acer aspire 5920 battery and clock/date problem

Q: acer aspire 5920 battery and clock/date problem

I have an acer aspire 5920 laptop and have had a problem with the battery not holding a charge from within a few months of purchase. Also, and I'm not sure if this 2nd problem is related, but the machine is unable to keep the time and date - it keeps reverting to a date (and incorrect time) in April 2007 (possibly the date of manufacture). Is there anyone else out there who is having similar problem(s) and if so, any solutions. The technician I took it to was very vague. I'd appreciate some help here

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/directdownload.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Several reasons that can happen. If both networks dont have encryption turned and are of almost equal strength it can skip from one to another. Do you have encryption turned on?

Another reason is if you have checked connect to his network when in range checked.

I don't think you're gonna have any luck fixing the charger. I don't see why you can't buy a new charger, chargers are only about 10-15$

I need a driver for my laptop so that the battery won't show red x and tells me to switch battery, even tough it's 100%

Anyone knows about my problem?

A:Acer Aspire 5920

I'm guessing that the battery issue would be connected to the chipset drivers. However, after searching the downloads at Acer's site, the only chipset drivers available are for Vista, nothing for Windows 7.

My cauzin Got Acer Aspire 5920 !! its charger stop working she buy another charger for it !! but due to inexperience she bought 24 volts instead of 18 volts !! after charging some time the laptop isn't working nor the power is coming to laptop !! now tel me wht will be affected inside the laptop !! i open it and see that none of IC's are burnt everything is normal !! Now my question is that if high volts charger is plugged to laptop what do it affect !! plzz help me out !!

A:Acer Aspire 5920

This not something that can be dealt with here as it will need to be looked at by an experienced technician to see what damage has occured to the mobo and/or battery. The power supply you got with the wrong voltage may well be damaged also. If you are very lucky the charger may have a thermal overload in it and your PC may have a fuse or the battery has been wrecked which could be the reason why it won't turn on.

I wish you the best of luck.

A:my acer aspire 5920 does not boot in any means

The stop error indicates that your boot device in inaccessible.

Insert your Windows 7 disc.
Restart your computer.
If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc. If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check your BIOS settings.
Click Repair your computer. NOTE: This Option will be skipped if using a Recovery disc.
Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next. If you know your keyboard is for another language then select that from the list.
The system will scan for installed operating systems. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
Select your user account and click Next. If there is only one user account this will go straight to the System Recovery Options.
On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:

Startup Repair
System Restore
Windows Complete PC Restore
Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
Command Prompt

Select Command Prompt and type in rstrui.exe and hit the Enter key.

This should open the System Restore window. Take it back to before things went wrong.

I just made the mistake of clean installing windows 10 on my acer and now it will not connnect with the wifi. Does anyone have a solution for this or possibly can the Wifi adapter be updated or a different adapter be installed to work ?  I bought the laptop from a co-worker and it had windows 7 on it and someone removed the factory refresh so that's not an option either . It has a Vista code on the bottom but of course i have no disc .thanks for any help ! Phil

A:acer aspire 5920 paperweight after windows 10

I guess you could try connecting your computer to the router via ethernet and see if Windows automatically downloads and installs a driver for your wifi. You could also google search for "USB WiFi dongle" and see if you can get one that works with Windows 10.  Or run over to Best Buy and I'm sure they have a USB WiFi dongle they can recommend for $10-$25.

