I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I downloaded a registry checker program to fix my computer(win98SE). Now I can't open
none of the microsoft office programs, its saying no application found,need to install program again. Also some other programs on my computer I can't open.

looks like you registry program may have deleted the links to some of your programs
did you make a backup of your registry at all -

try not to reboot - as I think win98 should back up the registry on each boot - but it only keeps a few copies - 5 I think

My computer did some sort of restore yesterday. I'm not sure exactly what happened. My son was looking at the computer trying to fix a problem with the audio because nothing I tried had worked. (No sound and computer wasn't giving me access to control panel.) When he gave me back the computer, everything was gone. I have the Lenovo apps, my personal files and I managed to get Windows back to what I think is an 8.1 version. (minimal changes to what I had) What I still need desperately is to find my Microsoft Software that came loaded on the computer..Excel, Word, Powerpoint ,etc. My ex says it might be on a "partition". Don't know what that is or how to get there. Help.

I recently purchased a new computer and transferred my files from the old one. Both systems run Windows 7 with the same version of Office (2007). After the transfer, Excel files will only open when accessed from Excel - otherwise, they try to open in Word. If I click on a file and select "open with," the only option is to open with Word. Any ideas?

Try clicking on the Win7 Orb and selecting "Default Programs" and select "Associate a file type or protocol with a program". Scroll down to .xls and change the program that it opens with to Excel by highlighting it and clicking on the Change Program button in the right hand corner. You will recognise other Excel extensions in the same area which you might want to change in the same way.

When I try to launch Excel or Word I get the screen: "Please wait while Office prepares the necessary files". I then have to wait for the procedure to be completed.
In addition, on launching Excel I get a box showing stdole32.tlb.
I have tried to replace that file with a copy but, in spite of logging in as Administrator, it won't copy and replace.
I have carried out a Repair of Office 2007 but it makes no difference.
Help would be appreciated.

We have several users that are having a blue screen when opening a word or pdf file. We are running Windows 7 32 bit all the latest windows updates are installed.

I have looked at the rdbss.sys file but no succes. Hope you guys could help / advice me

Do you have CenterTools DriveLock? If so, uninstall it, at least as a test.

If you dont have it, then I would say that a stray crash dump is not enough to debug an issue. Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Could somebody help me out with this. I have a few powerpoint (ppt) that won't open for my copy of powerpooint (I have MS Office 2003) I have tried downloading and installing Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack and it did not help with this. What are my options to ether get 2003 to read it or convert it so it can?

2 options

(I assume the document is an office 2007 document -- if it's earlier than 2003 then your copy of office will read it OK).

1) Get Powerpoint / Excel / Word 2007 Viewer from MS download

For example Powerpoint

This will at least allow Read access into the document


2) With a bit of cutting and pasting open a blank 2003 document and paste into your open 2003 document data from the other window where you've opened the powerpoint document with the viewer.

An easier solution is to find a machine with Office 2007 installed - open the document and save as a 2003 type document -- for example if you have office 2007 installed at work.

I had this issue when I first installed the 2010 beta last year. I can't remember how I fixed it. It has been running fine until a couple weeks ago. Every time I open a word, excel or powerpoint file, the windows installer reconfigures like it's reinstalling or something. Just clicking the word, excel icon doesn't do it. It only happens with saved word, excel, powerpoint files. Any clues?

ERROR: Microsoft Office PowerPoint ? Privacy warning: This document contains macros, ActiveX controls, XML expansion pack information, or Web components. These may include personal information that cannot be removed by the Document Inspector.
One of the programs below ask to install something like Media Player 11 run time files or maybe some ActiveXcontrol; I can?t remember exactly.
Windows 7 recovering does not work; it will not recovery even when Norton 360 anti-virus and firewall are turned off.
This happened after installing this programs all on the same day.
I have unistalled all the programs below and I still get the error.

If you want to uninstall and not leave any remnants, the best way is to do a system restore. If you have just installed these programs and want to uninstall System Restore is the best way to be sure that you get everything. The next best way is get the free process cc cleaner. It is safe and will remove every peice of gunk from your hard drive. If you try it you may be able to remove all remnants and then move on.

