Hi, I have a current issue with my Acer Aspire M7720 desktop running on W7.
This problem started last saturday. When I pressed the power button, it doesn't respond. Only after much going through the process of plugging and unplugging all the usb and power supply, together with much spamming of the power button, then it would switch on. Anyone can help me cause I don't think this is a good way of trying to switch on my computer.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Can you explain what happens when you press the power button please? Do you get any lights appear, can you hear the computer doing anything?
It sounds like it could be a faulty power switch, but need more information to confirm.

I recently got a problem with my computer directly after attempting to replace my RAM. Once I replaced the RAM and plugged the computer back in, I got a long, repetitive beeping noise coming from the computer. In addition, none of its external ports, such as USB or the monitor appear to work. I tried replacing the RAM with the old ones, but I got the same result. Does anyone know what could have caused this?
One more thing. When I do start it up, it seems everything inside is functional. I can hear the fan spinning. I see all of the lights on the outside, and the cd drives work.
I have two different software programs that have this problem. If I have one or both of them open along with other programs simultaneously (like Excel, for example), and I want to switch to Excel from the program, I have to press alt-tab twice rather than just once. When I'm switching back and forth often, this double pressing of alt-tab becomes a real headache. How can this be fixed? I use a 2 GHz Pentium 4 operating WinXP Pro.
I am moving house and my ISP Virgin will not transfer their service to my new area because Virgin now only supports fibre optic connections I have agreed a new ISP contract and email address and I have emailed everyone in my address book to advise them of my new email from the end of the month So far so good However what with switching ISP. Problem do I do about all the web sites such as Amazon eBay and all the Forums etc that I Problem with switching ISP. am registered with The new ISP takes over from the old ISP on the same day The day I move house So if I want to change my registration details how do I go about it If I log in after the changeover date the website will not recognise my email address because I have a new ISP and email If I log in before changeover Problem with switching ISP. and register the new email the web site will not recognize the new email because the new ISP will not have taken over I am registered with dozens of sites and I really do not want to have to re-register with all these sites Am I missing something here Any advice would be appreciated I could set up a new email account with Gmail Hotmail or Outlook com now and register with the web sites but I really don't want to do this Are any of these free email providers better than the others I really do not need this in the middle of moving Any help appreciated
You shouldn't have a problem logging into those other sites, it's only a login on their site, once you get your new email you can change it after logging in with your old one.
You have to go through the hassle of changing it anyway, they will just want you to confirm it by sending you an email to your new address.
I almost switched ISP's a while back so I know what you're going through, I went around and changed my email just about everywhere, it was a hassle.
Places like Amazon and EBay would the first ones to do, then the forums. You don't have to re-register with all of them just change your email in the account settings of each one.
I have Outlook and Gmail both so they are good alternatives if you want to start changing things now.

Simple way to troubleshoot this problem is to swap monitors first. A blemish on the LCD screen cannot be fixed... If you can't clean it off
Newbie here, I hope this is the right place for this post, if not I apologize. The problem I am having is that I tried to installed Office 2007 the other day and Outlook was unresponsive. All other office programs worked fine. I un-installed office 2007 and reloaded Office 2003. Now everything works fine when I am logged into XP. The problem is that when my wife logs into her profile, no programs work and the computer locks up and has to be rebooted. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have reinstalled widnows, but when I click switch user, it returns to the welcome screen as normal, but when I try and log into anotehr account, the screen either 1)Goes black with a flashing white cursor in the top left corner for a while before returning to the welcome screen or 2) Flashes blank and stays in the welcome screen
I Haven't got a clue what is causing this!
Appreciate any help given,
I have 2 Windows 8.1 PCs and have the same problem on both. When I switch from one user account to another then back to the original account, I just get the rotating circle and can't do anything. The problem is solved by logging off and on again. SFC /SCANNOW shows no problems.
Has anyone any ideas on what may be the problem?
last week i put my computer on the internet for a day or two (first time ever). i installed firefox, ad-aware and the modem to connect (adsl modem). now every five minutes the computer switches back to the desktop (like pushing alt tab) i don't know what's wrong. i checked for spyware, viruses => clean. i stopped obsolete processes in task manager. i deleted all the programs i installed in the first place. the computer is not connected to the internet nor a network anymore. what can be causing this problem? it's a dell D505, 512MB RAM, Pentium M 1.3 GHz. and i'm running windows XP professional.
When I power the Pc up everything works except the display, I have no OS as this is a project build.
Basically what is happening is the screen is black but on rare occasions I receive one beep and the post screen appears but only stays on for maybe 5 seconds and goes off again, It will keep doing this in a loop.
I have tried the following parts from my working machine, memory, dvd drive, cd drive, psu, but the problem still exists.
When it does post on the rare occasion, I can press delete and enter the setup and the screen does not flash.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Check all your hardware and cable connections to make sure that they are all firmly seated. Next, what type of cable are you using to connect the monitor to the PC?http://www.pchelpforum.com/pc-hardware/127962-problem-display-when-switching-pc.html

