I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:language options - japanese IME does not show, cannot add Japanese keyboard

You would need to change the Unicode to Japanese in the third tab in Regional and Language. Japanese doesn't figure in my list under the first tab either but if you change the Unicode and restart, you may find it on your XP CD and be able to add it in.

After installing suppport for Japanese the system turned completely Japanese, I changed back to English, but for some reason Store refuses to switch, it is stuck in Japanese mode. I can live with it except the apps available are those geared for the Japanese market and I have no way of knowing what I'm missing out on.

I'm trying to get this on my computer so I can play some japanese games that I have. I don't have the proper CD (service pack 2 proffesional) to get East Asian language support, I was hoping that there was another way of going about this. I tryed applocale, but since I don't have accual support for the language, it just plain doesn't work. So could anyone please help? I can't understand why microsoft would make this tottally seperate and not even have a download link on their site to it, is it that hard to add a few asian languages?

I'm taking Japanese currently and need to be able to type Japanese characters. This is supposed to be easy on Windows XP, I've done it before.
I went to control panel > regional and language settings. The drop down menu has just about every language BESIDES Japanese.
I downloaded a Japanese language support file from, but Japanese still does not appear in the list of languages.
What's the deal?

Go to Control Panel | Regional and Language Options. Languages tab. Details. Click Add. Choose tha language you want.

You may need your Windows disk.

After its all done, you should be able to change the layout, just change it using the EN icon that should be near your clock.

Also, note this:

For right-to-left and East Asian languages select Start, Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, the Languages tab, and then select the desired check box under Supplemental language support.

Well, i don't know whats happening. Everytime i formated my pc, i always enabled japanese language, cuz i play lots of games that needs the japanese language to be installed but now, i can't install it

I set it in the language options and it copies the files and reboots the pc, but then it won't be installed. I run the applocale aplication and it doesn't list japanese, when i select it it says its not installed on my pc!!!

After adding the Japanese Writing utility, I now have two taskbars. The second taskbar only shows programs that are running, not the start button, quicklaunch, clock, etc.

It first appeared toward the bottom of the desktop, and I could move it, like a floating toolbar. I moved it to the right side, and now it’s stuck there. If I attempt to move it or right click on it, the computer locks up. I have to CRTL ALT DEL and then restart.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I have a screenshot, but the board won't let me post it.

A:Language Issues, japanese showing instead of English

Even I am facing the same problem. I bought the parts in japan and assembled it but the OS is in English. While installing drivers the installer was in Japanese. Also my keyboard layout is japanese.

Now the programs which I had in English before are getting installed in Japanese when I am doing the installation. I manually changed the language of some programs but I can't find the option in other as they are all in Japanese. I thought it was taking the location from internet and installed without the internet but they still got installed in Japanese.

How do I stop this? Some help would be really appreciated.

I just bought a new laptop (ASUS K53E). I'm currently in Japan and bought laptop here. I'm stuck at the set up page where I have to choose the region and languages. I would prefer English as main language, but I'm afraid I will have problems later with Japanese keyboard, I use both English and Japanese in daily life. There are two things, language and keyboard, that I can choose the language for. And the physical keyboard is Japanese (qwerty with additional buttons).
Also can I add more languages later on? If I plan to add one more language which keyboard is best for initial set up?

Would be grateful for any tips, its a first time I bought laptop outside of Europe.

A:choosing a language for a new laptop English and Japanese

Be sure to make your Recovery Disks and preserve the Recovery partition if you reinstall so that you can revert to the state you received the computer and hopefully make these Setup choices again if needed in the future.

Otherwise languages are only interchangeable when you have Ultimate which provides all of the language packs via optional Windows Updates.

However reinstall with another language is sometimes possible depending upon the region of your license even though the license is language-specific. The choices you have now should also be available by finding an installer for that language to clean reinstall, then activate with the Product Key on COA sticker. However you may have to try it to find out for sure, so be sure to preserve your factory Recovery options and and Win7 backup image of your install after setup.

From what I understand, IE isn't terribly good at processing language packs, I have not had this problem, but you might want to switch to a faster and more adaptive browser, Firefox

Or, if you don't like to tinker, the equally fast Opera

I recently sent my computer in for a replacement hard drive. They installed Chinese input in my language bar (I assume because it's a Taiwanese company). I have tried removing it from Regional and Language Settings, but even when it's not listed in the keyboards section, it keeps showing up in the language bar. Sometimes when I restart it disappears, and sometimes it reappears in the keyboards and the language bar. It's really obnoxious.

