Can't even install Windows Installer Clean Up

Q: Can't even install Windows Installer Clean Up

I was having problems installing Adobe Reader 9.2 (had previous version[s]) so I downloaded the Windows Installer Clean Up Setup (was supposed to take care of the problem). I can't even it install it itself though! Any idears? Using 64-bit Home Vista if makes a difference.

P.S. I can't even quit the WICUS installer to boot.

Preferred Solution: Can't even install Windows Installer Clean Up

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey,
I have a Dell inspiron 8600 laptop, on which I recently formatted the hard disk and re-installed both Windows XP Professional and SuSE linux 9.3.

My problem is that sometimes the windows installer (when installing either a random program, windows update or anti-virus update) will just hang and not complete the installation. After this happens, the windows installer becomes unstable and refuses to initiate properly for most installation needs.

Help guys, this has happened to me 3 times now, all on clean installs with most (if not all) of the windows updates applied.

Programs where it has failed:

Belken Bluetooth adapter software installation.
Samsung mobile phone software.
Windows Update.
Symantec internet security update.

It may also be worth noting that the drivers Dell gave me for the on-board sound card do not install, as it tells me that it cannot find the hardware.

Cheers

Having four versions of Java Runtime Environment, I decided to uninstall the older versions using JavaRa. Afterward, I installed Java Runtime Environment 6 update 16. However, it is not detected by Java's website, and applications that utilize it, such as Limewire, are now disabled.

The obvious course of action, was to use "Add or Remove Programs" to uninstall the JRE. However, Java 6 update 7, which has already been deleted, returns "Internal Error 2753. RegUtils," upon uninstallation, and Java 6 update 16 returns a "Fatal error during installation." Now, the "Uninstall" button for Java 6 update 16 has disappeared entirely.

Java suggests that if I cannot uninstall the JRE files via "Add or Remove Programs," that I should use Windows Installer Clean Up Utility. Unfortunately, the utility which should contain a fully populated list:

... is totally empty. Is there any alternative way to uninstall Java or fix the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility?

Any idea on how?

A:How do you clean out the C:\Windows\Installer folder?

Welcome to the Se7en Forums! blinxwang

When looking in that folder here and finding a lengthy list of temp sub folders used for the original installation of MS Office 2010 beta and other programs I simply hightlighted and right clicked on the entire contents found and simply chose the delete option to send them on their way since they were no longer needed. Now all I see when looking there is an empty folder without having any effect on the programs that saw subs there. Windows likes to hold onto files that lack installer cleanup functions.

Hi, I am trying to remove an old version of itunes and came across older posts which seemed to be helpful. The main thing seemed to be to run the above mentioned software. I have looked at it but am reluctant to run it as it warns about permanent changes to my system and that I may have to reinstall some or all applications on the list (being somewhat computer illiterate the list looks huge). Can anyone tell me if I'd need to do that as there's a lot of stuff on that list I've no idea where to find it? Grateful for any replies.

My \windows\installer folder was 4GB so I searched for a way to reduce it and found the download Windows Installer Clean Up. Unfortunately it does more than clean up. It renders the application unusable if you remove the installer information. (eg MS Office unusable now).
This is not a "clean up" it is an "uninstall". I understood this folder contained info related only to the recovery of apps - not info required for their ongoing function. Huge difference. (I took a backup of the installer folder before using the utility - and I copied back all the files - and re-booted - but that does not seem to resolve my problem.)
Any way out? (Other than to re-install everything and give my 4GB back to Microsoft).

Hi I have looked through solutions for this issue but the suggestions don't seem to fix my issue I am running Windows SP Pro -bit on a Dell Optiplex and try to do a clean install of Windows using the ISO file which I downloaded from Microsoft amp burnt on to a DVD before - Windows hard drive install up doesn't show install clean 10 and instructions from the tutorial on here which are very good I downloaded the correct -bit version I boot from the DVD enter my region UK and choose custom install and then my hard drive does not show up on the list of where you would like to install I have all my USB's unplugged except keyboard mouse I tried deleting my partions using MiniTool Partition Wizard bootable DVD so that the entire disk is unallocated That didn't fix it I also tried creating a new partition NTFS of the entire drive to get one Primary NTFS partition That didn't work I also tried setting that partition as 'active' The same Before formatting etc I tried a boot from the Windows install DVD and the hard drive does show up unlike the Windows DVD Do you think it's an issue with the Windows installer I downloaded another version of Win from the MS Tech Bench page but same issue After formatting etc during the Windows boot I tried another suggestion to open up Command Prompt Shift F and ran 'diskpart' - and no drives are found I checked the Bios and it was there So presumably that is the issue If i ran 'diskpart' with my prior Windows install diskpart showed up the hard drive no problem If i try with a newer Seagate USB external hard drive i have plugged in the Windows install does pick up amp Windows 10 clean install - hard drive doesn't show up before install list that drive and marks it as 'windows can't be installed there' So perhaps it is my creaky old hard drive But i did see other people install Win on similar age pc's Any advice would be much appreciated Cheers Simon

A:Windows 10 clean install - hard drive doesn't show up before install

Welcome toTenforums, Simon.