I have a Acer Aspire laptop It came with Windows Vista installed has GB RAM GB HDD in partitions I've mainly used the computer for basics like web surfing using Office email and some streaming video When it was newer my son played games with it online and being what he thought was pretty computer-savvy at the time would often change settings and so forth So while I was pretty careful who knows what he did when I wasn't around Relatively recently I had the screen replaced when I could be remembering this incorrectly the backlight burned out That was about - years ago I work for a university and faculty staff members can get Windows and MS Office for - so last December I bought the upgrade from Vista to Windows to Acer 7-8 5920 minutes Aspire boot takes Of course when I tried to install it I found out that the upgrade was for Windows Professional and my computer had Home and Office The same person who replaced the screen for me Acer Aspire 5920 takes 7-8 minutes to boot and IT guy from work brought me a copy of Windows Vista Professional to install instead of the Home and Office don't ask - I didn't We moved all of my data files off the computer installed Windows Vista Pro installed the upgrade to Windows Pro and it seemed to work However since then the computer has been slowly how should i say this degrading as far as speed goes Web pages load more slowly Documents open more slowly Firefox crashes much more frequently And lately over the last - weeks it's been taking or minutes to boot up after being shut down I tend to want to just jump in and try things myself so I of course ran a complete scan with the security software that's free from the University - Symantec Endpoint Protection All it's ever found is tracking cookies I downloaded Malwarebytes and ran a full scan I downloaded SuperAntiSpyware and ran a full scan Neither found much of interest except for duplicate files that I'm working on cleaning up I have HijackThis on my desktop and have run it several times The first time there were a few things listed that I was pretty sure I could take care of myself but a lot that I just don't know enough about to be sure After getting some advice I uninstalled Symantec's software and installed MS Security Essentials instead I've uninstalled some software that I wasn't using I did de-select a few items from the start-up list that I didn't think needed to be running like ABBY Fine Reader OCR software for the printer that I've never used At this point I don't know if the computer is infected it's suffering from too little memory or the motherboard is failing Any thoughts Thanks so much Cyogd

Hi,
My acer aspire 5920 wireless button is not working. It is not getting switched on.
I am using windows xp.
Is there any driver issue or something else?
need some real help.

A:Acer aspire 5920 wireless button not working

This could be a hardware problem. But I guess it could be a driver issue, but hardware would be more likely.

First go here:
- Click the Start icon in the bottom left hand corner
- Right click on my computer and select manage
- On the left hand side, find device manager and go to it
- Do you see any yellow exclamations or red x's?

Now, I am assuming your wireless is not working? Can you get internet when you plug a cable from the router into the computer?

If your wireless is not working, I am assuming it is turned off and you are trying to use the wireless button to turn it back on. There are other ways to turn on the wireless besides using the button.
- Go to the start icon in the bottom left hand corner
- Select control panel
- Select Network and Internet Connections
- If you don't see this, on the left hand side select Switch to Category View
- After network and internet connections, select network connections
- You should now be able to see some network interfaces
- For your wireless one, right click it and select enable
- Wireless should now be on.

I have inherited an old Acer Aspire Laptop It originally came with windows Vista bit installed I've nuked that and installed Windows x Ultimate I managed to find all the relevant drivers and there is nothing flagged in device manager as having a problem Everything appears don't work? Blue Acer Aspire Media 5920 keys to work with the exception Acer Aspire 5920 Blue Media keys don't work? of the row of Media Keys down the right hand side of the keyboard right above the DVD drive The key with the little person symbol works when pressed but all the remaining keys that are lit up blue don't These keys are the play pause stop etc They brighten up for a second if you press on one of them but don't actually do anything in Media player Media center or Acer Arcade I'd be happy if they just worked in Windows Media Player Non of the Acer empowering apps are compatible with Windows and are not installed The only exception is the Acer Launcher App which allows me to program the Blue e key and the e-mail etc keys that are on the left hand side of the keyboard There is another set of media keys on the actual keyboard that are accessed using the Fn key that work It would just be nice to be able to use the other ones that are lit up and easy to see in the dark I sometimes like to lay down and listen to some music with the lights off and its a bit of a pain trying to use the other keys to stop or pause the music in low light conditions

A:Acer Aspire 5920 Blue Media keys don't work?

thats the only problem with older tech and newer os. ive got a laptop that i put windows 7 on, but there are no compatible audio drivers for its chipset that work with windows 7.

