I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello I recently put together a new computer and in the process of of installing the USB connector Working - Front USB Device not Device" Ports "Unknown in Manager from the front of my GX case I Front USB Ports not Working - "Unknown Device" in Device Manager either bent numerous pins on the motherboard USB header or the motherboard shipped that way and I inadvertently made matters worse Anyway that header on the motherboard is without a doubt unusable Since I don't really need the USB functionality I bought a USB - gt adapter cable connected one end to the connector on the front of the case and the other end into the USB header on the motherboard Unfortunately when Windows boots and I plug a device into the front ports of the case Windows detects the front USB ports as Unknown Device within Device Manager yet says the driver is successfully installed I've already downloaded the most current Intel chipset drivers for my motherboard deleted and reinstalled all USB drivers and all rear USB connections are working perfectly fine - it's just the two front ports that are connected from the case to the USB ports via the adapter cable I've tried both USB headers on the motherboard and I've tried plugging in several devices to the front USB ports and this problem still persists I've ensured Front USB Ports not Working - "Unknown Device" in Device Manager the connection inside the case is solid yet I cannot get Windows to recognize the front USB ports However I have confirmed that power is being sent to the front ports because it charges my phone when I connect it to the front USB ports via micro USB connection As a result I'm inclined to think this is a Front USB Ports not Working - "Unknown Device" in Device Manager driver issue rather than a hardware issue Any ideas

If your motherboard has a 1x pcie slot you can get a card like this...

Here

Some motherboards it's a tight fit because of the video card taking up space. In that case you can relocate the above card with this...

Hi everybody.

I just bought myself a Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 yesterday. After installing the card and the required drivers everything works like a charm. However, every time I start up my PC I get a message saying that a new device has been found on my system. On checking Device Manager I found an "Unknown device" entry under "Other devices".

I'm attaching a screenshot of Device Manager.

Are there any drivers I'm missing? It only happened after removing my old card (after uninstalling all its drivers) and installing the Radeon.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

A:Unknown Device In Device Manager After Installing Radeon HD 4890

I have a Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 (I also have a Gigabyte 4890 and XFX 4890 in two other PCs). I think you need to install the latest ATI Catalyst Suite. You may have installed the driver only package. Anyway, I think it has to do with the HDMI capabilities of the card. High def sound is built into the card (the HD part of the card name) and the HD sound driver is part of the Catalyst Suite. When you use an HDMI cable to an appropriate display, HD sound is also transmitted through the same cable from the Radeon graphics card.

Of course, be sure to install .NET Framework 2.0 as it is required before you can install the full Catalyst Suite. The HD sound driver won't install without it. At least I had trouble before I installed .NET 3.5. I went to Windows Update and installed .NET Framework 3.5. 2.0 is included in that update and 2.0 wasn't available separately.

How do i figure out what driver or even component windows wants software for when in the device manager under other devices it lists an unknown device and windows update cannot find anything.

Oh and is it appropriate for me to use this topic to ask another question regarding explorer.exe as while i am inside a folder i delete (by choosing delete from the context menu in the tree view) while inside that folder on this particular laptop PC explorer. always crashes, collect information, sends it and restarts explorer. I have not experienced this problem on any other pc running any version of windows 7, oh and the same happened with build 7264 x32 and the current install of build 7600 x64.

Use the link in Step 7

Also I tend to find this tool useful:

Download Tweaking.com - Hardware Identify Portable - MajorGeeks

Edit: On my machine a similarly named device appears to be a webcam.

In the list USB Composite Device doesn't mean much but matching the ID seems to indicate that it's the webcam.

Hello everyone, I hope you could give me some clue that may have caused the appearance of an unknown device. All information here : An unknown device appears

First, That was solved by uninstalling and rebooting, did not appear anymore. But as I said in the previous topic, that solution does not leave me entirely peaceful.
Since when searching for information on the issue, some say it may be a virus. But also by the HWMonitor. I prefer it was caused by HWMonitor instead of a virus.