I am a little concerned that the Windows 10 setup program on DVD does not have drivers to properly see and interrogate the system on your PC so that the hard drive is visible. It's the second similar case on this forum that I've seen recently. You also seem to be trying to clean install on an empty PC - is this correct, because if you do so It will not activate.

After much to-ing and fro-ing, it was finally possible to *copy the Sources folder from the setup ISO file onto a partition on the hard drive, and run the setup from there, where it wasn't possible to boot from the DVD, even though it worked elsewhere.

If you still have Windows 7 installed (and you should do for Windows 10 activation purposes - if just to obtain a genuine ticket for digital entitlement), and you have the ISO download available, the solution is fairly simple. If you haven't you will need the Windows 7 key to activate the install.

You seem pretty PC savvy so, I'd ask you to follow the bolded instructions from the * in the 5th para above.

This is what is happening. A friend gave me his DELL Inspririon 531 2007 Desktop. It has a pirated copy of 7 ultimate x64 (which I am not sure if this supports 64 bit). Prior to looking into how old the machine was, I was able to install 8.1 64 bit. But it wouldn't allow me to install any drivers from the DELL site. Said that the machine wasn't compatible. So, I tried with Windows 7 32 bit and I am getting this error. I have deleted all partitions, but now, I do not have that option when I choose Custom-advanced. There is no Delete option.

A few times I got the error at 5% other times at over 60%. What can I do to get this to install? It is a legit DVD of windows. Why would it have allowed 8.1 to successfully install now it is doing this? What files are missing? I have tried both deleting the partitions and not deleting. Same result.

Ever since I upgraded to the XP Service Pack 2, I've had nothing but problems. The most annoying of which being Windows Installer/InstallShield won't install anything. It appears like it will install, then stops when it says 'Configuring Windows Installer', then I get this message '1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime'

I have checked out the support at the InstallShield website. They address the issue on the site, but none of the solutions help.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any possible solutions.

Thanks in advance.

I believe it originally had Windows 7 Premium home edition on it and I updated it to Windows 7 SP1 Premium Home Edition.

I am having many issues with the OS and wish to either do a repair or a clean install. I'd rather do a repair so as not to have to reinstall everything, but if a clean install is recommended I can do that instead.

How do I go about it, without an installation disc?

A:How do I repair or do a clean install with no Windows 7 install disc?

Hello and welcome Alicia now hopefully you have all your data backed up because what I am going to suggest will wipe it and reset the machine to as it came out of the factory because it will have a special recovery partition for just tis sort of situation..

See this https://lionpress.wordpress.com/2008...tory-settings/

The alternative is to get an ISO for the version you have from somewhere and use the orih=gianl code to activate it.

Another thing you can do is read through this as it will describe how you can use any Windows DVD - a friends or family members one just read it thoroughly if that is what you want to do but make sure you read the bit about the ei.cfg removal tool Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

I'm looking to buy a new laptop, seen a few models I like and they all come with windows 7 pre-installed. Problem is they all also come with a dozen or so pre-installed pieces of freeware/shareware/trial software that I have no use for and don't want and I would like to do a clean install of windows 7 when I buy to get rid of all these. How should I go about doing this?

I'll ask the vendors if they could provide me with some sort of recovery CD that will install the operating system and none of the junk but they might say no (I've done a bit of googling and have read they make money off including all these programmes). If they don't give me anything then could I get by with just purchasing an upgrade DVD even though I obviously won't be upgrading anything, just trying to go from bloated windows 7 to non-bloated version.

Thanks for help.

A:Clean install to replace existing windows 7 install

Hello Third Man, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You can just uninstall the bloatware software that comes with the computer in "Programs and Features" in the Control Panel just like in Vista below. Otherwise you would have to purchase a separate retail copy of Windows 7 to do a clean install with, then install all of your drivers.

Uninstall or Change a Program - Vista Forums

Hope this helps,

You don`t repair your windows installer, you either buy a new one, or you download the iso file of the version you need and burn it to dvd.

