Laptop disconnects from network

Q: Laptop disconnects from network

Hi, i have a problem

my laptop disconnects from the network from time to time ONLY when my sister is connected to the network with her laptop at the same time. At any other time, my internet runs smoothly.. her laptop never disconnects, only mine!

My laptop: Toshiba Satellite running Windows 7 Home Premium
Sisters: Hewlett Packard running Windows Vista Business with SP2

My router is a 'Home Network Gateway' from Telstra Bigpond.

I think that should be enough info for an expert to figure out the problem, please help! thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you have McAfee Life Safe (antivirus) on the system, disable it.  That likely will solve the problem - if it does, your best course of action is to uninstall that software and use the built-in Microsoft Defender (it'll automatically turn on once McAfee is gone).

Hi, I've got a wifi router Edimax BR-6204Wg that is serving several computers in my home. All of them run Linux. The network is WPA-protected, only registered MAC addresses can connect.

All is well until I boot to Windows on ANY computer I've tried (both Dell Latitude). What happens next is that Windows connects to the network, disconnects after a while and all the other computers disconnect from the network as well. The Windows laptop then connects again and as long as there is no other connected computer on the network, stays connected.

I am a rather advanced user but cannot read Ethereal dumps, so I wonder if anyone has had a similar problem? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Crazy problem here. I have set up three new Dell computers with Win XP Pro to connect online to Win2K Server. Everything hooks up and works great until I reboot the machine. When this occurs, nothing connects back to the network. I can ping ok etc but the mapped drives never come back up. I have spent an entire day trying to get this one cleared up but to no avail. I can ping the server, the gateway etc and have great internet access and email access. Just can't see the server.
Any suggestions appreciated.

I run a small workgroup and have one PC that persistently cannot be accessed or even viewed on the running network. Eventually I tracked the problem down to non-running Workstation and Server services on that PC. If I manually set the startup mode to Automatic and start these services on the PC, then all is well; but on the next reboot, they are stopped again. Also, trying to manually start the Firewall/ICS service gives an "error 5: Access denied" - although the account is an administrator account. Have scanned for virus and spyware, all OK. Any ideas?

Let's give this a try, can't hurt.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

For these commands, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

my internet connection keeps going off and I have phoned my service provider to trouble shoot but it keeps on happening intermittantly. I have restarted my computer and then it goes back online. It is connected to a modem. He mentioned to me that it maybe that my network card may be not working properly, but our computer is only 7 months old.

I have for a while now occasionally been using the internet, and have my computer randomly disconnect from the internet. This doesn't happen to anyone else in my house (we have 4 computers all connected by cable). I wonder if this is an ethernet cable issue, but I was wondering if there were any other possibilities.

Any help given would be appreciated.

A:Network Disconnects Automatically after 20 min

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Make and exact model and hardware version of any other network equipment, like a repeater, a booster, hi-gain antenna, etc.
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

Have you tried to do a system restore to before the problem occurred?
If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
For wireless connection issues, have you removed all the stored wireless network profiles and then searched for the network?
For wireless laptops, have you made SURE the wireless switch is on?
For wired connection issues, have you booted in Safe Mode with Networking to see if that changes the symptoms?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key:

PING 74.125.45.100

PING yahoo.com

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

For Christmas we purchased an all in one Dell Inspiron, along with a new Toshiba LED TV. I just recently figured out how to use the TV's mediashare function, playing video/audio files from my Dell's hard drive.

Prior to the update to Windows 8.1, there didn't seem to be any issues. However, since that update, we'll be watching a video file (several, it doesn't seem to matter what the file is) and the file will stop playing, and a message saying connection was lost will pop up. When I then check the computer, it shows it has "limited connection" to the home network, and I'll have to disconnect and reconnect before we can start watching again.

From what I can tell, it ONLY happens during mediashare use, and never during normal computer usage.

Any clue what might be going on?

A:Win 8.1 disconnects from network during mediashare

You have to go back in and fix the power settings, when you upgrade to Windows 8.1. You would probably be best to use a Network drive that has a media share interface like Twonky Beam on it, then just the computer as a Network share.

I have set up a small wireless network, with two notebooks using wireless dongles. It all works well, but even though I have set the notebooks to connect to the preferred network automatically, every time they restart I have to manually connect and type in the WEP key. This is a big hassle - Why won't they connect to the detected network?