OK dont worry Guys, I know it was a strange problem, maybe my PC just isnt powerfull enough to handle more than 1 user, so I have now deleted the other log in names, it was just too much of a headache.
Now I am just left with my name there.
Now, how do I get into my account without having to click on my name (hope yopu know what I mean)
I just want the pc to boot to my desktop like it used to without me clicking on my name.
I am using a switching cable to control 2 pcs with one monitor, mouse & keyboard
The model is digitus and seesm to light up corectly showing which PC it is controlling.
Both PC's work OK independently.
Problem is that it will only show monitor of PC1 from boot up. Switches to PC2 OK but as soon as I switch back to PC1 it shows blank screen.
Monitor is OK when I switch back to PC2. The only way I can get PC1 back is to power off both PC's and boot up PC1
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be happening?
Here's my situation: when switching from one user to another, the monitor goes black, then large letters come on that say PC Self Diagnosis Y or N? It then goes completely black causing us to reboot. Also, the light on the monitor blinks on and off. It does not seem to be a hardware problem. Can anyone offer any advice?
What happens if you click "Y"?Does it try to sell you a program to correct the problem? (open your browser and take you to a webpage)If so, it is malware, and you should install, update and run Adaware, Spybot Search and Destroy and the Microsoft Anti-malware beta to try to get rid of malware infestations that may be present in your computer.AdAware SE (get the freeware version although they will keep attempting to sell you an upgrade):http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/Spybot S&D (freeware): http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.htmlMicrosoft Antispyware Beta (freeware): http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/s...re/default.mspxhttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/43236/switching-users-problem/
Hey guys recent problem here with switching usernames There s three accounts on my computer all with no passwords About three weeks ago a strange thing has been happening the first time you start your computer and log into one of the three accounts it ll log you in no problem Then when you go and switch users it will prompt for a password that was never created and won t let you log in So With Users. Problem Switching I restarted the computer and then I put some simple passwords on the accounts thinking it would work Well the same thing happened The first time you log in after a bootup it Problem With Switching Users. works but then you get Problem With Switching Users. locked out again once you try switching users again This is where it gets even stranger The problem stopped you could switch users fine quot Alright quot I said quot it s finally over quot I was wrong once you restart the computer it went back to locking me out I m so confused about this and it s really frustrating I ve tried virus scans and there appears to be no problems with anything like that I really need some assistance here
Try going to users in the control panel and click on switch the way users log on or off.
Whichever way you have it set, change to the other.
After you do that reboot, then go back to users and switch back.
Let us know.
We are running XP Pro and recently a yellow window will come up when I try to switch users. It says "Attention Signal Frequency is out of Range"
"Please change signal timing"
And then the computer locks up.
What the heck do I do about that??
Thanks for any help,
p.s. This website ROCKS!!!
Thats a problem with your video adapter and it could be because the user you are trying to change to has set the video settings outside the range of the software or your monitor. Try rebooting in Safe Mode and changing the video settings for that user. If you suspect a game may have made those settings then uninstall that game. Failing that you may need to uninstall the drivers for your video adapter and then reinstall them again.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/14294/switching-user-problem/

I have Fast User Switching enabled, yet every time I use the "Winkey+L" function, it goes to the classic screen with the "This computer is in use and has been locked" message.
im not in any network, i have two accounts, plus the admin account, and the guest account is disabled. any help?
Fast user switching can block a number of items although I have never heard of your problem.Does this key combination work with FUS turned off. If so turn it off ,then check Microsoft to see if there is a work around .You may not need it anyway,I have found it isn't worth it.
Hi, I'm having a problem with switching servers I think. Where I live there are a number of Linksys 10/100 16 port VPN routers providing internet through out the house.
I have problems with certain websites and games, they both involve passwords and user names and I think switching servers or receiving information from other servers causes me to disconnect. Yet for both instances I can log in when the stars are aligned but for the majority of the time I'm denied access.
I have tried removing the firewall and forwarding ports but that doesn't work either
If I could help with this it would mean the world for me thanks.
I'm using an Acer Travelmate 6293 that runs on windows xp pro sp3. Recently, i messed up my shell files so I decided to reinstall xp using Acer's built in erecovery tool that has a factory image of my laptop in a hidden partition. The recovery process went well. However, when my bios is set in IDE mode, a blue screen is shown immediately after the windows xp progress bar appears. My laptop works fine in ahci. How do i successfully switch xp back to ide mode.
As for full version windows xp set up disks, my laptop never came with any. What i have is a set of recovery disks made using Acer's erecovery tool.
Although i prefer AHCI mode, i'm sharing this laptop with my cousin (who owns this laptop and wants it in ide mode)
Any help will be appreciated
I don't know why, but for whatever reason the "Fast User Switching" option on my computer does not seem to work. I am running XP and don't really know a ton about computers, but what happens is that I go into the control panel, check the box that says to "enable fast user switching, hit apply after, but as soon as I go back in, the box is unchecked again for no apparent reason.
Do either of these apply?
Only users with a computer administrator account on a computer can turn on or turn off Fast User Switching.
Fast User Switching cannot be turned off while multiple users are logged on to the computer.