That said, with my friends acer that i fixed and installed windows 7 on, to get the media keys on his working i tried downloading the drivers for a newer acer computer with hot keys and it worked.

My new Aspire keeps losing its date & time display (bottom RHS of screen).  Its changing several times a day - so far today I've had 20/2, 23/2 and 1/3.  Also, since allowing a Windows update yesterday it loses its internet connection if left idle for an hour or so.  I had the date & time problem many yers ago on a tower computer and it turned out to be a motherboard problem.  Any advice would be appreciated.

normally wrong time and date appears on old computers with low charge CMOS battery. Since your device is new, i suggest you to call Acer support service.

I am afraid that if my laptop is more then 45W it will not charge  I dont really understand what are these numbers anyway. My laptop battery has 4200Mah and this external battery has 10400Mah which would mean that it could charge my laptop almost 3 times. I dont know what role does Watt play. hi there,

I have a Acer Aspire E1 570 laptop that I use for college, the laptop is less then 8 months old. For some reason recently it starting going dead at 40% battery charge remaining. I ran a powercfg -energy from the command prompt and it said that my batterys designed charge is 37000 and last full charge untill the battery read it was fully charged is 36526. If some one would happen to know why this is happening that would be great, as i use the laptop on the battery all the time while i'm at school. I was thinking maybe just refresh the PC from the recovery i made using the provided software with the computer. I'm unsure if that would correct the issue. As well as i haven't found anything on google for this issue on my laptop.

Thanks

I would contact Acer, since the laptop is still within the warranty period. There are programs out there that can "fix" errors like this. Most likely you just have a bad battery pack in your laptop.

To help you understand, what type and size of the battery is required for your laptop, you can check it by removing the battery from the back side of the laptop.- To do this, first of all please make sure you turned off the laptop and the power connections.- Now turn the laptop to the back side and pulled the clips to remove battery, which is the only removable part from the outerside.- Now you can check the specification of the battery and find it online on the manufacturers website.- Your battery is of 4400 mAh Capacity, 6-cell.- Ac adapter input is AC 120/230 V (50/60 Hz). Hope this will help you.

Hello,

I have an ACER Aspire 3680 laptop. About 1 year ago, I purchased an OEM battery (compatible based on number match) to replace the manufacturer's battery that had stopped charging. I installed the battery, plugged in the AC adapter and turned on the computer. Once fully booted, the battery icon said "Battery not found". The laptop works as long as it's plugged in to the AC adapter, but powers off immediately if the adapter is removed.

I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue or a software issue. My thought is that it might be solved by updating a driver, but it could also be that the hardware that converts the AC to charge the batter is defunct.

I appreciate all suggestions!

i found that the user manual is on the notebook, they must be cheap as they don't seem to print them out these days. Anyway i found that it takes about 3.5 hours to charge if that is right or not and lasts about 3 hours before recharging if that's right.

Clearly something wrong with the battery on my Acer Aspire 7740 laptop. Preloaded with Windows 7, 64-bit o.s. [would love to get rid of that]. Battery, which is always fully powered, allows only 1 1/2 to 2 hrs use off power. Transformer is functioning, connection to laptop is good. I have a lousy battery, right? I am looking for a replacement battery for my ACER Aspire 3634WLMi laptop and have noticed one available in Australia which is listed as a replacement for the Aspire 3630 and wondered if anyone could advise if this would be a suitable replacement for me.

Part number for the existing battery is:
Sanyo 4UR18650Y-QC219 Rating 14.8v at 2000mAh.

The replacement however is quoted at 11.10V at 6600mAh.

Yup, that's it. So the battery is internal, but I'd like to go over a power reset just to make sure.

It will be a bit tricky, but hit the battery pin hole reset with a paperclip or something similiar. You should feel a pretty definitive recession when you push on it. If you can, hold the power button for 10-30 seconds and then try.