Can give me a hand to remove my doubts about whether it was caused by a virus or not.

I scanned all the PC with ESET 6 and nothing.

Thank you for your time and help

Sure, lets begin:

1.) Download herdprotect: (choose the portable version)

Download herdProtect - Free Anti-Malware Platform

2.) Run the scan.

3.) When the scan finishes, save the results per the screenshot below. Then upload the log here.

DO NOT REMOVE ANYTHING YET. I will advise if anything needs removed when I receive the log.

Probably drivers for the chipset, all I see on msi's site is 32 bit drivers, so you might be outta luck until they update drivers.

Could always try to download the chipset drivers and point the driver update manually to it.

I have recently bought a reconditioned Fujitsu Lifebook S6120.

I have successfully installed all the drivers from Fujitsu's web site. But there is still one "unknown device" - USB BT. Since the machine has an original Bluetooth sticker and the software does not see bluetooth, I suspect this may stand for USB Bluetooth.

The device has the ID

USB\VID_044E&PID_3001&MI_00\6&125FD8C2&0&0000

Does anybody know what this means?
Are any drivers available for this device?
I have used the XP device manager's WEB search,
and manually Fujitsu's site and Driverguide.com but not found anything.

For the moment I've disabled the device to stop getting repeated "found new hardware" messages.
Many thanks,

Hello I not USB Front Ports Device Device" in Manager - Working "Unknown recently put together a new computer and in the process of of installing the USB connector from the front of my GX case I either bent numerous pins on the motherboard USB header or the motherboard shipped Front USB Ports not Working - "Unknown Device" in Device Manager that way and I inadvertently made matters worse Anyway that header on the motherboard is without a doubt unusable Since I don t really need the USB functionality I bought a USB - gt adapter cable connected one end to the connector on the front of the case and the other end into the USB header on the motherboard Unfortunately when Windows boots and I plug a device into the front ports of the case Windows detects the front USB ports as quot Unknown Device quot within Device Manager yet says the driver is successfully installed I ve already downloaded the most current Intel chipset drivers for my motherboard deleted and reinstalled all USB drivers and all rear USB connections are working perfectly fine - it s just the two front ports that are connected from the case to the USB ports via the adapter cable nbsp I ve tried both USB headers on the motherboard and I ve tried plugging in several devices to the front USB ports and this problem still persists I ve ensured the connection inside the case is solid yet I cannot get Windows to recognize the front USB ports nbsp However I have confirmed that power is being sent to the front ports because it charges my phone when I connect it to the front USB ports via micro USB connection nbsp As a result I m inclined to think this is a driver issue rather than a hardware issue nbsp Any ideas

Do you happen to have a spare machine that you can test the adapter with?  Just as a precaution in case the adapter is faulty.

Hi,

On a fresh clean Windows 8 image, my software driver (signed) installs fine and shows up properly in the Device Manager. However once i uninstall it , subsequent reinstalls show up as 'Unknown Device' in the Device Manager.

From the device details, I find that it refers to /looks for the .inf file in c:\windows\inf folder but the file itself is missing from the location. The FileRepository has all the required files. But trying to update from there also fails.

Could anyone help me with troubleshooting this problem. What could be going wrong.