I log on as administrator. When I try to switch to my wife's account (the only other one) it starts logging on but freezes. It doesnt complete, and the only thing you can do is ctr-alt-del and log her back off. I noted that norton ghost was not loading properly so I disabled the tray icon using msconfig, but the problem remains even when the tray icon doesnt load up, so I think something else is the problem. Has anyone had anything similar? What could be causing this? If I log off, then log on as her, it's fine - the problem is when we use the switch users command. The problem, I think, started when I updated my via drivers after having problems with one of my sata drives (I am NOT running any kind of raid array).
Here's my setup:
msi PT8 neo-v board
2x512mb ddr ram
GeForce FX 5900XT
win xp pro.
I've scanned for spyware, degragged and eliminated viruses as the problem.
Give me a shout if there is any more info that you need!

If you create a "dummy" account (just some generic local user account) log onto it once, then log off and log back on as Administrator and try to switch to the dummy account, does the same problem occur?
I only ask because it would rule out your wife's User profile as being the source of the problem.
Also, do you have Service Pack 2 installed?
i was about to format my pc so before formatting i tried my xp home edition cd to check how to install windows......
but i didnt format my comp. so due to incomplete installation a option is coming when i switch on my comp.
one is to run my pre loaded windows and another is to go for xp setup.
now i dont want that message to appear .
how can it be removed?
Have you tried system restore?

Hey Again guys ^^
I'm having a major problem with my Wireless Internet,
If I want to download something overnight, whilst a friend or someone else is using the PC, I would usually switch users (Back when i was cable to router), but Now that I'm wireless, everytime I switch users the Internet cuts out, then reconnects on the other user, which stops my downloads from going ahead.
Is there any way to disable this feature? I've tried disabling the power saving check boxes and etc, but nothing so far.
Please help tech guys!
My HP G71 malfunctioned. Long story short, I put in an old Vista hard drive, reset the admin password using Linux, and finally got my computer to start up again.
Now it's saying there are no wireless networks available. When I click "diagnose this problem", a box pops up that says "There are driver or hardware problems with the network adapter Realtek RTL8101 Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) on this computer."
What does this mean? Is it something to do with drivers? Or is the hard drive just not compatible? Should I just buy a new hard drive?
Some more info: My HP G71 was running windows 7, before I swapped to a hard drive running Windows Vista service pack 1. The hard drive is from a Sony VAIO model PCG-713L. It's currently letting me install Vista service pack 2, which I guess must have already been downloaded to the hard drive.
Is it something to do with drivers? Or is the hard drive just not compatible? Should I just buy a new hard drive?Click to expand...
Yes,yes, and yes to buying a new hard drive. Odds of what your trying to do with that Vaio HD is next to impossible.
Any time the hardware of the computer is changed drastically in cases like this, you would in most cases need to do a full reload of windows. You're swapping drives into a completely different computer, meaning, new motherboard and cpu, in 99% of cases, you won't be able to boot normally doing this.
Just got a new dell with XP Pro installed. I have to log off in order to switch users. When I try to just switch users, the welcome screen flashes to my desktop and then back to the welcome screen and won't let me do anything else until I log off the original user. I have the fast user switch active and have confirmed that the RPC, fast user switch and terminal services are on and on automatic. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Fast User Switching won't work in every situation.
- The Welcome screen must be enabled.
- The computer must not be joined to a domain.
- Offline files must be disabled.
Just set up a few accounts for my family on my Vista SP1 Ultimate machine: myself as Admin, rest as users. When I try and Fast Switch (or even log off from one account and try to open another) I get the correct background, but sidebar and systray don't load and, mousing over the Start button, the mouse turns to busy still indicating activity. What's going on??
I am new ti the forum hope someone can help me out with my problem.
I have an application which will toggle between Arabic and English keyboard layouts as necessary.
Things are fine up to Windows 98. But with Windows2000 and with XP it is not switching from English to Arabic automatically but From Arabic it comes to English Automatically. Can you suggest any solutions ?
Note: When I install Hebrew Keyboard layout, the same application toggling between English and Hebrew
without any trouble. Please also note that the application doesn't use Windows API.
Hey guys, I got it done thru a short cut, dont worry about this anymore.
Hi all,... hope this is the correct forum.