I currently am setting up new PCs for my workplace They are runnin Windows Won't 2007 Microsoft Word/Powerpoint Open Pro bit I am having issues with MS Office of the PCs Microsoft Word/Powerpoint 2007 Won't Open run all of the office programs fine The other will not open word or powerpoint They just Microsoft Word/Powerpoint 2007 Won't Open crash on startup Both these computers are on a domain and the domain user has Admin privileges however it still does not launch When I log directly into the administrator account it does launch but if I go back to the domain user with admin permissions it fails to launch I have read tons of forums and tried everything from the reinstalling repairing deleting the registry deleting the normal dot running some registry commands and still nothing I am out of ideas and curious as to why it would work fine on of the PCs but not the other Any help would be greatly appreciated I know there is plenty of info out there on this issue but I have tried everything I can find and still no success

Hi,

I've got a new Windows Vista that I bought, and it seems I have both Microsoft Office Powerpoint Viewer 2003 and 2007. I don't know where they came from, but one was probably installed via "Microsoft Works" by my family, and the other one (this is just a guess) from microsoft update maybe? The thing is, in Start - Programs I have both. Is there any way to get rid of 2003? Add/Remove programs shows just 2007, and one seems to be in C:/ProgramData and the other in C:/Program Files. Any help?

Hi,

Recently, I'm having slow file loading while opening ms word files and excel files directly from windows explorer. It takes a minute to load, however it opens immediately if I open .doc files or .xls files directly from their application software. It also take a minute for MS Word and Excel software to shut down.

I have run my antivirus (Symantec) and MBAM but they all show no virus was found. I'm not sure what should I do next, please advice.

Whenever I click on the file tab in Word or Powerpoint 2016 (doesn't happen for Excel) the programme crashes. The tech support at Microsoft are unable to resolve so I'm wondering if it is a HP conflict with Office or Windows 10. Has anyone else experienced this and found out how to resolve the problem?

I have finally decided to seek help for this problem and will be forever grateful if someone is able to help me I have a mind-boggling problem with my computer Reason No Crashing Messenger etc.. For Microsoft Powerpoint, Excel, Word, Itunes, right now I just recently installed Nero and now for some reason the following programs always immediately crash when I try to run them Microsoft Word Excel Outlook and Powerpoint All of the free Microsoft Games Freecell Solitare etc MSN Messenger iTunes but not quicktime WinRAR Daemon Tools The rest of the programs on my computer are fine including FireFox Skype uTorrent Internet Explorer Quicktime mIRC etc And the weird thing is what I think caused the problem Nero Burning ROM is fine and working perfectly And even weirder I have had this problem happen to me about months ago when I first installed Windows Everything was working fine until I installed a program and things started crashing And the thing is I know for a fact it was a program other than Nero My Thoughts I think it must be that for some reason Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Itunes, Messenger etc.. Crashing For No Reason certain types of programs are getting corrupted somehow and these programs share certain traits for example they use Microsoft Visual Studio or some other programming language or installer Cry for help I hope this makes sense to anyone reading I have tried formatting several times and what always happens is that everything is fine until I install one program usually a different program each time and then everything starts crashing Would it help if I showed anyone some error logs or anything By the way if I boot in safe more the errors still occur I have ran Malware Bytes and the CC Cleaner registry cleaning program I hope someone can help me you will be forever in my debt Thank you in advance nbsp

Someone posted a similar problem before but I don t know if the original author ever had a solution I posted this on the Office Online board several days ago but no one has answered yet Question from I m using Word from Office Home And Student with Vista Home Premium Word was working perfectly until about days ago I have not installed anything different It used to show a counter where it was counting the words of the document and then the documant would open Now 2007 Opening Icons Documents Via Not Office Word it shows a blank screen with the counter at zero The document itself is not empty It still shows the appropriate number of kbs on the desktop I went online to try to diagnose repair and update It told me that I had all of the Microsoft updates By the way this might or might not be related but other Microsoft updates keep asking me to download them even though they installed successfully I uninstalled and then re-installed Office Home And Student and by doing Office Word 2007 Not Opening Documents Via Icons so I had to purchase a new product key Office Word 2007 Not Opening Documents Via Icons since I misplaced the first one Still nothing helped I did notice that if I clicked on the Microsoft icon in the upper lefthand corner of the blank document I could see a menu of my recent documents and even search Office Word 2007 Not Opening Documents Via Icons in an explorer type of menu system In that roundabout way I could open the files But if I tried it the normal way I still got the blank screen When I would close the blank document it said Word has stopped working that it was trying to recover the data and that it was searching online for a solution That only brought me back to the suggestion to update which I had already done I even did antivirus and antispyware scans There is nothing wrong with the documents themselves I opened them on someone else s computer that had Word and they opened without a problem I would like to be able to open my documents in one step the way I used to update Virus scans Norton did not pick up anything Spysweeper with virus scan picked up Mal Badsrc-C App KillGOM-A and spectorpro but removed them all I have tried suggestions such as renaming normal doc changing the default printer and removing and reinstalling the printer driver I tried everything in the relevant knowledge base After these manipulations the document will open correctly the first time only and then go back to the incorrect way each time after But at all times on closure the program always said quot Word has stopped working quot From there it s the same problem Also of note is that all my system restore points from before the problem started have now been deleted by the system They didn t work anyway When the problem first happened I tried system restore and it said it couldn t be restored I don t know what to do anymore Sorry this was so long I just wanted to be as thorough as possible Any help is appreciated Thanks in advance nbsp

I have intalled Office 2007 and when trying to use Word and Excel I get "Not Respoinding".
I am using Vista and did not see an answer or possibly overlooked an answer since I am new and trying out my new wings with you. It is so frustrating. Please help.