Thx,
Gita

I upgraded to Windows a while back Every time I open the computer I get a pop-up notification telling me the USB device is unrecognized I have no USB devices in any of my USB ports I sent my computer in twice No help They just uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and told me it should be fixed It is not I then went about updating every driver in my Device Manager I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device and then updated other drivers Certain drivers such as PCI Express Root Port - C (Device Request Device Descriptor Device USB USB\VID_0000&PID_0002\6&7de72a2&0&3 Failed) Unknown when updating would also reinstall the Unknown USB Device which I would then uninstall and keep working down the list Device USB\VID_0000&PID_0002\6&7de72a2&0&3 Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) At the end of updating EVERYTHING I scanned for hardware changes and quot found quot the Unknown USB Device nbsp From what I can tell and I know very little about this stuff my computer can't name one of my USB ports Since it can't figure out what it's called it can't download the proper driver for it Since it can't download the proper driver it can't work properly The practical result from this is that one of my three USB ports does nothing when I put in any USB item connect my android phone thumb drive presentation clicker etc I've looked on tons of forums My current thought is that if I can tell my computer what the deice is or download the right driver and tell my computer to use that driver for this device it should solve my issue But I don't know how to know what the name of the USB port should be I imagine it would be something similar to the other USB ports I don't know who made the USB port I don't know where to search for the drivers on my own and I don't know how to tell my computer to use a downloaded drive for a specific USB Port since it usually coordinates all that on its own I've been on lots of forums and tried lots of solutions Anyone think they can help me with my problem

This package is available on supported notebooks with supported operating systems. File name: sp57232.exe

Hi, Using a HP Pavilion 15-n271ea Notebook (UK model). I've just done a clean install of Windows 10 (version 1511, OS Build 10586.494) along with all subsequent Windows Updates. I'm currently showing an unknown device in device manager and not sure which driver to install. It shows the location as: Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System code 28. I have found the list of possible drivers, but wondered if you could advise which one of the following I should install: http://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-15-n200-Notebook-PC-series/6529948/model... Would be very grateful for any assistance you might be able to offer. The hardware ID information is as follows: ACPI\VEN_ASD&DEV_0001ACPI\ASD0001*ASD0001 Please let me know if there's any further info you require. Many thanks, Lee

I have two devices IEEE 1394 and Realtek RTL8139 listed under UNKNOWN in device manager.
I have deleted ALL previous unknowns (about 7) and when I reboot these two are found and drivers are automatically installed but they still end up under UNKNOWN. I tried reinstalling a new driver and it did not because what was installed was determined to be the best.

SO........ Windoz XP sees the devices, installs drivers, but still lists them as unknown and the LAN doesn't work.

I must say that this started after a McAfee update which I uninstalled - but problem still exists.

So, I was working in a digital audio workstation while in a Skype call with my friend, and all of the sudden the PC just freezes. I tried to speak, but he couldn't hear me. So, I figured that an audio driver installed with the DAW might've contributed to the problem. I went to the Device Manager and saw two unknown devices in the "Other" category. Yet, I don't know what they are. There's really not so many details or information about the two drivers. There's no manufacturer names, descriptions on what they do, and even more suspiciously, they aren't digitally signed. However, there is interesting values they're set as.  One is ROOT\MEDIA\0001, and the other one is ROOT\MEDIA\0002.  In addition, they don't have the necessary drivers, as I googled "Error 28". In addition, I think these drivers are the culprit of my OS malfunctioning.

So, to get a better idea on what's going on I went to the Device Manager, since I figured it might be a driver malfunction. I spot under "Other Devices" some suspicious looking drivers that I do not recognize. I think it might be an ASIO Audio driver that was installed with FL Studio 12, but I am not sure. I googled it and all I could find was tons of websites offering their drivers update service for FvFx CDDCD..... Any help would be appreciated.

A:Unknown dvd drive in Device Manager

To me it appears to be a virtual CDROM drive installed by some game/software you recently or in the distant past installed. Just brood on it.

Without knowing the source - which you only know - the only brute force method of getting rid of it is to try a system restore to an earliest point of time available which may or may not get rid of it. Depends when it - the virtual drive - was created.

I clean installed an ASUS Laptop Model a2500h, Windows XP Home edition SP3.

There are two drivers that I can't seem to locate. The Hardware ID's are as follows.

ACPI\WEC0515
ACPI\WEC0517\4&19A7495A&O

I know ASUS often has utility programs that show up as drivers, for example I had the ACPI\ATK0100 which was listed as an UNKNOWN DEVICE, and I installed that utility fine.

I am just not sure about the other two. I was told on another forum that it could be something to do with the sound drivers, but I suspect it is one of ASUS' little utility programs.