Additionally, I often use Japanese input in the language bar (so I don't want to just remove the language bar entirely), but when it's in Half-Width Alphanumeric (English character) mode, it still uses a Japanese keyboard layout (as in ' becomes :, ) becomes (, etc.) . Is there any way to fix this? I never had this problem in XP.

Thank you in advance.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, couldn't spot a Language/Region sub forum.
Anyway, I hope someone can help with the following problem:

1. My PC is a Japanese Dell that came pre-installed with Win 7 Home.
2. I used Windows Anytime Upgrade to bump it up to Win 7 Ultimate.
3. I downloaded and installed the English Language pack so that I could switch the display language between English and Japanese.

Here's the problem:
After switching to English, I can no longer enter text in Japanese
- I'm using a Japanese keyboard, have switched the Locale to Japan and added the Japanese keyboard configuration to "Keyboard and Languages". No joy.
If anyone has any ideas I am all ears!

A:Language Bar/Display Language problem

Hi atwoodruff, welcome to Windows 7 Forums.

You could try a System Recovery. Open Control Panel & select Recovery & see if there is a Recovery Point that you can use, that precedes your current problem.
If that works then just install the updates that will probably show up as being needed, one at a time. Restart your computer after each one & if you find one that causes this problem, uninstall it & then hide it so it does not show up again.

Okay, so last time...I didn't get a single reply. And I kind of forgot about this while I was going around asking questions on several sites. I hope I can get a answer this time.

Well, I started to get into Japanese not too long ago. I bought myself a japanese keyboard to understand how they type and stuff, and I had to look through tutorial after tutorial to finally figure out how to get the proper japanese 106/109 keyboard layout. It was working fine that day UNTIL I restarted the computer cause of window updates. Now, it stopped working, the layout disappeared and I'm confused like no other.

Here's what my IME looks like in Japanese:

It's weird too cause I tried other IME's like Dvorak, Chinese, Korean-they all work fine. So, I don't understand why it's just Japanese. And I'd like this fixed soon if possible.

It is probably OS related as the problem occurs only on XP machines (at least until now). But not all XP shows the wrong characters only some of them.

If I?m duplicating someone else?s threat in the past, I?m sorry.

My computer is running Windows XP and Office XP. I tried to install Global IME Japanese so that I can type in Japanese, but I kept getting a ?Require Office XP? message when it?s already installed. Then, I did some research and found out that I really don?t need to install Global IME. So I did on the Languages tab, under Supplemental language support, select the Install files for East Asian languages check box. But now it asked for CD, which I don?t have. When I bought the tower, Office XP was already installed (no CD). Is there any way to go around it? Or I?m totally doing this all wrong?

Your help would be greatly appreciated!!

I have a problem trying to install a Japanese game, and it just won't install on my Windows 7. Specifically. It installed on my friend's Windows 7 AND on my Windows XP. I don't know WHY it won't install. It's not corrupted, it just has an error when it installs in my system. Even more, it installed without changing the system locale or using AppLocale on my XP. I have tried using AppLocale. I have tried CHANGING the system locale. I even tried running in Compatibility Mode.

A:Problem with installing a Japanese game?

For quite some time on both my laptop and desktop that runs Windows 7 Ultimate. I have quite a bit of music that is in Japanese text and sometimes when I boot up my computer they will show correctly, other times they will appear as boxes. I have the language pack installed, so that cannot be the problem. Another interesting thing is if I copy the boxes and paste them into say Google Chrome, they will show up in their correct format. Would anyone have an idea what is going on?

Thanks for any help.

While trying to install I got an error something about filename, directory name, or volume syntax error.I tried using AppLocale but it seems can't support installer. My PC is using Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Microsoft office XP. After installing IME Japanese, whenever microsoft office software (osa.exe, word, excel...) is runing, there is always a note :
" Microsoft Office XP professional with Frontpage

This feature you are trying to use is on a CD_ROM or another removable disk that is not available.

Insert the "Microsoft Office XP professional with Frontpage" disk then click OK"

But if i click Cancel button, the software is still running.
If i remove IME Japanese, microsoft offices are able to run normally again. Can you tell me how to fix it?
A big Thanks .

This is my first post on this site, so hi.

I set up my IME to allow me to write in Japanese about 5 months ago, and it has been working fine until recently...

The keys have now become 'misaligned', not associated with the correct symbol.
For example, Q through to P is as follows (in hiragana):

The IME toolbar currently looks like this:

Thank you for the assistance in how to resolve this issue.