First I would recommend reinstalling the Office Suite all together and downloading any updates that go with it. If that doesn't work, I would start looking at which programs you have that have built in Office Add-ons. Some of these add-on capabilities have been known to cause massive slowdowns in Office performance.

I've done a bunch of searching on these forums and elsewhere and found a few suggestions on how to fix this error but I can't seem to find a solution that works I just upgraded to Win Ultimate -bit and I installed Office The programs themselves work fine - but whenever I click on a shortcut to either a Word or Excel doc I get the following error quot There was a problem sending the command to the program quot The program will open but the document won't I can easily open the doc from the program once it's open but it's annoying to always have to do two steps and to doc Error opening 07) Excel Word when (Office or see that error The big solution I keep seeing for Excel at least is the quot Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange DDE quot option and to make sure its unchecked which Error when opening Excel or Word doc (Office 07) it is Any ideas what I can do to fix it I haven't tried any other Office programs so I am not sure if it's all of them but it's quite odd

Hi,

I've opened a document (.doc file) with Microsoft Office Word 2007.
The document is all written in Hebrew, and I have the Hebrew Language Pack that I've downloaded using Windows Vista's Windows Update application.

So, back to Word 2007.

For some reason, the "Find" button, located in Home>> Editing, is grayed.

When I click the "Find button, two options show up, and the first of them is grayed and I can't select it:

"Find..."
"Go To..."Click to expand...

Why is it grayed?
I just want to find a few words, and I don't understand why such simple action is not possible.

I'm using Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2007 Professional. When I highlight a column, the highlighted color is so light that when I do a "Find" (Control F) command and it finds the value you can't tell it found the value. (The found value is in white which isn't much different than the highlighted column.) Is there any way I can darken the highlighted column? I've tried changing the color scheme for the entire program and that doesn't help.

Not sure where to post this, but in the last month Office Word & Excel 2007 have slowed down and progressed to "not responding". Cut & paste are virtually "cut and wait 5 minutes" and maybe it will appear properly.

I have check for viruses with Malwarebytes and AVG and have used Spybot, also. I have also ran MS Diagnostics. Everything seems to be in order.

I am using Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2.

I know this problem has been ongoing for several years, but this is first time I've had to deal with it and MS Support is as usual not helpful.

Would appreciate someone else's clear mind as mine as become muddled trying to remedy the problem.

Hi all Hoping somebody can help me out here I sent this off to Microsoft about a month ago and have since received three emails in response one of which said try reinstalling another saying are you sure this is the only program in which there is a problem and a third saying please bear with us we re experiencing high levels of requests right now and need more time That was ten days ago Yes Well I m hoping somebody out there can help instead So some background information I purchased a new laptop about two months ago on which had Windows Vista business automatically installed I installed myself Office and updated all the necessary security features and upgrades and so forth Office 2003 issue Word 2007 Freezing opening docs when in All programs are genuine This is a decent quality Freezing issue when opening 2003 Word docs in Office 2007 laptop - decent speed set me back around k AU About six weeks ago now I began having problems with my computer It would suddenly freeze on application - the screen would go white and I would lose the ability to click on anything else alt ctr delete had no effect nor did leaving it alone for a while Every time this happened I would need to hard restart After a system of elimination I realised the problem occurred when Freezing issue when opening 2003 Word docs in Office 2007 I was opening Word Documents Almost every time I opened such a document I would freeze up As a uni student I m constantly receiving various documents from other parties which I have been left unable to access I say almost After some testing on my own the following parameters were defined I tried the idea of opening a document on another computer saving it as a document and then sending it to my laptop This DID NOT work I tried to copy and paste the text of a document into a NEW document on another computer and sent it to my laptop This DID NOT work I cleared all formatting of a document on another comouter I think I even inserted it into a txt document as wel and put it back into the document This DID work on my laptop A document which I created a while ago on my laptop and saved as a document COULD be opened still on said laptop So We have a two general rules in which I can open all documents and no documents And exceptions to both rules All other programs work fine Microsoft suggested I unstall the program and then do a few things rename a few folders or something but upon trying to uninstall the program my computer again froze in the saem fashion about a third of the way through This left me unable to use Office as it was partially uninstalled so I came up with the cunning idea of installing the program again This worked although it is now operating without the online updates which come with it I choose not to continuously downlaod half a GB of updates when I could end up reinstalling the entire program again anyway I m guessing there s some sort of system error here No idea what my troubleshooting knowledge is limited with such problems Any help would be unbelievably appreciated as this problem is very inconvenient as you might imagine Thanks in advance nbsp