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key:

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

my computer is upstairs with a PCI wireless G linksys card in it. the router downstairs is a WRT G router linksys. i will get about 36-54mbps most of the time and the speed is great, but randomly maybe every 5-20 minutes it will disconnect for like 5 seconds and reconnect to the network, which of course causes a lot of lag in games and will make webpages not load during the reconnect. there is a computer upstairs also 1 room away which has the same setup and gets perfect signal never disconnects. what could be the problem, is my wireless card bad? its only a year old. ive tried changing the channel settings like the linksys site reccomends but it doesnt help

A:random network disconnects

Here's a possibility:

Try this:

1. Click start button
2. Click "My Network Places"
3. Right-click and click on "Properties"
4. Right-click on "Local Area Connection" and click on "Properties"
5. click on the "Authentication" tab
6. Uncheck "Enable network access control using IEEE 802.1X"
7. Click "OK"
Are you using Windows XP's WZC to manage the connection?

Hello,

My first post here so hopefully I explain well and follow procedure.

We are on a large network, AD, etc. No roaming profiles.

I have a network drive that 3 employees connect to. One employee has no trouble with it. The other two have it randomly disconnect several times a week. The network drive just comes disappears. It does not happen after a reboot or any specific event. It appears completely random.

I have no error messages to provide information unfortunately.

Any ideas what could be going on here?

Thanks!

Hello Everyone,

I got a small problem I wanted to share..
Sometimes when I am working on my laptop doing whatever it just disconnects me out of the blue.
It shows this stupid icon and says that there are no connections possible:
At first, I did not know what to do so I just began doing some random things on the network center. Then I figured out how to solve it:

First open network center
Then, Open adapter settings
Disable your Wifi network card
Next, Enable it again
And then your internet connection is back again

Now this works fine on short term, it takes like less then one minute, but its starting to drive me crazy now so does any one knows why it does this and how I can solve it once and for all?

A:Wifi randomly disconnects me from network :(

Right off the bat I'm thinking it is related to your marginal signal strength as shown in the last image. My advice is to test it when you get 4 or 5 solid bars and see if it happens. I guess that means you will have to move closer to the router; yes? Hope this helps.

Mod edit moved from networking several malware infections from Networking) disconnects Network (moved I started to get this problem about a month and a half ago but at the time it was so infrequent that I really didn t think much of it I had just assumed that it was one of the typical Windows screwups that happens from Network disconnects (moved from Networking) time to time and that I had just run out of luck on avoiding Network disconnects (moved from Networking) it But over the past two weeks or so it has been pretty Network disconnects (moved from Networking) much every single day this will happen but not at a set time of usage or time of day It may be an hour into what I am doing or it may work for hours but I leave my computer on and then come back an hour later to find the connection gone What I do not understand is that this seems to affect browser capabilities but does not have an effect on any other software running in the background that requires internet access If I was downloading a program I still have that connection running however I will not be able to browse the internet until I reset the Winsock catalogue and reset the computer I would probably think nothing of this if the cache clearing didn t require a reset but it is very frustrating when you have to turn off your computer in the middle of work because of this error Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v Scan saved at PM on Platform Windows XP SP WinNT MSIE Internet Explorer v Boot mode Normal Running processes C WINDOWS System smss exe C WINDOWS system winlogon exe C WINDOWS system services exe C WINDOWS system lsass exe C WINDOWS system Ati evxx exe C WINDOWS system svchost exe C WINDOWS System svchost exe C WINDOWS system Ati evxx exe C WINDOWS Explorer EXE C WINDOWS system spoolsv exe C Program Files Lavasoft Ad-Aware aawservice exe C Program Files TOSHIBA Power Management CeEPwrSvc exe C Program Files TOSHIBA ConfigFree CFSvcs exe C WINDOWS System DVDRAMSV exe C Program Files Common Files Microsoft Shared VS DEBUG MDM EXE C Program Files Microsoft SQL Server MSSQL MICROSOFTBCM Binn sqlservr exe C WINDOWS System svchost exe C Program Files TOSHIBA E-KEY CeEKey exe C Program Files TOSHIBA Power Management CePMTray exe C WINDOWS system dla tfswctrl exe C Program Files TOSHIBA Touch and Launch PadExe exe C WINDOWS AGRSMMSG exe C Program Files TOSHIBA TouchPad TPTray exe C Program Files EzButton EzButton EXE C Program Files HP HP Software Update HPWuSchd exe C Program Files HP hpcoretech hpcmpmgr exe C Program Files Common Files Real Update OB realsched exe C Program Files TOSHIBA TOSCDSPD toscdspd exe C WINDOWS system ctfmon exe C Program Files Veoh Networks Veoh VeohClient exe C WINDOWS system RAMASST exe C Program Files Mozilla Firefox firefox exe C Program Files Microsoft Office OFFICE WINWORD EXE C Program Files Trend Micro HijackThis HijackThis exe R - HKCU Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Start Page about blank R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Default Page URL http ca yahoo com R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Default Search URL http go microsoft com fwlink LinkId R - HKLM Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Search Page http go microsoft com fwlink LinkId R - HKCU Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Main Window Title Windows Internet Explorer provided by Yahoo Canada R - HKCU Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Internet Settings ProxyServer R - URLSearchHook Yahoo Toolbar - EF BD -C FB- D - F- D F - no file O - Hosts searchit com Parasite Pugi O - BHO H - FA - C - ce- D - E ABC A - no file O - BHO AcroIEHlprObj Class - E F-C D - D -B D- B D BE B - C Program Files Adobe Acrobat ActiveX AcroIEHelper dll O - BHO ChangerBHO Class - edc c -a c- db- ab - c a - no file O - BHO ContextualAds Class - AAC C -AFC - DB- EF- AF D - C Program Files TrustIn Contextual trustincontext dll O - BHO iMeshBar BHO - A A - A- -B - B FEBA FE - no file O - BHO DriveLetterAccess - CA D E- - CF- E - - C WINDOWS system dl... Hi,

