try to print the print job remains in spool till I reboot the server machine.

I applied these policies as suggested in other threads

Local Computer Policies\Administrative Templates\Printers
Allow print spooler to accept client connections > to enabled

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Printers\ Point and Print Restrictions > to disabled
and tried to disable the bidirectional support, but when I do that it wont let me print even locally, so I had to enable it back

What else can I do?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi to all.

I am having an annoing problem with shared printers.

The user that share a printer lose the default printer in any case when another user print on this shared and it turn immediatly default printer only for the user that share the printer.

The printer shared is a label printer without network port and all was working very well before this , in my opinion, unusefull improve.

All user have the " not manage default option" , win 10 pro but seems that "default option" do not effect at all with shared printers.

It is clear that is a very bad working for the sharing printer user that have to check every time what the actual default printer.

any suggestion or is it a win 10 bug ?

ciao

To reset the printer port, follow these steps: Click the Start menu, and then select Control Panel>Hardware and Sounds>Printers.
Double click the Printers option. The Printers window appears.
Right click your printer, and then select the Properties option. The Properties window appears.
Select the Ports tab, and then check mark the USB option.

Cannot print to a "Shared" Printer on Win 7 Ultimate 64 from a Vist 32bit machine.

I can see the printer, but then it says that the drive is incorrect.

It says that the *.inf file is not correct.

I cannot figure this out!

I also cannot install additional drivers on the Win 7 machine, because I get a, "the specified location does not contain the driver for the requested processor architecture" message.

What am I doing wrong here??!!

Problem:
I have a PC that has to connect to a server through a modem for security reasons.
While it is connected to the modem, a screen needs to be printed.
The printer that is being used is connected to the local network.
While connected to the modem, attempting to print gives the error "The RPC server is unavailable."

System:
Windows XP Professional SP3
Printer server is Windows Server 2008
Modem is old 56k modem connected by serial port (don't think that matters)

What I've tried:
I have tried modifying the routing table to force connections to the subnet that the computer and printer are hosted on.
route -p add 10.1.0.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 10.1.61.0 METRIC 40 IF 0x2
ip for the PC is 10.1.61.53, ip for the printer is 10.1.61.22, IF 0x2 is the integrated NIC
The RPC service is running, and I have also started the RPC locator

Any suggestions what I should do next?

A:Unable to print to network printer while connected to modem

These are correct

ip for the PC is 10.1.61.53,
ip for the printer is 10.1.61.22, IF 0x2
but this is not

route -p add 10.1.0.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 10.1.61.0
and should not be necessary at all, if the PC gateway is on 10.1.61.x

Instead, get the output of ROUTE PRINT and post that

I have a Samsung CLP310 printer attached to my wife's computer (USB) and a samsung ML2010 printer attached to my computer (USB).
She can print to her printer, and I can print to mine. Both printers are set to "share". I can add her printer to my list of printers, and she can add mine to her list. BUT...I can't print to hers and she can't print to mine.
She's on Ultimate 7, and I'm on Premium 7. We can share documents so I know that the network is working. I can see her printer and check its properties etc, but I can't print to it. I get an error message ("your file could not be printed due to an error on \\blackmatt\samsung clp-310 series on e03") and an offer to troubleshoot, but nothing helps.
I've tried deleting and adding the printers back on, and also tried re-installing the drivers.
Any ideas?
Thanks Steve

I have a new Dell Computer and an HP Laserjet 4100n printer. The printer worked fine with the old computer that had Windows XP, but since changing to a new computer with Windows Vista, the printer will only print a brand new document, but nothing that's been saved and nothing from the internet. The printer is hooked up with a USB 25 pin cable. The computer recognized the printer immediately. The printer reads that the data has been received, and then does nothing. Trying to cancel the print project is virtually impossible. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have four computers on a home network (xp and 7). I have one printer connected to the 7 machine.
I shared the printer and the other computer are connected to it, but when they try to print, it gets sent to the printer but it does not print. If I restart the print spooler on the computer that is acting as the print server it prints immediately. But I have to restart the print spooler every time it prints.