Office 2007 can read previous versions of Office no matter which program in Office you are using, other versions will need the compatibility pack from Microsoft so they can read 2007 version.

I did use Office 2007 myself recently in a temp job for seven weeks and I don’t remember seeing an option to save a document in an earlier version format, is the computer is still under warranty?

What ram and processor have you got? Some problems with Vista are caused because If buying a new PC or laptop beware of the differences between ‘Vista-Capable’ and ‘Vista Premium Ready’
A PC that is &#8216;Vista-capable&#8217; can run Windows Vista, but won&#8217;t necessarily get everything working. <<<<<<<<

&#8216;VistaPremium-ready&#8217; PC, can get all of the more demanding features such as Aero working correctly.

At the very least Vista needs a truckload of memory and a lot of the cheaper notebooks only come with 512mb of ram unless you have paid for extra, where at least a gig is needed, Ideally 2 gig of memory would be the way to go.

But you did say a reasonable lap top and going by what you wrote it obviously was not like this at the beginning. (Two weeks after you brought it, it started to play up, or is that when you installed Office and its been playing up since you installed it? (I am still thinking will post again if something comes to mind)

I have already downloaded microsofts free convert/export PDF/XPS and it works well but when i type out a document and try to save as in Rich Text Format there is no facility to do this that i know of. As i am new to Office 2007 i may have overlooked a command somewhere in the ribbon. Does anyone know if Rich Text Format is part of Office 2007 or failing that does anyone know of a solution?.The tutorials on microsofts website do not make any mention of Rich Text Format in any variation of their Office Suites or individual programs eg, word, excel, publisher or the rest . When I open a microsoft office word document a light blue screen comes up which is usually the screen behind the word doc that opens. In order for me to pull up the doc I am looking for I have to hit the menu on top left and click recent documents and then it opens the doc. Also, if I right click and choose word to open the doc an error message pops up saying "Windows cannot find C:documents and settings/administrator/desktop/charlie/d? make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again". I am using Office 2007 and this happens with every document I open that is a word document. It does not happen with Excel

When I exit MS Office 2007 Word a pane appears that says "Word has stopped working and will search for a solution" (which is never found) followed by "Word is re-starting." After the re-start, I'm able to exit Word without further messages or difficulty. This is more of a nuisance than anything else but I have the impression that the program (at least the version I have) may be somewhat unstable.

I've looked for a solution on the MS Support Web site to no avail and wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience with this program.

My O/S is Vista Home Premium; the MS Office 2007 is the Student and Teacher Edition; my computer is an HP Pavilion a6345f.

Hi.. I have been geting a weird start up of Word, Excel and OneNote when I boot my laptop.. they are not set in the startup menu.. they give a error message..." excel has stopped working..sart in safe mode " then word does the same thing, then OneNote... I have done a virus and ,malware scan in safe mode and this reveals no infections...
It is annoying,, but if I want to use these apps they work fine after the booting issue first time..

Hello everyone,

I have two questions regarding Microsoft Office Excel 2007, that are no doubt simple ones to answer.

Firstly, is it possible to have a column where every entry added would appear automatically with quotation marks? For example, if I entered Movie #1 in to a cell in Column A, when I click out of that cell, can it automatically change it to "Movie #1"?

Secondly, on a seperate work-sheet (but within the same work-book), how can I have a display telling me how many cells appear in a particular column on another work-sheet? For example, if I have Column A in Work-Sheet #2 filled with entries, can I have a cell in Work-Sheet #1 tell me how many entries there are there in total?

I hope that all makes sense.

Any help would be appreciated!

This is a question about the search functions within Microsoft Office Word 2007 and Excel 2007. I want to be able to do searches that would yield both &#8220;e&#8221; and &#8220;&#8221; in the results of a single search. Right now all I can do is two separate searches.

My OS is Windows Vista. An example of what I'm looking for is a search that would bring up "cafe" and "caf". It's probably either a way to ignore accent marks or a way to define searches for "e" as if they were searches for &#8220;e or &#8221;.