I reinstalled windows XP home edition with SP2 on my laptop and since then, the automatic update promts me to install Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1.
I hit install and after trying to install it, it says it was unsuccesfull....

Do I need to install this update? And if so, HOW?

If I don't, how do I stop it from showing up on the automatic update?

A:Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 Won't Install

Hello,That is an interesting error. If automatic updates refuses to instal the file, you should try instaling it manually. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en this is a link to the windows instaler page. Also, to stop an update showing in your update list, simply expand the update in question by clicking the plus sign and select the check box saying a variation of exclude from future searches.

It seems as if you have done a poor un-installation of Office. Only ever un-install programs using the Add/Remove function in Control Panel.

Try reinstalling the Office package, restart, un-install from add/remove, restart then open Internet Explorer.

This should fix your problem.

Something has happened that now prevents us running MSI installs. Basically nothing happens, no errors or anything in the event log except this when I have to manually kill the msiexec.exe

"The Windows Installer service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 3 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 0 milliseconds: No action. "
We've installed the latest windows installer, we've tried reinstalling sp4 but not luck.

any ideas?

I recently purchased software that requires that various Microsoft components be installed, including Microsoft Installer (MSI) version 4.5. I have tried to download the MSI 4.5 (WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe file) from Microsoft website but it will not install and leaves me with my current MSI version 3.1. During install of MSI 4.5 I get an "access denied" error, then computer undoes the changes and restarts leaving me with the MSI 3.1.

What would cause my system to not allow for the MSI 4.5 version to replace the 3.1, This is leaving me unable to install my recent software purchase.

Try this :

Quote:

Delete all temporary files.

a. Restart the computer.
b. Click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer, or double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
c. Click anywhere in the Address bar to select it. (If you do not see the Address bar, then right-click the blank area to the right of Help. On the menu that appears, click Address bar.)
d. Type %temp% and then press Enter:
e. The Temp folder for the currently logged-on user displays.
f. In most cases, you can safely delete the contents. If you are not sure, then copy any files or folders to a different location. To delete the contents, click the Edit menu, and then click Select All.
g. Press Delete, and then click Yes if prompted to confirm.

See if it helps.

Ok Ive had this problem for about 2 weeks now.
Hardly anything will install without crashing. Im downloading what should be the correct installers of many things like java, shockwave and a lot more applications and they all crash within the first few stages within the installer and I get the error report thing. Same with AIM... It messes up 90% of the time I open it but it managed to install. MSN wont install either.
BUT ironicly. Every single VST and VSTi (theyre just plugins for music creation software... .ddls) Ive installed work - same with all my music apps.

One thing I tried was reinstalling windows installer. No luck - it did install but everything still messes up.

Im running XP SP2 on this machine simply because everything should work on it. Its the Professional 2002 version. I have 2GB of ram and a Q6600 quad core(this may be causing the problem, I dunno)

Thanks

After booting up and loading the desktop, icons, etc., I get a window that says Windows Installer is installing something, then configuring something called "Photogallery". While this is going on, I get another window saying something about Norton not supporting the repair function and to uninstall and reinstall. When I first bought my Gateway compurter in Jan. I tried to install Outlook on my laptop. It did not install. Instead, on startup every time, the computer automatically pops up Windows Installer and I have to cancel it. This is a nusiance. I still would like to have Outlook installed but I don't know how to do so.
Thanks.

A:How can I stop windows installer at start-up and install Windows Outlook on my comput

Hey, see if windows installer is in your startup entries:

- Open the start menu
- Type "msconfig.exe" in the search bar
- Press enter to open msconfig
- Goto the startup tab
- Look through these entries for "windows installer" or the path to windows installer
- If you find it:
> uncheck the box next to it
> click ok and restart to check
- If not:
> Post back and i'll do some reading into it

Cheers,
Jamey

I believe someone playing with my PC erased an important file. System restore will not work, although all my restore points are there. Add\remove programs has disappeared from programs as well as a number of programs are not functioning. I can access the internet OK.

Windows update says Windows installer 3.1 needs to be installed. When I proceed with the install, I keep getting the following error message.
The file c:\windows\system32\msi.dll is open or in use by another application. I have tried to find out what is running or being used by this application and I can not find or figure it out.

Windows installer repeatedly tries to install "Roxio Media Manager"...and I must use the Task Manager to cancel. The program cannot install because it requests a disc to be inserted, and I have no such disc, nor did I ask to install this Roxio program. Can anyone tell me how to abort this repeated installation attempt? It just pops up over and over and over!
I'm using Windows XP with all service packs installed. I've tried the Microsoft "Fix It' program...did not help.