I have a network with up to a dozen computers at any one time.
All have static ips
Most are wired.

The prob is between 2 wireless computers.
If I run both comps with windows xp, all is fine.
But 1 of the pcs is often booted from a live (Puppy) Linux cd.
When I boot using Linux, both of these pcs start dis/reconnecting to the network, every few minutes.
The nics both have different macs, & they are both assigned their own static ips correctly.
Another wireless pc on the network is not affected.

Any ideas why the disconnects & how to solve this prob?

PS. I am using a Netgear 824 router.

Thanks for any replies

Hi all,

I downloaded the latest .NET Framework update from Microsoft (.NET Framework 3.5 SP1). Now, I decided that rather than downloading the 231MB through the Update site three times, I'd download the full installer, and copy it to the other machines.

The download worked fine, but when I copy the file between my computers, across a wireless network, partway through it disconnects.

Any ideas what would cause this? Thank you in advanced.

I recently formatted my PC and upon reinstalling Windows I ve started having a problem with network connectivity I use a wired connection from the motherboard network output Network disconnects, skips media via a router but have found the same problem Network disconnects, media skips when connecting the PC directly to the modem Every now and then the network disconnects showing the yellow triangular exclamation mark on the network status in the system tray When it does this any music or video I might be playing continues but cuts out for a split-second every seconds or so have googled about network disconnects being related to audio skipping but nobody else in the world seems to have had this problem The problems are definitely related in my case Network won t reconnect when left alone but if I Network disconnects, media skips right click on the network icon in the system tray and click Troubleshoot it fixes the problem by resetting the network adapter and presumably issuing a fresh IP address Unfortunately this only works temporarily it s either a matter of minutes or hours Network disconnects, media skips before it does it again Currently I don t have any other devices using the network I m not an expert but have some experience troubleshooting network Windows PC stuff I have never had this problem before and think I ve isolated it to either the network card cable unlikely or software network configuration I use Vuze and Spotify - could this be a port problem Is some program trying to change my settings It happens without using either program - but for a while I was convinced Vuze was the problem as it seemed to happen more often when using it I m going to try and find my old wireless network USB stick to see if it s my hardware that s the problem - but I d really rather use my cable as it s faster Also surely if it works when I do the Troubleshoot reset it s not a hardware problem but a software configuration problem Of course any help would be greatly appreciated If anybody requires additional information about my setup I ll get back ASAP If I don t reply the same day please forgive me - I work odd hours and can t always get to my PC nbsp

A:Network disconnects, media skips

Is this the only PC that disconnects - do other devices connected work OK - if so how are they connected to the router - wireless or wired

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.