If that fails, I'd recommend contacting your local service team as I can't think of any other troubelshooting and I suspect that the battery has failed.

Hello, how much is duration expectancy before battery must be recharged for this model? I know it depends of what are you working, but my battery is empty after little more than one hour of usual work (internet browsing, no multimedia). I am on balanced power profile and not on full performance. Nothing working in a background. I even installed SSD. This was the case with the first battery when I bought my device five years ago and today I bought new battery with even more capacity and the short time of usage still remains.

You don't need to take out the battery as there's a built in mechanism to turn off charging once the battery fully charged, if you insist on removing the battery, you need to take off the back cover and removing the battery similar to the model in the link below. Hello. I recently bought an Acer Aspire 7750G. I noticed that when I tried to charge it the battery level would simply stay where it was and would not increase. I put this down to a faulty battery and am now using a new one however the issue remains and it will not charge past 7% even with a brand new battery. I am hoping this is a false reading and not a serious hardware fault. Any assistance in troubleshooting this issue will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. EDIT: After draining the batter and leaving in on charge switched off for a while it is now stuck at 0%. EDIT2: For a moment it chnaged to "plugged in, not charging" but I fixed that by following the steps I found in another thread on this site however it still wont charge past 1%.

I have checked the output from the charger which is constant although I have no means, at present , of ascertaining the actual output values.
If there is anyone with any hints or clues I should be most grateful' Thanks.

A:Acer Aspire 5552 charging/battery issue

So the laptop will not turn on at all? Does it act the same if you remove the battery? If not the the adapter may be faulty, the DC jack in the laptop may have broken, or there's a motherboard failure in the laptop.

Testing with a known good and compatible power adapter would be the next step.

How old is the laptop, is it still under warranty?

Not been on it for long and already the outlet is hot and the underneath is also hot. All I am currently doing is watching a Youtube video and on here. Any ideas?

Thanks

Darren

I bought a new battery for my acer laptop 7740 and computer now says battery not recognized. Does someone know a solution for this?

A:acer aspire 7740 laptop battery not recognized

Since we don't know the description and specifications of that laptop's original battery and replacement battery, it's difficult to answer your question.
I'm guessing you have an Acer Aspire 7740 laptop that came with Windows 7 or 8, 32-bit or 64-bit.

What's the complete model number of that laptop?
There should be a dash and additional numbers after 7740 that comprises the complete model number.
What's the serial number and/or SNID number on that laptop?

I just bought the Acer Aspire Nitro VN7-7i91G laptop and windows 10 is reporting 0% charged.  The battery is fine, if I unplug the laptop it continues to run for a few hours before the battery is drained, and when I plug it in the organge light is on and it charges up just fine.  While charging windows shows that it is charging, but it is always showing 0%.  I thought flashing the bios maybe might fix the issue, however as the battery is reporting 0%, I am unable to do so - the bios flash utility I downloaded will not let me do that with a battery that is reporting less than 15% charge.  While it is not the worst situation as the battery is working fine, I would like to have it reporting more accurately.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have an Acer Aspire V5-472P laptop. My problem is that the battery indicator on the taskbar is malfunction. It stays "100%" at least until 2-3 hours and now the battery life ends at around 50%. Before this, it was around 20% then 30% then 40% and now 50%! It just keeps on increasing and I don?t know what the problem is! I have changed the advance power settings. There should be a warning for low battery but there?s none! I feel like the battery life is getting lower too. Is there something wrong with my battery power apps or something? Or is it a BIOS problem? Or something else?

Hi guys,

I've got my uncle's Acer Aspire 5536 that I am having some trouble with. He said that the laptop just decided not to work.

When I press the power button absolutely nothing happens.
When I plug my charger in, the power button lights up blue and so does the battery light (Orange when was charging, now blue).

There is still nothing happening when I press the power button though.

I've tried taking the battery and charger out and holding the power button for a few minutes then connect the charger, to no avail!