I tried connecting the printer to a different win 7 machine, but I get the same problem.

However, try ensuring you aren't using W7 Homegroup, and that you're using traditional networking instead, and that you've loaded W7 drivers for the printer.

I just replaced an XP machine with a new Vista 64 machine. We have a home network. My wife's computer is XP home and it has a Canon Pixma IP 4000 color printer hanging off one of your usb ports. I've always been able to print to it before Vista came into my life. Now when I try to connect to it I get a message saying "The server for the IP 4000 does not have the correct print driver installed". However, when I go to her XP machine it says it does have the latest driver installed. Why the hell can't Microsoft make a product that is simple to use? Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Or was Vista created to sell more printers?

Thanks,
Don

Hi

I can't get my printer to print out more than one page of a document with windows vista, I have a Lexmark x2470.

Every time I try to print more than one page of a document, I get an error message pop up saying "Lexmark connect time executable has stopped working". I have installed the vista drivers for this printer, and the printer and drivers are all working properly when I checked...

I have uninstalled and reinstalled a few times using the vista drivers, I have no clue what else I can try?

Help

HI.

I have a brand new Dell laptop with Windows Vista. I have an HP printer that worked fine with my old computer. I have downloaded the HP driver for my printer from the official HP website (I've deleted and repeated this process several times). Prints go to the queue but don't print. The scan function works, so the connection is fine.
HP techs tried to troubleshoot but ultimately gave up and blamed Dell.
Dell blamed HP before even trying to help, and recommends that I call their tech support line and pay them to troubleshoot.
Microsoft is currently trying to troubleshoot but has been unable to solve the problem.

This is driving me crazy!!!

A:Editing Printer Preferences from Vista to XP Print Job

You may have to try different version of the drivers. I'd try connecting the printer directly to the Vista machine and installing it and get it running. Then move it to the XP machine and change the port assignment in the properties of the printer on the vista machine. Add a new local port with the full path name of the printer on the XP machine.

Vista - Printer error when attempting to print

When I send an item to print, the document appears in the print que. The printer is listed as offline in control panel.

I change the printer status to online. The document now has error next to the file name in the printer que. Nothing actually prints. This printer connection was working fine for seven months, and then just stopped.

Iím using Vista with a USB to parallel printer cable connected to an Epson printer. The printer passes the printer self test (done with PC off). I replaced the USB to parallel cables, no change.

I have tried to delete the printer, delete USB printer support, and all items in the print que. Still no file prints.

How do I find an error code for the print file, to help define the problem? Any ideas on what to check?

There was an old thread with this same concern and I tried all of the suggestions posted there The most frustrating thing about my scenrrio is From XP Printer Vista to Desktop on Can't Print Laptop this freakin thing worked fine till I uninstalled reinstalled my printer on the pc I have a Lexmark x connected via USB to a Desktop running XP My Laptop is running Vista Business and connected to my Desktop via a Netgear wireless router I can access files on the Desktop from my Laptop and access files on my Laptop from Can't Print From Vista Laptop to Printer on XP Desktop my Desktop I can print from my Desktop but cannot print from my Laptop I know that many others have had the same problem and have tried the solutions that solved their problems -- none worked for me Solution - This is how I got my Vista Laptop to Print to a Shared Laser Printer which is connected via USB to my XP Desktop computer On your Vista Laptop Go to Control Panel - Choose Printer - Then Choose Add Printer Choose Add Local Printer Click on Create a New Port the default in the drop down list is Local Port Do Not Can't Print From Vista Laptop to Printer on XP Desktop Change this Click Next You may have to type in Local Port You will then be presented with a list of printer manufacturers Select your vendor and specific printer from the list If your printer is not listed select the closest match My printer is not on the list nor can I find any documentation on the web as to which is the closest match A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name Type in computer name printer name For example My computer's name is Office and the printer's name is Office Printer so I typed in Office Office Printer You can find out the name of your printer by Browsing for available network printers BEFORE you do step number above This is accomplished by doing step number but select Add Network Wireless or Bluetooth Printer Vista will search for available Printer Right down exactly how you have named your XP printer You should now be able to print from you Vista Machine to a XP Printer So this was moot for me to do When I attempt to quot connect quot from the Vista Laptop this is the error message I get I tried dlding Vista drivers to install on the laptop but they turned out to be Vista installation files that obviously installs the whole program on the laptop No point in installing anything Vista-esque to the PC cause that will over ride the operational drivers that I have running now I truly am stumped Thoughts