Please make a note of the status of the lights on the modem and on the router when working normally - post that light status here.
Now when the internet disconnects make a note of the status of the lights for the modem and router here again. also note which have changed.

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG etc

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy

Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.
The results from the notepad should now appear in the forum reply.

Type the following command
Ping {then a space and then add the number that is shown against the item labelled "default gateway" shown in the results from the ipconfig /all}
Post back the results in a reply here
right click in the command prompt box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and

Type the following command

these tests will check various stages of the connection, the first ping test, ping default gateway checks to see if you still have a connection to the router.

I have a small Windows XP peer-to-peer network and one of my workststions keeps disconnecting randomly. One moment it can browse the network and see all other workstations - then suddenly it can only see itself in the workgroup list. Checking the status of the network connection shows that the PC is sending packets, but not receiving any. In safe mode as well. Have tried resetting TCP/IP stack, reinstalling the adapter driver, etc. The problem is its randomness, because sometimes it networks fine for a few minutes or hours, then drops without explanation.
Have checked for virus and spyware as well, no luck. Anybody seen this before?

Can you tell us something about the network? Wired, wireless, what? How about the make/model of the machine in question, as well as the network adapter if it's not built-in. Have you changed the cable, port on the router or switch, etc.?

Hello, I seem to be having an issue with my internet disconnecting after playing a flash video, or any sort of flash program.

I am using wireless connection.
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop.
It has been happening since I've gotten Windows 7.

Also - It happens when I am on Skype too.

Those are the ONLY times it's happened, using a flash program (I got on NFL.com and go to gamecenter, that's flash) and Skype.

(Note: I've updated my network drivers already, it said "Windows has determined you network drivers are up to date."

Any help will be appreciated.

Does the same happen if using Ethernet connection?

For wifi - check device manufacturer's support site for wifi driver update. Also check system manufacturer's support site.

Windows XP.
RCN is the ISP
Linksys Wireless 24 GHz external card

I would assume it's the network or the card, but I can right-click the icon in the systray and choose Repair, and this works SOMEtimes. I can unplug and replug the wireless card (at the card) and this works SOMEtimes.

Generally, I can connect. I suspect that I'll have to reconnect to hit the Submit New Thread button now, though. (and I did)

I can't seem to figure out whats causing it. All the network cards/mobo drivers are updated on all computers, firmware for the router is up to date. The new computer is on Vista while the other two I have connected to it is on XP. Does that make a difference?

A:Network disconnects internet on startup

Its nothing to do with the operating systems :| Its probabaly just a setting you haven't changed. Uninstall the router and reinstall it or just simply hold the reset button at the back of the router in for 20 seconds. This will reset it to default settings.

Hi,

I have got a bit of a problem with two laptops connecting to a network, one is an old dell with a zyxel pcmcia wireless card and a d-link usb ethernet adaptor, and the other is a lenovo 3000 n200 using its in-built ethernet and wireless.

They can both connect to the network, but after about 15-20 mins they just cut off, they have been tried using both wired and wireless connections and the problem is the same with each one. The only way to get them back is to keep restarting the PC or doing the 'repair' on the network connection.

The odd thing is that the 6 other desktops in the office work fine over the network without cutting out!

please help

cheers

Hi,
In the last 4-8 weeks i have noticed a trend that when any laptop detects a Network connection or disconnection it automatically launches the MSN home page on the browser
We have out local intranet set to home page. and MSN is popping up instead intermittently
Ive noticed this since we last updated our end users via WSUS.
We are all mostly running windows 8.1 x64.
To no success we have attempted this below:
Modify this registry key to 0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet\EnableActiveProbing
But it still reoccurs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

This problem sort of started out of no where with my computer where it will connect to my network for a second or two then immediately disconnect. Other computer and devices connect without a problem. I have also experienced this with every network I have tried to connect to; it does the same thing.

I figure it is therefore a problem with my laptop itself, but trouble shooting has yielded nothing and most of the fixes I have found require connecting to the network, but obviously I cannot do that.

