keyboard wont work for laptop

Q: keyboard wont work for laptop

the bottom half of my laptop does not work.. im typing with an on screen keyboard and a plug in mouse but here is the story.. it was thundering out and it was pretty bad so then the lights flickered, shutting down my xbox (i was playing that) and my computer was STILL plugged in so i think it might have fried something or loose wires.. this all was on like 6/24/2010... still messed up today, so.. any one know something that can be done?? besides taking it to best buy? it was an christmas gift and i took it in 1 time before for, it had an active worm virus in it so it is in good condition and its the whole keyboard spared all the ports.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It does sound like the storm damaged it. If it is still under warranty then take it back immediately.

Without more details about your motherboard, it sounds like your memory is not seated properly, or you damaged it when you took it out.

Well i rebooted my computer one evening and when i went to type in the password i noticed my keyboard wont work. you can see that power is getting to it and the numlock works but all the other keys wont i had to hook up a much older and slower computer to get anything done, however i would like to get back into the other. the keyboard is not bad. i have another and i switched them out, the same thing happened with that keyboard. i tried rebooting many times.

the only thing i'm able to do is reboot but i cant get past the login screen. i'm able to press F8 and get to that screen but my arrow keys dont work so i cant change my options there either.

i ran out of ideas....help?

Hello,

I am facing this strange issue, i keep some rdp windows open for work all day and at some point the keyboard just stops working on the remote desktops, only the mouse works, to get it working again i have to close the rdp session and reopen it many times, sometimes even this doesn't work, so i have to reboot my win 10 and then it normally works. I must say that in all my years of windows 7 i have never had a similar issue.

Any fix?

Hey I am pretty desperate usb does fine not keyboard but keyboard works work with laptop now as I recently got a new Lenovo z laptop keyboard does not work but works fine with usb keyboard ideapad laptop which i think its months old only All of the sudden one day the shift laptop keyboard does not work but works fine with usb keyboard key started to automatically been pressed down as if its like its being 'possessed' in simple terms and it happened at random times After much forums some say hold shift key down for secs or x amount of secs disable sticky keys filter keys bounce keys or even continue press shift keys continuously etc etc Did all those disabled sticky keys bounch keys filter keys and now whenever i on my comp the shift key will automatically be pressed down so i have to hold the shift key for like - secs to disable it than it works fine and no more occurence However a new problem occurs now certain keys on the laptop is not working like the right shift key when the right shift key is pressed down none of the letters are being capital or none of the symbols are showing BUT the left shift key does the job Than the left shift key could not caps the letter z t y m and a few more but it works prefectly fine with other keys Now i am pretty sure its not a keyboard malfunction because without pressing caps all the keys are fine but only these certain keys wont be caps when the left shift key is pressed So i decided to use an external keyboard and everything works out fine right shift key is working left shift key caps those letters which could not be caps on the laptop So what is the problem actually and how to solve it is it a keyboard driver or software problem or hardware problem Novice here Ps now i know you guys would say send in for warranty but I'm now in Australia and unfortunately i bought this machine in malaysia and my international waranty wont work cause my model is not sold in Australia yea bloody stupid for calling international warranty thanks and hope you guys could somehow help out

A:laptop keyboard does not work but works fine with usb keyboard

The fact that a USB keyboard works fine when your built in one doesn't, proves that it is the keyboard itself (or connectors) that is damaged/defective, otherwise, if it were a software problem, the external keyboard would do the same.

Hello everyone. I am trying to reformat a very screwed up system that was custom built. My immediate problem is the keyboard won't work, so I can't select the "boot from disc" option. I have both a keyboard that plugs into the purple recepticle, AND a wireless that uses usb. I CAN get the wireless to work only AFTER the computer has booted all the way up. If i wiggle the purple plug, I can get an occasional light on my plugged keyboard - but not enough to go through the reformat process. HELP!

A:Trying To Reformat - Keyboard Wont Work

Looks like the purple one (or the plug in the motherboard) is bad. Try another one with a purple plug.

As for the USB one, try borrowing a USB to PS2 adaptor (comes with most mice and keyboards and is usually grene) to see if it'll work in the purple plug.