I don't know if this is relevant, but I had a problem a couple of days ago and found that my Windows Installer Service had somehow been disabled. Resetting this to manual fixed things for me. Something to check anyway. (Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services).

My desktop pc is a Compaq Presario with Windows 95 and Microsoft Office. Recently it has started taking forever to close down a Word document or an Excel spreadsheet. The program itself closes out in normal speed but its the separate documents that take forever.

I have checked disk space - plenty available. I have done the usual maintenance ie defragmentation, scan disk etc.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

If you're using office 97, according to microsoft, one possibility is that outlook is journalizing your other office documents. They say to start outlook and under tools / options / journal clear all the check boxes under 'also record files from' list. They say this can cause files to close slowly even if outlook isn't running.

Not sure from your post if you have followed the exact procedure, in your first method, that worked with the XLS files? - rather than select the Microsoft Word option from the available programs list, browse to the winword.exe file which should be in the same area as the excel.exe file from previous.

If this does not help there is another method, in the control panel - uninstall programs - you should be able to right click on the Microsoft Office entry and select Change, then repair, which should fix this and any other issues

another option would be to select change, and without actually changing anything proceed through the procedure, (basically this would re-install office over the top of itself.
Sorry if these instructions are a little vague, I do not have access to a copy of either Vista or Office 2007 at the moment

“Microsoft word has stopped working”

This happens when:
Word 2007 is closed after working on a 2003 document
Word 2007 is closed after working on 2007 documents along with a 2003
document. Everything works fine until the last document is closed and word is
completely closed. And it does not matter whether it’s an 03 or 07 document.
Word 2007 closes correctly when working with only 2007 documents.

Hi,
I can not open ms Word documents by double-clicking on them anymore, When ever I do so I get a mesage saying: "There was a problem sending the command to the program."
I do get the Word window open but there is nothing in it. I have tried this with .doc, .docx and .txt files and I get the same thing.
But I can open files if I first open word and then go to Open and select a document from there, but not by double clicking.
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit and Microsoft Office Word 2007, can anyone help me?

Open Word, go to the Office Orb, then Resources, and then "Run Microsoft Office Diagnostics.

This will check out the install and do a repair if needed. You will need to the "Office cache" file on the hard drive or have the Office CD handy, if it is needed.

Just started using a new workstation with Office 2010 installed by OEM. Everything worked fine for a few days, and then every time i attempt to open a Word file or Excel file i get the MS Office dialog box that states "please wait while windows configures Microsoft Office 2010". The dialog box stays visible for 30-45 seconds and then the program opens and works fine.

Ran a repair, four times, didn't fix it.

All of my research leads me to a solution of uninstalling and re-installing. I'm not buying that if everything worked fine for several days, that a bad install will make the program stop functioning properly.

I also noticed, while visiting help within outlook, that the product was still a trial version and not currently activated. I have entered the activation code numerous times with no luck.

Any suggestions? This is becoming extremely inefficient.

A:Office 2010 runs product configuration when opening Word and Excel

Right click the Word or Excel icon and select Run as administrator.
This should allow the proper configuration to be written to the system and you should not have to do it again.

In both Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, when I do a "File, Open" command, a box comes up showing the contents of the last directory I used. If I then attempt to use the drop down from this box to navigate to a new directory, it takes 65 seconds before the drop down list appears, and then another 30-40 seconds before the drop-down menu responds to my request for a new directory.

I have uninstalled and re-installed Microsoft office, and I have run the "detect and repair" option in the help menu. Nothing seems to fix the problem. I have no idea why this is happening or what Microsoft Office is doing during those 65 seconds to produce the drop down list and during the following 30-40 seconds to navigate to a requested directory in the drop down list.

I do not have this problem with other applications such as Lotus 123.

Any ideas?

I'm trying to help a co-worker here who just got a new laptop with MS Office 2010 & MS Word 2007 on it. She has a previously created document (MS Word 2003, I think) and is trying to check and uncheck checkboxes. This used to be under view/toolbars/forms, but as we all know, that is no longer the case with MS Word 2007. The problem is whatever I have searched tells me to click on the Microsoft Office Button, go to options, categories, developer tab, etc., but the problem is the Microsoft Office Button is no where to be found! I've tried everything! She just has file, etc., nothing, no little logo, nothing to the very left.

What am I missing?