I can connect with an Ethernet cable just fine. My guess would be that there is a setting that is incorrect within the wireless on my computer, but what that is I could not even venture to guess.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The only thing that comes to my mind is that your present location is much more susceptible to Radio Frequency Interference.

Did you try changing the channel in the Wireless Settings of your router? ( There are 13 ) Atleast one should prove to be better.

If your other wireless devices work fine from the same location as your laptop then check these solutions..

lenovo y500 wi-fi serious problem - Lenovo Community

What they mean by the black and white wires is to remove the wifi cover and you will see a board with two removable wires that are clipped onto the board.
Please make sure your laptop is unplugged and the battery removed before checking the looseness of the wires.

I do not recommend resetting your bios to default setting, skip that part.

I saw reconnect Wireless IP. network get won't connection and disconnects, this thread http www bleepingcomputer com forums t wireless-connection-stuck-on-acquiring-network-addressforever First I Wireless network connection disconnects, won't reconnect and get IP. want to say that I don't think there was ever a malware problem on this machine a Lenovo R It worked ok for a long time but a year or so ago it started disconnecting from the wireless network It would say connected and acquiring network address but it never completed I did a network tcp ip reset on it that didn't change anything I got another identical wifi bluetooth card and changed it no difference A few days ago it was working then stopped with the acquiring network address and as a test I gave it a static IP on the local network and it connected It worked until I shut down Today I booted up same static IP configured and it worked OK for about an hour Then it stopped working and said acquiring network address even though it had a static number configured I checked Very odd So something is amiss here More than meets the eye I started reading threads including the one I referenced above I compared some of the regedits that were recommended then but nothing really stood out I did notice that even though the Remote Procedure Call RPC Service is marked as started and automatic the start stop buttons are grayed I could not determine for sure that it's running or not but I admit I don't know that it needs to be running Admittedly this is an odd one It could be a hardware problem on the motherboard but I can't find any evidence of that Any ideas

Hello,
the place I work has a local network with almost 20 computers.
One of them is used just to receive some pdfs from the scanner and it has our database (on PostgreSQL).
The problem is that after some time we can't access it through explorer typing "\\server" on the address bar, but the connection to the bank on PostgreSQL keeps working.
I already deactivated the power saving mode of the network drive of the computer.
What can be happening and what can I do?

Thanks in advance,

So I just installed a new driver to my network adapter and suddenly my LAN/router cable is no longer recognised as connected.

I restarted and got back an active network connection and tried to setup IP, subnet mask and DNS but couldn't remember my standard gateway. Turned out I couldn't use ipconfig /all in cmd anymore either.

No of the other computers connected to the router had any problems (though they were wireless) and thus resetting the router didn't help.

I tried removing the driver altogether and installing an older version but with the same outcome.
Please help.

I have recently subscribed to a local cable ISP and have a Linksys wireless router broadcasting throughout my house. About every half hour, my wireless internet icon in the task bar flashes that it is connected to my home connnection at full signal, and then just after, disconnects.

I am running a toshiba laptop with windows XP pro SP3
In Wireless Network Connection Properties, I have my home internet connect configured at the top of the list in wireless networks, the box that says "use windows to automatically configure..." is checked. Under my connection's properties, it is set to connect even if it's not broadcasting, and to connect when it is in range.

Even when it disconnects, you can see that it still shows up in my wireless networks list at full signal, but it does not automatically connect.

Any suggestions?

Hello

I have a few computers here in my office that randomly disconnects from the mapped network drive which is on our server. Both computers are operating on Windows XP Professional and the server is running Windows 2003 Server (small business edition). All computers have plenty of RAM (at least 1 Gig each) and are most likely P4 chipsets (one is a brand new Dell Optiplex and the other is no name brand). I did check to see if I have enough licenses on my server, which we have 10 and we have a total of 7 computers accessing the server. If anyone can help me with this issue, please post ASAP so I can get this issue resolved.