Greetings Oh wise ones...

I am Running Dell 8300 Dinension/ XP/ SP3/ 512 Mem/ Intel 4/
My Canon printer died, so got a Used, (but known working in good condition) HP Photosmart 2410xi All-in-One
and have not been able to install it in spite of every suggested method by HP. I now notice that the Windows
Installer file is missing from the Services, and it had been there 2 days before this Install effort started.
It appears that all the dependencies required for the Installer are in place and started, but IT is not listed.
I can't figure what went wrong, but any suggestions to recover it will be appreciated. Of course every attempt to
install the printer drives, runs into the missing Windows Installer problem.

Thanks in advance for your usually prompt and learned advice.

My Windows installation is many years old and gone through many hardware changes software installations and uninstallations and Windows itself has been getting progressively slower buggier and prone to odd crashes and hang ups I decided to try repairing the installation C:\ as install Windows sets C:\ its path own cannot to - 7 installer with my original install disc but found that my DVD drive is no longer functional Having used the official ISO from Microsoft to create a bootable USB for my netbook worked swimmingly Windows 7 installer sets its own path as C:\ - cannot install to C:\ For my desktop not so much When booting from USB on my desktop the Windows installer mounts itself as drive C while detecting my existing Windows installation as being drive D when it is actually and most certainly C I've tried forcing drive paths from within Windows changing boot order switching USB ports all manner of UEFI options pertaining to USB and it always sets the installer as C unable to set the Windows install path to C because C is in use by the installer I'm a bit too paranoid to try repairing Windows for fear of it totally screwing everything up with the forced drive path change and using a drive path other than C for a clean install is at best undesirable Would also prefer not to spend money on a DVD drive that I will in all likelihood use exactly once Motherboard which I'd wager is the culprit is an embarrassingly flashy ASRock P Professional

When my friend goes to install any software, he generally sees a message saying it is starting the Windows Installer, then a popup appears (attached) from Windows Installer that offers on option other than OK. Clicking OK just makes the popup go away, the install does not continue. I tried the install as administrator, did not help. I tried the compatibility troubleshooter, but it errors out without giving any info.

I've tried running the Microsoft tool that they offer for repairing Windows Installer, it finds nothing. I've also tried unregistering and registering msiexec.exe, did not help. Also ran regsvr32.exe /s %windir%\system32\msi.dll

Any ideas what I might try to fix this?

Thanks

A:Cannot install any software - Windows installer popup

Version 5, is that right?

I say it's time for an In-Place Install.

Also, check for Sirefef, it interferes with EXEs. It specifically disables EXEs so you cant install any AV programs so it may be interfering with the installer.

Do the programs that are there run? You can do a quick test for Sirefef- Rename your Windows Defender folder to Windows Defender Old. then try the installer again.

If that dont work, then dig out your Install disk, you gotta do an In-Place Install. But try an SFC /Scannow a few times, and then a DISM to rebuild the windows image, sorry, cant remember the command line - Its in the tutorials, I'll find it.

Here it is:

Hello,

I have a problem that windows trys to install a missing program named Vongo. How do i remove this auto install at startup. Vongo is not needed on my computer.

A:Windows Installer Problem...keeps Trying To Install Vongo

Do you happen to have an HP computer? Apparently Vongo is preloaded on to some HP laptops. (at least all the references I found mentioned laptops)According to Wikipedia "Vongo is a video on demand service, owned by Liberty Media's Starz Entertainment, parent company of the Starz network, that allows the user to download and view movies for a fixed price per month."A quick search for removal of Vongo took me to cnet.com forums where there are 65 posts about Vongo. Apparently there are a lot of people who are unhappy about this being included on their systems. It seems that it's a bear to get rid of, going through Add/Remove to uninstall doesn't work. Here is the link to the cnet forum, you might find something there that will work for you.http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7587_102-0.htm...78&start=60

Hi,

For the past week I have noticed that when I start Windows Live Messenger, the windows installer box comes up and says installing, then the messenger finally opens.

Now I notice that I can't uninstall or install any new programs, and when I do, windows installer says "The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed."

I'm not in safe mode. I've ran spyware scans and virus scans and nothing has came up.. So, I really have no idea what to do. I read to install something called windows installer cleanup, but I can't install any programs whatsoever..

Help is much appreciated:)

My version of Adobe Acrobat Pro 6.0 (I know it is not supported by Adobe) installs sufficiently so that I can use it (mostly). However the request for install the program is still in the Windows Installer. How do I find and rid myself of the command that tries to install Adobe each time I re-boot the system???