Having an annoying problem with OE. Recently set up a new identity and often (though not every time) when I switch identities, OE momentarily shuts down and reopens. But I can't see the bodies of any existing emails or the ones that automatically download on startup.
Sometimes it fails to boot into the other ID at all. In these circumstances if I go to Windows Task Manager I find two 2 copies of msimn.exe running. If I end one, they both close and I can boot into OE and all is well again.
Doesn't seem to have any consistency, nor does it matter which ID I am switching from/to.
I just switched from an old microsoft router to a Linksys wireless router to accommodate my new laptop. Everything seems to work fine... except that the preview images in Google Image search won't show up now. My browser says "Connecting to tbn0.google.com" but I've left it for a few minutes and it never downloads the thumbnail images. I'm able to click through to the full image. I also just noticed this morning that the postsecret page isn't displaying images either...
I have 3 computers going through the router (2 wired, 1 wireless) and they are all having the same problem. I tried my laptop on another connection last night and it worked correctly.
Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this?
Thanks in advance!

I have 2 XP Pro OS's on my PC which work fine except every time I switch the
Keyboard Elite for Bluetooth has to be removed and reinstalled for it to
work. The mouse continues to work throughout. The appropriate drivers have
been installed. The KB shows in the devices but is immobilised.
Any ideas how to stop this behaviour?
I am running Windows XP and attempting to switch my browser to Firefox but windows, or something else, is not allowing me to do it. I clicked on the above Download TSG SysInfo tab and then the save file button but nothing appeared here or on my desktop. I chose Firefox as my browser after the install but only got a few toolbars open on my desktop, all my program tabs I had with Windows did not switch over to the Firefox. Icon. I am at a loss of what to do. In the past I had no problem switching back and forth.
When I want to switch over to other user the computer tells me that it is locked and need password? Get error message 97fd25d54e With my wifes name and if i do it on my side get same message, How did this happen as we use no passwords to switch sides?

Hi all my PC recently starting making a type of high buzzing sound buzzing is the best word I can think of to describe it It makes this sound whenever I do anything literally ANYTHING like switching it on logging in loading a broswer page video even scrolling up and down with my mouse The reason I etc.) with off, my (buzzing, slow, PC switching Problem m worried about this is because whenever I do something that is tasking for the PC like loading a Problem with my PC (buzzing, slow, switching off, etc.) - minute video the buzzing noise raises as if it s struggling to load it then the computer itself completely switches off it doesn t prompt me with anything or show me the shut down screen it just instantly switches off and the only way I can boot it back up is if I unplug the power lead from the plug in the wall rather than the back of the computer leave it for maybe seconds then plug it back in It allows me to switch it back on then but the buzzing noise persists and obviously at one point it will shut off again when I m doing watching something I have some knowledge of computer hardware what goes where and the like but some of the small fixed in stuff is algebra to me I ve opened the computer and done some trail and error everything was cleaned all the fans are working fine nothing is loose and everything looked to be as it should be so while I was simply listening for were the problem would be while the computer tower was open I m sure it s coming from the power supply area The cables in the computer are fine and it seems that the noise is coming from the centre of the supply box I don t know if it will help but here is a picture of were the sound is coming from http i photobucket com albums n Mistanuu Untitled png while it was open and switched on nothing was rattling about or vibrating from what I could see and feel it just creates the high buzzing bleeping noise If it comes down to me having to buy a new power supply or anything of the like I want to be completely sure I have to if need be I d really appreciate any input you guys have and any help or solution to the problem would be brilliant cheers nbsp
Yes, I'm afraid you need a new power supply
I lost my power lead for my Acer Travelmate 280 laptop and purchased a universal one. Everything worked fine apart from the AC connection to the laptop kept falling out and I had to wiggle it abit to get it connected.
Yesterday I couldn't boot from the battery at all. Without the AC supply nothing happened. With the AC supply it boots up and works, windows even charges the battery as normal. When i disconnect the battery or the power supply the laptop turns off within a few seconds. Even if i boot the laptop without the battery but just with the AC it will not work.
Have i damaged something that switches the power between AC and the battery with my wiggling or is it something else?
Would be great if someone could help me with this, has anyone had any problems with laptops switching from AC to battery power? Or does anyone know where the best place to try is?
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro.
Problem: Sometimes I cannot switch between 2 languages.
I use left (shift+Alt).
It "fixed" only when I reinstall the language that I cannot switch into or when I re-log into windows.
I had the same problem In windows 7 and I fixed it by creating new keyboard combination to switch between languages. But I cannot find the Article how to do it on windows 8 pro.

when i go to switch identities in outlook express and click on 'OK' to switch, sometimes outlook express just goes away and won't come back until i restart computer.
running XP pro. any suggestions?
There's a workaround in the MS KB article, May Not Be Able to Switch Identities When Using Outlook Express Version 6.0.
There are also a number of articles linked to on this page dealing with OE and identity problems. Hopefully, one of them will provide the fix.