We have a problem with the connection to our server. The server disconnects randomly from minutes to hours all day. I am at a remote location and connect via logmein to a local pc at the servers physical location to remotely control and connect to the server. A month or so ago the connection would drop every few minutes. The staff at that location replaced the switch and had the ISP tech check out the router. No problems were found. I think it is a problem with the server itself but don't know what it could be. Typically I can go through the login process and reconnect. I'm sorry I can't be more specific about the equipment since it is 40 miles away. Any suggestions on troubleshooting? Remotely?
Clearly I'm not a network guy.
Thanks for any help or direction

The problem is my computer ASUS ul 30-a up until a few days ago was running fine on wireless until a couple of days ago when the wireless constantly was cutting out every minute or so and reconecting 10-15 seconds later. I have reformatted my computer and installed multiple new driver from the Asus website. When wired into the router the internet works perfectly. But wireless even directly next to it does not work. Their are 2 other laptops in the house neither which have had any problem dropping connections. Another thing I fine odd is that my computer is perfectly fine on my wireless at school. I have tried resetting the router and multiple router setting but still nothing. Renew release Ip, Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It then takes a few (long) minutes for the network, and the internet access to it to reconnect. In the meantime ALL devices in the house (other laptops, ipads etc) lose connection too. It's only my computer which does this, so i'm assuming that there's something wrong with the settings on my computer.Has anyone come across this problem and/or know a solution? Some more information:Computer: Sony VAIO VPCSEWireless network is used (all devices in the house)Windows 7If you can help then please do! A:Wireless Network adapter disconnects then cant find networks help!

How is your signal strength? If you haven't already, you could try using a 3 foot USB extension so you can move the dongle to a more favorable reception position. If that doesn't help, just get a new one. I use one of these for one of my PCs and they seem to tend to fail after awhile.

I'm using a Rosewill USB adapter now and that one has been the most reliable so far.

Hi and Welcome to Seven Forums,

Thank you for all the detail info that you've provided, they are all quite helpful. Your Xirrus snip and ipconfig/all output looks good.
You might want to disable the Power Mode setting of your Wi-Fi adapter in Device Manager see if that helps, here's an image.

Can you also try a wired connection if possible and see if you can replicate the issue?

Whenever I'm away from my laptop (Dell, Windows XP) for more than a few minutes, it disconnects from the internet, and I have to re-boot to re-connect. This is happening with my current wireless home network, but it used to happen when I had a wired connection. The internet signal strength is excellent.

Is there a setting I need to change, or is there just something wrong with my computer? Is it fixable or do I just need a new one? (I've already tried turning off the various hibernate features.)

A:Laptop Disconnects From Internet

bjbmd, some suggestions:

- since both wired and wireless had a common denominator (loss of wireless), have you checked your isp?
- how much memory do you have? Make sure virtual memory is set efficiently
- run CleanDisk from System Accessories to clear out cache
- defragment your the os drive in safe mode
- make sure you have the latest drivers for your wireless card (check manufacturer's website to update)
- make sure you have the latest firmware for your wireless router (also check manufacturer's website)
- check your cables to ensure they are in good shape
- run a good spyware scan (spybot, ad-aware, or avg-antispyware)

How are you connecting at school (ethernet or wireless)? At home?

If wireless at home, have you tried ethernet? Is there another network in range on the same or close channel as yours?

Are any other computers connected to the router at home? If so, how? And do they suffer the same disconnects?

I got the Buffalo LinkStation(network storage) yesterday.I immediately connected it to my router, and set it up.All worked fine until I tried to move my movie collection(average file size 700 MB).It first said it will take 5 minutes, but after 1 minute it froze, saying it couldnt connect to the LinkStation. My Laptop(Vista Home Premium 32bit,Asus X72V) then disconnected from the router(also no internet).after reconnecting i tried a music file, which was transferred in a matter of seconds.
My other Laptop doesnt disconnect, although writing to Linkstation is awfully slow...

What can i do?
(In the moment i directly connect over ethernet-less than a hour for 50 GB-i have a modern laptop,300 mb wlan)

Hi guys!

I am having the problem that my Laptop, despite full wireless signal, sporadically disconnects from the internet. I hardly realize it until I talk to my family on Skype. It happens up to every 15 minutes. I don't think it's a router related issue because I can use Skype for 2 hours straight on my iphone (using my wireless network) without a problem... I am wondering if I have a setup issue on my Laptop?

Thank you for your help!