Any help would be appreciated. Also if any additional info is required, let me know and I will post it.

A:Device Manager 2 Unknown devices Help?

You can go to asus's official website to download drivers, in most cases is a sound card problem.Or you can go to download a "My Drivers", to another similarly configured machine up a backup drive, then copy to your computer up.Good luck.

Location: PCI bus 2, device 2, function 0.

I have tried to un-install controller, it comes back.

What do I do with this "Generic" controller that has no name, I dont know what driver to look for because I dont know what it is.

Please Help...

Hi all please see attached dxdiag for my system specs note that this is a big desktop PC this morning i noticed a device in the device manger which isn't working properly Normally if it's not a major issue i'd consider that sort of thing a silly nitpick However i'm currently experiencing a major problem which manager: controller, device in USB host Code 43 Unknown shall have its own thread later and i need to start eliminating possible suspects i tried to research this little issue and i found some steps that seem really good for major discrete components unfortunately usb host controller is a generic entity i'm not honestly sure if it even corresponds to any particular usb headers or external ports I've already tried the basic steps of disabling enabling it un reinstalling the device restarting the computer leaving it powered off for five minutes etc anyways details the device is listed under the Universal Serial Bus controllers section of the manager as Unknown Device When i open up the properties menu i see the following info Device type USB controllers Manufacturer Standard USB Host Controller Location Port Hub Device Status Windows has Unknown device in manager: USB host controller, Code 43 stopped this device because it has reported problems Code going by instructions i found Unknown device in manager: USB host controller, Code 43 elsewhere i was trying to hunt through the details tab for the hardware ID Unfortunately that option only reports the value USB UNKNOWN so far the only ray of hope i've found was some mentions of a problem related to laptop batteries unfortunately this is a desktop PC so that advice wasn't applicable please provide advice and troubleshooting steps

A:Unknown device in manager: USB host controller, Code 43

Well...the first thing I would do...is delete all "controller" items under USB in Device Manager.  Not bother with "hubs" or any other listings, just the items with "conrroller" in the listed description under USB.

Reboot after removing all such.

A:Looking for advice on a VERY suspicious "unknown" entry in device manager

I will start my own question thread if you want but I believe we have the same trojan.*A word about this trojan: after detecting it by running rKill to stop it, then SuperAntiSpyware to detect it, I reboot and delete/quarantine right away, allowing for the reboot. Upon reboot, I run rKill again then SAS again and it finds it again every time. I backed up to my second drive then removed it and reinstalled windows 7, 64-bit. So I reinstalled windows and it seemed to still be there after a short time of being on the network... but I was able to remove it using a combination of ComboFix, rKill and SAS. But, when I plugged in my second drive again BAM! it was back and irremovable again. It could be the virus is on the network here at home, or the second hard drive with my backup, or I could have gotten it from the internet while I was grabbing drivers. Regardless, once the PC is clean I will again clean reinstall, I just need it to be clean first so that I can perform the backup without backing up the trojan!*I ran a scan on the other household computers and they all have it. So, I will disconnect the network cable from this computer and just transfer files to it from another (known clean linux PC) computer until I know how to fix it (so it won't get reinfected by the others). Then one by one fix the rest (then connect them to the network again).I also have many of the same files (see here):C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\Temp\RarSFX0>tree /fFolder PATH listingVolume serial number is F4A5-1E44C:.│ curo.reg│ extra.dat│ lmro.reg│ lmroe.reg│ nircmd.chm│ nircmd.exe│ nircmdc.exe│ pev.exe│ prep.bat│ proxycheck.exe│ rkill.bat│ rkill.reg│ s.inf│ sed.exe│ serv.dat│ sh.vbs│ swreg.exe│ userinit.exe│ winlogon.exe│ wl.txt│├───h│ explorer.exe│ iexplore.exe│├───nird└───procs iexplore.exe proc.datC:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\Temp\RarSFX0>This seems to be a new Trojan.Agent/Gen-IExplorer[Fake] type of trojan. I have a dv7-2170us laptop.I performed a clean install with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.I used the drivers for this laptop model from the HP site.I'm getting a few unknown devices in Device Manager.I've tried un-installing the devices and re-installing to allow Windows to re-detect but no drivers are found.  See pictures below, what devices could these possibly be referring to? I have all the necessary drivers loaded that I am aware of and I installed any driver that looked valid from the HP drivers site.