It boots up and the lights flash and seems to work but the monitor goes to stand by right off the bat and the keyboard lights up in the begining but then won't work either. I have plugged in another monitor and keyboard (that I know work) with the same problems. I took the battery (cmos?) out and put it back in (someone else recommended doing that) and it did not help any. Anyone have any ideas on what the problem can be? The computer was not a year old when this starting happening, if that helps.

A:keyboard wont work at startup

Hello manvin and Welcome to TSF sometimes you really have to time it right when you hit the F8 key but if you're still having problems accessing Safe Mode or Last Known Good Configuration give this a try

Recovery Console: In the progression of repair items for XP, Recovery Console is the next logical step if Last Known Good Configuration and Safe Mode have failed in allowing the system to boot. As Microsoft states, "This method is recommended only if you are an advanced user who can use basic commands to identify and locate problem drivers and files."

Access the Recovery Console: Start the computer with the Windows XP installation CD in the CD drive. When prompted during text-mode setup, press R to start the Recovery Console.

I'v been having a few issues with my cpu lately. A new hdd and psu are arriving soon so I'm going for a fresh reinstall of everything.

However in the meantime, I can't use the internet basically 'cause my keyboard isn't working. When I boot up, the boards lights stay on as win xp is loading- which is normal, but right about when the black windows intro screen finishes, the keyboard lights go out. Then when I'm in windows, the board is dead.

The board isn't stuffed 'cause it is detected in bios- I can enter bios and move around ok so it's a windows related problem. Also, I tried another keyboard and the same thing happens.

I've had this keyboard working fine for a few years now and haven't has this problem. Also device manager is showing the keyboard as working fine!
Any suggestions......???

Basically my keyboard works when it starts. I can press F8 or Esc to go into the windows startup menu. However when (even in safe mode) it starts up it asks for Ctrl+Alt+Del. Here my keyboard is non responsive. I've had this issue before and used to solve it with windows restore settings to a previous date through safe mode, however this time i can't get into safe mode because clever windows felt like making it so secure.
Also the option of going back to previously good settings after pressing F8 desnt help. I've tried all sorts of boot disks made on my other computer but nothing seems to get it to that BIOS screen. As i said the buttons work before windows starts up just i cant do anything useful with them. Oh and i dont have an XP Pro CD either... would that help? how do i restore mysetings to a previous date?

If it's a desktop, is that keyboard PS/2, usb or wireless ? What's its brand and model ? Try with another PS/2 keyboard and report if you have the same problems.

If it's a laptop, what model is it ?

fallonashley Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about problems with your new HP PC and wanted to help. You should not be having problems with a PC this new. While this PC is still under warranty, you should contact HP Customer Support directly to have them put you in touch with HP Technical Support to see what they can do about diagnosing and repairing your machine remotely.I did this recently and the HP Tech was able to remotely access my PC from the Internet and do the needed repairs. If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!Good Luck

I have tryed to boot up in safe mode and it does not work it just loads a list of drivers and even if i wait 20mins it does not do enything
i have tryed a ps2 mouse and keyboard an that does the same

A:mouse or keyboard wont work after certain point on win xp

The problem isn't the mouse. The problem is with the files on disk. They are corrupted.
Did you had a power failure or a freeze system earlier?
Fat 32 isn't the appropriate file system for the OS. It should be formatted as NTFS.
Do you have the Win XP installation disk?

So he installed a bunch of software even though he does not know what it is? There's the problem. Seriously though. OK let's see, it's a Dell PC. Try to find the Dell Operating system or restore disc. If you do not have it, call them up and ask for one. Also usually PC manufacturers put a recovery partition on the Hard drive. Look for a message when booting that says something like "Press F11 for recovery" or "F12 for boot options". Something along those lines. Dell's website should have the specifics on this. Since you cannot use the keyboard I really cannot suggest anything because it all requires the keyboard.

You should be able to plug in via usb or ps2 port and renable the bluetooth. you will just need to buy or borrow a keyboard and mouse that have those plugs.

Hi david9562 and welcome to TSF !

Switch for a regular PS/2 keyboard for the time of the installation, you'll be able to use your own keyboard once Windows is installed.

Make sure you've backed up all your data on a different physical drive before you go the format/reinstall from scratch way.