I'm an owner problem GPU switching Nvidia Optimus- of an N Jv Asus notebook with Nvidia optimus technology which is supposed to change GPU from integrated intel card Nvidia Optimus- GPU switching problem to Geforce m dedicated card depending on what application are you trying to run The thing is it doesn't work as it's supposed to when starting games with launcher like Dragon Age II or Crysis it won't switch itself to Geforce What is peculiar about my case is Nvidia Optimus- GPU switching problem that it worked flawlessly about an week ago I've tried reinstalling drivers using the newest Nvidia drivers as well as versions from Asus support nothing worked The last time it happened i had to reinstall Windows but it didn't solve the problem right away- a few days after the reinstall it started to cooperate I can't find a link between what I did and why it stopped to work I know my problem is popular but I haven't found a solution that worked for me yet Can anyone give me a piece of advice for what to do
Are you using the Optimus toolkit? And specified applications in particular to use the high performance GPU?
You didn't say if you have done this, so just trying to see what you have been doing.
Hi. I do not have sound. I used to have a a Soundblaster Audigy and GeForce 9500 GT card. Today I got a GTX 285 and there wasn't room for the Audigy in there too (plus it was starting to break. I've wanted to take it out for a while). I uninstalled all of its drivers and software. I turned the computer off to switch out the hardware. Before I completely rebooted, I went into the bios and made sure that the onboard device was enabled. But it's not working. Like I said, I don't have room in to even fit the Audigy back in there if I wanted to so I really need to figure out how to enable it. Thx.
Sorry about that, I was being a real noob. I never bothered to install it with the mobo software before I've never had to use it. My bad.

Don't you have the option to just switch users as this would not log a user off(which would close everything) and instead it leaves them logged on and lets you select another user. I've had several programs/internet windows up and never had any problems with them closing just from switching users. Any further details you could provide would be wonderful, like do you have the option to switch users when you hit start -> shutdown?
Hi, i have a similar problem with this person here
Yes, very similar. I tried disabling the intel display adapter from device manager, restarted and max screen resolute is 1024x768 and not 1366.768.
MY specs are,
Acer 4750G i7
Nvidia Geforce 540M
I pressed F2 to go into Bios but there isnt any menu for me to change primary adapters or etc. Or maybe it could be another BIOS?
Help would be greatly apreciated.
Well, this is the nature of Nvidia's Optimus Technology. For basic tasks (usage) that aren't GPU intensive, the system automatically switches to Intel's onboard graphics to save power (better battery life). But when you decided to do some serious gaming or watch HD movies, the system switches to the 540M to meet performance expectations. While there isn't a definitive solution to this problem, you will find an option in the NVIDIA control panel to set the GPU (540M) as your preferred option. You will need to look for this.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/419567/problem-switching-intel-hd-grapphic-to-nvidia/
I'm using a Dell Inspiron with Windows XP Pro SP First of all my original problem had been switching the display from my laptop's LCD monitor to my external CRT monitor single display not dual display because as far as I know Inspiron 's don't support the extended desktop feature Anyway I figured out how to get the external CRT and display drivers switching Problem installing to be the primary display by way of the Fn F-number key feature on my Problem switching display and installing drivers latop's keyboard It works and all but I'm unable to switch the displays manualy using WIndows XP Properties gt Settings gt I used to be able to go into the settings and manually select which display I wanted I Problem switching display and installing drivers also have an S-Video-to-TV video-in video cable and I had even been able to manually select that to put the display on my TV At this time I can no longer find that feature so I figured it must be something with my vide card or the graphics drivers I was trying to reinstall the graphics drivers that I was instructed to by Dell's website Drivers and Downloads for Dell Inspiron But each time I tried to install them I was given error messages that said I didn't have the propper hardware error message and error message I am completely baffled as to why I would get these messages because I've reinstalled Windows XP Pro on my laptop plenty of times for my own reasons and I've never encountered a problem like that Any ideas as to why I would be geting those messages Anyone's help assistance would be greatly appreciated Thanks Zach
What type of video adapter is installed? You may get better results with reference drivers from the manufacturer of that chip.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/problem-switching-display-and-installing-drivers-86916.html
Just the other day, Fast User Switching stopped working.
I get no errors, and when I check the checkbox to enable it, I go back and it is unchecked. I have went to services.msc and enable both FastUserSwitching and Terminal Services, but still, nothing works. Hopefully someone has the answer.
I have looked for many hours, but all the solutions do not work. There arn't that many. It seems like this a problem that not many have fixed.http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/fast-user-switching-problem-still-unsolved-392351.html
I ll be the first to admit I m not the most computer literate so maybe someone can help me My old computer used as a backup at work stopped working the power supply apparently went out and fried the motherboard I ve purchased a used machine and it said the hard drive had been wiped clean no operating system I thought I could just switch the hard drive from my old machine which had Windows XP on it into the machine I purchased However when I start it up I get a warning that quot something apparently has changed quot and offers the choice of going into safe mode last good configuration or simply to restart windows No matter what choice it just loops back to the same Solved: drives problem Switching hard choices Now I have noticed it may not be anything but it just didn t look right Solved: Switching hard drives problem to me When it s going through the startup process I see quot Primary Master Disk HDD S M A R T Capacity Disabled quot Does that sound correct If not how do I change it to enabled nbsp
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ11S, and every time i remove my headphones all sound stops working unless i restart the programme, for instance i can be listening to something off itunes, unplug my headphones and the music pauses and won't play again unless i close and reopen it. This also happens with firefox, and i presume other applications, though i have yet to try this. This is a recent development, everything worked fine until a few days ago when i deleted some old programmes i dont use, games and suchlike. I'm pretty much certain i didn't delete anything vital, though i guess its a possibility. Is there anything i can do?
It sounds like its a jack sensing problem, what type of sound card do you have?
This information can be found by click Start>Right click Computer>Properties>Device Manager> Then click the "+" symbol next to Sound, Video and game controllers. The type of sound device you have should be located in there.
This problem seemed to coincide with a new monitor. I had changed some of the services, but Terminal Services and Fast User Switching are set to manual and have started. The option to switch user in the control panel is ticked.
When I go to switch user from the welcome screen, the other user begins to load and then flashes back to the welcome screen. Any ideas of how to fix this?
I also recently uninstalled Norton Security as I was having the ccApp.exe shutdown problem.
First of all hi to all, I just joined these forums. My problem concerns the above notebook which does not want to power on. I already checked that the power supply is giving an ouput voltage. Also the battery is fully charged. Any ideas why it is not switching on?
Hi guy's just wondering if it's possible to get windows 7 to switch audio drivers when you switch to another user account.
For eg.. normal speakers device for my personal account and then have my multichannel device (profire 2626) set as default for my other user account 4 studio work.
Atm, if i change it on one account it changes on the other account which is annoying and i'd just like to set default device for each account so i don't have to do this.
I don't think this is really possible since the sound settings apply globally. I'm curious why you want to do this, though...http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/191138-switching-drivers-when-switching-users.html