A:Unknown devices in Windows 7 device manager - dv7-2170us

EDIT: Everything works!  Thanks for the tip Daniel.  I googled how to identify hardware id's and came up with this site http://www.pcidatabase.com/ , punched in the device id's and bam, it WAS the card reader.  Weird because it was working perfectly.  But I downloaded the driver anyway and re-installed and this resolved the issue.  ============================================= I tried the Intel Chipset Utility, didn't work. Here's the hardware id's though:  If you look closely you'll notice that each of these devices are in fact different.

Ok here s the story I recently quot remodeled quot my mother s computer Replaced everything except for the hard drive The drive that s in there has a pretty fresh about a month Windows XP installation updated to SP I basically gutted the computer and put in a new MB CPU RAM and just left the hard drive I got rid of all of the old drivers When I restarted I installed the drivers for the new hardware Chipset drivers all OK video drivers all OK Ethernet drivers all OK USB working fine Unfortunately sound driver will not install I originally used the driver directly unknown manager. + problems Onboard sound Device in PCI off of the motherboards installation CD Then I tried downloading various different ones from the ASUS website None of them worked I repeatedly receive the error quot We can t find HD audio device quot So far I ve Onboard sound problems + unknown PCI Device in manager. tried the following - Driver that came with the CD received error - Ensured that onboard audio is enabled in the system BIOS - Driver from ASUS website received error - Driver from VIAArena received error - Installed MS UAA HD Audio driver did nothing - Tried various different drivers again received error - Ran Everest which detected no sound hardware Every time I boot the computer Windows is also detecting a quot PCI Device quot which is unknown and shows the yellow trouble signal in Onboard sound problems + unknown PCI Device in manager. device manager I have to imagine this is the onboard sound However even if I point it to the driver folder directly the wizard finds no matching drivers for said quot PCI Device quot I also can t get it to stop picking it up Every time the system reboots it wants to try to install it again There are no PCI devices attached to the motherboard whatsoever as I m using the onboard video LAN sound etc So what do I do now For reference the motherboard is an ASUS M A -CM nbsp

I have a Dell Inspiron M731R laptop upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 Home 64-Bit that suddenly quit connecting to the home network. Was using wireless, so switched to an Ethernet cable, but still no luck. I just discovered that ALL of the network-related devices are now listed under an "Unknown" tab in the Device Manager. A check of properties of each item in that folder says they are all working properly, but that obviously isn't the case. I tried uninstalling each of the 4 items, but when they are recognized again they still show up under the Unknown tab. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate. Since very recently an unknown device keeps popping up in the device manager every time I start Win. It's reported location is within the front USB root hub but I haven't changed there anything lately. The device status reports "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43)". I can uninstall/disable it but it will get picked up again the next time I reboot. All other usb devices (mouse, keyboard, web camera, APC UPS, external drive, printer) work fine. How do I get rid of this nuisance so that it doesn't reappear?

Dell Vostro 1400, Core2Duo. Installed Windows 7 64 bit a year and a half ago. For those not familiar, the Vostro is not entirely compatible with 64 bit, so the drivers are a little hit and miss.

Computer runs slow sometimes, has since the install. I don't think I've ever seen the yellow triangles before, but I may have never looked at the device manager ... the computer is a secondary machine in the house.

My question is, do these indicate a performance problem or can I ignore them and assume the computer is working as best it can?

A:Base system device, core processors yellow triangle in device manager

please check out this webpage. it may help you to get started: Device Manager - yellow exclamation point

The yellow icons showing an exclamation point can indicate missing or improper drivers. The system does not seem to recognizing your hardware. Hope this gets you started.