My satellite pro C850 1HE keyboard intermittently stops working properly and starts opening programs e.g pressing F will open file search, C opens computer that sort of thing

is there a permanent fix to this problem?

its not anything to do with programs installed nor is it anything to do with browser settings.
restarting the computer works for a short time but is time consuming this is really annoying as i use this for work and study!

A:Satellite Pro C850 keyboard wont work properly and opens multiple programs

> is there a permanent fix to this problem?

The question is what causes this problem? Is it hardware related or software related issue?

Why you don?t connect an external USB keyboard just to check if the same would happen?

In case the USB keyboard would work fine, I would assume that the internal keyboard malfunctions? and the solution would be an simple replacement of faulty part.

OK so I was watching TV on my PC last night, woke up to find PC had restarted itself, I shutdown from the login screen. Now when trying to bootup, it gives a warning, prompting me to run startup repair, if I do this it runs & gives option to do system restore, but I cannot do it as the mouse & keyboard won't work! If I try and start windows normally I get the BSOD with "Page Fault in nonpaged area" warning at the top. Have tried booting from Windows 7 DVD but again the mouse & keyboard won't work, they only work in the BIOS, would appreciate some help, thanks!

A:Page Fault in nonpaged area, keyboard/mouse wont work outside BIOS

Well now you say your keyboard and mouse only works in bios but what you don't tell is what (exactly) is your keyboard and mouse.

What mouse and keyboard are you using?:?

Do you have a PS2 keyboard?

From what I found you should have this.

Hi So I bought from iBuyPower do keyboard work laptop's not on keys Some my a laptop a year ago It's been pretty good overall Very fast but there were a Some keys on my laptop's keyboard do not work few quirks with it here and there Sometimes it randomly blue screened but those problems went away after some driver Some keys on my laptop's keyboard do not work fixes But then after about six months the keyboard started to behave strangely--specifically some keys do not respond on the bottom part Some keys on my laptop's keyboard do not work of the keyboard I used KeyboardTester here to figure out which keys were not working for sure Keyboard Tester And here are the results The following keys do not work unless I press hard really hard on the key Left arrow numpad's and left arrow right control The following keys absolutely do not work as far as I can tell as hard as I'm willing to press Left control fn windows key numpad's home end I could care less about home or windows I can work without those But my muscle memory works with left control and fn is a very useful key to have But I absolutely need my left arrow key to work without a hard press A while later something broke in the laptop that caused it to stop charging and after taking it in to Supergeeks for repairs it seemed that not only did it stop charging but the jack thing that is used to take in energy from the character was FRIED and the motherboard itself may have fried too when they tried to boot the laptop it displayed a pure white screen so we ended up sending it to iBUYPOWER directly since it was still under warranty We didn't do so at first because we heard that sending it in could take weeks It indeed took weeks Eventually we got it back That's where I am now today Good news The laptop works Bad news The keyboard is even worse Before all of the keys worked if I pressed hard enough tilted the laptop slightly in an odd way But now some as stated above absolutely do not work And I literally just got this back from them What's going on Help I'm at a loss Extra information The problem keys are all located either on the bottom left ctrl fn window the mid-bottom right right ctrl left arrow the bottom right numpad or the top right home end of the keyboard

I have been having problems lately with some of the keys on my laptop keyboard. Sometimes when I press some of the keys they won't work, and sometimes pressing a letter once will make it register twice in a Word document. The laptop is about 4 years old, and I know that you can't do anything really about a laptop KB since it's built in, but is there anything I could try to see if I can fix the problem? It doesn't happen all the time...maybe I just need to buy some KB cleaning supplies to try and get under the keys?

Thanks in advance..

A:Keys on laptop keyboard won't work?

I had a HP that had similar problems, and it was indeed a bad keyboard. Luckily for me it was still under warranty. For low tech cleaning, you might try some compressed air to blow out dust/hair etc around the keys. If it is a bad keyboard, you may be able to replace it yourself.

I put the CD in my other computer, and it reads the CD fine. The only trouble is that computer does not have MS Office on it so opening the files on that computer is just as useless.
Should I restart my computer? (I don't remember seing any notifications that I got new updates)
Is my drive dirty? (if so, what is the best way to clean it?)