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate on HP DV5 Laptop with 4GB RAM. Latest Malware definitions are updated on Microsoft Security Essentials and regular scan is also done.
I have the Micorsoft Ofice 2003 which mostly works fine with all applications.
Only in Excel 2003 I have a strange problem. If I happen to open an excel file ( Workbook) with multiple excel sheets, then I don't know for what reason the computer always pauses and takes some reasonable time in switching the views between worksheets. This usually happens when I try to click via mouse or less often in when i switch the worksheet via keyboard (Ctrl+Shift+PgUp/PgDn). It is not affected by the auto calculate settings in the options which automatically recalculates all formulas/values when switching sheets and hence taking time.
I am wondering that has anyone else got the same problem and a possible cure for it.
Thanks in Advance.

I formatted a technika 2GB, that i bought from tesco, from FAT to NTSF and then copied 201 songs onto it. Each time that i switch it on, display shows ' Media Entertainment' then turns off.It does not play the music. Can anyone help please?
Instead of NTFS try formatting it to FAT32.
I am trying to switch a Dell computer from Windows NT4 to Windows 95. I'm not sure where to begin...but I've heard that I need to start in DOS mode. I don't seem to have that option in the restart menu of NT4. I was given this computer and don't have any start up disks or cd's ...looks kind of hopeless. Any help given would be very much appreciated!
Has anyone here had any success in switching mobo's over from VIA to NF2 without having to re-format and re-install the OS? Seems like a lot of extra crap to go through to change mobo's.
Seems like there would be some way to delete or clean out all the VIA drivers?? Mike
changing motherboards is nearly always call for a reformat seeing as just about everything (IDE, AGP, System, USB etc) drivers are replaced. You might be able to unistall the VIA drivers but other than that a reformat is best for speed and stabilty.
Hope that helps
Hey techspot Omg it s been like a year since I last posted xD Ok so here s the deal I m moving hard drives and swapping out motherboards and I want to transfer the files from this hard drive to the next the data not the O S I was just wondering if it s possible to install the new HDD and then plug in the old HDD w o messing up with the boot file so that I can transfer files w o having to use a third-party s removable hard drive due to the fact that the current hard drive has a boot file too durr F so I didn t know if they could conflict with each other I didn t know if you knew a HDD could do that same or over HDD's Switching if there would be boot conflics note that the new Switching over HDD's HDD is SATA and the old is IDE If you can t tell I suck at hardware xD Give me some software to code and I can do it talk to me about boot files and hard drive configurations and I blank out xD Anyway thanks for any answers guys Sorry I ve been away soo long xD I feel so stupid for asking this since I m pretty sure that if you set the BIOS to boot from HDD it will only boot from that HDD but knowing my luck I thought I d get an exact answer from someone nbsp
I recommend doing it the way that you want to
I can't tell you how many thousands of times I have plugged another HardDrive in internally, then backed up, without issue. (as long as not set to boot from the secondary harddrive )
It is possible that Windows (not the boot part though) may assign different drive letters to your CD\DVD drive or new HardDrive
This is normal
When the HardDrive is later removed
And Windows starts up again (with the original HardDrive)
Any drive letter change will return to as it was before
Note: C: will not change drive letters (but external USB drives may <- eg just for the sake of the argument)
Go for it :grinthumb