A:Japanese Vista Internet Connection Problem

While I'm not sure that this is the issue, you can try this to see if it lets you connect. It's a "workaround" designed to cope with hardware that isn't Vista compatible.1) Disable the DHCP Broadcast Flag for all the network adapters on the system (both wired and wireless) by using this link: Disable IPv6 on all network adapters (by going into the properties for each adapter and unchecking IPv6)3) Disable the IPHelper service in services.msc

I noticed this problem after I upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista. I am currently running Windows 7 Ultimate and I installed the Japanese language pack. I know this is the OS because if I start the computer while not hooked up to the internet and start iTunes the Japanese text will be displayed properly.

If I then connect to the internet any site in Japanese will show the characters but over time in both iTunes and my browsers the text will revert to just boxes. Not sure why this is happening. Sorry if this topic has already been discussed, did not see it.

My laptop is Compaq Presario C700, just formatted it to vista home premium 32bit
have installed the required drivers.

after I changed the unicode to japanese and restarted the computer.

Windows failed to start. A Recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
Info: Windows failed to load because the NLS data is missing, or corrupt.

I tried repairing it, and tried to system restore(sadly there's no system restore point)

any solution to this problem? ):

I installed Windows 8 Pro and installed an additional language(let's say it's B) pack, changed system display language to B, and system locale to B.

And I got infinite BSOD after installing some drivers(not related to language pack, just I made mistake installing old programs), so I 'refresh'ed the system.

Guess what, after the refresh, system display was set to English(united kingdom, which is default), AND system locale remained as language B.

This is the problematic part;
1.I CANNOT change system display language to B, it says it's unavailable.
2.The system regards the language pack is already installed because I can still use B as system locale.
3.I cannot reinstall or remove the language pack. LPKSETUP doesn't detect B.

SO i'm pretty much stuck, and I don't want to reinstall just to change the system display language.

Is there any solution to this(removing/reinstalling language pack)?

I own an Office 2007 Student Pack in Italian - but I'm used to excel formulas in English,

Microsoft 2 years ago discontinued the support for language pack support,
I was pointing there to change interface every-time I had to reinstall.

I discovered that I was stuck with an Italian Office !

Now they came back and offered a good solution ... full download of the older Office version ... any language.

A:Program files folder is in different language than display language

It seems to me that it would have to stay English (or the language the coders named it) as the programs look to those folders and their exact names/wording for files to use. If someone made for example call of duty then translated duty to Greek and the code looked for duty, it would only find the translation and it would fail to find the thing its looking for.

I have no info to back this up but its my theory as why things like documents can change but not program files folder names.

Check with Adobe but i think you probably need the Arabic version of Photoshop. Arabic reads from right to left unlike English, so simply switching in the language options may not be enough.

I've have been playing the game Icewind Dale II for the past few years on my laptop (windows XP). It's the japanese version and in order to play it, I had to go into the regional settings and change the default language to Japanese and it displayed the Japanese font correctly.

I haven't played it in a few months and decided to try it again last night. It would not display the Japanese characters correctly. The only thing that has changed since I last played it, was that I reformated the hard drive recently and before the reformatting, I was using Windows XP Pro and now, after the reformatting I am using Windows XP Home.

A colleague at work told me to download this

and it should work. Anyone ever hear of this or have had a similar problem such as this?

And b) i downloaded the driver from official HP site for turbo boost. My cpu is icore7 1.8 ghz but when i try to install the driver it sayz that my machine doesnt meet the minimum requirments.

What should i do about that??

Thanx in advance

A:Problem with language

1) Are the subtitles hardcoded in the movie file or they are separate .srt/.sub files? If they are separate, do you have the right language files? Also, copy the subtitles file to the same directory as the movie and make sure they have identical names. Thats all thats required.

2) The turbo boost driver is required for i5 and i7 series processors with integrated graphics. Core i7- 720, 740, 820 and 840 dont have integrated graphics so this driver is not required. You havent specified but I'm guessing you have one of these processors, hence you are correctly getting that message.

Hi Alan
Sorry to inform, but it is not possible to change the system language for Home Premium. The language packs (MUI) are only for Enterprise and Ultimate versions.

You can change the keyboard to allow to use caracteres em Portugu?s, but all the Windows commands, screens etc will still be in English. Only options are to spend a bunch of Reais and buy one locally, or buy a Ultimate in the US and change the language (I honestly don't know which one is less expensive, given the usual high prices there and the lousy exchange rate).

Let me know if I can help further.

Edit: I checked and she will pay close to US$ 280 (R$490) there. Here you can buy for US$220, plus cost to send there. You also need to check restrictions regarding exporting software, you might not be allowed to send it abroad.

I went to Control Panel/Language and did not find any settings there beside the one that I already did, which was my default input method set to PT.