Thats a tough one. I am sure you already did this but I would just verify that the drivers for the XP machines are XP drivers instead of Vista drivers. And removing the printers from each machine and re-adding them. Other than that it doesn't make much sense to me as to why they wouldn't work.

The router was the cause. During a power outage last week on the re-start it assigned different IP addresses to the PCs.
192.168.254.1 VistaLaptop
192.168.254.2 win2000sata
192.168.254.4 win2000old

192.168.254.1 VistaLaptop
192.168.254.3 win2000sata

I have adjusted the Hosts file and hard-set the IP addresses in the router so this will not happen again.

What happens when you try to print to the Brother printer? What's the exact error message, if any?

Have you updated the Brother printer's driver package recently? If not, you should try that.

Do you have a third machine (any Windows OS) that could be used to determine whether the problems printing to the Brother machine are specific to the Vista box?

Thanks for the reply. I checked all the settings as you suggested. The only one that was not correct was the one to use passwords and user accounts to connect.

When I use the add printer wizard it sees the printer but then gives me the access denied. See snapshot below. Also, I can see all the computer connected the network. When I click on the computer with the shared printer I can see the printer. If I click to connect I get the same error - please see snapshots.

i have been running windows 7 rc1 for a while now, I have a HP laserjet 1018 installed as a shared printer on a windows xp machine. From windows 7 rc1 I send jobs to this printer no problem. However, on my new retail version of windows 7 professional 32 bit the printer does not respond to print jobs. The document sits in the que for a few seconds then it just disappears.

Hello techieguy, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums! Nice to meet you.

You could try plugging the printer into the 7 pro 32 machine and allow windows to install the driver. See if you are able to print directly. Then put the printer back on the XP machine and setup the device (the printer) again as a networked printer and check.

Question: Do all computers networked belong to the same "workgroup name" (not homegroup)?

Cheers!

Robert

A:Solved: Windows 7 and non shared printer.

Windows 8 and 10 PCs were able to access printer and drive/files through shared printer and network sharing (map network drive) from Windows 7 PC. Upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10 and now those other PCs cannot access printer nor the drive/files. I have been googling and searching on answers and nothing seems to help. Can finally map to network drive on windows 8 PC, but then is says access denied.

A:Trying to access shared files and printer from Windows 10 PC

Your question isn't clear. Are the shared files/printers located on the recently upgraded PC? And, you're trying to access them from the Windows 8 and Windows 10 PCs?What type of Home Sharing did you setup on the newly upgraded system? Have you verified permissions?

Hi guys,

I was trying to search the web and this forums for an answer to this question but I couldn't find any sing of solution...

Problem is with this single PC in our LAN that is running windows 7 pro.
Whenever user reboots the computer and tries to print something on our shared printer he will be prompt with the re install driver message.

Other PCs are using shared printer without any issue and there are all kinds of PCs, running XP, Windows 7 x64, Windows 7 x86 etc...

Although after re-installation printing is successful this can be quite frustrating as sometimes happens few times on a daily basis.

Any ideas why this is happening?

btw, there is only one user account on problematic PC and that user account has administrator privileges.

Thanks
Dean

Hi Dolke , I am not an expert on this.. but.. could you give specs on the problematic computer.. I am sure it has all its updates.. this issue should not be happening if set up correctly for sharing .. i am stumped ..give us more info on the one computer and the type of network connections you have made for it to share .. lets see if we can get this sorted out..

I am trying to added a printer on a windows 7 machine. When i add new printer and select from the list i get this error.
Connect to Printer.
A policy is in effect on your computer which prevents you from connecting to this print queue. Please contact your system administrator.