At the beginning of last year I put together a new box with a 1.5 T WD cav. blk. Installed W7 and was up and running. Because of family matters I never got to use it very much. during that time I purchased an OCZ Agility 4. Decided to replace the WD with the OCZ. Thought it would be a snap! disconnected the WD and connected the OCZ. Put the W7 disc in and the first thing it asked for was a driver? Boy was I surprised! After reading the post on drivers I now know I will have to go to OCZ for drivers. My question is I remember reading about a way you could transfer your operating system from your HDD to a SSD. Is there any one out there that could give me some info on this? It sure would help not to have to start from scratch. Thank you for any help or info!
You can clone your HDD to the SSD with Acronis TrueCopy from OCZ website:
I am currently running 98se and would like someone tell me; step by step, how to change over to XP.
How to save and backup and install properly...
I've been using a intel cam in my usb port, and just tried out another dig camera on my serial port. when i took the serial port one away the usb port one wouldn't work anymore.
I've tried unplugging it and replugging it and rebooting but still no cam. can anyone help me on this. do i need to re-install everything or something.
Your video software is probably looking for the camera on the serial port now.
If it has configuration settings somewhere, you may be able to tell it that the camera is USB, not serial.
If not, you will have to reinstall the software.

I was wondering if anyone knows how to move Windows 7 license from one PC to another. I originally installed it on my desktop to try it out but I want to move it to my laptop.
Either change the license key of Windows 7 on your desktop, or format the drive so that it's no longer in use (it is against the EULA to use the same license on multiple machines at once). If you ran out of activations you will need to call up Microsoft and explain the situation.http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/25236-switching-pcs.html
I'm currently running Windows Vista and XP in dual boot on separate hard drives. It's really annoying to have to restart my PC and fart around with the bios settings to boot from the hard drive (OS) I want.
Intel Q6600 Duo Quad
My first question: Is there any way I can choose which hard drive/operating system I want to boot up from a windows splash screen?
Secondly: In an ideal world I want to be able to switch between operating systems (Vista/XP per example) whilst in one or the others explore screen (desktop). I have researched programs like VirtualPC but would like to know if there is there another way of doing this without forking out for the software?
Thanks in advance
The only way you can switch between OS in windows is how you already mentioned virtually.
To dual boot it is better if both the OS's are on the same drive in separate partitions.
This way through a boot loader the default will OS will load unless you choose a different OS at startup
Another way is two pc's and switch between using a kvm switch, which is what I use here also good for backup
I've had enough of "getting used to" Win 8. I am going to instal Win 7 and get 8 off my laptop. The question is whether to go with Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit (OEM) System Builder DVD 1 Pack (Software) or Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit (OEM) System Builder DVD 1 Pack.
I am not a builder, just an end user. I have read where someone had trouble when he installed 7 over 8 but used the home edition and when he changed out the hard disc it wouldn't let him reinstall 7. I don't mind paying the extra if its needed but I do not want a lot of extra gear meant for system builders.
Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.
Hiya pal and welcome to the forums ...

Use of this OEM System Builder Channel software is subject to the terms of the Microsoft OEM System Builder License. This software is intended for pre-installation on a new personal computer for resale. This OEM System Builder Channel software requires the assembler to provide end user support for the Windows software and cannot be transferred to another computer once it is installed. But here's the comparison between the different versions

That topic has been subject of several painful headaches for me. I have tried searching the forum but can't seem to find the answer.
I am currently running Vista 32 And would like to switch to 64. My system is 64 compatible And i have 4 gig of ram.
1 : where do I get the software. I have a genuine 32 bits.
2 : how could i backup my whole system ?
3 : is there a free upgrade (or discount) for Windows 7
thank you !
Unless you recently purchased your computer and have a coupon to upgrade to Win 7, you're gonna have to buy the OS.