I have a Compaq Presario 1694 that I recently upgraded to 30 gig hard drive and 194 mg of RAM. I also installed Windows XP Professional and this worked great for about a week. Now I cant get it to boot. When I turn it on, the COMPAQ logo comes up and I hit F8. When I make a selection there, like run in SAFE MODE or Start Windows Normally the screen will freeze. Any ideas? This is my sons college p.o.s. computer and I need it to last a little bit longer! HELP!

Hello everyone. I have one big problem. I reinstalled my 8.1 pro (legal copy, disk been fully formatted) and it was okay for few hours. Next time im starting the laptop, my keyboard and touchpad doesnt work. I plugged USB mouse and keyboard and it works just fine. I went to device manager and besides Standart PS/2 keyboard and mouse icons there was orange triangle meaning that i have problem with drivers. I searched drivers online, but unsuccsessily.. After few hours of trying to fix it, my Standart PS/2 Keyboard turned into Unknown device and now im completely lost. Adding photo of device manager, i hope someone will help me here.

Since we do not know the make and model of your laptop.
Should try the laptop manufacturer's website to see if you can find the drivers for this. Does look like there missing.

What does it tell you when you right click the ones with yellow exclamation points ?

You can right click and select update driver software, either search automatically or browse your computer, select signed driver from the list is shows you.

My daughters laptop is a 2-1 so it can fold in half and be a tablet. I recently bought a monitor and mouse so she could use it more like a desktop but when I fold over the laptop into the tablet position, the keyboard stops working.

I had windows 8.1, but upgraded as it was supposed to have a tablet mode that you could toggle that would allow the keyboard to work. I upgraded and it worked for one night, but now the keyboard always stopped working when I put the laptop into the tablet position.
I hit the windows key +A and the tablet icon is greyed out, but no keyboard so I thought it was a laptop issue. I read that there was a toshiba exe file that controlled this functon, but deleting it didn't work either so I am back to thinking it might be something in 10?

Please help.

The 2-in-1s I've been privileged to look at appeared to have a mechanical switch to turn off the keyboard when it was folded into tablet mode, don't think there's anyway to bypass that without physically disabling it by taking the device apart, could end up destroying it.

Within the last week my Sony Viao laptop keyboard started acting up. The dash key, delete key, home key, no. six key, and a few others just don't work anymore. More and more are not working.

I use it everyday, several years old. I do eat food over it occasionally. Tried cleaning under the keys. Didn't fix.

A virus (I had a recent virus attack so bad had to reformat hard drive; but keyboard worked immediately afterward).

Any guidance greatly appreciated. I'm afraid I'll soon lose all keyboard functioning and will be up the creek. I don't have a lot of money, can't just buy a new computer.

Here's the deal. Last time I used my laptop (Asus Aspire) it didn't respond so I just closed it and didn't turn it off correctly.

When I turn it on now it logs on but neither my keyboard or mousepad works. Doesn't work with an external keyboard or mouse either.

Anyone knows what to do?

Hi all,

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and while recently doing some computer maintenance to get rid of some malware, I most likely screwed up my computer. At the Windows 7 user login screen, my mouse and keyboard are non-responsive. I don't think this is a problem with the actual hardware because I can access the boot menu with F12 when I boot it up. Appreciate any help.

A:Keyboard/Mouse doesn't work on my laptop

Do you have access to your windows installation cd?

A couple days ago, my keyboard and touchpad mouse stopped working. I thought it was a hardware issue and ordered a replacement keyboard. As for the touchpad, I'm just using a wireless mouse. I replaced the keyboard a couple days later with the new one, and when I turned on my laptop, it works again, but when I put my laptop to sleep and wake it up, I hit enter, and then it stops working. I cannot type anything until I restart my computer. I figured it has to do something with the drivers, but I'm not too sure. Here is my computer specs:

Product: HP Pavilion dv9700
Model: dv9925nr
Windows 7 home premium 64bit

I've gone to the HP website to get the drivers, but they do not support windows 7 for my computer.

A:Laptop keyboard does not work after sleep and touchpad

try changing the power plan, as you said when it goes to sleep, it stops working. Ty changing it to high performance.