This forum helped me a lot in the past and i hope someone can help me this time aswell.
I used to have a problem with blue screens on my toshiba laptop running vista. That problem was solved. However, since then microsoft office word 2007 is not working properly anymore. Whenever i try to save, open or close a file the program stops responding and crashes. I tried uninstalling microsoft office, scaning the computer registry with regsupreme pro and cleaning it and then reinstalling microsoft office but the problem persists.
The problem is only with microsoft word, all other office programs work fine.
My best guess is that something went wrong with some system file.
I have absolutely no idea what to do. If anyone can help me somehow i would appreciate it.
My last resort is formatting the computer which i would like to avoid.

I see that no one has an idea yet on how to help me. Maybe this additional info will help:
1) i started word in safe mode and it works fine only while using safe mode. I started uninstalling programs with word adding with no luck in pinpointing the problem yet. Are there any tools to troubleshoot faulty addins? or anything that would help?

I have got office 2007, and everything work fine apart from Word processor, it loads up the office word 2007 orange screen on desktop but then just does not move from that. it did once, but that was about half an hour after i gave up hope on the blooooming thing.

Any helps would be very welcomed with open arms.

I want to create a shortcut to run Excel from the command line and in that command or batch be able to run a macro from the workbook in my XLSTART folder. This way, the user does not have to run the macro from Excel menus.

I also want to create a shortcut to run Word from the command line or batch to run a macro (a global macro) when Word opens. Again, the user does not have to get inside Word to select a macro from the menus.

I have searched the internet and found that neither program has command line switches to immediately run a macro at the Office program start up.

I have installed MS OFFICE 2007 in Win7 Home Premium 64bit. Every time I attempt to start excel or word it tries to do the configuration and terminates in an error. When I start excel it immediately brings up an information window that simply says stdole32.tlb, then goes into configuration and errors out. I have looked in the C:/Windows/System32 folder and the stdole32.tlb file is there. I would appreciate any help that can be offered. Thanks.

I have a document in Microsoft Office Word 2007 that has information in the header that I would like repeated in the footer.

Essentially, I have two strings of text in the header. One is the name of the document and the other is the date it was created. I would like these two strings to be automatically inserted in to a specific spot in the footer each time they are updated in the header.

Is this possible, and, if so, can someone please tell me how to do it?

How can I get a dictionary to use to look up definitions of words in the Research tab in Microsoft Office Word 2007? My Word 2010 on another computer has an Encarta Dictionary give me definitions of words when I alt + click on a word, but I can't find a way to get the dictionary in Word 2007 on my laptop, even when I click on "Research options..." there's only a Thesaurus. Please help.

From the Research tab - I put the word I wanted in the searchfor box.
The drop down box below that gave me several selections - inlcuding Encarta dictionary I did not do anything to get it there.
It seemed to work ok.

I've got two different spreadsheets in Microsoft Office Excel 2007 that rely quite heavily on graphs. Now, the issue I'm having isn't stopping the practical functions of the spreadsheet, but it is aesthetically frustrating.

Each time I access either spreadsheet, some of my graphs data labels reset their formatting and styles. Approximately 75% of the data labels remain as they were originally formatted, but approximately 25% of them reformat themselves each time. I correct it by formatting them the way I'd prefer, and I re-save, but the next time I open the spreadsheet they've gone back to their default state.

Now, this is only the formatting, not the content of the data label, but it is still frustrating.

Can anyone please give some advise as to how I can fix this?

Hello there.
 
I recently bought Microsoft Office 2007 on eBay. It came in the mail today. When I put the disc into my computer, nothing happens. I cannot hear the disc running. Nothing is prompted on the screen and when I look in "my computer" it does not show anything other than what's normally there. I guess I am asking for help trying to figure out how to download this program onto my computer as I just started college classes and already have assignments due and cannot complete them without it. 
 
Please be gently, as I know to some this may seem basic. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

First of all - welcome to BC !
 
There are two possibilities here. The first, and less worrying, is your optical drive may have died and gone to a better place. Can you read any other software disc or play a movie DVD ? If you can, your drive is working. If you can't, then it is almost certainly your drive.
 
The Office disc may be faulty or fake. Try it in a different computer to see if it can be read or offers to install itself. If it can neither be read nor offers to install on a different computer then your only hope of redress is to take it up with first the supplier and then the eBay complaints procedure.
 
Sorry I can't be more optimistic on your first visit to BC.

I have a spreadsheet that shows all of the upcoming events at my work (I've attached a very basic example of the way the spreadsheet is set out).

When an event passes, I'd like the spreadsheet to automatically change the formatting of the rows that contain events that have already passed.

For example, today being 14.12.09, an event for yesterday (13.12.09) would be highlighted in red to show that the day has passed.

If anyone can provide any detail on how to achieve this, I would greatly appreciate it.