you can purchase with educational pricing if you qualify.
Otherwise, you can purchase from vendors such as www.tigerdirect.com
So I am switching to Verizon DSL And i am happy as hell. But I have some concerns with playing my Playstaton2 online. I found out I need a Rj-45 ethernet network connector if i want to hook it into my dsl connectionhttp://www.us.playstation.com/support.aspx...or/D008697.htmlbut would I want to do that? I thought I had to hook it into my router. Or somthing. Do any of you guys play your Playstation2 online with verizon dsl? How do you do it?
Hook up the Sony Network adapter to your PS2, plug the cable into your router, and fire it up.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/1340/switching-to-dsl/
Ok, so my birthday is comming up and I was thinking of upgrading my RAM in my laptop. It currently has 2GB and I want to upgrade it to 5GB. I know I will need to have 64 Bit Windows 7 to take advantage of all that RAM. Will it be possible to reinstall Windows only using the 64 Bit version and use the Key that I got with my laptop? I heard that it is interchangable as long as you don't switch versions (like from Home Premium to Ultimate) and don't switch computers.
The easiest way to go would be to upgrade to 4GB or 6GB, but 5GB? it's kind of senseless (no offense, senseless in a "weird" way) because you'd have to buy a 2GB module and a 1GB one..
BTW, try to find the same RAM vendor/model and timings, mixing RAMs is not a good idea
had to switch pc off and didnt close down as normal ie via start menu am now getting two choices either f2 or f11 how do i start windows xp as previous ? many thanks in advance for any help
Hello; First time poster here,I upgraded to Windows 7 home 32 bit from xp and would like to install 64 bit. Can it be overwritten without losing programs or will I have to start from scratch like when I installed over xp? I realise drivers will have to be updated to 64 bit versions but can that be done later?
You will have to start over I'm afraid.http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/38853-switching-32-64-bit.html
Presently have my desktop pc connected via an ethernet cable to my house Router.
The Router talks to my Comcast box.
If I get an additional PC for my kid, due to space limitations, they would both be located pretty close
to each other.
We can share a single Monitor between us by just using one of those HDMI switches, but would rather
not switch physically the Ethernet cable.
Could a new PC connect to the Internet wirelessly via the Router, while leaving the original
PC connected via the Ethernet cable ?
Good way or doing it, poor approach ? Caveats, etc. ?
Better approach ?
1 pc wired and 1 pc wifi is fine, ditto 2 wired. Usually wired is faster than wifi. As for monitor sharing, depending on your pc outputs and monitor inputs, it might be possible to have the 2 pc's connected, and switch using a button on the monitor ie select input.http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/385300-switching-between-two-pcs.html
Hi, I have an Inspiron 5555, and I'm thinking about changing my Hard drive to an ssd. does anyone have any suggestions, and how would this affect my Dell warranty?
As long as you do not break any of the Dell shipped hardware when adding any 3rd party hardware, the warranty is still good. But if you were to crack the case cover or damage the motherboard pins while doing this, we would not cover them.http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19996195
I've always hated IE and loved Firefox, but Firefox seems to be going downhill on the stability side. Mine crashes all the time, even without extensions or anything. IE8 is performing very very well for me on Windows 7. I hate to say this, but I think Firefox is dying.
have had firefox do that to me before -- a complete uninstall (wiping all user files) then reinstall recovered it -- bookmarks/passwords etc all backed up so nothing lost ..... never thought of going back to IE, never had to.
First browser I used much was netscape whose code firefox is based on ... didn't think much of IE when it came along with Win95 ... nothing much changes there
I have a shoddy stock 40gb Maxtor Hard Drive and i want to replace it with my Samsung 400gb Hard Drive. How can i copy all the files (system files and everything) from the 40gb hdd to my 400gb hdd. So my computer starts up and runs fine with just the 400gb hard drive plugged in, help appreciated.
You'll need to clone the 40 to the 400. Seagate (and maybe samsung) have a utility that can do that for you. Or you could use Norton Ghost or Acronis TrueImage or something like that, but those cost money.

was on wp for many yrs but earlier this yr the wife & I decided to buy ourselves the new galaxy phones on android. main reason is the apps. her friends had different apps then her & I was missing my sports apps & some music ones that I wanted. overall have been very unhappy with the android system & WOULD LOVE to switch back. ? is, has anything changed? amazon music, bleacher report & a good working Instagram & fb app is enough to bring me back but is it worth the money about to be spent. any help would be appreciated. thanx in advance
When was the last time you tried it out? There has been a number of changes. No Amazon Music though, and I don't know about Bleacher Report to answer that. Instagram is great on Windows 10 Mobile and is actually updated decently. I don't use Facebook to tell you how that is.http://forums.windowscentral.com/ask-question/441032-os-switching.html