I have tried adjusting the Group policy setting and registry as suggested in this article. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=319939&product=winsvr2003
I can manually add the printers via the ip address of the printer, but cannot from selecting them from the available printer list.
Any suggestion to resolve this issue.

Hi,

I would like to suggest you configure the following policies in your default domain policy. After configuring the policies you should run the command:
gpupdate /force.

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Printers\

Point and Print Restrictions >>
Disable
Prevent addition of printers
>> Disable
Prevent deletion of printers
>>
Disable

Local Computer Policies\Administrative Templates\Printers\

Allow print spooler to accept client connections
>> Enable

I have a Windows 7 Pro Desktop PC and a Windows 7 Home Edition Laptop. I would like to map a drive on the Laptop to a shared folder on the Desktop. In the Network portion of the Laptop it sees the Desktop PC name and under the PC name it shows the Users folder and under that it shows my Username. What it doesn't show are the two folders I have set to share with everyone. These two folders are in the root folder of the C: (main) drive of the Desktop. What do I need to do to see these two folders in the mapping window? Thanks for any assistance.

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

To avoid a lot of Q & A about your hardware and OS configuration, please click on this link to
Edit System Specs

Filling this out, at least partially, will save a lot of time. Another advantage is when posting a new problem, the person answering can just click the My System Specs link in the bottom of your post. No need to search for the information.

If you have multiple systems just indicate that in the System Specs so that we know why many of the fields are blank.

Are you able to read/write files in the Public folder on the desktop? If not, it's been my experience the fastest way to get the network sharing going is to be able to read and write files in the already shared Public folder. If you can't do that then you can pull your hair out trying to share other folders.

Solved issue about sharp AR M-236 in Windows 8. I've been trying to connect to a shared printer on an OS running on Windows XP. No drivers were given for Winows 8. The first thing to do is disabling driver signature in Windows 8 that is given as default:
Disable Driver Signature Verification

Then you have to install the driver (depending on 64-bit or 32-bit architecture):
http://www.tradenet.sharp.co.uk/file.../ARM236664.exe
http://www.tradenet.sharp.co.uk/file.../ARM236615.exe

During installation you will be asked to specify whether the printer is shared or directly connected. Choose shared and then specify the canonical windows path, for example:
\\John\SHARPAR-236

where John is the computer where the copier Sharp Ar-m236 is installed and working...

Hope it helps

Hi everybody, I have a dilemna. A user on our network doesn't like the name of the HP laserjet printers she uses. These printers are set up on our Windows 2000 server with standard names such as '\\server\Executive Level 1 B&W Laser' and similar. The user wants us to change this to something like '\\server\Black and White'. Now we aren't going to do this on the server, it will be to confusing. Is there a way in Windows XP to change the display name of such a printer, only on the client PC? A registry hack perhaps? I have searched around, but can't find anything relevant. PLEASE HELP!

A:How can I change the display name locally of a Windows 2000 shared printer

I don't believe there is a way to change just a local name for the printer, windows will only recognize the printer exists with one name, assigned during install. It effects both the driver and the OS, the name has to be constant or you risk possible communication errors with the printer, creating more headaches for you. Sorry for the bad news, if anyone out there does find a reg hack for you, post it so I can see, I would be curious to see it work.

I am unable to print from any program. Printers seemed to be installed OK. When I select print, the program freezes and displays the message "The printer has not yet responded, but the Microsoft Office program may be able to proceed without printer information. Do you want to continue to wait for the printer?". If I say no I get the printer dialogue box with the printer line blank, but all printers displayed below the bank line. If I select one of the printers I get the message "The active directory domain services is currently unavailable".
I tried googling the problem, but cannot find an answer. Any ideas?

A:Unable to print "The printer has not yet responded, but the ..."

Hi, are you using any printer sharing (USB device share) software? This can cause such behaviour. Additionally it could be a USB glitch - have you tried changing the printer to another USB port? If it's a network printer or you are trying to access a printer on another workstation then there would be other steps to take...

Obviously you need a printer that has sufficient consumables on hand, and silly as it sounds, make sure there are no paper jams...