I noticed that on my Dell Latitude pc that is Windows 7, that Excel 2016 works fine when i paste from a certain site and then insert rows and delete rows. No issues on the Dell. On the Lenovo, there are strange things ..  delays.So i insert a row and then nothing happens. So i scroll the info off the screen and then back and boom, the row is inserted or deleted depending on what i did.  Also sometimes i have to click a few times to get the cursor into the cell.  When i adjust column sizes it is the same thing. I have to scroll up and down to make sure everything takes.  What is the problem with this on this machine. It doesnt happen on my old Dell. Any ideas? Excel works fine on the Lenovo when i am not pasting in information from that website.

Unable to open Microsoft Office documents(excel,word) in Internet Explorer when we enforce strict TLS 1.2 protocol (Disabling SSL v2,SSL v3,TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1)on the webserver. We tested by removing strict TLS 1.2 and IE is able to open the document fine.
Error description : We see a Microsoft Excel Security Warning with the following content.
Certificate error
The application experienced an internal error loading the SSL libraries.

When we disabled SSL V2 and SSL V3, the document opens fine but when TLS 1.0 is disabled we are seeing the  pop-up with certificate error. We tried to open the reports in CSV format, 2007 format and 2003 format and all of them have the same issue. Does
Internet Explorer have any restrictions when TLS 1.2 is strictly enabled ?

Note : We are able to download the document using Internet explorer and the document opens fine from local but opening the document from the browser fails with certificate error.

Hi all Okay so I ve got a weird dilemma here I ve got a disc with some Powerpoint presentations on it which were created in PPT I ve used them for years without any issue I copied half of them to my computer probably oh I dunno or years ago Those that I copied are good But I brought the disc back out blew the dust off opening not 97 files in Powerpoint 2007 it and tried opening the other files on it and nada I can still read the data on the disc and it copies over just fine but won t open I m worried the disc is somehow still bad it seems to be the only logical answer left but wanted to post on here just to be Powerpoint 97 files not opening in 2007 sure Powerpoint is certainly not my forte It s at least worth the question if somebody has seen this before and can verify it for me Thanks for taking the time to read Let me know if you have any questions nbsp

I have found this BUG in Micrososft Word 2007, that I consider to be a SERIOUS ISSUE for Microsoft Office Suite.


If you copy an image from a website and paste in the Word file, the image pastes successfully the first time,
but as you go on & paste other images from the site,
the first image is repeated over and over again, in place of other images (which have the same dimensions).
All other text data remain same, the image titles remain same, but only the image is repeated over and over

I would not advise pasting images in doc files like that,
I would use ms Paint to paste or save picture as
I would really recommend using the windows snipping tool to get the images that way no bugs are being transferred to the machine or programs,
Then use the Insert image option in word...
It's just a safer way to do an operation,

Where a1 is the first cell in spreadsheet you are working on, and sheet1!a1 is the sheet within workbook containing figure.

I am desperately hoping that someone can help me with a problem I've got.

I have a range of values (daily financial figures) that are all made from formulas and external sources (other spreadsheets in the same document). None of these values have been directly entered, and the formulas behind them are quite complex. These values (one in each cell) are all read by a graph - however, for days in the future, the graph violently plummets as it's reading the cell values as "$0.00".

Can someone tell me how I can prevent the graph from showing the "$0.00" values? Is there a way to get it to ignore the cells with that value?

I have created a powerpoint presentation with 325 slides - file size about 70 MB - and saved in Powerpoint 2007 format (pptx).

When I am opening it with Powerpoint 2007 viewer it takes 1 minute and 28 sec. The same file saved in ppt format (Powerpoint 2003 format) takes about 4 secs to open in the same program (Powerpoint 2007 viewer).

Is it possible to get the pptx format to open faster than this?

With a file that large I do not see how it can load as fast as you say.

If there are a lot images, I would use an external image resizer and then reinsert them. This should make the 70 MB smaller. Remember for a PP file all ones needs is images in the 300 KB or less in size.

I sure would not want to sit through a 325 slide presentation!

Do a custom install instead of the recommended settings. If you've already installed it, run your setup again and choose Add/Remove (something like that) and you'll be back at the customize screen. Set what you want to keep and what to go.

On my new Dell Laptop running Windows 7, when I attempt to open a PPS file, I receive the following message:

"This program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

I have uninstalled and reinstalled this program 3 times. And after every reinstall it works for a short time and then quits.

Anyone have any explanations/cure?

When I sent a message and when I was using Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, I had an option that enabled me to add a photo following or preceding my text. This option enabled me to put a photo in the text area and place text under or above the photo explaining the photo. I am now running Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 using Windows Home Premium 64 bit and I cannot find this option. If this is no longer an option, how can I place a photo in the text area and then follow with text explaining the photo? If this is not possible, I guess this new version is a downgrade!