I have posted the same question in the apple support forum but I always seem to get better help with such fixes the the people here than with apple support. Thanks in advance for any help here.

You might try the solutions here:

Try disabling any spyware detecting apps first though before doing all the in/un installing, etc. These ideas should work on other versions of MSN.

So I, today, reformatted my PC.

After installing some bare essentials (anti virus and firewall mainly) I then loaded up the website for windows update.

I was prompted to install service pack 3 (after the windows installer update), so I did before anything else. After I restarted, I went to the update site again to do the remaining updates, but after they were downloaded, every install failed.

The same is happening with the Windows Live Installer (as I wish to install windows live messenger). However, I could install Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Media Player 11 with no problems.

Any help would be much, much appreciated. Anything I can do to help with the troubleshooting, just say.

Thank you.

[quick edit: Windows was installed with a service pack 2 era disk. Home edition, too.]

[Edit: After doing the method in this post, it now works.]

So I was backing up my computer last night with SyncBackPro, and encountered a BSOD (kernel_stack_inpage_error). Restarted computer, got other BSODs. Now, I haven't formatted my computer in quite some time, but I have the vast majority of my files backed up. Next, this morning my computer would start up, but it had a different boot screen and no programs will run("gdiplus.dll was not found"). I think I should at least do a repair install of XP, but I only have a SP1 disk from Dell. I've read about slipstreaming, but I don't fully understand the idea. Ideas? The computer is old, but has been treated very well. What can I do to revive the computer?

I just got a Clean Install Windows 8 install of without disc? new laptop a Lenovo X for which I paid extra to have the OS on it as Windows Pro So--now I have Clean Install of Windows 8 without install disc? it and Win Pro is installed and activated on it I am a legal Clean Install of Windows 8 without install disc? owner of Win Pro However I would like to do a clean install of Win on the computer to have it free of bloatware etc In fact I would like to set up a multi-boot with Win and perhaps even triple boot with Xp as well I have installation media and my product keys for XP and though so those are not really a problem The computer came with no discs at all There is a procedure to make recovery disks I may do that but I think those will be to restore the computer to how it came from the factory and therefore not usable for a clean install I don't see my product key for Win anywhere Not on the computer not on any kind of card that came with it etc I looked at the tutorial here for clean install of Windows but it requires an install disc and product key I have neither although I am a legal owner of Windows Is there a way I can create from my installed Windows a win install disk that can be used for a clean install Or a link to download one Is there a way I can get my product key Thank you in advance

A:Clean Install of Windows 8 without install disc?

You shouldn't need to enter a product key with an oem machine.

The recovery partition and discs will likely reinstall with all the crapware.

Hard to tell without looking at it. Dell recovery program used to offer an option to reinstall without crapware. Perhaps your oem does also.

Many would like to do a clean install as you describe. Not so easy with win8 oem pre install .

I am running Windows XP professional version 2002.  It has the Service Pack 3.  I am trying to install a scanner from my bank but I receive the following error message:

'The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.'

I worked with the tech support for the scanner.  He tried uninstalling and reloading the driver and each time he attempted an operation got this same error notice.  When he opened the program folder there were no files in it.  He concluded that the driver program was not properly loading and did not have a fix.

Is this error due to Microsoft ending support for XP?  Is it an error in my system?  Anyone have an idea how to handle this?

It's a Dell Dimension 3000 with Pentium4; windows XP home edition and service packs installed. Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

My Mother-in-law pulled out a program disc halfway through installation, which jammed up windows installer (every time windows was started, a message came up saying to please put in the install disc). I fixed that by finishing the installation (putting the disc back in 4 or 5 months later, we don't get to visit much), but during the time she had the problem, which was right when she got the computer, 97 or so Windows Updates downloaded to the computer, but couldn’t install.
These files include everything from the service packs (which are supposed to install by themselves), to critical updates. The computer is very slow at startup, and wants to install the files at shutdown. No error messages, but the files remain there wanting to install.
I just want to find the file where the downloads are sitting, wipe them out, and start again. Any ideas? Windows XP.

Within the last three days my computer running Windows XP has started trying to install Roxio Media Manager. It keeps running over and over again and will not stop.

I have purchased Error Expert to try and stop it but it has not worked. Wondering a couple fo tings. If I totally uninstall Roxio Media Manager will that help? Not sure this would be a good thing but this is driving me crazy.

How do I stop windows installer from trying to install this progam?