A:Laptop disconnects from Internet randomly

moved to networking forum

can we see the following information when its working correctly and again when disconnects
------------------------------------------------------------------------
{ipconfig /all}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste
------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------
{Ping Tests}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

Type the following command
Ping {plus the number thats shown against the default gateway shown in above ipconfig /all}
Post back the results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping google.com
Post back the results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping 209.183.226.152
post back results
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste
------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
Direct link to the program is here http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifi_download_redirect.php
Then run and install the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Are you by chance using "homegroup" and are the other machines older OS'es?

win 7 uses IPv6 in homegroup. That really is only meant to be used with win 7 machine and not older machines or routers. they are meant to run workgroup and use IPv4.

Hi there I have two laptops sitting next to each other One of them works fine but the second one although it connects at first disconnects after a few site searches Both computers are connected through their WN B network adapters The laptops IP addresses set on automatic and their names are different and the problem only happens on that particular computer The strange thing is that the computer gets connected without a problem when mine is not connected and it has no problem connecting through Ethernet The computer which is a VAIO VGN-FS W and has a Turkish XP on it is Disconnects Netgear from Laptop WNR834B updated both on the Microsoft side and the VAIO side Mine a VAIO VGN-AR G works without a glitch I even tried switching the network adapters and I still got the same problem Questions I have in mind Could this happen because the DSL connection kbps is too slow and my computer works better and sucks up the resources and causes the other to disconnect Could this happen because the computer has a Turkish XP OS and therefore does not get the necessary updates to work side by side with mine Should we think of changing its OS to the US version Could this happen because there is some setting on the router that needs to be changed What else should I look for I Laptop Disconnects from Netgear WNR834B appreciate your help nbsp

internet disconnects when hp laptop sleeps
My HP laptop running windows vista..every time it goes into sleep mode the internet disconnects and then reconnects when it awakes.

i even changed the settings that when i close the lid, it shouldn't go to sleep, but the internet still disconnects when i close the lid and reconnects when i open it

Please somebody tell me how to fix this!!!!!

A:internet disconnects when hp laptop sleeps

In my opinion that what it's supposed to do, why would you want your Internet to stay on when you are in Sleep Mode? You are not using your computer and it is a safety feature.
I am confused at your question, but then again at my age I confuse easy

Dell Inspiron 600m, Win XP SP2, New Belkin wireless G router, only machine with connection problems;
No nearby phone or trouble with other nearby networks.
There is one other machine wired to the router.

The laptop can connect. However, it will disconnect after ~5 minutes. When viewing the wireless networks, it will say that it is connected to the network, however it must not be as I can't open the router page, and it will not ping it.

Thoughts? Suggestions? What other info do you need?

A:Wireless laptop randomly disconnects

Some things you can try here.
For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.
Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

Hello,
Yesterday I was running my Inspiron 15z on battery and noticed internet got disconnected and says "No Internet Access"...
I made sure that it doesn't disconnect when on power.
Does that really have to do with Internet? Or was it just a Windows bug or something?

My laptop is randomly disconnecting from my new router. Sometimes it's every few minutes, sometimes it can be an hour or two in between disconnections. This only seems to effect wireless devices and I notice it most often on my laptop. The router is a Fritz!Box 7490 and is connected to 2degrees Internet. The message in the WLAN event log is :

Wireless LAN device deregistered itself (5 GHz). MAC address: 64:BC:0C:6A:79:62

The weird thing is that if I disconnect from wifi and reconnect it re-establishes the connection near instantly. Sometimes it just shows as connected to wifi but not to the internet.

I have tried factory resetting the router (As suggested by 2degrees Internet) and I've tried setting my laptop DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. I have also tried to change the wifi channels in case of interference.

Any suggestions or advice is welcome and I'm happy to provide extra info on request. Thank you for your attention.

Hi, I have Lenovo B570 with windows7 installed. To avoid internet disconnection problem, I changed settings in Control Panel as follows:
In Power Options, then in advance settings I selected options "Do Nothing" When laptop lid closes...
It resolves my problem partially... After closing the lid if system does not get lock then internet connection works fine but if system goes to lock state (this happens when lid closed time is more than 20 mins) then after login, the internet connection is visible as disconnected.
Any suggestions?