I see three different audio driver packages at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...ct=3646926#N661.You need to find the right one to install. If you install one and the system doesn't work properly...please uninstall it before trying the next one.Installing the wrong one won't do anything harmful to your system...it just won't do any good to leave it installed.Louis

My computer keeps telling me Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed), so I looked up how to fix it and they told me to uninstall it then scan for hardware changes and it will reappear working properly. Only it did not come back working properly, it came back the same. I am also 98% sure that this "unknown USB device" is my built-in webcam that has never once worked. So if someone wants to help me out and allow me to use my webcam that would be great!

I have purchased E5-573G-389U few months back. Since then I am not able to connect any of my mobiles be it Motorola or Samsung to the laptop. Everytime it says 'Unknown USB device (device descriptor request failed) driver error'.  I have tried a lot of options in your discussion forum but nothing worked. I am just fed up with the problem. I will request you to provide the solution to the said problem at the earliest. It was really a bitter experience buying this laptop.

Fresh install of Windows 10 and the last driver I need to sort out is the above.

I believe it is my powered USB 3 hub to which I plug in my keyboard and mouse. Technically it is working but I don't like seeing yellow triangles on devices.

So are there any fixes?

A:Unknown USB Device (device descriptor request failed)

If it's a generic USB 2.0 Powered Hub then technically there's should be no drivers needed by Windows, if it's a USB 3.0 Hub then I'm unsure (since I don't own any USB 3.0 Hubs).

Might be a Windows bug, basically Windows can't find the description information to display the Hub's name in the Device Manager example: Generic USB Hub, Root Hub Device, etc....

I'm pretty sure everything is working as should, you're good minus the minor annoyance if all device connected through the USB Hub is recognized by Windows; if you right click Properties on the yellow triangle it probably says "The Device is working properly".

A:Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Is there only one USB port on the right hand side? Sometimes manufacturers connect internal devices via an unused USB port internally. USB ports are usually in groups of two, seeing only one port is usually a sign that the wiring has been redirected internally to something else like a Bluetooth adapter or wifi adapter. It may even be a card reader or touchpad. Is anything like that not working? If it is start looking for a driver for it.

binodpandey, That's not really an Acer issue.  That's an issue with Microsoft Windows 10 and Samsung or Motorola.  Acer doesn't have any control over Microsoft Windows 10 when it comes to supporting third party phones. Check with Microsoft forum. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_devices/windows-10-does-not-s...

After installing Windows 10 anniversary update, I get the following error in the device manger: Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Tried uninstalling and restarting PC. Reinstalled Windows made from media tool. Nothing fixed it. Did a google search and nothing has worked. No USB drivers on the PC maker's website.

Any ideas?

You can try going into device manager > select show hidden devices and delete all "inactive" usb device appearances. In my example below, there would be four. Once done, reboot and try your device again:

I have had the Microsoft Wireless 2000 Keyboard and mouse for 10 months and it has been working fine. But recently when I plugged it in I got an error message which said :The last USB Device you connected to this computer malfunctioned. and Windows does
not recognize it.
I opened Devices and Printers and it said Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

Also it is on Windows 10 Home

I am having an issue where my DVD/CD RW has a code 19 error in device manager. The drive still works as I used it to boot a Windows CD and run a startup repair to see if that found anything. I tried uninstalling the drive and then scanning and it failed to install the drive. I also tried uninstalling the drive and rebooting, but it wouldn't install. Any suggestions?

I fixed the issue by doing what this Microsoft Support Article said: The CD drive or the DVD drive does not work as expected on a computer that is running Windows Vista

A:multiple bluetooth devices in device manager, but only one device installed?????

What type of keyboard have you got?
Have you got any remote control devices around.
Have you got a headset for your phone.
Have you got anything that may be bluetooth that you dont know about (headphones etc).
Have you had a look at ghost devices on the tutorials;