My wife's Vista laptop had Office 2003 installed. Earlier this week, she could no longer use Excel or Powerpoint. After looking around the system for awhile, indeed neither Excel nor Powerpoint was installed anymore. Those file types wouldn't open, there were no shortcuts to them....just vanished. However, she still had Word. I reinstalled Office 2003 for her and everything seems fine, but any idea why this would happen? Or how I can keep it from happening again?

Hello,

I have upgraded to Office 2007 from Office 2003. When I open an Excel attachment from email in Outlook 2007, the Excel application opens but the document itself does not. The document has a .xlsx extension. I need help resolving this issue please. If anyone knows why this is happening or the fix, I'd appreciate your insight.

I have recently started working for a company out of Spain. They have supplied me with Office 2000, MSWord, Excel etc. and a very nice laptop. The problem is that they are set up in Spanish. I have the original installation discs but they are in spanish also. I am looking for a way to change the language displayed to english. Any help would be appreciated

Hi folks I have this problem that is hard to search for on Google We have a lot of word documents connected to a simpel text data file data doc that is used with mail merge Here is our process data doc is opened filled with all variablenames we can use in our documents name country etc data doc is opened filled with the actual data from a database belonging to the variables name Kees Japan etc 2007 2000 documents problem Opening correctly automation in word word Our vb net application does step and then starts a template word document which has that data doc file attached for mail merge The template is now filled in with the correct data Opening word 2000 documents correctly in word 2007 automation problem vb net application tells MS Word to print the document Works fine and we have ourselves a nice document filled in with data we specified in the vb net application Now comes the problem some new computers will have office instead of office installed during testing we have encountered that it does not error but the office installed computer does not fill in the data and just shows mergefield names lt lt name gt gt lt lt country gt gt Also when printed out So it seems like the datafile is not connected when opening the template in word If we let our vb net application show us the document visually first we can re-attach the data file again and we can print the data however there are thing wrong with this approach More user input which is not needed MS Word is opening and showing something we do not want in some cases We also automate the printing of packages which is basicly a list of different templates that needs to be printed automatically without users input Because the old computers will not be updated anytime soon to office versions we have to work some time with both systems So we cannot convert the document to word version because the office computers can t read them anymore How can I let the office read the documents with correct automatic mail merge without user input just as word does We can implement the possible solution both in the sourcecode of the vb net application as we can solve it by configuring ms office so all possibilities are welcome With kind regards nbsp

I've run the trial version of MS Office 2007 for a month now. Today Powerpoint is doing something strange when I insert special characters such as a Euro charachter, , or a Spanish accent on a letter, .

What occurs is that Powerpoint doesn't move the cursor to after the character and it cuts the space before and after the character so it sticks too close to the character before and after. Basically it bunches up the special character with the before and after characters, and then positions itself in front of the special charachter I just wrote. Then I need to add space before and after the special character I wrote to make it give space around the character.

Any ideas???

I'd have a go at reinstalling it again!
With Office, when you reinsert the original CD, one of the options is usually "repair/modify" the installation.
You can't do any harm with this method.
If no luck you might be best to uninstall Powerpoint and the do a full reinstall again.

Here is the problem
I try to add a video to a slide in my powerpoint presentation but everytime I try to play it, an error comes up:
"MCI Error"
"The specified device is now being closed. Wait a few seconds and then try again"

This behavior occurs because PowerPoint can play back only QuickTime movies (.mov and .qt files) that use compression schemes with corresponding Media Control Interface (MCI)-compatible codecs. (Thus the MCI error... media compatible codec) You have an unsupported player or device.

A codec (compressor/decompressor) is an algorithm or scheme that is used to record digital video or audio. For example, when you transmit video over the Internet, the video must be compressed on the sending end and decompressed on the receiving end. A codec can be chosen based upon the user's audio or image quality and image size preferences.

When you read a QuickTime movie, a Video for Windows decompressor decompresses the QuickTime files. If the decompressor does not support the compression method used by the QuickTime movie, the decompressor cannot display the movie on the screen.

I have loaded Microsoft Office:Mac 2011 Home and Student onto my Mac Pro laptop and have used each program in it ( excell, word, powerpoint) for around 4 months. Everything has worked great, but then when I tried to open Powerpoint it does not open. I have tried to reinstall Office from the disk but does not work. The laptop has Mac Snow Leopard O/S on it. What do I need to try, and I do not want to lose any info I have save from this program. Thanks