I popped the casing above the keyboard off to make sure that the power button wasn't just stuck. All seems fine.

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you

Hi Steven,

Welcome to the forum.

The 64 bit Vista has to be installed by booting from the installation DVD and do a clean install as a Upgrade version. This tutorial will show you how. You will need to enter your 32 bit Vista's PID number for the 64 bit.

How to Do a Clean Install of Vista From a Upgrade Version

Before you install the 64 bit Vista, make sure that all of your devices have 64 bit Vista drivers for them. The 32 bit ones will not work.

Hope this helps you,

This is sort of an elementary problem compared to some of the others being posted so if there is no urgency, I can understand. But here is my very small dilemma:

I think there is something wrong within my date and time properties or something because it seems as if my clock in the bottom right corner is displaying 23:32 instead of just showing 11:32 Like a 24 hr clock. Is there a way to make it go back to the way it normally does, or is that something that was supposed to happen or what? Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone!

I have a Acer 5920, and it does NOT charge, turn on or anything, I have check the charger with another laptop and a multimeter and it's fine. Tried another charger on the acer 5920 and still nothing.

I have now taken it apart, and checked the power cable to the motherboard, everything checks out.

I have disconnected the internal jack from the motherboard and tested with a multimeter and it IS receiving power! So now the problem is within the motherboard, or another place...?

Any ideas before I jump and get a new motherboard??

Many thanks!

Hi guys,

I hope this is in the right forum. I have been suffering from stuttering audio, from both audio on my pc and streaming from the net. I did all the usual tricks, checked for viruses/spyware, reinstalled drivers etc and I've (unintentionally) narrowed it down to hardware. I've done this by accidentally leaning on the casing, to the right hand side of the mouse pad. This actually allows the audio to continue playing without stutter and if the pressure is lifted the stutter returns immediately.

What I want to ask is whether it is easy enough to get into the machine itself, having looked around someone had done it previously. Secondly, what am I likely to find that is causing this problem?

Many thanks in advance.

it's good to see acer can be "halfway"opened like my old travelmate.

hence it's possible to clean CPU heatsink without doing full teardown..

some series of acer does not allow this, they only allow to open the RAM and HDD case. hence when it's time to clean the CPU heatsink and fan, big teardown must be done...

anyway 5920G is a nice laptop...
my housemate has one and it's one of the most impressive acer
bad thing is that it cant be 200* opened (screen) like old travelmate series

Safe Mode

start windows normally

Can anyone help please?

Simply Vista won't load. I have tried:
F8 - it won't load in any safe mode (plain, networking, or command prompt) or last known good configuration. I have backup on an Iomega external hard drive (but I cannot boot it from there), and then I read about ALT F-10 restore to factory default (I'm getting desperate) and I have tried every variation of my passwords (none work).
I don't care if Vista ever boots again, end result I want to install Ubunto on the laptop as I only use it for facebook and runescape. I installed Ubunto on an older desktop computer which I am using for Internet access for this site). The old computer I'm using is too slow for FB/RS. I really want to see if I can fix this laptop!

Hi all,

I have done some searching in the forum threads before opening a new one, but I couldn`t find solution.

SO here is my problem on a Vista Business 32 bit machine: I`m not able to change the time - every time I restart the laptop the clock is set automatically around 5 minutes back. I have set the correct time zone, I`m not using automatically adjustment for daylight saving, I have tried setting the correct time in the BIOS and then after the OS was loaded I had again the wrong time - 5 min back. When I set the time it is OK provided don`t restart it. The behaviour is the same no matter if it is plugged or not or network is connected or not. I find this very annoying.

The Laptop is ACER Travelmate 6292.

Please can anybody help me on this. I would really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

If there's a dismantling guide for your laptop online you could try to fit a new battery yourself.
If you're ok with that post the exact model of your laptop and I/we will help you look.

Otherwise to get the best deal I would phone a few small local computer shops and compare their prices with big chains like PC World.
